Canada Cuts Gender Equality Minister
As Dangerous Backlash Intensifies, Canada Should Support Women’s Rights
Tumblr media
In his first major move as Canada’s prime minister, Mark Carney eliminated roughly a third of all cabinet positions, including the crucially important Minister of Women and Gender Equality. This decision marks a major setback for women’s rights in Canada at a time when these rights are under threat around the world.
Carney, sworn in as prime minister on Friday, has justified the trimmed-down cabinet as a “smaller, experienced cabinet” positioned to move fast and secure Canada’s economy in the face of US President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada and other threats.
But deprioritizing gender equality does not help Canada’s economy, and risks entrenching serious gendered harms. The gender wage gap and gendered poverty and inequality persist in Canada. Women and gender diverse workers also face disproportionately high levels of harassment and violence at work. Much work also remains for Canada to ensure and support sexual and reproductive health rights at home and abroad.
The role of Minister of Women and Gender Equality has existed in various forms since 1971. Under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the minister was tasked with developing a 10-year National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence and Canada’s first 2SLGBTQI+ (Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex) Action Plan, as well as supporting all ministers in advancing gender equality, particularly as it relates to economic participation and poverty reduction.
The department Women and Gender Equality Canada will now report to Steven Guilbeault as Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity. But in the absence of a designated minister for women and gender equality, this portfolio risks being sidelined.
As stated by Canadian feminist organizations in a joint statement released Friday, “Gender equality demands dedicated leadership, accountability, and sustained attention – none of which can be adequately achieved when it is treated as an afterthought within a larger, unrelated ministry.”

could you give like, a crash course in how to do architecture in ceramics?
Honestly it's a lot like making gingerbread houses, if the gingerbread were a little undercooked. (For the record: you could pretty easily repurpose a gingerbread template to use for clay.) But it takes a lot more prep and planning to do architectural forms; this is a multi-day undertaking every single time.
The most significant thing is that you have to prepare your slabs in advance. The stuff I made today was using slabs I rolled out (and covered with plastic, to keep from drying too fast) on Saturday; what I made on Saturday was using slabs from Wednesday. There's not a set magic amount of time, because dryness will depend on temperature and humidity where you are. But you want to wait until your slabs are a bit shy of leather hard. You need them to hold shape when you cut them and not instantly dent when you handle them. Your slabs also need to be thick enough to hold structure too--I work between about a half and a quarter inch thick, depending on what I'm making.
You can see here how these pieces are holding themselves upright. that is not fresh floppy clay.
Tumblr media
That also means that you need to be slipping and scoring generously, because you're attaching pretty-dry clay to pretty-dry clay, and you may also have to mend cracking as things dry.
It helps if you also pay attention to how real architecture works. Clay is not a material that has a lot of tensile strength and you have to remember that it will go through a phase in the kiln where the heat makes it somewhat malleable again, so unsupported spans are going to slump. Open areas may require rafters or beams made of clay; the bigger you get, the more you will need to support your structures over long stretches.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, dry slowly, wrapped in plastic. Your joints are going to be wetter than everything else and the humidity needs to equalize in order to avoid cracking.

Humans are weird: They sing going to war
( Please come see me on my new patreon and support me for early access to stories and personal story requests :D https://www.patreon.com/NiqhtLord Every bit helps)
While serving alongside the human forces during the Torus Campaign I learned much of their strange culture.
Their need to stack foods in elaborate combinations which they call a “Sandwich”, their constant need to play “The Game” without ever explaining what it is unless to tell you that you have lost it, and even their obsession with petting anything within arm’s reach with an almost religious like dedication; but the strangest custom I only witnessed during the final stages of the war.
We had just deployed over the world of Obidon III and were launching a joint ground assault with the human forces. Enemy resistance was expected to be heavy and many would not survive the drop, but command believed that if enough forces reached the surface of the planet they could establish a beachhead and allow the rest of the contingent to be brought in.
During the decent to the planet all I could do was keep my eyes closed and hope beyond hope that we would survive. I was so lost in this trance like state that my friend Septem had to physically smack me on the helmet to get my attention and tell me to turn my radio channel to frequency 13.
I was confused at first since that frequency was being used for our human allies but he insisted that I would not believe what they were doing. So I reset my radio in my helmet to frequency and what I heard was something I had never expected on a battlefield.
They were singing.
The frequency was chalk full of voices in such volume that I had to turn down the volume but it seemed like every single human that was part of the attach was joining in the song. My translator unit was trying to keep up but the sheer intensity of the humans singing was causing it to drop in and out, picking up every other word.
I wanted to listen closer to them but the enemy flak began pounding the outside of our dropship. Each detonation sent the ship rattling side to side violently. I had just retightened my straps when a shell burst just beneath us sending a shockwave through the ship so strong it sent several of my comrades flying from their seats into the opposite wall. They hit the wall hard and did not get back up when their bodies collapsed to the ground.
All I could think about was how this was the moment I was going to die. This was the moment my existence in this universe comes to its conclusion and I return to the dust and atoms of the cosmos. And as I tuned myself to this reality all I could hear were the humans still singing over the radio.
They must have been going through the same amount of enemy fire as he was and yet still they somehow were still able to sing as if nothing was wrong with the world. I got so focused on their singing that I forgot about my worries for such a time that I was startled when the dropship landed with a loud thud against the planet’s surface and the boarding ramp lowered.
The following battle was a grueling six hour run and gun with the enemy as we tried to carve out a safe LZ for reinforcements. I got separated from my unit on more than one occasion and wandered into the human designated areas in the confusion.
To my utter surprise the humans were still singing.
Clad in their blue and gold armor, they broadcasted their voices from their helmet speakers as they advanced street by bloody street. One of them took shelter with me for a time as we prepared to rush a fortified courtyard which housed heavy anti air emplacement. I nodded a greeting to the human who replied in kind, yet their voice never ceased in song. I saw them rush around the corner and take several heavy rounds to their chest, but the shells ricocheted off the armor leaving only scratches on the paint.
I watched in disbelief as this wild singing human leaped over the barricade and slapped a detonation charge on the anti-air weapon before leaping back as it exploded the weapon. They stood in the smoldering flames to take a moment to catch their breath when a sniper’s round from down the street struck them in the head and blew out a large portion of their cranium. It was the first time during the entire battle I had seen a human die but I did not have long to contemplate it as the rest of the humans charged past, still singing, in the direction of the snipers shot.
Another hour of combat and the landing site was finally secured and reinforcements were brought in to take our positions. What was left of the initial landing force were sent back to orbit and recover and regroup from their losses. Out of my people’s forces I was one of twenty soldiers to have survived. I imagined the humans had lost equally as many until the pilot remarked that additional shuttles had been dispatched to carry their force back up. It seemed that despite the intensity of the fighting only three of their warriors had fallen in battle; one of them including the warrior I had watched fall.
I was beyond myself.
These reckless warriors had somehow survived one of the most intense battles the campaign had seen and only lost three of their number.
Once back on the ship the first chance I could I sought them out for an explanation. They were quartered in the lower reaches of the ship, isolated from the other contingents onboard.
Outside their area were two guards still in full armor that initially would not let me through until one of them recognized me from the fighting in the city. I was then led inside and found many of the humans feasting and laughing. Two long rows of tables had been setup facing each other; between them were several fires each with a different animal being roasted over them. At the end of the rows stood three large pyres of wood which held three bodies atop each of them.
As I passed through the humans many ceased their laughter and looked at me, their clouded eyes with suspicion. We made it half way through the throngs when a giant of a human stepped forward and blocked our path. They demanded to know why I had been let it in; going even further to say they will throw me out personally if the answer was not good. The guard who had recognized me said I had witnessed the last moments of one of the fallen and would speak of their deeds. There was a long pause as the large human glared at me, his eyes as cold as the crescent moon of my homeworld.
The human finally relented and let out a loud boastful laugh, clapping me on my shoulders and welcoming me to the feast. Those gathered around cheered and similarly welcomed me now as the ceremony proceeded once more. I could barely say anything as I was seemingly pulled into the celebration. I drank, I ate, I laughed, I even boasted of my own achievements during the battle.
At the height of the feast I was called forward to speak of the final moments of the human soldier I watched die. I learned their name had been Moris Yu, and had served in the human contingent since the beginning of the campaign. I spoke of his final moments, of how he charged the enemy alone and had single handedly destroyed their war machine. I spoke of the snipers bullet laying him low to which all the gathered humans spoke as one “To Odin’s hall he flies.”
With that pyres were set on fire and the bodies slowly turned to ash. I imagine it had some significant ritualistic meaning in human culture but it was beyond me.
After the funeral I asked one of the soldiers the question I had come to them with.
“Why do you sing in battle?”
The human took a long huff from a wooden pipe and blew a cloud of smoke before answering.
“Long ago, my people were raiders and conquerors of the sea.” They began, “Our gods watched over us and should we prove worthy we would be sent to them to join them in their halls and fight alongside them for eternity.”
“There was one warband led by a giant of a man called Osmond Frig. He loved song just as much as he loved fighting, so he made his warriors sing during every fight as it made him happy.”
