hi love, the struggle with motivation and wanting more interaction is so real.
im def always posting with the hope that i can build a little community of ppl who enjoy my writing and maybe want to chat with me about it (and anything under the sun rlly) but personally, it’s so crucial for my motivation that im prioritizing my enjoyment over what i think ppl will like. like in general, less ppl are gonna read lilyxreader than jamesxreader, but i love lily so im gonna keep writing for her! it’s a hard mindset to get into though. especially bc notes give me so much serotonin
another thing i find motivating is that each time i post, it seems like my blog grows a little more, so hopefully by just posting we get to connect with more ppl who will want to talk to us lol
but i think it’s most important to do whatever is best for you! breaks can be good when u need them, i mean ive taken years off multiple times🫣 or if you need to bounce ideas off of someone i’m here (and i’ve been thinking of dad!james all night) anyway sorry for rambling so much i may have gotten carried away haha
babe! when this came in i was literally thinking of your james fics! im so desperate for that man.
i feel that too, everytime i post a fic i hope that my blog grows a little bit more and so does the people i interact with. i love the idea of someone sending me a message to talk about my works or literally just to chat. that motivates me quite a bit honestly.
i used to write for OBX and then i took quite a while off and obviously now im here, so i think i’ll always come back to writing. but i for sure need someone to bounce ideas off of, so expect me in your dms!
thank you for sending this 🤍 it helps a lot :)

HI BB!!
Apologies for being so late on this reply (same goes for the rest of my inbox), but that means a lot to me. I am so excited for the remake and I bet you are too!
I'm most likely going to be making some more James Sunderland (maybe some Maria/Mary too if people request that👀). Other than that I'm glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate it♥️✨

it's sooo funny i actually cant read jamesxreader fic it gives me a huge major ick and i think its just bc like. honestly. i want to watch canon james be eviscerated for 1000 years straight. i like watching him suffer. too scared to have sex with him. he doesn't deserve it. etc. so it has to be a guy who is virtually identical to james but just has tthe normal kind of mental illness + repressed sexual urges, not the wife killing kind,

Wrong Idea — James Potter x reader
Tumblr media
***not my gif***
Summary: You have a big crush on James Potter but have to live with the ‘fact’ that James is smitten with your best friend, Lily. But is this really the case, or have you just got the wrong idea?
Word count: 2.9K
A/N: Hi! Second fic, whoooo! No one really requested this but it just came to me. Again, a bit too long for my liking, but it’s okay. Any feedback is very much appreciated. Requests are open, so feel free! Enjoy!!
_________________
“He is totally staring at you, Lily,” you whisper to your friend as you stand beside her, both pretending to be overly concentrated on finding just the finest box of Chocolate Frogs that Honeydukes has to offer.
“He is not,” Lily whispers back, acting as if this prospect sounds ridiculously unbelievable but you could see her small smile as she tried her best not to glance at his direction. She continued to act as though she was very carefully examining a box of Chocolate Frogs as you chuckled quietly, trying to ignore the faint pang in your chest.
James Potter. Star Quidditch player. Self-appointed ‘mom’ of the Marauders. Personification of the very cliche, but fitting phrase, “messy hair, don’t care”. And, of course, a very famous lady’s man.
And, lastly, your ‘former’ crush who was now seemingly smitten with your best friend, Lily.
You weren’t sure when it was exactly when you had realized that you were inordinately conscious of how you looked whenever he was around, how you stole quick glances at him throughout your shared Potions class, hoping he wouldn’t notice, or how much the thought of the raven-haired boy consumed your mind. Slowly, but surely, your crush on James had developed into something so strong and overwhelming, you couldn’t even think of confiding in anyone else. Not even your best friend, Lily Evans.
When you had heard about the rumours and gossip circulating around the school, about how James was supposedly head-over-heels for a certain red-head, you had tried your very hardest to force those feelings out of you. You couldn’t have a crush on James. He liked Lily. End of story.
You felt even worse when Lily would blush mildly, her cheeks turning as red as her hair, whenever James stopped you two to talk in the middle of the hallway. How Lily would talk your ears off about how much she hated James, and how annoying and arrogant she perceived him to be, but you knew better. You knew Lily liked James too, maybe not as outwardly as James liked her, but enough to make you feel like a terrible person for liking the same guy as your best friend of five years.
And now, you couldn’t help but notice the way James’ eyes seemed to follow you two, as he stood by a shelf at the entrance of the shop, watching you both weave around the shelves stocked with sweets and treats in Honeydukes, talking quietly amongst yourselves.
“Lily, you like him, he likes you,” you try to tell her once again, ignoring how it made your heart sting a little every time you thought of them together, “why, in Merlin’s name, are you acting so oblivious?”
“[Y/N],” she scoffed, feigning offense, “I’m not acting oblivious. And I don’t like him. I just don’t… mind him.”
“Mhm,” you hummed as you picked up a cauldron cake off the shelf, “I totally believe you, Lils.”
“Believe what you want, [Y/L/N],” she retorted with a clever smile but the smile started to falter as she started to look more nervous, looking steadily at something behind you.
You turned around to look at what it was exactly that had her looking so alarmed and were just as alarmed when you saw James approaching you two, after abandoning the display he was previously taking a close look at, with a confident smile set on his handsome face.
“[Y/L/N],” he greeted as he smiled at you for a millisecond too long, sending butterflies in your stomach into a frenzy, “Evans.”
“Potter,” Lily greeted him back curtly, her face set into a smile that conveyed politeness but not necessarily obvious interest.
Maybe it was your failure to repress your intense feelings for James, but you could’ve sworn that he was looking intently at you, perhaps in the hopes that you would also acknowledge him in some way. But, you didn’t trust yourself to be able to speak without melting into a stuttering mess so you stayed quiet, averting eye contact, and fidgeting with the packet of the cauldron cake in your hands.
“Did you need something, Potter?” Lily questioned, raising a single eyebrow. James’ gaze still hadn’t left you but he was forced to tear his eyes off of you to address Lily.
“Oh, no, I don’t need anything,” he remarked, regaining his confident (bordering on arrogant) composure as his eyes involuntarily shifted to you once again, “I just wanted to ask something.”
This captured your attention as your eyes jumped up from the cake in your hands to the sly smile that James was sending you and Lily. This is it, you thought, he’s going to ask her out and--
“Is there any chance, [Y/N],” James started out, sending you a sincere look, making your breath hitch in your throat, “that you could give up that Cauldron Cake?”
“Huh?” you say in surprise. Cauldron Cake?
“The one you have in your hand,” he smiled, “Uh, Padfoot, apparently, has been craving one for a few weeks and, unfortunately, that’s the last one they have. I looked all over.”
“Oh,” you said, a bit awkwardly, evidently struggling to find the right words for this unusual sort of situation, “yeah, I guess you can…”
“Y’know, I told him that’s not how cravings work,” he tried to crack a joke as you handed the cake to him, his hands slightly brushing against your own, making you weak in the knees, “but he claims I wouldn’t get it. It’s just a dog--, uh, a Sirius thing, I guess.”
He laughed an incredibly awkward laugh, while you and Lily stood there, clearly unsure of what to do. It would not be correct to say you didn’t laugh because  you thought what James had just said was unfunny… no, it was more about the fact that you hadn’t understood it at all. This wasn’t like James. Sure, James’ jokes weren’t hilarious but they certainly weren’t as… dry as the one he just told. If you could even call it a ‘joke’. It sounded an awful lot like he just winged it -- came up with a half-assed joke just for the sake of coming up with one. Not a typical James Potter move, that much you knew.
Lily was watching this exchange occur with weirdly curious interest. She wasn’t sure what was happening but she also couldn’t tear her eyes away from darting back between you and James. It didn’t take her too long to get a general gist of what was going on… she was the brightest witch in her year, after all.
