JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass (15): Coup D'Etat? You decide in a solid Oliver Stone documentary.
#onemannsmovies #filmreview of "JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass". #JFKRevisited. Oliver Stone revisits JFK. Dense but muddled 3/5.
A One Mann’s Movies review of “JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass” (2021). I saw “JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass” advertised on streaming during my recent US holiday. In January 2017, when Donald Trump announced the Muslim Ban—a complete ban on travel to the United States from seven predominantly Muslim countries—protesters converged at airports around the country, shutting down travel.
Now he is banning travel from twice as many countries.
https://crimethinc.com/airportblockades
It's worth revisiting the events of 2017 to understand the scale of resistance. 5000 protesters shut down all international flights at SFO in San Francisco. 30,000 shut down a large section of the financial district of Manhattan while thousands protested at JFK. Protests like this took place at dozens of airports and business districts around the country.
In the wake of those protests—and not a moment before—a judge declared the Muslim Ban unconstitutional. When we take action together, we can change the course of history.
Don't let Trump and his cronies bury their oppressive acts in a news cycle filled with noise. Let's show up for each other in solidarity. Resist.

CLONE HIGH S3 NOTES

This poster art is such eye-candy! I wish the animation budget was slightly higher so it could look this hand-made throughout. Though as someone who works on Flash shows, the production value has been high overall but nothing can compare to the unnecessary lavishness of Rough Draft Korea animating the original series. I never watched the show for shipping and last season the romances were so arbitrary and unengaging that I have no reason to expect anything. Joan and Confucius? Yeah, why not. Who cares! (I might pay attention if they had an mlm couple that aren't background characters that appear for one second)
I'm still crossing my fingers we get some more zany Scudworth B-plots that aren't getting wasted or mooning over Candide. This little snippet of them grave-robbing looks promising!
Though I'm a little disappointed that they're revisiting the Looney Tunes hijinx with Skunky-Poo. We can hope there's some new angle to it. (PITCH: Candide becomes jealous of the 'new woman' in Scudworths life, not because she's winning his heart but because SHE wants to be the one causing him grievous bodily harm)
The new writers really like writing JFK as a big golden retriever so, having him be Abe's goofy comic relief buddy could work. That's right: JFK is the new Gandhi! (A very normal sentence)
The cast list also reveals some new foster parents and school faculty which I'm super excited for. Last season had such a myopic focus on the leads that it felt like they existed in a vacuum. I hope some of the supporting characters get to, y'know, speak this season.

Sighting a Salvador Dali clone almost makes up for Baby Patrick Swayze. Is the name the whole joke? Because it *kinda* rhymes? I refuse to screencap the creature but me and my friends would beat that thing with hammers, I can tell you that much. And we all agree this is the last season, right? I'm shocked such a niche cult show didn't get shelved indefinitely but Zaslav's reign of terror is characterized by writing shows off seemingly at random. Maybe the sheer clout of Lord and Miller got this reboot made and released? The crew seem to indicate the shows future depends on how many people watch the show on premiere day through an app only available in the United States. Yikes! 'Max' is doing the bare-minimum of legally required advertising but the audience still appears to be a handful of die-hard fans who complain about every creative decision the reboot has made so far.
Here's looking forward to February 1st!
#clone high#long post#I did my best to balance my skepticism with some positives but it wasn't easy!#and please remember to be respectful to the crew

does jfk like look more into his actual clone father perchance…sorry i am so jfkpilled but i think it would be interesting to see…ALSO i just wanted to say i absolutely adore ur designs so much

left text: my clone father? he's err uh pretty eh cool...
right text: am i good enough to be a kennedy?
this a reaaaalllyyyyyyy old idea that i need to revisit, so thank you anon for reminding me. basically, jfk stays pretty much the same for a big part of the au, but just like in the show he has a big crisis and recurs to religion to deal with it, that's when he starts questioning himself and if he's good enough of a clone. overall jfk doesn't really seem to look up to his clone parent, i mean he's already popular and stuff, but I do like the idea of him questioning himself, I think it adds something interesting to his character, so yeah he starts to want to be more like the original john f. kennedy in a way, like he wants to do something important too.
does he stay like that? who knows, definitely not me, i need to think more about it!
and thank you so much for the compliment it made me really happy <3333
#clone high#clone high: re do#ch:rd jfk#i really need to work on this fucking tag system damn#clone high jfk#anywho#i hope this is accepted by the jfk fans#a nation I rarely rarely rarely visit#or interact with

