Harry Styles was not one for regrets.
His life may not have turned the way he expected it to, but he was still proud of where he had come.

Moving a few towns away was a big deal for her parents, but the wonderful job she had gotten as a secretary at quite a prestigious law firm had made it all worth it. They helped her with moving into her apartment, but Y/N would regularly visit them on both weekdays and on the weekends. All in all, she'd had a safe, comfortable, content life.
Until a few months ago.
It was a Friday night, and Y/N had agreed to a date. One of the lawyers at the firm, Oscar, had been flirting with her ever since she started working there. Not wanting to be impolite, Y/N never outright rejected him, and so the flirting continued. She was a bit uncomfortable about it — especially since he was nearing his forties and she was only 23 — but figured the banter was part of the job. She was so shocked when he did ask her to go on a date, she said yes.
It wouldn't be too bad, she figured. She would just go on the date and tell him she wasn't interested afterwards. It could be casual, and no one would be too hurt. The date was definitely out of her carefully moderated comfort zone, but she would step out of it for one night.
The date was fine. Like she had expected, she wasn't interested in Oscar in a romantic way. Still, she listened to his stories, laughed right on cue at all his jokes, and told some of her own anecdotes as well. The dinner was great, and he even offered to walk her home.
They were nearing Y/N's apartment when Oscar had suddenly slowed down his walking pace. She only noticed when she was a few feet away from him, and walked back to where Oscar was standing.
"Are you okay? We're almost there, I promise." Y/N smiled politely, much like she did in the office. Oscar didn't say anything in response, only the corners of his mouth quirking up ever so slightly.
"You're so beautiful, do you know that?" He complimented her, and Y/N looked at her feet, not quite knowing how to handle the flattery.
"Thank you." She said softly, and froze when Oscar's fingers tilted her chin upwards. Her eyes widened when he suddenly leaned in and put his mouth on hers. After the first few seconds of pure shock slowly passed, Y/N pulled her head back.
Not getting the hint, Oscar grinned and leaned in again, this time with both his hands on her face. Y/N let out a yelp, stumbling backwards. "Oscar!" A woman's voice shouted from down the street. He turned his head, and his face morphed from sheer rage into a lovely smile, the same one he always put up for Y/N back in the office.
"Sophie!" He said, but the mention of her name sounded strained. Sophie... Y/N recognized her name, but she hadn't ever met the woman. She was one of the three female lawyers at the firm. Had been working there for only five years, but her reputation was so badass, everyone knew who she was.
"What are you doing out tonight?" Sophie asked as she gave Oscar a hug, and turned to Y/N. "Who's this?"
"This is Y/N." Oscar replied. "She's a secretary at the firm."
"Nice to meet you." Y/N extended her hand, and Sophie shook it.
"Nice to meet you too! How come I've never seen you around?" She tilted her head.
"I— I work on a different floor."
"Well, I'm glad I met you, Y/N!" She said, the kindness in her tone being a real comfort after that scary moment she just had to live through. Somewhere in the way she said it, and in the way her eyes softened slightly, it almost felt like Sophie knew.
"I— I should go. It's getting pretty late." Y/N decided that this could be her sweet escape.
"Right, I'm gonna bring Y/N home." Oscar said, and your eyes shot to him. Anxiety filled your lungs until all you could breathe was fear. You didn't want to be alone with him. You had no idea what he would be able to do to you. What were you going to do about it? You weren't even half as strong as he was.
"Oh, which way is it?" Sophie asked, turning to Y/N, who was about to open her mouth but got interrupted by Oscar.
"That way." He pointed toward the direction of Y/N's house. Sophie side eyed her colleague, then nodded.
"Exactly the way I was going! Let's go." She hooked her arm into Y/N's, and began walking, ranting about how it was unacceptable that they didn't work on the same floor.
Y/N wordlessly nodded along, filled with gratefulness to Sophie or the universe—or both—for not leaving her alone with Oscar again.
She got home safely about five minutes later, not daring to look Oscar in the eyes as she hugged him and said goodbye, and she only allowed her tears to fall down her cheek when she closed her front door.
Y/N spent the rest of the weekend in bed, not in the mood to do anything. By Monday, she felt both better and worse. She had had some time to come down from the shock of what happened, but the terror that filled her at the realization that she was to see Oscar again, had her stomach turn. On Monday morning, she even got into work late as a result of a wave of nausea that hit her once she'd grabbed her keys, spending the time she used to drive to work to puke her guts out instead.

She figured it would be easier. Well, except for the mental breakdowns she'd get when something small didn't go right. The dishes not being cleaned, her vacuum not taking up every speck of dust; it just set her off. It wasn't healthy, but she had no idea how else to deal with these things.
When Sophie mentioned she was following self-defense classes a couple weeks ago, Y/N's ears had perked up. She tried to be subtle about it; asking questions to pry some information about the classes from her. But, being the amazing lawyer she was, it didn't go over Sophie's head, and before she knew it she had an invite to a class.

"See you next week!" Harry exclaimed as the last of the women from the 7pm class left the room. He was still busy putting everything back into place before the next class which would commence in about five minutes.
He was just about done with everything when Sophie walked in, another girl walking in close behind her. Harry couldn't really make up her face, as she stayed closely behind Sophie, even upon nearing him.
Sophie looked proud, probably feeling very accomplished about the fact that she had been able to convince this colleague of hers to take her up on her offer.
"Hey!" She greeted Harry cheerfully, giving him a quick hug. He was still smiling when he turned to the woman standing next to Sophie. His mouth went a bit dry when he took in her face.
"Harry, this is Y/N."
For starters, she was a bit shorter than Sophie, and quite frail too. Her hair was up in a ponytail, leaving her features to be admired out in the open. Her eyes were soft—radiating mostly insecurity at the moment—and wide. Those Bambi eyes and plump, rosy lips...

His voice would soften, he would always wear a hint of a smile on his face, and he'd repeat people's names to create a bit more of a familiar environment. It always worked, and he was glad it did. "Hi." The corners of her mouth tugged up.

This girl, Y/N, turned out to be a real distraction for him. He was so focused on trying to read how she was feeling that he trailed off during explanations a couple times. It was embarrassing, really. He was a grown man for God's sake, why couldn't he just concentrate?
Y/N only joined in for a couple of the basic movements, but she stayed back for most of the class. Her big eyes observed every movement Harry and the others made, impressed with how developed everyone seemed to be in their techniques. He noted that it only seemed to make her more timid, though.
His eyebrows kept knitting every time he looked at her, getting lost in his thoughts on how he could help her become more comfortable in his class. She'd caught his stare about halfway through the class, and at the way her eyes shot to the floor he realized that his gaze was actually doing the completed opposite of what he wanted to do, which was help her.
When the class ended, Harry gave his usual speech about how good everyone had done their job, and that he would see them all next week. Afterwards there would always be a couple of women hanging around to ask questions, and he would stop a few on their way out to compliment their improvements. When the rest of the women had left, Sophie walked up to Harry, Y/N following closely behind.
"Great class, Styles. Thanks for teaching me some ass kicking again." She teased, smiling at him before she took a sip from her water bottle. Harry chuckled, shaking his head faintly.
"Glad you liked it." He turned to Y/N. "What about you?"

Harry almost laughed at how Y/N's eyes nearly popped out of her sockets at Sophie's announcement. She was nervous around him, and it was quite endearing, but she didn't need to be. Although it was very cute, Harry wanted her to be comfortable around her.
"You hated it, didn't you?" He said as soon as Sophie was out of sight. Harry was amused, watching Y/N scramble for words when she realized what he had said.
"What? No, no of course not! You're great! Teacher— you're a great teacher, I mean." She stumbled over every last one of her words, making it sound even less convincing than it already was, even though she did really mean it.
Harry solely raised his eyebrow, indicating that he did not buy any of that, and it was all it took for her shoulders to slump and a little sigh to leave those pretty lips of hers.
"It's really not you, I promise. I just get... a bit nervous in group settings, especially when it comes to sports. I don't even go to the gym." She confessed, and Harry nodded. That certainly made more sense. His heart warmed a bit at the fact that she reassured him that he wasn't the reason she wasn't liking the class all too much.
"Why don't you go to the gym?" Harry asked further, his tone soft. He didn't want to press too much, but he did want to know more about her.
"It's... embarrassing." She shrugged. Harry chuckled.
"I go to the gym all the time. I mean, I own this one. I can only imagine how embarrassing I must be." He joked. He had to say he thought it was pretty funny, the way she blushed as he teased her.
"No, I didn't mean it like that! You're not embarrassing at all— I mean, you’re like the opposite. You're lean, and strong. You have like— big arms and you know what you're doing." "I can teach you, if you want."
The offer was as unexpected to Y/N as it was to Harry. He hadn't quite anticipated the words rolling off his tongue, but he didn't regret them either.
"It'll be a private class, and it can be in a closed room, like this one, or after closing time. Whatever suits you." Harry tried his hardest to sound casual, and not like what he was offering was something he literally never did. But the prospect of losing even more free time did not seem to bother him at all. In fact, he hoped Y/N would take him up on his offer as he scanned her face and waited for her to say something.
"No, I wouldn't want to ask that of you. I'm sure you're busy with a lot of other things." She declined politely, but he didn't miss the glimmer of hope in her eyes. Those private classes had sounded intriguing to her, he just knew it. So instead of accepting her rejection, he shrugged.
"How about this. I'm always in till late on Tuesday's. If you're sure you don't want private lessons, that's fine. But if it does sound like something you want to do, just be there at 9. I'll be there either way." Harry suggested. He didn't wait for a response — hearing Sophie's footsteps nearing — and instead said,
"Just think about it, alright?"
Y/N merely nodded, not even able to croak out a 'yes' before Sophie walked back into the room.
"Okay, I'm ready to go. Y/N?" Sophie asked, watching as her friend agreed and grabbed her things before walking towards the door where Sophie stood.
"Thanks for the class." Y/N turned around and smiled at Harry, throwing him a small wave as she started following Sophie out the door.
"Anytime." He winked at her.
"Bye Styles!" Sophie shouted, her keys clinking as she waved at Harry, behind her.
"Bye Soph." Harry called out, his eyes still transfixed on the girl behind his friend.
He didn't take her eyes off her as they walked towards the exit, taking in every detail of her delicate body as she moved further and further away from him. She was painstakingly beautiful. How had she just walked in? As soon as the girls disappeared behind the door, Harry let out a big sigh.
"Fuck." He murmured under his breath.
He really hoped Y/N would take him up on his offer. Harry had very quickly and very suddenly developed this intense need to help the girl, and that couldn't mean anything good.
Maybe he'd never see her again. She did sound very unsure. Besides, who said that she even wanted to go to this class? For all Harry knew, Sophie could've just used her manipulative convincing tricks, and Y/N, the polite angel she was, would've felt too bad to decline. Maybe, she thought he was an ass and didn't want anything to do with him.
In spite of the countless theories flying through his head, he knew that she wanted it. He had seen it in her eyes. She did really want to join the class, she was simply too nervous. But whether she would take him up on the offer, that was the question. He'd have to wait until the following week.
Strangely enough, he couldn't wait until it was Tuesday. He couldn't wait to find out…

Best Practice - a Shigaraki x f!Reader fic
Taking the night shift at a 24-7 emergency vet hospital isn't for the faint of heart, and you've seen a lot of crazy things. But on one particular shift, it's Tenko Shimura and his service dog who make the biggest impression on you. a silly little fic I wrote while I was at the emergency vet with my dog. No quirks AU, volunteer!reader, pet owner!Shigaraki, Mon-chan lives (and so do any other animals mentioned in this fic). 3.9k words.
The waiting room sounds like hell in a handbasket, but give that this is the only 24/7 emergency vet in the prefecture, that’s not a surprise. You’ve been volunteering here since you got out of school, and there’s never been an overnight shift where things haven’t been completely unhinged. Cats yowling. Dogs barking. Rodents squeaking and birds trilling back and one enormous monitor lizard that’s going berserk inside its crate, scaring every other animal in the same bank of seats. But as bad as the pets are, they’re nowhere near as bad as the owners.
In the five years you’ve been volunteering here, you’ve seen probably thousands of people come in with their sick and injured pets, and none of them come in at their best. Nobody’s at their best when they’re scared or sad, and having to wait and watch as other pets are triaged and brought back from exams. You still have your vet tech certification left over from before you went to school, so you know how to take vitals and do basic assessments, but your real job on every shift is to manage the owners. Some nights it’s easier than others.
Tonight isn’t one of those nights. In addition to half a dozen pets already in the exam rooms, there’s a couple and their two kids with their elderly cat, all four of whom look like they’re hanging by a thread. In the back corner, there are a couple of kids who rescued a tanuki that got hit by a car. They’re also hanging by a thread, and probably in need of a few preemptive vaccinations to boot. The guy with the monitor lizard is making everybody nervous. People keep filtering in and out, getting stat-triaged or sent to the waiting room, and with every person who gets called back, the guy your age with the corgi who’s been here for four hours loses his temper a little bit more.
You feel like you should check in with him, but one thing and another keeps you busy, and nobody points you his way until one of the dads from the cat family catches your attention. “Hey, not to bother you, I know you’re busy –”
“How long have you been waiting?” you ask at once. “Has Snow White’s condition changed at all?”
“No, she’s about the same, but –” The blond man nods towards the bank of chairs across from his family. “Can you get a handle on that guy? He’s scaring my kids, and my husband’s this close to breaking his nose.”
You take a second look at Corner Guy – or Corgi Guy, if you go by the dog. Corner Guy is your age, skinny, with messy blue hair under an oversized hoodie. His clothes are old, but the blanket he’s wrapped the corgi in is new, and clean. With the dog bundled up that way, you can’t see what’s wrong, but it’s resting quietly in its owner’s arms. Every so often, it twists around to lick his face.
The dog is cute, but Corner Guy’s middle-distance death stare isn’t, and the blond man’s husband and kids are right in his eyeline. The least you can do is give him someone else to glare at. You make your way over and park yourself in the seat right across from him. “Hi. Have you been triaged yet?”
Corner Guy’s mouth, scarred at one corner, twists into a sneer. “What do you think?”
“How long has it been since somebody checked in with you?” you ask. You get a death stare all your own in response. “I’m sorry about the wait. If you tell me how long it’s been I might be able to hurry things along.”
“Checked in with me? I checked in. They took my money and told me to wait.” Corner Guy’s voice takes on a note of bitterness. “These people are idiots. I heard them, over there – their dog got hit by a car this morning and they’re just now coming in? Their dog gets to see the vet first because they were stupid and I wasn’t?”
You get this kind of thing a lot. You also get the sense that Corner Guy won’t appreciate being told how triage works. You deliberately turn your attention to the corgi in its blanket. “Who’s this?”
“Her name’s Mon.”
“Can I say hi?” you ask. Corner Guy nods, and you reach out to scratch Mon’s ears. She gives your hand a good sniff with a cold, wet nose before she lets you pet her, and as soon as you touch her, you can tell by the softness of her fur that she’s well cared-for. “What a sweetheart. How old is she?”
“Three.”
“Still a baby, huh?” You can’t help slipping into puppy voice. You got over being embarrassed about that a long time ago. “What brings you two in tonight?”
“At the stupid pet store. Some asshole ran her foot over with his cart, and she’s been crying –” Corner Guy’s eat-shit expression shifts into misery. “The cashier said to come here, so I did. And I’ve just been sitting here, and I know she’s in pain – and everybody and their cat gets to see the vet before Mon does.”
Now you get why the blond guy’s husband wants to break Corner Guy’s nose. “Can I see her paw? Which one is it?”
“Front one. On the right.” Corner Guy unwraps the blanket, careful not to jostle Mon, but she whimpers anyway. “Sorry. Sorry –”
“Okay, sweetie. Can I see your paw?” You forgot how short corgi legs are. There’s a risk that the cart got more than just her paw. “Oof, okay. That looks like it really hurts. How long ago did that happen?”
“Four hours.”
So he really did come straight here. “What happens if she tries to put weight on it?”
“She hasn’t,” Corner Guy says. “I picked her up when it happened, and, uh – I didn’t put her down again.”
“And you wrapped her up. That’s good,” you say. “If she hasn’t moved it around a lot, it’s a lot less likely to get displaced. How long ago did it stop bleeding?”
Corner Guy shrugs. The blanket has a decent-sized stain, but the stain looks like it’s drying. “Okay,” you say. “I’m going to go talk to the doctors and see if I can get one to come out and take a look at her. They might tell you it’s better to be treated by your regular vet, if you can get an appointment –”
“I made one for tomorrow,” Corner Guy says. “I wanted to see if she could get, like – dog Advil or something. I know she’s hurt even if she’s not crying.”
“Oh.” That’s a lot quicker than a cast and x-rays, and the vets on duty will be really happy to hear that Corner Guy has a vet appointment lined up already. “Hang on. I’ll be right back.”
You confirm it with the front desk, then come back with the good news. “I can take her back right now and the vet will do a quick exam. Then they’ll do a splint and some painkillers, and that should get you through to tomorrow. Sound okay?”
Corner Guy hesitates. “You’re going to take her away?”
“It’s kind of busy back in the exam rooms, so we have the owners wait out here.”
“No,” Corner Guy says. “She’s my service dog. I have to come too.”
“Service dog?” You’ve never seen a service corgi before, but when Corner Guy folds back the blanket, you see that Mon’s wearing a vest, with a seal on it that you recognize. That organization trains service dogs specifically for PTSD. “Okay. Right. So maybe it’s best if you carry her.”
Corner Guy follows you through the packed waiting room and past the authorized personnel only doors. It occurs to you that you’ve forgotten something. “I got Mon’s name. What’s yours?”
“Shimura,” Corner Guy says. “Shimura Tenko.”
Shimura Tenko settles down a lot once you get him and Mon into an exam room. People usually calm down when their pet finally gets some medical attention, but Shimura looks like he’s doing more than just calming down – his face is pale and his hands are shaking, and Mon starts squirming in his arms, letting out little whines as she tries to reposition. She’s still at work, even though she’s hurt. You hesitate a second, then step in. “I can help turn her. Where’s she trying to go?”
He doesn’t answer, but you’ve seen service dogs from this organization before, and you know what they usually do to help their handlers. You help Mon rotate from sprawled in Shimura’s lap to a more upright position, and she lays her head on his chest, over his heart. It takes a few moments, but you see Tenko begin to relax.
“Are you two going to be okay in here for a second?” You don’t get a nod, but you also don’t get a no, and you duck out onto the treatment floor in search of one of the vets on call.
The first vet you encounter is Dr. Fukukado, which is what you were hoping for. She’s got the best bedside manner. You wait for her to sign the discharge paperwork on the parakeets she was treating, the make your case. “I have a patient in Exam 10. Her paw got run over by a shopping cart and it looks pretty bad.”
“Poor thing.” Dr. Fukukado’s mouth turns down at the corners. “That would be a stat if we weren’t so busy –”
“She’s a service dog,” you interrupt as politely as possible. “From New Horizons.”
“PTSD. How’s her handler doing?”
“Not great,” you say. You feel confident in that one. “They were waiting for a while. I thought he was just being a jerk, but once I brought them back here he sort of –”
Collapsed is probably too strong, but you’re too tired to come up with the clinical terminology. Sometimes after a night at the emergency vet, you forget that you even have a day job, let alone that it’s as a social worker. “Okay. Here’s what we’ll do,” Dr. Fukukado says. “I’ll add my name to his case and get in there as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you stick with them. Try to keep them both calm. Triage should be thinning out soon.”
Hopefully. It’s two am. You stick around long enough for Dr. Fukukado to add her name to the chart, then head back to Exam 10. Mon and Shimura haven’t moved. “Hi,” you say. “I’ve got some good news. The doctor’s put her name on Mon’s chart, so she’s next in line. Is there anything I can do to help in the meantime?”
Shimura Tenko doesn’t answer. You notice that his lips are really dry. “I can get water if you want it, or something else to drink. We have a coffee machine, so there’s tea, coffee, mochas, cappuccinos, hot chocolate –”
“That.”
Okay. He’s talking. “Gotcha. One hot chocolate, coming right up.”
You pick your way through the waiting room, checking on a few new patients in the mean time. You stop by the family with the cat to make sure they’re all right, cast a wary eye at the guy with the lizard, quickly triage a pair of kittens someone brought it, and grab Tenko’s hot chocolate. You’ve hit first-name terms with him in your head. That’s – not normal.
When you get back to the exam room, Tenko looks like he’s doing a little better. More color in his face, at least. “I thought you weren’t coming back.”
“No, I just got a bit held up.” You hand over the hot chocolate and watch him take a sip. His hands aren’t shaking as badly as before. “How are you two doing?”
“Her foot’s still messed up.” Tenko takes another sip. “It’s my fault.”
“It can feel like that sometimes, but I bet it wasn’t,” you say. “Somebody ran her foot over. That wasn’t you.”
“I shouldn’t have put her down.” Tenko’s voice flattens. “I know I carry her too much. She wants to walk. I thought she might want to walk around in there. If I hadn’t put her down she wouldn’t have gotten hurt, so it’s my fault.”
“Letting your dog walk around is a reasonable thing to do,” you counter. “Not looking where you’re going and hitting somebody else’s dog with your cart isn’t. That person’s the problem, not you.”
“I’ve only had her for two months,” Tenko says. His voice pulls tight. “They’re going to take her away.”
“We see service dogs in here a lot,” you say. “Nobody comes to take them away. Everybody knows accidents happen. This was definitely an accident.”
Tenko doesn’t answer. He takes a few sips of hot chocolate, and Mon picks her head up to snuffle the cup. “Hey. No. That’s bad for you.” Mon gives the bottom of the cup an exploratory lick. “We have treats at home. If I let you have this she’ll think I’m a moron.”
“I’d have a hard time saying no to her,” you say. You sit down one chair away from him. “If you hadn’t told me you got her two months ago, I never would have guessed. You guys seem really bonded already.”
“Yeah.” Tenko adjusts his grip on her. He’s quieter when he speaks again. “I feel like shit right now. She knows to work when I get upset, but I don’t want her to get upset and worry about me when she’s hurt. So then I get upset because I’m making her work, and – yeah.”
“She’ll feel better if you let her help you,” you say. You’re confident in that one. “My dog does, anyway.”
“You have a service dog? Where is it?”
“She’s a therapy dog,” you say. Tenko gives you a suspicious look. “Not an ESA. She and I did a bunch of extra training and I take her on visits to places – hospitals, schools, libraries, that kind of thing. When we’re not on visits, she’s a pet. An incredibly spoiled pet.”
“Do you have a picture?”
People with sick pets don’t usually ask about your pet. Then again, you don’t usually tell people with sick pets that you’ve got one, too. “Yeah. Um, here. That’s her.”
Tenko glances at your phone, and to your shock, he cracks a smile. “People must go crazy for her on visits. There was a golden in team training when I went through. Everybody wanted him but me.”
You should keep Tenko talking anyway – it’s best practice – but you also really want to know. “How does it work, getting matched with a dog? Do they let you pick?”
Tenko shakes his head. “You work with a bunch of different dogs in the first week. They’re all trained like Mon is. The trainers want to see which one you click with. Mon was the third one I worked with.”
“And you got along right away?”
“She kept getting in trouble.” There’s a note of pride in Tenko’s voice, and it only takes you a moment to understand why. “Even when she was working with other people, she kept pulling to get back to me.”
“She picked you out,” you say, and Tenko nods. He’s smiling slightly again. “I can tell you guys have something really special. And that you take really good care of her.”
Mon finally quits trying to get into the hot chocolate and settles back with her head against Tenko’s chest. Tenko glances at you. “What do you do here, anyway? I’ve been watching you run around all night and I still can’t figure it out.”
“I’m a patient support specialist,” you explain. “I can do triage, but mainly I try to help people get through pet emergencies in one piece. It gets kind of hard in here.”
“Whatever they pay you, it’s not enough.”
“I don’t get paid,” you say. “I volunteer.”
Tenko looks surprised. “You do this for free?”
Before you can answer, someone bangs on the door. You jump, but it startles Tenko enough that he spills some hot chocolate on his hand, which Mon promptly slurps up. You open the door, ready to give hell to whoever spooked them both. “Hey, can you keep it down?”
“Sorry. Fukukado said you were in here, and –” Tamaki leans against the doorframe, breathing hard. “You know the monitor lizard? It’s, uh – not.”
“What is it, then?”
“We don’t really know,” Tamaki says. “But it got out.”
Oh. “Anybody who’s not with a patient has to go help,” Tamaki says. “Like now.”
You are with a patient. You glance at Tenko, who looks ever so slightly entertained. “Me and Mon aren’t going anywhere,” he says. “Go get your lizard.”
You get to your feet. “Sit tight. I’ll be back soon.”
You aren’t back soon. You’re back an hour later, bruised and tired, your hand wrapped in an ice pack and an ace bandage. You make the mistake of knocking on the door to Exam 10 with it, and you get a shock when Tenko opens the door rather than just hollering for you to come in. He’s not carrying Mon, and you ask where he is at the same moment as he asks you a question of his own. “What happened to you?”
“Is Mon okay?”
“They brought her a bed and some pain stuff.” Tenko opens the door to show you, and you spot Mon on the exam table in a dog bed, swaddled in a blanket and so doped up on painkillers that she can barely keep her eyes open. “They’re gonna do x-rays later. Did you get the lizard?”
“It got me,” you say. Tenko’s eyes widen as he studies your bandaged hand. “And it wasn’t a lizard.”
“What was it, then – a dragon?”
“A Komodo dragon,” you say. “But close.”
“Aren’t those things supposed to be giant?” Tenko says. “How did that guy fit it in that box?”
“This one was a juvenile. Is a juvenile. We didn’t hurt it or anything.” You don’t think any of you were capable of hurting it. It was running circles around you. “It’s still really big. And fast.’
“And it took you guys an hour to catch it,” Tenko muses. “I was wondering what all the yelling was about.”
You and the others were really trying to keep the yelling to a minimum. You wince. “We had to find it first, and once we did, we had to catch it – but it was really aggressive, so it started biting, and then it got away again. Rinse and repeat about ten times.”
Tenko snickers. “I wish I could have seen it. More of it than I did, anyway.”
“What do you mean?”
“I cracked the door open. Some guy was chasing it down the hall,” Tenko says. “It was pretty funny when it started chasing him back the other way.”
Dr. Sorahiko is the oldest vet in the ER, and he’s gotten kind of mean in his old age. You don’t feel bad for laughing. “You’re probably going to see the rest of it on TikTok or something. Or on the news. They showed up when Animal Control did.”
“Does that kind of thing happen a lot around here?”
“No,” you say. “Usually when we have a wild night, it’s a different kind of wild.”
“So no bites from a giant lizard,” Tenko says. You shake your head. “You and Mon match now. Maybe we can get two x-rays for the price of one.”
You smile at the thought, then remember something the front desk told you to pass along. “They’re discounting services for everybody tonight, because of the – disruption. Even if Mon gets x-rays and a splint and everything, you’ll probably only get charged the exam fee.”
“Good.” Tenko looks relieved. “Mon gets whatever she needs, when she needs it, but I was gonna be eating instant ramen for a month so I could make rent.”
“A lot of people who bring their pets in here say stuff like that.” You prop your bitten hand against your shoulder to elevate it. The bite didn’t break the skin, but it still hurts a lot. “That’s part of why I like being here. People are awful in outpatient.”
“They’re awful here, too. I sucked.”
“You weren’t even close to the worst person I’ve talked to,” you say. You remember a guy whose dog needed a leg amputation telling you he’d break your neck if she died on the operating table. He got kicked out, but the vets still operated on his dog, and as far as you know, she made a full recovery. “But people here — they aren’t being assholes just because they can. They’re really worried about their animals, because they care about them so much, and I’ve never seen somebody handle that well without help. If I ever have to bring my dog in here, I’ll be a wreck just like everyone else.”
“Worse than everybody else,” Tenko says. You glance at him, puzzled. “You’re not going to have a you around to help out.”
“Yeah,” you say. The thought is weirdly dispiriting. Not only will you be in here with no patient outreach specialist, you’re going to be in here all alone. Your family lives in a different prefecture, most of your friends have their own lives to deal with, and it’s not like you have a partner who could come with you. You haven’t gone on a date in a long time. “It’s going to suck.”
“If it ever happens, me and Mon will hang out with you,” Tenko says, and you nearly fall out of your chair. “She helps me. She won’t mind helping you, too.”
Before you can even think about addressing that, there’s a quick knock on the door, and Dr. Fukukado steps in. “Hey, sorry about the wait,” she says earnestly. “Mini-Godzilla was zipping around out here and he was tough to catch. We’ve got it under control, obviously, but — hey, you need to go home. Everybody who got hurt has to clock out.”
“I’m a volunteer. I don’t have to do anything,” you say. “I can stick around as long as I need to.”
You’ve put the ball back in Tenko’s court, which you feel is the patient-centered thing to do, especially when you’re technically still on shift. But patient-centered or not, you don’t want to leave just yet. You’ve gotten a little protective over these two, and by the time you go home and hug your own dog, you want to know that Tenko and his dog are going to be okay.
“Stick around,” Tenko says after a moment, and your heart lifts in a way it really shouldn’t. “Somebody needs to replace Mon when she goes for her x-rays.”
He wants you to be his service dog? “Sure, but I’m not going to lick your face.”
Tenko laughs at that – actually laughs – and the lightness in your chest grows a little harder to ignore. You like making people feel better, and you like it more than you should that he wants you around a little while longer. It’s not often that you have a night like this one at work. The Komodo dragon bite is going to be the better story, the kind you’ll tell your friends about, or your parents the next time you call home. But hanging out with Tenko Shimura and Mon for the rest of your shift is what you’re going to remember.