“Right,” you say, attempting to swiftly leave this incredibly strange conversation, “I’m afraid Lils and I should get going now. Enjoy the… cake.”
“Oh,” James looked down at the cake, as if he had entirely forgotten he had it in his hands and then back up at you, “yes. Thank you, by the way, for the cake. I’ll see you back at the common room, [Y/N]. Evans.” He nodded in Lily’s direction, while he mentally cursed himself for acting so awkward.
Before anyone could say anything else, you took a hold of Lily’s gloved hand and started to lead her towards the exit of the shop, ignoring whatever it was she was saying to you. You shook your head a little as ridiculous thoughts started flooding your brain. Why did he use my first name and not Lily’s? Am I reading into this too much? Am I going crazy?
You had decided that the latter two were more likely to be the case when the corner of your eye caught an entire shelf in front of the entrance of the shop, stocked with Cauldron Cakes. And the display wasn’t too far away from where James originally stood. In fact, that’s the very display he was checking out when you had noticed him staring.
________________
You groaned as Marlene and Lily dragged you out of the dorm room, against your will, mind you, insisting that it was absolutely crucial that you abandon your History of Magic of homework and follow them.
“We have a test coming up!” you tried to reason with them, “Lily, Mar, come on, we should be studying!”
“Studying can wait, [Y/N],” Marlene said to you, matter-of-factly, “Quidditch cannot.”
They dragged you by the arm, through the Gryffindor common room, to the Quidditch game, which was just about to start. Today was a big day; the first Quidditch game of the season, Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff.
You, of course, knew what this meant.
James Potter. Flying around on his broom. Being a brilliant chaser.
You had never been a particular fan of the game, but when you had started liking James, you found yourself going to the Quidditch pitch quite often. That is, until you deemed your feelings for James to be forbidden. Now, Quidditch games were just about the same as rubbing salt to your, very deep, wounds.
The way he would look over at Lily, who stood right beside you, and wink at her made you angry. And not angry at Lily or James, but angry at yourself. All the glances he would send her way only made you get mad at yourself for ever feeling this way about someone who was so far out of your reach.
“Come on, it’ll be fun,” Lily said as you snapped out of your thoughts, leading you through the hallways in the direction of the Gryffindor stands.
“Yeah,” you mutter under your breath, with a twinge of sadness, making sure she wouldn’t hear, “for you.”
_______________
Gryffindor had won the match. Hufflepuff played exceptionally well, but it was no match for the Gryffindor’s brilliant offensive tactics.
As the Gryffindor seeker had caught the snitch, the cheering in the stands rang out. You, Lily and Marlene jumped up, screaming and clapping, overjoyed at this brilliant win.
“Come on,” Marlene said excitedly, “let’s go down to the pitch!”
“What?” you asked, alarmed. You did not want to be in close proximity to James right now. Not when his jersey would be clinging onto his body and his hair would be all sweaty and his face all red, making him look even more hands-
“Yes! Let’s go,” Lily agreed instantly, dragging you by the arm.
You groaned once again but you knew they wouldn’t listen. As you three, no, as you two were walking down, -- Marlene was practically skipping -- thoughts of the Quidditch match in action flooded your mind. James sent so many winks and smirks in Lily’s direction that you could’ve sworn by Merlin that some of them were to you. Or this was just wishful thinking. After all, Lily was sitting right beside you. You decide that this is just you getting confused -- but then again, why did Lily always glance your way after James smiled at you, as he scored a goal, expecting you to react in some way? And why did she look genuinely pleased, instead of having even the hint of jealousy in her eyes?
There’s nothing for her to be jealous about, you told yourself repeatedly, he was looking at Lily.
As you three reached the Quidditch pitch, you could see clumps of students, crowding the Quidditch players, congratulating them excitedly.
“Lily, I came to the match,” you tried to whisper to her as you two stood there, unsure of where to go, “can I please go study now?”
“No, [Y/N] [Y/L/N]!” providing special emphasis on your full name, yelling loudly, capturing the attention of everyone on the pitch. Everyone’s head turned to look at you as you seemed to shrink into yourself and Lily wore a proud smile on her face, looking at you slyly.
The mention of your full name had attracted a lot of unwanted attention. But it also, almost immediately, seemed to attract some wanted attention as well.
Well, not wanted, that wasn’t allowed as per your rules, but appreciated, nonetheless.
James’ head turned to you as he diverted his attention from some excited first-years to you and Lily. Your eyes had widened remarkably, your face had started to heat up and the butterflies in your stomach who had seemed to be asleep previously, had now woken up.
“Oh, would you look at that,” Lily said quickly, “Thomas Lee looks dashing, I’m going to go tell him congratulations!” And with that, she walked away from you and towards Lee, the Gryffindor keeper.
James had started walking over to you as you stood there awkwardly, not sure what to do. Do you meet him halfway? Do you keep standing there? Merlin, why did this have to be so difficult?
“[Y/N], so glad you could make it,” he smirked at you as he pushed his sweaty hair back.
“Uh, yeah, congratulations,” you said, trying to keep yourself from looking at his figure, “you played really well.”
“Thanks!” said James, with, what looked like, genuine gratefulness, before the look in his eyes turned cocky again, “Although, I’ve played better. This game was a piece of cake.”
“Of course,” you couldn’t help but smile softly at his words. This is the James you knew. The James you liked. The James you shouldn’t like.
“Speaking of cake!” he exclaimed suddenly, trying to salvage this conversation from turning awkward, “Thanks again for that cauldron cake! I was so bummed when I found they had run out.”
“Oh, no, don’t worry about it,” you told him politely, when you remembered something.
They hadn’t run out of cauldron cakes. In fact, they had them all piled up on the shelf right in front of the entrance. Before you could say anything, James started speaking again.
“Y’know, there’s a Hogsmeade trip coming up,” he started out confidently, but the slight shaking of his hands and the easy-to-miss quiver in his voice indicated otherwise.
“Yes, I know,” you told him, quietly. Was he telling you to ask Lily for him? Godric knows you would never be able to do that. “Lily knows too, so… you can ask her. I’m sure she’ll say yes.”
“What?” he looked very surprised, his eyebrows had furrowed as if he had no idea why you had mentioned that.
“The Hogsmeade trip. You should ask her. She might seem like she would say no but she’ll say yes.” You ignored the feeling of your heart sinking.
“But, I don’t want to.” he said with a slight shake of his head.
“What?”
“I wanted to ask you.” his voice had gotten unusually quiet.
You were in absolute shock, to say the least. James Potter wanted to ask you? To Hogsmeade? What about Lily?
“What about Lily?” you asked, confusedly, “I thought-- everyone thought--”
“I like you, not Evans,” he told you with no hesitation, “who said I liked her?”
“Literally everyone thinks so.”
“Well, they must have gotten the wrong idea.”
“But--”
“[Y/N], for someone so bloody smart, you are incredibly oblivious,” James said, with the slightest bit of his irritation showing through, “Didn’t you see me staring at you? Winking? For Merlin’s sake, there wasn’t a shortage of Cauldron Cakes back at Honeydukes! I just wanted to talk to you.”
“But you were staring at Lily,” you say defensively, “not me. Why would you do that?”
“Because… I like you?”
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes, I do!”
You shook your head in frustration. You couldn’t do this to Lily. This is not what best friends do. No, there is no way you would act on these feelings.
“Lily!” you turn away from James and make your way over to Lily, “we need to go.”
You drag Lily away from Lee and start making your way off the pitch, leaving Lee and James staring at you both in confusion.
“So, did you say yes?” she asked you as you tried to walk as fast as you could without making it seem like you’re running away.
“What?” you turn to her.
“To James? He asked you out, didn’t he?” she asked eagerly. You were surprised to see she wasn’t sad. At all. In fact, she seemed happy for you.
