Rainy Night

The clock on their dresser showed 12:34 when Jamie got up, careful not to wake Kevin, who was sleeping next to him. As quietly as he could manage, Jamie padded to the kitchen. 

It had been a rough week for him. It had been raining nonstop which made Jamie's job a lot harder.

He already wasn't particularly fond of the rain, that paired with getting soaked on a daily basis, made his job miserable.

Not only that but the number of people who had yelled at him because their mail had been wet was astonishing.

Jamie sighed and took a bowl out of the cabinet and grabbed a packet of ramen.

He crushed up the noodles inside before pouring them into the bowl and adding water. Jamie put the bowl in the microwave and set it for two minutes.

He scrolled on his phone while he waited, listening to the rain pound against the windows. He jumped when the microwave beeped, their microwave always beeped obnoxiously loud.

Jamie turned to stop it and took out his bowl, adding in the flavor packet.

"You're up?" He heard Kevin ask

"Yeah" Jamie replied, setting the bowl down on the counter and taking out a fork "did I wake you?"

"Nah, the microwave did," Kevin said, sitting down next to Jamie

"Sorry" 

"It's alright" Kevin reassured, wrapping an arm around him and kissing the side of his head, "jeez, it's raining cats and dogs out there"

"Yeah..." said Jamie, looking away

"What's wrong?" Asked Kevin, concern filling his voice

"It's just been a rough week" Jamie sighed "and the rain really isn't helping"

Kevin pulled him close and kissed the top of his head again, this time gently rubbing his thumb over Jamie's cheekbone.

This caused Jamie to melt into his boyfriend's arms as he closed his eyes, letting out a sigh.

"I'm sorry babe" Kevin mumbled, running his hand through Jamie's hair and massaging circles along his back. 

"It's fine" Jamie replied, resting his forehead on Kevin's shoulder. 

"We should really go back to bed, sleep helps everything" Kevin suggested, face buried in Jamie's hair.

Jamie nodded silently

"What about my noodles?" He asked

"Alright, finish your noodles" Kevin chuckled 

Jamie laughed and finished eating, putting his bowl in the sink.

"Okay, let's go" Jamie mumbled 

"Want me to carry you?" Asked Kevin

"In your dreams" Jamie teased

The two of them walked back to the bedroom, cuddling up together under the covers.

"Love you" Kevin whispered

"Love you too, Kev" Jamie whispered back, resting his face in the crook of Kevin's neck

Another Nightmare

“Morning babe,” Kevin asked, as soon as Jamie woke up.

“Morning,” Jamie replied, sitting up next to him.

“Are you feeling any better?” Kevin asked, pressing a chaste kiss to his lips.

“I guess” Jamie mumbled, “I didn’t have any more nightmares, so that’s good.”

Kevin wrapped an arm around him, “do you want something to eat?”

''Yeah,” Jamie agreed, getting up and padding into the kitchen.

“What do you want?” Kevin asked, looking through the half-empty cabinets.

“Cereal’s fine” Jamie replied, sitting down at the kitchen island. He yawned as he poured himself cereal, blinking blearily as he ate.

“You ok?” Kevin asked, concern evident in his voice, sitting next to him.

“Mhm,” Jamie mumbled, “just tired.”

“We can go get some coffee if you want,” Kevin offered. “It'll be good for you to get some fresh air.”

Jamie nodded in agreement and put his plate in the sink. After they were both dressed with Jamie insisting on wearing one of Kevin’s sweaters.

They walked the short distance from Jamie’s house to the big donut in relative silence.

Jamie walked close to his boyfriend, their fingers laced tightly together.

As they entered The Big Donut Jamie moved to hold onto Kevin’s arm, anxiety setting in.

Kevin turned to him and pressed a kiss to his forehead. Jamie fidgeted as he filled his cup, grateful that Kevin was there with him.

“Everything okay babe?” Kevin asked, giving him a concerned look.

“Yeah” Jamie replied, though he didn’t feel okay. Kevin squeezed his hand and paid for their drinks.

Jamie relaxed as soon as they got back to their house, settling down on the couch. Kevin sat down next to him and pulled him close.

Jamie sighed and buried his face in Kevin’s neck, feeling like he could fall asleep at that very moment.

He let his eyes droop shut, relaxing into the warmth that was his boyfriend. He felt Kevin press a kiss to his cheek before he fell back asleep.

Sleep

"Hey Kev," said Jamie, turning around from his spot on the window seat, the side of his face illuminated by the glowing computer screen.

"What're you doing up? It's like 1 a.m.," mumbled Kevin, rubbing his eyes and yawning.

"I couldn't sleep; thought I'd get some work done." 

"Come back to bed, babe," Kevin whined. "It's hard to sleep without you."

"I know, but I'm in the middle of this." Jamie turned back to his laptop.

"What's so important anyway?" Asked Kevin, looking over his shoulder at the screen.

"I got a great idea for this play I'm writing," Jamie replied.

“Fine, I’m gonna make myself a coffee; you want one?” He asked, walking towards the kitchen. 

“Sure” 

Soon after, Kevin came back with two cups of coffee, handing one to his boyfriend and taking a sip of the other.

"Thanks,” smiled Jamie, setting down his computer and moving to the side while Kevin sat down next to him. Jamie reached for his laptop, but Kevin was faster, grabbing it and putting it on the floor.

"Hey!" Jamie exclaimed, crawling over and grabbing for it, though Kevin held it out of reach.

"Hmph," Jamie grumbled, sitting down between Kevin's legs and resting against his chest. The pair stayed like that for a while. Kevin closed his eyes and rested his head against Jamie's. Until Jamie eventually got his laptop back and started typing again.