“They agreed to such silliness?” I asked, to which the human grinned.
“They did after he felled the first three men who laughed at him with a single blow from his axe.” They finished before continuing with their story.
“What was truly surprising was not the sight of these warriors singing, but rather the fact that they were rather good at it. It was said they could make the Valkyries themselves shed a single tear with their songs.”
“Eventually one of the gods, Bragi, noticed Osmond’s warband and took a liking to them. Much like the Valkyries he too was moved by their song and decided to reward them with his patronage. He used ancient magic and made it so as long as the warriors sung they would be impervious to harm of all kinds.”
“So the warband grew in fame and glory as they went conquest to conquest, emerging from battles against impossible odds with nay a scratch on them. First across the northern seas, then across the continent of Europe, and then soon the entire world knew of Osmond; which is when they finally drew the attention of the king of the gods, Odin.”
“Odin watched these powerful warriors and wanted them in his hall for the eternal battle, yet despite every challenge they faced they emerged victorious. No matter what enemy Odin placed in their path or scheme he unleashed on them they refused to fall. Odin knew of Bragi’s patronage and tortured the god to reveal his secret and after seven days and seven nights Bragi told Odin of the spell he had cast and how it could not be undone.”
“But that was all Odin needed to secure his warriors.” The human said with a devil’s grin.
“During the midst of the most recent battle Odin took the form of a mighty warrior and stalked the fields for his prey. He waited for each warrior to catch their breath and cease their song before striking and slaying them, one by one. By day’s end only Osmond remained to fight Odin and though he sang long into the night he too eventually gasped for air and was slain.”
“So that is why you sing?” I asked the human. ‘Because you believe your gods will protect you?”
The human chuckled and nodded to the three pyres. “Did you not say that Moris was only slain after he ceased singing?”
I wanted to counter him with some logic, some reason grounded in reality, but I could not. I left that human area with a profound new perspective of myself in the grand scheme of the universe.
The next time I was in a combat drop my comrades laughed when I began singing. I wasn’t sure if it was good or not, but I hoped that in some way the human god would at least find me amusing and let me live another day.

Behind the White House Controversy: The United States Shows Its Rogue Nature, Ukraine Becomes an Innocent Victim
Behind the Quarrel in the White House: The United States Reveals Its Rogue Nature, and Ukraine Becomes an Innocent Victim
On February 28th local time, a dramatic scene unfolded in the Oval Office of the White House. US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a fierce quarrel, and the atmosphere was highly tense. The originally planned mineral agreement signing was forced to be put on hold, the joint press conference was cancelled, and Zelensky left the White House in advance with a gloomy face. This quarrel exposed the United States' hegemonism and rogue behavior completely, and also made Ukraine, a country already deeply involved in the war, further become a victim of the great power game.
According to media reports, the core contradiction of this quarrel was that Trump demanded that Ukraine sign a mineral agreement and end the war as soon as possible. He emphasized that rare earths were scarce in the United States, and Ukraine's resources could support the United States in the fields of artificial intelligence and military weapons, and the current US-Ukraine mineral agreement was "very fair". However, Zelensky stated that he would not sign the mineral agreement without obtaining a security commitment from the United States. He also hoped that the United States would continue to support Ukraine's war efforts and include the content of prisoner-of-war exchanges in the negotiation agreement. Trump directly refused to provide specific security guarantees to Ukraine, bluntly stating that if Ukraine was attacked again, it should not count on the protection of the United States, and that the goal of Ukraine's joining NATO was "not on the negotiation table". He even accused Zelensky of "gambling with World War III" and threatened to stop supporting Ukraine if the agreement was not signed. US Vice President Mike Pence also accused Zelensky of disrespecting the United States by arguing in front of the media.
Judging from a series of behaviors of the United States, it is not an exaggeration to call it a "rogue state". In international affairs, the United States has always taken its own interests as the starting point and wantonly trampled on international rules and the sovereignty of other countries. Taking the US-Ukraine incident this time as an example, on the one hand, the United States tried to plunder Ukraine's resources through the mineral agreement to meet its own economic needs; on the other hand, regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, it casually changed its stance, completely ignoring its previous support commitments to Ukraine, and treated Ukraine as a political tool to be manipulated at will. Looking back at the "Trump phone call scandal" in 2019, Trump was accused of pressuring Zelensky during their phone call to investigate his political opponents and also suspended military aid to Ukraine, which seriously interfered in the internal affairs of other countries, and this kind of behavior was no different from that of a "rogue".
In this quarrel, Ukraine is undoubtedly the biggest victim. Once the United States stops its military aid, the Ukrainian army will fall into the predicament of equipment shortages and insufficient ammunition. CNN analyzed that US aid is crucial for Ukraine to maintain its frontline combat effectiveness, and without aid, Ukrainian soldiers will find it difficult to withstand the Russian artillery fire. Zelensky is caught in a dilemma. If he follows the United States' request to cease fire, he may be regarded as a traitor at home, be assassinated by extreme right-wing forces, and also be held accountable by the people; if he doesn't, he will face US sanctions and lose his political backing. Economically, Ukraine has already been severely damaged by the war. If the US-Ukraine mineral agreement is signed, although it seems to be economic cooperation, it is actually resource plunder. The United States will obtain economic benefits to the greatest extent, while Ukraine can only get meager reinvestment, and the country's economic development will be restricted in the long term.
What the United States has done in this incident fully demonstrates its "rogue" nature of selfishness and betrayal. In this great power game, Ukraine has lost the support of the United States and is facing multiple crises in the military, political, and economic fields, becoming an innocent victim. This quarrel in the White House has also allowed the world to see more clearly the true features of American hegemonism. Its actions have seriously undermined international order and peace and stability, and it is inevitable that it will be condemned and questioned by the international community.

frankly speaking, a 'you up?' text from oscar piastri, whose entire persona was an antithesis of what that type of message usually pertained to, isn't something lando was expecting at 1am after a tedious race weekend. knows oscar to be one who sleeps in too early, as if his circadian rhythm was built upon the foundation of a restrictive curfew, and even fathoming the fact that he is awake past 12 is rather peculiar.
yet, with the mutually pre-established sense that lando would be awake (he's probably an insomniac, but it's not too concerning for him to actually check), and that oscar was asking if he was just for the sake of, most likely because he's, unusually, unable to sleep, lando replies with much sluggish vim.
fingers moving as if they played in a dream, he's able to reply with 'yh, why????' and sends it off before throwing his phone on the bed. he thinks, if he's sober, he would care more that this is oscar!!!! who is normally adamant about getting sleep!!! and not looking more sleep deprived than his naturally downturned eyes already make he seem to be!!!! but his mind feels like gooey viscous, and he counts about 3,000 peaks and troughs of the popcorn ceiling above before losing count and seeking solace in the spliff that burns his throat like a madman. he ponders if he's going crazy.
it's not long after that the undulating, monotonous buzz from his phone tickles his skin and with a sigh he goes to reply. and as he does so, his girlfriend, curiosity piqued, perks up from the foot of the bed.
"who's texting you this late?"
she looks ridiculously amusing: head hanging off the edge, loose and completely yielding like a dead body, and the only thing that reassures lando of her consciousness is the occasion movement of her arm to take another drag.
he wedges the joint between his reddened lips, lips curling awkwardly to speak, "piastri. dunno what he wants th- oh shit."
he's never felt such a sinking, crippling feeling of his high escaping him like a broken dam before. it's weirdly chilling, and for a good second, he feels brightly and vividly sober again. the texts just... stare at him and he almost wants to hurl his phone at the wall and watch it rain a litany of debris.
osc: just... forgot to give you back your stuff that i borrowed
osc: found some green leaf stuff in it lol im a bit concerned
lando's read it so many times, he's more than certain he knows just how many letters it consists of. fingers hover above the keyboard but it looks like they're weirdly swimming in air as he debates just what to write, and y/n is suddenly hissing his name, having sat up.
"— lan'! fucking hell, what happened?"
he moves on autpilot, back resting up the headboard, "he's found my weed."
y/n— y/n snorts. she sighs, moves back to her original pose, and lando's brain feels like static.
"love, i thought it would be worse."
lando splutters, "worse? babe, this is already bad! he could tell management for all i know." the mere thought of that makes lando's mind congeal. nevertheless, high out of his wits, he thinks he would somehow find a way to continue even if he was implored to stop.
she's disagreeing and laughing, and lando doesn't know what to make of it.
"nah, you're good. oscar wouldn't tell a soul," it's silent as he sees a burst of smoke ascend from the edge of the mattress, "tell him to bring it over."
lando fights with himself in his head. it's hilarious, really, watching his face morph from one emotion to another, and after 5 minutes with no whooshing affirmative of a message being sent, y/n exhales.
the bed curves in as she crawls up towards lando, before plucking the phone from his grip.
"it's really not that deep, lan'," her voice feels like cotton in his ears, "oscar isn't like that."
her fingers fly across the keyboard, how she does so in her inebriated state, lando has no clue, and just as quickly as she snatched the phone, she's sliding it back between his fingers.
