GET TO KNOW ME MEME: FAVORITE SHOWS ↳ Teen Wolf (2011-2017)
"I'm going to tell you a story, maybe it will sound familiar. There was this kid, 16, alone, and running for his life. He couldn't see them, but he could hear them getting closer. They had guns, crossbows. They were hunting him. It started on the night of the full moon. Something came at him. Something bit him, and it changed his life. It changed everything."
#i often think about how well this show would've done if it was on streaming#it would've had a better budget for sets and cgi#tbh i think the writing sucked sometimes because the writers had a shitty budget and had to reuse sets#and also they had to include those god awful mtv ads lol#but yeah i think about it a lot :(#it was still a very good show for an mtv show in 2011#miss it so much!#and the movie was horrible that doesnt count okay#derek is ALIVE in my head#teen wolf#mine*#gifs*#gtkm#teenwolfedit#twedit#teenwolfgif

Animation idea
I think that we, as an Internet community who loves nostalgic properties but hates being bombarded by every shitty remake Hollywood has brought back from the Pet Cemetery -- INCLUDING "Pet Sematary" -- are overdue for a Renaissance of Beast Fables.
Like, reimagining stories is part of storytelling culture, whether it's unintentional (word of mouth misses some details) or absolutely intentional (completely involved AUs with whole new rule sets and worldbuilding and such). Reimaginings can be a lot of fun, and give a lot more breathing room to people who actually wanna be creative instead of carrying out the same old-same old that executives are So Convinced are what the masses want.
My proposal? Pull a Lion King on 'em.
The Lion King wasn't a 1:1 adaptation of Hamlet for obvious kid-friendly reasons (would've been a bit of a downer for everyone to end up like their Shakespearean counterparts), but at its root, at its conception, it's a twist on Hamlet. And that's completely okay that the final product doesn't exactly match the initial inspiration, because it shows that the production team was allowed to think and use their imaginations during the creative process.
Didn't anyone else grow up with those reimagined/fractured fairytales in elementary school? We had a book where Cinderella was a sasquatch, it was fucking awesome

All the beloved stories, both new and old, can get the Lion King treatment. They don't even have to be animals every time, they can be robots or aliens or any direction one's muse pulls them in.
And for the love of corn, some of them can be animated outside of 3D CGI. It can be 2D, it can be stop-motion or claymation, it can be fucking puppets(or even Muppets!). Please.
Please.
There is so much more to this world than making the next Frozen. Shake yourself free of the tractor beam of What Will Make The Most Money, go forth and write the stories you want to see in the world -- even if you retooled an older story to fit a world of furries, it'd be doing a LOT more than anyone distributing huge-budget franchises would dare to do right now.
If I have to see one more Elsa clone on my phone app game ad du jour, I might just scream