“But you like James,” you tried to tell her, trying to work this whole situation out, standing only a few feet away from James and Lee, who were watching this interaction intently. Didn’t she?
“I thought I did,” she told you, “but I think I only convinced myself that I did, because I thought he liked me. To be honest, I really don’t. And all those times you tried to tell me he was staring at me? It was always you, [Y/N], I just happened to be standing right beside you every time.”
“But, I--,” you struggled to find words.
“Look,” Lily said as she put a hand to your shoulder, “I know you like him. I also know he likes you. Why, in Merlin’s name, are you acting so oblivious?” she said, imitating your words from that trip to Honeydukes.
“You really don’t like him?” you asked, unsure of what you wanted the answer to be. On one hand, you would love to go out with James, on the other, you never wanted to hurt Lily’s feelings.
“No! Not even one bit,” she reassured you, “I’m a bit relieved, really, plus, I think I’ve found myself a keeper.” She turned away from you to face Lee, still stood a few feet away from you two, and smiled. Lee winked back. You laughed at this and reluctantly turned your head to James, also stood a few feet away from you. He stood with his confidence a little diminished, looking defeated. But he still gave you a small smile and waved awkwardly.
“Go! Say yes,” Lily told you, chuckling, “We can even go on double dates together.”
You rolled your eyes playfully at Lily before you took a deep breath in and started to make your way towards him.
“Hey.”
“Hi.”
“Um.”
“Let’s start over,” you told him as you straightened your posture and fixed your hair.
“Start over?” he asked, regaining the arrogance.
“Ask me out again, Potter,” you told him, having found confidence yourself after your talk with Lily. You no longer felt bad about liking James. And you felt even better knowing he liked you.
“Oh, yes!” James plastered his smirk back on his face, “There's a Hogsmeade trip coming up, [Y/N].”
“Yes, I’m aware,” you nodded and smiled, stifling giggles from erupting.
“Let’s go together.” he said cockily, his eyes twinkling.
“That was pathetic, James,” you said as you started to laugh softly.
“Hey!”
“But yes. Let’s,” you told him with a mischievous smile, “Maybe this time, I can help you find the very noticeable, hard-to-miss Cauldron Cake display.”
“Deal.” He sent you his infamous James Potter grin at which you grinned back.

A awwm with James
You were beyond tired. A long day at work and an evenlonger week ahead was expected. It made you feel mentally exhausted.
You collapsed on the sofa beside James once you had sentoff the last email and almost fell asleep on his shoulder “Hey Y/N,” yourboyfriend whispered, gently shaking you awake.
“I’m not asleep!” you declared, jumping up.
“You’re tired and stressed, I can see it. Wait here,” headded before you could protest. He returned with a blanket, your favourite filmand hot tea.
You could cry with generosity and caring…and you did.Tears rolled down your cheeks without warning as James wrapped you up. He kepthis arms around you, soothing you gently until you managed to stop the crying “Ilove you so much,” you whispered.
“I love you more,” James said, placing a kiss on yourhead.

Charmed
“I hate you guys so much right now” You whisper over your right shoulder as you flex your fingers from the copious amount of writing you’ve done. You side eye Sirius before turning back to your piece of parchment. You somehow landed yourself in detention with ‘The Marauders’ as they stupidly called themselves. Sure they were your friends, but this particular incident had nothing to do with you. This time you were just an innocent bystander just like everyone else.
“You can never hate someone you love,” You heard Sirius whisper from your left. The others giggle as you roll your eyes.
“Who said anything about love? Now, shut it before she comes back in,” As you finish your sentence Professor McGonagall sweeps back into the room.
“Your hour with me is done here. You may leave once you hand in your parchment.” You pack all your things in a flash, and are the first one out of the room. You almost make it back to the (Y/H) dormitories before James magically appears in front of you.
“How in the world d-?” you start, exasperated by his sudden appearance. “Never mind. What do you want now? Come back to get me in more trouble?” You grab onto the straps of your backpack defensively.
“Actually, that’s what I came to apologize for.” He leaned up casually against the wall, and stuck his hands in his pocket. “I really didn’t mean to get you in trouble today.” You rolled your eyes as he ran his fingers through his hair. It was always something that he did when he wanted to look cool.
“I’m not going to forgive you just because you rumple up your hair,” You say while crossing your arms in front of yourself. “And how was charming the suits of armor to scare students in the corridors supposed to be funny?”
“Well, I did see you laughing after you charmed them to run down Peter, Sirius, Remus, and I” You cracked into a reluctant smile as he raised an eyebrow.
“It was the first thing I could think of.” You replied as you tried to stop your smile from spreading at the thought of them sprawled out on the floor confused. James peeled himself away from the wall, and pulled your arms away from yourself, so he could hold your hands. He tilted his head down to peer at you from over his glasses.
“C’mon, I don’t want us to be fighting on our Hogsmeade trip tomorrow.” You scrunched up your face, thought about it for a second, a then broke out into a big smile.
“Fine, I’ll forgive you. IF our trip tomorrow is just us,” James eyebrows raised up, “meaning no Marauders following us around,” as he opened his mouth to interject you snuck in, “even under your invisibility cloak.” James seemed to deflate a bit.
“Fine.” he said narrowing his eyes.
“I forgive you then,” You replied pulling him in to give him a quick peck on the lips. As you walked away to finally walk into your dormitories you called over your shoulder, “You three under the tapestry better stick to that promise.” Smiling, you heard muffled laughter as the door closed behind you.

Thank you for running this blog to keep memory of tin man alife and his legacy protected from CRWBY and superfans. If you are able to, can you recommend fanfics involning Ironwood please? Preferably IronQrow, as its my favorite ship. Ironwood x Reader also would be fine, as I'm a massive simp.
Tumblr media
Just gonna combine these asks @zukokinnieuwu because they are very similar! But oh gosh I adore Hero with every fiber of my being. Caleb has an amazing voice and my gosh that song is just a powerful song for me and is a reminder of who James is and how much he cares and wants to keep people safe. I feel so bad for James and all he suffered through because of the writers so needlessly. Fan content does help a lot but it still makes me so painfully sad knowing the writers just don’t care. Thank you so much for your kind words!
Hey anon!! Thank you so much! I honestly love running this blog and finding and making content for James it's just so nice to be able to share my love for a character you know? As for fanfics I still haven't read nearly as many as I would like but I do have a few fics I do thoroughly recommend (Mostly IronQrow sorry not sorry)
You honestly cannot go wrong with anything written by @victorious1956 just they've got some great stuff especially in this years IronQrow Week department. Here is one fic I loved with all of the feels and tenderness in it.
I also love in general love Anderazu this fic here is pretty cute with some bonus points of some mischievous Penny as well which I love.
I would also recommend looking at this post I have here with my top ten favorite IronQrow fics. Okay nine cuz I wrote one of em deal with it.
I know you said you would prefer IQ but this is a CloverxJamesxQrow fic that yes it rated M but if you are cool with NSFW this fic is an amazing roller coaster ride and actually had me crying at one point and I think it is well worth the read.
I’ve only gotten around to read some of these but this series is literally called James Ironwood is treated better then me then by the original writers by the_tired_bisexual_agenda and uh it’s definitely true from what I’ve seen!
Ohhh and @awkward-tension-art (who also wrote the previous stuff) also wrote this amazing body positivity fic for James that I adore.
I also answered this ask from forever ago with a bunch of authors recommended to me from an IronQrow server I am in so most of these authors will be IronQrow.
Ohhh this is a really good Jamesxreader. again by the_tired_bisexual_agenda Very soft and gives me all the feels.
This fic by JamesBranwen is a lovely read and makes my heart melt every time.
LacePendragon has several very long IronQrow fics that are fantastic and I have not even finished them yet because I have no time oops but I recommend them very highly but here is a very sweet one shot that is just so soft and wonderful I adore it.
