In rewatching MyGO I noticed that in the first episode the girls in Anon’s class ask her what they called her at her previous school. The show then does a flashback to her middle school where she was the student council president and got perfect scores and everyone called her Chihaya…

But when it returns to the scene Anon’s smile fades and she seems kind of uncomfortable and says to call her “Anon.” It’s a strange reaction considering her memory should’ve been nothing but positive (especially considering her personality).

If you think about it though, the first thing Anon would think of when asked that question would probably be when she was studying abroad in England and everyone called her “Ann.” So her decision to have them call her Anon instead of Chihaya is likely influenced by how she spent months without anyone saying her name right. I think that the flashback they show us in episode 1 and the memory Anon thinks of when she’s asked the question are actually different. It would completely change how Anon’s character is established and feel out of place to have the England memory right in episode 1, so substituting it with a cherry-picked memory of her middle school classmates calling her amazing is perfect for building her up as a character who really cares about how other people think of her and wants to be popular. Her desire to project a fake self to look better to others extends even to the audience of the show itself.

Fun fact! Tomori’s writing is half-autobiographical. The main screenwriter for the anime (Ayana) said while developing her character, she was inspired by her own betrayal of relationships and loss of faith in people.

This is my favorite fact of MyGo because it explains a lot about how human Tomori feels. I love her because of how she cares so much for others, despite having hope ripped away over and over. She cares anyway.

The little signs of love she gives while being generally reserved and quiet, she just feels really realistic.. I’m sure the writer put a lot of herself in the character, I admire that

there is so much that i still don’t get about mygo that i hope is explored in the avemuji anime and honestly i might log on bandori for the first time in 3 years just to get the full picture

anon- *what* happened with her middle school classmates and her classmates in england exactly for her to agonize over it so often. neither of them call her by her real name, and she was particularly worried about not being needed in mygo, not being the frontwoman, not having a clear image, does she just not feel included and wanted when being herself? is she “lost” on her image and individuality?

soyo- lowkey what is her deal like as a whole. she was obsessed with getting crychic back together and seems to be super stuck in the past, also seems to be kind of a people pleaser at school i think she mentioned that later in the show which is stemming from her mommy issues, i think? does she have a similar relationship with crychic as tomori where they were the first people to really accept her for who she is?

taki- why is she so in love with tomori. she said early into the show that tomori’s music taught her it was ok to want to live or something but honest to god i need some backstory on how she was like before crychic because she can’t possibly be that down bad for nothing

tomori and surprisingly enough rana i found easier to get, but these 3 are trippy anyone wanna explain their lore to me

WHO WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT MYGO

I went into the anime expecting to like it but not love it and then tomori clobbered me over the head and now i would do anything for her. um i don’t think i’ve seen autism rep this good in ages? i COMPLETELY saw myself in her. i haven’t felt this represented since robin buckley stranger things :)

i know a lot of people (reasonably) like taki/tomori and i’ve made jokes about them being in love too! BUT i almost think it’s more impactful as entirely platonic. taki’s feelings for tomori are strong, but they don’t really read as romance to me. protection, and affection, and the desire to be with her, but that can all be platonic, can’t it?

also it leaves room for tomori to make out with anon sloppy style in front of the penguin display