I hear you about Ezra and agree that it's a lot more serious then the, unfortunately at this point, usual situation of an actor getting accused of sexual assault or abuse. However the situation with The Flash movie is incredibly complicated.
With Batgirl they could scrap the already shoot movie for tax reasons mostly because it was a straight to streaming movie. If Batgirl had been a theatrical release they couldn't have done that because of contracts. Because those people would've had it in their contracts that WB must release the film and in theaters only. But, well streaming is still something of a no man's land where the rules aren't set. Note all the ways Netflix is still allowed to screw over their creatives.
With The Flash, by the time the Hawaii incidents happend the movie had already been in post-production for several months at that point. The movie reportedly has a budget of 200 mil with insiders claiming that number is closer to 300 mil. And this is before any alterations or reshoots.
Now you brought up All the Money in the World but Kevin Spacey had what, 10 minutes of screen time in that? Ezra's not only the main character of The Flash but also playing at least 2 different characters. They're definitely in most of the footage they have. So if WB would recast and replace Ezra, they would basically need to reshoot the whole thing. And even if they were to recast and cgi in another actor, that would still be incredibly expensive. So there is no way to go about it without WB sinking a lot more money into into this movie on top of the minimum 100, 150 mil they would spend to market it.
Sure they could in theory scrap the movie but again there's that question of the contracts that I'm sure plays a hand in this. Then there's the fact that they are holding onto and are still pushing this movie which to me confirms it's too important to the future of the DCEU going forward because they're gonna use it to soft reboot the franchise (and to your point WB have issued a statement a few months ago that they don't plan on working with Ezra anymore and are cutting ties with them). If that were not the case I could maybe see them taking a hit on this...however, again then there's the financal side of this. Both WB and Discovery are in debt. They are going through a merger and have shareholders to please. I'm not so sure they can take a big hit right now.
What I am sure is that they crunched the numbers on The Flash just like they did with Batgirl, for which they had the option to put more money in and made it a theater release but decided against because a tax write off allowed them to make money of it without spending anymore on it.
If they release The Flash as is, and I would imagine they're gonna do some small reshoots/editing to replace Ezra at the end even if they don't recast immediately, they could still potentialy make hundreds of millions of it. Look at The Secrets of Dumbledore, that also had a lot of controversy around it, including Ezra, and yet it still made 400 mil and that movie was terrible. If The Flash is any better it could maybe break even at the box office.
So look this isn't me defending WB or god forbid Ezra, I'm just looking at it from WB's side and a business perspective and explaining why they're still going release the movie, despite it seeming like a bad idea.
I’m pretty cynical and I know that they aren’t going to do anything about this, but I’m going to stand by “there is zero justification for uplifting and protecting a likely pedophile who seems to particularly be targeting indigenous people” on this one. They have been throwing money on this franchise continuously already.
This movie SHOULD NOT break even. If you pay for this movie, you are encouraging this behavior from the studio and from Ezra. I have zero sympathy for their business situation; not just because, well, that’s business. But because again—Ezra has been known to be violent FOR SURE, not by rumor but through on camera incidents, since 2020. They have had time to course correct. They won’t, but I’m not super interested in looking at it from their business perspective. They made their bed. They had time to fix this. They did not.

