IZBERBASH, Russia -- A young girl from Russia's North Caucasus region of Daghestan has chosen her high-school graduation ceremony to express her opposition to Moscow's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

A video of the girl, which went viral on social media on May 22, purportedly shows her shouting: "No to war! Liberty to Ukraine! [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is the devil!"

The video shows that the girl's action was apparently applauded by members of the audience, comprising students, parents, and teachers.

Pro-government Daghestani Telegram channels say the footage was taken from a graduation ceremony at school No. 11 in the city of Izberbash, adding that the girl was charged with an administrative offense, namely taking public actions to discredit the Russian Federation's armed forces.

According to the Telegram channels, the girl’s mother was charged with "failing to properly bring up a minor." The identity of the girl was not officially disclosed, but various media outlets said her name is Zukhra Albekova. She and her mother may face fines.

The Daghestani Interior Ministry refused to comment on the incident.

A source in the Education Ministry of Daghestan told RFE/RL that "the girl did it after she made a bet with her classmates."

Later in the day, several online social groups in Daghestan showed the girl and her mother apologizing for the "incident."

The girl said she regretted her action, which was prompted by her desire "to attract classmates' attention to her."

Her mother said she fully supports Putin and his policies, including what Russian officials call the "special military operation in Ukraine."

A source in the Daghestani government told RFE/RL that the girl and her mother were forced to make online statements after the regional head Sergei Melikov personally called Izberbash's mayor ordering him "to clear up the situation."

Izberbash authorities refused to provide any comments to RFE/RL.

July 10 marked one year since the death of the Hero of Russia, police Lieutenant, 31-year-old Magomed Nurbagandov, who said these simple words, which have now become the motto of many people. And this story began quite simply: on July 9, 2016, a large group of relatives arranged a picnic in the forest, not far from the usual Dagestani village of Sergokala. No one thought of anything tragic or heroic, and no one could imagine that two people would never return home. By evening, most of the campers had gone home. In the forest remained cousins Mahomed and Abdurashid and still (according to various sources) two or three underage boys. By the morning of July 10, they were attacked by bandits, carriers of the extremist ideology of the "Islamic state" (is, ISIL, a structure banned in the Russian Federation). From the point of view of these militants, people resting peacefully in the forest are by definition "kafirs" ("infidels"). Then it turned out that at least one of these terrorists tried to escape to Syria earlier, but was stopped. I decided to continue my criminal activities on the territory of Russia. After the uninvited guests began to beat one of the boys, Abdurashid stood up for him. He was the first to die. "The most Greyhound was", - so the attackers commented on his behavior. According to ISIS traditions, they filmed everything that happened on video. After laying the hostages face down, the militants began searching their victims ' car. And found the certificate of the employee of non-departmental security, which belonged to Magomed. This determined his tragic fate. Mahomed, along with one of his brothers, was tied up and shoved into the trunk of the car that was being searched. They took us some distance from the camp. The massacre took place there. Subsequently, the terrorists cut the video of their atrocity. They posted a video of the murder, provided it with ISIS symbols and threats that this would happen to everyone, but tried to hide the fact that the man they shot had a choice: bow his head or die. That is, he died not as a victim, but as a hero. The terrorists demanded that Nurbagandov call on his colleagues to stop working in law enforcement agencies on camera. In response to this, the opposite call was made: the very words " Work, brothers." There are different kinds of courage. And not everyone, even those who do not bow to bullets on the battlefield, is able to maintain courage in those conditions when left alone with death. If in battle a bullet can touch, and can not touch – then you can expect mercy from the scum only at the price of bowed head and complete submission. In addition, it is not known how the bandits will behave – they will shoot immediately or decide to turn the last minutes of life into hell… And not always a heroic act is performed "beautifully", "on the world", where, as they say, "and death is red". It happens that people may not even hear about such feats. Even in this case, no one could have found out about the great courage of a simple police Lieutenant who came from a small Dagestani village. But by pure chance, the country saw that there, in the forest, a young police officer fell not just as a victim of gang violence, but as a man who remained faithful to his duty to the end. So the killers didn't include the words "Work, brothers"in their violent video. But two months later, in September 2016, during a special operation in the city of Izberbash, the gang was defeated. The terrorists were found to have the same phone on which they filmed their barbaric villainy. And there, on the recording, the words "Work, brothers"were heard. Words that were heard by the whole country. On September 21, 2016, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree awarding Magomed Nurbagandov the Hero's star. Meeting with his parents, the head of state said: "He is a hero, because not every person under the threat of death or execution remains true to his oath and duty, remains true to his people." Abdurashid, who died the same morning, was awarded the Order of Courage posthumously. Magomed's younger brother miraculously managed to survive, and together with him he was caught in the hands of bandits. The militants released him with the words: "Let's keep you alive so that you can encourage everyone to leave the police force, otherwise it will be the same for everyone." However, the villagers were not afraid. Moreover, when it became known under what circumstances Magomed died, they went out on the street and called on the authorities to perpetuate the Hero's name in the names of the street and school. Past year. In the small homeland of Magomed Nurbagandov, in Sergokal, commemorative events were held in his honor. Poems and songs are composed in honor of the courageous police officer.