KiraH has this absolutely adorable winter fic that is too cute for words. It is pre relationship but oh they are both just so wonderful in this fic I love it.

Here you go!!
James and Y/N had been camping together for about 2 weeks.
James had found Y/N being removed from Ericson.
Y/N was angry but James moved slowly and approached from behind a tree.
“Hey,” he said. “Careful. Don’t yell. You’ll attract them.”
Y/N stared at him, confused and concerned.
He held out his hand.
Y/N hesitated.
They took it.
“Where are you going”?” He asked, watching Y/N stand up to leave one morning.
Y/N turned, confused. “To get us some food.”
“Alone?” He asked, shaking his head. “I’ll come.”
Y/N’s jaw parted, questioningly staring at him. “Why?”
James frowned. “I don’t want you to go alone.”
Y/N found comfort in that.
Their chest felt warm.
They weren’t alone anymore.
James was a nice partner to take to gather food.
He was patient. Careful. Peaceful.
An hour in, Y/N caught a rabbit.
“Wait,” James said, approaching the creature.
Y/N didn’t move, but watched, confused, as he knelt down beside it.
He touched it’s head. “Thank you for giving your life for us.”
The rabbit’s squirming momentarily calmed.
“Your life won’t be lost in vain. We’ll do good in your honor.”
He stared at the creature, sighing at how it’s leg bled.
He took out his knife and killed it.
“Can you carry it back?” He asked.
Y/N frowned and nodded. “Yeah,”
“Thank you.”
He walked a few paces ahead.
It broke Y/N’s heart to see him sad.
“You’re kind,” Y/N said.
James was sitting, back facing the fire, staring into the woods.
He didn’t want to watch the rabbit being cooked.
“Why do you say that?”
“You don’t want to hurt animals. Or people.” Their eyes softened. “Or anything.”
James hesitated. “It’s what we all should do.”
“But we don’t. Because we’re selfish.” Y/N said. “You override that, and that’s amazing.”
Y/N couldn’t see it, but he smiled.
Y/N could feel it.
James woke up next morning to see Y/N starting a fire.
He was wrapped in a blanket he hadn’t fallen asleep with.
He had a hat on.
Y/N noticed his stare lock onto theirs. “You were cold.” They said softly. “Shivering.”
James touched the hat on their head.
It was Y/N’s.
Y/N watched his cheeks go pink.
They just smiled.
“Hey,” James stood and held a hand back, keeping Y/N behind him.
There was a sound nearby.
“Stay behind me, okay?” His voice seemed pleading.
Y/N felt a calm in their heart.
James was desperate to keep them safe.
“Promise,” Y/N said.
James gave them a longing smile.
He held their stare for a beat longer than normal.
Y/N could swear their heart stopped.
It was a walker.
Quickly, James lured it away.
He immediately darted back to Y/N. “Are you okay? Nothing happened?”
Y/N shook their head, confused.
“Good.” James sighed. “I can’t lose you.”
Y/N’s eyes widened.
He sat beside them without another word.
That night, after dark, when the only light they had was fire, James hummed.
“What?” Y/N asked.
“I can’t lose you,” James said again.
Y/N’s smile fell, replaced with awe.
James looked at them. His stare was gentle. “You’re all I have.”
Y/N said nothing.
James watched the flames dance in their eyes.
It was beautiful.
James adjusted a piece of their hair that was misplaced.
Y/N gave a dorky smile.
James’ expression didn’t change.
They just stared at each other.
They stared gently and softly.
Lovingly.
“Can I kiss you?”
Y/N, who had turned to look at the fire, giggled. “I thought you’d never ask.”
James hesitates. “Yes?” He clarified.
Y/N thought it was sweet. “Yes.”
James smiled.
His thumb touched their chin as he brought them close.
His lips were soft and sweet.
Theirs felt rough but gentle.
Both of them smiled against each other.
James held them close all night.
He was staying watch.
He wanted to feel their embrace all night long.
Y/N was very okay with it.

Im not Her (JamesxReader) Pt.1
requested: kind of? someone asked something about James using the reader as a crutch when shit doesn’t work with Lily and it triggered this writing
warnings: angst, cursing, hints of sex
word count: 2.2k
*gif’s not mine*
Falling for him was easy.
Potions was spent passing notes while you muffled your giggles. Charms with his fingers intertwined with yours, your head rested on his shoulder. Dinner was spent discussing Quidditch teams and players or new pranks he was excited about. The chilly evenings were spent on the common room couch, his body draped over yours, his head on your chest as you ran your fingers through his hair and he talked to you about his family or things that were troubling him.
The nights were spent in his bed, you in one of his old jerseys or sweaters, his fingers tracing patterns along your hip as he talked about things he’d never told anybody else. You spilled your secrets not even your sister knew, those beautiful hazel eyes never once sharing a judgmental stare. He knew you like the back of his hand. He was your best friend.
He’d recently become fond of platonic kisses. Kisses on your forehead that set butterflies off in your stomach and chest. Kisses on your cheek that made you blush furiously, causing him to smile brightly. “Cute,” he’d brush his fingers softly along your face.
But they didn’t even compare to the short brush of his lips against yours. They always lasted a second and left you flustered and desperate for more. He’d grin stupidly and say he’d see you later and leave you standing there with your eyes glazed over until you came to your senses. He was driving you mad.
And you were completely and irrevocably in love with him.
But that didn’t matter. Because soon enough, she was all he could talk about. Fewer and fewer nights were spent in his bed until they stopped all together. You’d traded your seat beside his for one next to Moony, holding his hand and resting your head against his shoulder instead.
“It’s your own bloody fault i hope you know,” Remus had shaken his head as you watched James and Lily walk into class together, “You should have told him what you felt when you had the chance.”
“Moony please… don’t scold me now.. i can’t handle it,” you sighed and he frowned, pulling you in and pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
“Lets get to Potions yeah? Sirius knows the drill, you can sit with me and he’ll sit with James, keep him entertained with Quidditch or whatever,” he took your hand and you nodded, following him into class.
You were beginning to feel bad for Remus. You followed him everywhere and avoided James like the plague.
“You’d tell me if i was irritating you right?”
“Y/n your constant asking of that question is irritating me. I’m happy for the company. I can never get those idiots in here for more than an hour.”
“You’re really great to be around Moony… and that’s why you’ll agree to be my date to the bar tonight,” you grinned widely, batting your eyelashes when his eyes narrowed.
“Flattery will get you no where,” he shut the book he was reading and placed it back on the shelf, reaching for another one. You took advantage of this momentary distraction to wrap your arms around his waist, nearly knocking him over.
“Please Moony, please! I don’t want to run into James while he gushes over Lily and Sirius is just gonna ditch me as soon as some pretty girl walks along. Please!”
“What bar are you talking about? The Three Broomsticks?”
“No.. everyone was talking about… sneaking off to the neighboring village…”
“You’re crazy,” he shook his head and you pouted.
“I’ll buy you chocolate….” he huffed and you grinned when he finally rolled his eyes and nodded.
“Alright! But I’m not dancing.”
******
You leaned into your mirror, brushing your hair out of your face before applying your lipstick. You stood back and smiled at your reflection.
You looked good.
It was a rare feeling with you to ever appreciate the way you looked but tonight you knew you’d turn heads. Not that any of them mattered if one particular head didn’t turn. You shook your head as if to clear the negative thought and smiled, smoothing out the front of your black dress. You loved the way it accentuated your curves and the length of your legs. A small knock on your door interrupted your dreams of being on the runway, “Come in!”
“Ready?” He shut the door behind him. You turned to look at him, a blush creeping along his face when your eyes travelled down his body.
His curls were combed neatly, some of them spilling onto his forehead in a fringe like manner. The top three buttons of his charcoal grey button down were worn undone and his sleeves rolled up his forearms.