after finishing the 3rd movie i wish it kind of came out later than it’s intended original movie release because i bet if it came out in theaters more people would talk about this movie :( it did get some talk when the trailers first hit and it was probably mostly the memes around keanu reeves but man i wish more people saw this movie i would say this is the least talked about sb movie in the trilogy so far
one complaint i really would say about the movie is the kamp koral stuff kind of felt forced? while it’s very cute and i acknowledge this movie is probably set in an alternate universe considering it ended with everyone getting snails and retconning how spongebob met others and their ages, kamp koral itself felt like it could be removed and only a few things would need tweaking around, but it isn’t terrible though or bad just felt like a force thing just to get the spin off started anyways
i love the animation so much! wish more people talked about it like at first i was hesitant of hearing it was going to be 3d i mainly worried about it either trying way to hard to have very detailed textures where you can see all of spongebob’s pores or just looking really flat and not interesting and while i still prefer spongebob to be in 2d the cgi they use was actually really great and managed to capture the spirit of spongebob, everything was nicely stylized and the movements didn’t feel inflated which i think a lot of cgi suffers from and it felt like a 3d cartoon with smear frames and exaggerated faces and those moments where it does seem like a lower frame count it doesn’t feel cheap and more like trying to tastefully capture limited hand drawn tv animation, the animation crew did a great job considering they were on a lower budget than other bigger studios like disney with their 100 million budgets compared to the movie’s 60 mil, i hope when the 4th movie is out they go with the same style and studio if they go with the cg route again (most likely), the animation itself i feel like is also pretty underrated considering talks now these days with animation studios going more stylized and cartoony than trying to be realistic i feel like the spongebob movie here should be talked about more when discussing stylized cg animation
omg so sorry i went off, i just have so many thoughts in the movie and i loved it! thanks for hearing me!
Yeah I wish it did too. The movie was so much fun to see in theatres! I should know because I saw it in theatres because there was a brief period where they played it in theatres in Canada. Let me tell you, it was STUNNING on the big screen. I think the movie wouldn't have had such a bad rap if it did come out in theatres (its the weakest of the 3 but idk the whole movie going experience enhances your feelings about a movie, or maybe that's just me)
But I get why they gave it a digital release. The movie was delayed so many times. I've been anticipating the 3rd spongebob movie since they announced it back in 2016. They said February of 2019, then spring of 2019, then summer of 2019. Then the spring of 2020. Then the pandemic hit.
They moved the release date how many times???? They couldn't hold it off any longer and honestly there isn't an end in sight for this pandemic anyways. Might as well drop it when people are at home and safe.
I agree that the kamp koral stuff was forced. That's what me and my friend thought when we went to see it. Some people thought it was really cute. I didn't care for it much. But back then I was more super iffy about if it disrespected Hillenburg or not. I was surprised how short the kamp koral stuff was. I feel like if you cut those scenes out then it wouldn't have changed the movie much.
I kinda wished they replaced the kamp koral scenes with actual reanimated scenes from the original show. I still feel like that would've been better. Too bad.
I know the movie suffered from a lot of corporate meddling hence why it feels like a weird mashup of different stuff and why the kamp koral bit feels so forced. Tbh the actual kamp koral mini series could've happened without the movie. As far as we do know. It doesn't necessarily change how Spongebob meets Gary.
By this weird spaghetti plot line. Spongebob met Gary at kamp koral but didn't adopt him. He was friendly to Gary but it wasn't years later where he was put in thr pet shop for spongebob to adopt. In the kamp koral show, Gary is a baby living in a snail colony that the other camp counselors can't stand. I'm assuming he probably got swept up by animal control and put in a pet shop later on. It's just a bunch of uncessary details but eh I don't care much about it now. They couldn't elaborate on all that in the movie so it just felt weird.
The animation for the movie was at least gorgeous. And from what I know, the cgi in the movie was a test to see how cgi would work for kamp koral. Hillenburg was hesitant about cgi but ended up liking how the movie looked. From what I know, kamp koral was meant to be traditionally animated. But tv animation is VERY different from movie animation. And comparing the movie to the tv show, the tv show doesn't look that good and is loaded with animation errors too😭
Its no surprised the movie achieved Hillenburg's expectations tho.
I LOVE 2D animation and I admit I was very hesitant about cgi. Its not bad but every movie wants to be cgi nowadays. And for spongebob, he's a difficult character to translate into cgi to begin with. Kudos to the crew for making it work, and not just work, but look better than a lot of the cg animated movies of today.
I know the 4th movie is a sandy movie. I wonder how the cgi will work? I think Sandy was the one who didn't look very good in sponge on the run. She looked kinda creepy. Her design in sponge out of water where she was cgi looked so much better. I hope they fix this issue before her movie comes out. She deserves to have a stunning movie look ya kno? Though some of the crew members are every protective of sandy so I can imagine they'll definitely fix it.
I don't mind your talk! It was a fun read and you made a lot of good points. The internet trashed sponge on the run so hard mostly because of misinformation. Its nice to see it gets some love. I reaaaally wish the animation was more noted for. It looked gorgeous but everyone was too focused on hating it to notice :(

Hey PS! Love the ideas for the askbox and just wanted to pitch in. While IPK was already shot so beautifully I love the thought of having even better cinematography with newer HD cameras, sets and better hair/makeup styling while continuing without the overuse of CGI. So, I don't watch ITV so wouldn't have any idea on what subplots/tracks are on the forefront these days so can't say how different the storyline would play out but I personally would've loved like watching an actual intense crime/
murder/mystery thriller subplot, the kidnapping track could've potentially been one but they decided to go with comedy instead. And some other random things I could see happening 1) Khushi would be the one that is more active on social media, with Aarav helping his mom out with the technology (OMG imagine they have a tiktok together, her nautanki definitely has the potential to go viral for sure, who needs Mrs India when you can be tiktok famous lmao) 2) With lockdown, won't need the excuse of
"rebuilding Arnav's office" for him to work from home and maybe we even get to see Aman in the Zoom meetings 3) With airfares and traveling being more affordable cause of the pandemic maybe we could've actually had a destination shoot for the honeymoon since it would be within budget lol. Well, I don't know if this is the kind of stuff that was expected of this askbox, hopefully I didn't miss the mark completely. This was so much fun! Thanks for this and for everything else you do on this blog!
Hello @noor1025!
I’d like to see Aman on zoom hahaha. And wow, airfares and travelling are cheaper where you are because of the pandemic?!
Thank you very muchly for submitting, these are all super interesting :)