🔥 Other Batman animated show that aren't B:ATS or Caped Crusader (Batman 2004, Brave and the Bold, Beware the Batman, etc.)
The Batman was one of my childhood favorites, and I've never revisited it because unlike several of my other childhood favorites I have this sneaking suspicion that it won't hold up as well as I might like it to. Nothing bad to say about the character designs, however. Top notch all around. Brave And The Bold I suspect is the opposite- a love letter to certain cornier aspects of Batman's publication history that I bounced off badly as an Irony-poisoned tween but would likely appreciate much more now if I were to attempt to watch it in full. And I actually tried to watch Beware the Batman the other day and I swear to god, I bounced off it like the third bullet bounced off JFK's personal deflector field. The models were just weirdly plastic, the villains were weirdly implemented, the plots were weirdly paced and in the first two episodes there was just this atmospheric... lack of empathy towards the antagonists, as people, that I didn't notice was present in the shows I liked more than this one until it was missing? Difficult to describe vibe. Not my cup of tea.

Sarah oh my God that President Bob fic 🥴🥴🥴🥴
I have sooooooo many lil thoughts for President Bob and wifey after this, I hope you're ok with me sharing it but be forewarned the baby fever is outta control (lol).
-President Bob is super protective of his lovely wifey when they're expecting their first little one and when the press is around, he literally hurries her either into the White House or onto Air Force One, especially when she starts showing
-Bob and wifey insisted on putting the little one's room together themselves. Ain't no way they were gonna let some entitled high-end interior designer do the work for them. Bob's parents still had some hand-me-downs from Bob's nursery when he was a baby and promptly had them shipped to the White House
-The day that wifey went into labor, Natasha and Jake were escorting them to the car to take them to Walter Reed Hospital. When they got there, of course the press was trying to get snapshots. Jake literally pulled out a squirt bottle and started spraying them with water, going "BACK!!! BACK YOU FILTHY ANIMALS!"
-There was absolutely no question that Bob would be in that room with wifey. The VERY old school lady doctor that was the head of the team took one look at the intern who tried to object and she gave him the look of "talk and the President and I both kill you" (lol).
-August Robert Floyd was born on July 4th and was the tiniest lil munchkin you had ever seen. He was the first baby since JFK JR to be born to a sitting President, another brother, a sister and the youngest brother would follow in the next seven years
-Bob literally woke up in the middle of the night after he and wifey brought Auggie home to the White House and walked with him up and down the rose garden after he was starting to fuss. He did it with all the other ones in later years and it never failed to put them back to sleep
Mary I am literally tearing up!!! I definitely want to revisit our president and First Lady in the future and this has got me itching to start!

JFK Revisited
The episode begins with Adam gesturing animatedly in front of the camera while holding a replica Carcano rifle.
Adam: “Alright, MythBusters fans, today we’re diving into one of the most controversial myths in history: the magic bullet theory! Did a single gunman really gank JFK? Or was there a second shooter on the grassy knoll? To find out, we’ve going to Dealey Plaza in Dallas—to test it for ourselves!”
Jamie stands stoically in the background, his arms crossed, his hat shading his expression.
Jamie: “This isn’t about conspiracies. It’s about physics. That’s all.”
The camera pans up to show Jamie climbing the stairs to the Texas School Book Depository. He takes position at the window, rifle ready. Adam, meanwhile, stands below on the sidewalk, looking at passing traffic with a mischievous grin.
Adam yells up to the window, “Alright, Jamie, here comes our first victim. Try this blue Honda!”
Jamie adjusts the scope and takes aim. A shot rings out, striking the car’s hood with a loud clang. The Honda swerves slightly and accelerates away.
Adam: “That was beautiful. Let’s go again!”
A silver minivan appears, and Adam waves enthusiastically.
Adam: “Ooh, ooh, Jamie! The van! Let’s see if you can hit that side panel!”
Jamie fires again, this time denting the side of the van. The driver screams and honks angrily but doesn’t stop. Adam laughs and claps his hands like a delighted child.
Adam: “Direct hit! You’re getting the hang of this!”
The camera cuts to Jamie, who reloads with a quiet intensity. The next car, a sleek red sedan, approaches. Adam is practically vibrating with excitement.
Adam: “Jamie! This one! Let’s go for the windshield!”
Jamie adjusts his aim and fires. The bullet smashes through the windshield, and the sedan veers off the road, crashing into a lamppost. The driver steps out, clearly shaken but unharmed. Adam grins nervously and waves.
Adam: “Uh, sorry! MythBusters! Science in progress!”
Jamie is silent, his focus unbroken. Suddenly, a white pickup truck enters the frame. Adam points enthusiastically.
Adam: “This one! This one! Let’s see if you can graze the side mirror!”
Jamie exhales slowly, takes aim, and pulls the trigger. But this time, something goes horribly wrong. The bullet doesn’t strike the truck—it hits a child crossing the street. The boy crumples instantly, blood pooling beneath him. There’s a beat of stunned silence. Then chaos erupts.
Adam: “Oh my god. Oh my god. Jamie, what the hell did you do?!”
Jamie lowers the rifle and stares down at the scene, his face unreadable.
Jamie: “He walked into the line of fire. That’s not on me.”
Adam: “Not on you?! Jamie, someone’s dead! What are we supposed to—what are we—”
The sound of approaching sirens cuts through Adam’s panic. Jamie steps away from the window, calmly unslinging the rifle.
Jamie: “We leave. Now.”
Adam: “Leave?! Jamie, we just killed a guy!”
Jamie: “Correction. I killed a guy. And you’re coming with me.”
The camera shakes as the crew scrambles to pack up their equipment. Adam looks directly at the lens, wide-eyed and trembling.
Adam: “Cut the feed. Cut the—”
The screen cuts to black. The episode never aired, the footage was recovered from an SD card found by a cleaner at M5 Industries and leaked online.

