Stress Relief
Butler!SigmaxReader
Plot: You notice the head butler of the estate youâve been invited to has had a rough night and offer to help him relieve his stress.
Tags: Age Difference. Size Difference. Master/servant dynamics. Oral. Fingering. Penetration. Reader is Gender Neutral but is referred to as Sir as an honorific because Idk, I didnât feel like thinking too hard about it.
A/N: Prompt provided by the Sigma Server and voted on by my lovely followers on Twitter, head over there yourself to see art and vote in the next poll if youâd like! Twitter.
Xx
Company get togethers are always sort of awkward, but when its hosted at the founderâs estate it just adds a whole new layer of unpleasantness. Although you were technically nothing more than a file pusher at the lower levels of the company you won a lottery draw to join with the bosses and executives to said founderâs estate and you dreaded the idea the moment your name was announced.
You did not belong around those sorts of people, rich assholes that just had a knack for ordering people around or the types of people willing to kiss up enough to join them, and you felt completely isolated as you stood in the nicest thing you owned alone at the back of a large party room filled to the brim with fancy business types all wearing suits that probably costs more than your entire life savings.
You were sure no one would realize you left if you just walked out right now, no one except maybe your boss but they were off rubbing shoulders with their bossâs boss so maybe not, but you stayed anyway. One because free food was free food, and two because well⌠you hated to admit it, but the owner sure had some fine looking help.
Especially the head butler. An older man, insanely tall and broad, with sharp but still soft features and gorgeous grey-periwinkle eyes that dazzled as if filled with stars. It was embarrassing how quickly you became smitten from simply laying eyes on him as he greeted everyone as they came in through the door, it was more embarrassing how quickly filthy thoughts entered your brain when he held your hand in his gloved ones in a polite handshake.
You always had a thing for older or bigger men, and this guy was the complete package. God, you wanted to run your hands through his cute greying hair and hold onto his shoulders for dear life and kiss his pointed nose but alas, you did not have that sort of confidence. So you contented yourself with simply staying and taking your fill of him from afar for tonight.
Not very afar though, he was good at his job and came by to ask if things were alright quiet often, perhaps seeing you alone as a sign of a problem. You usually just answered him with a quick âIâm fine, thank you.â when he asked, and a simple âNo, thank you.â when he offered you a glass of wine. You blushed hard every time he came around with something new and he spoke to you in his rich, sweet voice, and every time you made sure to thank him for his offers, especially as you noticed more and more people simply waving him off without so much as a glance.
You felt bad for him as the night slowly winded on and you noticed he started to look a little frustrated as he had to deal with increasingly rude guests. Disrespecting him, not answering him, and finally actually shouting at him, he took everything in stride but that last one really got to him, you could tell, as he apologized, turned on his heal, and walked out of the room. No one paid him any mind except the asshole who yelled at him who simply looked pleased at the abuse he inflicted before turning back to his group and chatting on like heâd done nothing wrong.
It boiled your blood but you werenât in a position to stand up for the poor butler either, after all everyone here was technically your boss too. But you wanted to help the guy, he had been so thoughtful of you tonight, even if it was his job, so quickly you followed after him.
It took a bit to find him again, his stride so much bigger and faster than yours but when you did find him he was pacing around and looking as frustrated as ever. He didnât seem to notice you, or any of the other help that shuffled past him quickly taking things to and from the party. He looked a bit disheveled and his hand combed through his hair as the other was gripping repeatedly into a fist. He was a lot more angry than you thought.
You stood a distance away from him, and coughed to get his attention, âSir?â You said and he stopped in his angry pacing to look back at you, âIâm sorry for what happened back there, you didnât deserve to get yelled at.â You said hesitantly.
He looked at you for a moment, his eyes betraying his confusion even as his face stayed placidly angry. He blinked, sighed and composed himself as best he could, smoothing his hair back with one of his gloved hands.
âThank you, I appreciate your concern.â He half smiled at you, the tire now coming out in his features. âBut I advise you to return to the party, this area is restricted to staff only.â He said calmly, shifting easily back into his service voice.
You blushed and chuckled awkwardly looking around you realized you had no idea where you were, âOh⌠um, alright.â Was that it? A simple thank you? Was he alright? You didnât want to leave him stewing in negative emotion but at the same time you didnât want to seem like you were pushing boundaries on this complete stranger.
âSo itâs a left and then right, right?â You ask pointing behind you and he looked in that direction and back at you.
He sighed again and straightened himself out, âIâll escort you back.â He said and you instantly felt bad, had you just interrupted what little break he wanted to take?
âNo, itâs fine, thank you!â You say quickly, stepping back from him but he closes the distance between you instantly and takes your hand, wrapping your arm around his and leading you briskly back in the direction you came.
âNo, no, I donât want you getting lost, it wouldnât be the first time a guest has and the onus is on me if you do anyhow.â He sounded a bit annoyed and it stung your heart, you didnât want him to be angry with you, you just wanted to apologize and make him feel better.
âIâm serious about being sorry for what happened.â You say as you try to keep up with his gate, âYou did a really good job tonight, you really didnât deserve that yelling, I just wanted to know if youâre alright.â You spoke fast, mind slightly distracted with not tripping over your feet and falling flat on your face.
He stopped and you jolted a bit by the sudden lack of momentum, the party could be heard slightly muffled through the thick walls, perhaps only just right outside were it was being hosted. He looked down at you, his expression amused, tired, but amused.
âIâve done this job for many, many years, that wasnât anything I canât handle on my own.â He says assuredly with a soft squeeze to your hand, though that doesnât really make you any happier.
âAt least take a break, please?â You ask up at him, for the first time in your life actually pouting, âYou looked awfully stressed back there, I can show you a few ways to relax if you want.â You said with a touch to his chest.
He blinked at you as all expressions dropped from his face, and you looked at him confused for a moment before blushing hard with the realization about how that sounded. He seemed frozen, like he was unsure about what you said, and in truth you were unsure too.
âI-I know some breathing exercises.â You correct quickly, withdrawing your hand slightly. You saw his expression change slightly into.. Disappointment? Wait a second, he couldnât have actually wantedâŚ
âBut there are other things too⌠if you want⌠I wouldnât mind.â You added quickly after that, splaying your hand on his chest again, feeling his heartbeat under the thick layers of clothing.
You watched the cogs turn in his head and flush a little darker as his eyes quickly flick over you. He looks up at the entrance to the party and back at you and then he lets out a slightly shaky breath. Without a word he holds you a little tighter to him and leads you to another door in the hallway.
When he opens it he quickly ushers you inside before shutting the door and locking it behind him. You feel softness around you and are kind of freaked out before he turned on the light to reveal itâs just the coat room. Youâre momentarily distracted from your handsome partner by the idea of being surrounded by so much money, but your attention is drawn back as he pulls you into him and lifts you so that he can latch onto your lips.
You moan into the kiss as he flexes his strength, holding you tightly against him with one hand firmly on your ass as the other hand threads itâs fingers in your hair. Heâs frustrated and rough, devouring your moans as you wrap your arms around his shoulders and cling to him desperately.
Your make out session did not last long, or did it? It was hard to tell, time felt so fake as you felt his tongue explore your mouth, but soon enough he pulled away, chuckling at your already disheveled appearance and wiping away the little saliva that followed him.
âDid that please you sir?â He asked cheekily and you felt a weird sort of feeling roll through you at the title.
âY-yes.â You squeaked out and he chuckled giving your ass a squeeze before letting you down.
âI believe you wanted to show me how to relax, sir?â He said, the honorific dripping with pointed lust, and you gulped.
âI.. um.. I think youâre too tall⌠standing.â You stutter out, hands resting on his thighs and seeing easily if you were to get down on your knees you wouldnât actually be able to reach him.
âWhat would you like me to do, sir?â That word was making your head swim, even if it was a respectful title it sounded more like a pet name in his tone.
âSit?â You say unsure and he lowers himself to the floor instantly, keeping his legs wide to allow you room.
âIs this alright?â He asks as you settle between his legs and start to run your hands along his thick legs.
You nod, âPerfect.â You say a little breathlessly, and he chuckles, watching with amusement as your small hands feel up his calves and thighs.
The fabric of his uniform felt expensive too, soft and smooth and very breathable. He was warm to the touch and so very muscular. You wondered just what this uniform was hiding, but at the same time the sight of him sitting with his legs spread before you while still wearing such an outfit was much too delicious.
You ran your hands up his thighs, feeling them quiver just the slightest as your small hands roamed over them, and slowly felt up to his already hardening bulge. He felt hot to the touch, even through his pants as you cupped him, moving the fabric over him as you gave a few light tugs at him. He moaned softly and bit his lip, his face red and his eyes dilated in lust. As you felt him up you leaned down and kissed him over his pants, earning a satisfied sigh as a white gloved hands settled on your head, petting it softly.
You unzipped him enough to free him and you gasped when you pulled him out. He chuckled darkly at your expression and you felt your face heat up even more.
âIs it to your liking, sir?â He said smugly and your face reddened even more.
You could only nod, wide eyes and open mouth as you held is beautifully thick and long cock in your hands. It was heavy and hot and just so perfect with a thick vein running along the bottom that you thumbed as you stroked him experimentally. His hand flexed on your head a little but he made no move to rush you, settling back more as he watched your hand pump him slowly, taking him all in with your eyes.
You locked eyes with him as you lowered your head and licked a long stripe from his base to his tip, smiling when it pulled a delicious groan from him that hit you straight in your loins. You liked his head, swirling your tongue around it and lightly sucking on it as you jacked him, delighted to feel his hand grip into your hair.
âSir.â He whined as you took him deeper into your mouth.
You knew no matter how much you wanted to take all of him you simply did not have enough time or luxury to adjust to him so you compensated for the extra inches with your hand as you took him as far as you could, moaning around him as he twitched in your throat. He smoothed your hair out of your face with his extra hand and before you could do anything both hands gripped your hair and forced your head up and off of him before slamming you back down onto his shaft.
You let him, drooling around him and lazily looking up at him, tears falling from your face as your hands abandoned their stroking to simply grip onto his pants. He was rough and obviously trying to just chase his own release regardless of your comfort though you noted he didnât force you down any further than your limit. He bucked his hips into your mouth and delighted in the awful sounds that came from him fucking brutally into your rawing throat.
âYouâre a natural, sir.â He bit out, the sir adding a strange and arousing layer to the  degradation. He was mocking you and it was so fucking good.
He pulled your head off of him and pulled you to him, smiling at the way your eyes rolled and locked on him, unfocused and dilated to hell, gasping for air through your rubbed raw lips. He kissed you, tender in comparison for his rough treatment.
You straddled his hips, locking him between you as he continued your make out session from before, only this time with a lot more biting and mumbling as his hands quickly grabbed and pulled you out of your clothes, stripping you completely while he still sat fully clothed.
As he tossed your shirt deeper into the closet he pulled back to admire you, eyes taking your in as his soft gloves caressed all your sensitive areas lovingly.
âMooi.â the word drifted out of his lips breathlessly and although you didnât know what he said it made you blush all the more harder.
You wanted to cover up, feeling exposed under his eyes and the fact he was still clothed but he simply did not let you, lightly swatting your hands away every time you tried. His hands smoothed over your sides and down to your hips where they rested and guided you to grind onto him a little. You grabbed onto his shoulders and mewled as you felt his hard shaft under you.
He thrusts lightly up into you as he watched you glide along him, precum dripping along himself and helping you slide smoothly even more. You whimpered when he lifted you a little high and you felt his tip ever so slightly catch into you before gliding back over you. He kissed your shoulder and whispered into your ear,
âIs this what you want, sir?â He tilted his hips and you felt him push up just a little into you and you gasped loudly, gripping on his shoulders so tightly your knuckles went white.
âY-yes.â You huff out as you feel him glide over you again.
He chuckled darkly and leaned you back onto the floor so that he loomed over you. He smiled down at you, looking awfully menacing and sexy, all done up and proper still save for his slightly crooked bow tie and ruffled hair. He braced himself with one arm beside your head and with his other hand he brought it up to his mouth and removed it in one smooth motion. He spit the glove away to the side to be lost with your own clothing and delicately began to caress you again, no barrier between you and his skin now.
You writhed a little under him as he felt you up, running his fingers over your neck and shoulders and down the middle of your chest and over your stomach, teasingly stopping just at your waistline and skipping straight to your thighs that he pet lightly.
âPlease.â You sighed raising your hips as his hand traveled higher up your inner thigh, âPlease.â you pant as his hand lightly ghosts over were you want him to touch, âPlease.â you moan when he finally does.
He leans in to capture your lips as you pull him close when his fingers finally enter you, wasting no time in stretching you out. It was a little painful but you didnât care as you slowly adjusted, moving your hips along with his fingering, loving how deeply they hit inside you. His chest rumbled with moans as fingered your tight entrance and you squeezed down on him, the need to shove his cock into you growing by the second.
When he felt you prepped enough he took his fingers from you and grabbed onto himself, stroking himself a few times as he lined up with you. He gave you a look, making sure you were ready and with a nod he began to push into you. His other hand had to clamp down on your mouth as you let out a long, strained and loud whine as you felt him stretch you. You couldnât stop it, the stretch just too much. Not bad, not bad at all, but just.. So much. You went ridgid at just his tip and he had to coo you into relaxing with kisses and soft words.
As he slowly worked inch by inch into you, you felt your orgasm rapidly approaching, the mixture of the feeling of being so full and his sweet attention being a dangerous concoction, and before he could even get halfway in you jolted with a sudden orgasm. He stopped instantly and a desperate, muffled cry was pulled from his throat as he felt you squeeze around him.
âAre you alright?â He asked with a huff, touching your face and waiting for you to snap back to reality.
âY-yes, fuck, keep going.â You asked leaning into his touch and moving your hips to encourage him, helping him slip into you even more.
He groans and continues to push forward, bottoming out with a full body shiver and holding your hips tightly with his hand to keep you from squirming, trying to calm himself down long enough to actually start moving. You meanwhile grabbed and scratched and pulled on whatever you could reach, pulling him closer to kiss his face and feel around under his suit jacket. You felt so hot and overwhelmed in the best way, stretched wider than you ever had and completely addicted to the feeling already.
You were sure youâd be ruined for any other man after this.
When he started to move you nearly came again, the long, agonizing drag out forcing you to feel every little detail of him. You mewled and muffled yourself in his shoulder, biting down on the fabric there as he snapped his hips into yours harshly. He set an agonizing pace, slow out and hard in, making you lose your mind as you were pushed quickly toward another peak.
âFuckâ He barked as he felt you cum again but this time he did not stop, continuing to thrust into you as you quivered around you, dragging it out.
His hips picked up as he began to slide into you easier and easier as you relaxed and adjusted to him and soon your whole body was wrapped around him in an attempt to hold onto him as he pounded relentlessly into you. He kept his hand firmly on your mouth as every thrust pushed a moan out of you and his head was bowed harshly into your neck, his breath hot and quick on your skin as he huffed with every brutal thrust.
You heard mumbling from him but you couldnât tell if it was English or Dutch, mind lost in the feeling of his thick cock.
When he came he bit down hard on his arm he was using to brace himself as he emptied a thick load into you with a full body shiver, continuing to fuck into you until it finally became too much and he stopped, panting and whining quietly.
âThank you.â He says softly, breathlessly, and it hits you how tired and relieved he sounded, how much more⌠lively his voice sounded like this.
âYouâre very welcome.â You say so softly, nuzzling into him with a wide and tired smile, warmth radiating through you.
ââ
After you had gotten redressed and presentable he helped you out and called a private driver to take you home, seeing that you had no reason to stay any longer.
âI do hope you enjoyed your short visit.â He said as helped you into the back of a very nice car.
âYes, very much.â You say as you settle onto the nice leather seats.
Before he could shut the door you stopped him smiled, âIf you ever need to relieve some stress again Iâm always free.â You flirted.
He smiled, a beautiful genuine smile and nodded, âIâll be sure to remember that on your next visit, sir.â He said with a wink and with that he closed the door.
Damn, guess you need to get a promotion asap.

