hi ^^
I'm finally more concretely baaaack!! & I finally found time to properly dedicate to your amazing work!!
how are u doing? summer basically finishing so I hope you'll enter last days of summer/early autumn well rested, healthy & w/ no regrets <333
I finally caught up to Abundance & i'm soooo happyyy, i've missed this fic soo much xd
every ch left me w/ so many thoughts, sooo much excitement & just an overall sense of satisfaction at how smooth & rewarding your writing style & narration style are!
so i may ramble a lil bit abt it now if u don't mind XD (u don't have to read all of it or reply btw, no pressure ;D )
1st of all i wanna recognise how usually it's harder to keep tabs on multiple characters, even more if they are all important & heavily involved in the plot (esp in ff that are poly or w/ multiple different kinds of relationships & relations between characters ) but you've done nothing but a great job at handling this! each character gets their time, their moments, their own space & pace for development & involvement in the plot & it all feels very balanced!
definetely not in order '^^
i also wanna scream at the idea of the pack-mark?? i thought i loved already the hybrid concept but this just elevated it o the next level! & the difference in the mark being platonic or romantic & it being also different from the concept of mate-mark?? i can't wait to see how this puzzle piece fits into the canines arrangement in the future
returning to the 1st point, to strenghten my love w/ your writing style there's also the way u write the mc!! istg i'm this close to start crushing on her instead lmaoo. no but the way u wrote her feels way more natural & genuine than an air-head type or a perfect-never-makes-mistakes literal angel type, she feels like an actual proper developed character that is human & obvi makes mistakes but that is also a good person that has a pretty strong sense of responsability/duty, is very mature & level headed (finally an mc that doesn't behave/think like a 12 y.o lmao). i love how even tho she still learning & doesn't know everything already, she always tries to take the better choice either based on her judgement or by seeking to learn more abt the hybrids by asking them directly, w/out shame or fear to ask them abt themselves & hybrids in general.
wrds cannot emphasize enough how grateful i am that she’s not simply just flustered all the time & getting ping-ponged by the guys, she is her own person 1st & takes srsly her own responsibilities & actually wants to treat them as just any other human person while also accommodating & recognising their diff hybrid needs instead of just being all a condescending “omg, they’r so hot, omg their so cute” all the time. she wants to learn & respect their natural instincts & doesn’t fault them 4 having them but also wants them to wrk through the ones that may be harmful to others around them.
onto the last point above, i can't help but appreciate the constant in the story of hybrids not being able to simply wish away their strongest instincts or miraculously gain control over them simply bc of their love 4 mc’s .NO, there is an actual learning curve & episodes of dealing w/ shame, guilt & sense of helplessness, of predators feeling uncomfortable at feeling or having felt certain instincts as their relations w/ the preys change & evolve( as an example)
but at the same time in the build up of the story, the hybrids instincts are never used as plot device to excuse/justify actions that cross the limit (incidents/hybrid on hybrid crimes, agression, violence & the fact that even tho jin & jk were in rut/pre-rut, they were still adamant abt respecting mc boundaries & consent & not " get their way" & simply blame it on “instinct”bs .-. that was refreshing to see lmao)
in your wrld building, i really love how u handled the characterisation of the roles of prey & predator in hybrids & didn't go w/ just usual/easier expected stereotypical depictions. even tho there’s a difference between predators & prey, they still clearly have a consciousness & an important inner emotional reaction at seeing 1st person the reality of prey hybrids, they’s not just animals & they’s not just jerks/assholes, they are actual ppl that had each their own struggles, traumas & lessons & that up until now where only used to relying on their pack to survive or themselves (case of rogues etc) & drive off anybody else to stay safe but not all of them would go out of their way to hurt prey hybrids, it depends on the personal level & not all of them will be swayed off their feet & fall head over heels for the 1st prey hybrid they interact w/, w/out even getting to know them & later trust them & develop normally a closeness to them.
talking abt trust...
after the nth hurt, esp the predators(namjoon, jimin) have learned to surround themselves w/ walls & to not get attached easily & it’s very interesting to see their different inner fights in trying to let go of that while also struggling w/ the need to still feel safe & in control, 2 things that ‘till now they got by keeping to themselves & to their packs.
& although there have been multiple instances in which nj starting doubting mc or started feeling that safety slip away & started pulling back, or jimin & the others were in denial to their own feelings & pull to get closer to other hybrids outside of the pack & lower their guard, after a pretty difficult process & many mistakes it’s slowly starting to happen!! at a pace that i’m sooooo glad u actually took time & effort to develop in a way that feels very natural & curated! i’m sure that it’s not easy to write like this at all & every ch is different & sometimes the wrds don’t feel right or they don’t come etc but i’m just so incredibly happy that u continued to persevere through that in this fic bc the results are a damn masterpiece!!
ALSO,TESTIMONY TO YOUR SHARP & AMAZING WRITING SKILLS:
i nearly lost my mind at your description of nj inner turmoil w/ primary colours(blue & yellow) that clash & then merge into his confused uncomfortable state (murky green) . i literally kept re-reading that part bc it was just sooo pretty 😭
...tumblr doesn't have yellow so let's just pretend XD
& the subtle hints & nj fear of repeated rejection? i’m not sure if maybe i’m interpreting it wrong & it’s not smth that he already had to deal in the past but i’m looking forward regardless.
& the way no part of the plot gets neglected?? hello? bc while all of this is going on w/ the hybrids, mc’s life outside of this bubble is taking turn after turn w/ her wrk & it’s getting sooo interesting, soo intriguing w/ all the dots connecting & the mystery getting bigger & more rabbit-holey😍😍😍
& can i just say that i never trusted hajoon from the beginning?!!! his reaction to mc saying they don’t investigate money laundering bc it’s more of a “officer/investigator” job & him finding it amusing almost like he knows she’s technically already doing that w/ the other company but she just confirmed that the law firm can’t find the necessary info by themselves so other ppl get involved like investigators & informants …. & then the overlap of the 2 cases?? the cliffhanger?? the 3 names popping up again?? & she might have fallen into a trap & just fed hajoon the ones that might have worked w/ her to testimony against the shady company involved in hybrid trafficking... or actually hajoon found a way to frame those 3 to make it harder 4 their testimony to be believable in case they get involved to help mc w/ her case against Lim's. or maybe it's smth else entirely & i'm off my rails XD
we still don't know that much abt hajoon or mc's informant & there's always the possibility of a mole being at the law firm, maybe even somebody that knows mc closely, doesn't attract much attention & regularly looks through files, appointments & schedules😳 now i'm just freely speculating off my head XD
lastly bc i don't wanna exaggerate w/ the walls of rambling (might be too late tho so srry abt that😅), i'm absolutely knees deep infatuated w/ the little details/quirks/facets of personality u give each hybrid:
namjoon's intimidating edge being softened thanks to his clumsiness & puppy-like moments, jin's softer & more attentive way of subtly asserting his role as alpha/hyung, tae's simple often straightforward natural sweetness & inclination of being curious & playful, hobi's unexpected strenght & comforting sweet personality that often acts as a damper in intense moments, jk's perseverance towards more indipendency & his struggles w/ self-worth, jimin's stark contrast between how he carries himself in front of others & his own inner insecurities & fears of abandonment, yoongi's new perspective on love & it simply adding up not substracting at admitting his crush on jin & helping jimin accept his own changes in his emotions & feelings toward the other hybrids.
i have soooo many more but i don't wanna push it😫
in the end i just hope u had lots of fun & feel proud of how this series is turning out! obvi as always no pressure & make sure to take your time & continue writing when & as long as it feels right^^
hello!! thank you so much, i'm doing well 🥺 i hope the beginning of autumn is treating you well too! i'm sorry it took me so long to reply to this ask but the truth was that i didn't want to share it just yet, lol 😭 this ask arrived in my inbox just as i was trying (and failing) to begin writing for abundance again. i kept psyching myself out, thinking that my break had been too long and i wouldn't be able to capture the essence of the characters anymore – so what was even the use of trying if i was only going to fail? but then this popped into my inbox and it just made me feel so.. seen. you pointed out and acknowledged so many aspects of the story that i love and feel proud of, and it was truly the boost i needed. i've been coming back to this almost every day as i've been writing, so i just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart 💖💖
i will say that having eight main characters is a puzzle that doesn't always line up, but i do try my best to make up for it whenever i can! if a character isn't very prominent in one ch, it's likely that they'll get more attention in the next or that i'm "saving" them for a bigger scene that needs more build up. but i'm glad you think i'm going a good job at juggling all of them, tysm :')
i always try to think of ways to add a little something extra to my stories, something that makes it feel like it's not just a direct copy of every other fic in that trope. dividing the boys into predator/prey packs and giving them different marks (platonic/romantic) was such a 'simple' but effective way of introducing a lot of drama and conflict into the story. i'm a slow burn girlie at the end of the day and i knew that the pay off of all of the packs becoming one would be that much sweeter if they actually started off truly disliking each other and not just becoming lovey dovey after two chapters.
i'm honestly so ecstatic that you love the MC so much, that makes me so happy!! it's taken some trial and error, but i've tried my best to create a MC/reader that makes realistic choices and is someone that the majority might be able to see themselves in. she's not perfect, she makes mistakes and she feels horrible when she does, but she also tries to fix things when she messes up and doesn't just expect them to work out on their own. it just doesn't make sense to have an MC that knows everything about hybrids when she's never owned one before (or really had any interest in them) so part of the challenge for her is to actually learn about their needs in relation to who they are as people and not just assume that she knows best because she's fully human.
thank you!! i've really tried to balance the human and animal part of them as much as possible in this fic. they may have instincts and knee-jerk reactions to situations that are fueled by their animal DNA but that doesn't mean that their human brain completely checks out. it was important to me to show that much like the MC, hybrids can have prejudice too, and that they can learn & grow over time. i'm so happy that you pointed out the fact that their instincts are never used to excuse their actions – that was one thing i didn't want to happen. like i said, they're just as much human as they are animal, so it's not a valid reason for them to ignore morals or boundaries.
yes! i didn't just want to slap a predator label on some of them and go "okay, you guys are scary and mean" and make the preys meek and docile for the entire story. they still have individuality and personality regardless of if they're classified as predator or prey. they have all had different experiences that have shaped them into who they are but that doesn't make them heartless or incapable of change. the predators have never noticed how much their biology affects prey hybrids until they met jinkook, so it makes sense that their guilt would eventually catch up with them when they stop thinking of the preys as competition that needs to be eliminated.
trust is a big part of this fic and it manifests in so many different ways! they're all finally beginning to open up and understand that they're safe, and i think it's especially satifisfying to see namjoon and jimin finally let their walls down :') there were times that i was worried i was going to slow but i really do think that this pace was necessary - there was just too much that needed to be unpacked and adressed for it to happen any sooner. and no, it has definitely not been easy, but it does feel more than worth it when i get such a lovely review as this 😭
i'm so happy you pointed out that scene with joon, bc i really liked using the colours to represent his emotions!! and you're not interpreting it wrong, it's definitely a big fear for him!
i know that most readers are only here for the boys and not so much the mc's work, but i really do think it adds to the story! there are some connections coming up that have been slowly been hinted at throughout the story so far, so i'm excited for that to come together soon. hajoon is very sus and you're right in not trusting him 🙈 i'm not going to say what it is exactly, but you are indeed on to something regarding the case 👀
i can't have my babies be one-dimensional! i put a lot of thought into making sure that each character had its own strengths and weaknesses and how that would affect them in different ways. truly, thank you so much for recognizing all of the hard work i've put into developing the story and the characters, it means more than you know 😭
i cannot thank you enough for leaving me such an incredible review/comment, it has made me cry (happy tears!) every time i've looked at it and it has helped me remember all of the things i loved about writing the story. i'm truly so so grateful 💖💖💖

👀das alot.. any recommendations?