A bend in space-time S2 || a TUA fanfiction

The time vortex carried us away from the apocalyptic blazes. Backwards. And now we're scattered, back to the early '60s, wandering in search of a new way. Soon, against all odds, the end of the world will be upon us once again…
In this fic, I use an OC appearing almost only in deleted scenes - Rin - to revisit and analyze The Umbrella Academy: to clarify certain points and try to fill in the plot-holes. This fic is not a self-insert nor a OC-centric fic : Rin exists to flesh out the canon characters, and the fic is mostly focused on Klaus Hargreeves.
You can find the table of contents for season 1 here.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
🎧 Music is a major part of The Umbrella Academy, and so it is in this fic. You can find the full playlist of this season here : AO3 - Wattpad - Spotify.
Chapter 1: Are you lonesome tonight? AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
With a crash, Rin is released by the time vortex. After escaping the 2019 Apocalypse, she soon realizes she's alone… in Dallas… in 1961.

Chapter 2: Hello, Goodbye AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Rin has taken refuge in an abandoned house and is looking for something to eat. Thanks to Mark, a homeless man, she discovers… that the house she's been squatting in is haunted.

Chapter 3: A jumble of hair, leathers and linen AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Thanks to the ghost of old gardener Wayne Wilson, Rin has been able to reach Klaus, who's coming to pick her up. And he seems… to have changed a lot.

Chapter 4: Shiny, happy people AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Klaus takes Rin to the 'Destiny's Children' mansion, where he has established a proto-hippie community. Rin discovers that they are about to set off on a road-trip to Mexico and South America.

Chapter 5: On the Road AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Aboard the painted bus that Klaus calls Priscilla, the 'Destiny's Children' travel through Baja California. Rin begins to realize just how much these journeys will change her.

Chapter 6: Snippets of Destiny AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
At the end of 1961, the 'Destiny's Children' make a stopover in Reykjavik, Iceland, and celebrate the passing of the New Year with an unusual ceremony.

Chapter 7: Marigolds on the Ganges AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
In 1962, Klaus takes the 'Destiny's Children' to India, on a journey of great importance to him, between meditation and yoga. Their trip takes them to Varanasi, where the spirits of the dead peacefully depart.

Chapter 8: Come hell or high water AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Rin did not follow Klaus and the Destiny's Children to San Francisco. Back on Dallas' often harsh streets, she's now looking for a job… against the obstacles of 1963 society.

Chapter 9: Childhood's end AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Rin started working for Merelec, a small electronics repair business on Glen Oaks street. On the back balcony, she meets David, the nephew of the owner of the hardware store next door.

Chapter 10: Snippets of Memory AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
At the end of summer, David returns from a military camp, full of ideals that worry Rin a lot. Suddenly, a phone call brings sad news, prompting a discussion with Klaus that turns everything around.

