PROJECT I: FONT VOICES

The icon so alive if you cut it it will bleed.

You are creating a type-based icon using two proper nouns you've chosen earlier from a set of subjects or objects that you find inspiring. This icon will function as your avatar throughout the course and will become a hyperlink on a class site to an online depository of your work.

We will begin this project by discussing sound devices of letters and words, especially as used in poetry writing.

GOALS

● Introductions among the students ● Establishing a framework for a “course work book” in the form of online site, or a blog, where students will be required to archive their research and progress sketches throughout the semester.

PROJECT II: FOUND ALPHABET SET

The rhythms of letters are not confirmed to printed words. For the typographic eye, all the world is a readable place. – Paul Elliman

Thinking about an alphabet as a family or a set, for this project we will become explorers of “language” that surrounds us in the world. We will arrange signs and letters we find into complete sets, and as a final work we will create a publication documenting our findings.

Time-based type animation, manual or digital implementation of animation, but has to be recorded as video loop or a short movie clip.