Soulmates AU! Growing Pains: Leonard McCoy x Reader

Synopsis: Maybe this was what you needed. A change of scenery, hopefully a reassignment to some other foreign planet where you could collect more samples. You rubbed the inside of your wrist. Another heartbreak, so far, the worst one of your Starfleet days. Taking a peek just to reassure yourself the mark was still there, still not yet able to make out the half image fully, you dropped your head and sighed. Maybe you were late. You had been in Starfleet practically from birth. Your mom was one of the best captains in recent Starfleet history, or depending on who you asked, she had already found her place amongst the greats, and in some instances even giving Admiral Pike a run for his money. You only hoped you could live up to what she had always imagined for you. You quickly pulled down your sleeve and stood, soulmate be damned, the stars waited for no one.

You traveled through the ranks of Starfleet quickly, as to be expected, and currently stood in front of Admiral Pike's office. You had no idea what this meeting could be about. You were on shore leave from your current assignment and you were hoping to be able to sleep in sometime this next week. You quickly shook those thoughts from your head as you raised your hand to gingerly knock on the door. Stifling your nerves, still feeling like you had been sent to the principal's office.
“Come in,” called from the other side of the door and you took a breath to steady yourself. Entering the office you were taken aback to see a head of jet black hair already sitting in front of the Admiral. Waiting for his gesture before sitting, the two of you are too close for the formalities of Starfleet at this moment.
“I understand you’re on shore leave at the moment so we’ll make this quick. The USS Enterprise is getting ready to leave on a 7 year voyage, and Commander Spock has apparently waited until this very moment to choose his right hand, man.” You must have looked extremely confused considering the subtle taken aback look on Spock’s face.
“I’ve kept quite an eye on you since you joined the Academy.” Spock finally spoke, and you allowed yourself to turn and look at him. “You hold a doctorate in botanical sciences and you wrote your dissertation on how we could take Hippomane mancinella and from removing one gene make a non-poisonous twin that could be used to restore coastal plains.” Spock paused for a second, glancing at Admiral Pike before continuing. “You are also my best friend, and I care very deeply for you. I hope you know that I have chosen you because you are the most logical choice for the job.”
You could feel a flush of heat spread rapidly across your face, slightly bowing your head towards him, “Thank you Commander Spock.” The slight twitch in the corner of his mouth was all you needed.
“You also made Lt. Commander this year, you’re 24, certainly one of the youngest we’ve had in the current history of Starfleet,” Admiral Pike spoke again.
You looked back at him and cleared your throat, sitting up straighter in your chain, “Youngest to make Lt. Commander in the last 25 years,” a weight sat heavy on your chest as the sentence left your mouth. The real reason for your hesitation.
“(Y/N) do you even realize how proud she would be of you? Even if you never joined Starfleet? You have her brains and her heart, and based on what I’ve heard from Spock here you’ve gotten one over on him more than once during sparring exercises.”
“How long do I have to pack?”
Three days later, you were before Spock once again. This time in an office of your own and quickly falling into a comfortable silence with the vulcan by your side. Both of your heads buried in your PADDS as you both had to finalize a few remaining documents and double check all incoming reports. You were tasked with helping Spock give out the assignments to everyone who stepped foot on the Enterprise. You painted a smile on your face and made sure everyone was where they were supposed to go. Noticing that your line was dwindling down you looked around for Spock, wanting to double check nothing else remained on your part before the USS Enterprise took off on her adventure.
“(Y/N)?” A voice behind you half screamed your name and as you spun around your sights quickly fell on Uhura. You double checked that no one needed your assistance before sprinting over to her and enveloping her in a hug. “I thought you were away!”
“Admiral Pike called me back. I’ve been reassigned.”
Her eyes widened as she stepped away from you in shock, “No way!” You frantically nodded as she let out an overjoyed squeal while dancing in place, “Thank god I'll at least have you for the next 7 years.”
After making a lap around the ship to make sure there were no stragglers you met Spock again, this time quickly falling in stride beside him and heading to the bridge. Quickly you were introduced to several faces you had never seen, before your eyes fell onto the man sitting in the Captain’s chair.
A soft smirk fell on his face as he stepped toward you and pulled you into a hug, “Welcome aboard (Y/N). It’s good to have you home.”
You pulled away from him, suddenly conscious of how many people were watching the interaction. “Thank you Captain. It’s good to be here.” Moving back to stand behind Spock you stifled the feeling of embarrassment that crept up within you. What would everyone think? He was your boss.
Pulling out your PADD you read through a couple new reports that had started filing in while waiting for James to finish his speech and by the end of his rambling when Spock looked at his PADD all he needed to do was skim the documents and provide a signature. As he went to comment on the way you gave clear and concise instructions in response to any remaining questions in the correspondence he noticed you were already gone and there was no trace of you on the bridge.
Moments later Spock found you, already diving head deep into the research you couldn’t wait to explore. Prepping the built in greenhouse for any future plants that could cause significant problems.
“I see we are quick to begin our work,” Spock mused, hands behind his back as he stepped into what was now a barren tin can.
“Yes!” You quickly stood from the container you were mixing starter soil in, “If we get to our next destination alive I want to be prepared,” You took a small step closer to Spock, lowering your voice hoping that no one else would hear. “I apologize for leaving the bridge so abruptly earlier. When Captain Kirk hugged me it made me extremely uncomfortable.”
“I understand the sentiment as I also do not fare well to public displays of affection.” Spock gave you that vulcan half smile again before walking over to where you previously were and picking up a pair of gloves.

6 months in and Leonard was pissed. You had been a thorn in his side for 34 days now. For the last month he had tried hunting you down, but he didn’t even know where to start looking. Why did the enterprise even need a botanist? It was just one more patient that tested the remaining patience he had left. “Dammit Jim you promised me I would have (Y/N)’s physical exam done by the end of the week!”
“I was just calling about that, if you want that done you’re going to have to make a house call.”
“Now why would I do that?”
“Because I might have not told them anything about being late for any sort of physical just to mess with you.”
Leonard sighed before bringing both hands up to his temples. 6 months in and he could already confirm he was going to die of a stroke. Jim was going to speed up that process tenfold if he continued with antics like this. There was some sort of virus going around the ship right now, he didn’t need to be making calls to random personal quarters.
“When I get my hands on you.”
“Thank me later, Bones.” Leonard could hear the devious smile Jim held on his face through the comm and couldn’t help but instinctually roll his eyes as he was then told the two locations he could find you. Checking the time he was certain he would be able to find you at your quarters. He entered the turbolift and in his anger almost ran into Spock.
“Doctor.” Spock gave a subtle nod of acknowledgement.
“Commander.” The air was stiff around them. McCoy, not too sure why he didn’t like the Vulcan, maybe it was the coldness. He was so still in everything down to his breathing. Almost the complete opposite of the way a human reacts.
A lightbulb went off when he suddenly remembered that Spock was a science officer, the blue shirt had been in front of him multiple times this week and Leonard hadn’t made the connection until this very awkward moment.
“Commander Spock, one of the science officers, is late for their physical exam. I tried recruiting the Captain for his help in informing them, but apparently he’s just been playing games with me the entire time. Would you happen to know where I could find Lt. Commander (Y/L/N)?”
He didn’t miss the way the Vulcan’s eyebrows raised as he lifted his head from whatever he was reading on his PADD. Looking maybe a little too close, Leonard could see an almost quizzical look appear on Spock's face. “That is very unlike (Y/N). Some days I fear they may run a tighter schedule than me.” Spock only half spoke the latter sentence aloud, mostly musing to himself. Spock looked at the floor level the confused doctor chose and almost felt pity. Has Leonard McCoy really not met you yet? The thought was somewhat incredulous to Spock. You had to be the clumsiest human he had ever met. Sober you was almost as bad as an inebriated Jim.
“You’re not going to find them in their personal quarters. I would start at the research library, if you don’t find (Y/N) there, go to the greenhouse.” The turbolift opened and Spock gracefully stepped out, “I wish you the best of luck Dr. McCoy.”
After getting somewhat lost from the library, Leonard finally found the greenhouse. He stopped at the door, not knowing what sort of protocol to follow, so he rapped on the door with the back of his knuckles. There was a moment of silence before he heard you call out.
“Come in,” The first thing Leonard saw when he stepped in was a giant computer system running a constant stream of intel from the plants you had collected on surface missions already. From soil hydrations, pH of the soil, humidity in different areas of the greenhouse. He looked around before seeing a pair of blue pants to his left and there you were, almost completely bent over. He didn’t even notice the trough like planter you were currently digging to the bottom of, all he could focus on was the way those blue pants clung to your body. From the roundness of your ass, his eyes trailed down to your thighs, further down to where your pants just ever so slightly flared at your calves.
“Need some help there Darlin’?
Your head quickly popped out of the planter, the blush you were currently experiencing, exacerbated the redness of regaining blood flow to your head again. Leonard felt his heart skip, his eyes grazed over you before he cleared his throat, “Are you Lt. Commander (Y/L/N)?”
“Yes I am, may I ask-”
“Leonard McCoy, CMO.” he stated gruffly before you could even finish your question, trying to push down the reaction he felt when he made eye contact with you. He didn’t need to feel anything for anyone right now. He had a job to do dammit and that job didn’t involve any sort of personal relationships.
“Oh.” You briefly looked down at your feet, the solid exterior slightly putting you off after the semi-sweet first impression he had going for him. “Well, if the CMO had to come all the way down to the greenhouse for me then it must be important. How can I be of service?” You moved closer to him, away from all the plants, and suddenly he could smell the florals on you.
Oh god. Leonard definitely didn’t want to answer that last question. The images of you bent over that ungodly sized planter was almost enough to do him in. He didn’t know what was going on with him. “You’re late for your 6 month physical, and typically I wouldn’t hunt down a patient over something like this but you’re over a month late and you’re the last one.”
“A month?” You had to keep yourself from screeching, “I am so sorry. I can be up there first thing tomorrow morning? What time would you like me to be at med bay?”
Leonard scoffed, “Are you serious?”
“Very much so. Why would you think that I wasn’t being serious?” You looked up at him, before sitting at your desk and pulling up your schedule. “I’m assuming that 0600 is probably too early,” and Leonard couldn’t agree more, he would need to be wide awake when dealing with you. “I’ll be having my lunch around 1300 tomorrow, does that time work with you Doctor?”
Leonard felt a hitch in his breathing at the use of his title. Breathing has never been this hard for him, even when he thought he was head over heels for Jocelyn, “T-that works just fine with me, and I promise not to take up your entire lunch.”
“I’ll hold you to that Doc.” you winked at him and he watched as you added the appointment into your daily schedule. Leonard cleared his throat once again and quickly turned, leaving you back in the serene peace of the greenhouse. Realizing the time you started packing up your things, making your rounds through the nursery and checking all the levels one more time just to be safe.

Leonard had a hard time sleeping. You had a 3 minute conversation and yet you were now consuming his dreams. He kept getting pieces of what he saw last night flooding his mind as he had down time in med bay.
Checking your pulse he couldn’t ignore the feeling of your heartbeat increasing ever so slightly. “You sure you’re feeling okay Darlin.?” He couldn’t help but notice the blush that spread across your skin, covering your cheeks and nose.
His fingers still resting on your carotid, you looked up at him from the examination bed you were currently sitting on, your eyes wide and playful, “I’m not too sure Dr. McCoy, that’s why I came to see you.”
“Is that right?” Leonard mused as he held eye contact with you, his hand slowly moving to grasp your neck, his thumb gently brushing against your lower lip-
“Bones!” Leonard was snapped out of relishing his dreams by Jim, yelling his name and flapping around his arms like he was on fire. Truth be told he didn’t even see his best friend walk in.
“Jim, what is so important that you had to come and bother me during the middle of the day?”
Jim softly slumped in the chair in front of his friend, feigning hurt at the abrupt shutdown of his antics. “So, did you make that house call?” Jim couldn’t help the smile that crept on his face. Being close to the both of you only made it easier for Jim to plan the beginning of this masterpiece.
Leonard hummed to himself, mulling over the question his friend had asked, “I did, in fact the Lt. Commander agreed to come in for their physical exam later today.” Leonard released almost a half smile as he thought of seeing you again.
“That's all?” Jim had stared at the man before him bewildered. “Bones! I was trying to set you up together! You’d be perfect for each other, and you never know, (Y/N) could be your-”
Leonard could already see where Jim was going with this and he didn’t need another lecture on his love life from Jim, “You know I’ve given up on that, besides…”
“Besides?” Jim waved his hand in the air, trying to coax the last of the sentence out of him.
“She’s only 24, Jim,” he lowered his voice, “What would everyone think of me? They’d never let me speak at the Academy again!”
“Bones, she’s a grown woman who can make her own decisions. Even if nothing happens between the two of you, you could still use another friend. I mean when I’m all you got,” Jim gestured up and down his and shook his head. “It must be rough for you.”
“Thank you for that Jim. Now please, leave my office.” Leonard started on the paperwork he had waiting for him, not even really minding if Jim stayed, as long as he dropped the subject of you.
“Yeah, it probably is time for me to be somewhere else. I’m serious Bones, Maybe just try and get to know (Y/N) outside of the med bay. I think you’d be in for a pleasant surprise.”
Leonard couldn’t help but roll his eyes, ignoring the pit in his stomach as the scenes of you unburied themselves in his mind.