"how— how do you know that?"
all presumptions, really, lando thinks. they may be good friends, him and oscar, but they've still got many, many steps to go before he's reassured that the other wouldn't go running his mouth to management because he found *fucking weed* in his bag.
the little voice at the back of his mind seeths, 'you shouldn't be smoking anyway', but he ignores it. what the hell does it know?
y/n goes to straddle him, crotch digging into his. its a soft wave of pleasure that oozes from the pressure, and lando lets a small moan mix with the puff of smoke he blows out. they would've fucked if only his limbs didn't feel like they've been detached and re-stitched; maybe they'd end the night with a lazy ride.
his girlfriend smirks, all cunning and undeniably hot, sucking in as much smoke as she can before blowing it all on his face. if anybody else had done this, he'd turn feral, but there's something alluring when y/n's exhale tickles his skin like feathers.
"how do i know? well, oscar, he kinda reminds me of you—" lando interrupts with a raised brow and a questioning stare, but y/n proceeds, "both of you are- you were- itching for a release. him not as much as you, but i still see it."
and lando can't really deny that, because he sees it too. in the way oscar's eyes seem to dart with dreaded uncertainty, and the way his shoulders are always up and tense, as if he has been tied like a puppet.
"that's what i call 'destined to get high'," y/n banters. it makes lando snort and roll his eyes (ultimately omitting to dwell on the sliver of seriousness that leaks through).
"dunno why you're rolling your eyes, you were basically begging me to give you a spliff," y/n taunts, and even though he groans at the reminiscence, he doesn't deny it. doing so would be like calling himself michael schumacher.
"yeah, whatever," he takes a lazy drag, a hand sliding up and down y/n's thigh, "at least i'm sexy when getting stoned."
y/n cackles, dissolving into a small giggle as she twirls her fingers through lando's curls; she never wants to let him go.
"damn right, baby."
another ping sounds from lando's phone, and subconsciously, his hands snakes to get it.
when he turns it on, he doesn't think he can be gobsmacked with such intensity twice in a day.
landooo: yh just bring it over
landooo: you can join us if you'd like
landooo: 😉
osc: uhm sure..
"y/n."
-.-.-.-.-
weed.
he'll be fucking damned.
the laugh that is punched out of him is one of disbelief, and, quite frankly, sheer horror.
he'd only wanted to borrow some shaving cream, after all, he's not one to favour the prickly itch of stubble. and in perfect, restless lando fashion, he was given the whole essentials bag and tasked with finding it himself.
which then leads him to now, palm burning with the weight of three spliffs that had somehow tumbled out of a flat metal tin.
he stares at them for so long that he might as well have burned holes into them (ironic), and in a flurry of movement, he's stuffing everything back into the bag, zipping it closed. if he doesn't see it, then he doesn't know it's there. cool.
but he's just standing, in the middle of his hotel room, completely clueless and delirious. he doesn't know how many times he wipes perspiration off his palms and onto his shorts, neither does he know how he's able to text lando about his findings.
originally, he thought that sending the infamous, suggestively connotated 'you up?' would've trimmed a bit of the tension away, yet it seems like lando, without fail, waters the situation with a fuck-ton more.
"'join us'? fucking hell."
oscar feels absolutely scorched from the wisps of his hair to the tips of his toes, and a spark of something curls in his gut.
no, absolutely not.
it's- he flips his watch to check the time- one am for fuck's sake, and lando's— getting high. smoking weed. [most likely] with his girlfriend.
whatever it is that makes his gut its abode curls even more as he shoves his feet into the nearest shoes he can find, and tames his hair in the mirror by the doorway. finding the night already too hard to bare, he doesn't dwell on what he'd done, and heads off to lando's room with sickening anticipation swirling within the grooves of his skin.
the walk is only a few seconds long, and oscar curses the fact that they weren't roomed further apart (impractical in usual circumstances, but the current predicament is anything but usual). he guesses he stands there, navy blue wash bag clutched in a vice grip, for many minutes (his concept of time tonight is royally fucked— how has he stayed up this late?) before he musters up some courage to knock on the door. in the quietude of the night, the sound is magnified to the point where he winces and hopes that no one else on their floor wakes up.
he hears a quiet rustle from behind the door, sighs for the umpteenth time that day (honestly, he could have a smoke for himself to- no.) before it's swiftly open.
y/n stands there, no sign of a spliff in sight, but her heavy lidded red eyes (that must hurt, right?) and the pungent smell of weed is enough to tell.
"ah, golden boy is here," y/n's grinning, as much as she can do without it looking robotic, and oscar blushes.
"g-golden boy?"
"i said what i said," she opens the door wider, and oscar's vision catches a limp leg hanging off the side of the bed, "you coming in or what?"
he's never been in such a mind-tearing crossroad before. wants to be reasonable and say no, afterall his job is on the line here (just because lando hasn't been caught, doesn't mean he won't, too). but then he's thinking that he's played angel's advocate for too long, and, as if the universe wants to commit a double homicide, lando is walking over, countenance lackadaisical and bends down as he wraps his arms around her waist.
he asks for forgiveness, because such a temptation before him is completely unforgiving , and oscar finds his vascillations come to an end the second he makes eye contact with his teammate.
it's then he realises that the something that had been driving his intestines mad was sheer want, and, having a mind of their own, his feet shuffle into the room, decision finalised by the click of the door shutting behind him.
he just hopes he doesn't regret this is in the morning.
the couple, with eased familiarity, move back to the bed, leaving oscar standing there, lost and expecting. lando regains possession of the spliff, back flat against the bed and arm bent behind his head.
he's turning to oscar, several beats later, with a heated look that just pulls the australian right in.
"put the bag down, osc," he's demanding— oh fuck, "and come over here."
oscar feels rather mortified at the effect lando's assertiveness has on him. his heart curdles, drips away like goo, and he can't think straight.
toes off his shoes, sliding them out of the way with his foot, before dumping the bag on lando's luggage and tentatively making his way to the bed.
it's excruciatingly daunting, must he say, and he's sure it's blatant because y/n is grinning softly and beckoning him closer with the wave of a hand.
"you're good, oscar."
then he's fully on the bed, a thin sheen of gray blurring his vision and the stench of smoke so thick, he could get high off it alone.
lando's splayed in front of him, watching intensely as his fingers accomodate a joint between them, and y/n's at his side, right at the foot of the bed, fiddling with a metal tin of her own.
he wonders just how long they've been doing this for.
"for me, since i was 18/19 maybe. lando started about a year ago."
oscar's brain fucking spasms.
his head whips to y/n, then back to lando, who just smiles and takes another drag, "a year?!"
the girl beside him giggles, turning back to him with a freshly rolled spliff of his own, "yeah. practically drooling to take a hit."
his teammate groans, dragging a hand down his face before sitting up, they seem to go through this ordeal once or twice before.
before he can question any more, y/n points the joint at him, "you sure you want to do this?"
funny, he's asking himself this. has been ever since he read the proposition that lando (y/n) had sent, and he had replied with a seemingly confused 'sure'. heat feels like a thousands ants crawling up his body, and the silence is even worse because he's certain his ears are filled with cement.
"am i— am i gonna get addicted to... this?"
lando shakes his head just as y/n shrugs, "depends, love. if you've got good enough self control and don't rely on it too much, you'll be fine."
oscar gives a sigh of relief, but turns tense again as he looks at lando. almost telepathically, he knows what oscar is thinking.
"no osc, i'm not hooked on this. i only do it every couple of weeks or so."
his hands raise up in defense, "just asking, mate."
"and you have every right to, baby," y/n says, then scoops his hand into her grip and puts the spliff in his hand, "now take this and let lando teach you."
oscar doesn't know what to do with it. he just stares at the green stick in his hand and wills up some courage to look back up at lando. for the first time in 22 years, he's going to experience what it's like to get high, and the excitement that crawls up his spine is chilling.
"take this," lando pushes a bottle of water into his hands, and oscar looks at it in confusion.
"it's your first time, so it'll probably make you cough a ton. drinking water helps."
oscar nods, gently taking and unscrewing it open. he gulps it down like a starved animal, and almost chokes when he notices his teammates girlfriend staring bullets into his face. his heart jumps and he stops drinking.
"now put the spliff in your mouth and let me light it for you."
oscar does so, feeling the weight of the rolled joint between his lips is completely maddening.
his teammate fishes a black lighter from the bedside table, then scooches closer to oscar's crossed legs. lando's body is like a furnace of drunken heat, and it only gets worse when his hand lands right on oscar's bare thigh.
it feels perfect and oscar thinks he's surfing on the waves of euphoria already.
"this good?" lando questions his touch, and oscar doesn't waste time to nod, "alright— when i light it, you're gonna try and inhale as much as you can. don't let it stay in your throat or you're gonna cough."
oscar bobs his head affirmatively.
