Jimmy Ponder - Mean Streets - No Bridges (Muse Records ‎– MR 5324, 1987) Just bought this yesterday, so haven't heard much, but sounds like some funky jazz recorded with Rudy Van Gelder in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. And look at that Gibson Super 400...my word! . . . . . #music #record #records #recordcollection #recordcollector #vfrecordcollections #recordcollecting #vinyl #vinyljunkie #vinylrecords #vinylaficionado #vinylcollection #vinylcollectionpost #vinylcollector #vinylcommunity #albumcover #albumcoverart #instavinyl #cratedigger #hifi #nowspinning #followme #jazz #jimmyponder #rudyvangelder #gibson #super400 #guitar #internationaljazzday

Jimmy Ponder – White Room
A sweet little groover from guitarist Jimmy Ponder – a surprisingly satisfying record that features Ponder soloing out over some tight funky backings that almost sound like the best of the larger group sessions on Kudu or Groove Merchant. Jimmy’s playing a sweet hollow body that gives him a tone that’s a bit like O’Donnel Levy — warm and chromatic, with single notes picked out in a tight progression that has a lot more jazz than you’d expect for the session at the time. One cut does have some vocals from Jimmy, but the rest is instrumental (Dusty Groove).

Jimmy Ponder – Live at the Other End
“Live at the Other End by Jimmy Ponder is not only engaging for its entire 55 minutes’ running time, it’s downright dazzling, and not only in technical acumen – which it certainly is – but in its pure singing musicality. … And is one of the finest solo jazz guitar records in the canon, period,” – Thom Jurek/AllMusic. Jimmy Ponder – guitar

Jimmy Ponder – Illusions
A sweet smooth album of funky jazz from guitarist Jimmy Ponder – with a style that’s right out of the Bob James-arranged albums for Kudu! Jimmy’s guitar is nice and lean, laidback over some tripped out, easily funky arrangements, with strings conducted by Johnny Pate on a few numbers, and keyboards by Ronnie Foster on a few others”. Dusty Groove, Inc.
