I re-watched Children Of The Corn 3: Urban Harvest (1995)

For my 12th birthday, my friend got me this movie on VHS. At the time, it was the only Children of the Corn movie I'd ever seen. So, rather than watch the original again, I chose to watch this sequel for this year's Halloween list, and see what I could remember.

Two brothers move to Chicago with their adopted parents. Soon the younger brother starts using his evil powers to get his way.

Crapfests are always part of a good Halloween list. Sometimes horror movies aren't so great, and sometimes the worse they are, the better they are. Bad movies are necessary to the fabric of a genre, especially the horror genre, which has always felt a bit like an underdog. It's the one genre where the fans openly embrace the idea of "so bad it's good".

Children of the Corn 3 is such a bad movie that I really relished watching it. The acting is mostly terrible, the dialogue is ridiculous and, at times, downright hilarious. The music can be goofy, the plot is nonsense....it's all so inept. When the adoptive father pulls corn out of one of his adopted son's suitcases and says the line, "That's good looking corn." I had no idea it would lead to a plot about evil corn exports.

Director James D.R. Hickox, who I know nothing about, had me wondering if his intention was to make an actually scary horror film, or if he was in on the joke of making something so perfectly terrible. There are lines in this, off the cuff moments that seem expertly tailored to make us giggle. But, the sincerity of it all, the terrible angles, the trash script, the awkward "urban" moments.....it's all real.

Some of the gore and gross out moments aren't exactly scary, but they definitely add to the fun in this bag of ridiculousness. And I'll give Hickox this, the movie never stops. It's all funny and ridiculous moments, top to bottom.

Please enjoy how absolutely funny this movie is and Invite friends over and watch this with them. It's such a good pick for a bad movie night.

(Also, you can spot a young Charlize Theron among the teens in this movie, so that's a bonus, I guess.)

 Una monster movie de serie B con el televisivo Josh Holloway por medio haciendo lo que mejor sabe hacer, el chuloputas. Muertes ridículas intercaladas por diálogos aburridísimos se dan cita en un compendio de topicazos del género mal llevados y con unos efectos digitales terribles - los "animatronics" tienen más perdón -. Imprescindible para una buena siesta.