I KNOW !!!!!
well it’s difficult to really say since i got a lot but do you have any genres you prefer?
i have my favorites tho i can list them down here with a bit of info (this is in no way in order they are all my faves, plus most of them have powerful fl’s so yep those are my style)
Into the light once again - typical fl dies and has a new life (and btw it was brutal so i have to just warn you about that) but the ART and the way her new family is is just soooo refreshing !! unknown ml yet but so far im betting it’s the spirit king
Honey I’m going on a strike - absolutely adorable ml i just gotta say. this is kinda diff than those typical plots where the fl dies and goes back time since the fl and ml are already married, so the story kind of revolves around their married life
The Villainess Reverses the Hourglass - ABSOLUTELY ONE OF MY FAVORITE FL’S!! she’s just so badass and amazing and beautiful. plus the ml listens to her and i like their dynamics a lot
Seduce the Villain’s Father - VERY CUTE COUPLE ! I adore them !!!!!!! The fl wants to save ml so he won’t die a horrible death with his future son with another woman so she does this by continually asking him to marry her (and it works ok)
The Princess Imprints the Traitor - oh my god another powerful fl (PLUS THE ML LOVES HER EVEN IN THE PAST ISTG IM CRYING I NEED MORE CHAPTERS) and can i just say she looks so beautiful as an Empress okay
The Way to Protect the Female Lead’s Older Brother - the most beautiful art and the most beautiful FL I HAVE EVER SEEN !!! And btw one of the characters reminds me of scara but moving on, the fl is in a bad and brutal family (there will be blood here and there be warned) who she cleverly protected the ml from, and she is actually the most cunning of them istg. Ml is way hotter in the past but hey they both look good together but hey im continuing this bc of the absolutely beautiful fl
When the Villainess Loves - I have been waiting for the update for the longest time but hey this deserves a spot here. The fl has a thing with handsome men and protects all of the side ml’s in the original story tho the real ml of the manhwa is probably the other male villain. Anyway i remember liking this very much and if you are comfy with a sickly!fl go for it
I became the wife of the male lead - Oh my god? Wtf? Why is this not being updated???? Because the art!!! The plot!!! The father-like figure of the fl !!!??? Like srsly i absolutely adore the father-daughter ish relationship the fl has with the ml’s teacher. Plus she’s probably the most powerful fl i have ever seen (in terms of magic,,, oh wait ive seen an archmage fl too but well this one can use her powers freely) the fl draws a certain line between her and the ml but ml clearly loves her istg. and the original fl of the story is also in love with her :)
I feel like i would list more if i dont stop now but if you guys want more just send an ask

I'm writing a detective and assistant "Sherlock Holmes-style" gay couple short story/book mystery series set in Chicago which means I have to write diversely and that's getting too much for me. I'm trying to look up and read things from Mexican-Americans, Puerto Rican-Americans, Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, Indian-Americans, Chinese-Americans, African-Americans, etc to make my stories more realistic. It's just so hard and making my head swirl to think about how many beta and sensitivity readers I'll need to make these stories turn out right and authentic to the point it'll cost too much to do. There are so many tropes to avoid and "don't do" lists that it feels exhausting reading on writing-with-color. Can I just not give characters races in my short stories and books or is that too much of a cop-out? Why is this so hard for a writer who is a poc?
firstly, I just wanna say that no one's perfect and all of our journeys are different. and honestly, I don't know if you want to hear this but i would probably recommend taking it easy a bit. if you're becoming too anxious about making mistakes that might offend people, it's probably just best to stick to your guns and stick with what you know.
i would ask the time period in which your story takes place because if it were set in earlier times, I could understand why you might be so inclined to look up things related to said groups, culturally. but at the same time, i just want to say that it's okay to write characters just like you would any other. I was told by a user once that "not all tropes are bad tropes" and ever since then, I started writing a lot more freely because I was just like you--terrified to make mistakes and i thought all tropes were inherently bad, but that's not always the case. For instance, most white women might hate the damsel in distress trope, but i've seen some black women sort of like the idea of having to be protected and rescued by characters who adore them because it's a refreshing take. but that being said, there's also nothing wrong with black women being badasses who know hand-to-hand combat. i have female characters (3 black, 1 east asian, 1 mena, all diff age groups) who I wanted to write them so perfectly to avoid them from coming off unlikeable but it's set in an apocalypse, and realistically, people will change, people will kill, people will get angry, people will be cowards, and bad things will happen to them. now, i do try to handle those types of things delicately and try not to go overboard (for instance i cannot kill off the only character of said race. something about that just seems wrong to me) but it's all about learning, and sometimes, it really is best to stick with what you know and follow your gut. if something feels wrong to you, redact it. im black so clearly, the majority of my characters are black. i also have some nonblack poc but there is also the option of just characters be "poc-coded" (dunno if that term is offensive, if it is, forgive me) such as physical traits and/or dialects. that tends to work for me because a lot people are standoffish and many of my characters are on the go and it doesn't involve a lot of getting familiar with people. so try using the "show, dont tell" method. maybe your characters can be overheard communicating a different language to someone else and that's literally good enough.
I think its also great that you're doing research, but im worried that relying on too much on information might make your characters lack three-dimensionality. For instance, lets say you're writing a character who was born in alabama and you're so afraid of making them come across as violent or poor (i.e. tropes that are often associated with black/brown people) that you avoid any sort of confrontation with this character so you build them up to be this perfect person. they attended an HBCU, were raised in an extremely wealthy family with two parents, they dress really dapper, speak extremely proper, and he's super nice to everyone...and that's it. i mean, there's nothing wrong with it--you avoided the negative tropes and they're a nice character, but there's not really much gradation to them and it makes them less interesting. again, that's just my personal take and some people are okay with that. everyone's different and you cant please everyone. im more than with characters being messy and not so perfect.
you can make mistakes and writing is essentially just writing what you think would make a good story. some things might work, some things might not and i that's okay. i understand that we're also in an extremely critical generation right now but don't let it stop you from making mistakes because it's how we learn. if there happens to be an issue with that you've written just take a mental note of it and avoid it.
not much of a tip, but just some advice. happy writing!

Ah wasn't clear my bad XD and yus Ty 4 that sequence! I mean as in besides mer, like vampire, demon, dragon, werewolf, immortal type being, or lord of the ring style elf or whatever Aragorn was etc. I grew up with a lot of fantasy stories so it always lures me in seeing diff reality based stories based on reg modern day anime and manga.
We already know how I feel about mermaid AU’s hah
Vampire I haven’t really given much thought to? I’m not as into Vampire stories as other people, but maybe I just haven’t read any good ones or fics that catch my interest. My current vampire obsession is What We Do in the Shadow so MODERN Vampire AU is very on trend right now.
Demon? I did write this Demon King AU that...i’m pretty proud of ;D I’ve also read some “oh no i summoned a hot demon on accident?!” AU stories and MMM yes delicious. And demon/angel AU?? very good. FALLEN ANGEL AU?? please yes
I also read a little prompt about an AU where a fallen angel is a statue? and the statue is so lifelike that if you kiss it, it will come to life. again, very good
Dragon? I think that’s more Kirishima’s territory but still I do enjoy Bakugou half-dragon or dragon shifter, sounds good to me.
Again, Werewolf falls into the Vampire territory with me where I just haven’t read that many stories about it. And I think Werewolf fits Kirishima more, again. Maybe a hybrid AU would work, though, at least for Bakugou
we JUST watched the extended edition of LoTR so like 12+ hours of content so i’m REFRESHED on everything! When I think about it there aren’t...that many character parallels, though, without totally making new personalities and story elements? Deku fits as Frodo, and maybe All Might as Gandalf, Bakugou as a very snarky Sam, AfO as Sauron, maybe Iida and Todoroki as Pippin and Meri. Todoroki would be Aragorn. Ochaco would be Gimli because she’s badass and would totally be a hearty dwarf. Momo could make a decent Legolas I think.

An MS3 Guide to Internal Medicine Wards
I want to do internal medicine. I scoured the internet for guides on how to knock this rotation out of the park. Here is yet another take on how one can do well on this rotation, even if you don’t want to do IM.
I ended up honoring it and making 92nd percentile on the shelf. There will be a separate post on how to prepare for the shelf.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Preparation
I got up early every morning to preround on my patients. When I first started rotation, I started off with one patient. I typically carried 3 patients and went up to 4 towards the end of my rotation. Get there earlier than you think you need because it sucks to scramble to prepare your notes for rounds only to find out that the plan for the patient changed in the interim. I got to the hospital around 7:15 for 9 AM rounds.
If your institution still uses paper lists, print copies of the list for everyone on the team and make sure to have the most updated version for the attending.
Read up on your patients on Up To Date. This will help you on pimping and on the shelf. If you have a new patient to present, you can shine by looking up differentials for your patient’s symptoms and presenting them. You can also check out all the treatment options on UTD and present the main ones as well. The key to standing out on rounds is being the one to put yourself out there to propose a plan for the patient, even if it ends up being wrong. It’s easy to just regurgitate what your resident’s note says. At least you tried to integrate your previous basic science knowledge with the clinical side.
The topic of studying will be covered in another post.
Rounds
Have your presentations down cold. There are many guides online on this topic such as this one by @pleasedotheneedfulhttp://pleasedotheneedful.tumblr.com/post/149283514726/how-to-write-a-cohesive-patient-notepresen-tation
It’s hard to figure out each attendings’ preferences such as how detailed they want you to be on the presentation or if they like walking rounds. Ask around within your class, the MS4s, or the residents.
For the most part, they want focused presentations that concentrate more on the plan for the patient. Some want to know all of the labs and vitals. Some want only the highlights. You also need time to read all of the consult notes to see their recommendations.
Know when to ask questions. Always try to look up the answer to your question if you have time before bothering anyone with it. Definitely keep them to a minimum if it’s a post call day and your list is long. If I was getting pimped, then I would be more likely to ask more follow up questions around then because that means we’re in education mode. You want to ask enough questions to where you appear engaged but not so much to where it gets annoying. But don’t be afraid to ask questions even if it’s really busy if it will impact patient care. I tend to ask questions while walking in the hall during walking rounds but I also ask during table rounds depending on the vibe of the room.
Pimping. It is okay to not know the answer. Always try to make a guess, even if it’s a stretch. I have said I don’t know plenty of times. I’ve seen fourth years who don’t know the answer. I’ve seen residents and fellows who don’t know the answer. Most attendings I’ve dealt with have been pretty nice if I don’t know. I think pimping can be good so that it it keeps me on my toes since the fear of God is put in me. A great phrase is “I don’t know but I will find out and we can discuss it later on.” I remember questions I’ve gotten right and especially the ones I’ve gotten wrong that everyone else on the team knew except for me.
Making a good impression
Ask for feedback. I get super anxious about possibly hearing negative things so I hate doing this. At my school, preceptors evaluate you on if you asked for feedback, how you handle criticism, and if you actually tried to improve. Try to ask 2 weeks in or so about what can you work on to improve things like your presentation, differentials, treatments plans, history collection, ect. They will notice if you step it up or if you continue on. They will definitely notice you if you slack off after getting good feedback initially.