SnK Chapter 124 Poll Results
The chapter 124 poll closed with 2,065 responses. Thank you to everyone who participated!
This monthâs poll team: @erensjaegerbombs @momtaku, _Puppet_ , @shifter-lines and @ladymoe6â
 RATE THE CHAPTER 1,926 Responses
Fours and fives still dominate but thereâs no denying that this chapter lacked the hype weâve seen recently. âThawâ had the lowest number of 5âs this year, performing similarly to the Zeke-centric flashback chapter in 114, âSole Salvationâ. (Thereâs a pun to made here about us âwarming up to Thawâ but sadly I am not smart enough to make it.)
The Chapter of Necessary Filler & the Obligatory Cliffhanger
I love that Isayama isn't rushing everything and is actually focusing on little details and small interactions between characters. He really isn't glorifying an "apocalyptical scenario" just for the sake of destruction in itself or shock value.
This chapter felt like a nostalgia trip, but I wasn't in for the ride.
This chapter was a breath of fresh air ngl. These past chapters were mostly full of either a flashback, monologue or just having two characters talking in a realm where nothing happens and time is frozen, but, at last, the plot is moving foward in the real world too. Not only it contained long gone titan action, but also great character development/moments as well. I missed this.
The leaks didn't give this chapter justice
A weaker chapter overall, I hope all this buildup will be well spent in the next chapter.
I actually loved everything about this chapter, I can't believe Isayama finally gave me a reason to kind of like Gabi. I'm sure she'll do something to immediately change thatâŚ
Isayama-sensei is the best, each chapter is a 10/10 for me. I do agree that this chapter is not as great as as the last 5, but it's still great. This year is impossible to choose the Top 5 Best Chapters of SNK
It was good, but I was hoping for a crazier year closure.
WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT?
1,995 Responses
There were many great moments in this chapter, but Annieâs highly anticipated return to the active plot takes up the largest amount of votes! Other notable moments were: Shadis taking command, Armin realizing Annieâs crystal must have unhardened, the 104th discussing Eren, and Jeanâs salty reaction to Flochâs continued survival.
A N N I E is BAAAAAAACK!!!
as someone too invested in the gabi-nicolo-braus plot thread by i love sasha i am absolutely Fed with that excellent "get out of the forest" talk. thank u for the good food nicolo
It's great to see the other 104th members discuss about Eren's actions. At least we got a glimpse on what they think about Eren's plan.
For once I'm gonna forgive Isayama for putting off Levi and Hange. I FEEL BLESSED TO HAVE ANNIE BACK ON MY BIRTH MONTH!!! BEST PRESENT EVER
I like the parallels to Trost, especially the part with the thunder spears sort of mirroring the thing with the guns and the elevator from S1
WHO WAS THIS CHAPTERS MVP? 1,988 Responses
Despite the influx of negative commentary, 38.2% of respondents agree that Gabiâs persistence to save Falco and reconciliation with Kaya earned her the MVP title this month. The strongest contenders were Shadis and Jean.
Annie saved this chapter from the Gabi / Kaya focus
Connie- the underrated suffer boi
Gabi best girl!
I am proud of Jean for taking charge, he acted like a real commander.
Reiner Best character đđ
SHADIS IS THE MVP AND I LOVE HIM
WHICH CHARACTER WERE YOU MOST DISAPPOINTED WITH? 1,998 Responses
âNone of the aboveâ was a popular suggestion (25.2%) but Connie edged that choice out by a percentage point (26.3%) . At least you guys listen when the evening news says that stealing children is bad.
Silly of you to ask us which character we're most disappointed with. We're always disappointed with Floch in every panel he shows up in
it's good to have a connie development, but I was a little sad about his attitude
I'm not so much disappointed with Connie in this moment as I am with the direction his character arc has gone lately in general. I miss when he was fun instead of angry all the time.
I think everyone is acting super irrational. Eren is going to destroy the world but all the SC are "accepting" of it. I think deep down they are all horrified and in a completely insane mental state causing irrational decisions and thoughts such as Jean being okay with genocide.
I understand that Connie is desperate to find a comfort after all the ppl he lost, but I'm still extremely disappointed in him for wanting to murder a child. Not just Connie tho, the same goes for Jean and Armin. Armin didn't say "Let's not kill a freaking child" he just objected because he didn't want to provoke Reiner and Pieck.
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF REINERâS ROLE THIS CHAPTER? 1,889 Responses
Reiner takes a back seat this chapter, and just barely over half of the fandom believe he deserves that nap after all heâs been through. Â Another quarter, at 25.8% are wishing he could just die at this point, for better or worse.
"Enough already. Just sleep." - Reiner to Eren in 117
Can Reiner pick an opinion and stick with it for .2 seconds. he's like hardcore ready to kick ass and then immediately turns around and is ready to die again
Game over man
He's cute. End of the story.
I think it was bizarre that Gabi just let him fall asleep and left him in an enemy territory where he could be captured or eaten by a mindless titan
I understand him being tired an all, but sleeping in the middle of a warzone and at the start of the apocalypse???
Helos needs his rest and good dreams of Bert
I think it is set up for his future death : saving Falco by being eaten by Connie's mom (he was there with Connie in Ragako village)
Madlad goes to sleep instead of dying
Man literally too tired to die
There were certainly worse ways than "passed out from exhaustion" that he could've been written out of the chapter. At least we know his current status this way, unlike a certain duo...
He need some milk
Reiner votes for âCanât he just die already?â
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE EREN PARALLEL IN GABI AT THE MIRROR? 1,869 Responses
Gabiâs design is based on Eren, and sheâs had similarities and parallels to him in the past, what does the parallel in this chapter mean stacked on top of all of that? Â About 70% say itâs to further emphasize how similar she is to him at her core. Â 12.7% donât think it was an intentional parallel to that Eren scene, 7.7% say sheâs going to receive his titan, and a solid 1% wrote in the eloquent thesis of âFuck Gabi.â
A bit too on the nose
Both have the common factor of determination and the desire to fight to save someone else. "Fight, fight" = "Like I'd give up" In Eren's case, his scene in the mirror is portrayed in a darker, more aggressive environment, he must fight to save his loved ones, but for this goal he must destroy everything. On the other hand, Gabi shows a more heroic/pure attitude, the light is predominant, and his words refer to the desire to fight to save Falco without taking this violence path unlike Ere
Eren cant copyright this hairstyle
How dare she stand where he stood.
I didn't like any parallels that include Gabi. Not this one, and most certainly not the one with Sasha.
It definitely foreshadows something, but I don't think it's that she'll inherit his titan. I think she's going to be the one to end this madness and break the cycle. Unlike Eren, who fights for freedom both for himself and his loved ones, Gabi will fight for peace and equality: a different kind of freedom.
It symbolizes Gabi's character arc starting to go in the opposite direction of Eren, rather than showing them being similar.
It symbolizes Gabi's change in motivation to do anything to save her friends. Just as Eren's motivation in the mirror scene really marked the moment he turned genocidal to protect his friends.
DO YOU AGREE WITH JEANâS CONCLUSION THAT EREN IS DOING WHAT HEâS DOING TO PROTECT THOSE HE LOVES? 1,950 Responses
Jean believes heâs figured out why Erenâs doing what heâs doing, does the fandom agree? Â The large majority think thatâs at least a part of it, as 40.8% think itâs solely that goal in mind, and another 53.5% believe it stemmed from that desire but has evolved and become more complex. Â 3.3% of fans donât believe thatâs where his motivation stems from at all.
But if that's his goal it still doesn't explain chapter 112
EREN is doing it to protect his friends. YMIR wants vengeance and bloodshed.
I agree, because I really donât know what else could have been done. The Eldians were hated all over the world and Talk-No-Justu is a folly.
I don't know what to think. At first, Jean seems to be in denial (like most of the 104th), but perhaps it's his way of realizing things. No, Eren must love them a lot, there's absolutely no way that his genocide is unjustified. Right...? WaitâŚ
I think he's being pragmatic and analytical. Like a real leader. Something I expected from Armin. However Armin has strokes of genius during critical times so I'm expecting something.
In a breaking bad way, yes
Yes, although I believe Eren's old and complex relationship with the idea of freedom also plays a big part in this situation.
No, because he isn't doing anything about the mindless titans and treated his friends like trash. I didn't see any kind of concern while they were in danger. I think he's more eager to set his ideals into action.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WAS THE CORRECT RESPONSE TO WHAT TO DO WITH FALCO? 1,958 Responses
Another serumbowl type discussion arises, yay!!...? Â The vast majority, at a combined 81.4% donât want to feed Falco to anyone, and just want to wrap him up and not start any more conflict. Â 11.6% think he should be fed to a known titan such as Pixis, and only 4.3% side with Connieâs reaction of feeding him to his own Mama Springer.
Falco is too important. He and Connie will probably have an arc.
Feed him to Floch, jaw titan always dies stupidly and Floch never dies so it should cancel out
Feed him to Levi that way we get jaw Levi and his hand back.
Feed Zeke to Connie's mom instead and take Falco somewhere safe
I donât have anything against Falco personally, but it makes since to feed him to someone else
I like Falco, but Connie has lost far more than anyone outside the Walls. If feeding Falco to Connie's mom gives Connie some semblance of peace, so be it
NILE !
In a perfect world Connie can have the satisfaction of feeding ZEKE to his mother. Kinda proud that I predicted the âConnie tried to revive his momâ plot point but I think the fact that itâs falco means that Connie fails
There's no right answer here, but I can't imagine any mother would be able to live with the fact that she ate someone else's child in order to live again, so that's probably the worst option.
Well, logically speaking, Falco should probably be fed to Pixis. But my heart calls out for me to wrap him in a blanket.
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF CONNIE SEEMINGLY SNAPPING ON THE OTHERS AND INSISTING FALCO BE FED TO HIS MOTHER? 1,947 Responses
Understanding prevaled with close to 80% of the fandom selecting âI donât agree with his actions but I wholeheartedly sympathize with his reasoningâ. Only 13% indicated that they were disappointed with him.
Falco's a kid, man! You don't cross that line!
Connie, if your mom needs a kidney transplant, you don't just shank another person to steal their kidneys. Just saying.
Connie has been pushed to his limit. He needs a nap and a minute to cry.
Although Connie is not thinking clearly, I'm glad they're not blindly hating on him like some have been doing for Eren.
Connie's break is truly amazing to me. The guy was always so good and chill and dedicated before these hard times. To see him at his breaking point, horrified by everything that is happening and overwhelmed by the situation, and thus reverting into single-minded dedication to one fundamental goal - saving his mother. It's tragic to see him like this and it's probably not the best "logical" action, but it makes complete sense that he'd do this. He's sick of this clusterfuck. He has a ticket to save his mom and he's gonna take it. Poor Falco though, of course.
I didn't see it coming, but it's not like it's unthinkable. When the world collapses we often want to run back to our mama.
I disagreed with him, but I thinks his feelings are understandable and, also, I liked a lot that he pointed out 104's hypocrisy. The serum drama is coming back to bite their asses.
I understand he wants to see his mom again but does he really want to give her the cruel fate of becoming a titan shifter?
I understand his reasoning, but this is literally the WORST possible time to cause an internal crisis
I'm sad for him & deeply uncomfortable by it.
Iâm mad at Connie only because he straight up abandoned his duty to pacify the Titan situation. Â He left Jean, Mikasa, and Armin to take care of it without him. Lucky Shadis was there to help.
REGARDLESS OF YOUR VIEWS ON CONNIEâS ACTIONS, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT HIM FINALLY GETTING SOME TIME IN THE SPOTLIGHT? 1,946 Responses
More than half the fandom was happy to see him speak his mind and get some character development (53.3%). 16% were absolutely thrilled. Those who donât care, and those whose disappointment over how he returned soured the moment came in at 10%... Iâm willing to bet at least one of those votes is because he doesnât have a new hair style.
Going to the dark side doesn't suit the former sunshine called Connie.
My man has been in the story since the beginning. He is well overdue for an arc.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
But why FALCO? He's the ONLY character outside the Walls I actually LIKE!
Finally we get to see him say something about his mother. Yeah, maybe he's not one of the most important charcters overall, but what he lived through when he saw his mom on that roof finally deserves some thoughts and emotions. Connie was on the margin of the story for way too long, and I'm happy we get to see him talk about how he feels.
Glad heâs doing stuff but heâs 100% going to die
I haven't really liked his development. He's, altho understandably, just an angry dude that can't help himself from getting overcome by his emotions. Not a good look.
I really liked his whole "Eren's crossed the line", now he's making the same mistake. A bitter irony, but does Isayama have time for that?
I'm really disappointed in Connie's "friends" for basically telling him to "chill out, you can't save your mother because we need to make our enemies happy". Hell no to that, I completely sympathize with Connie far more than his "friends" especially since Armin is being the world's biggest hypocrite
It's good because it now opens up the possibility of Connie finally getting his revenge on Zeke
My Boi Connie deserves his own plot-line, so I'm really excited
TITAN ACTION! BUT OF THE PURE AND AVERAGE VARIETY INSTEAD OF COLOSSALS, WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THAT AS THE FOCUS OF THE CHAPTER? 1,936 Responses
A chapter in the endgame thatâs almost reminiscent of the defense of Trost with respect to mindless titan action and defending a base. Â Despite many other happenings such as the rumbling going on currently, 46% were totally fine with the focus on mindless titan action and thought it was written well, whereas 35.6% enjoyed it, but wished there was a bit more beyond checking that box. Â 10.8% wanted a larger focus on the titans in the rumbling, and 5.5% would have preferred a focus shift away from Shiganshina entirely.
I love the fact that shows how prepared and easy fighting mindless titans is for them now. When the titans attacked Trost they were hopeless and Jean was the one frozen in fear. Now we get to see him clear up the titans with ease.
I think showing smaller happenings before the big reveal of Eren's titan and the effects of the rumbling are important buildup.
I would have rather focused on what's happening to Pieck and the others near the wall.
I didn't feel that was the focus, but either way, I liked it.
I wish more wouldâve happened outside of it BUT itâs important to show them being dealt with otherwise readers would be like âwait, what about all those people who turned into titans?â So not the best, but necessary.
I'm not crazy about fighting scenes, I prefer the ones where they discuss stuff, but these were really emotional with Shadis and Pixis and everything. Like, it wasn't even so much about fighting itself, for me at least, but about Shadis uniting people again and Armin setting Pixis free finally.
I wish the chapter had explored the idea of Titans appearing now that the Military has begun using weapons which are more effective against humans than Titans. I had thought that the reappearance of Titans would do much more damage since the Military is no longer equipped to handle such threats.
Reminds me of the Trost arc and I love it, but it will probably end up being the last time we see pure titans as this much of a threat.
I love the Season 1-esque fan service. How this series has evolved.
I just wished they didn't have to kill their comrades...C'mon this poll question is so heartless wth?
AFTER EREN GAINED THE FOUNDER, WHY WHERE THE MINDLESS TITANS STILL ATTACKING THE SOLDIERS? 1,944 Responses
Nearly half of the fandom are giving Eren the benefit of the doubt that he simply cannot control the titans, rather than not caring about them or using them. Although many believe that heâs too focused on other things to concern himself with them, and many others feel certain that mindless titans attacking the soldiers is part of his greater plan.
3 times it was mentioned that Eren/Zeke can't control the Titans, I think someone else is controlling them. Possibly Ymir, maybe we'll see Eren getting betrayed.
Eren can't control the mindless Titans because they're Zeke's Titans
It's highly likely the Founding Titan's power and control over Pure Titans has a collective effect of sorts. That is, it can turn Pure Titans back into humans, but if it did, it would happen to ALL Pure Titans, not just a specific group of them. It's possible that is how the Fritz royalty used the Pure Titans while maintaining the Eldian population during ancient times. Here, if Eren were to use that aspect of the Founding Titan's power, both the Military Branch Officer Titans AND the Wall Titans would be turned back into humans. Right now, Eren is bent on using the Wall Titans to flatten the World, so he most likely does not want to use the power of the Founding Titan to turn all the Pure Titans in Shingashina + Connie's mom into humans; otherwise, the Wall Titans would turn into humans again too, and that would ruin his rumbling plan.
Regarding Eren and the mindless titans, control issues aside, I just don't think he cares.
WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE TITAN KILL THIS CHAPTER? 1,968 Responses
In a chapter full of titan action, several titan kills stood out as both awesome and tear jerking. Â Just over half of respondents, at 51.6%, most remember Armin taking out Pixis after thanking him for his service to the cause. Â In a very narrow battle for second place, Keith Shadis sowing the recruits how itâs done won out over Gabi taking a cue from Sasha and saving Kaya.
All of them were pretty darn cool
Gabi's and Mikasa's tie for me
Hard to choose, they're all good
I didn't find any of them memorable if I May be honest
Can I choose all? Because I am.
It's a tie between Shadis arriving to save the recruits, Gabi saving Kayo from the Nile Titan, and Armin killing the Pixis Titan. If I was forced to pick, I'd say Armin's scene because of his sorrowful dialogue upon seeing Pixis as a Pure Titan and the flashback to one of Pixis's earliest highlights when he believed in Armin and Eren shortly after they first met.
Literally all of them what kind of sadistic question is this how could I possibly choose
Loved all the kills!!!
ALL OF THE ABOVE
THERE WAS A LOT OF DEBATE AS THIS CHAPTER WAS COMING OUT ABOUT GABI, AT THIS POINT DO YOU LIKE HER AS A CHARACTER IN THE STORY? 1,985 Responses
Nearly two-thirds of of the fandom currently enjoy Gabiâs overall character, despite what their first impressions may have been (65.1%) . Though there are still many who have yet to warm up to her, if they ever do (34.9%).
Gabi is beginning to grow on me enough I feel neutral about her.
Gabi is a LITTLE more favorable to me, but I still hate her and I wish she never existed. She can never earn forgiveness for Sasha.
gabi is good you guys are just mean
WHICH THOUGHT BEST MATCHED HOW YOU CURRENTLY FEEL ABOUT GABI? 1,977 Responses
One of the most controversial characters in the story is of course Gabi Braun, but what do fans truly think of her? Â Almost half, at 45.9% donât profess love for her character from the mountains, but understand why sheâs important to the story. Â In contrast, 19.6% firmly believe the story would be better off if she never existed, and 17.6% want to see even more of her in the upcoming chapters. Â 16.9% just think sheâs been in the spotlight a little bit too much.
Fuck Gabi, Eren will always be better, not this carbon copy Mary Sue
gabi fucking GANG
Such a great chapter! Iâm glad that the Gabi hate is stopping now.
Don't know why are people surprised about Gabi. Her closure with the Braus family is something I figured was gonna happen eventually. Guess Isayama wanted to get that out of the way early.
Of course my opinion of Gabi is unchanged. I still hate her no matter how much "development" she gets.
Gabi is a super uninteresting character to me
i really liked gabiâs character development in this chapter, especially since i was previously a gabi hater.
She is the new MC now. Upgrade.
I see why Gabi exists but sheâs just such a forced character. The parallel between her and Sasha was so forced and just felt wrong. Donât care about her killing Sasha her character is just a forced rehash of eren.
I'm disappointed in her as she is becoming more likeable
Gabi's character development finally completed in a brilliant way
Like Eren, she's fighting for people she cares about, even if she's wrong/vicious with her methods.
Iâm tired of Gabi
Really wish we wouldn't have Gabi shoved down our throats, she's not a good character, let alone person
I'm really proud of Gabi and how far she's come from her original POV. I'm really hoping that this influences Eren and I really hope Falco and Gabi get to reunite.
yams wants us to like her more
She has the same motivations as Eren once had, to save the world, basically.
I will admit Gabi has gone through a lot of development. But that doesn't mean I have to like her. I still hate her, and I will NEVER EVER forgive her for what she did to Sasha.
Gabi's haters being mad is so funny. My girl truly shined this chapter, I love her even more.
Gabi.... I feel like I would absolutely hate being around her irl but I guess I do appreciate her as a character in the story.
Never wanted to kill a child so badly in my existence
Death to Gabi Braun!
I don't hate Gabi enough to want her dead, but "too much spotlight" is the understatement of the year, especially when there is still a lot that has yet to be resolved with the main characters
She just wants to protecc
I love Gabi but she gets too much screen time at this point in the story. I want to see Historia and hopefully Eren later.
I LOVE GABI SO MUCH SHE IS THE BEST GIRL
I like Gabster. Gabi Gang Gabi Gang
Me no likey bad bad
NOW THAT ALL OF THE ORIGINAL BRANCH HEADS ARE GONE, WHO SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF THE PARADIS MILITARY? 1,955 Responses
The head of all of Paradisian government, Darius Zackly, went out with a bang, and now weâve lost the interim head Pixis, as well as Nile Dok. Â Whoâs going to pick up the torch? Â Thereâs a big three that seem to have emerged as popular choices, with Jean winning out, Hange coming in second, and Shadis taking up third. Â
A combination of several people noted above.
Hanji+SC Armin+Garrison Jean+MP
Anyone but Floch
Jean. He's the only one that can view the Rumbling objectively and not rule it out as bad because their enemies are destroyed
Armin for strategy, Jean for leadership, Hanji for progress
Daz
Shadis should take over, but only untill Jean can get a little more experience leading.
As long as they agree Marley needs to be wiped out for the sake of Paradis, I'm okay with any leader that accepts that responsibility
Definitely not Hange. She wanted to make peace with Marley. Not leadership worthy at all.
Rico ;-;
Hange may be commander, but they are unfit for taking on as the head of the military. Same goes for Keith, though in this chapter he shows courage by stepping up to push the trainees to fight, I doubt he is willing to go back into a similar position as he was before as the Survey Corp's commander. Among the candidates, Armin may seem like a promising candidate, but aside from his proven intellect, just like Hange both do not possess the level of prowess of leading all three branches (four if count the training squad)of the military. More I think about it the "best" candidate in this list may surprisingly be Jean, but so far he hasnt been giving me the impression as someone who can take on such a massive role.