As much as you tried to focus on the report in front of you, you couldn’t help but think of the gruff doctor who visited you last night. The goosebumps that covered your body whenever he maintained eye contact with you made you want to jump him. A shiver rolled down your back as you were reminded of the southern drawl that hung in the air after he called you that damned nickname. Darlin’. Sighing you ran a hand down your face, trying anything to pull your thoughts away from the doctor who made a special late night trip just for you.
“(Y/N) is everything okay?” Spock was now in front of your desk.
You let a tired smile hang on your lips and you rolled your eyes as the vulcan was still trying to decipher what human emotion you were feeling, “Just feeling a little worn down with the pace I’ve been holding the past couple months. I should probably try to slow down sooner than later.”
“Did Dr. McCoy find you last night?” Spock was now staring intently as you almost choked on the sip of coffee you were trying to enjoy.
“I didn’t even know I missed the physical exam, how did you?” You stared back with the same intensity as your vulcan friend, before he finally caved.
“He almost ran over me getting on the turbolift looking for you. Apparently Captain Kirk was supposed to inform you it was due and Dr. McCoy suggested the captain had been avoiding telling you just get one over on our Chief Medical Officer.”
“Sounds like something James would do,” you ended the conversation and Spock was almost at the door before you spoke up again, “Commander Spock, I was hoping to take a few personal days at the end of this week. I can make sure everything is set and running on its own, but it’s…” you hesitated, not wanting to say the words out loud. It was crazy to you, still being affected by a day like this. To everyone else but you, two days from now would just be a regular work day. You cleared your throat, wanting to try to make it through the sentence without unleashing too many human emotions on the vulcan you held near and dear. Forgetting that if anyone understood what you were feeling, it would be Spock. “It’s her birthday.”
“I understand Lt. Commander. I also have times where the pain seems all too fresh. Your personal days are granted, just send them to me in a formal request so we have the documentation.” You nodded your head in agreement, double checking the time, you were surprised just how fast it passed, and if you hurried, you could bring a coffee for the doctor.
Walking into med bay you held the hot coffee in your hand and smiled at the nurse who greeted you, you recognized her as Nurse Chapel, she did the exams for your transfer to the USS Enterprise. “I have an appointment with Dr. McCoy.”
She smiled at you from the sign in desk and handed you a PADD to start filling out some general information on. “I am sure glad to see you Lt. Commander, Dr. McCoy has been going a little bit overboard trying to make sure everyone’s physicals are up to date. You’re the last one left.”
“Well hopefully once this is over Dr. McCoy can finally find something to help him relax.” You smiled at her as you handed the PADD back, she led you to a quiet exam room and assured you that the doctor would be in to see you in just a few minutes. You could feel the slight downward pull at the corners of your mouth as you glanced at the cup in your hand. “Please let Dr. McCoy know not to keep me waiting too long, unless he enjoys cold coffee.” Nurse Chapel laughed before patting your hand and walking out of the room.
You didn’t like med bay, hospitals, or anything that had to do with patching people up and hoping you’re fixing them. The white sterile room bringing up feelings of uneasiness. You looked around, setting the coffee down next to the PADD that was already in the room and taking a seat on the exam room bed. Sitting on the edge with your legs dangling you watched the clock on the wall tick.
After two minutes of staring at the clock on the wall your comm went off. “Lt. Commander (Y/L/N)?”
You knew what it was, you had been eating lunch with Spock every day for the last 6 months. “I’m still in med bay, my appointment was until 1300 so I’m here just a little bit early. I promise as soon as i’m done here-”
Your voice faded out as Leonard walked into the room. “I’ll let you know when I am done in med bay Commander Spock.” Your eyes locked with Leonard as he stood in the doorway to the exam room, politely waiting for you to finish your conversation. Once he had your full attention you looked back at him giving a sheepish smile as he walked into the room. “I made you a coffee. It’s a flat white.” You gave a soft sigh as you revel in your thoughts for a moment.
Leonard took in a breath when he saw the perfect white dot sitting in the caramel colored foam. “Flat whites are my favorite,” he turned to you as he took the first sip of his coffee. You were sure you were still in a dream when you saw the corners of Leonard's eyes scrunch, followed by a deep hum in his chest. Your eyes flicked down to his torso, admiring how the blue shirt clung to his broad shoulders. Following the lines of his body down you watched how his chest flexed as he turned to reach for the PADD behind him.
“So, it says here you’re a month due for a physical exam. You’ve been on several away missions in the last 6 months, if you keep going at this pace you’re probably going to have to get a physical every 3 months.”
You couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle, quickly apologizing once you saw the frown reappear on his face, “My apologies Doctor, it was just funny to me how I mentioned to Commander Spock that I needed to slow down. I’m not as spry as I was in my academy days.”
Leonard couldn’t help but let out a deep laugh at your comment, “(Y/N) you’re 24, you’re still young and spry.”
“Dr. McCoy I was officially accepted into Starfleet Academy at 12, I have a PhD in botanical sciences and I’m the youngest person to achieve the rank of Lt. Commander in the last 25 years. I haven’t slowed down. I cut my month long shore leave down to 3 days to be transferred from the USS Scovil to the Enterprise. How many away missions have I been on?”
“43,”
“That’s 7 a month for the last 6 months. Honestly, Spock is surprised I didn’t end up down here sooner.”
“So am I, some of those away missions ended up hostile, how did you just dip under the radar?” Leonard was now taking the time to read through most of the reports on file for you. He didn’t even realize you had been on any of these, without any checkups in between.
“My mom was Captain (Y/M/N) (Y/L/N).” The prestige of her name floated through the room and you watched as Leonard took what brief information he had about you and put the pieces together, “I’ve been training in hand to hand combat since I could walk. I am perfectly capable of defending myself with every weapon on this ship. I’ve taken on Spock and won.”
Leonard was now standing in front of you, gently pressing his fingers to your neck, staring at the watch he still wore on his wrist, “What’s the deal with you guys anyway? Ya know the people on this ship don’t know how to keep anything to themselves, they like to whisper.”
“You should have heard what they were saying about Jim and I after he hugged me on the bridge in front of everyone,” you wanted to sigh at the feeling of his skin on yours, a tingling sensation seemed to linger wherever he touched you, “With Spock it’s different. We both have the same mark, like matching same sides, not opposite sides. One night I was studying for the Academy and prepping for my dissertation. I had a few and ended up laying on my balcony outside pondering the woes of life. It was the first time Spock told me I was his best friend, and I made a stupid joke about how we were halfmates. That was 5 years ago.” A fond giggle fell from your lips as Leonard removed his fingers.
He pulled out his tricorder and started scanning you, “I know it’s weird for people to see a vulcan and a human so close, but that night Spock explained to me that finding someone with the same mark as you was almost as rare as finding your soulmate.”
A scoff fell out of the doctor’s mouth as he motioned for you to lay back, pulling out a hologram screen to run a full body scan, “You actually believe in all that bullshit?”
You could feel a blush creeping up your neck, you felt like you were on fire under his hazel gaze, “Yeah. My parents were, and from what I remember they were always so happy, my dad never remarried. He was her #1. On and off the ship. I see the same thing in the way Spock and Uhura look at each other when the other isn’t looking. I hear the way Sulu talks about his husband. Besides,” you waved your hand in the air, needed to catch your breath as the doctor held your gaze, “They’re a soulmate, if I don’t find them in this lifetime, I’ll find them in the next.”
You wanted to disappear, watching the look on Leonard’s face morph ever so slightly into a different emotion as you explained yourself. You couldn’t help yourself from flickering your eyes down to his slightly parted lips. Never have you ever wanted to kiss someone as badly as you wanted to reach up and kiss Dr. McCoy right now.
“I guess I’ve never thought of it like that,” Leonard spoke his thoughts out loud while he looked at the reports that had generated in front of him. “I was married, she wasn’t my soulmate, but I loved her. Thought she loved me too. I think she did at one point, but from what I’ve heard, nothing’s the same after you meet “the one.”” Leonard placed air quotes and he turned to look at you, “You’re clear to go. Everything looks great.”
You sat up and Leonard offered a hand to help you down, “Thank you for the coffee, I’ve dreamt of having a coffee that good since we’ve been on this floating tin can.”
You couldn’t help but let a smile grace your features, “Thank you, it feels really great to be complimented on something that doesn’t revolve around my work for the Federation.”
“Anytime Darlin’” Leonard let go of your hand to open the door, leading you back out to the med bay waiting area.
“I guess I’ll see you in 6 months,” you couldn’t help how your smile slightly faltered as you realized your time with Dr. McCoy was coming to an end.
“If you go on that away mission next week, then I expect to see you much sooner than that.” His eyes scanned your features, his hand still resting on the small of your back.
Thankfully the waiting room was empty and even though it was your second time meeting this man all you could think about was how intoxicating he was. His eyes seemed to drink you up, he smelled like whiskey and spice, like cinnamon and anise, and your back, it was still tingling from where his hand last rested. “Then I promise you will see me sooner than six months, Doctor.” Noticing how Leonard seemed like you hit the pause button after you used the title, it almost looked as if he was short-circuiting.
You glanced at the time, noticing you only had half of your lunch hour left. Spock! You stepped away from Leonard and smoothed out your uniform. “Thank you for taking the time to see me today, and for informing me last night,” You gave him a soft smile, “Maybe I can bring you another coffee sometime.”
Your nerves grew as you watched Leonard fold his arms over his chest before you saw a twinkle in his eye, “I think I would like that very much.”
“Great! Sounds like a date!” You called over your shoulder, you didn’t see the way Leonard flinched at the word ‘date, or the way he stared after you for a couple seconds longer than he should have.

4 months later and you now had a pretty solid routine going, you and Leonard were spending more time together, mostly due to you. Every Friday morning you would meet him in his office, coffee in hand and the two of you would sit and talk about work, while you approved reports from the following night. This was an easy transition for you, and on fridays you couldn’t meet, it almost felt like you were going through withdrawals until you saw him again.
This Friday was different. The previous night you ended up spiking a fever along with a few other symptoms like chills and nausea. Spock knew you didn’t like the med bay but he also trusted you enough to know he wouldn’t need to restrain and carry you up to med bay, unlike the Captain. So he sent you away and let you know to contact him in the morning about how you were feeling.
From the second you opened your eyes it felt like someone had laid a 50lb dumbbell on your skull. All lights and sound hurt, even the dim lights around the floor in your cabin had you digging around, looking for a pair of sunglasses. You reached for your comm, “Commander Spock, are you awake?”
“Lt Commander, you know you can call me Spock when we are off duty.” There was a brief moment of silence before he started speaking again, “(Y/N) why are you whispering?”
“I have a migraine, and while my fever is gone for now, the nausea hasn’t subsided at all. I’m calling out sick today.” You chuckled as you reminisced the last time you fell ill during the course of your friendship with Spock. It was the week before you graduated with your PhD, he didn’t believe it when you didn’t show up to class at the Academy. He came home, expecting you to be out, prematurely celebrating your success. Instead he found you quite literally on death’s door. Meningitis, you had ignored the symptoms for about a week, something that Spock continuously lectured you on during your multiple day stent in the ICU.
“If it gets any worse, I promise I will have you come drag me to med bay if need be.” It took all you could not to wince while you tried to smile at Spock through your comm, hoping he could hear the smile in your voice and not worry too much.
“I look forward to your recovery (Y/N), I don’t know how long I can handle Jim by myself.” The vulcan let out a very human sigh, and you felt a twinge of guilt roll through you as Spock went silent on the other end.
“I promise Spock, I’m not going to let a migraine and some small stomach bug take me out. I’m resilient.” You turned off your comm before pulling the sunglasses off and laying back down in your bed, already exhausted just from walking across the room. You slowly sank back into your sheets, pulling both a pillow over your eyes and your comforter past your head, trying to drown out any ray of light that could attempt to sneak in.

Leonard was becoming worried, you weren’t ever late for your friday coffee meetings. That’s what Leonard considered them. Meetings, you sat together, always drinking a new drink or new coffee from some of the friendlier planets in the solar system. Leonard was amazed when you told him about the multiple coffee plants you had in the greenhouse, hoping to one day be able to cultivate them. They were meetings, always revolving about what the other did the previous week or what new thing was currently bogging down your workload. Leonard was a gentleman, he wouldn’t consider the friday morning coffee ritual as a date, he had never formally asked you on a date, and at this point it was clear to him you didn’t seem very interested in taking this friendship any further than that. Just friends.
He debated walking back out into the waiting area to see if you were there. You didn’t even sign in on Fridays anymore, after the first couple weeks you would just walk into his office, coffee in hand, PADD tucked to your side. His thoughts were brought back to the conversation you had last week.
“Morning,” You greeted as you walked into his office, Leonard immediately noticed you looked off. Leonard didn’t know if he could tell because he was trained in recognizing the signs of when someone was sick or if he had just been around you enough to notice the subtle differences. You hair was thrown into a low bun, you seemed to be more slouched and you looked as if you were walking through mud.
“Mornin’ Darlin’” Leonard echoed your sentiment back as you pulled one of the chairs from in front of his desk so you were sitting right beside him. A yawn pulled itself from you as you sat the mugs down on the desk.
“It’s hot chocolate today,” you looked down at your hands, suddenly bashful at the thought of disappointing him with no coffee in sight, “I just don’t think I can handle the caffeine today, it’s practically the only thing I’ve consumed the past 4 days and I wanted something to make me feel better,” you were almost whispering at the end of your sentence.
Leonard wrapped his arm around you as laid your head on his shoulder, finding solace in the crook of his neck. You were so still and quiet he could have convinced himself you had fallen asleep if it weren’t for the feeling of your eyelashes brushing the exposed skin of his neck every couple of seconds. He noticed how pale you looked, the dark circles forming under your eyes.
He wanted to lecture you about taking care of yourself. You should know how much sleep you should be getting, but he couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He knew it wasn’t what you needed. He was okay being your comfort at this moment, Lord knows you’ve done it plenty of times for him. Sneaking into his quarters after hours to listen to him rant after a particularly long day, He fell asleep on your lap once, he awoke to a note from you. It was an emergency, some ensign removed the wrong plant from the nursery and potentially exposed the entire staff in the greenroom to a noxious gas the plant emitted when it wasn’t mature enough to be transferred out of the nursery.
“Len,” You mumbled against his neck. He couldn’t help the way his heart swelled at the nickname. He hummed in response to you, “I grew the cocoa beans used to make that hot chocolate and if you don’t drink it I might actually cry from exhaustion. He couldn’t help the involuntary chuckle that bubbled out of him. He grabbed his mug as you sat up again, taking a sip, it was the best hot chocolate he had ever had the pleasure of drinking. He watched as you pulled out your PADD, checking the cameras in the greenhouse, before standing abruptly.
“I have to go. I’m so sorry but if that ensign is about do what I think he’s doing then I could lose almost a year's worth of research!” You moved so fast you forgot all about the hot chocolate, leaving your favorite mug on his desk.
Leonard still had the mug, he hadn’t been able to find an appropriate time to drop by your quarters to return it, but he also didn’t want to intrude on your work. You always made sure to come in before the med bay opened and unless you were getting back from an away mission, you didn’t hang around the med bay waiting for the chance of a quiet moment with Leonard. It was quite pleasant for him actually. Knowing that you could both go off and do your jobs, before reconnecting with each other gave him confidence in your relationship, friendship. He means friendship.
Leonard wiped the tired from his eyes once again before stepping out of his office. Ready to take on the day, his light just slightly dulled this morning without his ball of sunshine bounding through the door before his work had to begin. Today was going to be a long day. He grimaced, his frown deepening and the lines on his forehead etching themselves a permanent figure of the day.

It was finally lunch time, and Leonard had made up his mind hours before that he was going to use his lunchtime wisely and find you. His first stop was the green house, a couple of science officers were around as well as a handful of ensigns. He had walked the perimeter of the greenhouse, not finding you anywhere, not that he needed to look. Most of the time he just knew if you were somewhere. He was always able to find you. Even at the lavish holiday party the captain held for everyone Leonard was able to find you within minutes. He stayed by your side the whole night. He even danced with you a couple of times.
Lost in his thoughts he didn’t notice he caught the attention of Commander Spock until it was too late. “Dr. McCoy, is there anything I can help you with?”
McCoy had a sinking feeling in his gut when he lifted his head up and saw Spock sitting at your desk, reading down a thorough check list to be completed by the end of the day. “I’m just looking for (Y/N). We usually do coffee in the morning on Fridays but they didn’t show up today. At all. Usually they’ve already contacted me and we would have rescheduled.” Leonard was still unsure how much he could trust the Vulcan so he wasn’t willing to go into further detail than that.
“(Y/N) has told me about the early morning rendezvous with you. They greatly appreciate them.” Spock straightened himself, separating the emotions from the conversation. “Lt. Commander (Y/L/N) is sick. I sent them to their quarters yesterday after they developed a fever. Today they told me their symptoms were a migraine and nausea. They are extremely prone to migraines, most days the Lt. Commander can just work through them,”
“(Y/N) is sick?” It’s not that Leonard didn’t believe the vulcan but he had even seen Spock sick during this last year on the ship, but you hadn’t even visited med bay once with even a case of the sniffles. Hell, because of Jim, even he had to be quarantined at least once in the last three months, “Any other symptoms I need to know about?”
“Not that I am aware of Dr. McCoy. However it seems the Lt. Commander’s migraines have become slightly more frequent in the last couple of months.”
Leonard took a mental note of what the vulcan was saying and his next mission was to get to your quarters. He had noticed last week you didn’t look like your usual self, now he was kicking himself for not pushing you to get checked out. He let his emotions for you get the better of him and he just focused on finding you. He was the CMO. He shouldn't be letting romantic emotions cloud his judgment when it comes to patient care.
Arriving at your door, Leonard gave a brief knock, waiting in the silence of the corridor to hear you call out, but there was no response, he tried his comm, “Lt. Commander (Y/L/N), Commander Spock informed me you were sick, I’m here to just make sure you’re doing okay.” No response, remembering the last time your comm went silent, a shudder ran through Leonard.
Another away mission, Jim said he confirmed the planet was abandoned, the only forms of life the Enterprise found were plant and animal life. Of course that turned out to not be the case and soon everything went to shit. Leonard already had his hands full with red shirts needing stitched up when everything stopped.
Jim and Sulu bust through the med bay doors, your limp body being held up by the two of them, “She was walking just a few seconds ago, but now she’s limp!” He watched Jim’s pleading eyes flickering around for anyone who was available to help. Spock was following behind and when it seemed like Jim and Sulu were about to lose their battle with supporting your dead weight, Spock stepped in and scooped you up. Cradling you in his arms like a child.
Leonard couldn’t do anything for the first 30 seconds, watching the way your body just hung there, no movement from you except the extremely quick and labored breathing you were exhibiting. He fully didn’t know what he was doing until he just left the red shirt sitting in front of him, having one of the nurses continue the stitches he was currently working on. When he finally reached you, it was hard to determine what blood was yours and what wasn’t.
Spock laid you on the closest open bed and Leonard began scanning you, with not only his tricorder but his eyes as well. He placed two fingers on your neck and closed his eyes, ignoring the tingling that started small in his fingertips and worked its way up his arm. Your pulse was strong and the sense of relief Leonard felt was strong enough to clear his head, though he still had to focus to not drop to his knees.
Looking at the PADD with your scans, he had to have looked visibly confused, because both Spock and Jim had tried to peek over his shoulder to read your medical information on the device in his hand. “She has no external injuries, and I can’t find any internal bleeding. What happened out there?”
Jim spoke first, “It was an ambush, they were waiting to show themselves until we hit the ground. (Y/N) had already made a break for the treeline, she was looking for a specific plant. They came out of nowhere, and Scotty was trying to beam us all out but he couldn’t get a steady signal on (Y/N). They were engaged in battle, 3 on 1. It didn’t stop until she-” Jim suddenly stopped his account of what happened on the foreign planet, almost too afraid to finish his sentence.
“We were finally able to get a steady signal and beamed them to the transporter, only after Lt, Commander (Y/L/N) had been thrown into a tree,” Spock finished for the Captain.
“I could have taken them if Scotty and Chekov hadn’t been yelling in my ear the entire time.” You slowly opened your eyes, bracing yourself for how bright the room surrounding you would be. “And it was 4 on 1 James.” There it was again, you were the only person who could get away with calling the Captain by his government name.
The breath Leonard didn’t know he was holding released as he made his way to your side, “From what I heard, you kicked ass down there.”
A sheepish smile was your response, he didn’t know why, but he needed to be close to you, he would have sat down on the bed and pulled you into his chest if he didn’t have his current audience. “You hit your head pretty hard (Y/N), and while it doesn’t look like a concussion I want to see you back here in 3 days just to make sure nothing else is going on.”
Leonard was pulled back into the present by your door opening, and there you were, gorgeous. Leonard couldn’t help the small smile he felt when he looked down at you. Noticing the way your messy locks fell around your face and the out of regulation pajamas you were wearing. The dark circles under your eyes more prominent now than they were last week.
“Len, what are you doing here?” You shielded your eyes from the brightness of the hallway. Wincing in pain when you tried looking up at him.
“Spock told me you were sick. I came to check on you.” A soft shrug from him and he didn’t miss how you seemed too tired to even roll your eyes at your boss for ratting you out to the CMO. You motioned at him with your hand before turning and walking back into your quarters.
Leonard had never actually been inside your living space until now, and he couldn’t help but feel immediately at home. Photos hung on your walls, photos of you from medical school, at the academy, there was one that caught his eye immediately. You and Jim, while both younger than you are now, were instantly recognizable. Jim was holding you on his shoulders, you held your PhD in your hand. Your joy in the photo emanating into the real world. Then he saw it, your mark.
Perfectly placed inside your wrist, he stepped closer, he could hear his blood swishing in his ears as he finally put two and two together. There it was, staring at him. He now had proof that his entire life you had been the one he was waiting for. An uneasy feeling sank over him. He just needed to push everything down. He was a doctor, he had a job to do, and he wouldn't let this discovery change anything.