"You know I know your typing, right?" Kevin said quietly, nuzzling into Jamie's hair.

"And you know I'm not going anywhere," said Jamie, leaning up to kiss him. Kevin murmured something before wrapping his arms around his boyfriend and closing his eyes. Jamie yawned and moved closer.

"The coffee must be wearing off," Kevin laughed.

"Yeah," Jamie yawned and closed his computer.

"Alright, come on," Kevin said, standing and pulling Jamie up with him.

"Wuh?" asked Jamie dazedly.

"We're going back to bed, babe," Kevin replied, kissing him on the forehead. 

"Can't walk; 'm too tired." Jamie mumbled, leaning against him.

"Then I guess I'll have to carry you," Kevin said, picking him up bridal style. Jamie, who normally would have protested, just moved closer.

"Please don't drop me," he mumbled.

"I wouldn't dream of it," Kevin replied, carrying him into the bedroom and laying him down on their bed, getting in next to him. Jamie pulled him closer and put the blanket across them.

"Night, Kev," he muttered.

"Night, Jay," Kevin replied, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "Love you."

"Love you too," Jamie mumbled, cuddling closer. The two of them fell asleep like that.

Jamie woke up the next morning, still lying curled up against Kevin’s body. He felt so warm and safe wrapped up tight in Kevin’s arms that he didn't even want to get out of bed.

He buried his face in Kevin’s chest and breathed deeply, savoring this moment. Kevin stirred beside him, pressing gentle kisses to his forehead.

"Good morning, baby," Kevin whispered. Jamie opened one eye and gave Kevin a sleepy smile.

"Morning. Thanks for letting me stay the night."

"Anything for you, sweetheart," Kevin replied. Jamie rolled over and leaned his forehead against Kevin’s.

His gaze drifted to Kevin’s lips, which were pulled up into a soft smile. He wanted to kiss them more than anything else in the world right now.

Before he could think too hard about what he was doing, Kevin had captured his lips in a tender kiss. Jamie melted under Kevin’s touch and wrapped his arms tightly around his boyfriend. 

Jamie broke the kiss a few moments later, resting his head on Kevin's shoulder and closing his eyes.

"Do you want something to eat?" Kevin asked, "I'm starving."

Jamie chuckled. "Yeah."

They made their way downstairs to the kitchen, grabbing a box of cereal from the cabinet. It took Jamie a minute to realize it was still raining outside. He couldn't hear it in the bedroom, but it was pouring outside. 

"It's raining cats and dogs out there," he groaned, leaning on Kevin. Kevin chuckled and ran his hand through Jamie's hair. "Do you still have to work today?"

"I hope not," Jamie grumbled, picking up his phone to see if Barb had texted him. He had one text from her saying that he didn't have to deliver mail today due to the storm.

Jamie let out a sigh of relief and slumped against Kevin.

Jamie hated delivering mail in the rain; by the time he got to Kevin's house, he was soaked through. He knocked on the door a few times before Kevin finally opened the door. 

"Took you long enough," Jamie grumbled, pushing the box into his arms.

"You wanna come inside?" Kevin chuckled. Jamie huffed but nodded and followed him inside. Kevin put the box down on the coffee table before turning to kiss Jamie and wrapping an arm around him. 

"Can I borrow some of your clothes?" Jamie asked 

"Yeah, sure," Kevin replied, kissing Jamie on the cheek before leading him upstairs and into his room.

Jamie rummaged around in the closet until he found a shirt and a pair of sweatpants that looked like they could fit him. 

He moved into Kevin's bathroom, quickly shedding his wet clothes and pulling on the dry ones.

Once he was dressed, he left the bathroom and laid down next to Kevin on the bed, who wrapped his arms around Jamie. Jamie let himself relax and enjoy the feel of his boyfriend's hands caressing up and down his back.

 His heart skipped when Kevin pressed his lips against the top of his head.

"I hate the rain," Jamie mumbled, nuzzling into Kevin's chest. 

"I know, baby," Kevin said, rubbing small circles with his thumb on Jamie's hip. Jamie closed his eyes, enjoying the warmth that surrounded him.

"Can I stay here tonight?" He asked softly.

"Of course you can, babe," Kevin replied, kissing Jamie again.

Jamie smiled and snuggled closer to his boyfriend. He slowly started drifting off to sleep, feeling safe and loved in his boyfriend’s arms.

Kevin wrapped both of his arms around Jamie and placed a quick kiss on his lips before picking up his bowl of cereal and moving to the couch, with Jamie following suit.

They sat together, eating breakfast quietly and enjoying each other's company.

Jamie tried to hide his unease as the storm picked up, curling into Kevin to ease his anxiety.

"Are you alright?" Kevin asked, gently touching Jamie's arm. 

"Yeah, I'm okay," Jamie insisted, trying to reassure himself as well. He'd be fine; it was just a little rain. Kevin gave him a suspicious look before turning back to the television.

Jamie relaxed as he watched TV until a clap of thunder shook the house, followed by another loud crack of lightning.

"You ok babe?" Kevin asked, looking at him worriedly. Jamie nodded, trying to play it cool. Kevin turned off the TV, giving him another hug.

"I'm scared of storms," Jamie confessed, burying his face in Kevin's neck.

"I noticed," Kevin replied, placing another kiss on Jamie's head. "That's alright."

"Promise?" Jamie asked, raising his head to look at Kevin. Kevin smiled at him.

"Of course"

Jamie rested his head on Kevin's shoulder as another loud clap of thunder sounded.

"Thanks," he whispered, squeezing Kevin tighter. Kevin smiled and kissed the top of his head.

"Anytime"