Chapter 11: The machinery of the universe AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Exhausted by a rush of work and TV repairs due to JFK's forthcoming visit to Dallas, Rin receives Five's unexpected visit to the store.

Chapter 13: Lemonade by the pool AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Rin spent the night at Kitty's mansion, where Klaus is resting in a pool improvised in the ornamental basins. Suddenly, she hears a woman's voice she recognizes at once: Allison's.

Chapter 14: Jailhouse Rock AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Based on a plan carefully masterminded by a very enthusiastic Ben, he, Klaus and Rin proceed to… the spectacular liberation of Raymond Chestnut.

Chapter 15: The Scorpion and the Frog AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
In the evening, following Klaus's visit to Dave at the hardware store, Allison calls Rin to come and give him advice.

Chapter 22: At the threshold of nirvana AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Just as she's about to leave to do some gardening, Rin runs into Klaus, who is coming down from the ' Destiny's Children' Mansion, and who turns out to actually be… Ben.

Chapter 23: Azure dust into the Void AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Rin goes to old ghost Wayne Wilson's house to complete her part of the deal that allowed her to find Klaus back in '61.

Chapter 24: Dedicated against all odds AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Returning to the Destiny Children's Mansion, Rin meets Luther. She realizes how lonely he is, and has an important conversion with him.

Chapter 25: Ethereal whirlwinds AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Rin was called urgently by Klaus to Allison's house to help her get rid of a 'bulky waste'. But Diego returns to announce Viktor's imminent involvement… in the threat of a new apocalypse.

Chapter 26: A conflict of interest AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
Viktor's deflagration has been devastating, and Rin blacked out. She wakes up in a place outside space-time, where she remembers having been before… once.

Chapter 27: Children ride in the back AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
In Eliott's little room, Klaus is slumped on the bed. He's lost Ben, he's lost Rin. But Rin's ghost… seems to have been successfully summoned.

When I was in 3rd grade I was in this special “gifted” history class that they pulled you out for like resource room, but for kids who weren’t being challenged by the history curriculum. It was an experimental program it only lasted one year but the teacher was this WWII veteran who was the scariest person I’d ever met outside of church he was very stern and always yelled at my for holding my pencil wrong, and then I’d start crying, and then he’d yell at me for crying. But I remember we learned about the JFK assassination in his class and he SHOWED US THE ZAPRUDER TAPE FRAME BY FRAME and in long detail he explained to us (while rewinding and revisiting the headshot frames) how the way his head explodes makes it impossible for the bullet to have come from where Oswald was and this was like… 4-6 months after 9/11 where we all watched thousands of people die on live tv so we were kind of numb to the imagery but it was a full hour of going over and over the headshot while the teacher ranted about conspiracy and I remember I was like 8 or 9 and I was just like “wow I have seen a lot of people die for real is this what growing up is like? You just see people die all the time? Is this why adults watch the news” and like in retrospect what the hell did he think showing us an hour of headshot footage was an appropriate way to spend an hour with a group of recently traumatized 3rd graders but thinking of all the times I was shown gore as a kid especially war gore or Christian martyr gore maybe that’s why I kind of don’t see it as a big deal?

Tonight is the 43rd anniversary of the murder of John Lennon.
Of course it will always be sad to think about and revisit, but I wanted to share these links of coverage from that night because it’s pretty fascinating stuff and makes you think about media’s role in our lives, among the obvious more darker things.
Here is a report about the moment that the world found out what had happened…and that only happened the way it did because of a twist of fate of an ABC employee that happened to be in that hospital at the time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6zcRPp8zVg
Here is a late night TV report
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/abcs-1980-broadcast-john-lennons-death/story?id=35653276
Here is a scan of NYC radio that night…this is really fascinating stuff, serving as a reminder that there was no cable tv news or any other form of mass media reaching people about this world-shattering story for several hours.
https://youtu.be/pC-COpl9hJA?si=X8Rd2kdxVOz24gHi
By the time the next night’s evening news came on, the shock had sunken in, and here is how Walter Cronkite, who was long considered “The Most Trusted Man in America” (and who had famously broke the news of JFK’s assassination in 1963) reported the story.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yeiu7A41Tlw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bnB0oBtggY
One aspect of the story that people couldn’t grasp back then, and to me serves as a preview of our modern TMZ culture was the reaction to Paul McCartney’s reaction.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZh_BqJqKns
I would hope that most people can understand how shock and the stages of grief works…..as well as having cameras in your face all the time.
