"JUDGE DENOUNCES HIS ACCUSERS," Kingston Whig-Standard. October 5, 1932. Page 13. --- Declares They Are Trying to "Frame Him"-To Conduct Defence ---- WINNIPEG, Oct. 5. - Charging that his accusers themselves should be under criminal indictment, Judge L. S. G. Stubbs, county judge, came to bat with another furious denunciation of those he claims are trying to "frame" him in the investigation ordered by the Federal Government.
Suggesting that the Government charge an admission to the trial, and asserting that he will conduct his own defense, because he thinks no lawyer he would retain could be depended upon to ask the questions he proposes to advance, he says in a signed statement: "Many of my friends are worrying that the political lynching which has been jointly planned for me by the politicians in power at Winnipeg and Ottawa will take place in camera. Some organizations have even paid me the left-handed compliment of petioning that I be tried in public and not in private. There need be no fears on that score. There will be no star chamber for me; my frameup will be exposed in the most public manner possible.
"My accusers are men who ought themselves to be under criminal indictment, men who obtained nothing less than the government of this province by fraud and through false pretenses - men under whose governance and responsibility our fair province has been converted into a stink-pot."

Raging Alcoholic Mrs. Cole raises Tom Riddle
Mrs. Cole likes Tom Riddle. He's the only kid in the orphanage that hates children just as much as she does.
A great read starring Mrs. Cole and Tom Riddle. The best Mrs. Cole in fan fiction - I laughed so much at the ending!!
Preview:
Another thing that Mrs. Cole hates more than crying children is animals. Rabbits are ugly and weird creatures that have no place near an orphanage.
Billy Stubbs’ mother, that Soho resident who’s given up her child out of perfectly reasonable reasons that are harshly judged by society because of her sex, has given her son a bunny to pet and take care of. Mrs. Cole would rather the woman have given him money. Doesn’t she understand how expensive these children are? The priorities of some people!
Tom Riddle isn’t allowed anywhere near the bunny and he looks very angry to be singled out. As if the boy will hurt the damned thing. He’s outgrown hurting animals and has his eyes set on people. Can a snake eat a rabbit? Though, that would be a waste of perfectly cookable meat. Mrs. Cole’s got a plan in store for Stubbs. That boy is beginning to undermine her authority and she refuses to have that.
Very briefly, Mrs. Cole looks at Tom, and then glances to the rabbit. He glances over to the rabbit himself and a thoughtful expression crosses over his face.
If Tom Riddle gets Stubbs knocked down a few pegs finally, she’s going to owe the boy and do so willingly.
xxx
Mrs. Cole thinks that hanging the rabbit off of the rafters is just a tad too much, but she won’t complain about the boy’s effective methods.
Billy is absolutely traumatized. Good. He falls in line finally.
Mrs. Cole waits for Tom to come to her for a favour. He doesn’t. Even better.
‘Mrs. Cole, what are we having for lunch tomorrow?’’
‘’Rabbit stew.’’
Billy Stubbs’ lip trembles. Tom Riddle is back on the top of the hierarchy. It’s about damn time.

Title: I Write What I Like: Selected Writings Author: Steve Biko Publication Year of Edition: 2002 Publisher: University of Chicago Press Genre: nonfiction, essays, history
Overall, this was a really thought-provoking collection of writings and thoughts from South African anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko, who I didn’t know anything about until I was recommended to check this book out by a friend. Biko’s thoughts on racism and colonization are specifically within the context of South Africa, and I found them not only informative but also saw resonances of what he was discussing in US history and politics. What I found really eye-opening and relevant to this day was his discussion on white liberals, particularly their vision of a “non-racial” society being deeply flawed and problematic. This collection also provides insight into Biko’s philosophy about Black Consciousness (the term stemming from Du Bois’s concept of double consciousness), which was deeply informed by postcolonial thinkers such as Fanon and Césaire. The Black Consciousness Movement (BCM), founded by Biko, pushed for Black liberation, which he saw not only as a fight for systemic change but also a psychological change within Black people themselves (which, in essence, read to me as decolonizing one’s mind). I think Biko’s charisma really came through in the transcripts of Biko’s responses to the judge and the defense attorney while on trial; it was kind of awe-inspiring to see “in action” how eloquent and articulate he was, on top of the fact that he was only in his twenties. I will say one critique I do have (and this was noted in the foreword) is the noticeable absence of feminism in Biko’s ideology. It would have been interesting to have gotten some insight as to why he didn’t find it important enough to include in BCM.
This collection does get a little repetitive, though I imagine this was not meant to be read from front to back in a matter of days. In the edition I read, there was also a memoir at the end by Father Aelred Stubbs, though I’ll fully admit that I skimmed through it, since I was more interested in Biko’s writings. This was a really informative read, though, and it has inspired me to look for more works by African activists and thinkers such as Biko.
Content Warning: racism and colonization