“Damn Moony, you look hot,” you grinned and he chuckled, a ghost of the blush still present on his face.
“You’re looking pretty stunning yourself, y/n,” he smiled then immediately frowned, “you’re not ready? Come on, we’ll be late and there’ll be no point in going.”
“We might not leave the room at all,” you winked and he smirked.
“Stop flirting with me, you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.”
“I’m ready, just help me, knee highs or ankle boots.. heels?”
“Knee highs! Merlin, I always thought those were sexy.” You chuckled as he slumped on your bed and watched you pull on your boots. You pulled on your coat then took his hand, pulling him up and he stood beside you. You smiled, admiring your reflection. You glanced at your intertwined fingers and then back at him.
“We look hot.”
“Yes you do,” he lead you out of your dorm and out of the castle grounds.
All eyes were immediately on you as you walked in. The girls, and some guys,  practically undressed Moony with their eyes. Despite all the jokes, he really did look great. You made your way to the bar with him and sat on a stool besides Sirius.
“Well hello you two. Aren’t you looking ravishing tonight,” he grinned as he passed you cups of punch, “can i take one of you home tonight?”
“Maybe if you’re lucky you can take us both home,” you winked and he chuckled.
“I’ll take you up on that.” You started to loosen up with the drinks, Sirius had a brilliant talent of cheering anybody up. He could make a room of lethargic people laugh. You sighed happily, resting your head on Moony’s shoulder as you turned to face the dance floor. Your smile fell apart slowly when you saw them.
He looked good.
His usually messy hair was worn tousled, his glasses worn haphazardly low on the bridge of his nose. He wore a charcoal grey sweater that contrasted beautifully against his pale skin. He smiled a beautifully, amazingly happy smile at her and a frown etched itself along your face.
“Come on,” Remus took your fourth cup, or was it your fifth?
“Where we goin?” you stumbled when you hopped off the stool and he shook his head with a small chuckle. He lead you to the jukebox and put in a quarter, something slow starting up before he placed your hands on his shoulders and pulled you in. You grinned widely, feigning a dramatic gasp. “I thought you said you weren’t dancing?”
“Humor me,” he shrugged and you smiled, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“You’re really great for someone who doesn’t like to dance. Pretty light on your feet Mr. Lupin,” you said in your very best posh voice.
“Alright,” he rolled his eyes but the smile that spread across his face betrayed him.
Across the room he huffed, watching as you two danced. It had been so sudden, the way you’d just started to disappear. Suddenly you were all about Moony, wearing his sweater instead of James’, sitting next to him in potions and holding his hand.
“Hello? Are you even listening Potter?” Lily waved a hand in front of his face before following his gaze and shaking her head. “You’re a real git you know that? Maybe next time you’ll take the time to sort out your feelings before asking me out on a date, hmm?” she stood up irritatedly and stormed out.
“Lils…” James called after her halfheartedly before turning back to the dance floor. What was wrong with him? He’d waited ages to date Lily… but being with her only seemed to remind him more of your absence and how… she wasn’t you. He stood and made his way towards the dance floor, clearing his throat loudly to catch Remus’ attention. “May i cut in?”
Remus turned to look at you, raising an eyebrow before you nodded. “I’ll be right over there if you need me,” he whispered before walking away.
Your stomach dipped when he placed his hands on your hips and you cursed yourself internally for still allowing him to have that influence over you.
“Hello stranger,” his smile was forced, his expression unreadable.
“James,” you smiled softly and he sighed deeply.
“I’ve really missed you. Why did you disappear…. Just gone and replaced me with Moony?”
You stopped cold as your smile fell, you stared at him incredulous, “I’m gonna pretend you didn’t say that…”
“You don’t like to hear the truth?” he asked bitterly, condescendingly.
“You’re a real prick…” you whispered before turning towards the bar and grabbing your coat. “Don’t follow me,” you mumbled to Remus when he began to ask and rushed out of the bar. The cold didn’t phase you as you stormed back to the castle. You couldn’t believe him…. the audacity! the nerve of him! You dropped your coat on the sofa and slumped into it before the sound of the portrait swinging open interrupted you. You grabbed your coat and started towards the stairs before he caught your arm.
“Why? Why did you replace me?” you yanked your arm from his grip.
“You idiot!”
“You fancy him now? Hmm? Prefer him over me? Just tell me!”
“No!” you yelled over him, watching him visibly shrink as you advanced towards him. “He was being a good friend to me when I needed one! Did it never occur to you that you were hurting me by talking about her nonstop when I was in your bed? That all you did was gush about her while your head was on my chest? And then you’d kiss me or hold my hand in class and ditch me for her again. How could you be so selfish? You only thought about your own feelings not mine. I can’t keep doing this back and forth with you James, I’m not her, and i won’t allow you to keep hurting me with your indecision,” you shook your head, your voice growing quieter as tears sprung to your eyes and you lowered your gaze to the floor, “I didn’t replace anybody… you replaced me.”
A look of hurt marred his features when you brushed away your tears. You’d never talked to him about your feelings but they couldnt have been more obvious. He should have known you’d felt the same. He should have known what he was doing to you. “I don’t want to hurt you. I want to make you happy, the way you make me happy. Seeing you with Moony,” he sighed and shook his head because he knew, “it really hurt because that used to be me. I love you,” he pressed his hands to your face to make you look at him, brushing your tears away with his thumbs before pressing his forehead to yours, “Im sorry I didn’t tell you sooner.”
“You’re such an idiot,” you whispered, and he shut his eyes.
“I know,” and then his lips were on yours. It was more than you could have ever imagined. How long had you waited to hear those words? It wasn’t exactly ideal to have somebody confess their love to you through an apology, but you’d finally heard it. How long had you waited for him to properly kiss you? To have his fingers tangle in your hair as his tongue caress yours? You didn’t know but nothing in your wildest fantasies or imagination could have prepared you for the way he groaned against your lips as he lifted you and wrapped your legs around his waist before carrying you to his dorm.
*******
You woke to a stream of sunlight coming through the curtains of his fourposter bed. You turned to face him and his arms tightened around you, pulling you into his chest before he settled in again. You ran your fingers softly along a love bite on his chest, your cheeks coloring as memories of last night’s events came flooding back into your mind. The feel of his lips along your skin, not leaving an inch uncovered. His fingers bruising into your thighs and hips as he made love to you. The string of moans and profanities against your neck as he reached his release. You pressed your face into his chest, unable to contain the smile that spread across your face.
“Good morning love,” he mumbled, his voice deep, thick with sleep.
“Hi,” you turned to look at him and he smiled, removing a strand of hair from your face and placing it gently behind your ear. His fingers caressed your cheek softly and you sighed, leaning into his touch. He began to lean in when a knock at his door interrupted you. You moved off him and he pulled on his sweats, picking up an old t shirt before answering the door.
“Lily?”
Alright whale there it is… emmm I think I’m gonna write a part two for this…. maybe let me know what you think… if ya like it. If ya do then def stay tuned for part two :)

You were sitting between Remus and Sirius at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall, trying to force any kind of food down your throat, unsuccessfully. You were watching James Potter, the man who has secretly stolen your heart, flirting his way into Lily Evans' pants. It was not an usual sight, but for you it was heart breaking to watch over and over again, each and every day.
You wanted to scream, which you have internally done so, already. You wanted to break things, you wanted to punch people, you were fuming. Fuming wasn't even the right word to describe your feelings. You wanted people to feel the pain you were harbouring. You wanted to hurt people and it scared you. You weren't that kind of a person. Sure, you had bad days and worst days, but you were never one to inflict pain on anyone.