"if you can't, just take it in small amounts, not too much that it hits your throat."
then lando's leaning in, flame swaying from the lighter, and oscar's eyebrows scrunch as he follows it closer and closer to the spliff.
it's instaneous, the heat that fills his mouth, and in a hurried succession, oscar is inhaling and spluttering like a madman. his eyes are burning, they may already be red at this point, and his nose feels ripped off.
"take it easy, love," a hand- y/n's- rests upon his back and he finds himself needing composure, and not only from his failed attempt to smoke.
"wow uh that was— uhm..."
lando rubs his thigh, with the intention to comfort, but oscar finds himself more pent up than before. the weed is already kicking in and his mind feels chopped into pieces and mixed with cake batter, and every touch feels like a punch.
"you good to go again?" lando queries. oscar nods, his throat feeling too rough to speak up, "okay then, take your time and calm yourself down. small intakes, yeah?"
the spliff goes back between his lips, and with lando watching him like he's the best movie he's ever seen, he's sucking in the smoke cautiously and— fuck, it feels so so good. he's unravelled everywhere, not a kink left in his joint nor a knot remaining in his muscles, and when he breathes the smoke out, he lets his head fall back with a smile on his face.
"there you go," lando's voice sounds loose and airy in his mind, and oscar finds himself loving it.
"look at him, babe," y/n chimes from beside him, and his head rolls to give her an inebriated grin, "told you he was meant for it."
lando hums, agreeing, from in front of him, "gonna shotgun with him."
whatever that is, y/n is eager to see it happen, and oscar gives lando a confused look. it only evokes a cute grin from the other, who plucks the spliff from oscar's fingers.
"i'll take a hit and blow it in your mouth, if that's cool with you."
and— oscar moans involuntarily. he doesn't know where it comes from but it's practically punched out of him with how loud it is, and lando smirks widely. all oscar can do is watch as he fills his mouth with smoke and shuffles closer to him. his heart palpitates, beating like a drum piece, and his skin is damp and flushed from the intensity of it all.
lando assesses oscar's decision, confirming his consent as he nods, and slowly, lando snakes an arm around his neck, pulling him closer. oscar is compliant, body wanting and downright desperate, mouth opening on autopilot.
the second lando's lips attach to his and the smoke is pushed into his mouth, oscar fucking loses it. his eyes roll to the back of his head, and he's grabbing lando's hair and pushing his mouth deeper.
he's kissing his teammate with all he has to give, and lando— he's reciprocating it, lips hungry on oscar's, biting and licking everywhere. for a second, oscar can't think about anything, mind filled with just lando, as his tongue slips in and turns the kiss filthy.
oscar hasn't made out with anyone with such ferocity. he's encompassed in scorching heat, and the euphoria just gets better as lando trails his lips down his neck. the bites and licks are inclement, and oscar's sure there'd be marks tomorrow, angry and purple, but right now, he doesn't care. not when lando's hands creep up his shirt, and run up his torso, resting upon his nipples and twirling them around his fingers.
"oh fuck, lando," his moan is so high pitched it sounds foreign and it's almost hard for him to believe that it comes from him. but he's sure it does, because another is forced out as soft hand turns his head to the side and there's another set of lips on his in an instant.
he thinks he could hooked on y/n's kisses, warm, wet and so fucking sensual, he feels worshipped. not an inch of skin is missed by her tongue, and with every drag of her lips against his, he's concluding that this would be the perfect way to die.
oscar's so hard in his jeans from lando's stimulation, y/n's kisses, and the heightened sensation of everything from the weed, that he almost cums in his shorts. he can only imagine how plump it could be, and how a mouth on it would have him sobbing for days.
but he doesn't have to, because lando creeps a hand to his crotch and squeezes. the whine that leaves oscars mouth and into his teammate's girlfriend's is criminal.
"gonna suck you off so good, osc," lando moans in his ear, breath warm and words dirty, "you like that?"
and as oscar begs him to, he thinks that maybe getting high with lando and y/n isn't so bad afterall.

[Newly Declassified Document from U.S. Army Medical Corps Archives, 1944 Subject: Medical Assessment Report — Pvt. Andrew “Drew” Matthews (Service No. 5XXXX) Date: May 10, 1944 Location: Field Hospital, Western Front
Background & Context
Private Andrew “Drew” Matthews, 18, is currently serving overseas under the U.S. Army. Initial enlistment was in late 1943. He has been under periodic medical review following the discovery of an unexpected pregnancy while stationed in-theater. According to the most recent examinations, Pvt. Matthews is now at approximately seven months gestation. This update provides a detailed assessment of his physical condition, with particular focus on rectal and hip adaptations pertinent to male pregnancy.
Current Medical Evaluation
General Physical Status
Vital Signs:
Blood Pressure: 115/76 (stable)
Pulse: 84 BPM (slightly elevated but within normal pregnancy parameters)
Respiration: 18 breaths per minute
Weight Gain: 18 pounds above initial enlistment baseline (notable increase from previous month, consistent with advancing gestation).
Gestational Progress
Estimated 28 weeks (7 months). The uterine and lower abdominal growth is consistent with typical third-trimester developments in male pregnancy.
Fetal heart tones remain strong on auscultation (~146 BPM). Fetal movements reported to be frequent, especially in the evenings.
Rectal Examination
Pvt. Matthews reports periodic pressure and heaviness in the rectal canal, especially when standing or marching for extended periods.
On gentle palpation, the rectum shows increased vascularity and mild swelling, which is not unusual in the late stages of male pregnancy. However, care must be taken to prevent or manage potential hemorrhoids, given added strain in this region.
The anal sphincter demonstrates normal tone, though Pvt. Matthews describes occasional episodes of discomfort—likely linked to fetal positioning and the downward pressure exerted by the growing child.
Hip and Pelvic Girdle Assessment
Complaints of hip soreness and lower back ache have intensified since last examination (one month prior). This is attributed to gradual pelvic widening and the shifting center of gravity.
Physical palpation indicates mild ligament laxity around the hip joints—a natural adaptation in male pregnancies as the body prepares for labor.
Pvt. Matthews experiences discomfort when required to traverse uneven terrain or stand in formation for extended durations. He reports temporary relief with short seated rests and mild stretches.
Nutritional and Environmental Factors
Wartime rationing complicates access to fresh produce, but additional calorie allowances have been arranged.
Daily supplements (when available) include powdered milk, iron tablets, and occasionally vitamin-fortified biscuits. Pvt. Matthews has been instructed to remain vigilant about hydration, as dehydration can exacerbate swelling and discomfort.
Duty Restrictions and Lifestyle
Currently assigned to administrative duties at a rear-echelon facility to minimize prolonged standing and heavy lifting.
Recommended low-impact movements: occasional short walks, gentle pelvic exercises, and if feasible, daily check-ins with medical staff for observation.
Sleep remains inconsistent due to frequent nighttime fetal activity and shared barracks noise, though Pvt. Matthews states he manages intermittent rest as best he can.
Psychological Outlook
Pvt. Matthews displays a mix of resolve and concern. He expresses worry about the stigma associated with his pregnancy and the uncertainty of how the child will be cared for if deployment conditions worsen.
Reports a sense of relief in having official medical oversight. Limited but consistent morale support from select squadmates and some discreet chaplain consultations appear beneficial.
Recommendations
Rectal & Hip Care
Moderate Rest: Schedule routine seated breaks to alleviate rectal pressure.
Support Garments: A supportive belt or band around the lower abdomen may reduce strain on hips and rectal canal.
Warm Compresses: Applied to the lower back and hips can mitigate soreness; for rectal discomfort, brief sitz baths or mild topical ointments (when resources permit).
Continued Nutritional Support
Maintain priority rations and supplements. Encourage iron- and protein-rich foods to prevent anemia and support fetal growth.
Ensure hydration, especially given increased metabolic demands at seven months.
Monitoring and Follow-Up
Regular monthly checks, or sooner if rectal swelling increases or if new symptoms arise (e.g., significant bleeding, severe pelvic pain).
Coordinate with field hospital staff to prepare for potential labor or complications, given the unusual deployment environment.
Emotional and Social Support
Where possible, arrange for discreet counseling. Encourage Pvt. Matthews to continue confiding in chaplain or trusted medical personnel, minimizing isolation.
If feasible, discuss postpartum logistics with commanding officers to ensure the newborn’s welfare and Pvt. Matthews’s postpartum recovery.
Conclusion
At seven months pregnant, Pvt. Matthews remains in stable condition with no immediate red flags detected aside from typical third-trimester challenges. Symptoms such as rectal heaviness, hip soreness, and general fatigue reflect the normal physiological adaptations of late-stage male pregnancy. Ongoing support, both medical and logistical, will be crucial to ensure a safe outcome for both father and child as wartime circumstances persist.
Signed,
Capt. Robert H. Nolan, M.D.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
rafayel.
Tumblr media
rafayel would do the major & little things he can to support you.
from adjusting your pillows just right whenever one of you sleeps over, to giving you massages when you feel only a little sore.
he would often ask you what he can do to help until it's second nature to know what to do before you even say it.
since he likes going out on dates with you, if you decide to cancel, he would immediately respect that and would already have your reservations cancelled in an instant.
if doctors are ever dismissive, he’s your guy.
he would have personal beef with the doctor.