“Why,” said Stubb, eyeing the velvet vest and the watch and seals, “you may as well begin by telling him that he looks a sort of babyish to me, though I don’t pretend to be a judge.”
Stubb, shut the fuck up.

October 2023 New Works Round Up
Happy Sunday, everybody! It’s our inaugural new works round-up post, a mere two days after the soft deadline. Let’s do a round up of all the works posted to the collection so far* 🥳
*by Saturday night, when I drafted and scheduled this post.
AO3 | All works | Ask box
New works, in no particular order (link in titles):
spit it out on three by pamlipsestic | Oakland A’s, San Francisco Giants | Zack Gelof/Casey Schmitt
It was in the scouting report, and even if it hadn’t been, the neon yellow custom sliding mitt would've given it right away.
FIX ME A BLUE SKY by hualuo (baiyunli) | Philadelphia Phillies | Bryson Stott/Trea Turner
“Right,” says Trea, feeling like he missed several steps. You’re gonna be good,” promises Stott. “You’re Trea fucking Turner.” He squeezes Trea’s shoulder again, tips the bill of his cap down like he’s letting him in on a secret. His eyes brim with it, crescent moons shot through in hazel. “And call me Bryson, okay?” Trea Turner, on things (and people) he can't control.
our bodies to bargain by sorrellegiance | San Francisco Giants | Sean Manaea & Blake Sabol | neocities
This is a comic about places and going to them!
step by step by glowfruit | New York Yankees | Aaron Judge/Anthony Rizzo
Aaron's simple request for Anthony to teach him how to cook is not as simple as he might think.
what you want, what you got by powderblu (bluspirits) | Philadelphia Phillies | Brandon Marsh/ Bryson Stott
So yeah, Bryson is a gift giver. That's about the only explanation he can come up with for what's in front of him. Or: courting rituals, daycare edition
we all end in the ocean by Anonymous | New York Mets | Francisco Alvarez/Brett Baty
“Why don’t you come over here for a second,” Eduardo frowned, cringing as he approached Brett. The injury must have horribly deformed him, or something. I’m fine, you don’t need to carry me, he’d wanted to complain, but it was like Brett weighed nothing at all, and no matter how much he kicked and squirmed, Eduardo didn’t falter, carrying him over to the sink. What the fuck? In the mirror, staring back at him, was an orange cat. Eduardo raised Brett’s arm and waved. The cat waved back. Brett let out an ear-splitting scream and the cat in the mirror screamed back, fur puffed up all over. animal transformation au: baseball magic is real and the rays are petty
Unbuttoned by powerblu (bluspirits) | Philadelphia Phillies | Bryce Harper/Trea Turner
Bryce had always told him he'd look good in a Phillies jersey. Now that Trea's on the team, it's time to prove he meant it.
all play no skips by powerblu (bluspirits) | Philadelphia Phillies | Garrett Stubbs/J.T. Realmuto
Some people would refer to what he has going on right now as 'intangibles'.
If I’m not my body by planesandtrainingwheels | Toronto Blue Jays | Danny Jansen/Jordan Romano
He catches sight of the beginnings of a bruise that promises to be ugly tomorrow morning stretching across Danny’s thigh. “You’re insane,” he says appreciatively. Something in him itches to put his hands on it, to brush across the tender purple skin with his fingers - which isn’t a thought he’s ever had before. Oh boy. Danny grins. “Anything for you, Romy.” Or, Jordan Romano, Danny Jansen, and the mortifying ordeal.
The next round-up post will be posted sometime on Sunday, November 12, so if you need a new deadline, aim for the North American morning of November 11.
Under the cut: October Challenges for readers and creators + 3 questions for creators (for your WIPs or completed works) and a bonus side quest for readers!
October Challenge for readers: Before the November post, comment on THREE works you haven’t commented on yet! If you’ve commented on them all already….king shit, because it’s been two days. Go get a boba to celebrate and watch some postseason baseball.
Bonus Readers Side Quest: If the creator of the work allows it, create a moodboard for one of the works you enjoyed and post it on Tumblr. Tag @timebegins-onopeningday so that I can reblog and of course make sure you link to the work and tell the author too!
October Challenge for creators: Every week until the November post (on the 12th), do the following:
Writers, add FIVE sentences to your work.
Artists, spend FIFTEEN MINUTES on your work.
Podfic? Five minutes of editing or ten minutes of recording. Something else I’m not thinking of? Adjust accordingly to your medium.
Creator Questions: Answer in the notes, send an ask, or just post on your blog and tag @timebegins-onopeningday!
Which player in the work inspired you to put them in the boba shaker of baseball rpf and why?
What is one thing you want everyone to know about your work that didn’t (or won’t) make it into the final work?
Without spoiling anything, what part of your work are you most excited for people to experience?
That’s it for this month! I hope you all enjoy the works that have been posted - I’m still making my way through them, but I’m loving what I’ve read so far. Remember to leave comments if you read, and to treat yourself kindly as you create.
As always, ask box is open and anon is on. I can also be reached at rpfisfine@/gmail.com 🌞