This was different. You wanted to hurt them. You wanted them to feel your pain. How could they laugh so casually while you were trying to suppress all of your feelings, not to break the friendship you have had with James? How could he do this to you? Easily. He wasn't even aware of your feelings, he didn't even dare to imagine that you would ever feel something for him. He was stupid enough to think that you were too good for him and you were dumb enough to think that his feelings were real towards Lily. She was just a carefully planned distraction, but you couldn't have known that. Oh Godric, how he wished you were feeling something for him. Even if just a tiny part of what he was feeling for you, he would have been happy with just a fraction of it or even less, instead of nothing.
Lily's soft laugh triggered you. You closed your eyes, trying to hide the scene unfolding in front of you, not wanting to see any more of their gentle cuddles and seductive whisperings. You heaved deep sighs, trying to get rid of your thoughts of them, trying to close them out as quickly as you could. It hurt. It pulled your chest into a suffocating state, creating a lump in your throat. But then she laughed again with that flirtatious tone of hers, James joining in with ease. You opened your eyes and an enormous blast shook the walls of the Great Hall as the table in front of you broke in half with a loud cracking sound, causing students to jump in a scared state, gasp at the unusual scene. You kept blinking abruptly in surprise. You didn't know what happened. It wasn't you. You couldn't have done it. You looked at Dumbledore and as if he knew something, he didn't take his knowing eyes off you. You were utterly confused, you didn't know what to do.
Sirius and Remus looked at each other, then at you. You returned their surprised gaze, not understanding what was happening. You looked across the table, where James and Lily were looking around as well, as if searching for the culprit. As his gaze stopped on you, captivating yours, you turned away, not even wanting to look into those hazel eyes you cherished so much. As Remus stood up, you followed him, wanting to get away from the couple as soon as possible.
*
You were sitting at a table alone in the library, writing your transfiguration essay for Professor Mcgonagall, when you overheard a quiet giggle. You looked behind you with a painful gaze. You didn't want to see it, you didn't want to hear it. Not again. But there they were. James leaning over the table, whispering into Lily's ear as he caressed her chin, before running his thumb across her lips, turning her gaze into a lustful one as she lifted her face to look up at him. You physically felt the pain in your chest as it compressed under the heavy weight of your feelings.
You turned back to your table, trying to focus on whatever your book was trying to explain to you, unsuccessfully. You had no way to concentrate. He was laughing so happily at something Lily said. That laugh, that usually warmed your heart, now felt like a knife stabbing through your chest. You didn't even realise when a tear rolled down your face. You were hurting. More than you ever thought it would hurt. He was happy and you wanted to see him happy. But it was killing you inside.
You closed your eyes, trying to clam yourself. You took a couple of deep breaths, feeling successful as the tears stopped coming down your cheeks. You opened yours eyes, leaning back over your parchment, when a snickering tone left Lily's lips, sending you over the edge. You wanted to scream at the tightening feeling around your heart, but it didn't come. Instead, as if a dark magic took over the library, all the old, dusty lightbulbs shattered into tiny pieces, leaving the place in darkness, its only form of light coming in through the corridor. You jumped back scared, shaking. You looked around, gasping for air.  Was it really you? You could feel an intense stare directed at you and as you turned to the side, you could see James looking at you with a confused expression. You snapped your eyes back to your table, rushing to pack all of your books, notes and quills into your bag, before hurrying out of the library.
*
You couldn't sleep more than a couple of hours. You were exhausted, you wished to just fall back into slumber, but it never came. You skipped your breakfast and went straight to the Transfiguration classroom, not wanting to talk to anyone. You were scared. There was something wrong with you. You wanted to avoid anyone getting closer to you.
Students started to gather around the classroom, waiting for Professor McGonagall to arrive. But before she appeared, you felt a hand on your shoulder. You quickly jumped away, brushing the hand off you. You turned around to see James with deep, furrowed brows, worry clearly plastered across his face.
"What is going on? You are acting strange." He stated the obvious. You just shook your head, hugging your own fragile body, not wanting to talk to him. You walked over to the other side of the corridor, taking out your Transfiguration book from your bag, turning to the page you didn't finish the day before. You could feel his intense stare on you, but you didn't budge.
Soon enough McGonagall arrived to the classroom, letting people in to take their seats, before she started her monologue on the subject of the essay you have written. You concentrated on her every word, finally feeling like your brain was functioning without thinking of the boy who was breaking your heart into the smallest pieces.
But then the door opened and all the students looked at the back of the classroom, where Professor Dumbledore stood elegantly, looking around the students.
"Minerva, if you don't mind, could I please borrow Miss. Y/L/N?" He asked, adjusting the way his glasses sat on his crooked nose. He didn't even take his eyes off you, even while talking to Professor McGonagall. Your eyes widened, your brows ran high in surprise. But then as it hit you, you knew why he needed you. You were doing dangerous things. Things that you shouldn't have. You were scared of being expelled, you didn't want to follow him.
"Of course." She replied, but you didn't move. You were scared of what were to happen and just stared at McGonagall's face hoping to change her mind. "Miss Y/L/N." She called you and you started reluctantly packing away your belongings. You walked around your table, catching James' worried eyes, but you didn't give it a second thought. You had to think about yourself now.
You followed Professor Dumbledore out of the classroom, through the corridors of the castle, up to his office, where he offered you to sit down across his table, while he took a seat in his chair.
"I am assuming, you know why I have asked you to come with me, Miss. Y/L/H." He spoke in a firm, but slightly soft tone. As if he was more concerned, than furious about your wrongdoings. You nodded along with guilt clearly showing across your face. "Could you please explain to me what is happening, so I can help to understand?" He asked, leaning forward on his table, as if he was indicating with his body language that he was more curious, than angry.
"I..." You started, but you weren't sure what you have actually done, or how you have even executed the things that happened.
"Let me help you." He spoke again. "If I'm assuming correctly, both the incident in the Great Hall and the Library are connected to you." You scrunched up your nose and furrowed your brows, hearing him blame you for the things you couldn't even explain. "Miss Y/L/N, noone is blaming you for it. These things can happen and this is not the first time I have seen a student lose control of the magic they harboured." Your eyes shot up, feeling a slight hope shine through you. "On occasions, our magic can even take on a physical form on its own. There are things we are capable of, even though we are not even aware of them. Your magic is one of a kind, but it has to be controlled. While this shows that you have unexceptionally great skills by birth, if it's not controlled carefully, it can cause fatal damages."
"But I can't control it." You tried to argue with him desperately.
"I am aware of that. That is why I have called you here. I want to help you." You looked up at him with questioning eyes. "Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick will be helping you to learn to control you magic. It will not be easy and you will have to practice a lot, but when it's done, you will be able to control it, even when your feelings are scattered all over the place." He smiled knowingly.
"How did the Professor know that my feelings..." You wanted to finish your sentence, but he cut you off.
"The easiest way to lose control, even in magic with a wand, is by our feelings. What you feel, will always affect you. Your wand and your magic both feel what you do, that is why you have to control yourself." You nodded, a small smile appearing in the corner of your lips, feeling relieved at the thought that things were to feel normal again.
*
For days you kept disappearing after classes and didn't reappear up until late hours. You were working hard with Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick, while you got permission from Professor Dumbledore to attend to the Library after closing to be able to catch up on your studies after the special lessons.
Your disappearance was getting harder to miss and while you thought only Remus realised that you were gone longer than usual, you couldn't have known that James was rather concerned, borderline upset that he didn't know what you have been up to since your abrupt leave with Dumbledore.
Dumbledore has asked you to try to refrain yourself from any emotional impact that could compromise your learning period, therefore you have avoided James wherever you could. You wanted to, you needed to achieve full control over your magic and you had no intention of sabotaging that with James and Lily being... you didn't even want to think about it. You didn't want the distraction to take over you.
On your most recent lesson Professor McGonagall asked you to bring along a friend who could help you stay in control, while you slowly got back into your normal routine. There was only one person you could think of. Remus. He was the one person who never hurt you, the one person you could fully trust. You chose him. You just hoped he would agree.