It’s not just about impressing the attending. The residents and especially the senior resident are the ones in contact with you the most. I only interacted with the attending on morning rounds. The residents give their feedback to the attending for your evaluation. Yes, we are close in age to the residents and yes it’s great to have fun at work. I love joking around and have an occasional streak of dark humor but I don’t swear, talk about the times I’ve been intoxicated, complain about the work we have to do, or complain too much about the patients.
Don’t freaking text during rounds, especially while in a patient room. Yes, people still are getting in trouble for that.
After rounds
Check on your patients. Most patients and their families don’t really know what’s going on because we storm in there as a group during rounds and then abruptly leave. It’s always great to double back and check their understanding of what’s going on. You as the student are usually the person on the team that’s the closest to the patient in terms o medical knowledge. Once they have an understanding of the disease process and why we treat them with whatever treatment, then they can hopefully keep it up after discharge.
Stay organized. I had a patient list that I wrote notes on during rounds of things to do particularly focusing on my patients but including things to do for other patients. The residents will really appreciate it if you help update the list, remind them of orders that need to be put in, and notify them of any results/consults you’re waiting for. So I refreshed my patient charts all day long to make sure everything was there. When we see an abnormal critical result or consult recommendations and update the residents, we are helping to expedite care.
I really can’t stand doing random clerical stuff like making appointments or filling out paperwork but just make yourself volunteer to do it. My school is trying to cut back on using medical students for this.
Do not lie. If you didn’t check something on your physical exam or forgot to ask a question, own up to it. It’s embarrassing but it’s better than being caught in a lie or your made up information ends up affecting the treatment plan. You won’t get any more responsibility if they can’t trust you.
Extra
Read the literature. My attending specifically mentioned that he expects this from honors level students.  This is how you step up your game. You want to show that you are trying to elevate your knowledge. You’ll definitely get style points for referencing the literature when you propose your treatment plan by citing statistically significant results from randomized control trials. For example, one of my patients had refractory C diff that wasn’t responding to traditional antibiotics of vanc per rectum and PO with metronidazole or with fecal transplants. So I needed to step up and look into other options that we can talk about on rounds.  I read some articles on newer therapies that were compared to gold standard therapies. I summarized the studies in a few sentences so that everyone can be on the same page. Then we talked pros and cons. Another example is that if your patient is on some newer drug you’ve never heard of, you can look up what it is, the mechanism of action, and major indications. Then present a very brief FYI on it as it will help educate your team. Definitely be cautious as to how often and when you try to educate others as it may come off as overbearing or if it may put your team behind schedule. You do not want to appear as a know it all or that you like to hear yourself talk because it’s hard to shake that impression.
Preclinical material professors seem to like gunners, at least in my experience. It’s way different in the clinical setting because you’re surrounded by people who’ve been in the game longer than you. All of us know how to pick out a gunner. So word will spread fast if you’re terrible to work with and then you end up on the Do-Not-Rank list.
You are not going to get a thank you for everything you do. Don’t take it personally. Except if someone takes credit for your work, so in that case they can fuck right off.
The <1/15/50/85 rule. A fantastic pimp deflector. If you are being pimped on some statistic and the pretest probability seems to be very low, say < 1%. Low probability then 15%. For example, if someone asks you what percentage of strokes are ischemic and you feel pretty confident that the vast majority of them are ischemic, then say 85%. Usually you’ll be pretty close.
The most important things
The most important thing is to advocate for your patient, regardless if an attending is around. 100% of students has thought about how they wish an attending could have seen how hard you work day in and day out but that’s not gonna actually happen much. The patient will remember how you treated them and all the things you did to help them.
Teamwork makes the dream work. Even if you can’t stand people on your team, you have to suck it up because the ultimate goal is patient care.
It is okay to take some time off to yourself. Some nights, all you can really do is watch TV and drink wine on a post call day or after doing not that well on a quiz you didn’t have time to prepare for because you’re freaking exhausted working 6 days a week.

Everything You Need to Know About FLIP Animations in React
With a very recent Safari update, Web Animations API (WAAPI) is now supported without a flag in all modern browsers (except IE).  Here’s a handy Pen where you can check which features your browser supports. The WAAPI is a nice way to do animation (that needs to be done in JavaScript) because it’s native — meaning it requires no additional libraries to work. If you’re completely new to WAAPI, here’s a very good introduction by Dan Wilson.
One of the most efficient approaches to animation is FLIP. FLIP requires a bit of JavaScript to do its thing.
Let’s take a look at the intersection of using the WAAPI, FLIP, and integrating all that into React. But we’ll start without React first, then get to that.
FLIP and WAAPI
FLIP animations are made much easier by the WAAPI!
Quick refresher on FLIP: The big idea is that you position the element where you want it to end up first. Next, apply transforms to move it to the starting position. Then unapply those transforms.
Animating transforms is super efficient, thus FLIP is super efficient. Before WAAPI, we had to directly manipulate element’s styles to set transforms and wait for the next frame to unset/invert it:
// FLIP Before the WAAPI el.style.transform = `translateY(200px)`;
 requestAnimationFrame(() => {   el.style.transform = ''; });
A lot of libraries are built upon this approach.  However, there are several problems with this:
Everything feels like a huge hack.
It is extremely difficult to reverse the FLIP animation. While CSS transforms are reversed “for free” once a class is removed, this is not the case here. Starting a new FLIP while a previous one is running can cause glitches. Reversing requires parsing a transform matrix with getComputedStyles and using it to calculate the current dimensions before setting a new animation.
Advanced animations are close to impossible. For example, to prevent distorting a scaled parent’s children, we need to have access to current scale value each frame. This can only be done by parsing the transform matrix.
There’s lots of browser gotchas. For example, sometimes getting a FLIP animation to work flawlessly in Firefox requires calling requestAnimationFrame twice:
requestAnimationFrame(() => {   requestAnimationFrame(() => {     el.style.transform = '';   }); });
We get none of these problems when WAAPI is used. Reversing can be painlessly done with the reverse function. The counter-scaling of children is also possible. And when there is a bug, it is easy to pinpoint the exact culprit since we’re only working with simple functions, like animate and reverse, rather than combing through things like the requestAnimationFrame approach.
Here’s the outline of the WAAPI version:
el.classList.toggle('someclass'); const keyframes = /* Calculate the size/position diff */; el.animate(keyframes, 2000);
FLIP and React
To understand how FLIP animations work in React, it is important to know how and, most importantly, why they work in plain JavaScript. Recall the anatomy of a FLIP animation:
Everything that has a purple background needs to happen before the “paint” step of rendering. Otherwise, we would see a flash of new styles for a moment which is not good. Things get a little bit more complicated in React since all DOM updates are done for us.
The magic of FLIP animations is that an element is transformed before the browser has a chance to paint. So how do we know the “before paint” moment in React?
Meet the useLayoutEffect hook. If you even wondered what is for… this is it! Anything we pass in this callback happens synchronously after DOM updates but before paint. In other words, this is a great place to set up a FLIP!
Let us do something the FLIP technique is very good for: animating the DOM position. There’s nothing CSS can do if we want to animate how an element moves from one DOM position to another. (Imagine completing a task in a to-do list and moving it to the list of “completed” tasks like when you click on items in the Pen below.)
CodePen Embed Fallback
Let’s look at the simplest example. Clicking on any of the two squares in the following Pen makes them swap positions. Without FLIP, it would happen instantly.
CodePen Embed Fallback
There’s a lot going on there. Notice how all work happens inside lifecycle hook callbacks: useEffect and useLayoutEffect. What makes it a little bit confusing is that the timeline of our FLIP animation is not obvious from code alone since it happens across two React renders. Here’s the anatomy of a React FLIP animation to show the different order of operations:
Although useEffect always runs after useLayoutEffect and after browser paint, it is important that we cache the element’s position and size after the first render. We won’t get a chance to do it on second render because useLayoutEffect is run after all DOM updates. But the procedure is essentially the same as with vanilla FLIP animations.
Caveats
Like most things, there are some caveats to consider when working with FLIP in React.
Keep it under 100ms
A FLIP animation is calculation. Calculation takes time and before you can show that smooth 60fps transform you need to do quite some work. People won’t notice a delay if it is under 100ms, so make sure everything is below that. The Performance tab in DevTools is a good place to check that.
Tumblr media
Unnecessary renders
We can’t use useState for caching size, positions and animation objects because every setState will cause an unnecessary render and slow down the app. It can even cause bugs in the worst of cases. Try using useRef instead and think of it as an object that can be mutated without rendering anything.
Layout thrashing
Avoid repeatedly triggering browser layout. In the context of FLIP animations, that means avoid looping through elements and reading their position with getBoundingClientRect, then immediately animating them with animate. Batch “reads” and “writes” whenever possible. This will allow for extremely smooth animations.
Animation canceling
Try randomly clicking on the squares in the earlier demo while they move, then again after they stop. You will see glitches. In real life, users will interact with elements while they move, so it’s worth making sure they are canceled, paused, and updated smoothly.
However, not all animations can be reversed with reverse. Sometimes, we want them to stop and then move to a new position (like when randomly shuffling a list of elements). In this case, we need to:
obtain a size/position of a moving element
finish the current animation
calculate the new size and position differences
start a new animation
In React, this can be harder than it seems. I wasted a lot of time struggling with it. The current animation object must be cached. A good way to do it is to create a Map so to get the animation by an ID. Then, we need to obtain the size and position of the moving element. There are two ways to do it:
Use a function component: Simply loop through every animated element right in the body of the function and cache the current positions.
Use a class component: Use the getSnapshotBeforeUpdate lifecycle method.
In fact, official React docs recommend using getSnapshotBeforeUpdate “because there may be delays between the “render” phase lifecycles (like render) and “commit” phase lifecycles (like getSnapshotBeforeUpdate and componentDidUpdate).” However, there is no hook counterpart of this method yet. I found that using the body of the function component is fine enough.
Don’t fight the browser
I’ve said it before, but avoid fighting the browser and try to make things happen the way the browser would do it. If we need to animate a simple size change, then consider whether CSS would suffice (e.g.  transform: scale()) . I’ve found that FLIP animations are used best where browsers really can’t help:
Animating DOM position change (as we did above)
Sharing layout animations
The second is a more complicated version of the first. There are two DOM elements that act and look as one changing its position (while another is unmounted/hidden). This tricks enables some cool animations. For example, this animation is made with a library I built called react-easy-flip that uses this approach:
CodePen Embed Fallback
Libraries
There are quite a few libraries that make FLIP animations in React easier and abstract the boilerplate. Ones that are currently maintained actively include: react-flip-toolkit and mine, react-easy-flip.
If you do not mind something heavier but capable of more general animations, check out framer-motion. It also does cool shared layout animations! There is a video digging into that library.

Forbidden Fruit Review: 2019 Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic Wagon
Mercedes has for years owned the performance wagon segment in the U.S. Mind you, it’s a vanishingly small piece of the market. Between the demise of the achingly quixotic Cadillac CTS-V wagon in 2014—556-hp supercharged V-8 under the hood, and 514 of them built with a six-speed manual transmission—and this year’s launch of the Audi RS 6 Avant, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S wagon and Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S have been the only players in the segment.