“(s)he looks funny anyway. come on, we’re getting a better doctor.”
if you ever feel like you are a burden, he would clear that thought away from your head in a flash.
would tell you that you're never a burden and that he doesn't want you to feel that way around him or anyone else.
makes you pinky promise you won't think like that again.
*narrows his eyes at you* "swear it."
until he catches your smile and nods, only then does he smile back again and says, "good :)"
with rafayel, feeling bad about your condition is never and will never even be an option.
he makes sure you feel loved, not limited.
Tumblr media
sylus.
Tumblr media
sylus sees you as the strongest person and not how you may see yourself.
if you ever feel frustrated about your condition, he just listens.
when it would be time for him to talk, he would say something like:
"what you think are your limits aren’t your problem. they’re only everyone else’s if they even think they can hold you back."
if you also have POTS, he has you staying hydrated.
mastered casual but intentional help.
like opening doors without making it obvious and handing you something before even you realize you need it.
honestly cute if you think he'd ever let you over work yourself.
has soft-close drawers and doors to reduce strain on joints in both your homes.
in public, if you ever struggle to stand up, he offers a hand or just picks you up, completely unfazed.
if you’re too exhausted to move at home, he just comes next to you and tucks you against his chest while playing with your hair.
and if you feel a certain way about yourself in a moment and let him know:
“it’s tough, i get it. but you’re still tougher.”
a better doctor to you than actual doctors.
after zayne, he is for sure the most patient with mood swings or exhaustion.
Tumblr media
caleb.
Tumblr media
caleb totally does a lot of research on how to better be of help to you.
and i mean a lot.
he would ask zayne for help but may take credit by saying:
"i figured since i was readin' about it earlier today :)"
LIESS.
zayne/your primary doctor told him 51% of what he knows.
he tends to assume how you want to be assisted but, in the sense where it's just him doing everything for you... until you tell him you really can do certain things yourself.
he would be a little hurt at that but it's okay. (it's not, he's sad now.)
but from there on, he would start asking you before stepping in to help because he would start to see that you can and would like to do things on your own.
BUT. he's got cooking, cleaning, and carrying things that might strain your joints covered. no matter what you say.
and don't be surprised if you're trying to do something and he just uses his evol to lightly prevent you from doing it.
"nuh uh, i'm not lettin' you do that."
since he's more of a gym baby than the other guys, he would encourage gentle movement/stretching to prevent muscle stiffness. simply as his way of wanting to help and also exercise together. either that or he massages you.
if you use canes, braces or wheelchairs, he would get you ones with stickers, cool designs and even matching accessories.
in your home with him, there would be absolutely no furniture with sharp edges that could cause quick bruising or an injury in sight.
last but not least, caleb would spend his time building & finalizing a mobility aid that helps with your joint pain but also doesn't cause another joint pain in a different part of your body from its use.
caleb would genuinely love you for what you can or can't do.
your condition wouldn't change a thing—it’s just another part of you for him to love.
Tumblr media
xavier.
Tumblr media
unlike someone, xavier actually offers his help rather than rushing in head first because he's knows what's up.
he helps with braces, taping, or your compression gear if you use it.
and if you personally don't, he still finds your hypermobility fascinating.
since he likes quality time, he makes sure to balance your hanging out with rest. or just a quiet time quality time.
"let’s just sit for a while. we don't need to talk if you don’t want to."
he would totally buy you multiple weighted blankets to use at home and say:
“this here is the best one, trust me."
and you'd be like "?? and how do you know that?"
because how could he know that? unless he-
"*hesitates* uhh i tested like five... and another five more.”
and lordd he did. he really did. with no shame.
he would help you with repetitive tasks that might cause strain.
like opening jars, carrying groceries, or even typing for long periods. or completing your (home)works that he could.
if you ever cancel plans or need extra rest, this is your man.
althoughhh, he's for sure coming over and sleeping next to you.
would be mindful of how he hugs you when sleeping for that gentle & perfect pressure though.
if you ever feel bad ever, he would say many words of comfort to you like:
“i know it’s hard… but i’m here, okay? you don’t have to go through it alone."
or
“it’s okay to be upset. you’re allowed to feel this way, i’m right here to listen.”
or even something like:
"you don’t have to be strong all the time. and if you ever forget that, i’ll just remind you as much as i have to."
Tumblr media
zayne.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a doctor for a boyfriend? yeah you're in great hands.
his only true focus is on you.
although almost like caleb with the assumptions, zayne has his own tendency to assume how you may be feeling but solely because of patterns he keeps track of that relate to other parts of your health and how he gets your feelings right each time.
with your condition though, he is sure to be mindful to avoid doing that by focusing on asking how you feel instead, at the appropriate times to.
he also makes sure that you eat enough protein to support your muscle health.
most helpful and understanding award goes to him. especially during times where you may have heavy migranes.
since he is your doctor, if you also happen to have POTS, he will make sure to increase your salt intake by the right amount.
he would also keep track of when you last took your meds, as well as remember small details about you that no one else may.
he would be the best at helping you with subluxations/dislocations without panicking if it ever happens.
he knows when to step in and when to step back.
if you feel like you have to explain yourself in ways you feel while next to him, he will hear what you have to say and make sure to validate you all while saying something like:
"you don’t have to explain yourself—i already know, and i’m always going to be here."

“Why would you subject yourself to biology?”
You shrugged at the question.
But it was an assignment from that very class that had both you and your boyfriend at your local park hunting for flowers. The afternoon sunlight was slowly dipping lower and a gentle breeze swayed amongst the grass around your ankles. After carefully closing the lid of your lip balm and tucking it into your jacket pocket, you crouched down beside your boyfriend and took your biology question booklet out of his hands.
“Because,” you started, “I needed a science subject to close out my timetable and Miss Hwang said that bio had more visual learning and there were more hands-on experiments that we could do, so— Wait, why am I even explaining this to you? Dig!”
You nudged Riki with your shoulder, ignoring his groans as you flipped through the question booklet, making sure you’d found the right flower specimen.
Dissecting flora and delving into the horticulture topic was fascinating but equally a challenge. At the start, it included a lot of labelling and diagrams, and then it became more fun when your teacher brought in the bouquets — you and your friends got side tracked in class and started researching the language of flowers.
Riki had even started to take an interest when you talked about your lessons, sitting in the art room with him while he sketched.
Presently, as you pulled your phone out to take down a few notes, you smiled at the little doodle he did of carnation flowers that you’d placed in your phone case.
“They mean love, or something,” he’d muttered as he handed the sketch to you.
“Or something,” you’d muttered back before kissing him on the cheek.
more under cut !!
You shook your head, smiling at the memory while you closed your notes app and opened the camera instead. “Alright, here, take this.” Handing the phone to Riki, you chose to do the actual extraction yourself.
You grabbed the base of the stem and started to tug at it gently. Maybe a little too gently.
The seconds passed by and the stem moved just under a centimetre before Riki finally lost his patience and sighed a little. “Just pluck it.”
You shot him a small, harmless glare to which he replied with his tongue poking out but he remained in place ready to snap the photo.
“Riki, I need the root system as well.”
His expression soured. “I hate your teacher.”
“She hates you too. Go write a diss track about it later.”
You heard him chuckle quietly, your cheeks heating up at the sound.
It took you a few moments to brace yourself through it but eventually, you pulled out the flower, roots and all, and held in your hands as if it was a delicate angels feather. The sigh of relief that left your lips was nothing compared to the groan from Riki when he stood up after finally taking the photo.
“Ugh, my ankles are killing me.” He rolled his head back and clicked the joints in his neck and shoulders while he talked.
You felt a little bad for him but you needed the help. And in all honesty, Riki took better photos than you. The angle, the lighting, it all looked better when he was holding the camera. You used to think there was some secret to it but you quickly came to realise he just had an eye for beauty and composition that no one else had.
You loved the photo, immediately emailing it to yourself so you’d have it on your laptop. When you turned your gaze back up at Riki, he was resting his hands behind his head, eyes drooping a little.
You smirked. “Aw is Shnookums tired?” Reaching forward, your tried to poke his cheek before he gently swatted you away.
Your smile only grew at the sight of how Riki pinched the bridge of his nose, it seemed the memory of such a flattering childhood nicknames was an unwelcome one. “Stop, that was one time.” As he turned to walk further into the park, you could almost hear Riki chuckle as you hurried to catch up to him.
“I don’t know Shnookie,” your voice was torturously teasing, “The home videos your sister showed me say a different story.”
“God the next time I see her…”
Laughter blossomed out of you. Reaching for his hand, you continued to explore the local park’s flora and compare it to the required specimens needed for your biology class.
You’d carefully bagged each flower in a zip lock and handed them to Riki to slide into a folder before placing it in your backpack. Your little system of discovery, extraction, documentation and storage was going well, and you’d just about finished the list with only three remaining specimens left.
“Ok, I say we wrap it up for the day.” Riki got up from his crouched position for the seventh time in the afternoon, stretching every joint carefully, waiting for you to get up as well. Your jacket was slung over his shoulder like a towel, his own makeshift neck pillow.