WHY DID FLOCH ARREST THE VOLUNTEERS? 1,903 Responses
The fandom is fairly divided on Flochâs motives, with a three-way split that comes close to being even. The highest amount of respondents feel he is arresting the Volunteers because he doesnât trust them based on past actions. In the middle, people feel that he doesnât want to be associated with any non-Eldian people. And in third place, people felt that he doesnât trust Yelena specifically, and is taking her group down with her.
As far as I've seen, Floch is on Eren's side, not Zeke's. So that would make Yelena, who hasn't heard about her boss and the euthanasia plan, dangerous as fuck. Even with that, Floch's following his own principles. He has different reasons than Eren, but he just needs the "devil" figure to project his own will.
He always knew Yelena and Zeke's intentions because of Eren, and now he's arresting them to prevent more trouble caused by them. I think Eren "trusts" and is working with Flcoh more than the fandom expect.
Because they conspired to sterilize/euthanize the Paradisians.
He's a completely inconsistent character whose personality and character motivations change at the drop of a hat in order to create conflict in the story.
He thinks Yelena can take over his position of the best Yeager fanboy and he can't have that.
He was never really on their side at all! Just like how Eren saw them - they were a means to an end, a useful tool but a dangerous one that could never really be trusted. Now that Eren has made his intentions clear and the ideological split is visible, he's fully turning on them and suppressing them from potentially pursuing their own agendas further.
Thereâs not enough room on Paradis for both of those eccentric hair cuts
GABI AND ARMIN BOTH SEEM INTERESTED IN PUTTING ASIDE THEIR DIFFERENCES: WILL THE SURVEY CORPS AND WARRIORS TEAM UP? 1,928 Responses
After having been warring factions since the beginning, will the warriors and Survey Corps finally team up as one? Â 62.9% feel a team up will happen, but not everyone from both sides will want to be involved, and a solid 30% believe a full team up is in the cards. Â Only 5.8% donât feel that itâs possible at this point.
Any cooperation will be a compromise, so maybe?
At this point I really don't know. Their passivity disappointed me fully this chapter. They need their TRUE leaders who are MIA at the moment.
I hope it happens but I think Armin is acting under Bert's influence
I hope not, it sounds lame.
i think maybe they will be forced to work together to stop the titans because they are attacking both sides.
It's the ideal scenario I suppose
Only until the Rumbling stops. After that, the SC needs to dispose of all the remaining Warriors to end the war for good.
PLEASE MAYBE REINER WILL GET SOME CLOSURE OUT OF IT
Probably but itâs waaay to clichĂŠ. Please donât Isayama
They'll team up to stop Eren, if that works they'll be enemies once again
Yes and Yes! I've been saying this for months: warriors and SC are going to have to work together. Magath is going to play a role in this too.
 ANNIE!! THOUGHTS: 1,948 Responses
91 chapters. Â 91 Months. Â 7 and a half years. Â Longer than we were with the characters pre-timeskip. Â Annie has been in a crystal, but now she's free! Â 33.4% think she came back at the perfect time and Isayama has nailed his writing once again. Â 18.4% are excited for her return, but donât feel thereâs much time left in the story for the wait to be worth it. Â 15.7% arenât worshippers at her crystal, and so arenât too hyped out of their minds. Â 29% however: A N N I E
akueeoekskfnfjyfjekqwiruuri MY GIRL IS BACK BITCHES, AND I NEED POST-AWAKENING MIKANNIE FANFICTION NOW
glad she's back but the plot has nothing for her to do anymore
How he brought her back makes perfect sense and I love it. If she chose to come out at this time rather than being forced, it would have been awkward and forced to be honest. But Eren taking away all hardening is the best way to bring her back AFTER SEVEN FUCKING YEARS.
glad to have her back but sceptical of her importance
go back into hibernation
Good in-story reason, great writing, but waited far too long. Not sure if she will even be relevent for the remainder of the story that already has a lot of loose ends.
Hentannie
I am not hyped because it took too long and the series has gone too far down a path I can no longer follow.
I DID MY WAITING! TWELVE YEARS OF IT! IN AZKABAN!
I don't know what Annie can do at this point of the story that will make her return worthwhile
I donât think Isayama and his editors would allow her to be brought back for a poor plot point/reason, so Iâm curious to see what role sheâll have.
I wasn't too concerned about Annie at this point in the story but I'm glad that her return makes sense with the events currently taking place and I'm interested to see what Isayama has planned for her.
I'm no fan of her so I'm not excited at all, but I assume she'll drive the plot somewhere soon.
She's got a lot of catching up to do. Concerned it won't be handled well.
The reasoning is sound, and I am glad that Isayama thought that part through, but we have a limited number of pages left, so I am worried about how this will play out.
Took too long so it ended up being very 'meh' for me, but congratulations Annie-stans, have a drink tonight
Should've been way sooner, her potential as a character feels wasted since we're almost done now. All she'll have time to do is get caught up on what happened and then have a couple reunions.
I honestly have no idea what Isayama plans to do with her but Iâm just GLAD SHES FINALLY FUCKING BACK!!!! MY BABY GIRL IS BACK!!!!
ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT WHAT ANNIE WILL DO NEXT? 675 Responses
Annie will have a run-in with Hitch, get things explained and head towards the main conflict.
Dare I say it, Assist With Arminâs Talk No Jutsu with Eren
"Run"
Definitely try to get to her dad.
Try to find her warrior friends
Determine her situation and act accordingly
She won't be too surprised at what Eren's become. She remarked how when the "good guys" take power, then it's all over to Marlowe in Season 1.
A girl can dream of her and Pieck being badasses.
All the titan shifters will come together (location-wise), it seem like a flag? Since all the shifter's powers is a part of Ymir herself, having them close might have significant meaning.
ANNIETHING
Be traumatized by manga spoilers? Wonder wtf happened?? Try to find Reiner??
Annie will join Eren.
Not give a shit about anything apart from Papa Leonhardt
Annie will play a huge role in stopping Eren, in some way.
be a badass like usual and FEMALE TITAN ACTION?????
Change her clothes because why is she wet
umm take a shower lol
Character development and teaming up against Ereh
I think Hitch will be the one to find her - she was in charge of guarding the crystal. I think she'll be too weak to fight right now though, so I'm worried that she's just going to be used as a Titan Shifter snack :(
Somehow affect Eren's mindset. Not sure exactly how.
Go kiss Armin pls
I'm hoping for Armin to transform into the Colossal Titan. Annie will see this thinking it's Bertoldt, and then have a good character moment upon finding out that Armin ate him.
Her endgame is to at least partially counteract the rumbling with her scream ability.
Confused --> Shocked --> Mad --> or all at the same time. Anyway, she will probably meet up with Armin and the gang and they will explain the shit situation to her and somehow they will come up with a plan or smth.
I think sheâll be forgotten about for a few chapters then show up in the battle. Itâll be interesting to see what side she takes at that point. Iâm sure someone will conveniently fill her in on the last few years.
She's a wild card, but the last we saw her she wanted to get back home. I'm sure she will be invested in saving the world from annihilation.
She is FAR away right now. I think dealing with Annie is a good wind-down after all this World-ending stuff has been dealt with, like when they save the Shire after defeating Sauron
Crystallize
Yeet to Marley and die with her papa.
Annie's first move will be to find a toilet sure she must be dying for a pee like
HOW HAS YOUR OPINION ON THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERS CHANGED?
Shadis, Jean and Gabi are the big winners in the opinion poll this month with the majority selecting âMore Favorableâ reaction to them. Shadis had 1379 respondents selecting âmore favorableâ, Jean had 1076 and Gabi came in third with 980. Fighting titans so soon after surviving a bear attack is impressive, so Iâm not surprised with these results. At the other end of the spectrum, Connie (542) and Floch (496) had the most number of âLess Favorableâ selections. While the good outweighed the bad, Gabi again proved to be polarizing with 432 people choosing âLess Favorableâ despite her positive development this month.
FAVORITE NEW TITAN DESIGN? 1,926 Responses
Isayamaâs nods to his television viewing habits continue with the appearance of the âBetter Call Saulâ titan. Our appreciation of Isayamaâs sense of humor continues with more than 50% of us selecting it as Favorite New Titan Designâ (51.5%). Pixis was a distance second with close to a quarter choosing his titan form (23.7%) as their favorite.
Still laughing over the Saul Titan. Good ol' slippin' Jimmy
the Better call Saul titan looks more like Bolsonaro (Brazil's president)
one last hurrah to the Pure Titan mayhem the series was originally known for, and witnessing the tragic end to Nile and Pixis
WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO SEE NEXT CHAPTER? 1,926 Responses
The three elements of the story which have been absent for months, or even years, take the top overall votes for what the fandom would like to see next. 33.6% are dying to see present-day Levi and Hange again. 24.1% are still eager to get Historiaâs perspective. 23.6% are still hoping to one day see Erenâs inner thoughts.
All I want for Christmas....Is Historias POV
I'm missing Connies adventure on the 'What are you hoping to see next chapter?' question.
Bitch give me Levi. Itâs been more than half a year.
I literally only care about the 104th characters so the more of them we can see next chapter the better
Give me more Eren action pleaseee
So why is Annie pov not an option for next chapter?
I have waited for 7 years, finally, Annie is back. I wanna see more of her story and  character development. I cant wait to see her conversation with Hitch and Armin!
Please Isayama give me more good Shadis content
I really want to see Eren's full complete titan. Issayama, stop blueballing us please!
I would actually like to know more about that spine creature that is evidently the source of Titans.
Is there a Kiyomi option?
WHERE DO YOU PRIMARILY DISCUSS THE SERIES? 1,843 Responses
With close to 200,000 members itâs no surprise that Reddit continues to dominate the discussion field (47.7%), followed distantly by Tumblr (15.5%), Real Life (9.8%) and Discord (6.7%). Amazingly, 9% donât discuss it at all. This month, FIVE of you said Snapchat, up from four last month, so while thereâs still technically a possibility that you guys are actually forming some weird snapchat cult and this isnât an elaborate psyop, Iâm still not convinced. But regardless of where you discuss the series, or if you even do, we truly appreciate your participation in the chapter poll!
 ADDITIONAL COMMENTS? 416 Responses
OMG! Okay, it's happening! Everybody stay calm! Annie! Annie! Annie!
Annie got crystalized in chapter 33, and now she's out, 91 chapters later. Since 12 chapters are published in a year, we have been waiting for her (not including flasbacks and her just chilling in the crystal) 7 years and 7 months. I salute all the diehard Annie fans, you had a long wait.
Once again I have marked my calendar. May 9, 2012 - December 5, 2019. After 7 excruciating years our queen is FINALLY awake. This deserves a new record for longest amount of time a character has been comatose in real life. Thank GOD it's finally over I still can't believe it.
I'm a big fan of all of the smaller storylines coming together, hoping for everything to be wrapped up nicely and characters from different factions (i.e Hange, Annie, Historia) all coming together to address the rumbling.
It felt a little like a breather chapter, despite all the action. It was nice to slow down and get some character development for everyone.
âEveryone has a devil in themâ is a great message. Hope they all team up and stop Eren. Very curious about what Annie will do!
The parallels to Trost arc were nice, but I felt like the endgame was finally amping up only to be put on hold.
Great chapter! I like Pathland, and the flashback with Levi and Hanji was great, but it was a relief to get some current time action. Gabi is best girl, Armin just went up by leaps and bounds in my book, and Annie is back!! So excited for the next chapterâŚ
Great one ! The fear from the mindless titans in back, like in Trost. Many side characters development/deaths (Nile, Pixis, Shadis, Kaya, Nicolo, Gabi, Annie, Connie, Jean...). So much good stuff, I almost forgot about the rumbling going on !!
Amazing. If Isayama maintains this quality til the end, then this will be one of my favorite series, of any media, ever.
I'm wondering what Annie can realistically do at this point. Sure she beat Eren before but now he's in another level.
Guess we don't have to deal with the genocidal jock for a while
REINER HELOS BRAUN WILL SAVE THE WORLD (after his power nap)
ANNNIIEEEEE; Shadis' comeback was wonderful. I hope he can make up for the loss of Pixis and Erwin and such. He has great potential and he's a well developed character. Jean is asking the real questions, but the showdown between him and Floch is about to go down.
I said previously that if Floch survives I wanted my money back. But you know what? I'll take my refund in Annie store credit. Thanks for that bright spot, Isayama! Â Also: this chapter pointed out how many good people in the world will suffer if Eren succeeds. And I felt as frustrated with the remnants of the 104th as Gabi. Nicolo and Shadis became my unexpected heroes this chapter.
Is Zeke still alive? Is he still controlling the mindless titans?
Floch didnât do anything particularly bad this chapter but every time I have to see his face my opinion of him becomes less favorable. When Jean said âso you lived...â I FELT that disappointment lol.
I love the Braun siblings interaction in this chap. And Nicole's "we'll try to get out of the forest" sends chills. I think that's one of the point ISTM is trying to get across.
Does Connie realise that if his mother was given one of the nine titan powers she would be made to fight? Getting one of the titan powers is very much a curse not a blessing (especially with the Jaw titan)
At this point the Eren/Gabi parallels are feeling a little overdone and forced.
If Gabi receives Erenâs Titan it will be the stupidest most disappointing thing to happen in this- no all of manga! Besides, what is the damn point of her âparallelingâ Eren anyways? But the Sasha paralleling was even more gnarly YUCK!
It's true that the people of Paradis will benefit from this shit, but I highly disagree with any justification when it comes to Eren's horrible actions. GENOCIDE IS NEVER THE OPTION. I think Jean is disappointed too but he's trying his best to rationalize the crap Eren's carrying out for he still doesn't want to believe his friend is committing genocide. I expect he comes back to his senses soon otherwise I no longer will appreciate him as a character.
That "who are you most disappointed" will sadly be filled with Armin hate tbh. And in the end he was just wanting to avoid unnecessary conflict... tbh Anyone hating on Connie, Gabi and Armin doesn't seems to know how humans emotion work in helpless situations...
What Yams is doing to Connie is further proof he is ruining his main characters (the good ones) to make room for his precious Marley characters (the crappy ones)
Connie's regression and frustration was more and more visible since Sasha died. He's lost everyone close to him. I am happy to see him finally snap at Armin and go his own way. This was foreshadowed for a while now.
I hope Isayama sensei doesn't forget to include World Millitary's raid in the action. They already mention in some previous chapter by Zeke.
Quantity-wise, the chapter wasn't centered around Gabi, okay. But. BUT. Gabi got quite a few powerful scenes, very Gabi-centric scenes, and I'm not happy about that. I don't see how and why the fandom so easily forgave her for what she's done. Isayama drawing parallels between Gabi and Sasha was insulting and distasteful.
It is highly likely that this is the last time we are going to see Pure Titan mayhem in the series now that the Rumbling is taking place, so I think it was great to that focus in this chapter. I thought it was handled well, especially with Shadis's scenes, the parallel of the new recruits seeing the Pure Titans peaking through the hole of the fortress tower much like a similar scene in the Trost arc, the tragedy of seeing Pixis and Nile (two of the last remaining head honchos of the military not counting Hange and Shadis) as Pure Titans and getting killed off for good, and how characters like Armin and Jean fought those Pure Titans. Â
WARMASTER FLOCKE, TO LEAD THE ARMIES OF ELDIA TO VICTORY! Haha no I guess not. I'm torn between Flocke, Jean, Eren, and Shadis. All could be good picks but all outcomes would have different implications on the story and what it means. I guess if I had to pick, it'll be Shadis or Eren for now and then perhaps Jean later when things have settled and they've grown up more.
I honestly can't keep up with how many faces Floch has.
With how the pacing is handled there's no way this is ending in 6 chapters. The real climax is Eren having to go against his friends because there's no way in hell Mikasa is allowing him to genocide kids
As heartbreaking as this chapter has been, I already had my hopes destroyed when 119 was released. Today has been the confirmation for two awesome characters, who fell because of the non-veteran rule. I don't know why I still hope to see Keith staying alive, but at least we got an awesome moment of his.
Characters are being balanced relatively well. Isayama's got a lot of characters and plot threads to deal with, and while Levi, Hange and Historia are getting less focus than I would like, I think he's doing a pretty good job of keeping each character relevant and giving them all some good arcs/ moments
Everything (except for Gabi scenes) was perfect for me!
Eww Gabi-focused chapterâŚ
I simply hate how cowardy the 104th is acting. It's clear they're only fighting in their own interest and are just pulling excuses after excuses for supporting Eren. At least Floch is honest about it.
Man, the 104th always been the group I care the less in the story, but this chapter they're being so annoying (apart from Mikasa). Well, I can forgive Connie because of everything he went through, but Jean... why are you saying this ""there was no other choice, eren is protecting us"" bs ? Nice of you to be complicit of mass genocide. (Yes, I know his face shows he's conflicted, but he still sides with eren) Also Armin... at least he's horrified at what's Eren's doing but when he said that if they don't kill Falco there would be no conflict with the warriors since Marley will be gone....that's just dumb. Their home and families are going to be destroyed, but ok Armin, go off. And getting into another serumbowl situation, with one of my fave uncounscious while the SC decides who will eat him... I don't like it. (I don't think Falco will be eaten tho, the whole thing raised many death flags on Connie)
Great chap, Isayama seems to finally give closure to certain plot parts. End is near.
Here's a crazy idea: feed GABI to Connie's mom instead of Falco, there would be nowhere near as much arguing with that
Highlights that people can rise above their conditions to become better people, offering a counterargument that humanity should be wiped out.
I don't get why the story pacing was disrupted so much. Why build up to a climatic cliffhanger with the rumbling, only to basically ignore it for the entire following chapter?
I honestly wonder if titan shifting still works as it used to. I'm afraid of seeing Falco get eaten for nothing. Honestly I'm worried about Falco dying for nothing while people right over him as a pawn in general.
Quite interesting chapter. Had fun with it. Much, much slower paced than expected almost. But then again we need time to cover all this stuff. And I'm happy it all took place in the current rather than another flashback. Not really a fan of the Gabi stuff but it is what it is. The other character developments were quite nice. Reiner literally just falling asleep tho lol. Overall I guess I wouldn't say it's a "big" chapter but it is necessary to bridge what came before with whatever comes next. And at long last Annie is back, so that's GLORIOUS.
I hope Annie will have such a big role she gets repaid for the all years she's been goneđ
I hope Isayama uses the slowdown in the pace to better sell the scale of the rumbling, we already see part of that by hoe Eren's dino titan still isnt complete, even after all this time
I love how the story is progressing. The next chapter is always something I personally don't expect and it's always exciting. The hype at the beginning/end of the month is unreal. As for the chapter itself, it's always refreshing to see Jean's perspective on Eren's plans because I love his interpretations on him. #TEAMJAEGER
i love my waifu annie i missed her so much
I love you Connie and I'm sure your mom is nice and all but Falco is a precious bean who needs to be protected.
I really hated the Gabi-Sasha and Gabi-Eren parallels. I also still think Gabi was never needed in this story, in fact I donât know how Iâll be able to stomach season 4. Ugh, the first half will be completely and utterly Gabified. Gabi in color and motion plus speaking, YUCK! Â Anyways I hope that the next chapter will have an update on Hange, Levi, and Historia. And maybe Floch getting punched by Shadis that would be the Cherry on top.
It was an average chapter, not bad but nowhere near as good as the previous ones. Plus I'd appreciate if other characters, outside of Gabi, had more spotlight. Her arc and development is done, give more development and screentime to other characters such as Mikasa please.
Just being disappointed. The pacing is very slow. Also the main cast's reactions were too passive. I hated it.
Just great. Just great. The drawings were incredible and the plot just keeps getting better.
Less Gabi, more Historia!
Levi and Hange better return in some way, shape, or form, or Yam's is in for it.
Levi is the new Annie
Love getting to see thoughts from many different characters and where they stand. A lot of them are still left behind trying to rationalise things to make it emotionally palatable, or simply stuck not being able to accept the reality, whereas Gabi has kind of gone ahead and realised there's evil on both sides, and she's willing to kill Eren or work with him if she can best protect the people she cares about (eventually probably not just her friends and family either, but the outside Eldians as a whole).
My baby is back!!!!!!!! I wanna see more of ANNIE!!!!!!
Nicolo talking to Kaya and Gabi was cringey af. Did they really do back to that derpy forest analogy? If this series ends with them holding hands and singing around a campfire imma legit be so disappointed. I need me my Rumbling!
This chapter felt like a nostalgia trip, but I wasn't in for the ride. It was a mess of short catching-up moments when I just want to pick Eren's brain. I want to see Levi and Hange alive or hear what Annie and Historia think about the events, but at the moment I don't care about even those storylines. I just want to know what the relationship between Ymir and Eren is now that the walls came down.
The first panel being Mr. Leonhart was a pretty strong indicator to me that Annie would be released in the last panel, and it was. I felt that to be extremly poetic, and the timing is good too. Another wildcard in the plot. Excellent.
Compared to the previous chapter, this one turned out to be very disappointing. I was excited to see the rumbling and getting a glimpse of Erenâs thoughts and feelings. But instead I got Reiner going to sleep, Gabi being paralleled to Eren (again) and Sasha, the 104th busy arguing over what to do with Falco instead of, you know, focusing on THE RUMBLING
Good chapter, but if S4 is the final season and airs Autumn 2020, and with a monthly release, curious as to how isayama might tie up these "last minute" plot threads such as the new developments with Connie and Falco.
What else can I say except it's amazing and it was worth the wait
Where is Levi damnit