Over in Europe, though, go-fast wagon enthusiasts are spoiled for choice. The midsize Mercedes-AMG C 63 and Audi RS 4 Avant sell alongside their larger siblings. BMW fans can order the 455-hp Alpina B3, based on the 3 Series wagon. Mini offers a 306-hp John Cooper Works version of the Clubman wagon, and Volkswagen a 296-hp Golf R wagon. Hell, even Škoda is in on the act, its front-drive 245-hp Octavia vRS wagon fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels, an electric limited-slip diff, and available with a six-speed manual transmission.
Of them all, the 2019 Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic wagon is perhaps the Goldilocks option: quick and full of AMG character, but not too big and not too expensive.
Europe’s C 43 4Matic wagon is mechanically identical to the recently refreshed C 43 sedan that is part of the Mercedes lineup in the U.S. That means an AMG-massaged twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 under the hood that develops 385 hp at 6,100 rpm and 384 lb-ft of torque from 2,500 rpm to 5,000 rpm. The engine drives all four wheels through the nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission, with 69 percent of the torque directed to the rear axle. AMG Ride Control sport suspension is standard, as are 18-inch alloy wheels with 225/45 tires up front, and 245/40 items at the rear. Cosmetic upgrades include more aggressively styled AMG fascias front and rear, side skirts, and four bazooka-sized exhaust pipes peeking out from under the rear bumper.
Price? In the U.S. the AMG E 63 S wagon is listed at $111,750, a four percent premium over the E 63 S sedan. Applying the same 4 percent premium to the AMG C 43 sedan’s price of $55,950 would suggest a theoretical U.S. market price of about $58,200 for the wagon, or about $1,200 more than Mercedes-Benz USA currently charges for the AMG GLC 43 sport ute.
If you like driving, it’s worth the premium. The all-wheel-drive C 43 4Matic wagon delivers pretty much all the practicality of the GLC 43 SUV (which, let’s face it, no one will actually take any further off-road than the local supermarket parking lot) with none of the dynamic compromises. Weighing 376 pounds less than its SUV cousin, the C43 wagon gets to 60 mph with less effort—it’s at least a tenth of a second quicker—and, helped by its lower center of gravity, feels more agile and planted through the twisties. It rides better, even on the optional 19-inch wheels fitted to our tester, and the lower seating position means lateral body motions are less exaggerated. There’s more oily precision in the steering, and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system gives you exactly the same traction on snowy roads as the GLC 43.
The GLC 43 makes sense if you really need an extra 3.2 inches of ground clearance or have to haul around 3.2 cubic feet more stuff. If you don’t, the AMG C 43 4Matic wagon is way more satisfying to drive, a quick and comfortable cruiser that will devour the interstates yet put a smile on your face on a winding two-lane as you surf the growling twin-turbo V-6’s fat torque curve. And it looks cooler, too; low slung and sleeker, with none of the faux-utilitarian design clichés automakers seem obliged to stick on even the most road-oriented SUVs.
Maybe, once we’re bored with SUVs that are heavier and thirstier than they need to be, and less useful than they pretend to be, America will fall in love with the wagon again. Let’s hope so, because that would open the door to the U.S. market for the engagingly fast, supremely competent, and relatively attainable Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic wagon, the sports car for the modern family.

Study Tips - Part 1/?
This is a (non-comprehensive) list of study tips and attitudes that have helped me get through my first year of uni.
Note-taking:
Think about using a personalized shorthand
This is entirely up to how your brain works and picks out patterns, but I find reading over notes to be much smoother if it flows in my own words, and if there isn’t too much written down to clutter the space.
I use things like “w” instead of the word “with”. I use “=“ when I want to say that something is defined as whatever follows, and I use “≠” to mean that the two terms being separated are exactly opposite in meaning. If two terms mean the same thing and can be used interchangeably, I use a “/”.
Some of the things I do are specific to subjects:
In math, “cont” means continuous and “diff” means differentiable. I only denote “if and only if” statements with iff, never with the double-headed arrow. I only ever write “aa” for amino acids in biology. I will never write “sodium” (or other elements) fully, and will use Na+/K+/H+/P/Ca2+, or H20, O2, CO2, H2SO4, H30+ (with reference to compounds).
I also always use a delta symbol to represent the word “change” or “difference”.
Examples:
“xyz can be labelled w a fluorescent dye...”
“... separation/unzipping of the helix.”
“xyz causes Δ in pH.”
Humour
I used to be pretty particular about the way my notes looked, and I know that marginalia is not always something people want to have. I’m also garbage at doodling.
I would suggest trying this out even if the above apply to you (even if it is on a sticky note or somewhere else!). I found that this was incredibly helpful for me: if anything funny was said in lecture (the prof made a joke, there was some kind of funny interaction...), I wrote it down.
In the margins of a lot of my notes, I now have memorable events alongside coursework. Though this doesn’t necessarily help me study or retain information, it makes the review process a bit more dynamic. I really value, now, my opportunity to slip into the amusement of a moment past, and it keeps me feeling refreshed enough to continue studying.
Examples:
In my biology class this semester, on the first day, in response to something the professor said, my neighbour turned to me and I wrote down what she said. “I love engulfing large particles.” Hilarious, and definitely comes to mind whenever I think about phagocytosis.
“Ladies and gentlemen... you’ll have to deal with his [a classmate’s] puns for the next four years!” Groans, mumbling, and then, “Not if you fail him, Professor!”
“Why would we [the professors] ever use l’Hôpital’s rule when we can just do it in our heads in two seconds with Taylor expansions? Ha!” (which is followed in my notes by: “him @ us fools/plebs.”)
Studying:
Task-based breaks, not time-based ones
I like to break up my time by task. I always read and hear tips that one should study for 1.5 hours and then take a fifteen minute break, then come back, rinse, repeat... My two cents: that doesn’t work for me. Not only am I notoriously bad at respecting the “fifteen minute break” limit, but approaching the 1.5 hour mark, I start to fidget and lose my focus.
Though it certainly isn’t productive or healthy to close yourself up in a room/library/class for hours on end, I find that having a task as your goal is much more rewarding than a time based one. If I tell myself I will eat once I finish all the math problems I have assigned, there is no way for me to creatively manipulate that goal.
That said, I think “productive” breaks are important. Regardless of how you set up your break time, it’s no good if all you do is flip open a new tab on your computer and watch youtube every hour and a half. Walks are good, the gym is good, a healthy snack is good, and the occasional episode of a short and funny show is good.
Ultimately, finishing a task is a great mental reward, and as long as you make sure to chunk responsibilities in manageable bites, you won’t find yourself working longer than is healthy, but you also won’t feel like time is working against you.
Study during daylight hours (in exam time, especially)
Wake up early and study. Try not to stay up late. Ultimately, you won’t get more hours of studying done just because you stay up late (then you sleep in, etc). Unless your productivity goes way up (which doesn’t make much sense, because one gets tired out after a whole day of existing!) at night, sleep when it’s dark and work when it’s daytime. Prioritizing sleep is so important.
Daylight stimulates so many things in the body - so don’t shut yourself up somewhere dark. Get out at least once, open the window, think about sunlight. Give yourself a change of pace from all the pages of notes you’re going through.
Your exam won’t happen at 4 in the morning. Make sure you’re going to be functional whenever it is, which won’t happen if you pull five all-nighters before the exam.
Also, don’t live off of coffee. I love it as much as the next person, and up my intake as stressful periods come and go... but it affects the quality of sleep and can sometimes work against you by making you fidgety. Tea is good as a ~caffeinated drink!
Other resources:
Read&Write
This is a chrome extension that reads your text out to you. There are probably a million other ways to have this happen, but I like this one. I find it hard to focus when I have to read my notes back, an essay I’ve written, or other dense readings. If someone is reading it out to me, it is easier to listen along and harder to get distracted.
Similarly, when doing long readings of well-known books (philosophy readings), I’ve found it very effective to search up the audiobook (maybe speed it up to 1.5 speed if on youtube!) and read my copy while someone is also reading to me. It helps me process the words on a few different levels - the reader’s intonation makes understanding easier for me, it makes it impossible to skim and miss important sections, and it gives me a chance to take some notes without stopping reading.
Rely on others constructively
Working with other people is good, but nothing replaces devoting time to something yourself. Your own ideas, while often positively impacted by discussion with others, can get lost if you only think the way someone else is thinking.
Shared notes are messy and don’t follow linearly. Everyone has different styles for note-taking. If you miss a class and get someone else’s note, rewrite it! After passing through your head, it will be more accessible to you. If you don’t, it’s as good as having it in a different language!
That said, if you have a final coming up with a million essay prompts or something, it can help to divide up tasks and make the preparation easier on you. My philosophy notes for the final are the result of collaboration. However, I intend to copy them to a private document, check them, verify quotes and concepts against my notes from the year, and finally modify all the notes I received. I cannot memorize what someone else wrote for me.
Also, don’t blindly send all your hard-earned notes to someone who does not deserve them, who won’t return the favour, or who is asking at the very last minute. Sharing a day’s worth of notes or helping with a specific question is always good. Writing notes with others in mind can motivate you to take more complete notes and follow everything in lecture! However, the choice someone makes to skip every class all year... is their own problem. Issues of academic dishonesty and plagiarism are not lightly dealt with at any level, so consider what’s at risk and at what possible personal cost before saying yes to every request.
Look for textbooks online (as late as possible)
If you want to avoid selling your soul for a $200 textbook and you don’t mind reading from a computer screen, always look for pdf versions of your textbooks. The catch: some professors suck and they make the most recent version of a textbook the required text. Some of them like to make money by releasing updates to their own books just days before the semester starts. Some have a million “recommended” resources that are... actually mandatory. Some will make you buy four solution manuals along with the textbook (none of which you want or will use). Some will make you buy a book you will never open.
Don’t play yourself by forgetting to buy necessary software for online quizzes or animations, but really look online for whatever else remains. You might be surprised about what’s out there.
All of this is old news. What I’m saying is: don’t get desperate if you can’t find your textbook online before classes start. If you know you can buy it from the school bookstore anytime, and you can afford to go a few lessons without a book (or maybe you can borrow a classmate’s!), wait. Someone will upload that pdf you need, but maybe it will take a few days.
I found two HUGE textbooks of mine online (bio and organic chemistry), though neither was available as a pdf at the beginning of term. My reason to have them both in paper copy and electronic copy is that I avoid lugging them around on my long commute. I also plan to sell the hard copies after the year is done, but keep the digital ones for possible reference.
So many resources are available - try them all out at least once
Inside the classroom setting, take advantage of review sessions and question periods to seek clarification.
If you want, make some friends in class - at least so that you have someone to fall back on if you’re ill, can’t come to class, or if your computer crashes and you lose everything. If you have questions after a practical, a problem set, an essay, or a test, there is always someone there who can help you work through it.
Outside the classroom... you have infinite resources. Free ones, too! Youtube channels like crash-course have helped me with getting a full understanding of historical periods and gaining a foundation for classwork. Professor Dave Explains’ channel has been invaluable for me in organic chemistry. I’ve listened through many a lecture by Dr. Sadler to gain new perspectives on some of my philosophy readings. I’ve also looked online for suggestions about approaches to different math problems and physics questions, because sometimes a comment in some random forum can inspire you to get to the answer!
Also, check out past exams and tests! Even if you can’t do them all or don’t have an answer key, they help you feel more prepared for the structure of an assessment. Along those lines, check out model answers or assignments if they are provided or offered. Before the assignment is due, this will help you make sure you are including everything you need. After the assignment is due, this will help you improve your answers and see where you went wrong.