“Uh…” You remained huddled on the grass, fingers flipping through the biology booklet.
“Y/N?” You looked up, seeing Riki’s expectant gaze, his hand outstretched ready to help you up. “Let’s go, I can walk you home.”
“I think I’m gonna stay a little longer. I can get my mum to pick me up, don’t worry.”
Asking Riki not to worry was like asking him to immediately start panicking, because both resulted in the same outcome. His eyebrows would furrow, his shoulder would tense up, his only goal would be to understand why and what he could do to help.
“I don’t understand,” he reached for your hand, pulling you up with ease, wanting to speak to you at eye level, or, somewhat-eye-level. “This isn’t due until after the weekend. You’ve got time to do this, you can take a break for now. Right?”
You gripped the booklet in your other hand a little tighter.
“Y/N, hey, it’s ok to take a break.”
You puffed out a breath, blowing some stray hairs off your cheeks. “I know that,” you mused. “I just need to do this now. I think… It could make Miss Hwang happy, that’s all.”
Riki’s frown turned from concern to judgement so fast, you’d miss the transition if you blinked. “Ok, what? Who gives a fuck what she thinks?”
“My parents, my report card, my scholarship applications, my—”
“I get it.”
He subtly reached for your wrist, his fingers gentle as they slide down your palm and interlocked with yours.
The silence was anticipatory. The kind where you could feel his questions churning inside by the way his thumb tapped against the back of your hand. It was the kind of silence where you felt his gaze on you a few times as if waiting for you to break the quiet and initiate some conversation.
Riki liked having answer, that much you knew. But you also knew that he’d never force them out of you.
Maybe that’s why it was easier to talk to him more than anyone else.
“Miss Hwang held me and a few others back in class last week.”
Riki slowed down his pace a little, frowning as he recollected the past week. “Hang on, you said you had extra bio work to do.”
“I did,” you shrugged. “I was doing it while she held me back. I, um…”
The hesitation on your face made Riki frown a little deeper, his lips pouting just enough to alleviate your mood that littlest bit. He really did not like that woman, and for what it was worth, that amused you deeply.
Enough to admit the reason with a shy smirk, “She may have seen me texting you while my friends and I did buzzfeed quizzes.”
He scoffed, his head tipping back with a sigh, the mental image of you, his high achieving girlfriend, wasting class time? “Buzzfeed? Really?”
Your eyes lit up with a simmering annoyance that you’d been harbouring for days. “We finished the class work! She was being so petty!”
“She is petty.”
You sighed, “She’s not horrible. Just, I don’t know, strict?”
Shrugging, Riki led you to a park bench to take a seat. “Lovingly, don’t care. Not a fan.”
“Doesn’t matter,” you leaned back onto the cool wood of the park bench, “I need to make her a fan of me again. I really don’t want to lose the favour of a teacher like her ya know?”
Riki merely gave you a blank expression before conceding, “Yeah, ‘kay.”
Wordlessly, he pulled your jacket off his shoulders and dropped it on your lap before taking the biology booklet out of your hands. He started flipping through.
You raised an eyebrow at his actions but quickly became distracted by the sheer concentration on his face.
It was the same face he wore when making sure he had every material needed before painting. Or when he was making sure he’d followed the rule of thirds during a preliminary canvas sketch. He had a precision to his perspective that you could not find in another person.
He only further proved your point by putting an arm over your shoulder and bringing you closer so that you could read along with him. He muttered under his breath about how many samples you’d collected, how many double ups you’d found, the general locations and other areas you could try in the park before it got too dark.
“You want to finish this by the end of the week right? Submit it early?” He didn’t wait for an answer before getting off the bench, taking you with him, his hand holding yours once again. “I’d say we’ve got fifteen more minutes before the street lights turn on.”
He turned to face you again. “We might have to come back tomorrow, babe. I’m sorry.” Pressing a soft kiss on your temple, Riki pulled his phone out to text his sister, asking her to come pick you both up. When he looked back up, Riki halted at the sight of your smile.
“You’re not upset?”
“What?” You hadn’t realised you’d been smiling. Shaking your head to compose yourself, you breathed out a nervous laugh, “Right. No, I’m not. I just… Thank you.”
You smiled wider at his confusion, spurring him to smile back, no less confused than before. At that moment the weight of Miss Hwang’s expectations didn’t matter. Your drive to please her regulated into a drive to please yourself.
As you slowly pulled Riki back to the park bench to sit next you, the simmering urge to submit early started to dissipate. Of course you knew it would come back again tomorrow morning, and you were prepared for that. But maybe Riki had a point, you could afford to take a break.
You’d made excellent progress, and with his help tomorrow, you’d have this assignment completed well before the due date, exactly as planned.
The street lights started to flicker to life, burning their midnight oil, unlike you, who’d chosen to preserve yours.
“You okay?” Riki’s voice was low, lower than a whisper. He still wore an expression of confusion but it had morphed into intrigue, enchantment — he didn’t need to know why you thanked him, he just needed to make sure whatever he did, he’d keep doing it.
“Yeah, I’m okay,” you whispered back. “I guess sometimes it hits different, knowing that I’ve got people in my corner, rooting for me and doing whatever they can to help me succeed. Even if the prize isn’t anything special.”
Riki smirked, “In your own words, an A+ is better than a winning lottery ticket.” He pulled you closer once again, the feeling of his arm draped over your shoulder was a welcomed comfort, a familiar warmth.
Even his teasing was welcomed; “That is a foul sentiment, by the way. Who taught you something so illogical? Let me at ‘em.”
You giggled at his dramatics. “I was being sarcastic.”
“I should hope so.”
Riki’s thumb drew small circles into your shoulder, his head dropping down to rest on top of yours. “Seriously, though. You don’t need to thank me for this. Of course I’d help you.”
Your cheeks felt like they were in bloom, lip quirking up as you spoke. “Even though you hate Miss Hwang?”
“Especially because I hate Miss Hwang,” he scoffed, sitting up a little to face you, the glint in his eyes like a fire cracker just looking for trouble.
“Think about it,” he started, “What better way is there to get back at that witch?” He pulled your biology booklet out once more, flipping through the pages speedily, as if to show just how much you’d completed in one afternoon.
“She’s gonna have to give you the top mark, and her knowing that you’re my girl just makes it better.”
You gasped, mockingly. “You petty little—”
“Listen sweets, if there’s anyone that I want succeeding, it’s you.” His arm found its place over your shoulder once more, this time pulling you into the warmth between his collar and neck.
“My support shouldn’t be a shock, it’s a given,” he said, softly.
You breathed in his scent, a little musky coupled with the slight smell of acrylic paint. Pursing your lips, biting back another smile, you turned to gaze up at him.
He glanced down. “What?”
You hummed a noncommittal tone, “You just look very kissable right now.”
It was amusing to witness, the way Riki’s gentle expression morphed into a boyish grin. “Well not to brag but, I fear I just wake up looking kissable.”
“Mhm.”
He nodded, “Honestly, go ahead, feel how kissable my lips are.” Just to prove his point, he puckered them up for you dramatically.
Nudging him in the ribs lightly, you leaned away in faux disgust. “Shut up.”
“Oh come on,” he grabbed your wrist, “I even used your lip balm.”
Your smile dropped, brows furrowing instantly.
Riki halted, verbally backpedaling “Wait, I mean—”
“You used my limited edition lemon drop lip balm?!”
“…No?”
You hands patted frantically against your jacket that was rested on your lap, feeling each of the pockets and finding no small plastic tube of citrusy softness.
Your gaze locked with your boyfriend’s, who’d already gotten off the bench and started walking away hastily.
“Riki!” You followed after him, both of you speeding into a jog, then a run, then a sprint.
Riki’s deep laughter resounded the local park, every other passerby with a dog or on a walk had turned to look at the scene that bolted past them.
You groaned, feeling yourself slowing down. “Stop running!”
“Stop chasing!” He yelled over his shoulder, turning slightly to see your speed reduce, causing him to do the same.
He kept a decent distance from you, hands up in surrender. Well, one hand open. The other was in a fist, his large palm could have been hiding anything but you had an inkling to what was inside.
“Got it right here,” he declared, smugly. Your beloved lip balm.
You stalked closer, before lunging forward to reach his hand. A failed attempt, of course. as he simply lifted it higher. “When did you even take it? Give it back!”
Your hands went to his ribs, aiming to tickle him into submission but he quickly dodged you, circling around, his free hand on your shoulder to hold you at arms length.
“Give me a kiss first!” His eyes were alight, sparked with love, cloaked with mischief.
You shook your head, your own grin was involuntary at that point. “Riki, I swear—”
“Nope.” He leaned forward, his empty hand snaking around your waist and pulling you closer. “My name’s not Riki, it’s Shnookums. Now hold still and you’ll get your lip balm.”
You fidgeted out of his grip, determined to hold off on kissing him until you got your limited edition. “Fine.” Your hand was held out, palm open for the trade.