Fanfic Progress Update: Light at the End of the Tunnel and Going Forward (Part 2 of 2)
Part 1: Here
Sorry this took awhile get out, my lying ass said âa few daysâ last time, but a month is about the same amount of time... right? Iâve been busy trying to finish up a fic I wrote for a very helpful friend as a Christmas gift, which obviously isnât late as crap now. Besides that, some unavoidable stuff came up (including having my phone containing writing notes totally crap out on me, internet issues, oh and almost becoming homeless because my landlord jacked up rent a bunch without notice, forcing me to try to sell my plasma and to scramble for money. That was fun. But thatâs a whole other story).
I hope youâll understand that real life troubles have to take priority. I know, itâs always excuses with me, sorry. I wish I could control my life and not have all this shit constantly come up too.
Okay, now that my customary pathetic excuses are out of the way letâs get down to business! First up? Fic progress updates! But PREPARE FOR AN ONSLAUGHT OF WORDS! (as if thatâs anything new).
The Bonds That Never Break: The last piece of the âBirthdayâ chapters (which were originally supposed to be one but got split because all these issues) has had some progress (maybe 1/4 of the way) and wonât be a difficult undertaking finishing it up since I know what I want to do, but... Honestly I've hit a major roadblock with the fic beyond this point. My ideas for original stuff are coming up empty and simply rewriting the entire plot isnât my plan (even now I think the ratio is too far skewed for canon content without enough additions of my own).
The problem as I said in my Authorâs Notes of the most recent chapter is the format keeps me tied to the canon, which limits my options. I love the idea, but I canât deny doing a faithful canon rewrite is a pain sometimes. And in the coming chapters my new ideas are pretty much nil beyond a few scattered chunks from the Konoha Crush arc to about halfway through Shippuden.
Side Note: I planned on skipping canon rewriting most of Shippuden. The fights with Akatsuki and such donât really play into Naruto and Sasukeâs relationship and Iâm not interested in doing that much extra legwork beyond the main focus of this fic. I only care about the dorks and their story and elements of the anime that deal with it. So beyond that, weâll jump a bunch of that and go directly to the end, a new ending where they get together eventually, where everything will be new.
So me being stuck being the case, I MAY skip forward a ways to something more solidly planned and thought out, and come back later to fill in the gap. Maybe to the point after the ending where everything is my own creation so we can see the dorks repairing their relationship and just making out like they SHOULD have done from the start. Weâll see what happens. Iâd be very interested in hearing readerâs opinions, maybe Iâll set up a poll to see what you you think.
I REALLY think I need to put this on hold for a while and watch the anime start to finish, to help inspire me and bring back my passion. I love these guys but over the last year and a half my interest has faded. I need to get back into the ship and reignite those feelings I first had when I started the show so I can channel that into better chapters.
The Horny Canine Boys of the Hidden Leaf Village: Having trouble with this one too. To put it in semi-simple terms, I know what I want in chapter A and chapter C, but connecting them together with chapter B is causing me issues. Havenât started the next chapter yet (technically the conclusion to the most recent one, since I broke that up because I wasnât finished and had gone so long without updates) but I do know what it will involve and have plenty of notes so it shouldnât take TOO long. That being said, from there Iâm not sure what to do. I might skip forward and do chapters later on in the story first since I have a clearer idea of what I want them to be. This fic is mostly porn without plot so itâs not like skipping around would matter that much, but itâs still pretty frustrating. Probably going to make a poll for this one too, to get readerâs opinions regarding to skip or not.
Dogs Keep it in the Family: Some progress on finishing up the update I cut short, mainly need to assemble all the parts and ideas together into a cohesive whole. So not too much work. The problem with this one is mainly issues of quality I have with it, content not meeting my expectations. I have plenty of notes and a few more chapters plotted out, itâs mainly just finding the occasions where I can get some good writing done. That aside thereâs also a lot of questions beyond the first couple chapters of what I want to include that Iâm not sure about. I need to think more about this one.
The Unorthodox Journey of a Pokemon Breeder Boy: The next chapter of the Charizard segment is roughly half way done. But I pushed this out way too soon mainly because I was so sick of it being constantly on my âTo-do listâ in an in-progress state during months and months of interruptions. Going forward though Iâm not really sure what I want to do with it; I simultaneously have this grand vision, but an abnormal lack of concrete ideas for new chapters. Iâve had some little sparks of inspiration and prompts, but beyond that Iâm just not feeling it flow into a greater idea.
Hereâs my planned schedule for this round of updates. Thingâs could change, but Iâll make a notice if they do.
1. Untitled Inuyasha fic; Koga/Ginta/Hakkaku threesome. This is a gift for a friend Iâve been trying to finish for weeks now
2. The Bonds that Never Break. Last segment of the Birthday chapter
3. The Horny Canine Boys of the Hidden Leaf Village. Next half of the Dogs Will Play chapter. This one has the least recent update (and is by far my most read fic) so I might push it ahead.
4. Dogs Keep it in the Family. Last chunk of the Motherâs Stern Hand chapter
5. The Unorthodox Journey of a Pokemon Breeder Boy. Second half of the Charizard segment
Next are details of my plans going forward. Itâs lengthy (itâs ME after all) but important so Iâd recommend checking it out. Long story short: After updating each of my current fics, Iâm temporarily switching over from the large projects above to one-shots for a time.
But Iâll still be writing and Iâm not dropping any of those big fics! I just need a break from the intensive work they require.
On to other matters. If youâve read my other insanely long updates (if you have youâre a trooper) youâll know I havenât been having a great time for a long while. If not, check Part 1 or older Progress Updates for more info. Long story short, Iâm completely worn out from endless months and months of bullshit. Even though its FINALLY quieted down now, I still need a break.
You might say, âBut youâve been on hiatus for months!â That was because I could never get a night without fist fights or drunk parties or literal death threats being screamed all hours. That hiatus was because I couldnât focus, because I was in a stressful situation and had no real alternative.
Now Iâm saying I need some mental health time, a break from scrambling between fics that went without updates or had half finished chapters as compensation for that utter nonsense, trying to catch up and failing to get back to normal because of it. I went straight from that atmosphere into rapidly trying to get everything back up to speed, never taking a breather and celebrating my freedom. I need to take a few steps back and gather myself, actually breathe easy without fears of drunk assholes trying to break in to peopleâs apartments, before I jump back into things.
Because of all that crap, I had to make do with putting out lazy and poorly constructed work. It made me feel like a shitty writer and that I was letting readers down. I canât express how awesome people who stuck by patiently waiting for updates, understanding I wasnât in a great place, really are. But not doing my best made me feel like I wasnât meeting expectations of people who had been so nice. Yes itâs just fanfiction, maybe Iâm getting dramatic, but still.
Iâm so sick of putting out half-assed or incomplete chapters and fics. Rushing from one to another, scrambling to make updates that arenât complete or as polished as I would like, leaving this trail of disappointment behind me. I look at what Iâve produced lately and Iâm just so deeply unhappy with the quality. Most of that was the horrible situation I was in, but now itâs my haste, like Iâm trying to do 5 things at once to catch up now that things are okay and none end up great. I appreciate dearly readers supporting me and being understanding all this time. But when you KNOW you can do better and arenât meeting your own expectations itâs very frustrating. I take my writing, even if it IS only fanfiction, seriously. I feel a commitment to making the best chapters for people who enjoy what I do.
These big projects are so exhausting, so much work tweaking them just right. All the effort and time I spend has just worn me out. Itâs gotten to the point that Iâm starting to resent working on them, it feels like an obligation. I rush through stuff trying to make everyone happy and in the end my work suffers. Itâs tough to make good stuff when it feels like a chore. And thatâs never a good mentality to have when writing. Iâm not doing my best work when itâs not fun.
Add to that the fact that my notes are an ABSOLUTE CLUSTER FUCKING MESS. Bits and pieces of stories saved in Google Docs, on my phone, and written in spirals, scattered everywhere. There are things for both Canine Boys and Bonds that I didnât write down when I was breezing through work that I have now forgotten in my haste to churn out dwindling chapters and struggle with all the bullshit that had overwhelmed my life. Thatâs a big problem.
For example. In Canine Boys I know what I want to do with chapters 5 and 7, but my notes on 6 are paltry and I have since forgotten what I wanted to do. Problematic, even if it is just porn.
And there are pieces to the planned ending of Bonds that are hazy and difficult to remember because of the time that has passed, mental stress, and lack of organization. I need to get things in order first thing.
No joke, when I look at all my future plans and mess of notes, sometimes I get micro-panic attacks. Because thereâs just SO MUCH to do, SO MUCH I need to plan and write, and oh god what did I forget this time, ugh I canât figure out how to move on and do the next chapter, I canât remember what good thing I planned for this and Iâm disappointing my readers!!! ect. Itâs truly overhauling sometimes. And itâs not pleasant or an effective way of writing. I need to get this mess sorted out, lay back and have some brainstorming to fix all those plot and continuity issues.
As if that wasnât enough, my phone had loads of good things saved on it, ideas for both Bonds and Canine Boys that were GREAT and necessary to moving the stories forward. Well a few days ago it totally crapped out and I canât access it. Losing the notes saved on my phone has left me pretty bummed. Itâs like a knife in the heart. Because I had SO. MANY. GOOD. IDEAS. ON. THERE. And the thought of them just gone makes me just want to give up because I worry I wonât ever come up with something to match and replace all that was lost.
So yeah, I need to take a step away from these big works. All that being said, Iâm not on hiatus anymore. More like semi-hiatus. Iâm taking a break from âseriousâ writing, from these huge projects (all 4 current fics would count) and switching over to some smaller one shots in the meantime. I need time to recoup and rest and actually celebrate my newfound peace and quiet without deadlines. I want to work for a while with worrying about timely updates or letting readers down with quality issues. Iâm going to take a breather, regain my confidence, organize my disaster notes, and come back strong, RATHER than keep limping along as I have been.
SO, once I make one more update to each of those 4 fics, Iâll be putting them off to the side for a while and focusing on simpler one shots. Hopefully people will check those out too, itâs still me and my style, just smaller (and a friend joked that I donât do small projects. A one shot for me is like 10-20k words).
After these updates, which in all honesty wonât be my greatest work, not that Iâve been excelling for a while, I am DONE doing shoddy unfinished work. No more.
Once these chapters are out Iâll be shifting to one shots for a temporary cool down so I can gather my thoughts and organize my ideas. This should mean when I come back to these the quality is better, my inspiration is restarted, and I can get back on track writing fluidly instead of struggling.
I have no idea how long this period of smaller works could last. I would estimate anywhere between 3-9 months, since I want a more long term period of separation. Too much focus and worrying has made dealing with them tedious, I just donât want to have to worry about them for a bit.
As you can see from teh Future Ideas section of my Masterlist I have LOOOTS of ideas. A good number of WIPs were recently inspired by my friend Ren and his beautiful, dirty mind. No I am not working on all those works in the Future Ideas at the same time, this is just a list of ideas that have popped into my head over time. Some may eventually be dropped if I canât work them properly, but I do have a good chunk of progress already done on a number of those, while others have a few paragraphs written, and some are pretty much a premise and a few sentences.
Do not expect all those to be finished soon. This is a VERY VERY long term look at my plans. Like, over the few years or more probably, knowing how slow I write and how annoyingly perfectionist I am. I will likely shift priorities around between all these as new ideas inspire me or old fics require attention, but from now on I plan on trying to focus the bulk of my attention on 2 or 3 projects at once. Sort of like an assembly plant; one fic in pre-production, one in the process of being built, and one getting the final touches. That way I can churn things out more efficiently. I think that's a much better way to balance all my fics than rushing to and fro manically.
DO NOT WORRY! Just because I have all these future plans doesnât mean Iâm abandoning any of my current fics; Bonds that Never Break, Canine Boys, Dogs Keep it in the Family, and Journey of a Pokemon Breeder Boy will still get attention and I have plenty of thoughts, notes, and plans for those going forward. This list of fic ideas is just a glimpse into my thought process and future plans, in addition to somewhere I can keep readers updated with my priorities (Iâll make updates here as well).
I know what youâre probably thinking. âOh great, more fics you wonât update on time.â Or âPerfect, the one I like is being pushed aside by this new stuff.â Remember this semi-hiatus is only temporary. Most of the ideas I have in mind are one shots. And they arenât as intensive as my current works, theyâre a much needed break so I can refocus and collect ideas for the major projects. Iâm not abandoning ANYTHING, NONE of my fics are getting dropped. Iâm just taking a more long term view of things so I can stay in shape.
Iâm deeply sorry if some people donât want to deal with that and jump ship, I completely understand your frustration. I fully expect to lose some readers, much as that pains me. But most importantly I need to do whatâs right for me.
Thereâs a saying, âThe candle that that burns twice as bright burns half as long.â Iâm at that point. I donât want to burn bright with a few good chapters and end up burning myself out before really finishing anything.