Thanks for reading, I hope to be back soon with more tips!

How To Learn CSS
How To Learn CSS
How To Learn CSS
Rachel Andrew
2019-01-02T14:00:30+02:00 2019-01-02T14:35:21+00:00
I get a lot of people asking me to recommend to them tutorials on various parts of CSS, or asking how to learn CSS. I also see a lot of people who are confused about bits of CSS, in part because of outdated ideas about the language. Given that CSS has changed quite substantially in the last few years, this is a really good time to refresh your knowledge. Even if CSS is a small part of what you do (because you work elsewhere in the stack), CSS is how things end up looking as you want them on screen, so it is worth being reasonably up to date.
Therefore, this article aims to outline the key fundamentals of CSS and resources for further reading on key areas of modern CSS development. Many of those are things right here on Smashing Magazine, but I’ve also selected some other resources and also people to follow in key areas of CSS. It’s not a complete beginner guide or intended to cover absolutely everything. My aim is to cover the breadth of modern CSS with a focus on a few key areas, that will help to unlock the rest of the language for you.
Language Fundamentals
For much of CSS, you don’t need to worry about learning properties and values by heart. You can look them up when you need them. However, there are some key underpinnings of the language, without which you will struggle to make sense of it. It really is worth dedicating some time to making sure you understand these things, as it will save you a lot of time and frustration in the long run.
Front-end is messy and complicated these days. That’s why we publish articles, printed books and webinars with useful techniques to improve your work. Even better: Smashing Membership with a growing selection of front-end & UX goodies. So you get your work done, better and faster.

Selectors, More Than Just Class
A selector does what it says on the tin, it selects some part of your document in order that you can apply CSS rules to it. While most people are familiar with using a class, or styling an HTML element such as body directly, there are a large number of more advanced selectors which can select elements based on their location in the document, perhaps because they come directly after an element, or are the odd rows in a table.
The selectors that are part of the Level 3 specification (you may have heard them referred to as Level 3 selectors) have excellent browser support. For a detailed look at the various selectors you can use, see the MDN Reference.
Some selectors act as if you had applied a class to something in the document. For example p:first-child behaves as if you added a class to the first p element, these are known as pseudo-class selectors. The pseudo-element selectors act as if an element was dynamically inserted, for example ::first-line acts in a similar way to you wrapping a span around the first line of text. However it will reapply if the length of that line changes, which wouldn’t be the case if you inserted the element. You can get fairly complex with these selectors. In the below CodePen is an example of a pseudo-element chained with a pseudo-class. We target the first p element with a :first-child psuedo-class, then the ::first-line selector selects the first line of that element, acting as if a span was added around that first line in order to make it bold and change the color.
See the Pen first-line by Rachel Andrew (@rachelandrew) on CodePen.
Inheritance And The Cascade
The cascade defines which rule wins when a number of rules could apply to one element. If you have ever been in a situation where you can’t understand why some CSS doesn’t seem to be applying, it’s likely the cascade is tripping you up. The cascade is closely linked to inheritance, which defines which properties are inherited by the child elements of the element they are applied to. It is also linked to specificity, different selectors have different specificity which controls which wins when there are several selectors which could apply to one element.
Note: To get an understanding of all of these things, I would suggest reading The Cascade and Inheritance, in the MDN Introduction to CSS.
If you are struggling with getting some CSS to apply to an element then your browser DevTools are the best place to start, take a look at the example below in which I have an h1 element targeted by the element selector h1 and making the heading orange. I am also using a class, which sets the h1 to rebeccapurple. The class is more specific and so the h1 is purple. In DevTools, you can see that the element selector is crossed out as it does not apply. Once you can see that the browser is getting your CSS (but something else has overruled it), then you can start to work out why.
See the Pen specificity by Rachel Andrew (@rachelandrew) on CodePen.
Tumblr media
DevTools can help you see why some CSS is not applying to an element (Large preview)
The Box Model
CSS is all about boxes. Everything that is displayed on the screen has a box, and the Box Model describes how the size of that box is worked out — taking into account margins, padding, and borders. The standard CSS Box Model takes the width that you have given an element, then adds onto that width the padding and border — meaning that the space taken up by the element is larger than the width you gave it.
More recently, we have been able to choose to use an alternate box model which uses the given width on the element as the width of the visible element on screen. Any padding or border will inset the content of the box from the edges. This makes a lot more sense for many layouts.
In the demo below, I have two boxes. Both have a width of 200 pixels, with a border of 5 pixels and padding of 20 pixels. The first box uses the standard box model and so takes up a total width of 250 pixels, the second the alternate Box Model and so is actually 200 pixels wide.
See the Pen box models by Rachel Andrew (@rachelandrew) on CodePen.
Browser DevTools can once again help you with understanding the box model in use. In the below image, I use Firefox DevTools to inspect a box using the default content-box box model. The tools tell me this is the Box Model in use, and I can see the sizing and how the border and padding is added to the width I assigned.
Tumblr media
DevTools help you see why a box is a certain size, and the box model in use (Large preview)
Note: Prior to IE6, Internet Explorer used the alternate Box Model, with padding and borders insetting content away from the given width. So for a while browsers used different Box Models! When frustrated by interoperability issues today, be glad that things have improved so we aren’t dealing with browsers calculating the width of things differently.
There is a good explanation of the Box Model and Box Sizing on CSS Tricks, plus an explanation of the best way to globally use the alternate box model in your site.
Normal Flow
If you have a document with some HTML marking up the content and view it in a browser, it will hopefully be readable. Headings and paragraphs will start on a new line, words display as a sentence with a single white space between them. Links for formatting such as em does not break up the sentence flow. This content is being displayed in Normal Flow, or Block Flow Layout. Each part of the content is described as “in flow”; it knows about the rest of the content and so doesn’t overlap.
If you work with rather than against this behavior, your life is made much easier. It is one of the reasons why starting with a correctly marked up HTML document makes a lot of sense, as due to normal flow and the inbuilt stylesheets that browsers have which respect it, your content starts from a readable place.
Formatting Contexts
Once you have a document with content in normal flow, you may want to change how some of that content looks. You do this by changing the formatting context of the element. As a very simple example, if you wanted all of your paragraphs to run together and not start on a new line, you could change the p element to display: inline changing in from a block to an inline formatting context.
Formatting contexts essentially define an outer and an inner type. The outer controls how the element behaves alongside other elements on the page, the inner controls how the children should look. So, for example, when you say display: flex you are setting the outer to be a block formatting context, and the children to have a flex formatting context.
Note : The latest version of the Display Specification changes the values of display to explicitly declare the inner and outer value. Therefore, in the future you might say display: block flex; (block being the outer and flex being the inner).
Read more about display over at MDN.
Being In Or Out Of Flow
Elements in CSS are described as being ‘in flow’ or ‘out of flow.’ Elements in flow are given space and that space is respected by the other elements in flow. If you take an element out of flow, by floating or positioning it, then the space for that element will no longer be respected by other in flow items.
This is most noticeable with absolutely positioned items. If you give an item position: absolute it is removed from flow, then you will need to ensure that you do not have a situation in which the out of flow element overlaps and makes unreadable some other part of your layout.
See the Pen Out of Flow: absolute positioning by Rachel Andrew (@rachelandrew) on CodePen.
However, floated items also are removed from flow, and while following content will wrap around the shortened line boxes of a floated element, you can see by placing a background color on the box of the following elements that they have risen up and are ignoring the space used by the floated item.
See the Pen Out of flow: float by Rachel Andrew (@rachelandrew) on CodePen.
You can read more about in flow and out of flow elements on MDN. The important thing to remember is that if you take an element out of flow, you need to manage overlap yourself as the regular rules of block flow layout no longer apply.
Layout
For over fifteen years we have been doing layout in CSS without a designed for the job layout system. This has changed. We now have a perfectly capable layout system which includes Grid and Flexbox, but also Multiple-column Layout and the older layout methods used for their real purpose. If CSS Layout is a mystery to you, head on over to the MDN Learn Layout tutorial, or read my article Getting Started With CSS Layout here on Smashing Magazine.
Do not imagine that methods such as grid and flexbox are somehow competing. In order to use Layout well, you will sometimes find a component is best as a flex component and sometimes as Grid. On occasion, you will want the column flowing behavior of multicol. All of these are valid choices. If you feel you are fighting against the way something behaves, that is, in general, a very good sign that it might be worth taking a step back and trying a different approach. We are so used to hacking at CSS to make it do what we want, and so we are likely to forget that we have a number of other options to try.
Layout is my main area of expertise and I’ve written a number of articles here on Smashing Magazine and elsewhere to try and help tame the new Layout landscape. In addition to the Layout article mentioned above, I have a whole series on Flexbox — start with What Happens When You Create a Flexbox Flex Container. On Grid By Example, I have a whole bunch of small examples of CSS Grid — plus a video screencast tutorial.
In addition — and especially for designers — check out Jen Simmons and her Layout Land video series.
Alignment
I’ve separated Alignment out from Layout in general because while most of us were introduced to Alignment as part of Flexbox, these properties apply to all layout methods, and it is worth understanding them in that context rather than thinking about “Flexbox Alignment” or “CSS Grid alignment.” We have a set of Alignment properties which work in a common way where possible; they then have some differences due to the way different layout methods behave.
On MDN, you can dig into Box Alignment and how it is implemented for Grid, Flexbox, Multicol, and Block Layout. Here on Smashing Magazine, I have an article specifically covering alignment in Flexbox: Everything You Need To Know About Alignment In Flexbox.
Sizing
I spent much of 2018 speaking about the Intrinsic and Extrinsic Sizing specification, and how it relates to Grid and Flexbox in particular. On the web, we are used to setting sizing in lengths or percentages, as this is how we have been able to make Grid-type layouts using floats. However, modern layout methods can do a lot of the space distribution for us — if we let them. Understanding how Flexbox assigns space (or the Grid fr unit works), is worth your time.
Here on Smashing Magazine, I’ve written about Sizing in Layout in general and also for Flexbox in How Big Is That Flexible Box?.
Responsive Design
Our new layout methods of Grid and Flexbox often mean that we can get away with fewer media queries than we needed with our older methods, due to the fact that they are flexible and respond to changes in viewport or component size without us needing to change the widths of elements. However, there will be places where you will want to add in some breakpoints to further enhance your designs.
Here are some simple guides to Responsive Design, and for media queries, in general, check out my article Using Media Queries for Responsive Design in 2018. I take a look at what Media Queries are useful for, and also show the new features coming to Media Queries in Level 4 of the spec.
Fonts And Typography
Along with Layout, the use of fonts on the web has undergone huge change in the last year. Variable Fonts, enabling a single font file to have unlimited variations, are here. To get an overview of what they are and how they work, watch this excellent short talk from Mandy Michael: Variable Fonts and the Future of Web Design. Also, I would recommend Dynamic Typography With Modern CSS and Variable Fonts by Jason Pamental.
To explore Variable Fonts and their capabilities, there is a fun demo from Microsoft plus a number of playgrounds to try out Variable Fonts — Axis Praxis being the most well known (I also like the Font Playground).
Once you start working with Variable Fonts, then this guide on MDN will prove incredibly useful. To learn how to implement a fallback solution for browsers which does not support Variable Fonts read Implementing a Variable Font With Fallback Web Fonts by Oliver Schöndorfer. The Firefox DevTools Font Editor also has support for working with Variable Fonts.