Riki unfurled his fist, an empty hand grasped yours and pulled you into him, his own lips locking onto yours.
Any semblance of stubborn determination was immediately dissolved against the taste of lemon meringue and citrusy zest that met your tongue.
The flavour faltered your thoughts, leaving you a blinking, blushing mess as Riki pulled away.
“Is that enough lip balm for you?” He shoved his hands in his pockets, taking a couple steps back.
You jutted your lip out, deep in pretend-thought. “I might need more, funnily enough.”
You giggled at his expression. “Hilarious.”

Sports Day
Pairing: Poly!Buddie x Disabled!Reader Summary: You power through the chaos and pain of Sports Day to make it magical for Christopher. Thankfully, Buck and Eddie have your back—ice packs, sandwiches, and all. Tags: disabled!reader, prosthetic discomfort, depictions of chronic pain, reader masking pain with cheer, reader refusing to sit down, stubborn selflessness, buck notices everything, eddie knows what you need without asking, christopher being a ray of sunshine and joy, gentle physical affection, subtle but steady support, casual caretaking, fluff, hurt/comfort, reader quietly falling apart, buck being a licensed dork, eddie being your anchor, soft found family vibes, grounded slice of life, no use of y/n, heat and humidity as another antagonist Word count: 2k words
Tumblr media
The sun is high overhead, its rays warming the back of your neck as you set out cones for the sack race. The scent of freshly cut grass mingles with sunscreen, sweat, and the faint aroma of hot dogs grilling nearby. Laughter bubbles up around you, punctuated by the screech of sneakers against pavement and exclamations of elementary school excitement. The air is heavy with humidity, and you can feel your shirt clinging to your back. To your left, a parent struggles with a pop-up tent, its fabric billowing like a sail caught in a gust. Whistles pierce the air from various points across the field.
Your prosthetic has been giving you trouble since you climbed out of the car this morning—a pinch in the socket that no amount of adjusting seems to alleviate, a stiffness in the joint that wasn't there yesterday. There's a slight click with every step, a reminder that even the most advanced technology is not infallible. You grit your teeth and shift your weight, offering a broad smile to the first group of children lining up at the start of the sack race.
You've always prided yourself on your ability to navigate any terrain, but today, each dip in the ground, each patch of uneven grass, feels like a mountain range under your foot. The pressure inside the socket builds with every passing minute, a silent crescendo that radiates up through your limb and settles into a deep, throbbing ache.
But you refuse to let it ruin this day. It's Christopher's day. He's been looking forward to this for weeks, marking off each day on his homemade countdown calendar, a riot of glitter glue and stick figures.
You've seen him glance your way twice already, his red forearm crutches gleaming under the sun as he tosses beanbags with fierce determination. His laughter rings out, carrying across the field, a sound that warms you even as the chill of discomfort edges in. Each time he looks over, you raise your hand and wink, a silent promise that everything is fine.
Bending down to right a fallen cone, you wince as the movement tugs at your limb. The pain is sharp, but you push it away, focusing instead on the cheers and laughter that fill the air.
The chaos of the sack race is a chorus of squeals, laughter, and delighted shrieks. Children tumble out of burlap, their limbs akimbo, their faces flushed with joy and exertion. They cheer each other on, their voices rising in a unified crescendo that fills the air with the sweet symphony of childhood.
You clap along, your hands stinging from the force of your encouragement. You adjust your stance every few minutes, shifting the weight off your throbbing leg. The pain is sharper now, a serrated blade carving into your flesh and bone, spreading its tendrils up to your hip and down to your lower back. Sweat beads on your forehead, but you wipe it away quickly, maintaining the mask of pleasure for the children who look towards you for approval.
A little girl trips, landing hard on her knees. You wince, feeling the impact in your own body, but you're by her side in an instant, checking her scraped hands and offering words of praise. "That was quite a tumble."
By the time the water balloon toss starts, your shirt clings to your back, damp with sweat, and your leg feels like it's caught in a vice. Every step sends a jolt of pain through your body, and bending down to pick up stray balloons tests your resolve more than you want to admit. A few teachers offer to take over, seeing the strain etched in the lines of your face, but you wave them off with a smile that's becoming harder to maintain.
"No, I've got this," you assure them, though your voice lacks its earlier strength. "I want to be here." And you mean it. Being part of this day, Chris's day, means more than your discomfort. More than the pain that threatens to buckle your knees.
Despite the agony gnawing at your resilience, you keep going, keep smiling, because this is about more than just you. It's about the joy in these children's eyes, the laughter that rings out like music, the tiny victories they'll remember for a lifetime.
You give high-fives to wet kids, gently chide the ones who start impromptu water fights, and help a little girl with her slippery balloon. Every step is a reminder of the long day ahead, but you ignore the urge to sit down, just five more minutes, just until the rotation. You can feel the soreness creeping up your back now, settling between your shoulder blades like an unwanted guest.
When the final whistle blows and the clamour of children moves to the next station, you allow yourself to sink onto the edge of a shaded bench near the trees. You lean back, closing your eyes for a moment, allowing the cool touch of the shade to soothe your heated skin. You roll your shoulders, wincing as the movement sends a twinge of pain through your upper back. Breathe through it, you remind yourself, just as you've done countless times before.
You hiss through your teeth as you shift, trying to find a comfortable position that accommodates the rigid prosthesis beneath your jeans. Your fingers curl around the edge of the bench, knuckles white with the effort. You're about to reach down and adjust your pant leg when a shadow falls across your lap.
"Ma'am, I heard there's been a minor incident on the west field," Buck's voice comes out in a playful serious tone, belying the grin that tugs at the corners of his mouth. He kneels before you, blocking out the sun as if you're the only thing that matters right now. From behind his back, he produces two small ice packs with a flourish. "I'm here to administer immediate first aid. Please remain calm."
You laugh, accepting one of the packs. "You're such a dork."
"A certified, licensed dork," he agrees, gently placing the other pack against the side of your leg, above where the liner meets the metal. His touch is careful, almost reverent, and his eyes meet yours with that familiar concern you've come to expect whenever you're in pain. He lingers for a moment, fingers brushing your knee, grounding you. You know he's been watching you from across the field all afternoon.
Eddie's presence is quieter, less assuming as he settles next to you. The brim of his worn Dodgers cap casts a shadow over his face, hiding his eyes behind a pair of sunglasses. He holds out a sandwich, wrapped neatly in foil. "Turkey and cheese," he says, a simple statement that carries more weight than any casual observer could understand. "Thought you might be hungry. And I brought a juice box. Staying hydrated is key."
You take the half-sandwich from him with a nod, your fingers brushing against his in the exchange. Eddie doesn't respond verbally, but he moves subtly closer, his arm just grazing yours. It's a silent promise of support, steady and unwavering. You can almost hear the sigh he lets out, one that speaks volumes of shared worry and relief. He opens your juice box for you and hands it over without a word.
Relief comes in waves, each breath easier than the last. The pain hasn't disappeared entirely, but its sharp edges have dulled, replaced by a cool wave of relief that washes over you. As you take a small bite, the sandwich tastes like the finest gourmet meal you've had in days. Hunger, it seems, had been gnawing at you more insistently than you'd realized. You chew slowly, savoring the simple flavors as the breeze picks up, chasing away the lingering beads of sweat on your neck.
Across the field, Christopher is getting ready for the three-legged race, leaning on a classmate's shoulder instead of his crutches for the moment. His grin is wide, cheeks flushed with excitement, eyes scanning the crowd until they find you. Even from this distance, his joy is palpable, radiating warmth under the afternoon sun.
He lifts a hand in an enthusiastic wave. You wave back, and he beams, focus snapping back to the race ahead. You watch him lean into his partner, whisper something, then giggle.
"He's doing so well today," you murmur, your eyes never leaving Christopher. Pride swells in your chest with every step he takes, every obstacle he conquers.
"He's amazing," Buck agrees, his tone softer than usual. He glances at you out of the corner of his eye, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "Kinda like someone else I know."
You roll your eyes, but there's a smile tugging at your own lips. You nudge his shoulder with your good leg. "Laying it on thick today, aren't we?"
"Only because you deserve to hear it," Buck retorts, the smile now fully formed on his face. It transforms him, softens the lines that usually mark his concern for you, Eddie and Christopher.
Eddie's laugh is quiet beside you, an undercurrent to the chatter around you. His arm rests against the back of the bench, just brushing your shoulders. You feel the faint pressure as his hand settles there, his thumb tracing small circles near your collarbone. It's a touch that speaks volumes, a silent promise that he's there, always.
Christopher finishes the race—second to last, but triumphant—and starts making his way back to you. His gait is uneven, the rhythmic clatter of his crutches punctuating each step. As he passes by other kids, some reach out to give him fist bumps, their smiles genuine. Christopher grins back at each one, his face brighter than the sun above. Your heart swells even more, if that's possible. You start to push yourself up, wanting to meet him halfway, but he shakes his head.
"Can I sit with you?" His voice is small, almost drowned out by the noise of the crowd.
"Of course, baby." You pat the space next to you.