Binge-Watching: Gintama, Episodes 230-236
Jesus wept, I think this might have been the most entertaining arc yet. In which we finally go to space, Elizabeth gets her due, and there is too much gloriousness to properly speak of. Also, Kagura is still the fucking best, but you knew that already.
The Dam Breaks
Letâs say youâre a long-running manga series/anime adaptation. You started from a simple premise countless episodes/chapters ago, but since then youâve grown and developed into your own unique flavor of sprawling epic, packed with more depth and nuance than your initial readers had any right to expect. Thereâs no line you wontât cross, no expectation you wonât obliterate. But as you take stock of yourself a couple years down the line, you realize that thereâs still a remnant of your old modus operandi clinging onto your now-much-more-advanced coattails, a character you havenât really figured out what to do with. Youâve pretty much been able to incorporate all of your old plot pieces and characters into your ongoing thrust forward, but thereâs still this guy, who you wrote as a dumb joke way back when, a bit of visual absurdity to enhance the comedic appeal of another characterâs persona. And thatâs been working fine, but you canât help but feel that compared to the depths of pathos everyone else has achieved in the last 200 episodes, this one guy feels a little left behind. So what do you do? How do you rebuild a character who never amounted to much into someone who can stand strong with everything youâve been able to accomplish since then?
Well, if youâre Gintama, you shuffle the character offscreen for some time while you figure out the direction you want them to go in, and then bring them roaring back in as the impetus for one of the most ludicrously entertaining setpieces youâve ever goddamn pulled.
Sweet. Buttery. CHRISTMAS. The Renho Invasion arc is far from the deepest, most profound, or most affecting arc of Gintamaâs run, but itâs easily one of the most giddily inventive, cackle-inducingly bananas, and just overall insanely fun five episode stretches itâs ever achieved. Hell, it might be the most entertaining arc on a pure spectacle level yet. I donât know how thatâs even possible against the likes of the Popularity Poll arc, but by now, Iâve learned to expect the impossible from this show. This had me rolling on the goddamn floor pretty much from the word go and it didnât let up until the bittersweet coda. I loved every single second of its increasingly brazen audacity, enraptured by the spirit of a show that genuinely wanted me to have as much fun watching it as it was having letting itself just go completely off the rails. And yes, as I mentioned before, it also achieves the unexpected task of (sort of) finally making Elizabeth able to stand on his own two feel alongside Sachan, Katsura, Hasegawa, and all the other long-running Gintama mainstays whoâve developed into such rich and textured characters over the years. What else can I say folks? Gintamaâs got another stone-cold classic under its belt.
Mel Brooks Would Be Proud
What really gets me about how illogically entertaining this arc ended up being is how innocuous is starts out. Elizabeth has run away from home, and Katsura canât remember the last time they saw each other. Seems like a simple enough set-up for hijinks, absurd plot turns, flashbacks that even the characters are sick of at this point (âDonât bother setting up the joke!â), and probably a sweet ending about Katsura and Elizabeth reconnecting and realizing how much they care about each other, promising not to take each other for granted again. And then, out of FUCKING nowhere, the old lady in the flashback pulls her freaking face off to reveal the sexy burglar from the OP, calls herself Elizabethâs former lover, and reveals that all this time, our po-faced waddling duck has been the advance party of the Renho, a group of alien mercenaries on the warpath for planets to conquer, and had disguised himself as Katsuraâs pet to infiltrate Earth and set up its eventual conquest. Itâs so out of nowhere that even Shinpachi is completely blindsided: âHow am I supposed to keep up with all these twists?!â But you very quickly realize that Gintama is going to take this nonsense and run with it all the way, as is its want. And to prove that point, who else should it bring back to the fold but freaking Sakamoto, Gintokiâs accident-prone former ally/ awkward laugh dispenser whoâs been sailing the stars doing his alien-outreach thing for upwards of 100 episodes without mention. With the return of a character this central to the showâs greater narrative, Gintama is effectively signaling that itâs time to buckle in, because shit is about to go down.
And go down it does, in one of the most impressively lazy genre rip-offs this show has ever pulled (and thatâs saying something). Thereâs always been a very obvious Imperial March quality to the dramatic music that is used here for the Renhoâs entrance, but between the obvious Death Star knock-off, the text crawl, and freaking âDark Vaderâ, itâs hilarious how little effort went into hiding the Star Wars parody here. But again, by taking this dumb nonsense and running with it all the way, Gintama is able to turn its recreation of A New Hope into one of the most gut-bustingly insane stretches of celluloid in its entire run. Itâs the first time weâve gotten an actual space opera out of this show, full of outsized motivations and starlit battles and all the wonderful genre trappings that inspired George Lucas in the first place, with GIntamaâs sardonic touch never taking away from the sheer childlike glee of watching duck-faced spaceships duke it out against literal goddamn Gundams (âBoth were animated by Sunrise, so thereâll be no infringement. They planned ahead.â). Hell, even something as dumb as âDarth Vader but itâs a dumb duck costumeâ ends up being kind of intimidating when he only communicates through silent signs, his blank face betraying none of the cruelty he so gleefully inflicts upon his enemies. Never mind when he goes full cyborg and start blasting lasers with blood dripping from his twisted eyesockets like something out of a far-out Terminator sequel. This isnât just a funny Spaceballs-esque goof, this is an actual goddamn epic that just happens to have poor Shinpachi being relegated to a pimple and almost sawed in half as a result (âNOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING!!â). And itâs so, so, so much fun.
The Heavens Have Been Pierced
But believe it or not, thatâs just the appetizer. Thatâs only hinting at the heights of insanity this arc reaches. Because then, just as the enemy is seemingly defeated, the truth is revealed: the true mastermind was the Death Star itself all along, a sentient computer program gone rogue and willing to take any measures to drive the Renho clan to conquer the universe after their home planet was destroyed. And for the final battle, it turns itself into a goddamn planet-sized mecha to face off against our heroes. And in response? Sakamotoâs killer right-hand lady reveals the ace sheâs been hiding up her sleeve the entire time: their fleet of merchant vessels can also Voltron itself together into another supermassive combat robot to face off against this galactic-scale threat.
In short, in the final stretch of the Renho invasion arc, it literally freaking turns into Gurren Lagann.
I have perhaps more complicated feelings about Gainaxâs swan song than most (perhaps Iâll re-watch it for this blog at some point down the line? That might make for an interesting time), but the undeniable fact is that when it gets out of its own way and just lets oversized robots beat the snot out of each other, nothing else even comes close in terms of sheer, awe-inspiring spectacle. And this arcâs climax captures the brass balls of that show at its best, throwing caution to the winds and just pitting impossibly large robots against each other in every boyâs toybox fantasies come to life. Hell, Gurren Lagann even had the moon turn out to be a giant alien battleship mecha in disguise for the penultimate climax, and thatâs essentially what this fight feels like here, combined with the âevery hero comes together to control the final mecha form against the bad guysâ conceit of the final battle. And itâs AMAZING. Itâs spectacle on a scale Gintama has never allowed itself before, free to, yes, pierce the heavens with its audacity. No joke, this climax had me wheezing in my seat at times. Like I said before, this is far from the deepest or most profound Gintama arc ever. But itâs got a giant business robot playing hopscotch on missiles to destroy a giant duck planet and delivering the finishing blow by pimple control, and if you canât appreciate that, I donât know what to tell you. This gleeful insanity is the reason I love anime so goddamn much, and I donât need any deeper reason to just lose myself in this sheer, unadulterated joy.
Spirit of the Samurai
That being said, it would be remiss of me to make it seem like thereâs absolutely nothing of substance to chew on in this arc. This is Gintama, after all; even at its most batshit insane, itâs always got something to say. And the refitting of Elizabeth to be a secret insurrectionist in a fascist space military, combined with Sakamotoâs return to the fold, expands the scope of Gintamaâs central theme to fittingly galactic proportions. This showâs always had its sights set on the relationships we form with the people in our lives, and how they can be twisted into something unrecognizable by fear and hatred. This arc takes that concept and spins it into an appropriately melodramatic standoff of national ideals, between the honorable companionship of the samurai and the cold utilitarianism of the Renho clan. To âDark Vaderâ and the computer system that uses him as a figurehead, the Renho people are tools, means to an end. It doesnât matter how many of them die, so long as the species survives and thrives until it conquers the universe. Any and all sacrifices are acceptable. Itâs that system that Elizabethâs been fighting from within to destroy, this callous disregard for human life, the dehumanization as represented, however absurdly, by the homogenous duck costumes (thereâs a reason fascist propoganda tends to emphasize conformity). Yet its sickness still infects his way of thinking, causing him to cut himself off from both of his homes. He doesnât perfectly slot into either of them, so heâd rather make himself a martyr for the cause, fading away with no one remembering his name. Much like his persona in the show up until this point, Elizabethâs wish is to disappear into the background, seeing no other option for them in this war.
And then thereâs GIntoki and Sakamoto, samurai who fought and bled alongside their comrades to carve out a life they could be proud of. Their promise was written in the blood of their fallen comrades, in all the friends theyâve lost and gained: always have each otherâs backs. No one is expendable, and thereâs always another way out. Gintoki has proven that truth time and time again, refusing to give into impossible odds that threaten to tear his new family apart. And Sakamoto shows here that even outside the field of battle, thereâs always a way to turn the situation in your favor, turning the Renho against their overlords by offering them a taste of the freedom thatâs been denied to them for so long. Respect over dismissal. Friendship over lordship. Thatâs the true heart of the samurai, the bushido thatâs driven our heroes to victory time and time again. As long as that light keeps shining bright, the universe will always find a way to set itself right again.
Sayonara, Elizabeth
And itâs this conviction, this unshakable faith thatâs always been at Gintamaâs core, that sets Elizabeth back on the right path. Thereâs always work to be done, always another new trail to blaze, another new future to seek out. The newly liberated Renho need a new leader to carry them into whatever future awaits them. And Elizabeth can find purpose in that leadership, his own personal bushido to carry him down the path of life. Which means, incredibly, itâs time for him and Katsura to bid good-bye. The seemingly one-off joke about Katsura and GIntoki playing Uno in their disguises ends up being the entire emotional crux of the arcâs coda, the means by which Katsura and Elizabeth are finally able to communicate the feelings they were never quite able to before, by which Gintoki and his crew give the new captain a fitting goodbye from the planetâs surface. Like Tama says in an earlier episode, sometimes you really do have to talk to each other to get your emotions across. And good fucking god, when Katsura and Elizabeth are both crying over their Uno cards, I was right there with them. Elizabeth actually made me cry. And as he heads off with his clan into a new future, I know heâs truly earned his place in this showâs pantheon of glory.
At least until itâs all retconned and revealed to just be a temp Elizabeth flying into the sunset. But you know what, this show has earned a troll like that at this point. And it doesnât take away from how utterly fantastic this story turned out to be.
I LOVE THIS GIRL
But before I sign out for the night, thereâs one more thing I have to talk about it. The Renho Invasion arc, as spectacular as it was, wasnât the only storyline in this stretch of episodes. And while I could lavish plenty of praise on the tale of a ghost who mediates his own funeral, and Gintoki and Hijikataâs hilariously po-faced freakouts to his presence (âSorry, I seem to have dislocated my shoulder.â), you all know the real reason Iâm here. After all, it wouldnât be a day on this blog if I didnât get a chance to gush over how completely and utterly Kagura has stolen my heart. So thank you, episode 230, for giving me a chance to do exactly that.
Like Iâve mentioned before, the real key to what makes Kagura tick is that sheâs exactly mature enough to be as emotionally honest as humanly possible while also being exactly childish enough to still be excited at the opportunies she sees around very corner of the world. And when those two sides of her come together, it makes for some of the most spiritually fulfilling moments in Gintamaâs entire goddamn history. So the prospect of her becoming excited over a new cellphone as a way to always be able to share her excitement with the people she cares is just about the most perfect distillation of why I love her so goddamn much as I can imagine. Every single second she was onscreen this episode left me literally squeeing in glee. Like how she and GIntoki use Sadaharu as a medium to talk to each other like the dysfunctional father and daughter they are (âDonât be fooled Kagura. Someone hacked into me.â). Or the sheer joy plastered across her face every time she sends a text. Or the giddiness with which she invades every single aspect of her familyâs lives (âGood morning. Your poop is even smoother today.â). I donât think sheâs ever felt more like a kid before, full of energy and excitement and a desire to share that raw, unfiltered tide of emotion with the people she loves so strongly that she canât resist dragging them along with her. God, even just her angry chubby cheeks are enough to plaster a smile across my face.
But even thatâs not enough. Because as much delight as she takes in sharing her world with everyone else, the true power of this episode comes from how difficult Gintoki and Shinpachi find sharing it back to be. Thereâs nothing more crushing than watching someone making a genuine effort for someone who canât, or wonât, see it. And Kaguraâs pain upon realizing how easily the others would toss their new phones aside, not even bothering to respond to the unfiltered joy sheâs been sending their way, hit me like a ton of bricks. No one deserves to feel that undervalued, least of all the sentient ball of light that is this girl. Which it why itâs so uplifting to see everyone keep the personalized keychains Kagura made them. They donât need phones to get their love across; these dorks have got each other just fine. Like I said, sometimes, you just gotta talk to each other. This kind of companionship and family is something that can never be taken for granted. This is the beating heart and soul that makes this show so goddamn special to me. So thank you, Kagura, for all the sunlight you bring into the lives of everyone around you. You donât know how meaningful it really is.
Odds and Ends
-âWhy am I the mom?! Although, my face is similar!â AND HE JUST ROLLS WITH IT ASKJDHSKDASD
-Gintoki needs to style his hair like that more.
-âAre you coming out of the closet? Are you planning an operation? Can I have yours?â Ten minutes in and this show has already slain me once again. Kyubei, youâre the fucking best.
-âMy balls are so high!â âItâs amazing how wrong his texts can sound!â You said it, Shinpachi.
-âDonât worry, weâll be holding a funeral for you soon enough.â I donât think thatâs the issue here, Okita.
-#GhostMusclesAreMyFetish2018
-âRespect, Yo!â Kagura. Please. My heart canât take this.
-âIn Shinpachiâs case, his glasses are his soul!â Wow, rude.
-âHeâs making soba out of their souls!â What an oddly refined murderous ghost.
-Murderous old lady win!
_âDonât believe in yourself, believe in the dick! Believe in the dick that believes in you!â -Gintoki, probably
-âNo, total strangers would probably laugh until they cry.â Well, youâre not wrong.
-âTennyâsâ SURE.
-âItâs not Zura, itâs Katsura.â âUm, no one said anything.â Heâs such a drama queen oh my GOD
-âYou picked the worst time to take a dump.â askjdahsdkjash why
-âOh, thatâs how the catapult works.â fucking rip
-âYou were just as fast when you moved in for the upskirt!â I hope we see more of Fumiko in the near future, because her easy sexual teasing with everybody on the cast is such a perfect distillation of how completely Gintama kicks tired tropes in the face. Also, she literally squirted on the Death Star, so your complaints are all invalid.
-âWhat space? All I see is a forest.â Kagura confirmed bisexual
-âDonât waste it for the sake of a joke.â This arc is entirely too meta for its own good. Ah, what am I saying, of course Iâm loving it.
-âCan you stop ruining this moment?â But I repeat myself
-âWe combined out stupidity!â And I wouldnât have it any other way.
God, I love this show. See you all next time!

Summary: Danny Fenton was a simple, sixteen-year-old teenager who loved fast food, video games, and getting a B on surprise pop quizzes. Heâs also the half-ghost teenage hero Danny Phantom who defends Amity Park from ghost attacks on a daily basis. Somehow, the ghost attacks make a lot more sense than crushes, friendships, and falling in love with someone he is definitely not supposed to be falling in love with. It was a lot easier to separate Phantom and Fenton before, but now itâs getting harder the more he learns about himself. Just who was he? The dorky son of scientists who loved the stars or the hero that protected the town. Heâs starting to feel like he wonât like the answer. Chapter Five
::
âI still canât believe Vlad bought this place out.â It wasnât that Danny hated Axion Labs or anything, but after dealing with the ghost of a dead puppy they put down, it was kind of hard to bring himself to like them any. âI mean, what is he up to?â
âYou know, Iâd really like to have a day where you didnât become your parents and get paranoid about ghosts and their plans. You realize you sound like your dad, right?â Sam was looking utterly unapologetic at the lies that were coming out of her mouth. âAll your missing is the orange jumpsuit.â
âDidnât he give you one as a Christmas present, this year?â Traitors. Dannyâs best friends and closest confidants were traitors. âYou should wear it for Halloween next year. You can go as a ghost hunter.â
âIsnât the point of Halloween to go as something Iâm not?â Danny might not be a ghost hunter like his parents or the Guys-in-White or anything, but, come on. He protected the town and caught ghosts for not even a living. He was a ghost hunter. âSeriously, though. You guys know Vlad is probably using this place to run some secret experiments on ghosts or something like that.â
It wouldnât surprise him if the man was. Vlad was rich and powerful and all that shit, but he was also an insane fruit loop who seemed to think he could do whatever he wanted and get away with it. Now, suddenly, they were visiting Axion Labs on a school field trip? Suddenly it was Dannyâs class that was there? That reeked of suspicion. âI just have a bad feeling about this.â
âA Fenton with a bad feeling? Should I be worrying about any ghost attacks?â Startling at the words more than anything else, Danny looked over to see Valerieâs dad.
âOh, hey, look, I think one of our classmates wants to ask us something.â Sam, the heartless traitor, grabbed Tucker by the hand and left Danny to what was probably going to be the most awkward and threatening talk by an adult heâd ever had as a human.
âHa- Ha! Hey there, Mr. Gray!â Danny swallowed and tried to calm himself down. He had faced far worse things than a protective dad, after all, right? âWhat, uh, what can I do for you? Sir?â
âIâve noticed that you and my daughter have been spending more time together, lately.â Oh, god, please, no. âI just wanted to make sure I donât have to worry about any funny business.â
âOh, uh, no- No. Weâre just- Weâre still just friends, and stuff, and-â Danny snapped his mouth shut as the man raised a hand.
âI meant ghost wise.â Oh, man, that was even worse. âValerieâs had a hard time with the ghosts that attack Amity Park, especially when they cost me my job at one point in my life. I donât want any of that Fenton ghost business to interfere with her life.â
âTrust me, sir, weâre totally on the same page about ghost business and it not affecting Valerie.â The last thing Danny wanted was to deal with the Red Huntress again. Like, okay, he could understand why Valerie had started the whole ghost hunting thing, but things were finally settling down! In fact, Danny was almost certain that her dad had taken away her suit, which meant way less worry for him.
Plus, Danny was getting better control of his powers, the ghosts were becoming less of a danger, and Danny knew that he could finally keep his friends and family safe without having to worry about them getting hurt by all of this. Things were good, so he wasnât too worried about Valerie running off to pick a fight where there wasnât one.
âI promise you, sir, Iâll be keeping the ghost stuff away from her as far as I possibly can.â Valerieâs father seemed to study him and look him up and down for a moment before patting his shoulder.
âYouâre a good kid, Danny. I hope I see more of you around.â Huh. That sounded like he just got roundabout approval to date Valerie. Did he just get roundabout approval to date Valerie? It sounded like her father just gave him approval to date her. That- Okay. Cool. That was cool.
âRight, er, yes- Yes, sir!â The man walked away to probably go continue doing his work, Danny staring after him for a moment before shaking his head and alright, that had certainly been something. Danny couldnât help but mutter a little âweirdâ under his breath as he looked around to see where the rest of the class had gotten off to.
It was actually kind of cool to explore Axion Labs and see all the science and stuff they were up to, especially considering they were working on space exploration lately, but Danny couldnât even enjoy himself. Who knew what Vlad was using this research for.
âHey, Danny! They got this cool jetpack rocket thing over here!â Looking around quickly, and spotting where Tucker was waiting, Dannyâs eyes widened at just what he was talking about and that was so cool.
Danny managed to enjoy himself for almost an hour as they got into the science behind their space research, but of course this was Danny and his life could never be enjoyed for very long before his worries came speeding back at full force.
They were just starting to head to another section of the building, which was shaping up to be just as sleek and shiny as the rest of it, when Danny felt Sam grab his wrist and pull off into a corner between two large databanks. âAre we about to have some movie moment where you tell me someone is following us?â Even as he joked, Danny was already scanning around them. He hadnât noticed anything strange, and there didnât seem to be anyone paying them attention. Mostly it was tired security guards and even more exhausted scientists. Â
âWhat? No. Your life isnât a movie, Danny.â Hey, now. âIf anything, itâs a Saturday morning cartoon with a poorly contrived plot and even poorer writing.â Hey. âNo, look, you just- You need to be careful around Valerie.â
âCâmon, Sammy, not this again.â Danny groaned as he scrubbed his hands down his face, shaking his head. âSammy, I thought we got over the whole jealous thing- Ow.â Clutching at his right arm where he was very solidly punched, Danny pouted at a completely unapologetic Sam.
âYou deserved that and you know it.â Yeah, he totally did. âYou know Iâm not jealous. Unless you want to have that very uncomfortable talk about feelings and emotions, again?â
âUgh, no thanks.â Having one âWeâre just friends, so I guess we can finally stop crushing on each other and please letâs not make this awkward!â talk was enough for one lifetime and all the ones after that. God. That had been such a long conversation and Danny was beyond grateful that both he and Sam had made a pact to never mention the tears shed by both of them that night. âSorry. Still, I mean, come on. Sheâs not that bad.â
âThatâs not what Iâm worried about.â Sam crossed her arms and rubbed at the skin where goosebumps were rising, Danny frowning. It wasnât that cold in here. âShe just⌠She really hates ghosts, Danny. She really, really hates ghosts. If she ever found out about you-â
âWhich she wonât.â Danny knew the price of his secrets and they were ones he wouldnât be telling anyone. Enough people knew who he was, and he knew that if the ghosts knew just how big of a wreck they could make his life, then they would tell the whole town with no hesitation. He was honestly surprised Spectra or Walker hadnât tried that, yet. âItâll be fine, Sammy.â
âWill it?â Oh, jeez. Danny hadnât thought Sam would get so worried about all of this. Glancing around to make sure no one had noticed they were missing, Danny stepped forward to pull Sam into a tight hug. âI donât want anything to happen to you. It takes work to find new friends, you know.â
âAnd we all know how much you hate putting effort in being social.â Danny laughed at the swat to his side even as Sam hugged him back. âI get it, Sammy. Just⌠trust me, okay?â
âYou sure? You tend to get a bit stupid around the people you like.â Yeah, well, that was true, but there were limits when it came to being a little bit stupid. âIt looks like youâre really starting to like her, Danny.â
âItâll be fine.â The ghosts werenât that much of a threat, Danny was getting more control over his powers, and Valerie didnât seem to hate ghosts as much as she used to. It wasnât perfect, but things would be okay.
::
He was an idiot. Danny was an idiot. Trust me, he had said. Itâll be okay, he had said. He had told Sam, and then eventually Tucker, that things were fine, that he and Valerie were okay, and this was fine. It had been going great, and then Danny had forgotten that he was the half-ghost little freak that wasnât allowed to have life be good to him.
It hadnât even been a week before everything had gone to shit. Now Danny could only stare at his hands as he panted harshly through the stale air of his bedroom and tried to figure out where it had all gone so wrong. It had been going so well in the beginning.
He and Valerie had been getting closer and spending more time together and Danny had started to believe that something was really there for them. He had overheard her that one day and Valerie had been willing to give up ghost hunting for him, and then fucking Technus had come in and ruined everything-
No⌠No, Technus hadnât ruined things. He had just been the one to show Danny how wrong he was about all of it. It was one of the tougher fights he had been in lately, and they had all ended up fighting in space. He didnât even have a chance to enjoy it because he had been trying to destroy that stupid satellite that could have ruined so much, and he ended up fighting both of them and he had almost-
He had hurt her. He had hurt her. He hadnât even thought about it, before, but just how much power did he have? Was he supposed to be this powerful? None of the other ghosts were ever really a huge threat to him anymore, so just how much of a threat was he?
Ha, well, he already knew the answer to that one, didnât he? He had seen how much of a threat he could become. Just because he was no longer going to become destroy-the-world evil didnât mean he still wouldnât have the power Dan did. Fuck, he had power now that Dan didnât have until years later. He had defeated Dan when no one else in the world could. That⌠What did that mean for him?
âDanny?â Quiet knocking on the door startled him out of his thoughts, Danny swallowing as he heard Jazzâs soft voice. âYou in there? Sam and Tucker texted me. They thought that maybe you would want to talk?â
Unable to even think of anything he could say, Danny instead wrapped his arms around himself. For as much as he loved his sister, she couldnât help with something like this. God, and the only âghost therapistâ was fucking Spectra. No doubt sheâd get a kick out of all of this when they next met.
The freak who couldnât control his powers. The little weird child who didnât know where he belonged. Collapsing back onto his bed, Danny stared up at the glow-in-the-dark stars that barely glowed anymore, the edges becoming blurred and undefined in the darkness of his room as the sun really began to set.
âStupid.â He finally got up into space and he didnât even get to enjoy it. There was a peaceful quiet in his room that lasted for a wonderful thirty seconds.
âDanny? Are you even in there?â Throwing his hands over his face, Danny stared at the backs of his eyelids for what felt like an eternity before he was triggering his transformation into his ghost half. âDanny! I know I just heard you change! I can see the light coming out from under your door, young man!â
Just as the door began to open, Danny triggered his intangibility, falling through the floors and ceilings until he was in the basement. The lights were off since his parents werenât there at the moment, but that just meant it was lit up only by the active ghost portal which⌠was sort of amazing.
Setting his fingertips against the energy, Danny frowned as he almost felt like he was being pulled towards the portal. âIâm not that much of a ghost.â Great. He was talking to thin air. Again. âMight be more of one than I thought, though.â
Pressing both palms up against whatever the Ghost Zone was really made of, Danny breathed out slowly as he glanced upstairs at the sound of Jazzâs heavy footfalls. He just⌠Heâd talk to her later, but right now he needed someone who wouldnât have an opinion about all of this.
âDoors are always open, huh?â It hadnât been too long since he had last been there, but⌠Maybe Ghostwriter wouldnât mind a friendly chat?
It was better than thinking about how heâd always grow up to be Dan, in some way. He didnât want to think about that.
No. Right now a chat with a ghost who didnât hate him sounded perfect.