As you walked downstairs to the Gryffindor common room, you heard Remus' voice as he was talking to his friends. You were on the way to your lesson and as you didn't have time to ask him before, this was your only chance.
You walked right next to the couch he was seated at, crouching down next to it, placing your hand on the arm of the sofa, waiting for him to realise your presence. He looked down at you with a questioning look on his face.
"Is everything okay?" He asked and you nodded.
"I just... I could use your help." You hoped he would understand, that whatever you needed from him, wasn't something you wanted to discuss while everyone was around.
"Yes, of course." He smiled softly and stood up, walking after you. You could feel your friends' eyes on you, but you didn't care. You did actually, one certain person's, as you saw James' confused frown from your peripheral vision, but you just shook it off and placed it at the deepest part of your mind. You needed to concentrate on yourself now. That was your priority.
As you walked to the classroom, Remus followed you diligently, not even asking any questions. You were glad he didn't. You weren't sure what to say or rather how to say it. You opened the door to the Transfiguration classroom, where McGonagall was seated behind her desk, reading upon some of the essays her students handed in. As Remus stepped inside too, with a frown across his brows, you closed the door and walked to the front of the room with Remus right behind you.
"Ah, Miss Y/L/N and Mr. Lupin." She smiled knowingly. "While I wish I could say I am surprised to see Mr. Lupin here, I assumed, he would be your choice."
"I'm not really sure what is happening here." Remus looked at you in confusion.
"Oh..." Professor McGonagall exhaled slowly. You cleared your throat and turned towards Remus with a guilty expression across your face.
"I need your help." You sighed desperately. "My magic has been hard to control lately and with Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick, I have been practicing to keep it in bay. However, they can not always keep an eye on me. I needed someone, who I trusted enough to help me when I am about to lose control." You spoke in a humble tone, not knowing how he would react.
"I will help." He replied, but as if you have missed his answer, you continued.
"Of course, it's not forever. I have been working hard to keep my magic under control and it has been working very well lately. I just need someone who would calm me down, when I feel like I lose control." You kept going on.
"Y/N, I will help." Remus repeated himself, but once again, your mind wasn't ready to accept it.
"If you don't want to do it, I completely understand, I have been doing this on my own for a while, I can control it quite well now. It would just be a safe place for me that you know about it and you are able to help before I do something..." Remus stepped closer, putting his hand on my shoulder, lifting your face with his other.
"I said, I would help." He chuckled softly. "You don't need to explain yourself to me. Tell me what to do and I will help." You looked at him with as much adoration as you could. You didn't understand, how you could have been so lucky to find such a great friend in him. You nodded at him with a light smile across your face, before giving him a grateful hug.
McGonagall stood up from her chair and walked over to you, putting each of her hands on your and Remus' shoulder.
"Mr. Lupin, I will be teaching you a bit more about Legilimency today. I am aware of your knowledge on the subject, but this will help you to practice with Miss Y/L/N, to keep her magic in control. " Remus nodded in agreement, listening to McGonagall, eagerly. You were glad to chose him and even more glad that he agreed. "But first, we will practice."
The professor sent Remus to take a seat in one of the desks, before she turned to you and started the practice without a warning.
"Legilimens!" She waved her wand at you. She already knew the memories she had to look for and didn't take her more than a couple of seconds to find them.
You saw Lily placing her hand on James' shoulder as she giggled at his witty remarks.
You saw James caressing her cheeks, while whispering seductive words into her ear, brushing his lips across her earlobe.
You wanted to scream, you felt your body trembled at the memories. McGonagall was more brutal then usual, bringing out your worst memories, not letting you even rest in between.
You saw as James linked his finger's with Lily's, while placing his other hand on the wall right next to her head, slowly closing the distance between their face.
You wanted to scream, you wanted to cry, you could feel your tears rolling down your cheeks, but the professor didn't stop. You felt your body heat up from anger, you felt the need to release. You knew what was about to happen. Your emotions took over your magic and once again you lost control. You felt the ground shake under you and you cursed yourself for not being able to maintain your calmness. However, before you could have destroyed anything, Remus stood up and walked beside you, getting hold of your hand, gently gripping, squeezing it, to pull you back to reality.
You were surprised. You didn't have your emotions overpowering you anymore and your magic seemed to have restrained itself again. You looked at Remus with the widest eyes, not understanding the situation.
"Brilliant." Professor McGonagall spoke with a wide smile across her face. "We might have just found a way to help you."
You kept practicing for a couple of hours, the professor using Legilimency and Remus grabbing your hand or your shoulder when you were about to lose control. It seemed to be working and you were glad that you have found a way.
Remus has been educated on some additional information of the subject, but he seemed to be on top of everything before the professor could have even explained. Godric knows how lucky you felt to have him around.
*
As time has gone by, you have been practicing with Remus each day, but it did make it harder before and after the full moon. He kept apologising to you for not being able to be by your side, but it broke your heart to think that he was feeling guilty of such a minor issue. You were more worried about him getting better and being himself, than your little magical override.
You were seated in the common room, right next to Remus as you two were whispering to each other. James was sitting across you in an armchair, not even taking his eyes off you and Remus for a second. He was angry. He was jealous. He didn't want to see his best friend and the girl he loved being so comfortable with each other. He wanted that with you. But he didn't have the courage to say it.
He tried to district himself by starting a rather meaningless conversation with Sirius, but as he heard your light giggle and saw that huge grin across Remus' face, he lost it.
"Can you just stop it?" He asked, raising his voice as he stood up, looking down at you. Your body tensed as you looked up at him, utterly confused by his behaviour.
"What are you talking about?" Remus spoke before you had the time to form your words.
"Whatever you are doing. Giggling happily, always disappearing with each other. Do you think I didn't see when you held her hand in the Great Hall today morning?" He was as angry as you have never seen him before.
"It's none of your business." You replied casually.
"It is though. I am supposed to be your best friend, still one day you start disappearing after classes and only return in the late hours of the night without telling me what happened to you. Then you drag Remus with you, with no explanation and you start disappearing together each and every day. And if that's not enough, first Remus is holding onto your hand and later on you are sitting here giggling at each other. Be honest, are you together?" You could clearly see the hurt on his face, eagerly waiting for an answer.
"What if we are?" You asked, feeling Remus' surprised stare on your face. James' hazel eyes widened, his demeanour seemed stiff. He fell back onto his armchair, looking down to the floor, trying to process the news. He thought it was painful to accept that you would never like him. He thought it was killing him that he started to realise how you and his friend got closer to each other. But knowing that his friend got the one girl he loved, his friend would be the one cuddling you, his friend would be the one kissing you, made him feel completely defeated.
"We are not!" Remus interrupted his friend's self-disruptive thoughts. James looked up at you and Remus with disbelief in his eyes.
"Why would you say that?" James asked, while shaking his head in disbelief, looking into your eyes.
"I didn't say anything. 'What if we are?' is a question." You shrugged casually. You wished he was hurting as bad you were when he was around Lily.
"It's not funny." He scoffed, anger clearly plastered across his face.
"We clearly don't have the same sense of humour." You retorted, but he stood up again, irritated by your behaviour.
"What has gotten into you? Where is the girl that I could talk to about anything? That I could wake up at the middle of the night if I had a problem?" James was almost shaking out of anger.
"Evans is probably upstairs." You grimaced.
"Leave Lily out of it. I am talking about you." He hissed through clenched teeth.
"Oh, that so called friendship?" You scoffed. "That friendship went out the window when you started chasing after Evans, completely ignoring friends like... oh, me!" You growled, feeling your blood pressure rising, your heart beating fast against your ribcage.
"I never ignored you." He spoke, causing you to burst into a devilish laughter.
"Oh please, don't make me laugh." You rolled your eyes.