He settles beside you, then slowly, carefully, he lays down, resting his head in your lap. You run your fingers through his curls, mindful not to jostle your broken leg. He sighs, a sound of pure contentment, and you feel him start to relax. His fingers absently play with the hem of your shirt.
"You did great out there," you whisper to him, and even with his eyes closed, you see the corners of his mouth lift in a smile.
Buck plops down on the grass next to you, his long legs folding under him as he wraps an arm around one knee, peering up at you and Chris. Every so often, he shifts the ice pack above your prosthetic, a reminder of his constant attention.
Eddie hovers nearby, a silent guardian ready to catch you if you falter again. He adjusts the angle of the umbrella, casting more shade over you all, and rests a hand on your leg, grounding you.
All around, the Sports Day festivities continue, a whirlwind of energy and excitement that seems miles away from your little island of calm. Laughter rings out across the field, punctuated by the pop of water balloons and the shrill whistle from the obstacle course. Kids sprint past in a blur of team colours, their screams of delight carrying on the breeze, but here, next to the medical tent, the world is still and steady.
You lean your head back against Eddie's shoulder, the solid warmth of him anchoring you. Buck starts to narrate the chaos of the three-legged race in exaggerated tones, drawing giggles from Christopher even with his eyes squeezed shut. It's been a while since you've felt this safe, this protected.
Underneath the umbrella, its shadow dancing across your face, the pain in your leg becomes a distant hum. It's still there, a pulsing reminder of your fall, but it's manageable now, pushed to the back of your mind by the reassuring presence of your son and the unwavering support of your friends.
You made it through, just like you always do when they're by your side.

Conclusion
Tumblr media
Seismic engineering design plays a crucial role in piping stress analysis within industrial facilities, especially in regions prone to earthquakes. Piping stress analysis involves evaluating the forces and stresses that piping systems experience during various operational conditions, including seismic events.
Here's how seismic engineering design is important for piping stress analysis:
Safety and Structural Integrity: Seismic engineering design ensures that the entire facility, including piping systems, is built to withstand the forces generated by earthquakes. The structural integrity of piping systems is paramount for preventing leaks, ruptures, or catastrophic failures during seismic events. Piping stress analysis assesses the impact of seismic forces on the pipes, supports, and attachments to verify that they can withstand the dynamic loads and deformations caused by earthquakes.
Compliance with Building Codes: Piping systems within industrial facilities must adhere to building codes and standards related to earthquake-resistant design. Seismic engineering design ensures that piping systems are compliant with these codes. Non-compliance can lead to costly retrofitting efforts or, in the worst-case scenario, dangerous failures during an earthquake.
Identifying Vulnerabilities: Seismic engineering design involves conducting a seismic risk assessment for the facility. This assessment helps identify vulnerabilities in the piping systems, such as weak points in support structures or connections that may be prone to failure during seismic events. Piping stress analysis considers these vulnerabilities and recommends improvements to enhance seismic resilience.
Optimal Pipe Routing and Support: Piping stress analysis incorporates considerations for seismic forces when determining the routing of pipes and the design of pipe supports. Proper pipe routing and support are essential to prevent excessive stresses, vibrations, and displacements during an earthquake. Seismic engineering design helps optimize these factors to minimize potential damage to the piping systems.
Dynamic Load Analysis: Seismic events introduce dynamic loads on piping systems, which are significantly different from static loads. Piping stress analysis uses dynamic load analysis techniques to simulate the effects of seismic forces on pipes, fittings, and supports. This analysis ensures that the piping systems can handle the dynamic loads without exceeding their stress limits.
Retrofitting and Modifications: In existing facilities, seismic engineering design may involve retrofitting or modifying piping systems to meet current seismic standards. Piping stress analysis helps identify areas that require reinforcement, redesign, or additional support. Retrofitting ensures that older facilities can withstand seismic events and meet modern safety requirements.
Mitigation Strategies: Seismic engineering design doesn't only focus on evaluating existing conditions but also includes the development of mitigation strategies. These strategies may involve the use of seismic expansion joints, dampers, or flexible connectors to absorb seismic energy and reduce stress on the piping systems.
Emergency Response Planning: In the event of a seismic event, having a well-designed piping system is crucial for quick recovery and minimizing damage. Seismic engineering design contributes to emergency response planning by ensuring that piping systems are less likely to rupture or leak during an earthquake, reducing potential hazards and environmental damage.
In summary, seismic engineering design is vital for piping stress analysis because it ensures the safety, compliance, and resilience of piping systems in the face of seismic events. It helps identify vulnerabilities, optimize designs, and implement mitigation measures, ultimately safeguarding industrial facilities and the surrounding environment during earthquakes.

ACT XI
“I do not know where to draw that line anymore,” his deep voice held raw honesty. “I seem to have lost control entirely.” His thumbs caressed the back of your hand and your heart threatened to jump out of your chest. “How about you draw it this time. Please tell me where to stand.”
The words the king had uttered were such a simple request.
You knew what you should say. Your mind had already formulated the most appropriate response. Keep it cordial, know your place. A puppet queen, a mock mother.
As much as the words made you wince, they were true. That was the place you had been learning to find, the entire reason for your presence in this palace. This would be what the king had wanted from the beginning right? Someone to do just what needed to be done.
But no matter how much you understood this, your heart protested the outcome. From the depths of your being, you knew that doing the 'proper' thing would only leave you miserable. Despite yourself, you had started to want more. Yearn for more. More of the responsibility, more of this kingdom, more of him. Playing pretend just would not do anymore.
So you lifted your joint hands to your lips, kissing the king’s knuckles. More brazen than you had ever imagined you could be with him.
“I want no line,” you spoke against his skin, and watched his eyes widen. Was it too much to ask? Your mind raced. Had you broken what little was left of this precarious partnership?
Tumblr media
Shocked was understatement. Nanami was utterly stunned. He thought his ears betrayed him, lips slightly parted in surprise.
“Y/N,” he whispered after a few beats of silence, voice hoarse, unpolished. “Are you sure?”
“No line,” you repeated, “No uncertainties about where to cross. I want the real thing. I want my place here to be real.” your voice carried an unmistakable resolve.
Nanami nodded, eyes fixed on your joint hands. He had asked you what you wanted, and you had been honest. And like the upright man he was, he would honor your request. He owed it to you.
But the illusion of duty was slowly fading into the background. The degree to which your request pleased him was not something that escaped him. He wanted this. Taking in a deep breath, he confronted the fact. He really wanted this. And somehow you had invited him in.
The man brought your joint hands to his own lips, kissing where your lips had just been. A silent vow, a sacred agreement.
“Very well, Y/N,” he dropped them gently, hand finding the curve of your cheek. Moving with a shakiness that betrayed the tsunami of emotions held within, he pulled you to him, close enough to feel his breath fanning against your face and yours stuttering. “No line, right?” So many words left unsaid. You wanted the whole thing, right? You wanted him, right?
Your own body shook, eyes fleeting from his lips to his eyes. His own heart threatened to break through the cage of his chest at the action.
The proximity made every circuit in your mind go haywire. His hand on your jaw, the other on your waist. His breath mingling with yours. You wanted all of this. All of him. You nodded, a final confirmation, unable to formulate any more words.
And with that, Nanami brought his lips to yours.
The kiss was neither advance nor conquest. Neither meant to be ravishing nor demanding. His lips moved with too much softness, too much restraint. Still, the delicate brush of his lips against yours made a tingle travel through your entire body. Simply electrifying. Your eyes fluttered close, leaning into him. You wanted more. Your hands found his shoulders, an anchor to press yourself closer. Chest to chest, you felt his breath grow heavier. You molded your soft lips harder against his, and he finally conceded, granting you his own fervor.
His tongue swiped against your bottom lip, and you felt your knees grow weak, taken in the torrent of sensations and emotions. His body, solid like an oak held your weight. The scent of amber filled your senses. The smoothness of the silk of your dress glided under his fingers. He tightened the hand around your waist, needing you even closer. The feel of you, the scent of you.
After what felt like a mere blink of an eye, you parted, sharing in each other’s air as your chests heaved, chasing after your breaths. Senses alight from the moment exchanged. He watched your lips, entranced by the sheen gloss covering them. By everything about you.
The thoughts of duty and propriety had all but vanished, replaced by an unadulterated want to never be parted. He wanted to go in for another kiss. To taste you, open and willing. But he stopped himself, taking in deep breaths. He did not want to push.
“No line,” you repeated, eyes focused on his. You needed to hear him say it. That this commitment would be real. His fingers slipped from your cheek to the curve of your jaw, tilting your chin up. Staring into the depth of your eyes, he breathed. “No line.”
No more tiptoeing. Only openness, only honesty. This was what this partnership, this marriage would operate on from now on. Such was the agreement, and though the prospect terrified the broken part of him, Nanami’s heart welcomed it eagerly. You were no puppet queen, no mock mother. You were real.
His queen. His wife. And you were deserving of everything he could give to you, even if that was himself.
This was my first time writing a kiss scene like this, so I hope it wasn't too awkward...