The Best TV Shows of 2020
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Some year, eh?Â
Weâre often poetic about TV around these parts. Itâs no secret that we like to sing its praises as a powerful, restorative, and maybe sometimes therapeutic medium. But during a dangerous, confusing year, delving into the many ways that TV âkept us saneâ or whatever feels reductive.Â
What we can say, however, is this: TV was around this year. And thatâs no small feat as not every other medium was so lucky. Concerts and other live performances were canceled. The movie-going experience was upended (perhaps permanently), and even curling up with a nice book at a coffee shop was no longer an option for much of the year. The TV production schedule may have been disrupted, but for the most part, the television machine chugged along, providing us with a diverse (and often overwhelming) number of truly excellent options to take in.
This year we want to honor the best of those TV shows â not for any particular reason other than that itâs fun to do and weâve all earned some year-end distractions. We had our staff vote on their favorite series, polled you the reader as well, then crunched all the numbers in an intensely complicated propriety equation (not really) to determine our winners.Â
Please enjoy our choices for the 25 Best TV Shows of 2020.Â
25. How To with John Wilson
How To with John Wilson is the heir to Nathan For Youâs throne, which seems obvious considering the series boasts Nathan Fielder as an executive producer, but the new HBO series shares much of the fiercely beloved former Comedy Central seriesâ DNA. While Nathan For You used helping businesses as a jumping off point to explore social interactions and the funny, insane things that people may say or do if you point a camera in their face, How To with John Wilson purports to explain how to perform simple tasks like making small talk or splitting a check, but mostly showcases how beautiful, ugly, life-affirming, and odd life in New York City can be. Itâs a difficult show to explain, but it uses dry narration and quick documentary-style footage to create laugh out loud set-ups and punchlines, and digresses into some of the most poignant, and âWTFâ moments found in a comedy series. You may not learn much, but youâll laugh a lot.Â
â Nick Harley
24. The Plot Against America
TV writing geniuses David Simon and Ed Burns (The Wire, The Deuce) are masters of subtlety. Their many shows, several of which are among the best in TV history, know how to conquer small moments en route to a bigger, oft devastating picture. During these very unsubtle times then, how could they possibly adapt Philip Rothâs equally unsubtle book about creeping fascism in America, The Plot Against America? The answer, as it turns out, is with the same gentle touch and keen understanding of the human condition as they always employ.
Like Rothâs 2004 novel, The Plot Against America picks up in an alternate version of the American 1940s, where real life aviation hero and Nazi-sympathizing populist Charles Lindbergh is elected president. The show then follows the working class Jewish Levin family as they deal with the fallout. Simon and Burnsâ subtle touch works uncommonly well here. The Plot Against Americaâs six episodes are in many ways about how gradually and imperceptibly things can get worse until oneâs home is no longer recognizable. For obvious reasons, the series resonated this year but its ability to summon creeping dread would have played well just about any time.Â

23. Lovecraft Country
A sprawling anthology with an overarching fable set in the depths of Jim Crow America in the 1950s, Lovecraft Country was an epic, political, sometimes gory, always ambitious sci-fi horror unlike anything else in 2020. Following the journey of Atticus (Jonathan Majors), Leti (Jurnee Smollett), and Atticusâs uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) on a mission to find Atticusâs missing father, the story combines real life racist horror with supernatural creatures inspired by H.P. Lovecraft.
Each episode is both a standalone story and part of the whole, playing with different subgenres. Ep 3 âHoly Ghostâ is a classic haunted house tale with a historical twist against a backdrop of neighborhood racism, ep 5 âA Strange Caseâ is an extraordinary body horror which explores the female experience, 6 âMeet Me in Daeguâ introduces a character from Korean folklore, while ep 8 âI Amâ is a sprawling afrofuturist sci-fi. Created by Misha Green, exec produced by Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams, this is glossy cinematic stuff with a terrific ensemble cast. Talk about bang for your buck.
â Rosie Fletcher
22. His Dark Materials
If season one of this fantasy adaptation was carefully laying the tracks, then season two is hurtling along them, whooping out of the window as it goes. The new episodes started from the high-point of the season one finale and kept climbing. The difference is in tone â this time itâs warmer, keying more successfully into its charactersâ emotional lives. Itâs bolder too, demonstrating confidence by stepping away from the books to add scenes, humor and modern updates as required.
Season two, adapted from the second book in Philip Pullmanâs original trilogy, sees Lyra and Will cross worlds and forge a bond. Will undertakes his own heroâs journey, one involving Spectres, a magical knife and the father heâd long thought dead. The real star though, is Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter, a devilishly complex character into whose head this show is satisfyingly determined to get.Â
Season two is an episode short, thanks to COVID-19, but we should be grateful it made it here on time at all. The real delight is all the talent and effort thatâs gone into telling such a weird story, one that only gets weirder from hereon inâŚ
â Louisa Mellor
21. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Season 5 of She-Ra was the show at its absolute best. Every restriction seemed to be lifted and it just let loose with all the joy, deepness, and big queer energy it had ever wanted to display. Bless it for that because it allowed the show to go out on the highest of notes. Weâd be here all day if we listed all the fantastic plots this season and how everyone got a chance to shine but no moment stands out more than Catra and Adora kissing.Â
Itâs a moment queer fans had hoped for and were shocked it actually happened. Seeing two leads in a legacy property get to be not only confirmed queer but also kiss is still a rare sight and we can only hope it signals great change in animation going forward. Weâre sad to see She-Ra go but glad it got to end so perfectly.Â
â Shamus Kelley
20. Pen15Â
During the 2011 âMiddle Schoolâ episode of This American Life, host Ira Glass interviews producer Alex Blumberg, who presents a radical new approach to education in America: get rid of middle school. Childrenâs bodies and brains are just simply too volatile in their preteen years to meaningfully learn anything in the years between elementary school and high school. Give them a break, then pick up and try again in a couple years.
Itâs hard not to think of that interview when watching Huluâs wonderful middle school comedy Pen15. Lead characters Maya (Maya Erskine) and Anna (Anna Konkle) are very rarely seen learning something in class or poring over their homework. And why would they be? There are boys to obsess over, school plays to audition for, and moments that will scar them forever to experience.Â
Rarely has there ever been a more frank, honest, and hilarious exploration of the middle school years than Pen15. Much was made during the showâs first season about the adult Konkle and Erskineâs ability to portray their younger selves. And in season 2, they blend in so seamlessly that the novelty of the casting choice might never even occur to the viewer.Â
â Alec Bojalad
19. I Hate Suzie
The last time playwright Lucy Prebble wrote a TV series for Billie Piper, it was 2007âs Secret Diary of a Call Girl. London-set, glamorous, sexy and funny, that was a distinctly twentysomething story. Over a decade later, Prebble and Piper reunited to do something different in I Hate Suzie; still funny, but rawer, more experimental, and probing all the ways that a thirtysomething womanâs identity â wife, mother, and in this case, celebrity â can be defined by everything except herself.Â
Piper plays popstar-turned actor Suzie, whose life explodes when hacked photos of her cheating on her husband leak online. Suzie goes through the stages of grief in eight riotous half-hour episodes that experiment with form and genre. Thereâs drama. Thereâs satire. Thereâs singing and dancing. Thereâs Dexter Fletcher doing coke off a bare arse, and a whole-episode wank that explores the societal construction of female desire. It is, in modern parlance, a lot, in the most exhilarating and enriching way. These two had better not leave it another 10 years until their next collaboration. We demand more.Â
â Louisa MellorÂ
18. Rick and Morty
Did you hear? This guy turns himself into a pickleâŚa PICKLE! Itâs wild. Every subsequent year that Rick and Morty airs, it gets harder to separate the âmemeâ of Rick and Morty from the show itself. Suppose thatâs just what happens when a fanbase proves itself to beâŚuh, energetic, and the Merchandising Industrial Complex kicks itself into overdrive to produce some truly offensively bad Big Dog-style shirts.Â
Removed from the meta of it all, Rick and Morty still churned out some great episodes of television in 2020. The back half of the seriesâ two-part season 4 all aired this year and there were real gems included among them. Though it proved to be divisive, âNever Ricking Mortyâ was certainly among the most structurally ambitious installments the show has ever attempted. Then there was just the sublimely hilarious âThe Vat of Acid Episode,â which was enough to earn the show a Best Animated Series Emmy.Â
â Alec Bojalad
17. Dark
Dark is already notable for reaching levels of popularity in the United States not often enjoyed by subtitled fare, but it also was afforded the rare opportunity to end on its own terms with its third season in 2020. Audiences fell in love with the generational stories of the families living around the nuclear power plant in Winden, Germany, marveling at casting choices for characters in their older or younger forms whose resemblances were spot on.
The time travel plot tied viewersâ brains into knots, but the desire to see an end to the apocalypse was made even deeper by the strong chemistry between Darkâs own Adam and Eve: Jonas and Martha. As the true source of the alternate timelines and causal loops became known, everything about the showâs reality was called into question, but the ending left a lingering question mark to entice fans to speculate long after the show had ended.Â
â Michael Ahr
16. The Untamed
While The Untamed technically premiered in 2019, the Chinese xianxia drama was one of the escapist stories that most defined a year we all wanted to get as far away from as possible. Bursting onto the transformative fandom scene to come in ninth on Tumblrâs list of the most-discussed live action TV shows of 2020, the foreign-language fantasy series tells the story of supernatural flautist Wei Wuixan (Xiao Zhan) from his humble beginnings as a teen cultivator-in-training to his controversial role as a demonic cultivator war hero to his time as a masked detective after he is mysteriously brought back to life in a strangerâs body 13 years after his gruesome death.Â
But, like any good melodrama, The Untamed is really all about the relationships. This is a complex emotional story about siblings and sects, honor and morality. At the heart of the interpersonal narrative is the epic romance between Wei Wuixan and his stoic swordsman boyfriend Lan Wangji (Wang Yibo). The Untamed is adapted from an explicitly queer web novel, but Chinaâs anti-LGBTQ censorship laws require the series tell its love story via lingering gazes, clasped wrists, and declarations of undying devotion. The result is no less queer, as these canonical soulmates sacrifice everything but their fervid commitment to protect the innocent for one another.Â
â Kayti Burt
15. The Haunting of Bly Manor
In 2018, Netflix shrieked its way into the spooky season game with the breakout hit The Haunting of Hill House. The streamer then afforded creator Mike Flanagan the opportunity to American Horror Story-ize his work into an anthology of his own, thus The Haunting series was born. In typical second child fashion, The Haunting of Bly Manor had a world of expectations to live up to, which included its often-adapted source material, primarily the novella Turn of The Screw by Henry James (or Hank Jim as we like to call him) among two other works. Flanagan, whoâs a heavyweight in the horror genre at this point, again eschewed a direct remake for a loose adaptation with Bly Manor, a slow burn, but ultimately a deeply personal and satisfying tale of ghosts, both of the faced and faceless variety, intertwined with Gothic romance.
The returning players from the previous season, Victoria Pedretti (Dani), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Peter Quint), Henry Thomas (Henry Wingrave), Carla Gugino (The Storyteller), and Kate Siegel (a surprise character in an excellent episode 8), bring back some of the winning chemistry from Hill House. However itâs the newcomers to the series, TâNia Miller as Hannah Grose the housekeeper, Amelia Eve as Jamie the gardener, and Rahul Kohli as Owen the cook, whose standout performances ground Flanaganâs headier concepts, like the seriesâ mesmerizing fifth episode. Itâs through these characters that Bly Manor poignantly articulates how love can be as much of a burden as it is a blessing. Not long after your Bly Manor binge is complete, Floraâs line, âYou said it was a ghost story. It isnât. Itâs a love story,â will crystallize the throughline Flanagan was gunning for. And if that line isnât a lasting memory of the limited series, perhaps itâs Owenâs lucious mustache, the best on TV in 2020, that will live on.Â

14. Ted Lasso
In a relentlessly dark year, Ted Lasso was one of the few rays of sunshine that warmed our hearts. Its title character is so pleasant and optimistic, he makes Leslie Knope look like a curmudgeon by comparison. Folksy, thoughtful, and almost aggressively friendly, Jason Sudeikisâs Lasso is hired to lead a struggling English Premier League team in a move of sabotage, but ends up charming the pants off of the squad and proving the power of positivity.Â
The character is practically impossible not to like, and in a time of so much anxiety and frustration, itâs refreshing to spend time with someone like Ted. The title coach isnât the only reason to watch; the show features well-crafted characters with satisfying individual arcs, comforting, yet well-executed sports movie tropes, and funny fish out of water culture clash moments. Ted Lasso is a breezy, low-effort experience that makes you feel good. What more could you ask for in 2020?Â

13. The Umbrella Academy
The first season of The Umbrella Academy was already a stellar achievement in adapting the gloriously weird Gerard Way/Gabriel BĂĄ graphic novels, but season 2 took the show to another level in 2020. The varied reactions of the superpowered family to being stranded in 1960s Dallas were extremely enlightening and made the characters even more enjoyable with all of their quirks, flaws, and emotional depth.
Of particular interest was the manner in which Allison strove to lead a normal life with a husband that loved her despite the difficulties of being Black in the segregated South and her determination not to use her powers. Fan favorite character Ben also received a noble and inspiring arc that led to a completely new role for him in season 3. Although there are plenty of mysteries remaining, the unfolding backstory leaves us always wanting more of The Umbrella Academy.Â
â Michael Ahr
12. The Great
âRussia must be saved, and I with it.â An occasionally true story from The Favourite co-screenwriter Tony McNamara, The Great is a satirical look at the rise of Russian monarch Catherine the Great (Elle Fanning, getting a chance to show off her comedic chops), from her arrival from Prussia as a naive teen bride to her time plotting the death of her husband, Emperor Peter III (Nicholas Hoult, seemingly having the time of his career). The Great is cutting, clever, and hilarious, but, like The Favourite before it, its true secret weapon lies in its moments of earnest emotion.Â
The Hulu series revels in the often absurd nature of its subject matter, but not at the cost of ignoring the trauma and joys of its often gruesome world. The unpredictability of which kind of scene you will get nextâabsurd, deeply emotional, or bothâcreates a fantastic dramatic tension that sustains throughout the entire 10-episode first season, perhaps necessary in a story that, should it follow the broadest of historical strokes, the viewer knows will end in Catherineâs triumph. Huzzah!Â
â Kayti Burt
11. Harley Quinn
This year, we found out the answer to a question that no one was really asking â âwho would win: a big budget Birds of Prey DC spinoff movie starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, or one small Harley Quinn-focused animated series that was seemingly about to be left for dead on the ailing DC Universe streaming service?â Harley Quinn won, for everyone who cared to investigate, as the show leveled up in season 2 by having the balls to let Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel fall in love with her sardonic roommate Poison Ivy on screen and ditch any lingering feelings she had for the Joker, but for those not invested in the romance (they should go have a soup and rethink their priorities) there was so much else going on beyond deconstructing its central character.
Animated shows are typically seen as an immature, lesser form of entertainment than live-action series, but just imagining the creativity youâd need to come up with this many running jokes, in-jokes and meta jokes for the larger-than-life characters of Gotham is exhausting. Thereâs so much writing talent behind Harley Quinn that a third season wasnât just expected, but demanded. And indeed, Harley Quinn will live on at HBO Max, but if it hadnât happened, weâd do what the Doctor ordered and RIOT.Â

10. BoJack Horseman
Through its superb six-season run, BoJack Horsemanâs tonal brilliance came to be an expected fact of life. Early on, it was tempting to pull non-viewers aside, shake their shoulders, and yell in their face âNo, you donât get it! Itâs an animated comedy about a horse that was a â90s sitcom, yes, but itâs also a searing exploration of depression, dysfunction, and the dismal nature of the human condition!â Itâs to the showâs eternal credit that that stellar comedic/dramatic tightrope act became all but a given a few seasons in and the world adjusted to it thusly. But even with that level of familiarity and comfort, itâs jarring just how well the show pulls off that delicate formula in its final, and perhaps best season.Â
BoJack Horseman season 6 premiered eight of its final 16 episodes in 2020âs first month and their dramatic resonance carried through the rest of the year. The story ends here as we always expected it might. BoJackâs past finally catches up to him, and when he becomes a pop culture pariah, he slowly begins to undo whatever progress he made throughout the series, culminating in a stunning penultimate episode where BoJack faces the infinite and meets up with all the figures in his life who died along the way. But itâs not until the showâs very end where the message comes into clear focus. BoJack has to start all over again, just like we all must from time to time. The difference this time is that the other people in his life are finally prepared to move onâŚpossibly without him. âHey, wouldnât it be funny if this night was the last time we ever talked to each other?â BoJack says to Diane as they look up at the Hollywood night sky. Wouldnât it be funny indeed.Â

