Jane.

She kept glancing at her phone in her hands, hoping for a message, a phone call or anything at all even though she knew it was all wishful thinking. She had made sure that no one would be able to contact her when she ran away from her family.

She couldn't help the sad smile that etched itself on her lips. Not only that, but she still couldn't believe what she had done. She had not just abandoned her parents and friends, she had also left behind her husband and her children.

'Quite selfish of you, don't you think?' A small voice at the back of her mind said to her, causing her smile to drop a little. 'Abandoning your entire family and ruining the lives of the people you love, all for a selfish dream. That isn't right of a good Christian woman.'

"Shut up." She muttered under her breath as her smile fell completely. She knew what she was doing, and it wasn't a stupid dream.

'Do you really think that you could make it in Hollywood and become a celebrity?'

"Shut up." She rebutted, her fists clenched tightly by her side, tears threatening to spill from her big baby blue eyes, "Please...", she pleaded silently.

'Jane Jane Jane...' It mocked.

"Shut Up!" She shouted loudly, causing many of the passengers on the train to stare at her.

'Jane Jane Jane... Stupid Stupid Jane...' It taunted.

Soul Mates

Soul mates, are those who are like a puzzle pieces. They will fit you completely, but like a piece of puzzle there will always be several soul mates that is the perfect fit for you. A few days ago, I thought to myself. "What is a soul mate?" And when I googled it, Wikipedia told me that a soul mate is someone who you naturally have deep feelings for no matter if it is love, friendship or intimacy. Before I started writing this post, I told myself I wasn't going to think about my soul mate. But I am to think about the future soul mates that I will meet. There's one thing that Disney animations taught me. Which is either "run from your past, or learn from your past." Yes, I am kind of - semi quoting "The Lion King. I am going to learn from my past. As it is semi-pointless to look back. I always tell myself "never look back." The meaning behind it will be explained further the next time I write. Referring back to the post I wrote yesterday about love. Although one of my soul mate doesn't love me anymore it doesn't mean that I don't have to not love him. I understand that my "right" soul mate will appear one day and for now I will wait. Patiently.

Education is the key

Education is the key

  From a young age I have been told, “education is important,” by my parents, by my teachers and by my peers. It had seemed like the social norm is to enroll into university after graduating high school/college. Is education really just about getting a degree or really about learning? I have been told, “Education is the key.”

  Is this really the “key?” I understand that a lot of successful people such as Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerburg these people sure have not graduated from a higher education. However they are seen to be successful because of their brilliant ideas. So is education really about learning or having a clever idea and the luck to get noticed by someone? I searched and searched on google and found that a lot of people have said, “It broadens your horizons.” To be honest the process of learning broadens your horizons and not the results that matter. All the results of your exams indicate the intelligence of you being able to regurgitate facts, either if it is from a textbook, teacher or talking. Textbooks allow you to learn about the facts and statistics, teachers teach you those facts and statistics verbally and talking allows you to be able to learn from your peers. Ultimately the results are the same. The final exam is still the indicator of your “intelligence.” Or so it seems, intelligence. That is something that is very ambiguous, is intelligence the measurement of your IQ? Or is it really as so it seems your test scores?

  Today I was at a university talk for one of the universities I would like to consider for my higher education in the future. This is what I have been told, “the IB scores is an accurate indicator of how successful our students are.” I immediately thought to myself – oh shit. I am never going to get into that faculty with my scores. It also seems like that I am apparently also not going to be very successful at the moment because of my IB scores. So this is when I thought, “education is the key.” Education is what will lead me to a less stress life and most likely get me a job. Although I do disagree with what education and school’s ideas about competing for the best grades, as it seems I have no choice. If finally I do not end up in a university and fit into the social norm, I will probably disappoint my parents and be a disgrace to my family as they put it. But is school really about regurgitating facts?

I feel that way sometimes too… Maybe it’s because I spend so much time with my family. I love them to pieces, but I guess spending time apart from them will help me appreciate them more.