You watched as Leonard looked around your small apartment, he was currently observing the photos on your walls. You were tired, you laid down on your couch and pulled a blanket up past your head. Your migraine now just a dull throb at the back of your skull. You could now hear Leonard shuffling around your kitchenette. When you finally pulled the blanket down you could see him standing in front of you.
There was a mug in one hand, and a tricorder in the other. “Leonard, I promise I’m fine. It’s just a migraine.”
Leonard scoffed before setting the mug down, “According to Commander Spock, your migraines have been more frequent lately, he also mentioned a fever and nausea.”
“Spock can’t keep his damn mouth shut can he?” You replied before moving into a sitting position and allowing the doctor to scan you. You hummed as his hand brushed across your wrist, immediately finding the spot to check your pulse.
“I was worried about you, ya know,” Leonard softly spoke. “When you didn’t show up this morning I knew something was wrong,” his sentence ended in a mumble of words. You couldn’t help but reach up and place a hand on his cheek.
“I apologize for making you worry, Doctor.” This time, you could feel his jaw slightly clench and you watched his Adam's apple bob as he swallowed.
“(Y/N),” you noticed he was closer now, hovering mere inches from your face.
“Yes Leonard?” You could hear the catch in your breath as you spoke. His breath fanned across your face, the mintiness from brushing his teeth still lingering. The proximity of being so close had your heart going crazy and you couldn’t seem to think straight. As quickly as the moment started, he ended it. Pulling away and tucking his tricorder into his hip.
“Well, everything seems fine, and nothing is broken.” He made his way to your door. “Drink the tea, and take it easy for the next couple of days,” and with that he opened the door and walked away.

You hadn’t seen Leonard for two weeks, even on your last away mission he had someone else do you exam. He wouldn’t even come out of his office while you were in med bay. The daily throb in your heart of the rejection didn’t stop your stride but it definitely slowed it. You were second guessing yourself and you couldn’t seem to focus unless you had someone else to hold you accountable. You slept more these days, not being able to stay late in the greenhouse for the fear that your mind would start to wander and then you had your heart breaking all over again.
Sitting in the mess hall with Spock at lunch you were approached by an ensign. A yellow shirt, and when you looked behind him, you could see Sulu intently watching the interaction unfolding in front of him. “Lt Commander (Y/L/N), I was hoping I could invite you to the party we’re having tonight.”
You smiled up at him, intending to find a way to gently let him down, when the unsuspecting doctor walked into the mess hall, and you couldn’t help but smirk, motioning him closer to you, you decided to just be honest, “Listen kid, I’m sure you’re great, but someone already has my heart.” You watched their face slightly falter, “However, they’re too stubborn to admit it, help me make him jealous and I think I can talk to the Captain about your incredible performance.”
You weren’t expecting the quick nod of their head or the salute they sent your way from the table, keeping the smile on your face, you couldn’t help but laugh as Spock finally made eye contact with you. “I don’t see how you attending a party with a member from the flight crew could in any way make Dr. McCoy jealous.”
You could hear the ensign talking to Sulu as Dr. McCoy passed their table, “She said yes!” The ensign looked back over at you and waved, you made sure an enthusiastic smile was planted on face as you waved back, pretending not to feel Leonard’s glare boring into you as you turned back to Spock, “Just like that Commander Spock.” The vulcan couldn’t help the sigh of disappointment. Why must the two of you make things so complicated?
“Lt. Commander, wouldn’t it just be easier to tell Dr. McCoy, how you feel about him?”
You sighed, eyes bouncing around the room before landing down at the plate of replicated food in front of you, “I wish. He’s been avoiding me for 2 weeks now. Hell, the other day I helped another science officer to med bay and he wouldn’t even look at me,” you shrugged your shoulders before collecting your belongings, “I think maybe I should turn my affections elsewhere as Dr. McCoy has made it clear to me that he would no longer like a friendship with me, let alone a romantic relationship.” You turned on your heel, already done with the conversation and quite frankly done with the way your thoughts were constantly brought back to the man who wanted nothing to do with you.
You didn’t even see Leonard approach your table at the end of your conversation with Spock, determined to outrun the wave of emotions you could feel rising up in your chest.

The party was great, it really was, but you felt so out of place. Parties weren’t usually your thing and the ensign who asked you to the party quickly forgot about you as soon as you defended Spock in the middle of a heated conversation. Sulu ended up having to coax you away from the group as the insults toward your best friend kept coming, and you quickly rolled up your sleeves.
“Hey, you’re okay, anyone who really knows Spock knows that he’s actually a really great guy.” Sulu rubbed your arm as he led you to the bar. “Plus, it would be a little uncomfortable to end up in med bay right now.”
You scoffed and could help the incredulous look you gave him, “I wouldn’t have ended up anywhere but my cabin. The best part is none of them would have even known who I was until Captain Kirk inevitably got involved, and I also know that James would throw himself on top of a live grenade for me.”
Sulu couldn’t help but roll his eyes at you before handing you one of the drinks he ordered, “You and the captain are close too?”
“Yeah, he’s like an older brother. My mom and his dad were close, so he was over all the time when we were younger, he’s the one who pushed me to apply for my doctorate degree and even filled out a couple of applications behind my back, and he protected me more than once from creeps when he would sneak me into the bar with him.” You downed another drink the drink and looked at the crowd opposite of where you currently were, “I could still take him,”
“How many of those have you had tonight?” Sulu nodded at the empty glass in your hand.
You shrugged, setting the glass back down on the bar, “I lost count about 30 minutes ago.”
The comment earned you another laugh from the man beside you and suddenly your comm went off, “Lt. Commander! It’s great to see you here!” Your head suddenly turned into a swivel as you scanned the party, looking for the biggest pain in your ass you had ever met. Someone grabbed your shoulder from behind you and reflexively threw them over you to the ground, before placing a foot on their chest to keep them on the ground.
The laugh that followed had smoke coming out of your ears and suddenly you were a teenager again, “Chekov! Don’t do that!” You couldn’t help but stomp your foot on the ground, “I could have hurt you!”
“Did you just stomp your foot? Are you throwing a tantrum right now?” You helped Chekov off the ground and you noticed how he had been grinning the entire time.
“How am I supposed to get any peace on this ship when I have a gaggle of men I have to constantly keep from killing themselves?” You feigned anger and dramatically threw your hand back to your forehead.
“Well, who else would keep us in check if we didn’t have you?” The puppy dog eyes from both Sulu and Chekov broke past your resolve and you pulled both of them into a hug. Kissing both of them on the top of the head before pulling away.
“Who’s gonna take care of you when I’m gone? I’m 25 now, in my prime, someone could wife me up right now and I’d be whisked away in a flurry of love and babies.” You watched the horror spread over their faces and you couldn’t help but feel proud of yourself.
Chekov quickly dropped to one knee and you couldn’t help the feeling of embarrassment that filled you, a pit in your stomach forming and even with the threatening look on your face, the ensign didn’t move off the ground, “Well, if you’re going to get married, I think we both,” he paused and nodded at Sulu who couldn’t help the comical smile on his face as he stared at the scene unfolding in front of him. “Would prefer if you did get married that you wouldn’t be whisked away from us.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, the first real laugh you had experienced in weeks, and soon you were laughing so hard you had tears pricking at the back of your eyes, “You’re really taking marrying up to a whole new level,” you dropped into a squat, resting your body weight on your balls of your feet as you got within eye level of your friend, “You’re drunk Chekov, you wouldn’t remember this in the morning if you wanted too.” You gently pushed on him back by his forehead, as you expected Chekov, who was extremely drunk for this early in the night, fell backwards. What you didn’t expect was him flailing, grabbing you, and throwing you down the stairs from the bar after him.
Everything that happened next was in fast forward as a group of people were on both of you, you could feel your face flush with embarrassment. As swiftly as the embarrassment settled, the overstimulation was sudden and you were going to freak out. There were too many people, people were trying to touch you, some trying to help you up, and everyone was speaking at once. You closed your eyes, you could feel an ache in your head, and something warm in your hair. You could hear James shuffling through the crowd, using his captain's voice to part the sea of swarming people.
“(Y/N) are you okay?” You were lifted to your feet, wincing as he put pressure on your shoulder. James instantly repositioned the way he was supporting you. You quickly looked around and saw Chekov, he came bounding over to you as soon as you were up.
“Chekov, are you okay?” You reached up and started inspecting him, which earned you a laugh.
“I just tucked and rolled!” He spun in front of you as if to prove his point.
“Yeah,” you suddenly noticed the pain in your shoulder was growing, “Wish I got a heads up,” you couldn’t help but laugh with the ensign and you rested most of your weight against your longest known friend.
“(Y/N) you’re bleeding. From your head. We gotta go.”
You looked up at him, trying to pull your best puppy dog eyes through the growing pain, “But James, it just got fun!”
“Remember when you said that after your commissioning?”
You groaned, you had been trying to forget about that night since it happened, you got drunk. Totally wasted with James at a surprise party he threw for you , cheering you on and even challenging you to go shot for shot. You fell off the second story balcony, thankfully into bushes, but nevertheless walked away with a concussion and a pretty nasty bruise that consumed most of your lower back. “Fine, let’s go.”

Jim regretfully walked you to med bay, he wondered if this is what he put Bones through everytime he got sick or injured, “What is going on with you tonight?”
“I really don’t want to go to med bay and I really really don’t want to see Leonard McCoy.” You automatically imitated the grumpy doctor, even furrowing your brows like he would.
“I thought you two were friends?” What had he missed, the last time Bones had talked about you, he thought the two of you had something, it was the most he had seen his friend smile in, well, the entire time he had known him.
You bellowed a dry, sarcastic laugh, “Yeah, me too.” You looked away from him, suddenly more interested in the floor than the conversation you were having, “I thought we could have been more,” you whispered under your breath.
Jim stopped walking, turning your head so he could look you in the eyes, “(Y/N), Bon- Leonard is a complicated man. He doesn’t always know what’s best for him right away. Even when the best thing to happen to him is right in front of him.”
You shook your head, trying to break the look Jim was giving you, “No, it’s my fault. I thought he was going to kiss me. I read the signs all wrong, and now he hasn’t talked to me in 16 days, and now I’ve ruined a perfectly good friendship.”
Jim wiped away a tear that started sliding down your cheek, pulling you into his chest and kissing the top of your head. You gently sobbed into his chest, trying to be quiet in the corridor with a few people still bustling around you. His heart breaking at seeing you this heartbroken. He had been there for other break ups, most of the time you rationalized it, even to him.
‘It wasn’t meant to be’ was after Chandler, a snotty rich kid who tried desperately to buy his way into your pants. He tried using his dad’s rank to intimidate you, trying to use the power of someone else to make you do what he wanted. Even after you had broken things off, there were some nights you would still sleep on Jim’s couch, afraid to go back to your dorm. He wasn’t a problem for you much longer.
“She just wasn’t the one,” was after Savannah. Someone who you remained in contact with to this day. You were there when Savannah got her dream job, she thanked you in her speech when she graduated top of her class, and most importantly you were her daughter’s godmother. Every shore leave, every break from school, you made her and her family one of your top priorities. Jim had even seen you leave study groups or parties just to go spend time with her.
“My soulmate is still out there,” Was after Ashton. It had been a few years, Jim thought you guys were happy, but then came the inevitable. You stormed into his apartment, not even bothering to knock as there was nothing Jim was going to be doing that you hadn’t seen at least once already. He was married. You were humiliated, you didn’t go out unless you were going to school for weeks. Beating yourself up for not knowing. Jim had to remind you countless times that it wasn’t your fault, you had no idea of knowing that this man was married, hell Jim even did digging of his own after things got serious and he couldn’t find anything.
He couldn’t help the look of pity he gave you as you pulled yourself out of his chest, wincing at the pain as he released you. “Whatever happened to the girl who could rationalize these things? Your other half is still out there,” he said softly.
More tears welled up in your eyes. You shook your head again, more violently this time, as if trying to shake the tears away. He couldn’t help but empathize with your sorrow. He would have put the pieces together himself if you had given him time, but you spoke again. “James, he is the one. And now he won’t even look at me.”
Jim’s eyes widened in disbelief. Never in the entire time of knowing you did he think you would ever say those words. It was supposed to be the two of you, lone wolves for the rest of your lives. “You really love him, don’t you?” he asked, pulling you into his side. You nodded, and he kept his arm around your ribcage for support, careful to avoid putting pressure on your shoulder. “And you should probably try to stop crying before we walk through that door.”

Walking into med bay, you couldn’t help but feel mortified at how you must look. You could feel the blood in your hair even more now, and you couldn’t even bear to lift the arm with the damaged shoulder. Not to mention how the makeup you wore for the night probably looked after you cried into James’s chest. You quickly glanced at him, stifling a laugh as you pointed at the mascara stain on the dress shirt he was currently wearing.
“You think that’s funny?” You watched as he dramatically tried to wipe the makeup off his shirt. “Ya know, this better win me some brownie points.”
You laughed harder at the comment, “Speaking of brownie points, I promised the ensign who asked me to the party that if he helped me make Leonard jealous I would put in a good for him with you.” You couldn’t help the dreamy smile that fell on your face just mentioning him, “Then he said Spock was an asshole and now I think we should just shoot him out into the void of space.”
“I forgot how mean you get when you drink.”
“Who else do we have tonight?” You didn’t want to turn around, the southern drawl in his voice was something you didn’t even notice how much you had missed until this very moment. You wanted to cower behind James, you wanted to run and hide. You wanted to beg James to turn around and patch you up in your quarters. Before you could speak, James did.
“Well, I decided to throw a party and things got a little out of hand. The Lt. Commander was practically thrown down a flight of stairs. I think they have dislocated a shoulder and they’re bleeding. From the head.”
You couldn’t stop yourself when you jabbed an elbow into his ribcage, pushing through the pain to let him know how you felt, “I’m fine, I just hurt a little bit.”
James poked you in the shoulder, using the littlest bit of pressure, causing you to rear back and stifle down a groan of pain, “You asshole!”
You didn’t miss the sigh or the eye roll from the handsome doctor in front of you, and now you were pissed. You were trying to have a good time tonight, and yet absolutely no one was able to take him off your mind, and now here you were, standing in front of him, looking like a complete mess, “Listen, you obviously don’t want me here, and quite frankly I don’t want to be here, so if you could just put my shoulder back in place so I can go away, that would be great.” You sighed before turning away from them and finding the closest open bed, “Stop looking at me like that James, I can feel your eyes in the back of my head.”
You couldn’t hop onto the bed without jostling everything that hurt, so you chose to plant yourself in one of the visitor chairs beside the bed. Your head resting back against the wall, closing your eyes and trying to prevent the tears trying to escape, the pain now moving toward the range of extreme and you finally touched your head. Pulling it away to inspect your fingers, there was the blood now sticky. You sighed, annoyed with the fact that showering after tonight was going to be hard.

Leonard pushed through the privacy curtain and for a couple of moments he just looked you over with his eyes. Jim had told him what happened. The thought of Chekov proposing, no matter how fake, seemed to enrage him. The thought of you with any man did that to him, not to mention the blatant flirting in the mess hall the other day. He wanted to track down the ensign who asked you to the party down, give him a piece of his mind. He wanted to let the ensign know that he shouldn’t be hitting on his woman.
But you weren’t his, were you? Jim let him know about the conversation in the hallway, how you cried after telling him how long it had been since he had been icing you out. Has it really been 16 days? Jim told him he needed to fix it. Leonard wasn’t sure he could. How would he even go about letting you know that the only reason he was acting this way was so he didn’t break your heart. He was damaged, and had too much baggage for someone as sweet as you. He didn’t want to ruin you.
Looking at you now though, past the injuries of the night, Leonard realized that his way of trying not to cause you any harm was actually doing the most harm. Your eyes were closed, but still slightly puffy and tear streaks had etched their way onto your cheeks. The blood in your hair now drying and matting your hair together. From just looking at your current posture he wasn’t too concerned with any broken bones, but he suspected Jim was probably right about the dislocated shoulder.
He cleared his throat to get your attention, watching closely as your eyes slightly opened. He didn’t miss the glimmer in your eye as you finally looked at him, and when you held his gaze Leonard let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding in. The need to be close to you reared its head again and it took all of his self control to not sprint the short distance to you. He sat on the med bay bed so he was closer to eye level. He didn’t really know what to say.
“Hi,”
Your eyes widened and your mouth fell open at his opening line choice. “Hi? Are you fucking kidding me? Hi?” You threw your good hand in the air, wincing from the sudden change in posture, as you whisper screamed at him. The both of you knew there was an extremely high chance Jim was trying to eavesdrop on the two of you.
“What else am I supposed to say?” Leonard almost couldn’t believe himself, who says hi?
“Maybe, I’m an ass for not talking to you for 2 weeks but let me stitch up your head.”
“I am sn sss.”
You huffed, sitting up straighter, “Or maybe, it looks like your shoulder is dislocated, let's get it back into place and get you out of here.”
“If that’s what you want me to do.”
“Of course I want you to fix me! Why else would I drag myself down here?”
So you wanted to fight, Leonard could do that, “Oh, so you have to drag yourself down here?”
“Right now, yeah? I literally have no other choice!”
Leonard wanted to smirk, “So you only wanted me because you had no other choice?”
You gasped and looked at the ground, “You know that’s not what I meant.”
Leonard stood, grabbing the PADD he had with him, “I’m not the one who said it.”
“Yeah, and I’m not the one who made me fall in love with you.” Leonard froze, just barely able to hear you, you had dropped into a barely audible whisper. Leonard didn’t know if it was from fear of saying it outloud or hoping he wouldn’t hear it.
“Yeah, well what are you going to do about that?”
He watched as your head snapped up, and if looks could kill Leonard was sure his head would have exploded right then and there, “You’ve obviously already made your choice, so maybe just get me the hell out of here and transfer my care to someone else. That way you'll never have to see me again.”
He sighed, not really wanting to do this now, but it looks like he was going to have no other choice, “(Y/N)-”
“Save it. I don’t want to hear it, now please, just fix me enough so that I can go back to my quarters and shower, I need to get this blood out of my hair.”
“(Y/N)-”
“I’m serious-”
“If you would shut up you would know that I’m in love with you too!”
Leonard had never raised his voice at you before, and the look on your face made him regret it instantly. He crouched in front of you and cradled your face in his hands, “I am so head over heels for you Darlin’” He looked into your eyes, searching for anything other than the rage they currently held, “It scared me. That night in your room, when I saw the way you were looking at me, I knew. I never wanted anyone to look at me the way you did. I panicked. I ran and hid, hoping that if I just pushed everything down for long enough then-” He sighed again, his breath feeling like a cotton ball in his throat.

You were pissed. Angry at Leonard for ignoring you, angry that you were in med bay, angry that Leonard wouldn’t shut the fuck up. You were trying so hard to move past the feelings you had for him, but you always seemed to end up right back in front of him.
“Why?” You couldn’t stop your mouth from moving, even though in this moment you desperately wanted him to shut up. You could hear how tired he was, making the southern accent more prominent, making your heart swell.
“Well, I’m broken. Told Jim that Jocelyn took everything in the divorce. All I got is my bones.”
“So that’s where the nickname comes from? James tries so hard to call you Leonard to my face, like the nickname is a secret or something.” You could feel the way he looked at you, choosing to focus on the nickname instead of anything else he just told you. “Leonard, we can continue this conversation later, but my shoulder really hurts. Please help me.”
Leonard helped you onto the bed, and slightly straightened you up. “Um, I need to take your shirt off, I need to see-”
You couldn’t help but blush. You had thought this before, not in this context. Your fantasies usually revolved around his office, in the shower, maybe you thought about you and him in the greenhouse once or twice, but never like this, “I’m gonna need some help with that.”
Leonard slowly pulled your arm out of the sleeve, and you almost thought you could see him shaking, “Len, I’m not made of porcelain.” You could hear him release the breath he was holding, his thumb dancing over your wrist. Soon enough you were topless, you could see a bruise forming. Your shoulder felt so wrong. You almost couldn’t describe it. It felt taut like it was being pulled, but you felt like you had no control, you couldn’t shrug if you tried.
“This is gonna hurt, according to these scans not only is your shoulder dislocated but you have a torn AC ligament.” He laid you down, placing your arm down over the edge of the bed, and quickly pulling your arm into a 90 degree angle, while rotating your arm. You felt the relief as you heard your shoulder pop back into place. Then the hypo, and if your shoulder still didn’t throb a little you would have hit Leonard.
“That’s gonna help with the pain and swelling, and this one,” He stabbed you again, “Is gonna help with that ligament, but you cannot lift anything heavier than 15 pounds until I clear you, and because this can still affect your range of motion, we’ll still have to keep a close eye on it. Usually for a dislocated shoulder we would recommend a sling, but we’re going to need movement if you want to be able to maintain your current quality of life.”
“Okay, and the treatment plan?” You sat up and gingerly pulled your shirt over your head.
“Well the fact you were able to do that is a good sign.” He took a step back from you, “Stand up and hold your arms directly out in front of you,” You did, your left arm not reaching quite as high as your right hand, “Now out to the side,” again, the left shoulder not quite as high. “Drop them to your sides and shrug,” You almost couldn’t. Trying with all of your might to move your left side up to your chin. The smallest inch of movement had you content.
“4-6 weeks,” Leonard smashed the contentedness. “I know, it seems like a long time, but (Y/N) losing range of motion for your line of work would hinder you in more ways than one. Even with the medicine we have, we can only speed up the human body's healing time by so much. If it was any worse I would have said 8.” He took a step closer to you and took your hand in his. “Now stop pouting and let me check your head.”

