Greetings and salutations good pagan peoples of Tumblr!
My name is Sigrid (thet/them). I am a long-time occultist, witch, artist, polytheist, nature-lover, Hekate devotee, anthropology student, etc. The list goes on.
I have come back to Tumblr after over a decade of being away (my old blog got nuked back in 2013). It is good to be back, I've only had this new account for a few hours, and already I am feeling right at home.
During my time away, I have tried and failed to have a blog where I could share my thoughts, experiences, art , and more. Unfortunately, it is hard to find a good community of witchy folks online (or even just people interested in reading a blog in general).
I am hopeful I will find community here and be able to share my thoughts without fear of judgment or the disappointment of being ignored.
A little more about me, I am currently an undergrad studying both anthropology and art with a focus on metal art, jewelry making, and ancient metalworking. I'm quite possibly in my 4th (?) year of study, but due to a three year gap in my studies due to cancer treatment, it's anyone's guess what year I'm in. I am about halfway to a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree and approximately one-fourth of the way to my Bachelor's of Anthropology (I claimed my double major after my first year and a half of studies).
I am a metal artist and painter. My first love is watercolor, but I also paint with gouache and occasionally oil. With metalworking, I primarily work in copper and brass, but I dream of having the opportunity to work in gold. Alas, I am poor, cannot afford :(
As stated previously, I am a stage IV cancer survivor. It's been three years, and no reoccurrence! It was through my cancer experience that I deepened my relationship to cthonic dirtiest, namely Hekate.
I'm an eclectic pagan with a Hellenistic slant- mainly choosing to work with Greek and Egyptian gods. Though I do also have connections to Celtic/Scandinavian traditions and dieties as my ancestry includes Scottish and Swedish influences.
I began my practice as a young teen and went through a formal year and a day training (as is "traditional" according to the woman who tutored me) and was initiated into Khemetic-flavored Wicca on October 31st, 2010.
I've since grown out of Wicca as my horizons expanded over the years, though I've kept some of the useful bit I learned from my old tutor. These days, I do my own thing whilst taking a few pages out of Jason Miller and Josephine McCarthy's books (I find Quareia quite spectacular, personally).
The gods I work with the most are Hekate, Thoth/Hermes, Bastet and Sekmet. I used to work very closely with Loki and his children, as well as Sigyn, Freya, Freyjr, and Thor. I've moved away from direct work with the Nordic gods, but I still hold much love and reverence for them.
I plan to repost my old blog entries as well as new ones on a semi-regular basis! I hope some of you will stick around.
See you in the next one,
Sigrid