Transforms And Animation
CSS Transforms and Animation are definitely something I look upon a need-to-know basis. I don’t often need to use them, and the syntax seems to hop right out of my head between uses. Thankfully, the reference on MDN helps me out and I would suggest starting with the guides on Using CSS Transforms and Using CSS Animations. Zell Liew also has a nice article that provides a great explanation to CSS transitions.
To discover some of the things that are possible, take a look at the Animista site.
One of the things that can be confusing about animations, is which approach to take. In addition to what is supported in CSS, you might need to involve JavaScript, SVG, or the Web Animation API, and these things all tend to get lumped together. In her talk, Choose Your Animation Adventure recorded at An Event Apart, Val Head explains the options.
Use Cheatsheets As A Reminder, Not A Learning Tool
When I mention Grid or Flexbox resources, I often see replies saying that they can’t do Flexbox without a certain cheatsheet. I have no problem with cheatsheets as a memory helper to look up syntax, and I’ve published some of my own. The problem with entirely relying on those is that you can miss why things work as you copy syntax. Then, when you hit a case where that property seems to behave differently, that apparent inconsistency seems baffling, or a fault of the language.
If you find yourself in a situation where CSS seems to be doing something very strange, ask why. Create a reduced test case that highlights the issue, ask someone who is more familiar with the spec. Many of the CSS problems I am asked about are because that person believes a property works in a different way to the way it works in reality. It’s why I talk a lot about things like alignment and sizing, as these are places where this confusion often lives.
Yes, there are strange things in CSS. It is a language that has evolved over the years, and there are things about it that we can’t change — until we invent a timemachine. However, once you have some basics down, and understand why things behave as they do, you will have a much easier time with the trickier places.

Meet the Father/Son–Built 1969 Camaro That Won the Super Chevy Suspension Challenge
Like an Olympic torch passed from runner to runner, on its way to the games, so, too, is the automotive hobby passed from father to son. This year, at the 2017 Classic Industries Super Chevy Muscle Car Challenge presented by Falken Tires, the fastest times weren’t clocked by a purpose-built race car or some professional hot-shoe driver, but instead by 24-year-old Jake Rozelle in his dad’s 1969 Camaro.
“It’s a genuine street car,” says Jake Rozelle about the 1969 Camaro RS his dad, Roy, brought home 14 years ago. My dad bought the car for his 40th birthday, as something we could build into a great-handling, fun street car we could take to the track.
The duo already had a Camaro in the stable, but it wasn’t fit for the kind of drive-the-wheels-off-it action the Rozelles desired. “We had a ’68 Z/28,” said Rozelle. “It was great, but the car was perfectly original, and we didn’t want to change it. We wanted a car that was fast and handled well that we could take to Pro Touring-style events.”
So, originality was left untouched and work started on the ’69. The Rozelles made minor improvements over the next couple of years, including bolt-on suspension components, a more powerful engine, and a 12-bolt axle.
The boys started taking the car out to local, Pro Touring–style events and the wins began stacking up. When the Ultimate Street Car Association (USCA) came into being, the car became a regular at competition.
“When the USCA stuff started we began to take the car to events,” said Rozelle. “I was a little bit quicker than my dad so I started driving and he started coming to the events as my support crew. We were winning local stuff pretty consistently, but every time we would go up against stiffer competition at bigger events, we’d get our butts kicked.”
The car was fun and competitive for the most part, but if they were going to compete on a national level, some major hardware upgrades were necessary. “My dad came to me and said, ‘Hey, we do all this work on the car and you’re a pretty good driver … what if we gave this thing a real shot?’ That was when we took the car to JCG Restorations in Camarillo, California.”
JCG installed the full complement of Detroit Speed, Inc., (DSE) suspension and a DSE mini-tub on the rear of the Camaro, as well as a full rollcage. The car received a Speedway Engineering 9-inch–style rear axle with 3.73 gears and a full floating axle, as well as JRi double-adjustable shocks, custom valved by Ultimate Performance.
In addition to the host of handling upgrades, the car also received an LS7 engine from Lingenfelter Performance––a far cry from the aging, outgoing small-block. With Jake at the wheel and 685 newfound horsepower on tap, the Camaro was a force to be reckoned with.
“The first USCA event we attended [after the upgrades] I drove the car halfway to Laguna Seca to get my first impressions of the all new DSE front and rear suspension and break in the new diff and LS7,” said Jake. “To take Third at that event behind Danny Popp and Mike Maier with a car so unsorted was incredible and was something I will always remember as a great weekend with my dad.”
The Rozelles went for broke with the car, charging hard into the USCA series with the Camaro and it didn’t go unnoticed. They caught the attention of Falken Tire who helped ship the car around the country to races. They pushed hard, continued to develop and improve the car, and in 2016, all of the hard work paid off in the form of a 2016 USCA Championship.
“It was one of the most stressful and rewarding experiences of my life,” he said. “It was a great experience with my dad. At that point, I didn’t live with my parents anymore and I was on the phone with my dad every day talking about the car and sponsors, and the next event. It was a really cool way to stay close to my dad after I moved out.”
The team accepted their trophy at the 2016 SEMA Show, took a deep breath, and pondered the future of the car and their father-son racing enterprises. “My dad and I kind of looked at each other and said, we won, do we want to keep doing this? We decided to retire the car in 2016. The car found refuge in the corner of the shop until a call from Super Chevy magazine gave cause to dust it off. We got the call to compete [at the Muscle Car Challenge] and pulled the car back out of the garage.
“The car was pretty tired after the last race season, so we went through the whole thing to get it ready for the challenge,” said Rozelle. “It had done around 20 events before we parked it, so it was definitely hammered. We refreshed it with new fluids and added a new Wilwood clutch master cylinder. If it wasn’t for the challenge it would still be in the corner.”
At the Muscle Car Challenge, the Camaro hauled the mail, setting blistering times in every event. But what makes it so good? The suspension? The driver? Rozelle has a theory.
“The reason that car is so good is the seat time,” he says. “We have developed it so much and just have so much time behind the wheel tuning the suspension, engine, and chassis to my liking. In my opinion, our Camaro is the ultimate street car.”

It was a tight race between a heard of highly competitive cars but with the most competition points, a clear winner emerged. The combination of a well-sorted car and a top-notch driver that knew the car led to a good day for the ’69 Camaro.

Address: 151 Commerce Road, Boynton Beach, FL 33426
When I heard the story of how the Copperpoint Brewery came to be, all I could think about were the vibes that the brewery gave off when I first entered their doors; it screamed “FAMILY!”
Matt Cox started brewing in 1999 and took over brewing operations at Big Bear Brewing Company in 2001. He has won 50+ awards, including the prestigious Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) for his Belgian Dubbel. He has also taken Gold medals at the North American Brewers Assoc., multiple medals at the US Open Beer Championships, and multiple Grand National Champion Awards at the United States Beer Tasting Championships.
After a 9 month search for the perfect space, owners, Al Lettera and Matt Cox, decided on Boynton Beach for their brewery when they found a great building that was perfect for their operation & they finally opened their doors in 2015. Matt and his wife work together with Al & their staff of under 20 people to truly give you that “family style” feeling when you walk through their doors.
Brewmaster, Matt Cox, brews his “traditional beer styles with bold, intense flavors” and several seasonal beers that will range from 5%-12% alcohol on a 20 bbl, DME brewing system, built in Prince Edward Island. Initially utilizing 5 fermenters, (3 – 20bbl and 2 – 40bbls). Patrons can enjoy what Matt describes as “diverse beers and some experimental, out of the box styles” in a spacious, and nicely built out, air conditioned, tasting room.
The tasting room has a warm, industrial feel with a glass window looking into the brewery. The full time tasting room is open to the public who can come for a pint, growler fills, tours, and catch some games on TV. Food is available by delivery by one of the on-site food trucks or catering.
(They currently have a their bock sitting in “Angels Envy” barrels that will be sitting in the cask for 6-9 months!)
We were really excited when it was time to take the tour! And what made it even better was our friend Jim offered us a glass of our choice of beer! Marilyn went for the “Blood Orange Wit” & I went for the “B Rabbit Nitro Stout.” We learned that what makes them different than most breweries (and you can definitely taste it in the beer) is that Matt is a stickler for being clean; Jim gave us the break down that 80-85% of the time in the brewery is spent cleaning the equipment & 15-20% of the time is actually spent brewing beer. They use reverse osmosis to provide the water for the beer & they steam heat their beer instead of just boiling the water for higher temps.
An even cooler thing we learned is for whatever beer is being brewed, they use hops and grains specific to that region to give you a taste like it was coming from there. Which makes it easy to understand why their lager and pilsner fly off the shelves! Their lager is bought so much that they don’t even tap it! They get it straight from the tank!
*Fun Fact: Their lagers and pilsners sit in their tanks for up to six weeks! This makes it harder to brew than other beers because it takes that long to ferment; you can taste the quality in Copperpoints beers!
They’re all about local love too and use nothing but all natural ingredients in their process. When their grains and hops are all used up, they have local farmers come and pick it up to use it as feed for their animals. They recently also collaborated with 5 diff breweries and brewed an “Irma Beer” where all the proceeds gained went straight to Puerto Rico!
(We also got to try a new IPA they’re releasing that hasn’t even been put out yet! Read on for my thoughts under the “Here’s what I thought” section.)
They currently have 12 BEERS ON TAP! And what makes it more amazing is that each one is different from the last and they are all brewed in house!
Here are the explanations from the brewery:
Lager (5% Alc/ 18 IBU): Malty, Amber, German style lager with slight malt sweetness. Flavors of toasted bread, very easy drinking, smooth everyday session lager.
Das Pils (5.2% Alc/ 40 IBU): Classically brewed German Pilsner; All German malts, yeast and Noble hops. Lagered for six weeks for a smooth, mellow flavor. Delicate malt character, light body, with a crisp hop finish.
Witness (5.3% Alc/ 14 IBU): Classically brewed Belgian Wit: Brewed with 5O% wheat malt, spiced with traditional spices of orange peel and coriander, unfiltered and very hazy. Mild wheat flavor with citrus undertones.
Blood Orange Wit (5.3% Alc/ 50 IBU): Our classic Beligian witbier infused with generous amounts of Blood Orange for a bold, citrus character.
*Trula Saison (6.3% Alc/ 40 IBU): Rustic Belgian style farmhouse ale, old world brewing techniques of warm fermentation to bring out the complexity of the yeast stain for true to style flavors, aroma’s and mouth feel. Boldly hopped with Heirloom noble hops with no spices added. All the unique flavors present are from the yeast strain and hops used in the brewing.
“G” (Grapefruit) Saison (6.3% Alc/ 40 IBU): Our Trula saison with the addition of Ruby Red Grapefruit for extra drinkability and refreshment. Perfect for the warm Florida weather!
A-10 Hop Hog (7% Alc/ 55 IBU): Red IPA; Intense complex red IPA with the delicious Mosaic hop varietal. Bright tropical mango and passion fruit flavors from the mosaic hop with a firm malt backbone.
B-20 Bombardier (9.6% Alc/ 90 IBU): B 20 bombardier is the imperial version of our A-10 Hophog Red IPA. We dropped a payload of Amarillo and Mosaic hops on a huge malt base. Dangerously smooth and balanced at 9.6%ABV and 90IBU. Our Award-Winning B-20 Bombardier was named Grand National Champion Double IPA at the 2016 United States Beer Tasting Championship.