It had been 3 days since the last time you had seen Leonard, the longest amount of time the two of you had gone since that night in med bay. You had even spent the night once or twice. However, this time you weren’t anxious about it. He didn’t consume your thoughts like before and for the first time in weeks, you finally felt like you were back in your groove. You were on the last 2 week stretch of desk duty, and not surprisingly you were spending most of the time following Spock around, or wandering around the greenhouse, trying to politely remind people that your way was the right way and you were actively writing the protocol for this.
However, right now you were moping. Looking like someone ate your candy and you couldn’t help it. Everyone who you could bother during the day was gone. A new planet, going where no man has gone before, or whatever the excuse was. You just knew you were bored and there was no one around to entertain you. You soon found yourself wandering to med bay, hoping that you could catch a moment alone with Leonard. You waved at the nurse sitting at the desk, before making your way to Leonard's office. You knocked on the door and when you didn’t hear a response you slowly opened the door.
Stepping into the office you glanced around, it was empty. You frowned even more, wanting to fold your arms over your chest and huff. You made your way back to the desk and faced the nurse. “Where’s Dr. McCoy?”
“The captain asked him to join the team going down the surface today.”
“Oh, okay. Can you let him know I stopped by? He wanted me to come down for a follow up.”
The young boy sitting behind the desk smiled at you and straightened his posture a little, “Yeah, can I get a name? Lt. Commander (Y/N). Thank you.” You smiled back before heading back out into the hallway.
Back in the greenhouse you couldn’t stay focused, wanting to wander and more than enough times trying to sneak in and help with the rearranging currently going on. Every time someone caught you and every time they threatened to tell Spock. Eventually you conceded, holing yourself away in your office. You couldn’t help the way you stared off into literal space. Not being able to keep your mind busy with anything work related, you decided to give up. You pulled out your PADD and started drawing. Focus every bit of [ent up energy into the smallest details on the pages…
Just wanting something to keep you busy. And you were now in a field, it looked like home. Yellow dandelions and honeysuckle sprouting up everywhere, you could feel the cool grass beneath your toes. The wind was warm and steady. The sky was cornflower blue and white wispy clouds were scattered throughout. You finally felt calm. You closed your eyes, trying to breathe in the moment. A hand grasped yours, you looked over and there he was. The man who completely consumed your dreams. You could see it. This is where you spent most of your time, the space you went to in duress.
The image shifted, now you were in a house. Your mom’s home. It smelled exactly as you remembered. You heard the kettle on the stove and made your way to the kitchen, laughter floated through the air. The kitchen now in view, your mom was now at the counter, filling a group of mugs that sat on the counter. Behind you at the kitchen island, stood Leonard, chopping vegetables and bantering with your dad.
The image rippled behind you, changing the scenery and you were still on earth, but this was your home. The place you started and the place you would end. When you decided to move to Washington, James helped you. Packed only what you needed and took the road trip with you, only along for the memories. Your homestead spread before you. Your eyes automatically drifted to the chicken coop. Leonard was there, several of your hens grouped around his feet as he spread bird seed for them.
“I don’t think chickens would be that big of a fan of me,” You jumped as Leonard made himself known behind you. You slowly made your way to him, suddenly anxious about the interaction, “I heard you were looking for me?”
You almost forgot, you laughed to yourself before explaining, “Yeah, it wasn’t anything important. I was bored, and both James and Spock were gone! I can’t do anything with this damn arm and I needed stimulation. I didn’t know James stole you too!” You lightly hit him in the chest and scowled, “I thought we had a rule.”
The doctor suddenly looked bashful as he stared at your feet, “There was an exception to the rule,” From behind his back, he revealed a plant. It looked like a venus fly trap, but it was maroon. “ “It looks like dionaea muscipula, but I’ve never seen one this color. Or as large.” You gently cradled the propagate in your hands, breathing gently as you inspected it. “Usually 10cm is the largest they get. This one could be significantly bigger.” You finally looked up at him, tears slightly welling up in your eyes, “Thank you,”
Suddenly you were surrounded by him. His hand on your face, his smell swirling around, and most importantly his lips on yours. They were soft, a complete contrast to the finger grazing over your cheek. You couldn’t help but smile into the kiss as you leaned into him. He wrapped his free hand around your waist and pulled you against him. You were hyper aware of the feeling of his chest against yours, you swore your breathing was in sync.
Leonard pulled away first, deciding that air was actually a vital part of his plan to have a future with you. He rested his forehead against yours, placing a chaste kiss to your nose, “Maybe I can get used to the chickens.”

Leonard practically dragged you out to the turbolift. Only giving you a split second to stop by the greenhouse to drop off your new favorite thing. Surprised you were able to make the short ride to his quarters without your hands all over each other. He held your hand the entire time and you couldn’t help but notice how opposite the two of you looked. Leonard with a determined look taking over his features, he was desperate to be alone with you and he couldn’t stop bouncing as you waited to arrive at the correct floor. You, on the other hand, looked completely love drunk. Still reeling from the kiss, just happy to be near him and along for the ride.
He pulled you down the hallway and you did everything you could to stay on your feet as you tripped after him. He turned back to look before picking you up, tossing you over his shoulder and he resumed his pace. You let a giggle fall out of you, hanging over his back, staring at the floor. He hummed in response, and you couldn’t help but shake your head, knowing he couldn’t see you, deciding to keep this to yourself. He stopped, arriving at his door, and soon you were in the darkness and privacy of his personal space. The room is familiar in the dim lighting from the late night visits that happened occasionally. He continued, moving to a space you had never seen before, his bedroom.
You couldn’t help the flurry you were feeling in your stomach, suddenly aware of everything around you. Taking in what the room looked like, you could definitely see Leonard in the space, it was nicely decorated. The sheets looked soft, a rich phthalo green with matching comforter. The night stands were simply decorated, with a single light on each, one of them holding a photo of he and James at the Academy. The rest of the room had small trinkets, and a couple of dirty clothes were sitting on a chair in the corner. What really caught your eye was the small purple succulent sitting on his dresser.
“You put him on your dresser?” You couldn’t help but ask, knowing he would know exactly what you were talking about. The succulent was your first surviving propagation of its kind. You had affectionately named him ‘Jim’.
“Yeah, I brought him home that very day. I’ve been following all your rules. Even had Scotty set me up special lights so the little could get the effects on sunlight.” He set you down on the bed and looked at you, before stepping forward and weaving his way between your legs, currently towering over you. You wanted to drool, you were sure this was heaven. He was kissing you again, this time deeper than before, his tongue already begging as you moved your lips against his. Ever so slightly you moved back onto the bed, slowly lying down as Leonard climbed on top of you. His hands slowly moved up your shirt and you couldn’t help but try and press your body against his hands. Trying to desperately communicate the need for his touch.
“Len,” you whispered and he looked at you. His eyes softened as he took in the sight of you, a hand coming up to cup your cheek, you couldn’t help but pull him into a hug, pulling him down until his entire body weight was on top of you. You couldn’t help the contented sigh that fell from your lips as you embraced this feeling. He felt like a weighted blanket on top of you, bringing a sense of peace with him as your breathing synced together, “I missed you.”
“I missed you too Darlin’” Your hands grabbed the back hem of his shirt, gently tugging and trying to pull it up his body, Leonard picking up the hints. Moving off you, he finished the job you were working on, before you sat up, allowing him to pull your shirt off you. “You’re gorgeous,” again you wrapped up in a kiss, and it was everything you had been dreaming about since you met him.
Soon enough, you were naked, your lower half dangling off the edge of the bed, Leonard stroking himself as he stared at you. You swore you could feel his eyes burning into your skin as he raked you over, looking as if he was trying to memorize every inch of your body, the adoration radiating off him made you want to cry. You couldn’t remember a time anyone had made you feel this way just from a look. You didn’t know why you were suddenly so emotional, but now you were worried you were ruining the moment. You saw Leonard’s face change as he moved toward you.
“(Y/N)?” He scooped you up, sitting you on his lap, his thumb brushing away the one rogue tear that escaped, “What’s wrong?”
You shook your head and smiled, “Nothing, it was just the way you looked at me.” You turned around in his lap, straddling him. You slowly kissed your way around his jaw line, up to his ear before gently nibbling on his ear lobe. You kept your lips pressed to his skin as you whispered in his ear, “Now, where were we Doctor?”
You shivered as he gripped your thighs, you slowly hiked yourself up placing one hand on Leonard’s shoulder to keep yourself steady using the other to line yourselves up. You didn’t miss the way he bit down on his lip as soon as your hand wrapped around his cock. Slowly easing yourself down onto him, you slowly stretched down until your thighs were touching his, placing both arms on his shoulders as you gave a few small bounces just to adjust yourself. Adjusting your knees, you started rotating your hips while setting a steady pace as you started to spring up and down. Having to quickly adjust when Leonard dropped to his elbows, and you came with him.
He now had the upper hand, using one arm to wrap around your waist, keeping you in place, using the other to hold your chin, maintaining eye contact as he set a brutal pace, his hips almost smashing into yours. The new angle had changed and suddenly you couldn’t stop the moan that fell from your lips, seeing a smirk appear on Leonard’s face. “You sound so pretty,” He swiped his thumb over your lips and instinctively you slightly parted your mouth, “Say my name darlin.’”
You couldn’t help the heat that burned your cheeks, deciding to try and get back at him for the compromising position he put you in, “Leona-” You didn’t get to finish his name before his hips stopped moving. His arm is still locking you in place. You wanted to pout at the sudden loss of movement but didn’t have enough time as you were on your back now. Legs resting around his hips, his free hand now gripping one of your hips, as he slowly leaned in closer.
He adjusted the way he was holding your chin, he now rested your chin in the dip between his thumb and index finger, with each holding onto your jaw and adjusting your head to look at him, “I don’t think you heard me, what’s my name?”
“Dr. McCoy,” You looked at him through lidded eyes, eyes closing at his grip on your jaw tightened for a split second, before his hand on your hip pulled you closer to him. Settling a tortuous pace as he thrust into you, hiking your hips higher up as you started thrusting up towards him, desperate for more. He slowed down for a split second, a hand coming to rest by your throat. His fingers instinctively fell on your carotid.
“Are you sure you’re feeling okay? Your heart rate seems pretty elevated,” He softly widened his grip, his hand now resting at the base of your neck.
“I was hoping you could tell me Doctor,” Leonard leaned down close to you, his fingers already slowly inching to either side of your neck, “Are you okay with this.”
You quickly nodded your head and wiggled your body, closer to his, “Yes Le-” You swallowed, avoiding eye contact with him, “Yes Dr, McCoy.”
He applied pressure to the sides of your throat, you tilted your head back, almost as if you were presenting your neck to him and you could have died hearing the low moans Leonard was placing in your ear. You hummed as your eyes drifted shut, and you could feel the coil that had been tightening was ready to snap.
“I want to spend the rest of my life with you (Y/N),” He thrust to punctuate every word and there you went. You gasped and drug your nails down his back as your thighs tightened around his waist. Leonard released his grip from around your neck and pulled away from you, spilling all over your stomach. He was gone the next second, before returning with a warm wash rag, practically wiping you down from head to toe. You couldn’t help yourself when you settled down under the sheets, face buried in the pillows that smelt like him.
Leonard soon returned, climbing into the bed beside you and pulling you into his chest. Kissing the top of your head before speaking, “Are you okay? I know that got intense pretty fast,” His fingers were absentmindedly running through your hair.
You yawned, moving yourself closer so your ear was pressed up against his chest, his heartbeat thrumming in your ears. You nodded against his ribcage, “I’m fine. I’m great actually…and the ‘Doctor Thing’ is kinda hot.” You could feel his chest shake with a silent laugh and you yawned again. Pulling the blanket up to your neck and quickly falling into the best sleep you had received in weeks.

Leonard instinctively grabbed for you when he rolled over half awake in bed. He received no reprieve from the empty sheets, they were still slightly warm, and now he was wide awake. Scanning the room with his eyes, he couldn’t see you anywhere. There was something new on the dresser and he slowly made his way over to it. It was a note from you, and he couldn’t help but notice how elegant your handwriting was as it scrawled across the page. ‘I needed coffee, and you have none. Come find me if you would like a cup.”
Leonard almost seemed like he was on autopilot as he dressed and brushed his teeth, leaving his quarters with only his comm and a mission to see you again. He quickly arrived in front of your door, and knocked within the same breath, realizing how desperate he was to see you. Now you stood in front of him, in a white t-shirt. He swallowed thickly as he could see your nipples pressed against the fabric, noticing how the pajama pants you stole from him hung around your waist.
He noticed the way you were looking at him, eyes still slightly coated with tiredness as they scanned his face, he tried to remain as untroubled as possible, trying not to give any signs of doubt as he stared back at you. He had something important he needed to tell you. You slowly reached out and grabbed his hand, pulling him back into your quarters with you. Leonard could smell the freshly ground coffee and finally took a glance around now that he was here again. Taking in more than just the photos on your walls.
He watched as you made your way across the room from him, back toward the espresso machine that sat on your counter, “Now how did you manage to pull that off?”
You looked over your shoulder as you giggled, “Listen, when it comes to Starfleet, I’m not dumb. I know that I’m a nepo baby and I know that I could have everything the easy way. I could take advantage of everything and everyone would let me. James could too.” Leonard scoffed as you started swirling and lightly tapping your steamed milk, “I know that my last name carries a legacy that I won’t ever feel I have earned.” You started slowly pouring the milk into a steel Starfleet mug, “However, almost everyone else thinks that just carrying her name is enough to give me the world. Spock knew that, he challenged me all throughout my time in Starfleet, and yes the age gap was definitely weird for everyone at first, but he sees something in me, something I never will.” You looked up at him as you started tamping your espresso, “Admiral Pike knew that. It’s because he knows me. I’ve called that man Uncle Chris since I could talk. He knew a pay bump wasn’t going to get me to leave my station. Especially to come to the ship he was the first captain of. So he gave me Spock, and a brand new espresso machine.”
Your fingers tapped on the edge of the counter as you bit your bottom lip. You grabbed your finished espresso shot, holding it up to the light and inspecting it. “I was a barista once, and I loved it, it gave me something that made me feel like me. The other people in the coffee shop didn’t know who I was, or if they did they didn’t care.” You were practically speaking into the counter as you delicately poured the shot over your milk. “My mom would have loved it. If there’s one thing my dad drilled into my head, it’s that I didn’t have to choose Starfleet.” You now held a bottle filled with a purple syrup. You steadied your hand as you etched a simple crosshatch pattern into the top of the foam.
“I’ve been thinking about what you said in med bay for a couple days now,” You quickly sanitized everything, exchanging steaming pitchers, mugs, and even the shot glass, “My mom, is the reason I do anything in this life.” He watched as you started your process over again. Moving at a slightly quicker pace this time, “She died when I saw 5. It’s been 20 years and yet her birthday still feels like my day of atonement.” Leonard noticed how you adjusted the amount of coffee in the puck and the amount of water, “My last relationship ended because he proposed, and then I found out he had a wife.” You couldn’t help but happily gasp as you finally watched the shots finish pulling.
“Just because you were married the person you, at one point in time, loved,” You were now steadily pouring the milk into the espresso that laid in the bottom on the mug, the stream of milk coming from your steaming pitcher couldn’t have been thicker than a pencil, “It doesn’t mean that you’re broken, and if you are, then so am I. And so is James. And Spock as well. Every single person on this ship,” You handed him the mug, “Is broken in some way, and it doesn’t make them any less worthy of love.”
You cradled your mug in your hands before sitting across from him, in a small armchair you managed to tastefully squeeze in the small living room provided to you, “I love Spock, and I love James,” you swiftly pulled your legs underneath you, “And I love you, Leonard. And you are worthy of love.”
You slowly took a sip from your mug, watching his reaction as you tried to keep a somewhat safe distance from him, it wasn’t every day you could pull that conversation out of thin air. You became somewhat concerned as Leonard stared at his coffee, after a couple more seconds he looked at you and you felt like you could breathe again.
“Do you remember the first time you ever came to med bay? The conversation we had?”

Leonard couldn’t help but stare at the perfect white dot as it floated perfectly in the middle of the carmel colored drink from the milk and espresso mixing together. He felt breathless. You remembered, this was the first time he had coffee made by you since he tried to run away. He swore he could feel his heart swell, looking at the act of love made right in front of his face. “And I love you, Leonard. And you are worthy of love.” He wanted to run. To move out of your eyesight, and if he could, out of your life.
He couldn’t. He wouldn’t dare. You were here, why would he ever leave? He took in everything around him, trying to stifle his nervous system that was telling him to abort mission. He swore he could see flashing red lights in his vision. He finally looked at you and the room was alive and it was all because of you, you were the sunshine he so desperately craved. Like his own personal star. “Do you remember the first time you ever came to med bay? The conversation we had?”
“I remember the big three,” you softly smiled at him, and he watched as you took another sip from your mug.
Leonard just needed a little bit more context, for his own peace, to make sure the both of you were on the same page, “The big three?”
“We talked about how flat whites are your preferred drink of choice, we talked about ‘the deal’ with me and Spock, and we talked about how you didn’t believe in soulmates.” It almost seemed like you had a checklist to remember. Feeling quite pleased with himself that you seemed to be on the same page already.
“I never believed in having a soulmate. Not just for me, but for everyone. I’ve always thought it was crazy to love someone based on a mark we’ve had since we were born.” Leonard finally took his first drink, appreciating the warm, velvety milk that soothed his groggy morning throat, “The idea that you can’t love someone just because you weren’t chosen for them was always ridiculous to me. I’ve always wanted to reject the idea that someone should love me just because of a damn sign from the universe I had no say in.”
His gaze seemed more intense now, hoping you would know the gravity of the words he was trying to muster the courage to say. He was in this for the long haul, for the rest of his life. “The night I came to check on you I saw it. In the photo of you and Jim.”
You smiled at him and Leonard took a shaky breath, “Your mark is the dendrites of a multipolar neuron,” He watched your face morph as you brought your wrist to your face, gently tracing the lines with your fingers. Leonard pulled his arm out of the black thermal he was wearing, and for the first time, he turned his arm, and just below the crease of his elbow, was the finishing piece of yours, “I got the terminals of the neuron,”
“They look like plant roots,” You mused from your spot on the chair, now leaning over the arm of the chair to get a closer look, “Everything clicked that night,” Leonard stood, moving in front of you and bringing your wrist to the inside of his elbow, watching as your bodies and the image connected, “I ran away that night because I was scared. The thought of you being mine was almost too much to handle, then I saw the way you looked at me. No one had ever looked at me like that.” He was now holding your hand, watching as a slight blush consumed your cheeks. “You still look at me like that. I love you (Y/N), and the only thing I ever want is to be yours.”

You wanted to cry, you had been naked in front of Leonard before but now you felt like you had been stripped bare, you needed a break in this conversation. You could feel the heaviness in the air, making it hard to breathe. “People will say things about you Leonard. It’s happened before.”
“What? They’ll think I’m with you for the status?” Leonard puffed his chest playfully.
“No, that’s not what I’m worried about.” You straightened yourself up, now on your knees as you locked eye contact with Leonard, “You’re the CMO of the USS Enterprise, you don’t need my status. No, what I’m worried about is that you’re one of the youngest men I’ve dated, and that’s still a 9 year age difference.”
“Youngest? I told Jim they’d never let me speak at the Academy again.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, pulling him in by the front of his shirt, “I’ll have you know I am a grown adult Dr. McCoy. With a fully formed prefrontal cortex. I think I’m perfectly capable of making my own decisions.” You were hovering in front of his lips when you saw a small smile make an appearance, a knock at the door pulled two two of you out of your reverie and you groaned. Pulling away from him and grumbling under your breath all the way to your door.
James was waiting, bouncing in place as he tried seeing into your room from his angle in the hallway. “Did Leonard give you his gift?” James bounced his eyebrows up and down at you.
“If you’re talking about the potentially giant venus fly trap then, yes.” You crossed your arms over your chest.
“So, it’s giant huh?” A smirk cracking his face as he watched yours morph.
“I mean…” you paused, not knowing if Leonard wanted to tell people, before shrugging your shoulders as you fully faced James, measuring the air with your pointer fingers.
“Are you serious? Tell me you’re joking?” You slightly jumped as Leonard placed his hand on your shoulder.
“What are we joking about?” He yawned after he spoke and you knew it couldn’t have been any earlier than 0700.
“James doesn’t believe you have a big dick.” You laughed as Leonard suddenly stood straighter and seemed to tense up, you turned toward him, pulling him down for a gentle kiss, “James didn’t believe that we actually told each other how we felt.”
“Thank god you did because my next plan was to strand the two of you in a desert at night.”
“Goodbye James,” you briefly waved before closing the door and pulling Leonard into your bedroom.

Steve had been pacing around the apartment all morning. Well, pacing wasn't really the right word, Eddie would describe it more like having the same zoomies their cat Toothpaste has at 3am.
You see today was–"It's Robin Day, Eds!" As his lovely boyfriend had practically screamed in his ear at 5am. "And it will still be Robin day when you return from your job at a normal waking hour, babe."
Eddie had hoped the jog would've gotten some of the energy out of Steve's system but he seemed more hyper on his return, at least he'd brought Eddie coffee.
"Love, Robin isn't even on the plane yet."
"I know, but it's today, Eds."
Steve looked so bright it made all of Eddie's sleepiness fade away. It had been hard, living away from Robin. They'd all shared an apartment when she went away for college but by the time she got a job in New York, Steve and Eddie were not only dating finally but settled into Chicago life.
They spoke every day of course, Robin and Steve never missed a nightly catch up of the day's events, Eddie didn't even know what they'd talk about once they were in the same state again. Eddie knew Robin would always be Steve's number one and he loved that about him.
There was one other thing about today though. "Sweetheart, you know it's not just Robin Day, right?"
Steve looked confused at his boyfriend, kind of like the way a puppy looks when you move his toy.
"What could be more important about today than that."
Eddie began humming a specific tune wrapping his arms around Steve's waist. "Oh, right, my birthday, 24 isn't exactly a big deal Eds," Steve said rolling his eyes.
Eddie laughed, "Your birthday is the reason Robin's coming, sunshine, plus after the number of times we've both almost died I think every birthday is a big deal."
Steve nodded his head and returned the embrace Eddie had been giving him, "True, you think you're gonna have a quarter life crisis in August, Mr 25?"
Eddie grinned, "Oh yeah, I think imma buy a guitar and start a band." Steve laughed, while Corroded Coffin never got famous they got relatively well known in the local scene, Tuesdays were now a regular gig at The Squire downtown.
"Four hours til she lands," Steve said kissing Eddie's cheek and running upstairs to make sure the guest room was ready for the tenth time. "Still not on the plane yet!" Eddie called up laughing.
Four and a half hours later their loving room was filled with laughter and joy once more. "And then the guy asked the flight attendant for another ginger ale and Steve this man was looking green and you know how I don't deal with sick people well I'm surprised I survived the flight at all," Robin rambled filling Steve in on her flight from hell.
"Honestly, you should just move back here, save yourself the flight," Steve joked. Robin glanced at Eddie, one little birthday surprise they hadn't told Steve yet.
"Actually, my contract is ending in two weeks, and um, they offered to extend it at...their Chicago office."
Steve was frozen, if Eddie didn't know better he'd think Vecna had returned from the dead to finish them off after all these years. Then the screaming started.
"YOU'RE MOVING BACK TO CHICAGO!"
"I'M MOVING BACK TO CHICAGO!"
Pretty soon everyday would be Robin Day and with his boy looking that happy Eddie wouldn't want it any other way.