"You know what fine. Have it your way. Let's say, I ignored you, what did you do?" He asked as your body tensed up.
"Don't dare to turn it around, Potter." You hissed in anger. He knew calling his last name meant you were rather pissed off, but he decided to push it.
"Why, truth hurts? You are still keeping secrets from me and instead you cuddle up with Remus whispering little nothings in to each others ears." He growled, anger clear in his tone. You were upset, you felt your feelings clouding your judgment and it all downed on you as you felt the air getting colder in the room. You felt Remus standing next to you, placing his hand, trying to calm you down. You could feel the tension slowly leaving your body, but James didn't want to let it slide. "Take your hands off her!" He shouted. For the first time ever, raising his voice against Remus.
"Don't you ever dare to talk to him like that again." You spit in anger as you took deep breaths to steady your emotions. Remus' hand didn't move, gently gripping your shoulder, giving you just enough pressure to keep your mind clear.
James was looking at you and Remus, incapable of understanding what was happening. He could only see his hand on you and it made him want to pounce on his friend. As you calmed down, you sat back onto the couch, but Remus stood still.
"You need to talk to each other." He spoke, grabbing Sirius' wrist to pull him after himself.
"But Remus..." You wanted to dispute it, but he didn't listen.
"Don't argue with me. You know where the problem originated from in the first place." He spoke firmly and dragged a dumbfounded Sirius after himself, up the male dormitory.
"What is he talking about?" James stood in front of you, before he decided to take a seat beside you. "What is going on?" His eyes fixated on the side of your face, but you couldn't turn to look at him. "Talk to me, please." He was almost begging you, but you didn't know how to start. You heaved a deep sigh, before searching for the right words, while you nervously played with your hands.
"A couple of weeks ago, I lost control of my magic." You started.
"I thought it was you." He spoke, forcing your head to snap towards his direction in surprise. "The table in the Great Hall and the lamps in the library or even the temperature today." You nodded at him.
"I wasn't able to control my magic. It scared me that I could have done something dangerous. On the day when Dumbledore came to transfiguration, he offered to help me." You took a deep sigh before continuing. "I was taking special lessons with Professor McGonagall and Flitwick. They helped me to try to gain back the control over my magic. However I needed someone who could keep me in check when they couldn't. Who could practice with me when I needed. Remus was an obvious choice. He is a good friend of mine and he is an excellent student. All that you saw, was because he was helping me." You let out a deep sigh as you finished. You kept playing with your hands to divert your attention from him.
"Why didn't you ask me? I always thought we were closer." He furrowed his brows with a hurt expression across his face.
"We were, but I wasn't lying when I said that you started ignoring me. I really felt like it was all about Lily. And..." You swallowed hard before you continued. "And of course you want to be with her more, it's natural, but I didn't feel the support from you so I chose Remus. But if I want to be completely honest, I wouldn't have chosen you anyway." His face grew more concerned.
"Why?" He asked. You thought that's it. You needed to be honest. Brutally honest.
"Because you were the main reason for losing the control over my magic." His eyes widened in surprise.
"What did I do?" You didn't really know how to tell him, how to explain it to him.
"You fell for Lily." You said bluntly. "It hurt and it hurt to a point where my magic took off on its own."
"What?" He was almost whispering.
"It was painful to know that the man I love is with another girl. But it was even more painful to watch as you cuddled into each other or whispered into one another's ears." You kept your focus on the fireplace, not wanting to look into his eyes and seeing the rejection. "It made me angry. Angry to a point that my magic was uncontrollable."
"You... You like me?" He sighed the last part. You didn't answer though, you didn't want to say it. You just nodded to respond to his question. "Why did you not tell me?" You scoffed at the reply and for the first time, you looked into his Hazel eyes. You felt your eyes tear up, but you didn't care.
"That would have been fun. Me confessing my undying love for you, while you confess your love for eternity to Lily. Maybe, you did not think that through, but I did. Believe me. Not once." You chuckled painfully at the ridiculous thought.
"You should have told me." He raised his voice and before you could have reacted, his lips attached to yours, while cupping your cheeks. You were shocked and you even forgot to kiss back. He pulled away with a disappointed look on his face. "I'm sorry."
"Why did you do that?" You felt your heart throbbing up in your throat. You felt so confused.
"Because I like you." He spoke with a soft smile across his face. You wanted to ask him numerous questions, but he spoke before you could have. "I have always liked you. I thought, even if you just returned part of what I felt for you, I would have been the happiest person alive. But I didn't even dare to imagine that you could have feelings for me. So I went for the next best option. Finding a replacement would be completely different from you to try to avert my feelings for you."
"Why didn't you say anything?" You asked this time.
"I didn't think I was good enough for you." He stated casually as if he was still thinking that way.
"Are you being serious right now?" You scoffed. "You, James Potter?"
"I don't think you are aware of yourself." He smirked and you couldn't hold it in anymore. You leaned over and kissed him with all the suppressed emotions you have been harbouring. He returned it just as hungrily, not wanting to let you go even for a second. You felt like your lips moulded together as if they belonged with each other. You wanted to to stay in his arms for as long as you could. You smiled into the kiss, making him chuckle at you. You didn't even realise the colourful flower petals falling from above you, up until it fell on your face. You parted and both of you looked up in the air. You knew it was you and looked at James with an apologetic gaze and grimace across your face.
"I'm sorry. I am still struggling to control it sometimes. I really think you are not a good influence." He chuckled at you as he pulled you closer, into a tight embrace, hiding his face in the crook of your neck. You didn't need more to understand his feelings. It was all in his kisses and hugs.
Tumblr media
"Until you are not breaking anything, including me, I don't mind whatever you are doing." He smiled as looked into your eyes.
He caressed your cheeks as he pulled you into his chest. You rested your head against his heart, listening to the fastened beating. You felt content and you had a good feeling about the near future.

What would meeting James Kidd involve? I just need some Kidd love
And it’s coming, anon! I think I didn’t say much about meeting him but also kinda gave some of my general headcannons about James-I hope that’s alright with you!
James feeling attracted to you ever since he met you
Seriously he couldn’t keep his eyes off you
Making a lot of jokes while he introduces himself to you just to see if he can make you smile
James acting funny af afterwards
It not being really obvious at first
Edward telling him to stop asking him when you are going to visit the Jackdaw again in a not-so-kind way
He thought he was being subtle
But obviously he was not
Being an absolute dork when it comes to you
James being delighted each time he sees you
Edward making fun of him
Telling him that if he likes you he should grow a pair and ask you out
James snapping at Edward while trying to defend himself because he CAN’T FREAKING HAVE FEELINGS FOR YOU
Subconciously doing a lot of (ridiculous) things in his attempts to impress you
Him always making you laugh
Him always being extraordinary happy when you are around
Edward kind of regretting introducing you to him because now James always seams distracted

Polyamorous James x Reader x Bruce where Bruce and James want to surprise Reader with a gift an end up getting the same gift for her.
“Are you ready?” Bruce asked, bounced on the couch, bumping shoulders with you.
“Yes, yes. I’m ready.” You give in. James and Bruce had woken you up with kisses and wandering hands then treated you to breakfast in bed.
“Mine first?” James asks, plopping down on the other side of you. “Or Bruce’s?” You shrug so they play rock-paper-scissors to determine and James cheers when he wins.
“Okay, hand it over.” You smile. You pull the paper off the box and shriek. “You did not!”
“I did!” James nods. It was a figure of one of your favorite anime characters.
“You did not!” Bruce also says, frowning at James.
“What?” He says, confused, and Bruce unwraps the present he’d gotten for you: the exact same figure.
“Oh my god.” You burst into laughter. “You nerds!”
“I bought mine first.” Bruce pouts.
“You didn’t talk to each other first?” You ask them, still chuckling.
“No.” James admits meekly, shrugging.
“Oh, god, I love you two.”