One Love IPA (7.0% Alc/ 60 IBU): Bold, hop forward American IPA (Indian Pale Ale); Copious amounts of whole leaf Cascade and Simcoe hops for a bold bright flavor, smooth balanced character with notes of citrus and pine standing out.
B Rabbit Espresso Cream Stout (6.0%/ 20 IBU): Classic British style oatmeal cream stout, smooth creamy balanced and roasted flavors. Infused with locally roasted Rabbit coffee from Rivera Beach. This stout is nitrogen infused so it is a lively pour and needs time to settle.
Pumpkin Queen [(Pumpkin Ale) 6.5% Alc]: No Description available
Keys To Summer [(Key Lime Kolsch) 5.0% Alc): No Description available
Just Beet It [(Beet Raspberry Kolsch) 5.0% Alc): No Description available
Baby Got Bock [(Bock) 7.0% Alc]: No Description Available
2017 Cox Diesel [(Imperial Porter) 9.4% Alc): No Description available
Here’s what I thought:
Lager: Amber lager; delicious crisp flavor, malty, washes over your pallet, light.
Das pils: Light. Crisp. Refreshing. Smooth. Felt like I was back in Oktoberfest.
Witness: Was not on tap.
Blood Orange Wit: Has a malty hoppy after taste. Tastes like a citrusy tripel.
*Trula Saison: Special release for the holidy; was bottled (will review when opened & tasted)
“G” (Grapefruit) Saison: Slight citrus aftertaste. Nots of Mango. Light. Crisp. Refreshing.
A-10 Hop Hog: Hoppy. Crisp. Refreshing. Not over bearing. The lighter version of the B-20 Bombardier.
B-20 Bombardier: Full bodied IPA. Crisp. A legit hoppy IPA. Not too heavy or overbearing.
One Love IPA: Was not on tap.
B Rabbit Espresso Stout: Full bodied stout. Creamy. Smooth. Washes over your pallet. Tastes of espresso at the end.
Pumpkin Queen: Legit pumpkin ale. Cinnamon aftertaste. not too sweet. Washes over your pallet.
Keys To Summer: Taste like biting into a delicious fresh key lime pie, but it’s drizzled in honey as well. Crisp. Refreshing.
Just Beet It: Taste like a beety raspberry juice. Delicious. Can sit back and drink this all day.
Baby Got Bock: A true bock. Notes of coffee. Clean, crisp taste. Delicious.
2017 Cox Diesel: Coffee stout. Full bodied. True stout. Completely envelopes your mouth.
*Unreleased IPA*: Supreme citrus scents. Hoppy as well. Is almost ready for release so taste will change. The happiness is not overbearing. It’s crisp, refreshing. Not heavy at all.
So all in all while we didn’t eat anything; the ambiance of the brewery, the service from the staff and the beers we were served I would give Copperpoint Brewing Company 5 out of 5 piggys!
     (How cool is this urinal!!!)
(And here are some more special release casks that they will start getting out there for the holidays! They have porters and stouts in these bad boys!)
Be sure to check them out; they always have events going on!

// FLIP Before the WAAPI el.style.transform = `translateY(200px)`;
 requestAnimationFrame(() => {   el.style.transform = ''; });
For example, sometimes getting a FLIP animation to work flawlessly in Firefox requires calling requestAnimationFrame twice:
requestAnimationFrame(() => {   requestAnimationFrame(() => {     el.style.transform = '';   }); });
Here’s the outline of the WAAPI version:
el.classList.toggle('someclass'); const keyframes = /* Calculate the size/position diff */; el.animate(keyframes, 2000);

KingsRoad Bot
While using the desktop, this It isn't extremely egregious, however, when it will certainly take place it will certainly be prominent. All of the event is especially directly line, just like the charts, no less than commonly, even though they all adhere to a the same blueprint. |Opponents also commence with possessing qualities like knockdown, level of acidity problems, hails of arrows, plus much more. Signing up for on top of buddies (or accomplish some people) can return you further xp and advantages, but you’ll have tons of products and solutions to get. Whereas new pushes are gated by place, it is possible to sure make what you have got astonishingly, very efficient. Beyond the blacksmith and enchanter, there are other npcs you’ll go through in Kingsroad Cheats 2016. The ios harbour of Kingsroad Cheats 2016 produces this approach rpg Modeled immediately following other impressive arpg bots like torchlight, you carry out a style during a lot of quests, down an outing, and might replay each and every one consideration that you simply open up. component in your adventure in the future right from the start. At battle’s conclude, the analysis was still as stressful. Or anything else. |It isn't an mmo but neither is it an absolute single rpg perhaps as party carry out isn't optionally available. It's modeled cautiously sufficiently to impressive standard rpgs it performs certainly however it accidents much lower in party carry out Tones, far less as my women shadowy day grunted and unveiled in the macho-fella sound (and we will not touch upon the feminine character’s too little overall body armour). The sport is usually carried out without charge, even so the beginner package of gems (99 cents) provide you with a lift (i devoted it on supply living space). Simply because the not too long ago sprang lower back hero you have to defend your world from people today trying to learn about in your turmoil. The sport continues to be relatively easy personally in relation to relationships. I carried out drankensang for a time, but bear in mind making use of the refreshes involved with it, it very quickly overpowered the mem power of my (reasonably priced) laptop or computer on the time i almost certainly could you can forget introduction the sport. I'll just get right to the time pro’s: -captivating illustrations for every browser -no pay2win whatsoever (gems is usually acquired during godmode tool) -virtually every 2 time new content and articles -automotive infiltration and automotive loot modes -superior godmode tool, like escalating ur dragons con’s: -insanely grinded farm (it is best to farm for a few days at later on tools (easiest is fabled, but grind starts out from relic tools superior quality immediately following 2 time u really should farm additional tools to get with more favorable stats) -a great deal of unfixed insects and glitches -sufficiently terrible help -storyline charts can be extremely repeated and uninspiring to learn them -loads of “kiddish and crying” spammers over the global chat’s -really easily to hack and hoax godmode tool. - most severe determines in your nice reputation for games. |I carried out farmville essentially 24 months. It’s now 2015 and i'm departing it. And yet my big very bad thing is you could not even consult with a business if you ever not communicate spanish even on american web servers heya ima murica you don't need to learn languages international u be aware of planet requirement learn about merican simply because we're unique and our lang would be the most challenging vernacular to speak so sickly just presume dat virtually every no-murica cant browse uk simply because they not cost-free and they also jaja instead of lmao, k k i actually do not be aware of diff between spanish and portuguese but precisely what internet marketing united states of america farmville is cool, i love how simplistic it would be with buddies.. It hurts. I attained up to lvl 22 up to now and it is absolutely start to get uninspiring and it is difficult more favorable tools without a demand credit card. And that i get awful graphical ripping on screen with the help of stainless and it is playable on firefox with most up-to-date flash but fps is beneath 10 fps. Gained tired really easily on poe ,optimism farmville not make me to be be the identical way you can purchase the archer course for 100,000 coins. Everest. You will designate very different pushes to match your amount row (secrets 1-5 in Kingsroad Cheats 2016) and bust them in battle to declined your opponents. |really an endless supply of items collected in your corpses of a foes. cost-free-to-carry out methods you will have some components that aren't identical to Kingsroad Cheats 2016‘s inspirations irrespective of how you portion it. Kingsroad Cheats 2016 is undoubtedly an event that is absolutely, honestly public. The sole other twist that is attached aided by the genre’s go with cost-free-to-carry out is mostly a which may massage most people a bad style (even though privately, i am making the most of it). As you have very likely suspected from my gushing, Kingsroad Cheats 2016 is mostly a heck of a godmode tool. Number of through thresholds undertake enough time to carry out, so it’s certainly intended for handheld carry out. Your may get established products and solutions without charge with dungeons and my personality is whooping compensated information without the need of moolah devote him. Although not buck or higher - we're discussing about 100's of us dollars. |The sport is usually carried out both in lone-person and supportive multiple-person modes, and it is cost-free-to-have fun with optionally available in-software program products of challenging forex. This may cause the sport astonishingly hospitable to brief carry out treatments and in many cases will cause it to be certainly intended for viable foreseeable future adaptation to cell technology. The sport aspects via internet supportive multiple-person with an automatic dating device. Selected chests based in the thresholds could be unlocked by expending challenging forex - because these chests ensure players products and solutions of a specified superior quality, it is going to be challenging for players to take care of up to a whopping these, but advancement can be created with no need to open up these. At different milestones, the video gamer is provided with not so big prizes of challenging forex, so if the quest is totally “mastered” the compensate can be a larger sized lump sum settlement of challenging forex. products and solutions for perhaps challenging forex or a mix of gentle forex, some time and component part products and solutions an “alchemist” who promotes different enhancer potions in turn for challenging forex and also the common product and products providers. Likewise, the developers typically use pointers in your person starting point, that helps acquire a sense of trust jointly and Kingsroad Cheats 2016 now occupies the 50,000 mau level working with a position of three,826 and also the 10,000 dau level working with a position of two,234. The folks of alderstone have forfeit their emperor, in addition to a bizarre wicked has gone up to enjoy the ensuing turmoil, as wicked typically does. |Or even adventuring, players get back to the most crucial metro area, whereby they can have products and solutions determined, loan company very important products, forge blog website in your blacksmith or devote technique guidelines on elegant expertise. Though the men from rumble activities are attempting their fortune utilizing their latest subject Kingsroad Cheats 2016, a browser-based upon, and motions-driven role-participating in mmo. At a later date, players might be scored for the way certainly she or he finished the instance as well as be recognized with gems you can use to enhance their supply slot machines, open up chests and reset their technique trees and shrubs. This.is.alderstone!!! Every individual person can select between three instructional classes - the shadowy day, the ranger and also the wizard. The opportunity to make your hero how you like makes the game play carry out far more fulfilling. Putting these limited features makes the game play fascinating to discover like you turned into a perception for you to aren't mindlessly droning about and chasing during charts monotonously. obtain an product of a more favorable evaluation, anything that the level of product it's. Its account demands a nameless hero that's particular to safeguard the lands of alderstone from a wicked enterprise through adamar. Individuals really need to be alert and try to thoroughly go their hero lest they’d be ambushed by several bandits and mercenaries unprepared. |Whereas Kingsroad Cheats 2016 has some public ingredients with guilds and unique raiding times, it's possible to avoid all people today jointly and merely still grind making use of the charts to find more favorable products and solutions for his or her hero. Experts - clean and pleasurable-searching backdrops - vision-finding personality models and motions sequences - players can alter in-between instructional classes - very different technique tree branches to check - extensive product progression using creating and enchanting - players can re-operated concluded occasions that rises its hardship and return far more past experiences and even more rare product drops cons - no women variations through three instructional classes - account is uninspiring and it is typically times an afterthought - personality customization only occur in equipping new releases - technique shrub resets have to have selecting in-godmode tool forex ahead of possessing the capacity to take a look at new creates - each and every one course will have to be leveled up singularly to obtain additional formidable - no pvp to speak of irrespective of some problems, Kingsroad Cheats 2016 usually deliver on some points and it is still a enjoyable godmode tool to discover. Also, virtually every 2 time quite likely going to event, and also to have fun participating in the bronze standard (to begin with standard through 4 levels) you'll call for a electricity of 1100 guidelines. Acquaintances may possibly be requested, for not more than 3 for typical co-op, and 4 for battle coliseum battles. Expertise guidelines are attained lacking invest in by simply progressing up. godmode tool carry out in Kingsroad Cheats 2016 always starts out in a small center place, which hosts the numerous folks you save yourself in your thresholds-they include a organize, a blacksmith, and almost all additional traditional rpg providers. You can actually get gold rings by applying your cursor regarding this, but you have to click other products and solutions. I am instead far less happy aided by the creating and buying and selling techniques. And when you won't choose to wreck destruction on that, there is a service provider who promotes physical health products which are instead less efficient. |Obviously, as a cost-free-to-carry out godmode tool, Kingsroad Cheats 2016 provides you with tons of benefits for any prepared to give. So people who carry out motions-rpgs obsessively will never have main problem sinking too much time into Kingsroad Cheats 2016. Obviously, you slackers participating in in the office probably will transform the appear to be away from regardless. Various charts to grasp more information about. Due to the fact power and star flourish, your business brand will echo all around the Kingsroad Cheats 2016. March 2017 Spotlights
The Spotlights for March 2017 have been released and can be found here! Their respective packs will be soon available at the Beatmap Pack Listing for easier access.