This one ran away with me but I've been wanting to write this for a while and these lyrics gave me the perfect excuse. So thanks again @serstolas! This is post-DAO and post-Alistair stories with Isabela and Varric and Sten.

“Eamon.” The doors to the advisor’s study slammed open, nearly splintering with the force. “Where is she?”
“Your Majesty?”
Eamon did a poor job of looking innocent.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about,” Alistair ground out, his jaw clenched. “After nearly a year away, I come back expecting my family to greet me. Imagine my surprise when one person is absent. Now there are other women in her rooms. Tell me where she is.”
“If you’re referring to the arcane advisor, she resigned her post some months ago,” the former arl explained, his hands crossed on his desk and his tone even. “We’re still looking for a replacement.”
“You know damn well there will be no replacement.” The king’s eyes narrowed as he stalked forward and leaned against the desk. “I don’t know what you did to get her to leave, but I will find out.”
“You are welcome to inquire, Your Majesty, but there’s nothing for you to find. Elona Amell resigned her post of her own volition.”
“No.” Alistair stalked away, gesturing as he did. “No. She would never have left our children.”
“Perhaps she knew what was best for them,” Eamon offered, “and what was best for you.”
“See? That’s exactly how I know you’re behind this.” He turned on the man, pointing his finger. “You’ve been angling for this for years.”
“It’s been five years since the two of you successfully birthed an heir,” the older man sighed. “It is time to take another lover. Elona agreed and stepped aside accordingly, as she vowed to do before you were crowned.”
“The agreement you coerced a woman into when she was powerless and vulnerable; the agreement I never approved of,” Alistair railed. “So you waited until I was gone and saw your chance.”
“I did no such thing, Your Majesty,” Eamon insisted, spreading his hands, palms out, in supplication.
“You know what? Forget it. I’ll find her myself.”
Without waiting for a response, he turned on his heel and stalked out of the room.
The last few years had been hard. They had lost more children than he could count on one hand; a few months before he left, one had nearly made it and then been born quiet and still. He had seen people close to him die, had lived through a civil war and a blight, but that loss had haunted him more deeply than any other. Worse, Elona’s smile died that day. Her lips would curl but the joy - the sparkle that lit up her eyes - never followed.
Wynne had urged him to give her time, so when the news came of Maric, it had seemed the right time to go chasing ghosts. One thing he thought he still had - would always have - was her love. Her letters had never stopped, but as time passed he could sense a shift that made him uneasy. Maybe that was why he had unraveled on that journey, doing things he never expected to do.
Yet at the end he had found his father, and as he’d sailed back toward Ferelden he had sent word. He wanted to see her–smell her hair, hear her voice, feel her heart beat beneath his fingers. Only their children and one of their minders had greeted him, little Rose lighting up like sunshine while Duncan had saluted him, as solemn and serious as ever.
When Rose launched herself at him, certain he would catch her, he had dropped everything he held to do so. She laughed against his neck, so much bigger than he remembered. “Where’s your mother?” He’d asked, not yet worried.
“Mama went on a trip,” Rose answered sweetly.
Duncan wouldn’t meet his gaze when he looked to his son to explain further.
“She said to be very good for uncle Eamon,” his daughter continued, playing with the beard he’d grown, “and to always remember that she loves us very much.”
That had set off alarm bells. “When was this?”
Rose shrugged, her braided blonde hair already coming undone. It was wild like Elona’s, and only she had ever seemed to get it tamed. “It’s been months,” Duncan finally said, frowning. “She isn’t coming back.”
In his arms, Rose’s face had fallen and scrunched up. “Nuh-uh. Mama always comes home.”
“Eamon gave away her rooms.” Duncan crossed his arms, his nose in the air like he’d won the argument.
When Rose’s lip quivered, he tickled her - she was as ticklish as her mother - and pulled a smile back out of her. “Maybe she’s hiding in the pantry with all the good cheese,” he said, and his daughter laughed at the absurdity. “Let’s go see, shall we?”
Of course Elona had not been in the pantry, and when he’d gone to her rooms he’d found foreign women who had yelped at the intrusion. An Antivan princess, a maid had revealed, and a Nevarran who was some ridiculous number in line for the throne. That had sent anger burning through him. It was one thing to give away the two rooms Elona had been given, quite another to give them to suitors he’d never give the time of day.
One thing he had learned while he was away was that life was short. The shine of adventure had given way to a yearning for the little family they had made. At night he would close his eyes and imagine them piled into their large bed while he told them stories of heroes long dead and Elona punctuated his tales with magic that made even their stoic son smile. He fell asleep to the sound of her whispering his name, her dark eyes sparkling with mirth as he pulled a satin sheet over their heads to keep the dawn at bay a little longer.
It never mattered that she was a mage, and it never would. He would spend his life happily unmarried if it meant he spent it with her. And if the Landsmeet wanted to replace him if he didn’t have a queen at his side, they were welcome to the throne.
Which she didn’t agree with, and when they argued it was usually over that. She felt he belonged on the throne - had essentially put him there - even if it meant she couldn’t stay with him. Behind his back, she had made a pact with Eamon to step aside if she was unable to bear children. At the time she had been pregnant with Duncan and Rose had come quickly after so it hadn’t mattered.
Then, suddenly, it did.
Less than twenty four hours after he’d come back, he bid his children goodbye again. Duncan crossed his arms and pretended not to care and Rose fidgeted and tried not to cry. “I’m going to find your mother,” he promised them. “We’ll be home soon.”
“Promise?” Rose asked - demanded, really - her little hands fisted into his cloak.
“Cross my heart.” He laid his hand on her head, smoothing down her red-gold hair. “Duncan–”
“We’ll be fine.” The boy grabbed his sister’s hand and tugged her back. She went willingly. “Maker speed your travels, father.”
Kinloch was a few days’ ride, but it was nice to be back in the country he knew and loved, even if it was a begrudging kind of love sometimes. They must have seen him coming because Wynne was waiting for him when he arrived. Again not the person he had wanted to see, but at least a familiar face.
“Is she here?”
The older mage had hesitated, and he could tell she was deciding whether or not to tell him the truth. She had always been protective of Elona, her protege so to speak. Their children called her grandmother.
“If she asked you not to say, I can respect that,” he offered, “but I will search the tower from top to bottom if I have to.”
“She’s upstairs,” Wynne conceded. “She can’t be moved yet.”
His brow furrowed in confusion. “Meaning what, exactly?”
With a soft sigh, Wynne motioned for him to follow her. They wound through the halls of the Circle, up stairs and down corridors, past the old rooms of the templars - a few still remained as a safety measure, but were no longer under the Chantry’s thumb - and to a room he guessed belonged to the First Enchanter based on its location and size. Before she let him in, she stopped him in the hallway.
“Be gentle, Alistair,” Wynne cautioned softly. “We almost lost her.”
Before he could ask, again, what that meant, Wynne took a key from around her neck and opened the heavy wooden doors. And then he heard it–a child’s cry. Heart in his throat he pressed forward, through a sitting room and around a corner to a bedroom that had windows, the curtains drawn back to let sunlight stream in.
In the middle of a four poster bed, Elona looked small and pale, her hair limp around her shoulders. And in her arms she soothed an infant, humming softly to it as she rocked it. As soon as its crying had ceased, another wail started up, and he looked past her to see another bundled baby at her side.
With a soft wince she shifted the first into her lap and lifted the second to her breast and he gaped like an idiot. Wynne brushed past him and lifted the first, bouncing it in her arms and moving toward the windows. Elona opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t find the words and shook her head.
Silence stretched and a tear rolled down her cheek. She wiped it away before it could fall onto the baby that ate contentedly.
“I couldn’t get their hopes up again,” she said at last, her voice hardly more than a whisper. “When I started to show, I–I didn’t know where else to go. Then I heard about the women Eamon was bringing in and I thought maybe it was for the best that I couldn’t… I know he’ll want the twins when he finds out and I can’t–please don’t take them from me.”
“Take them from you? Elle, I’m not leaving without you.” He took a slow step forward and she finally lifted her eyes to him, a cautious hope in her eyes. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“You would have come back.” Her brows knit, and she was right. He would have. “You needed to be out there, and I thought it wouldn’t matter. I thought I would lose them. I thought I was broken.”
Tears welled in her eyes and she swallowed them back, dropping her gaze back to the little blonde-haired child in her arms. The bed dipped as he finally sat, his hand finding her leg beneath the quilts. Her lips twitched into a smile that didn’t last, but when she looked back at him the sparkle had returned to her eyes.
“He always falls asleep eating,” she said, shifting the baby. Alistair reached out and took him, lifting the infant carefully into his arms.
When they’d first had Duncan, and even with Rose, he had been scared that he’d hurt them with his big, dumb hands. Babies were surprisingly resilient for looking so fragile. They were also excellent sleepers.
“Hello, there, I’m your father,” he greeted, brushing his finger along a plump cheek. With a little teasing smile he bent closer to the baby. “I think.”
His reward was laughter, a sound he hadn’t heard in far too long, and his chest squeezed.
“I named him Maric,” Elona confessed, “but if you’d prefer to not–”
“He looks like a Maric,” Alistair agreed.
“Your father told me you were coming home,” she added in a whisper, tears again in her eyes. “I thought it was just a dream, but…I think it was him, in the Fade. He asked me to look after you.”
For a minute it was hard to breathe and all he could manage was a nod.
“I was dead,” she said after a moment, and his head jerked up in surprise. “He sent me back.”
“Elle–”
“It was a difficult pregnancy,” she pressed on, answering him before he could ask. “The delivery… I told them if it became a choice, the babies were the priority. Wynne saved us all.”
“And I’d do it all again,” the elder mage said, finally moving away from the windows with the other twin. She handed the second baby back to its mother and excused herself before Alistair could convey his gratitude.
“I should have been here,” he managed, swallowing the lump in his throat.
“No,” she insisted gently. “You were where you needed to be.”
“If you’d died–”
“I didn’t.” She laid her head back against the pillows and the baby in her arms played with her hair. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you got home.”
“I’m not going to lie and say I wasn’t a blubbering idiot on the way back to Ferelden,” he chuckled. “I missed you, Elona.”
“I’ve missed you, too,” she balanced her baby in one arm so she could reach out to him, and he twined their fingers before he brought her knuckles to his lips. “You look handsome with a beard.”
“Varric disagrees. He says I look like a child playing dress-up.” His lips rose in a lopsided grin. “But if you like it, my lady…”
“We’ll see how it looks with a trim and a haircut,” she mused. “Unless you want to grow it out.”
With a scoff he shook his head. “It’s driving me crazy, I just didn’t trust myself to cut it.”
The baby in her arms began to fuss and she shrugged a shoulder out of her gown. “This is Moira.”
“That night before I left… They’re a month old?” She hummed a small confirmation, her eyes closed. “When did you know?”
“I think it was around the time you were in Tevinter. By the time I heard from Sten I was here in Kinloch.”
“He wrote you, did he?”
“Around the time you all left from Seheron. He said he was sorry for giving you that scar.” They shared a smile. “He was worried about you.”
“I know,” Alistair conceded. “He’s a good friend.”
Silence settled between them, and he moved to sit beside her against the headboard, one arm around her and the other holding his sleeping son. She settled against him with a soft sigh, and for the first time in months everything felt right again. He had his family back–most of them.
“Rose and Duncan miss you,” he conveyed. “I should have brought them with me.”
“I’d want to hold them, and I’d probably end up bleeding everywhere again.” She said it lightly, but she still winced when she shifted. “A few more days, a little more healing from Ferelden’s best healer, and I should be able to manage a carriage ride.”
“That’ll give Eamon time to clear out your rooms.”
“Alistair–”
“Elona, don’t,” he begged. “Do you know how furious I was to get back and find all trace of you gone? Duncan said you weren’t coming back and I thought I was going to lose my mind.”
“It’s never going to stop,” she whispered sadly. “They’re always going to want a queen at your side, no matter how many children we have.”
“Then I’ll give them one.” He laid his cheek on the top of her head. “I came back to Ferelden to be a good and proper king. Come back to Denerim with me as the king-consort.”
“I’m a mage.”
“Oh, that’s right. Silly me, I forgot.”
How many times had they gone round and round on the issue?
“You said you want to be a proper king, doesn’t that include a proper queen?”
With a finger beneath her chin he tilted her head back so he could look her in the eye. “There’s no one else I’d have at my side. It’s you or no one, Elle, and I really don’t want to do this alone.”
Slowly the hesitance in her eyes gave way to acceptance. “Together, then.”
Lips against her forehead, he breathed a sigh of relief. “Together.”

Prologue
"Yes, of course, Mr. Choi," you said to the last parent, Choi Yeonjun, who picked up his kid and informed you of a new allergy his son had.
Waving him off until you were out of sight, you sighed and walked back into the daycare with that sullen face of yours.
"Bored again?" your friend, Jeon Soyeon, asked.
"Outta my mind. The most exciting thing that's happened to me all my life was getting accepted to do this job." you mumbled, playing with the straw from your coffee.
"Let's go out tonight," Seoyeon's eyes light up yet dim once she sees you shake your head.
"Can't. I have to pay my rent and can't unless I take my shift at that fancy restaurant tonight. Which means," you grabbed your stuff and stood, "I gotta go. I'll see you tomorrow, Soso!" You hugged Soyeon and made your way outside.
You walked to the bus stop and waited there patiently, ignoring anybody who attempted to have conversation with you by making sure your airpods were visible.
It wasn't until some guy forcefully ripped one out of your ear that you turned around, absolutely furious.
"What the fuck, dude?!" you shouted, snatching the device back.
"I'm trying to talk to you! Goddamn, fucking slut!" the older man shouted.
"Excuse me?" you said. The hell crawled up his ass tonight?
"I said," the man grunted, coming closer till his hand touched your breast.
Absolutely appalled, you pushed him backwards with a disgusted expression.
"Don't touch me." you said firmly, feeling slightly disgusted with yourself.
How could you let him touch you like that?
"D-did you just push me?" he asked, anger filling his voice.
Just as you were about to start running away from the man, who seemed to be firing up to touch you once more, you heard the man shout in pain.
You turned around only to find another older, but definitely younger than the man who groped you, man squatting over the handsy one.
"Repeat after me," he said to the man on the floor, "'I will not touch women or men without consent'." The old man repeated it and the other one smiled, tapping the olders cheek.
"Good job. Now get out of here before I call someone." The man said, turning to watch the other run away.
"Miss!" he shouted, standing. "You dropped your wallet, dear." He handed it to you with a smile.
"I'm sorry for pervs like him. Not all men act like that."
"Thank you," you whispered, still a little shocked.
This guy sounded to be about in his late thirties to early forties.
His looks? He easily could pass as a 24 year old.
Maybe he was.
"I understand if you aren't completely comfortable or convinced I'm good because I am older." He said, a chuckle escaping his perfect lips.
He was older than you? Really?
"You're older?" you asked instinctively, slapping a hand to your mouth instantly.
"I'm sorry, I-"
"No, it's okay. But yeah, I can tell you're in your early twenties. I'm 36." he explained, shocking you.
You're 23 and he's 36 yet he looks like he's just 2 years older than you.
You thought him to be 25 at max.
Never 36.
"Wow."
"I know, right? I'm old!" He laughed.
"No! Not like that! I'm saying I just thought you were a lot younger.." you mumbled, looking down at your shoes.
"Really? How young?" he asked, interested.
"I thought you were at max 25."
"No way. Thank you so much!" he laughed again, you joining this time.
"Of course. I hope the fact I've been informal hasn't disrespected you at all." you rush in, forgetting that he was an elder.
"Nah, don't sweat it. I'm not huge on the whole "formalities" thing. I have 7 other shit heads i'm with daily and they don't respect them often anyways."
"7 kids?!" you asked, astounded.
"No, god no! Friends. One of the 7 is my hyung but that's it." he smiled, turning his head to face the incoming bus.
"I actually don't need to take the bus. I just stayed to make sure that guy wouldn't come back and try again. You have a nice night, though." He chuckled before walking off.
You got in the bus and sat in the furthest seat, needing to distance yourself from everyone to properly think.
That guy was hot. Hotter than any other 36 year old you've ever seen.
You knew you weren't gonna see him again but, there was a sliver of hope that kept you up all night.
The hope being that he has a kid to bring in to your daycare.
And I guess the universe was listening.

Summary: It's Lewis's birthday, and you never fail to make him feel old on his special day.
Note: First of all, I want to thank all of you for showing your love for my first-ever story on here. It means a lot!!! Also, I'm trying my best to write new stories based on your requests, but I'm currently in my exam period, so things might go slower. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this short fic!

It's currently 4 o'clock in the morning and Lewis is sound asleep next to me in bed. Why am I up so early already? Well it's my favourite human's birthday today and I want to make this day special for him. Knowing that Lewis always wakes up at around 6 o'clock for his early morning workouts made me get up early to decorate the house and get his favourites for his birthday.
I bought all the decorations last night and did a pretty good job at hiding it from Lewis. Starting by blowing up all the balloons and hanging them around the place followed by the rest of the decoration. If there is one thing that Lewis doesn't like, it's seeing his age on display. So that's exaclty what I did. I bought the numbers 39 in a big form and hung them on the most noticable place in the house to tease him even more.
After I was done with decorating the place I went out and went to the store to buy the last few things that were needed, thank God 24/7 hour stores are a thing otherwise I would've been fucked. While strolling along the aisles I can't help but find the perfect gift for Lewis. It was a dog shirt with the words 'Grandpa's favourite boy' displayed on it, promising myself to get Roscoe to wear it later. After getting the last things I went back home knowing that it was almost time for Lewis to wake up.
Putting everything on the counter i start to prepare his birthday breakfast with all his favourites in it. I still had plenty of time since I already wrapped his gifts yesterday, so in the meantime while I was making his breakfast I quickly took the dog shirt out for Roscoe to wear. He looked so adorable but I couldn't help but laugh at the shirt. I don't think Lewis would even be surprised since I've been teasing him about his age non stop.
While putting the last things on the table I felt two strong hands wrap around my waist. "Babe you went all out this year"
Lewis exclaimed. "Well it's my favourite old man's birthday I had to make it special." I added. Lewis groans "Love are you seriously still making fun of me?" I gasped but it was quickly followed by my laugh. "I would never!"
"I just wanted to celebrate you getting closer to the forties" Lewis groans again. "Babe seriously stop that I'm still in my thirties and that's what matters and also you're just 10 years younger then me your time will come as well"
"Jeez Lewis you're making it sound as if I'm about to die or something but for now I'm happily enjoying my twenties" I say pecking his lips and leading him to the breakfast table.
"Babe there was no need to put those numbers up there" Lewis exclaimes. "Well you're an old man now I had to remind you before you forget" I say with a laugh.
Lewis groans even more. "You're never letting it go are you?" "Ofcourse not old man!". "But babe on a serious note you didn't have to do all this" He said coming over to me and kissing me passionately. "But i wanted to since you deserve the world Lew" I tell him with a peck to his lips.
"Thanks beautifull I love you!" He adds "And I love you too My old man. Soon the kiss turned into a makeout session when Lewis breaks the kiss and adds "Well after all this I would love for this birthday gift to be taken to the bedroom"
Smirking I jump on to him with both my legs secured around his waist. But before we could go any further Roscoe pops up and starts barking for our attention. Lewis puts me down and both of our attention is on Roscoe.
"Hey old guy, did you want to wish your dad a happy birthday as well?" Lewis says while scratching behind Roscoe's ears. But then Lewis freezes noticing the shirt I put on Roscoe earlier. He turns to me, but I was already out of sight, running for my life.
"Y/N ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?"