9. Legends of Tomorrow
There is no superhero TV show that has strayed as far from its superheroic roots than Legends of Tomorrow. Despite the fact that its full official title is quick to point out that this is indeed DCâs Legends of Tomorrow, youâd be hard pressed to find a DC show less overtly concerned about its comic book roots, or even with any synergistic responsibilities it may have to the other DC shows in its orbit. Sure, Supergirl, Black Lightning, The Flash, and Stargirl are great, and theyâre note perfect representations of what makes those characters special, but Legends does everything those other shows do, but with far less recognizable characters, with far more laughs, and an effortlessly perfect ensemble cast boasting chemistry for days.  Â
No matter how high the reality-altering stakes, it all seems less important than watching the friendships between this crew of superheroic time traveling misfits. Legends of Tomorrow is everything good and hopeful and pure (ok, wellâŚmaybe not pure, especially where Matt Ryanâs John Constantine is concerned) about superhero shows without any of the baggage, and often without the superheroics. Always hilarious and often surprisingly touching, thereâs not a single superhero team on the big or small screen that youâd rather actually hang out with. You donât have to love superhero TV to love Legends, you just have to love TV.Â
â Mike Cecchini
8. Schittâs Creek
People who love Schittâs Creek LOVE Schittâs Creek. Itâs almost become cult-like in its following, so the arrival of the sixth and final season felt like an event and the end of a journey not just for fans of the show but the stars themselves. Season six isnât the best season of Schittâs â it leans into the schmaltz and sentiment heavily and throws realism to the wind in favor of the absurd but if youâve come this far with the displaced Rose family and the sometimes odd but overall endearing residents of Schittâs Creek, you wonât be disappointed.Â
All the major players get their arc. Alexis and Tedâs separation is heartbreaking, Moiraâs Crows movie premiere is a hilarious mess, some of the Jazzagals almost join a cult⌠the season is packed with ridiculous scenarios in between many more moments of genuine sweetness as it gently guides its characters to an end. The finale comes together with Davidâs wedding to Patrick â a perfectly idiosyncratic affair in the Schittâs Creek town hall. Itâs a moving send off to which weâre all invited.Â
This is a show about family and community, created by a real family â father and son Eugene and Daniel Levy (sister Sarah plays Twyla) â that spawned a community of fans. This might be the end of Schittâs Creek but we can always re-visit.Â
â Rosie Fletcher
7. Devs
Alex Garlandâs unsettling, yet visually gorgeous science-fiction parables are always thought-provoking, but FXâs Devs asks bigger questions than any of the writer/directors previous projects. Do we determine our own fates? Does the multiverse exist? Can computers predict our future? Devs isnât just heady techno-philosophical musings, it spends its runtime being a pretty satisfying corporate thriller, with our protagonist Lily (Sonoya Mizuno) investigating the mysterious disappearance of her boyfriend.
This is a somewhat scathing indictment on Silicon Valley culture, with a Google-esque tech company operating with unmatched power in the shadows. Featuring a moving dramatic performance from Nick Offerman and a star-making turn from Sonoya Mizuno, Devs is just as pretty, existentially threatening, and hard sci-fi as Garlandâs beloved films Ex Machina and Annihilation. If you love thrillers, but are also interested in Quantum Theory, this was the limited series youâd been waiting for in 2020.

6. The Mandalorian (READERSâ CHOICE)
Starting with its first season and extending into its improved second, The Mandalorian just works. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoniâs creation about the galaxyâs most beloved bounty hunter dad is the kind of forward-thinking Star Wars project that works perfectly on a streaming platform.Â
If youâre a massive Star Wars nerd, The Mandalorian continues to provide plenty of Easter eggs and callbacks for you, but the show excels at being both a fun reentry point for fans fatigued with the sequels and prequels, and a standalone adventure series for viewers who donât have much knowledge of Star Wars at all, deftly creating a string of sidequests in a galaxy far, far away that put you firmly in the beautiful Lone Wolf and Cub-like tale of Mando and Grogu as they fly toward an unknown future.
As we recently learned, there will come a time in the next few years when we will be simply drowning in Star Wars TV series, as ten(!) of them are in development, but for now, we get to really savor the intricate worldbuilding going on in The Mandalorian.
This is the way.Â
â Kirsten Howard
5. The Boys
The Boys was a breakout hit when it first landed on Amazonâs streaming service, but when the series returned, there was a bit of a backlash from fans of the show who were enraged that some of its new episodes would arrive weekly, unlike the binge-ready first season. Luckily, Season 2 had so many âwhat the fuckâ moments in store that the griping soon quietened down, and the show eventually found its stride again after a slow start. Our diabolical, supe-fighting team led by a rather distracted Billy Butcher dealt with one bonkers revelation about Vought International after another this season, while the Supes themselves battled with their own humanity, and both groups often found common ground where they least expected it.Â
Itâs really hard to pick a favorite moment from Season 2, but if youâve forgotten how out there it was, let us present a wild bouquet that includes âHomelander angrily wanking over the city in the form of his own demented Bat-Signalâ, âThe Seven filming a very (very) thinly-veiled Zack Snyder-esque superhero movie that had undergone a Joss Whedon rewriteâ, âa massive-dicked supe-in-captivity called Love Sausageâ, and âa timid child getting confidently pushed off the roof of a house by his own beaming fatherâ. And thatâs without bringing up the whole âimmortal Naziâ stuff that occasionally propelled the narrative into Verhoeven-level satirical territory.
There were things that didnt work about Season 2, and we can argue about them forever, but thereâs one thing that everyone can agree on: if Antony Starr doesnât get two armfuls of awards for his performance as Homelander, a fucking travesty has occurred.Â
â Kirsten Howard
4. I May Destroy You
On a night out while writing the second series of her acclaimed sitcom Chewing Gum, Michaela Coel was drugged and sexually assaulted by strangers. What she did with that experience â alchemizing it into a wise and fearless TV drama about trauma and survival â was extraordinary.Â
I May Destroy You is an extraordinary series. In it, Coel plays Arabella, a young writer also drugged and raped on a night out, while under pressure from publishers to follow up her hit book debut. With long-ranging flashbacks, the story moves through the next year in Bellaâs life. We see her draw power from her new identity as a survivor and (often clumsily) navigate close friendships and new sexual relationships. She strays from likeability, changing in response to what happened, and in a transcendent, experimental finale, teaches herself how to live.
Coel is a bewitching lead with excellent support from Weruche Opia and Paapa Essiedu as Bellaâs friends Terry and Kwame. This is no dreary misery memoir. Itâs surprising, confrontational, often funny and always buzzing with life â a frank and much needed course correction for telling this kind of story on screen.

3. What We Do in the Shadows
Over the past decade of television, weâve come to expect a lot out of our TV comedies. Since the Emmy Awards now categorize just about anything thatâs 30 minutes long as comedy, the genre is now home to things like shockingly dramatic coming of age tales, intensely personal narratives, and experimental structures. This evolving of the half hour format is a welcome one. At the same time, however, sometimes you just want to laugh.
Enter What We Do in the Shadows. In its remarkable 10-episode second season, this FX adaptation of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititiâs movie of the same name made a serious case for itself as the funniest show on television. And it did so in shockingly simple fashion. In season 2, the character list remains short: just Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Guillermo (Harvey Guillen), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) make up the showâs cast of characters for the most part (give or take a Mark Hamill or Nick Kroll). And thatâs all they need.Â
This year, the writers and performers all operate at the top of their game to make every possible plotline work and every character pairing sing. The comedic energy is top notch from the seasonâs opening âResurrectionâ episode through midseason classics âColinâs Promotionâ and âOn The Runâ and all the way to the finale âNouveau ThÊâtre des Vampires.â
â Alec Bojalad
2. Better Call Saul
The penultimate season of Better Call Saul was an absolutely brilliant run of episodes that perfectly set the stage for a climactic conclusion that looks to be every bit as heart-wrenching and explosive as the final season of parent series Breaking Bad. The show successfully introduced Lalo, perhaps the most charismatic and terrifying villain in Vince Gilliganâs Albuquerque, and merged the seriesâ seemingly disparate storylines by bringing fan-favorite Kim Wexler closer to the dangerous dealings of the cartel. Â
It turns out that Jimmy becoming Saul wasnât the tragedy that we should have been anticipating, it was Kim embracing the Saul way that we should have been worried about. The showâs strengths have always been its meticulous attention to details, fascination with processes, and humanistic view of exactly why someone like Jimmy McGill might break bad and become a dishonorable huckster like Saul Goodman. Those strengths only became more apparent in the thrilling, low-key heartbreaking fifth season.

1. The Queenâs Gambit
Oftentimes when assessing the quality of TV shows, we talk about how âtimelyâ they are. In fact, if you scroll back through this list, you will find at least a few instances of just such language. The appeal to Netflixâs stylish, thrilling limited series The Queenâs Gambit, however, is just how timeless it is. And in a year with plenty of timely TV shows, that distinction was enough to launch the show to the very top of our best-of list.Â
Though we on the television side of Den of Geek are loath to call any rightful TV show an âx-hour movie,â thereâs no denying that The Queenâs Gambit fits that mold. But this is not just any kind of filmic experience. Itâs a throwback to a â70s and â80s style of simple, elemental storytelling that simply knows how to win over an audience. The beats of The Queenâs Gambit are predictable, but elegant and perfectly executed. Beth Harmon (the ethereal Anya Taylor-Joy) is a quiet, wide-eyed hero armed with one skill that can make the world care about her and in turn make her care about herself.Â
So she uses that skill and assembles her tools â her King, Queen, Bishops, Knights, Rooks, and Pawns, to embark on a classical bildungsroman journey of self-discovery and chess dominance. Like a deftly executed chess game itself, each of The Queenâs Gambitâs seven episodes acts like a move on a chess board. Some moments are triumphs, some are defeats, and some are sacrifices. But they all lead into one definitive, enormously satisfying checkmate.Â