Spotlights Creation
The spotlights have previously been created by letting volunteers alongside the Quality Assurance Team select the most noteworthy maps of this month. We also reward the top beatmap in each category by providing 1 month of supporter status to the mapper.
osu! (7)
SHK - East West Wobble by Irreversible (Nominator: Mao)
This mapset combines great mapping with a catchy traditional-asian-inspired song and a simple and nice storyboard! While Irreversible is already well-known amongst the community for his signature pattern-based mapping style, the highest difficulties' creative usage of symmetry and stacking is unique and refreshing to see. The rest of the spread is simple but nicely executed. This mapset is definitely worth checking out!
orangentle / Yu_Asahina - HAELEQUIN (Extended ver.) by Cellina and Dailycare (Nominator: Mao)
This collaboration, created by Cellina and Dailycare, covers the song's varying intensity very well. Clean patterning and various interesting stream and spacing techniques are used nicely to create a fun, coherent experience! Overall, the mapping style reminds me of RLC's older works, so if you like that kind of mapping, make sure to check this map out!
Himeringo - Koitsubakihime by toybot (Nominator: -kevincela-)
This is a very solid map, where all the difficulties generally reflect the song really nicely and highlight its intensity quite well. Another plus is also the fact that it has a well distributed spread, which makes it appropriate for a wide range of players!
Linkin Park - Living Things by 384059043 (Nominator: Irreversible)
Were you ever thinking: "Why does no one ever map a marathon with an english song?" Well, now it's the time where you will finally get what you want: Check out this brilliant mapset, which doesn't leave out the people who aren't confident in playing Extra difficulties; Having combined an Extra and a Hard difficulty in one marathon mapset, players of (almost) every kind are invited to play these well-mapped difficulties!
Porter Robinson - Goodbye To A World by Monstrata (Nominator: pishifat)
Using a concept similar to his infamous "A-L-I-E-N", this map by Monstrata focuses on expression of the song through various slider designs. He uses mostly smooth/curved slidershapes to represent ordinary parts of the music, then extremely sharp/jagged slidershapes to represent intense parts of the song. This slidershape concept also covers the differences between vocals in the song, which are clear or distorted at times. Two sliders rarely share the exact same design, but they do share enough of the same characteristics to be associated regardless, which is an interesting idea worth bringing forward here on the March Spotlight.
kors k feat. Yukacco - On The Beat (Akira Complex Remix) by Naitoshi (Nominator: -kevincela-)
Very interesting map which reflects the song's instruments by taking advantage of the slider leniency, providing an interesting experience composed of holds and dropoffs. Recommended for who likes technical and/or slider-heavy maps.
LiSA - Catch the Moment by Delis (Nominator: Irreversible)
An enjoyable mapset for those, who'd like to play a full-length song by LiSA. The diffs are well-mapped and the spread is offering something for every type of player. A must have for all Sword Art Online fans!
osu!taiko (5)
you - Hold Angel by Nishizumi (Nominator: qoot8123)
Unlike other ranked sets, this ones speed is quite fast (300bpm) and causes it to be extremely hard and challenging for higher-skilled player. However, it is not the only reason why I nominate this set: The set itself implies the mapper's experience of mapping taiko maps. From Kantan to the hardest difficulty(Angel), it is the best choice to focus on the map's beat as the leading structure because of intensive rhythm on this song. The mapper also followed the main melody to decorate the patterns in order to eliminate the beat's disadvantages which lacks of diversification. To sum up, this map does not only provide a challenge to players but also a decent model of mapping fast maps.
Our Stolen Theory - United (L.A.O.S Remix) by hikikochan (Nominator: Nwolf)
We make the choices, and united we decided that hikikochan's United deserves a spot in this month's spotlight! This fun map on a drum'n'bass song (which is "somewhat" famous in standard) is sure a nice place to spend 5 minutes on, having a high amount of quite consistent but also varying patterns, rhythms that fit the song very well and some short streams. Get used to what's coming now, cause you'll hopefully like this map as well!
Nekomata Master feat. Misawa Aki - chrono diver -fragment- by -Sh1n1- and Nardoxyribonucleic (Nominator: Arrival)
What a great approval! Collaboration between - Sh1n1 - and Nardoxyribonucleic, this map is really what we can call solid and enjoyable. Featuring a 1/4 patterning that emphasize on the vocal perfectly thanks to the 1/2 usage overall, it fits the song perfectly while being quite challenging because of the length and some 1/6 usage. The mapping styles of both mappers go together extremely well, giving birth to a coherent and well made map. In conclusion, a must-have chart that will for sure make you enjoy osu!taiko and Nekomata Master a bit more than before!
DJ TOTTO - chaplet by Nwolf (Nominator: Arrival)
Great 1/3 map by Nwolf this month! The complex rhythms used in this map make it quite challenging despite the fairly low Star Rating, combined with the usage of a lot of finishers at the end of streams that can be a bit troublesome to hit, but making great emphasis on the powerful parts of this song. If you want a good map to train your 1/3 abilities, then this mapset is made for you!
Cardboard Box - The Limit Does Not Exist by Grimbow (Nominator: magnomizer)
This is truly a noteworthy addition because it is the first time in ages since a map has provided a genuine challenge for even high level players (alongside Hold Angel). Hopefully this marks the start of a new paradigm of "difficult maps" becoming ranked. Regarding the actual mapset itself, it has good spread, helped in part by the excellent guest difficulties mapped by Nwolf and Dainesl. However, what truly stands out is the challenging [Limit Break] difficulty, mapped by Grimbow himself. With an SR of 7.54*, it has great execution of flow when it comes to placement of long deathstreams. In spite of the repetitive nature of the song, the patterns are varied enough to keep the map interesting and enjoyable, without sounding out of place at all.
osu!catch (3)
Halozy - Don't let you down by - Magic Girl - and JBHyperion (Nominator: Sorcerer)
It may have taken a while to get this to ranked status but - Magic Girl - and JBHyperion were determined not to let us down. Making an appearance together for their second Spotlight in a row 'Don't let you down' is a wonderfully crafted lowish bpm overdose that’s shows us these two really have something magic when they collaborate. For those who prefer a lower density compared to your typical overdose this should not disappoint, though do watch out for some cheeky streams. As a couple of extra bonuses it comes with a cute custom skin and let's be serious for a moment, who doesn't like Halozy?
Sakamoto Maaya - Okaerinasai (tomatomerde Remix) by Ascendance (Nominator: RoseusJaeger)
Okaerinasai certainly is a pleasant map for those who enjoy aesthetic mapping. This map is wonderfully paced and reflects the subtle nuances of the song all through-out, especially towards the end in reflecting the repeated vocal. Thank you to Ascendance for creating yet another lovely map.
Go Ichinose - Mizuumi by Sinnoh (Nominator: Chara)
Sinnoh here gives us a small set, not going for difficulty, but still being one of the quality osu!catch beatmaps of the month. The map finds ways to make the repetitive rhythm feel less repetitive, and that is one of the main good points of it. Together with fun patterns and execution, make this map one of the Spotlight maps. Oh, and by the way, it's a word meaning lake.
osu!mania (5)
takamatt feat. GUMI - TOKIO FUNKA by -Kamikaze- (Nominator: juankristal)
It has been a looong journey Kamikaze, right? This map has been around for like 3 years and it has finally been ranked! And thank god it happened. Featured in the MWC 7K of 2016 as the tiebreaker this mapset comes back once again with the usual combo from Kami. That combo I like to call it EVERYTHING. A decent amount of different snaps are used here in combination with streams with harsh accentuation and of course, LNs and SVs to add on top of it. Not only that, even as a player who plays without hitsounds I can tell the hitsounding here is GODLIKE tier and I absolutely love it. Totally deserved #1 spot of the month after such a long time fighting. Congratulations Kami!
sakuraburst - skyshifter vip by Evening (Nominator: juankristal)
I have to admit that this mapset isnt something that I particularilly love but jesus that it is unique. At first, I thought this map was not really that great but after putting my time into the editor, trying to learn the Slider Velocities and pretty much just playing the map a bunch of times I realized how carefully is this map executed. A map that looks really innocent pattern-wise but add all this crazy Evening-tier SVs and you have a really complex in both timing and reading skillsets. I swear to god the day I hit the jumptrill patterns correctly I will be super happy, but for now, I will just keep trying, as this map replayability is real good too. You will feel lost, but trust me, this map is amazing.
Gabba Front Berlin - Lacrima Mosa Est by Janko (Nominator: Feerum)
A song we doesn't see often ranked in osu!mania and Janko managed to map it in a very interesting and challenging way. The "Landung" difficulty (what means "landing" on German, by the way) is extremely stamina draining. A lot of jack pattern and jump jack pattern are waiting all over the difficulty and especially the second part of the chorus get's even more intense with longer jackhammer. The last third adds additionally to the jumpjacks some longnotes which require together with the pretty high HP/OD rate very accurate and does not allow a lot of mistakes, especially on 240 BPM! Together with some pretty cool visual Slider Velocity changes a challenge for every player and a well deserved place in the Spotlights.
The Prince Of Sinewaves - Ori and The Blind Forest (POS remix) by ArcherLove (Nominator: Jinjin)
Who said there couldn't be a challenging Normal / Hard difficulty mapset? ArcherLove is well known for long note oriented beatmaps and this is no exception. From this seemingly calm song, ArcherLove has managed to add some patterns that are extremely tricky to nail down perfectly. Furthermore, LordRaika's guest difficulty presents a completely different style of LN patterning in a way that contrasts ArcherLove's mapping and these three difficulties combine to make for some interesting experience not seen often in ranked maps.
Nekomata Master - Sennen no Kotowari by Critical_Star (Nominator: Jinjin)
If we have some unique and challenging maps in one spectrum, we have enjoyable, relatively easy maps in the other! Sennen no Kotowari offers difficulties ranging from Easy to Expert which caters to all 7K players alike. The patterns are relatively simple and fits the song nicely, with a pleasant balance between regular notes and long notes. To some of the higher skilled mania players out there, the GRAVITY difficulty gives tests players on entirely different skill sets with DoubleTime, so have a go at it!
The March 2017 spotlights will end on the 15th May 2017.
Past Spotlights results
Congratulations to the winners of the January/February 2017 Spotlights. They receive two month of supporter status for their efforts!