24 BBY. 5 YEARS BEFORE.
The Coruscant sun warmly illuminated the training room in the Jedi Temple. The sounds of lightsabers clashing against each other filled the room, your breaths agitated as you and Anakin tried to avoid each other's blades.
Although you were still Padawans, you were both considered among the best of your generation. That's why you enjoyed training together so much, pushing each other to improve.
From a corner, Obi-wan and Plo Koon watched the two of you closely, closely analyzing every technique and move you used.
“Let the force guide you, so you can prevent every attack.” Your master's warm voice advised you.
Anakin lunged at you, but you leapt, elegantly dodging him. You smiled when he rolled his eyes.
“She has improved quite a bit.” Obi-wan spoke softly to your master.
You tried to concentrate on the match, but having the man you had a giant crush on talking about you wasn't making it easy.
And of course, your best friend noticed. “You look distracted.”
You scoffed, shaking your head. “Of course not.”
But when he charged another attack at you, this time aiming his blade at your side, you barely managed to block it, losing your balance.
Anakin raised an eyebrow, with a victorious grin. “Told you.”
You could still feel Obi-wan's gaze on you, but you tried to concentrate as much as possible, until you managed to disarm Anakin.
“Seems like I won today.” You smirked, extending your hand towards your friend to help him up. He grunted, accepting your help.
You both turned to the masters, who were approaching you. “Great job, padawans.” Obi-wan congratulated you, nodding to both of you. But his gaze settled on you. “You've made quite a progress. Keep it up and you'll be very successful.”
You felt your cheeks heat up, and tried to cover it with a slight bow. “Thank you, master.” You just hoped no one had noticed.
But Plo Koon did. He looked at you with his head bowed in confusion, though he decided not to say anything. “That was all. You both did very well. We'll leave you to practice on your own.”
With a final bow, you watched as the masters departed, your heart racing at what you had just experienced.
Once they were gone, Anakin dropped to the ground with an exaggerated sigh. “You're lucky. But I let you win.”
You chuckled, lying down next to him. “Yeah, right. Keep dreaming.”
You closed your eyes, catching your breath. When you opened them again, you found your friend staring out the window, nostalgic.
“Are you alright?” You sat up.
“Yeah, it's just...” He sighed, his gaze lost in a fixed point. “I was thinking about Padmé. See that? That's the Senate building. She must be there...”
You looked at him, somewhere between amused and incredulous. “Oh, Force. Ani, again? You haven't seen her in years.”
“Yes, again.” He turned to look at you. “She's so special. Even if twenty years pass, I don't think I would be able to forget her.” He sighed. “Didn't you see her when she was queen, on Naboo?”
“Ani, I left Naboo when I was three. She wasn't queen at that time. And I don't remember anything about the planet either.”
“Well, you should. It's beautiful. And she's even more so.” You couldn't help but chuckle at how dramatic he was. “Oh, of course you're amused. You could never understand.”
“Why would you say that?” You arched an eyebrow.
He smirked. “Because you've never been in love, obviously.”
You scoffed. “And who makes you think I never have?”
Anakin looked at you in surprise, and that's when you realized you'd said too much. “Are you trying to tell me that you have fallen in love with someone?”
You laughed nervously. “Of course not... That's not my point.”
“Oh, no. Now you have to tell me.” He sat down next to you, curiously.
“It's just a silly crush... It doesn't mean anything.”
“Come on. You have to tell me who he is.” He shook you by the shoulders. “You know about Padmé, it's only fair you tell me who you're in love with.”
You rolled your eyes, knowing he'd insist to exhaustion. “It's... It's going to be weird, okay?”
He looked at you with intrigue. “It's not... me, is it?”
You pushed him. “Of course not, dumbass. That's gross.” You groaned. You were cornered. “Okay, it's... Ugh, it's Obi-wan.”
His amused smile was wiped away in an instant, turning disgusted.
“That's- gross! He's my master! Like- my father! You like my father?”
You chuckled at his reaction, your cheeks completely red. “It's not like that! Well... maybe a bit yes. But he's not your father!”
He covered his face with his hands. “But why! What do you see in him?”
“Well... he's a great Jedi, he's amazing, and his force mark is very warm, when you see him you feel like everything will be okay and... he's so... handsome.”
Anakin groaned. “Oh, force. I don't know why I asked. I'll have nightmares.”
You laughed at his words. “You act like something is going to happen. Please Ani, he doesn't even know I exist. He just sees me as Plo Koon's Padawan and your best friend.”
“Well, he better. Both of you.”
The two of you remained in a comfortable silence for a few seconds, until he spoke again. “Do you think Padmé still remembers me?”
You couldn't help but chuckle. “Probably. Maybe someday you'll see her again, who knows.”
Anakin nodded. “Ready for a rematch?”
You ignited your blade with a proud smile. “Oh, I'm ready to beat you again.”
Your days at the temple were routine again. Train, teach, meditate, eat, repeat. Hell, you were even a little bored. As much as you hated to admit it... You missed being aboard a ship, floating in hyperspace for hours, reaching a distant planet and destroying droids.
You felt that Jedi values had changed quite a bit. When you were a Padawan, and the galaxy was at peace, you never thought anything like this would happen. To be a general in a war? It was crazy.
You were walking through the Temple, fresh from your first class of the morning. It was being a pretty quiet day, at least for now. You had woken up in your boyfriend's arms, sleepy smiles and soft kisses. But unfortunately he had to leave early for - yet another - meeting with the Council.
A force mark you would recognize anywhere brought you out of your thoughts. You turned, finding your best friend walking towards you.
“Anakin!” You started walking towards him, a smile lighting up your face, until it slowly faded as you felt his emotions through the Force.
“It's... so good to see you.” You looked at him with concern. “I wanted to look for you, but I figured you were busy. Are you... okay?”
He sighed. “I was named member of the High Council.”
Your eyes widened with surprise and confusion again. “They named you master? That's incredible news, Ani.”
You were about to go over to hug him, but he took a step back, denying. “No. I'm still a knight.”
“What?” You furrowed your brows, sensing the anger in his voice and in the Force. “Is that even possible?”
His jaw clenched. “No. It's a complete disrespect. I've done more than many Jedi Masters. I've saved lives, won battles. And this is how I get paid?”
“Ani, calm down.” You said softly. “I'm sure the Council had their reasons, but they're going to name you soon. It's what you deserve, after all.”
He scoffed. “That's easy for you to say. But we're not all the Council's favorites.”
This hit you like a bucket of cold water. You looked at him in dismay, trying to find the right words. “You're speaking from your anger. You think I don't understand you? We've always been in this together, Anakin.”
“That's a lie. From the moment they made you master, we no longer were. Why would they do that? You haven't even had a Padawan. I have.”
“I didn't ask to be one.” You were fighting with all your strength to keep yourself calm. “It just happened, and I'm sure soon you be will too-” You couldn't finish, for Anakin interrupted you.
“And here we go again. You're defending them. What about me? Wasn't I your best friend? You'll never understand how I feel. Do you know what it's like to try hard, to give your all and still not have it be enough?”
You looked at him in disbelief. “Of course I do. Force, Anakin. You know all too well my struggles with the Council. I've had to prove myself time and time again.” You took a deep breath, you were beginning to raise your voice. “I've always been here for you, why are you attacking me out of nowhere?”
That calmed him down. He looked down at the floor, embarrassed. “I'm sorry. I- I didn't mean to...” He sighed. “I have to go.”
And he walked away, leaving you confused and angry. What was happening to him? That wasn't Anakin.
You weren't blind, you knew the war had affected him. All of you. But that didn't justify him behaving like a complete idiot.
You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn't notice someone approaching you until you bumped into each other. Immediately, you felt strong arms holding you, stopping a possible fall.
When you looked up, you met Obi-wan's soft gaze.
“Darling.”
Your eyes widened in surprise, glancing sideways to make sure you were alone. Luckily, you were. But you didn't want to take any chances.
“Master Kenobi.”
He laughed a little. “Are we formal?”
You nudged him, rolling your eyes. “Someone may come.” You scanned your surroundings, grabbing his hand and stepping into an empty room.
When the door closed behind him, you noticed he was looking at you with concern. He took a step forward, stroking your cheek. “Are you alright?”
You leaned into his touch, his warm hand immediately comforting you. “Yeah, I just... I argued with Anakin.”
His expression clouded, immediately realizing what was going on. “I guess you heard, then.”
“What happened?”
He sighed, taking your hand, tracing circles on it. “The Chancellor named Anakin his representative on the Council.”
Your eyes widened in surprise. “Is that even possible?”
Obi-wan shook his head. “No. The Chancellor does not have the authority to interfere in the affairs of the Council. But given the circumstances... It was decided to give him a seat, but without giving him the rank of master.”
“That's why he's so upset.”
“Yes, and...” He hesitated for a second, as if debating whether or not to mention it. “He was given an extra-official mission by the Council.”
“What is it?”
“They want Anakin to spy on the Chancellor.”
You brought a hand to your mouth. “What?”
“Palpatine has gained a lot of power in the years of war. We suspect something is wrong... We can no longer ignore it.”
“Obi-wan. The Chancellor is like a mentor to Anakin. He's one of the closest people he has... He's not going to take this well.”
“I know. I know because I already told him.”
You folded your arms, worried. “He must see it as treason.”
He took your hands between his, and rested them on his chest. “That's why I'm telling you this. Please keep an eye on him.” His voice was troubled. “You're his best friend. He trusts you.”
You closed your eyes, processing the situation. The last thing you wanted was to be in the middle of this. But you wouldn't leave your friend alone either.
You nodded slowly. “I will.”
And before you could say anything else, you felt him pulling you in, wrapping you in a warm embrace. “Thank you, sweetheart. Really.”
You sank your face into his robe, snuggling against his body. At times like this, in his arms, you could pretend everything was okay. No war, no Jedi Order, no pregnancy. Just you and him.
“ Everything will be alright.” He whispered into your hair. And you, if only for a second, believed him. You actually managed to think everything was going to get better.
A few seconds later, he broke away, leaving a kiss on your forehead. “I'll look for you later, okay?”
You nodded, even though your whole being was screaming at you to go into his arms again.
His fingers slipped from yours before finally releasing you. He gave you one last look, with the smile that always reassured you.
When the door closed behind him, you let out a half-hearted sigh, leaning your back against the wall.
At what moment had things come to this point?
You placed your hand on your belly, caressing it gently. You have to be strong. For your baby.
You didn't know what, but something in the Force felt... different. Your instincts told you something big was about to happen. But you couldn't figure out what.
You took a deep breath, mentally preparing yourself to go about your day. You couldn't let this get to you.
You were sitting on the floor of your quarters, trying to meditate. It was already night, the window was open and you could appreciate the stars in the sky of Coruscant.
You breathed deeply, trying to connect with the Force. But for some reason you couldn't. Something had changed. Something you couldn't quite figure out, but it felt... dense.
You sighed. You wouldn't be able to meditate today. You opened your eyes, which focused on the holoprojector in front of you. You debated for a moment before turning it on.
A few seconds later, the kind face of your master appeared. “My dear.”
You smiled at him. “Hello, master. Apologies for calling you... You must be busy in battle.”
“Oh, don't worry, my dear. I'm on the ship. And if you decided to call your old master, it must be for a good reason.”
You chuckled a little, nodding. “Yes...well, I felt I had to call you. Something in the force just- told me to.”
He watched you. He was your master, he knew you better than anyone. And he knew something was wrong. “Are you all right, my dear?”
You bit your cheek. Of course he was going to notice. “I don't know.” You looked down. “There's something... Something's going on. In the force. I can feel it and it's... overwhelming.”
“The force is unpredictable, my child. It is constantly changing; it never stands still.” His eyes, though covered by his mask, were kind.
You sighed. “I know, master. But this is different. Something bad is going to happen, I know it.”
He watched you for a moment, reading you as only he could. “Don't let fear cloud you.”
“It's not- fear.” Your voice weakened. You were lying.
His voice softened. “The force is preparing you. And you're already ready for whatever comes.”
“How are you so sure?”
“Because you're my padawan. Because I took you in when you were a little girl and I've watched you grow into the strong woman you are now.” He was being sincere. You could feel it in your bond. “And no matter what happens, I will always be proud of you.”
You felt a lump in your throat, your eyes filling with tears. “Thank you, master.”
“It's late on Coruscant. You should rest.”
You nodded. “May the force be with you, my padawan.”
“And with you, master.”
The blue light that illuminated your face faded, leaving you in total darkness. You swallowed saliva, trying to process the conversation you had just had.
You wiped your tears with the back of your hand. You weren't a child anymore, you had to be strong.
Suddenly, you heard your door open, and Obi-wan's warm force mark flooded your room.
He took off his robe, coming to sit beside you on the floor. “Hello, my love.”
He brushed a lock of hair away from your face, kissing your forehead. “Are you okay?”
You took a deep breath, nodding and forcing a smile. “Yes... I was trying to meditate.”
If Obi-wan noticed your red eyes, he said nothing. Instead, he took your hand gently. “It's late, love. Let's go to bed.”
You had to catch him.
Anakin's footsteps echoed in your ears as he marched through the Jedi Temple.
“Ani! Anakin!” you shouted, but your voice was lost in the corridors. He didn't turn around, but you weren't sure if he was ignoring you or if he didn't hear you.
You quickened your pace, but the further you went, the distance between you grew.
“Anakin, wait!” you felt the corridors becoming smaller with each step you took. The air was thicker, it was hard for you to breathe properly.
Yet you were still following him. You didn't know why, but you had to stop him. Your whole being was screaming at you.
The walls were closing in, so much so that you could now hold on to both of them to move forward, because the suffocating sensation was getting worse and worse and it was difficult to walk.
Suddenly, you felt your body buckle from the pain. You clutched your chest, an intense pang coursing through your heart, sending a nauseous sensation through you.
You gasped, forcing yourself to keep going. But when you looked up, Anakin was gone.
The hallway had returned to normal, but... blood stained the wall.
At first it was just a small drop, and as it slid down, it grew larger and larger, until it completely covered the place.
A shiver ran down your spine. You looked around, you could hear screams in the distance, screams of pain. But when you tried to look for where they came from, you were simply... incapable.
You wanted to run, to scream, to throw yourself to the ground. But it was as if something was holding you down, forcing you to stay still.
Suddenly, a hand touched your shoulder.
You turned with a lump in your throat, it was your master. He was there, his kind face and warm presence. But something wasn't right. He looked like... he was deforming.
“Remember, my padawan.” His voice echoed through the shouts, but it was distorted. “I will always be proud of you.”
You awoke with a jump, your heart pounding desperately and your breathing quickening.
You immediately felt Obi-wan sitting next to you, his warm presence comforting you.
The first sob came out of your mouth, and his arms immediately wrapped around you.
“Hey, darling. Look at me.”
But you weren't listening. Your body was shaking, your ears ringing, making your head throb uncomfortably.
You could feel that he was talking, but it came out as a faint murmur amidst a lot of noise.
“Love.” He cupped your cheeks, forcing you to make eye contact with him. Your breathing was rapid, panting.
“Breathe. Like this, see?” You followed his rhythm, his kind but concerned eyes helping you focus.
After a few minutes, your breathing had returned to normal. “That's good. That's it, love. You did very well.”
He brushed a lock away from your face and you cuddled into his chest, his strong, warm arms around you, protecting you.
“I'm sorry. It was just... a nightmare.”
He shook his head, pressing a kiss to your hair. “It's okay, love. It's okay now. I'm here.”
You nodded, your heart still racing.
“Do you want to talk about it?” His voice was soft and understanding. One of the things you loved most about Obi-wan.
“No... I just want to go back to sleep.”
He nodded, and you both lay back down on the bed. Your head rested on his neck, breathing in his familiar scent.
He left a kiss on your forehead, his hands gently caressing your waist. “Rest, love. I've got you.”
The sound of your holocomm brought you out of your thoughts. You were in your quarters, reporting on the latest battle. Although you were actually dozing off. After last night's incident, you hadn't been able to get to sleep.
The mid-morning sun was streaming through your window. Obi-wan had left quite early, the Council had called him away for an urgent meeting.
Sighing, you answered the call. Your commander materialized in blue light, his helmet on. ‘General, can you meet me at the GAR hangar?’
You raised an eyebrow, but nodded. “Of course, Commander.”
The ride was short, but you were confused. Why would Forge call you to the hangar? Everyone was on break.
When you arrived, clones from your battalion were everywhere, loading supplies and weapons onto the Neptune, your ship.
You looked around, some of them stopping to greet you before continuing on their way. They looked in a hurry. ‘What the-?’
In the distance, you spotted Forge, who was on the side of the ship, giving instructions to some shinies. As you approached, they left and he gave you a military salute. ‘General.’
‘Forge.’ You didn't know where to start. Surely, your confusion showed on your face.
And Forge noticed, for he raised an eyebrow. ‘’Are you... alright?’
‘What-what's going on?’
‘Um, we're preparing for the mission, sir.’
‘What mission?’ Your eyebrows furrowed.
“You... didn't know?” The clone was silent for a few seconds. Surely he had realized he screwed up.
“What mission, Forge?” you insisted.
“We were sent to Mygeeto. As reinforcements for General Mundi.” He ran a hand through his hair, almost nervous at your reaction.
You looked around the room. You hadn't expected the Council to send battalions overseas so soon, especially after the Battle of Coruscant. Yet your men looked ready to leave.
And you were just standing there, like a fool.
“How... How had I not been informed of this?”
“General Windu said you had another mission, and that's why you wouldn't be able to lead us.”
You took a deep breath, trying to contain your emotions. “A mission? I don't have any-”
You stopped when you felt yourself raising your voice. You sighed. “Alright. I'll talk to the Council. If they made this decision, it will have been for a good reason.”
You ignored the pain in your chest. If the Council had chosen this, it meant Obi-wan knew about it. And he hadn't told you anything.
He nodded, his eyes looking concerned at you. “I'm sorry, General. But... You look terrible.”
That at least made you laugh a little. “Believe me, I know. I'm exhausted.”
He gave you a sad smile. You both remained silent for a few seconds, not quite knowing what to do. In the end, you shook your head. “I guess I should be going. You guys are pretty busy here.”
He nodded, hesitating before speaking again. “Just so you know, General... If I had known, I would have fought for you to join us. Our loyalty is to you.”
Your chest felt warm and you nodded, swallowing the lump that had formed in your throat. “Thank you, Forge. I truly appreciate it.”
He gave you a military salute. “May the force be with you, General.”
“And with you, Commander.”
You watched as he returned to the ship, stepping back silently. You had so many questions on your mind... You had to return to the temple immediately.
However, as you were walking through the corridors of the building, you felt someone pulling you. You gasped, everything had gone dark out of nowhere. You were in the service closet. And in front of you was...
“Obi-wan?” You looked at him in confusion. His chest was rising and falling quickly, as if he had run here.
He gave you a sweet smile. “Forgive me, love. I knew you were going to be here, and...”
“You knew.” You interrupted him, and he took a step back. You had caught him off guard.
“Darling...”
“You knew my battalion was leaving today, why didn't you tell me?” your voice was harsh.
“The orders came today, at the morning meeting. Reinforcements were urgently needed, and I wanted to tell you, but...”
“Forge said I wouldn't be able to go because I had a mission, what was he talking about?”
His expression became serious, but he hesitated. He was nervous, you knew him too well. “The Council decided to assign you an unofficial mission.” Your brows furrowed. “ They want- you to keep an eye on Anakin.”
Those words hit you like an icy bucket of water. “What?”
“I had already told you, love.”
“Yes, and I agreed, but I thought you were asking me out of your concern for Anakin. Not because the Council had sent you.” You folded your arms.
“I am concerned about Anakin. And so is the Council.”
“They're locking me out of a mission with my battalion, with my men. And they didn't even bother to tell me.” You took a deep breath, trying to calm your emotions.
He ran a hand through his hair, frustrated. “I know, and that's why I fought for you. But the decision was already made.”
You looked at him for a few seconds. “And what am I supposed to do, spy on him?”
“No, no. Just- keep an eye on him. You can talk to him... or Padmé. I went to see her in the morning, but she didn't tell me much. You two... you're close. She trusts you more.”
You scoffed. “And what am I supposed to do, report my friend's personal business to the Council?”
He winced. “If you feel something is wrong, you tell me. I'll take care of it.”
You closed your eyes, analyzing. Finally you sighed, nodding reluctantly. “Fine. But I'm not doing it for the Council. I'm doing it because Anakin is my friend.”
He gently grabbed your waist, pulling your bodies closer together in an embrace. Even though you were upset, you couldn't pull away. Sometimes you hated how comforting Obi-wan's force mark was.
“Forgive me. I didn't intend to fight.” He whispered, his thumbs stroking your waist and belly. It was a familiar gesture. You felt him pull away, but you stayed wrapped around him for a few seconds longer.
When you came out of his arms, he was looking at you, his lips parted and brows furrowed. He was probably waiting for you to say something. “It's okay. It's not your fault.” You smiled a little at him, and then a doubt popped into your mind. “What are you doing here anyway? We could have talked at the Temple.”
Obi-wan blinked a couple of times, as if his mind had been in another world. “Oh, yes. Actually, I... I was coming to say goodbye.”
Your heart stopped for a second. “To... Say goodbye?”
He took your hands in his. “Grievous has been located. He is on Utapau, and the Council chose me to stop him.”
Your lips parted in surprise. Oh.
The war was one step away from being over, and Obi-wan would be in charge.
You were proud, of course. He was the best.
But still, everything inside you was begging you not to let him go. To be selfish and have someone else sent away, but not the man you loved.
You swallowed saliva with difficulty, you had a huge lump in your throat. “You're going to... stop the war, then.” You forced a smile, your voice was cracking.
“If all goes well, yes.”
His words echoed throughout your insides. And you knew there was a chance that this was the last time you would see him. A small one, but it was there.
And of course, you were in a war. There was always that possibility. But this time it felt different.
Your foreheads pressed together, feeling the warm presence of the other enveloping both of you.
You didn't say anything, but you didn't have to. Your force mark spoke for yourselves.
Please don't go.
Don't let me go.
But you knew very well that this was not your decision to make.
“Be careful, please.” His hands rested on yours, which were on his cheeks.
“Always.” He left a kiss on your forehead and gave you one of his reassuring smiles. “I'll be back before you know it.”
You nodded, watching as he walked to the door. But before he could open it, you called him again. “Obi-wan.”
“Yes?”
“I love you.”
The elevator doors opened, materializing Padmé's living room. Your friend stood there, looking out the window. She was dressed in elegant attire, surely she had just arrived from the Senate.
You had finished your last class of the day and decided to visit her, considering your conversation with Obi-wan.
Again, you were doing this for your friend. You cared about him. Not the Council.
She turned, calling your name. ”Dear. How nice to see you.”
You moved in for a hug, your gaze dropping down to her wide robe, to cover her tummy. “Likewise. We haven't seen each other since... well.” Your hand rested on your own belly, which was still unnoticeable.
She smiled tenderly at you, but you noticed that her gaze was somewhat lost.
“It's true. And I have a lot to tell you.” She took your arm gently. “Come, sit down. Would you like something to drink? Maybe some tea?”
You looked at her cautiously, her hands were playing with the fabric of her robe. “Uhm, yes. Tea would be nice.” Padmé called out to Threepio, who immediately went towards the kitchen.
She exhaled, settling into the armchair. “You didn't... run into Anakin on your way up?”
You raised an eyebrow. “He was here?”
“Yes... But the Chancellor called him.”
“The... Chancellor?” you mumbled, your mind flashing back to the conversation you'd had with Obi-wan.
She nodded, her gaze distracted. “Yeah... I guess they told you about the Council stuff. Anyway,” She looked to you. “You have a lot to tell me... Have you told Obi-wan yet?”
You knew it was a tactic to evade the subject, but her voice sounded genuinely interested, so you decided not to press her. Yet.
“Uhm... No, not yet.” You lowered your gaze. “I was going to, but with the whole Grievous thing, and the war being at its end point, I decided to wait.”
She frowned. “Wait?”
“Yes... He's already under a lot of stress. I want to wait for the most appropriate time.”
“Dear,” She took your hand. “You know there's no such thing as the right time, right?”
You sighed. “I know. But I feel it's not time yet. The Force tells me so.”
She smiled a little, nodding. “If you feel it in the Force, then I believe you. But don't wait too long.”
You nodded. “Well, what about Anakin? I'm guessing you've already told him. And if not, then he probably figured it out.”
“Yeah, he already knows. He's very excited.” You noticed her smile didn't reach her eyes.
“Padmé.” Your eyebrows furrowed. “I know you. Did something happen?”
She hesitated, but just as she was about to say something, Threepio arrived with the teas.
When the droid was gone, Padmé took a sip, and you watched her expectantly. After a few seconds of silence, she finally spoke.
“Obi-wan came by this morning. To ask me about Anakin.” She licked her lips, thinking carefully over her words. “Are you here to do the same?”
You raised your eyebrows, surprised. Obviously she would notice, your friend is not naive. “Yes.” You nodded, exhaling. “Padmé... We're worried about Ani. Something's going on with him. You know that, don't you?”
She lowered her gaze. “I... I don't know what you're talking about.”
She was in denial, you knew. You took her hand, intertwining her fingers with yours, forcing her to meet your eyes. “Please. I want to help him.”
Taking a deep breath, she nodded. And told you everything. The doubts towards the council, his trust to Palpatine, and his ambition to have more. You noticed she was still holding some things back, but decided not to mention it. The information you had was enough so far.
When she finished, she took a sip of her tea. Her hands were shaking slightly. “He's not like that... He's so different from the man I married.”
You felt a lump in your throat. “I thought it was because of the war. We've all changed. But this...”
“He's still there.” Her voice was determined, but you could sense she wasn't entirely sure. “The Ani we love is there, we just have to be there for him.”
“You're right. He has to know that the people who love him support him.”
She nodded, and without another word, leaned toward you.
You both hugged each other for a few seconds, letting the warmth of the other comfort you. You closed your eyes, instantly relaxing. “It's going to be okay.”
When you pulled apart, she gave you a soft smile. “Thank you for caring.”
“You know I'll always be there for both of you.”
After another quick hug, you stood up. “I should probably get going. If I see Anakin, I'll try to talk to him.”
“Okay, you go carefully.”
You drove to the temple, leaving the speeder in the hangar. As usual, there were several clones there, loading supplies onto the ships.
You remembered this morning, when you saw Forge and your men leave on a mission without you. You wondered how they were doing, perhaps you would call your commander later, to see if all was well.
And inevitably, you also remembered Obi-wan. By this point, he would surely have reached Utapau. You silently asked the Force to protect him. You knew he was more than capable, but that didn't stop you from worrying.
You walked along the platform, waving to the troopers and jedi you recognized. In the distance, you spotted Anakin, who was talking to Mace Windu and other members of the Council.
You moved a little closer, but not close enough to interrupt. Master Windu was saying something to your friend, before boarding a ship with the rest of the masters.
You took the opportunity to reach Anakin, but as you did so, you felt a great change in the Force. And it was all coming from him.
You furrowed your eyebrows. “Anakin?”
When he turned, and his eyes met yours, you held back a gasp.
His force mark... it was different. You were afraid to say it, but almost dark. “Are you okay?” your voice trembled slightly.
He nodded, his gaze somber. “Yeah, I'm fine. I have to go.”
He walked past you, not even looking back. You frowned, grabbing his arm. “Anakin. I want to talk to you.”
“I just told you I have to go.” His body tensed.
“It'll just be a few minutes. Please.” You stared into his eyes, looking for your best friend in that man full of anger and confusion. But before he could say anything, a soft voice calling your name distracted you.
“I was looking for you!” It was Sammi. You took a deep breath, this was the worst moment. When she saw your expressions, she took a step back. “Oh, forgive me, am I interrupting something?”
Anakin released his grip on you. “No. I was just leaving.”
You watched as he walked away without looking back, his robe fluttering until he disappeared into the temple elevator. You sighed, you had a very bad feeling.
Sammi rested a hand on your shoulder. “Are you okay?”
You turned, forcing a smile and nodding. “Yeah... don't worry, why were you looking for me?”
“Oh! I have a class with the younglings and I need your help...” She kept talking, but you couldn't concentrate. You felt a huge weight on your chest, not letting you breathe properly. Something was very wrong.
“How do you possibly have time to watch this?” you giggled. After helping Sammi with her class, they went to your quarters, and she showed you the latest holodrama she was watching.
“Well, General Jedi, may I remind you that I don't go out on the battlefield.”
“Just the same, you must be too busy in the infirmary!” you both laughed. The drama was a very theatrical recreation of Jedi life, and the main characters had a secret relationship.
“This is very unrealistic, anyway.” Sammi mentioned. “Secret relationships between the Jedi? Pff, of course not.”
“Yeah... obviously. That doesn't happen in real life.” You chuckled, trying to hide the fact that you had turned red.
Sunset was already coming, staining your room a nice orange. The younglings had helped distract you from the pain in your chest that plagued you. And Sammi's company was comforting, you could look for Anakin tomorrow.
Then your friend said something, but you didn't hear her, as a shiver ran down your spine.
You looked down at the ground, trying to analyze what was happening. Something had changed. In the air, in the Force.
You noticed that Sammi had gone quiet, so you turned your gaze to her. Her eyes were wide, her breathing accelerated.
“You feel it too.” You whispered, it wasn't a question.
Everything felt dense, as if time was suddenly slowing down. The pain in your chest had returned, but this time it was worse.
“What's going on?”
You rose gently from your bed, as shouting began to be heard in the hallway. You gasped, moving closer to the door and sticking your ear against it.
You closed your eyes, trying to connect with the Force, but-
You clutched your head, an excruciating pain was covering it.
You heard blasters.
Lightsabers.
And finally- nothing. Total silence.
Above it all, an emptiness of total suffering and pain. It was the dark side.
Sammi whispered your name, desperate. “Tell me what's going on.”
You winced, trying to find your words. “The clones.” Your voice came out choked. “They're here. They're attacking us.”

