I really love slow burn ships because all my fave ones are slow burns

its probably bc im a sentimental fool who prefers the method of building up to the relationship rather than dating --> finding (or not finding) a friendship along the way

because as a writer,,, its just more beefy with potential? like okay I'll give you my three slow burn ships-- and how different they are bc the three shows the main types of slow burn (talking about the MCD characterizations lmao-- if youre confused, this post isnt for you):

travlyn: you have the optimist with the realist; the one who rushes in and the one who takes her time; the outcast and the solider-- it goes on. travis and katelyn are, more or less, each other's opposites-- but underneath, they're more similar than either of them would expect. the conflict of the ship is mainly from a) possibility the feelings aren't mutual since Katelyn is slow to be affectionate and her change would be slow yet deliberate while Travis masks everything behind a "I'm a playboy" as insecurity is just under the surface-- so both completely miss the obvious signs until either confessed; b) situational because Katelyn will prioritize work or duty in front of what she really wants and Travis will let her-- it takes event to make either realize that they really shouldn't waste their lives by sacrificing their happiness like this; c) i touched this already but insecurity is a big roadblock-- because both share admiration for each other and sometimes that admiration turns into a "Well I'm lucky to have somebody like you in my life", not pushing past boundaries, sometimes that inaction will cause conflict that result with the two parting ways that only leaves both heart broken. They don't change for the other, they change because of the other. That's their love-- a changing one, for the best version themselves and a version where they look at the unsavory bits of who they are, taking comfort in the thought they're loved for everything-- broken bits and all.

vylance: vylad and laurance are suppose to be a more mature version-- because normally their feelings are always returned from out the gate with a different kind of nuance than travlyn would have, but still built over a friendship from the ground up (a difference: usually while one or both are at rock bottom and the slow burns happens after recovery starts). It's actually the quickest of the slow burns and most of what laurance & vylad face as obstacles are external. The two read each other the best, their moods and mannerisms are essentially memorized, but it doesn't mean neither could pull a surprise on the other and take them off path. Because they're imperfect and their storylines always reflect this-- but a thing to remember, within their storylines, they are the good, a light, the positivity and what keeps hope. They're faithful-- in every sense of the word. There's a trust the other knows what they're doing-- and that they'll be there when they don't. They're love is suppose to be healing one, restoring a sense or emotion they always craved for but assumed as a pipe dream. The added bonus of laurance having his feelings on the sleeves while vylad use to not have a problem with suppression of what he feels-- the two brings out laurance's calm and vylad's reawakening with their emotions. They aren't each other "halves", rather, they give the other parts of themselves-- they always carry a little bit of the other within their hearts.

lucidenza: You might be asking me-- how is this ship a slowburn and this is partly my fault because I haven't written that portion of their ship? Unlike the other two, they're closer mirrors to each other, lucinda and cadenza. But that's on the surface and situational, while as the deeper you dig, the further the differences-- like lucinda's softness covered by barbed edges versus cadenza's optimism and upbeatness covers caving pressures and loneliness she deals with. Actually, at both their cores, they both fear loneliness-- while luci embraces her fear by regular isolation, cadenza needs to fill the void. Both are intelligent, while luci leans towards methodical while cadenza's shines emotionally-- and this is where the bond starts. All slow burns are a give and take, with luci and cadenza their give and take is finding a balance in their personal happiness by learning from the others way of working world. While katelyn would reject or avoid travis's pov before coming around and vylad would take convincing while laurance doesn't adjust well to vylad leading them to compromise as they go, luci and cadenza mesh well with each other. Luci's cynicism softens while cadenza learns to be more critical because remember: both are in a position of power, being lords who inherited their positions. They make it clear early on that the spark is there, the interest is there but they take their time, the easing sort of love who know their attention or heart cannot be totally on this path. So when they get there, their loose ends are tied and they only sought a peace the only the other could provide. Quiet admiration, this love's problems are also external but understandable and doesn't rock what they have; a returning sort of love, slowly but surely on its path back home: each other's heart.

Yknow all three have the same basis of their loves are stubborn lmao. Like they might part and disappear but the moment they reunite