SnK Chapter 118 Poll Results
The chapter 118 Â poll closed with 1,311 responses. Thank you to everyone who participated.
Rate the Chapter 1,217 responses
âSneak Attackâ is the second highest rated chapter this year with only 1.2% expressing extreme unhappiness with the chapter. Â The overwhelming majority (93.7%) rated it a 4 or 5 on our 1-5 scale.
A chapter I finally enjoyed with a lot of developments other than just Titan bashing. It would've been perfect if we also got some answers about Levi/Hange and Historia but well we can't have everything I suppose.
Finally got some great character development that is amazing payoff after all these years! The Shiganshina vets, Paradis Commanders, and Marley crew all had great moments!
Impressive how so many of the many many plotlines in the air were allowed some great development in just one, insane chapter.
I loved this chapter. I feel like shingeki is really at it's best when we have character moments and plenty of dialogue.
the chapter was too wholesome, I'm scared for next chapter
Which of the following was your favorite moment? 1,263 responses
âMikasa leaving her scarf behindâ has the slight majority, but only a few percentage points separate the top  choices. âFalcoâs confessionâ and âArmin rallying everyone to Erenâs sideâ follow in second and third.
Mikasa is best girl, she is no ones slave ! I just need ch 119 now!
Go Go Mikasa!!!
I'm so into Armin having some kind of game plan and Mikasa moving forward.
I love this chapter. It was an action chapter but damn there were so many touching, human moments it made me so emotional. Connie outburst about being constantly betrayed (pls give this boy a break, he lost so much), Mikasa leaving the scarf behind, Nile helping Falco and speaking about his daughters, Grice bros reunion hug, FALCO'S CONFESSION, Zeke and Pieck still caring about each other.....
I'm so glad to see I was right about Onyankopon lying to Yelena because he had no other choice and still be loyal to the 104th and Hanji!!!
Well, better late than never; I am truly happy to see Mikasaâs development, being more independent.
WOW JEAN MY SON YOU'RE DOING AMAZING SWEETIE
Who was this chapterâs MVP? 1,245 responses
Armin managed to claim the title of MVP this chapter, and itâs no wonder. Not only did he show some much-needed optimism regarding Erenâs current state, but he also chose to believe in Onyankoponâs sincerity regarding his lack of any awareness of the wine plot.
Honorable mention to Nile, who doesnât show up in these polls often - but when he does he makes sure to give Armin a worthy adversary for the title of MVP. Best dad? Best dad.
A little insulted Yelena isn't an option for MVP, she is literally the ONLY interesting character this chapter
I believe in Armin. He is the understanding character who's really trying to understand things about Eren.
I believe in his statement that Eren's hatred towards Mikasa is a lie.
I love Jean. He is surely honest that he can't let Eren die and is willing to help.
Finally Armin puts it together for everyone
I'd say everybody was the MVP in this chapter: Onyan for being honest with AMJC Jean radiating bi energy towards Eren Mikasa for dropping her scarf Connie for being done with betrayal Nile for being a family man Pixis for admitting he drank too much Falco for confessing to Gabi Gabi for letting go of her prejudice AND OF FUCKING COURSE GENERAL MAGATH AND PIECK FOR MAKING THEIR MONKEY HUNT SUCCESSFUL HAHAHAHAHAHA
How dare you not have Yelena in the options for MVP! LOL but seriously woman is batshit crazy, u guys should have a "who did better" question comparing her psycho face with Armin's and Jean.
Nile deserves to live and see his family
Each of the commanding officers had a big moment. Whose did you enjoy the most? 1,252 responses
Nile may have only come in second place for MVP of the chapter, but most (64.5%) respondents thought that he had the best moment of any commander who made an appearance this time - taking care of Falco and helping to reunite him with his family. Pixis was a distant-runner up (17.3%), with Magath and Shadis nearly tied for third place with about 9% of the vote each.
Nile is best dad
Magathâs shot might have been my favorite moment if he hadnât missed. >.<
I'd fight a bear just to save Shadis :((((
Seriously though, who is Shadis trying to impress?
This is gonna be long but OOF I cannot express enough how much I loved the little Shadis panel. Bless him.
Has Armin convinced Yelena of his loyalty to her cause? 1,264 responses
Armin seems to be acting like heâs on Yelenaâs side once again, and her first reaction to his comments was visceral to say the least, but then she seemed to warm up. Â 57.9% of you think sheâs rebutted acting with acting and is only pretending to give Armin her blessing, whereas only 15.4% think Arminâs Oscar worthy performance won her over. Â 26.7% donât have a clue about what this crazy girl is thinking.
Yelena and Armin are both playing each other.
Yelena is CRACKERS and I love her.
Yelena isn't suspicious of Armin, just yandere levels of jealous that he will get to see the Jaeger on Jaeger action up close and personal
Yelena is so out of her mind it actually makes me think if there's something more to her?
Yelena gave me nightmares tho.
Yelena's crazy face scared the shit out of me.
yelena looks like she eats the gum underneath desks
Would knowing Falco drank spinal fluid deter Zeke from screaming? 1,263 responses
Well⌠8% of the people who took this poll have a level of optimism that is truly admirable. The other 92% have far less trust in Zekeâs compassion and empathy, most leaning towards the âHell noâ category - that Falcoâs wine ingestion wouldnât even be a consideration if it came to it. Press F for Falco.
After heâs told Falco has ingested his spinal fluid. Heâll give a cold look and say âah... I see. *inhale* YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!â
When he learns about Falco's confession and screams because he doesn't want any Grice-Braun baby on his watch
I scream, you scream, we all scream for- Oh shoot Falco's a titan
Zeke screams when Zeke wants to
Do you think Nile will live to see his family again? 1,262 responses
Commander Nile Dok is one of the many citizens to have ingested the spinal fluid wine. Â If they get transformed into titans, Nile would never get to see his wife Marie and their daughters again. Â 62.3% of you think he wonât reunite with them, while only 14.2% think heâll see them again. Â 23.5% donât know what they think his fate will be.
Nile deserves to live and see his family
Well, at least Nile and Pixis are goners for sure, but I still think that even if they are titanized, it isn't necessarily their end, because the power of the founder can be used to change the molecular structure of Titans, so if they don't die immediately Eren theoretically could turn them back into humans
please let nile see his family he's so underrated and he deserves it thank you mr. isayama
Which characterâs feelings toward Eren best align with your own? 1,257 responses
Close to half the fandom agree with Armin that Eren is only doing this because he has no choice. In second place, almost a third agree with Jeanâs âHeâs a bastard but heâs cool.â The remaining Âź of the fandom are divided between Mr. Braus (âCan we just head on home yetâ) and Connieâs âIâm sick of being betrayed.â
Connie's anger is valid (fuck Eren)
Jean is out of character for part of it and I really hope that Armin has a secret plan to subdue Eren/at least get angry at Eren for all the shit he's put them through. Connie's right; Eren has been completely shitty and betrayed them even if he does it because he thinks he's saving them or something.
I'm glad Connie hasn't lost his ability to speak his mind, and is sick and tired of everyone's shit.
Armin wonders if Eren will use the rumbling to wipe out the world. What do you think? 1,249 responses
In this chapter, Armin thought back to Erenâs monologue at the ocean about killing everyone in the outside world. 56.2% of you donât think thatâs Erenâs goal at the moment, but that he would be willing to do it if push came to rumble. 20.1% think his end goal is in fact to flatten the earth, whereas 15.8% donât believe Eren would ever do that in 2000 years.
ern got sneky plan up his slev
I think Eren intends to use the rumbling to destroy the world, but have confidence that Armin will be able to show him it's not the only way
Isayama has been making it so its not clear one way or the other. There are arguments for and against all of the options. I am waiting for a different plan altogether, but I would be fine with either way really. Â
Eren himself will never do that. But if he is influenced by the memories of so many Attack Titan holders and the will to always move forward and fight, he probably will.
Eren will use the rumbling to deter the world, not destroy it unless he has to.
He'll use it but for a purpose we don't know about yet. Possibly a way related to the S1 miner story and the walls going deeper underground.
I think that Eren's ideology of being born into this world as a free person is something that isn't just applied to Eldians. Â We know that Eren learned that those across the ocean are the same as those behind the walls. Â Despite the hatred that parts of the world may have, I don't think Eren wants to take away the freedom of those who never knew any better.
The slight pause in Armin's expression seems to tell me there's more to what he's thinking! Not just rumbling Â
I imagine we'll follow the time-loop theory and Eren will use the rumbling to rewrite (and rewind) the world to be one without any existence or recollection of titans. Or some weird shit like that.
Eren will turn all Eldian women into anime cat girls. Thatâs what I would do.
Do you think Armin is being genuine in his optimism about Eren? 1,248 responses
With all of the opinions on Eren floating around at the moment, Armin tries to convince the others that their friend isnât on the side of evil. Â The majority, at about 60% believe that Arminâs not positive of what heâs saying, but is trying to be optimistic. Â 32.5% think Armin truly believes Erenâs had no choice in what side heâs on. Â Â Only 6.2% think Arminâs lying and tricking Yelena in that way.
He is being naive and basing his thoughts on his own perception of Eren. Or, he knows that Eren is up to something but needs to convince the others to work with Eren.
I think heâs pretending to support Eren to trick both the 104th and Yelena. The emotion he had after Eren hurt Mikasa was real, Â no way heâs just over that. But I think it stands true that without Eren, Pradiseâs fight would be lost. After everything that happened, though, why would the 104th want to help Eren? Thus Armin knew he would have to manipulate them (and Yelena, for other reasons) for the greater good in the end.
I'm not sure. He wasn't against feeding Eren to someone else if he rejected the SC and now he seems to stand behind him? I think he wants to play along until he knows the truth for sure.
He's deluding himself. He knows Eren is going to destroy the world but doesn't want to believe it.
Yes I believe so. Armin felt like he did not understand Eren anymore because his actions didnât make sense. That was until Yelena expelled their plan to him in prison. I think that was the missing piece that solved Arminâs puzzle. He may not be certain about the exact plan Eren has but he has enough to go on that Eren would never agree to euthanise people.
I don't think he fully trusts Eren, but he knows that right now, whatever plan Eren has, keeping him alive will be best for Paradise's side. I think he definitely wants to see the good in Eren, but he also realises there might be darker motives in him, though he won't tell the others that in order to rally them properly.
Heâs half trying to convince others that Eren is a liar, and half trying to convince himself. Armin just wants to understand, and I relate him.
*clenches fist* A C T I N G
Mikasa is leaving her scarf behind as she heads out for battle. How do you feel about that? 1,251 responses
The scarf coming off is a big moment for Mikasa, and most of us (59.7%) are optimistic that this is the beginning of some great development for her. For others (17.5%) the heartache is just too real. There was quite a bit of hopefulness in the write ins though!
MIKASAAAAAA <3 ok but... she's asking all the right questions!! putting away the scarf!!! thats my baby!!!
I was really excited about the scarf choice! I am not so much a fan of people misinterpreting what the scarf means though... Take a shot everytime you see someone say 'finally some development for mikasa'."
It keeps pushing along the development she has been receiving since the Time Skip. After her conversation with Eren, she more than likely associates it with the Ackerman Bond. Â Her going out without is a statement that she's truly doing things by own will. Will it be the last time she wears it? I don't think so.
The scarf is her sanctuary and her cage. Leaving it behind is bittersweet and I think the next time she wears it (if she does so) it'll symbolize something totally new.
I want to see Eren's reaction to noticing Mikasa without her scarf
I'm glad that Mikasa decided to leave the scarf behind. She needs to live her life and become strong, independent, smart, mature woman. Being attached to Eren was only stopping her from her own growth. It doesn't matter if Eren was honest while saying about hating her. Mikasa is now opening her eyes and I hope that she will keep moving forward.
Mikasa removing her scarf leads into a perfect segway for Eren wrapping it around her again, as he promised in chapter 50. So I am actually quite excited for that as an Eremika fan, rather than worried.
Chekhov's scarf incoming.
I am more concerned about whatever the hell's going on inside Louise's head as she stares at that scarf.
Louise will take it for one reason or another.
The Marleyan's have new anti-titan rifles. Who will they be used on first? 1,239 responses
The anti-titan guns will no doubt be useful fighting the shifters but a slight majority of the fandom (36.7%) thinks the wine drinkers will be the first victims. 36.4% think theyâll be targeting one of the shifters first.
Itâs taken 27 chapters, but Gabi has finally realized the people of Paradis are not devils. How do you feel about her character development? 1,257 responses
Gabiâs been in the story for quite a while now, and has finally come around to the idea that not all the walldians are evil devils. Â Despite criticism of Gabi being a common sight, the majority of fans, at 37.8%, loved her development and are excited to see what she does next. Â 27.1% werenât fans at first but have enjoyed her development, and 23.2% still donât love her but sheâs grown on them. Only 11.9% havenât enjoyed anything Gabiâs had to offer the narrative.
Feeling validated in my love for Gabi, I'm so glad she finally reached this realisation!!
Granted, Gabi isn't nearly as bad as she was when she started, but her realization came way too late for me to feel anything for her. The damage at this point is already done, so I can't feel anything but complete disdain for her and could care less whether she lives or dies (though it seems like even now a lot of people are still rooting for the latter)
Gabi is best girl.
As expected from Gabi, so obvious and predictible "development " she is the proof that isayama isnt god, becouse everyone do mistakes. Worst manga character
I loved Gabiâs character development. I hope that sheâll do something useful in the next chapters.
I couldn't possibly care less about Gabi's "development". My interest/investment in this series died when Gabi killed Sasha and Isayama started painting the SC as "the bad guys". I didn't sign on for this BS.
I'm glad that Gabi had her moment of realization. It's easy to forget that she's just a child, brought up to believe certain things, and it's coming to that realization that matters the most.
Loved gabiâs character development so so much which i was waiting for. Iâd call this chap kind of a heartwarming one in many ways. canât wait for ch119.
How cute was Falcoâs confession? 1,251 responses
In the midst of battle, Falco confesses his feelings to the girl of his dreams, one Gabi Braun. Â Over half of you (52.1%) gave this confession a 5/5 on the cuteness scale. Â 25.6% rated 4 cute blushes out of 5, 14.1% were right in the middle at 3, and only 8.3% rated it negatively.
Falco is so pure.... WHAT A GOOD BOY.
Gabi and Falco's scene this chapter really hit me. So much beauty and heart. I feel like the story would miss something without them, aside from their relevance to the plot.
The Gabi-Falco moment wasn't that important to me since I literally just don't feel any particular attachment to the characters, but it WAS important to the story and it needed it happen.
Falco's confession was too cute and pure... oh my god I AM WEAK FOR YOUNG LOVE.
I loved Falco's confession and how him and Gabi were staring at each other at the end of the chapter. They were just so fucking cute.
Wow, for once I found myself having fun with this chapter instead of stressing out. Also, I DIED when Falco confessed to Gabi, that was the cutest scene I've witnessed since 108 and I couldn't have asked for a better birthday chapter. Thanks, Isayama!
Gabi and Falco are getting too much attention but their moments were cute nonetheless.
Falco is sooo cute! Loved that confession scene.
IM OFFICIALLY A GABI STAN, FALCO IS A CUTIE
Is there a chance Falco and Gabi will get married and live happily ever after? 1,260 responses
In a series as upbeat and cheerful as this, a happy ending for a young couple is certain! Â Right? Â RIGHT? 45.2% know the series theyâre reading and are bracing for the worst form Isayama, and another 36.6% doubt it will end up all rainbows and smiles for this blossoming romance. 14.8% are holding out hope that itâs possible, and only 3.3% donât think those little snots deserve a shot at happiness.
As cute as Falco's confession was, how is he going to marry Gabi and give her a happy life if he's going to inherit the Armored and then die in 13 years anyway?
Falco's confession was like a drop of purity and innocence in this cruel world. I wish they could live happily. That would be beginning of something new and hopeful.
Now when I say "they don't deserve a happy ending", I'm really just referring to Gabi. Falco deserves nothing but the best.
I'm also glad Gabi is finally awake, idk how I feel about Falco being some weird scapegoat shield foil for her (taking the hits every single time she gets herself into trouble), but I don't think her character development has peaked yet. She's too much of a parallel to Eren to be done already.
Bless Falco, he is just too pure for this cruel world... or maybe he is just what this cruel world needs.
Romances never end well in this series but somehow I hope that this one can come to fruition. Iâll be hurt if Falco actually dies. Maybe thatâs what it means to suffer as a braun.
Can't wait for next chapter. PROTECT FALCO, COLT AND GABI AT ALL COST.
When will Zeke scream? 1,246 responses
A solid 35% of the fandom believe Zeke will only scream if heâs totally cornered by enemy troops. Following behind that at 26.4%, respondents feel that he will be doing it immediately in the next chapter. 20.5% think it will happen if and when he is torn out of his titan by an enemy soldier. A small sliver of respondents donât think it will actually happen.
As soon as he steps on that Lego
Once he notices the people with balck arm bands who are gathered in the front line as pixis ordered, it will be his only salvation... again.
Depends on how bad the interference gets between him and Eren. He panics whenever things donât go his way and that would be enough of a distraction to reach Eren. Although once they titanise they will also try to eat any surrounding shifters excluding Eren because of Zekeâs influence. Itâs a reliable last resort for him.
If Eren gets to him and does his own plan. Once Zeke realizes Eren didn't uphold to the euthanasia plan, he'll scream
The only way he wonât scream is if Armin transforms and turns the tide of the battle. It seems that Zeke is only going to scream as a last resort, but if the battle doesnât shift back in his favor soon, then he will for sure. I think itâs on Armin at this point.
Not if Eren has a say in it. For all he knows the 104th are still in the building, along with anyone infected that he cares about. If Zeke tries to scream, I feel that Eren will somehow stop him.
Will the Rumbling be activated in this battle? 1,244 responses
66.6% of respondents (is this an omen?) feel that we will at least see a partial rumbling during this battle. 23.4% feel solid about Eren not activated it at all, and the remaining 10% of respondents feel sure that Eren is going to unleash the big guns.
Destroying the world would be too simple. Eren might try to use the wake up call and make people to see that everyone is the same.
I'm still unsure whether this battle will lead to a full or partial rumbling. There are characters who are still missing the call: Kiyomi, Historia, Hitch, AnnieâŚ
I don't think Eren is going to activate the rumbling when he touches Zeke. I think he has something else up his sleeve.
Is it wrong that I WANT the Yeagerbros to use the Rumbling? It will basically wipe out the rest of the outside world that has done nothing but persecute Eldians and try to exterminate the protagonists. I see nothing wrong with this 'genocide' plan of theirs.
Eren using the rumbling to destroy the rest of the world makes no sense, especially after what he told Reiner and the fact that itâs what everyone assumes he wants to do.
Zeke is now close enough to titanize those infected by the wine. Do you think he'll do it? 1,251 responses
Reflective of the earlier question about when Zeke will scream (we may not have realized we got a little redundant, oops!), the majority of the fandom believe that Zeke will definitely titanize the wine infected Eldians in the area. A small 11% have faith that he wonât do it.
Zeke stop being such a retard already and let's get to the good stuff! The rumbling the scream! Come on dude!
I both want Zeke to scream for cool storytelling but I donât because I love the people who would be affected
Zeke screaming is too predictable, same with falco becoming a titan shifter, I will be a little disappointed if isayama does that
Is this the final battle? 1,252 responses
While a third feel that this is climactic enough to constitute the finale, a clear majority (68.1%) feel certain that there is still more to come after this battle
This canât be the final arc because it doesnât really feel like the strongest arc. Isayama would make the final arc amazing
We're in the endgame now
If this is really the final battle I worry it'll be rushed. Mikasa only just started her development to "get free" from Eren and Armin still hasn't lived up to Erwin's legacy. Then there's Hange and Levi, who I still hope to see in action again. Same for Annie. If we don't get to see female titan in action one last time, I'll be disappointed. Not sure how can that happen, since she's still back in Wall Sheena (and I hoped Armin would see her wake up), but please...
Prediction time! Death flags are everywhere, who do you think will die in this battle?
Unlike the other groups in this section of the poll, a few hundred people chose not to make any selections for the Survey Corps, expressing confidence that they will all survive this battle.
When we look at combined results, the death flags are waving most prominently for Floch (741 votes), the senior military (650), Reiner (598), Connie (594), Porco (588), and Yelena (583).
Senior Military 1,196 responses
When Nile waved goodbye at Falco, it wasn't just meant for him. It was also meant for us. This chapter really felt like this is the last we will see of Nile as a human. The next time we see him, he will be a Titan for sure.
My heart breaks for Keith. He also drank from the wine, so he´s a goner? What do you guys think?
Survey Corps 916 responses
As much as I love Jean, it really hurts  me that I chose him and Connie as the next characters in the Survey Corps that will die, because it feels like they will.  I really hope I'm wrong.
Connie will die soon, mark my words.
I didn't really catch any death flags for the survey corps? Maybe hange or levi but that's it
Jaegerists/Volunteer 1,133 responses
if floch dies next chapter many extremely manly tears may be shed for that lovable nutter
Can Zeke just die? It's been 3 times he survived from death. It makes it predictable
I don't want Zeke to die, I don't want Zeke to be betrayed by Eren. Eren, please... My heart is breaking.
Marleyans 1,150 responses
I have huge soft spots for both Nile and Falco and am in denial about their eventual fate :(
pieck must never die
I hope Reiner doesn't join Berthold just yet
reiner must die
Itâs really great seeing Pieck get more spotlight, now all I need is her last name, and I can accept her probable death
If my boi Reiner were to die I'd drop the manga
Which titan power do you think Falco will inherit? 1,204 responses
Will all of Falcoâs warrior training pay off now that heâs in a situation where he might become a titan? Â The most popular option at 55.4% is that heâll inherit Reinerâs armored titan. Â 26.7% donât think heâll end up becoming a shifter at all. The Jaw and Beast were the next most popular choices, at 7.9% and 6.9% respectively.
The stage is set for Falco to inherit Reiner's titan.
I know the prevailing theory is that Falco will eat Reiner and get his power (and it'll probably happen too) but something about letting a kid inherit Ymir's curse all over again doesn't quite sit right with me. Like what Eren said: Falcon deserves a long life too. But I guess it's better than being titanized by Zeke's scream and shot by one of those guns.
No Colossus option? C'mon.
What would you most like to see next chapter? 1,219 responses
Levi and Hange top the wish list with just over one fourth of the fandom (21.7%) hoping for an update on their condition. Eren and Zeke touching is second (17.6%) and Eren noticing his friends in the fray is third (16.2%).
Annie will reappear, DRINKS ON ME
I fucking hope Eren and Zeke touch bc damn this chapter seemed to be so short and weâve been eating for so long.
Glad to see Jean mentioning Levi & Hange, makes me expect (and fear) that they will be included in the next chapter.
Hange and Levi plz
I hope we can get a glimpse of Eren's thought. I need his perspective more, more than anyone else's. And last but not least, Levi's condition.
I'm excited to see the gang join the battle
I'm genuinely at a point where this whole 'mystery MC motives' thing is making me want to drop the series for a while. Please just rip the bandaid off if Eren is going to be a legit ~villain~ or whatever, stop dragging this out for so long.
With this being the last chapter of the current volume now would be a perfect time to check in on levi and hange's conditions and perhaps could pace the way for some good angsty chapters that eventually lead to them two coming into this battle with a brilliant game changing fighting strategy (maybe some hange backstory too if we are lucky enough like cmon its the final arc and hanges the only main cast that hasnt had any hint of a background)
Eren and Zeke touching lol phrasing
At this point, around which chapter do expect the manga will conclude? 1,163 responses
Not a whole lot has changed here since last month, but we had a slight increase in the percentage of respondents that think 130 or 134 will be the final chapter of the manga. The percentage of people who believe the manga will continue to chapter 138 or beyond has stayed about the same. Similarly, the people who think the manga will end at chapter 122 or 126 are hanging in there - and it doesnât seem like they have been convinced otherwise.
Where do you primarily discuss the series? 1,141 responses
While Reddit and Tumblr hold steady, Facebook has been making tiny gains in recent months. Thank you again to everyone who participated, regardless of what platform you are on! If you are on an underrepresented platform, please feel free to share the poll there.
Additional thoughts on the chapter?
Some of you have never been brainwashed by an evil regime and it shows.
I ache for Nile, we misjudged him, he is such a sweetheart with his three little girls! <3 I have a bad feeling he'll die, but I really, really hope he survives this, because from *his* original trio, he's the only one left. Mike and Erwin are gone. :(
A lot of people think Armin only function in this arc is just to blow up and follow Eren's game but I think he is going to become the third option in this conflict, as soon he confirms his fears about Eren true intentions with rumbling.
As for the titan serum wine victims, maybe they won't be affected if they don't hear Zeke's scream if they cover their ears hard enough
AVENGE YOUR SISTER, KAYA! DESTROY THE HATED ONE!
Eren is a shit. Who puts his friends and family of dead friend into a prison together with potential titans? If someone from Sasha's family dies because they were locked in Shingashina, Eren will be officially the worst person ever and I will root for his terrible and painful death.
Eren looked so pretty in that last panel
EREN PLEASE- DO SOMETHING. SAVE THE KIDDOS.
Finally the story is starting to progress again after months of nothing really happening that builds the story. Finally we are getting answers without getting anymore questions. This is a lot less infuriating than previous chapters have been.
i feel like there is going to be a lot of deaths tho since we are in for a large scale battle, mainly with all the people that consumed the wine.  but i still think  Hizuru will come into play here and in a dangerous way. Â
I just hope a happy ending for everyone (or most of them) but knowing isayama, I will read happy endings only in fanfiction
I like Gabi now
I hope Mikasa realizes sheâs NOT a slave and Erenâs Ackerman talk was bullshit. Ackermans are the most free ppl in this series
I wish for Eren not to turn like a villain, I want him to keep his same goals from the very beginning and save his friends, the Eldians, and unite them with Marley all together. I hope he can team up with Reiner and defeat Zeke. Most of all, I would like Mikasa to break her bonds she has with Eren and live for herself. And for Armin, to free Annie with the help of the Survey Corps and Reiner with Porco together so that Annie could fight on the right side for once, then return home peacefully.
If Armin isn't lying I'll eat one (1) entire issue of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine.
It didnât focus as much on the fights as last time, focusing more on how the characters are being affected by the fight
It was amazing and it felt a bit more hopeful than the other chapters. But since it is supposed to be the last arc, something big will happen for sure and i am not ready XD!
Mikasa does not wear the protective shields. Foreshadowing? My Eekstinct tells me she is going to be injured in this battle and then Kiyomi makes a move that shock everyone, drags Mikasa away and keeps her promise of protecting her. Â Â Â And then Hizuru arc begins EEEEEEEEK
Needs more Annie and Historia but still a 10/10. Should be 11/10 though.
One of the greatest cliffhangers ever. It created such a conflicting feeling in me. If Zeke doesn't die asap, he is going to scream. If he does, Eren won't be able to activate the rumbling to defeat Marley. It's two terrible results.
People could use some pointers from Yelena and stop looking at Eren as this messiah-like figure who is here to bring world peace or balance or any of that stuff. Eren doesn't fight for the world, he never did. He fights for the freedom of him and his people and if flattening the earth gets him that then so be it. After all, he will keep moving forward, until his enemies are destroyed.
Probably my favorite chapter out of the last year! I thought it was going to be more action heavy but there were so many touching character moments and I absolutely loved it for taking its time to touch on almost everyone
This is like the 4th time in 5 chapters that Zeke is on the brink of death and my poor heart can only take so much ;-;
Unpopular Opinion (don't kill me), I feel that Pieck is such a Mary Sue. Â I get that she is highly skilled among the Warriors, but she has seriously only had one "mistake" since her introduction (Panzer Unit explosion). Â Other Warriors such as Reiner, Bortolo Colon, even Zeke have suffered multiple beat downs throughout the story. Â I just want her to not feel as invincible at times, as it seems she's always one step ahead.
Weâve heard little to nothing about Erenâs philosophy and state of mind since after the time jump (and even after the RTS arc ended), I think weâre in for some info soon enough
Yelena is the representation of all the creepy fangirls who just wanna protecc their otp change my mind
Well, if I wasn't right about anything else, I was right in that shit has completely gone down. Probably one of my favorite chapters in the whole manga.
With so many airships this month cant we just rename Attack on Titan to Attack on Airships ? :D