Wish You The Best
A/N: Forgive me, I started another series...oops
Summary: You meet an alpha from your past, and he introduces you to what will become your future.
It's as if you've been transported to another world. Between the stone arches that act as supports for the glass ceiling to the natural wildflowers that decorate the tables, you feel transported. There's nothing more perfect for Ava MacTavish’s wedding to her fiancé, a day with delicate sunlight and the end of summer warmth.
You find it nice that the ceremony and reception will be in the same old building, speaking volumes to Ava’s connection to Scotland. The place she was born and raised had as much meaning for her as it had for you, albeit for entirely different reasons.
This was her home, the place where you had met and had run wild across the grassy knolls behind her house. The two of you were best friends, classmates that had become like sisters with an unbreakable bond. As you grew older you had become entangled in a childlike crush on her older brother, Johnny MacTavish, who was only 3 years older than yourself.
The alpha that had stolen your attention had reciprocated feelings beyond friendship when you had turned 18, and he was well on his way toward the SAS. It was the epitome of wrong timing but the right person, and as time tore you apart your thoughts shifted from him. You had doubled down on your schoolwork, on getting your bachelor’s degree in education and then landing a job.
Now at 24 you were a primary school teacher in a cozy school in smalltown England, a job you had always wanted. Being an omega who taught young kids had always seemed like a good fit for you, given that Johnny had once claimed you were the personification of the sun. A bright personality, bubbly and always trying to see the best in people, believing that everyone had some inherited good within them.
Now you were back in Scotland for Ava’s wedding and undoubtedly you would cross paths with Johnny. The alpha you’d had a crush on all those years ago was supposed to be here, as Ava had promised, and it was only a matter of time before you ran into him. You knew that if Ava and her fiancé had wanted a wedding party, Johnny would’ve likely been the best man. However, to spare drama and money, both Ava and her fiancé wanted just themselves to stand and have everyone else be guests.
The moment you had set foot on the property you headed toward the seating chart for the wedding to find your name written amongst small cardstocks. You set a hand down upon the table and leaned in, eyes narrowed ever so slightly as you scoured the charts, and upon finding your name a smile had graced your face. There written in black ink was your name next to Johnny’s, and on the other side was someone you hadn’t met yet but had heard about.
“Steaming bloody Jesus, you’re still alive.” A voice so recognizable stirs your attention and you turn your head, looking over your shoulder. Sparkling blue eyes meet yours with that consistent mischievousness reflected in those blues. Your smile only grows, and your heart nearly leaps out of your chest when you feel those familiar butterflies afflicting you.
No matter how much time had passed, seeing Johnny had affected you greatly.
“Hey Johnny,” you greeted him warmly, your smile bright and that bubbliness not lacking for a moment, “what do you mean still alive?”
“I mean yer clumsy as hell, bonbon.” He grins cheekily and doesn’t hesitate to pull you into a deep hug, lifting you clear off your feet. Your laugh is infectious, and you can’t help but hold onto him as if he’s your lifeline, until you're standing again. “And you’re too trusting, especially with animals.”
“I like animals.” You fix your dress once you’re on your own two feet, and briefly your attention is drawn from Johnny to the hulking alpha standing next to him.
“Hi,” you greet the intense looking alpha with a cheerful chirp and extend your hand, that familiar smile still on your face, “I’m Y/N. I'm Ava’s best friend and-”
“-the clumsiest little omega this side of the world.” Johnny grins and throws an arm around your shoulders, tugging you straight into his side, while your hand is still extended. “This is Simon.”
He stares at you, this other alpha, with brown eyes that could appear dark and cold. His dirty blonde hair is slightly ruffled and messy, and there’s a distinct set of bruises on his neck that make you pause. You don’t know how you hadn’t put the pieces together but now it’s so obviously clear. The way Johnny’s scent mixes with this brooding alpha’s, you know they are mates. And they very recently had sex.
Your wide eyes bounce between Simon and Johnny, lips parted slightly in surprise as you look your old crush over. He, like Simon, has bruises on his neck and their scents are very well intertwined. There's a smirk that’s playing on Johnny’s lips, and he’s unashamed by the indication of their sex life, something you had just stumbled upon.
“Now what’s that look for sunshine?” Johnny teases you, his nostrils flaring as he inhales, filling his lungs with your perfume and scent. “Are you getting shy, little bonbon?”
“I am not!” You squeak and dart under his arm, pulling away from him to create a little distance and when you look at Simon, you can see the shift in his eyes. The amusement that seems to briefly flicker in his brown eyes, though he’s stoic and silent. “I have to take my seat-”
“Aye, yer between Simon and myself. Lucky omega.” Johnny reaches past you toward the seating chart and plucks the three cards with your names on them off the board, handing one to you. You notice on the bottom of the cardstock is a table number that matches the seat number, and you are wholly aware that Johnny is right. For the ceremony and the rest of the night, you’ll be placed between the two alpha’s.
“That’s fine, it’ll be fine.” You don’t allow any nervousness to shine through, because this is Johnny, and you knew him. You harboured a huge crush on him when you were younger, even if there were years and distance between you that didn’t make a difference. You were comfortable around him, and this would be a chance for you to catch up.
“This way, sunshine.” Johnny’s arm returns to being wrapped around your shoulders and he steers you away from the entrance of the venue to the seats. He escorts you while Simon follows, still silent yet obtusely observant of the whole interaction. His eyes were burning into your back as you walked with Johnny, deep and intense stares making your heart skip a beat—just as it had with Johnny.
“So, bonbon...” Johnny struck conversation when you were seated between two hulking alpha’s, his hand resting on your knee, his blue eyes searching your face, “what does little miss sunshine do for work?”
You feel heat beneath your skin, warmth that spreads when you feel the two of them staring at you. And although Simon has been silent, that only seems to spur you to get him to talk. You had looked at him from the corner of your eyes, his arm draped across the back of your seat, his fingers lightly brushing over Johnny’s shoulder. It was a subtle yet intimate act, one that had only furthered the heat bubbling beneath your flesh.
“I teach in a primary school.” You don’t know why you feel so bashful when you say it, your voice is so low and quiet.

“Ava said you’re a soldier.” You make the statement, only intending to push the attention and conversation onto someone else, yet you don’t expect it to the catalyst that finally makes silent Simon speak.
“We both are.” His voice catches you off guard, the rich and deep baritone sends a shiver through you and your attention quickly falls to him. He leans in slightly, the brush of his chest against your shoulder catches you off guard and your drop your gaze to avoid his intense stare. There's something that you almost miss, an almost incoherent sound of an alpha that relates to them being pleased. You don’t know if it’s from Johnny or Simon, but it doesn’t really matter either way because it still makes you feel weak.
“SAS, bonbon.” Johnny grins and reaches for you, subtly cupping your chin to draw your attention back toward him as he takes the last few minutes before the ceremony starts to hold your gaze again. “Yer such a sweet omega, ya know? You always were special, cute little sunshine.”
That hold breaks when the music for the wedding stops, and the guests start to stand. You wait for a single moment, in order to catch your breath before you stand on shaky legs—making the astute observation that between Johnny and Simon, you feel tiny.

Wade would never admit it out loud, not genuinely, but he liked the way (Y/n) worried over him. Having healing and regenerative abilities, no one truly worried about his injuries, at least not in the sense of his well-being, more so in the realm of whether he can still function, whether he can still be of service, and how inconvenient it is. It was mean, but he liked the way she gasped, the way she jumped to treat each of his wounds, the way she sometimes wept when she cleaned his blood-stained clothes. It was mean, but he liked the idea that someone cared about his pain.
Of course, Peter cared about his injuries, too, but he didn't cry over them. He didn't treat his injuries with a watery smile of pain and adoration but a scowl of annoyance and affection. He was aware of Wade's limits and did all he could to ensure that he stayed within them and held him when the pain got too much. But sometimes, he wanted someone to cry over him.
Like right now.
Deadpool had a job that took him all the way to Korea, where he decided to imitate swish cheese and lose a fucking arm. His arm had long since grown back, but he was still looking like swish cheese on account of his being unable to remove the bullets. Actually, his skin healed around some of the bullets, so she was also having to cut some of them out of them.
He watched as she did so. Taking a scalpel to his torso, gently cutting, then picking up tweezers and pulling out a bullet. Placing it in a small bowl, he held with others. She presses on the cut until it heals itself and moves on to the next, all while tears gently flow down her cheeks.
(Y/n) didn't move or stop as she heard the front door open.
"Hey, baby Boy, welcome home," Wade called out as he watched Peter come in, slinging his bag onto the couch. He comes over to them and kisses Wade's forehead.
"Welcome back," he says as he takes the bowl from him and sits on the floor next to (Y/n). He kisses her shoulder but ultimately leaves her alone to work, playing assistant as he holds her bowl and hands her her tools.
While he liked (Y/n) tears, he also liked Peter's like thereof. (Y/n) was gentle, with a soft voice, steady hands, and open emotions. Wade needed to be cared for in her eyes. Peter didn't weep. He was gentle, but he was also stern, with steady hands and controlled emotions. Wade needed to be held responsible in his eyes.
Wade Wilson was a trained mercenary with many skills and knowledge. He was able to perform as a mercenary and remain alive with less frequent injuries before gaining his regenerative abilities for several years. Plus, some of the injuries he got were honestly ridiculous and could have been avoided with just a bit of self-preservation. (Sometime Peter thinks he exchange for his abilities.)
He did his best to remind Wade he didn't need to hurt himself to be worthy. They liked him more without the extra holes and missing limbs.
Removing that last bullet, (Y/n) finally wipes her tears, not caring for the blood on her hands. " I can call your suit guy tomorrow," she said as she picked up her supplies.
" Don't worry about that. I made so much dough at the last job. I'm going to be lazy for a little while."
"No, you're not." Peter quickly said, " I'm not going to let you sit around and turn this house into a pigsty."
"What?!" Wade placed a hand on his chest mockingly. "I would never."
(Y/n) and Peter just rolled their eyes. " How about you two go take a shower and I'll start on dinner."
"Wonderful idea, darling. I need to wash off all this blood. Who knows where it's been." Wade says as he skips to the bathroom.
"We love that man," Peter said with an exhausted smile.
"Yes, yes, we do." (Y/n) said, " I'm going to make him chimichangas."
"Are you sure? You just got off an 18 hour shift." (Y/n) was currenting doing her medical residency often pulling 24 to 16 hour days.
"And you just got off an early morning patrol and 6 hour shift with a shitty boss. Speaking of, do you have any injuries for me." She steps forward wrapping her arms around his neck.
"I scared an old lady so she hit me with her purse, gave me a bruise. Although she got me yogurt to say sorry. My day was uneventful, I can make dinner."
"Lies, I saw that building fire. You saved those people. I'll be fine. Tell you what, I'll make your favorite tomorrow, Homemade Pizza. How does that sound?"
"I don't know how I got you, What I did to deserve you" She giggled and gave him a kiss.
"Go join Wade in the shower. Make sure I didn't miss anything please." She waved him off and moved to started dinner.
"Yes, ma'am" he salutes her as he made his way to their shower.
"NO SEX."
Peter laughed as he heard Wade's cry of despair.

Content Warnings: Swearing & Cussing, arguments, angst, female reader hits on someone they all hate, smut implication, abrupt ending. Nikolai included.
Summary: They don’t know what to do with someone like you. A fighter pilot with nothing to lose and nothing to fear.
“Where were you the past 24 hours?” Simon asked you with a low growl.
“I was on a mission. You know, the kind you don’t air out like it’s your dirty laundry,” you answered. You didn’t know what he was angry about. Whatever it was, it had him breathing down your neck like you murdered someone.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were heading out? Why didn’t you tell us you were leaving?” Simon pressed.
“The mission came first, it’s just that simple, and I left a note.” You argued that you were annoyed, still having to explain your whereabouts to him, as if he had some say over where you should or shouldn’t be.
“I didn’t ask whether you were ok with it or not because it’s not your business to know.” You told Simon, frowning. “You can’t demand information like that. It’s not up to me to tell you those things.”
You were right. Information like that wasn’t up to you to give to someone who wasn’t part of your unit. They wouldn’t allow that.
“I thought you lot didn’t like me. What’s your problem?” you ask him. “Hmm? Has Soap finally told you to grow the fuck-up?”
Simon growled in your ear, “Don’t push your luck.” A snarl ripped through from the back of his throat.
“How about you don’t push yours? Don’t fucking push me around like you know me, like you know anything about me. If you want to bark up a tree, bark up Price’s you two-faced moronic man child. Grow the fuck-up, Simon. Everyone else around you already has. Maybe if you weren’t so keen in fucking your subordinates like your fucking captain, I might like you more.”
“And don’t go, ‘But we were both lonely.’ I was alone in my personal life for over a fucking decade. Get a grip, you absolute bitch.” You snapped before he got a word in edgeways. “Get lost and stay gone.”
You were always considered an odd child; your mother would use any excuse to leave you with your father, and she still saw her ex-husband even after she divorced him. She might have been with your father. But it didn’t stop her from cheating on him with her ex-husband.
Your father and your mother had a fifteen-year age gap. They met when he was 19. They started dating when he was 21. He was 22 when you were in the picture. He tried his best, but for one reason or another, it wasn’t enough for your mother.
You still remember coming home from school to hear him crying because he found out about the affair. She blamed him for it. Of course, she did. Said he wasn’t ‘doing enough’ to provide, or something. You just thought the woman loved tearing him to pieces.
You wouldn’t hear from her again after her yelling and screaming in his face. Things would settle back into a calm silence. It wouldn’t last long enough to soothe your nerves, but it was long enough to ease some pressure.
Your father was still working in construction during your early years, often leaving you in the care of your grandparents, a babysitter, or daycare if there was no other choice. He didn’t enjoy leaving you alone. But sometimes he needed to.
Your father gave up his job in construction to become a stay-at-home dad once he turned 26. You didn’t understand what made him choose that. He never made it a point to explain himself, either.
Your mother complained about it. “You wanted to pursue your career, remember?” he reminded her. He wasn’t going to tell her to stop. He was going to provide care to you instead of letting a stranger do it. He also didn’t want his parents burdened with his issues.
The subject was never dropped after that. She made it her mission to complain about how he either 'pitied' her or wanted to 'use' her. She didn't love him as much as she loved ruining his mental health.
"I thought you were happy with this arrangement, or did you prefer me to call your ex for help? Leave Cathy. Leave me alone." he stated, thinking you were asleep.
You peaked around the corner, and you saw them argue. It was either about how he was either doing 'too much' or that he wasn't 'man' enough, or how he was 'draining' her finances by becoming a stay-at-home dad. It was always something wrong in her eyes. Always.
There wasn't anything he could have done.
There wasn't anything he could have changed without her hounding his every footstep like a two-faced bloodhound with a feverous anger only ever aimed at him.
You weren't sure if that woman loved anyone other than herself. You never wanted to know, either way.
After the argument between Simon and you. Things were back to a tense quiet. You were certain they were talking behind your back like a bunch of high school teen who forget high-school ended years ago.
You thought if you ignored them things would be back to how they were before. With just you and your own thoughts.
You didn't know, did you?
You didn't know just how wrong you could possibly be.
A form hand gripped your face, warm breath pressed against your cheek, "D'ya forget who you belonged to?" Price hissed into your ear causing you to squirm away from him.
A large calloused warm hand gripped your inner thigh.
"I think we ought to....give you a little punishment, da?" Nikolai stated.