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Black former delivery driver in Mississippi who says two white men shot into his work van and then pursued him in a high-speed chase last year has filed a new lawsuit against the men and his former employer, FedEx.
This is the second civil suit on behalf of D'Monterrio Gibson, and it seeks at least $5 million. The two men were tried for attempted murder and other charges but a judge declared a mistrial this summer.
Gibson was not wounded during the encounter on Jan. 24, 2022, in Brookhaven, about an hour’s drive south of Jackson. FedEx made him return to work on the same route, and that caused him to have “depression, stress, anxiety, loss of sleep, and emotional pain and suffering,” according to the lawsuit. It was filed by attorney Carlos Moore on Nov. 20 in state court.
FedEx spokesperson Austin Kemker said in a statement Wednesday to The Associated Press: “Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees. FedEx denies the allegations and will vigorously defend the lawsuit.”
In August, a federal judge dismissed a separate $5 million lawsuit Moore filed on behalf of Gibson against FedEx, the city of Brookhaven, the police chief and the two men: Brandon Case and his father Gregory Case.
“The Cases’ alleged conduct is deplorable," U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan wrote. "But Gibson fails to state a viable claim against FedEx for which the Court would have original jurisdiction.”
Brandon Case and Gregory Case are charged with attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy and shooting into the vehicle driven by Gibson, which did not have a FedEx logo.
In August, state Circuit Judge David Strong cited police errors as he declared a mistrial in the criminal case of the father and son after days of jury selection and testimony. A detective testified about failing to give prosecutors and defense attorneys a copy of a videotaped police interview with Gibson.
Prosecutors said they intend to set a new date for the criminal trial, but court records show that has not been done. The two men remain out on bond.
Days after the mistrial, FedEx fired Gibson because he did not accept a part-time, non-courier job that the company offered him, Moore said. Gibson said he had been in therapy and on worker’s compensation leave, at about one-third of his pay, since shortly after the attack.
Gibson was making FedEx deliveries in a van with the Hertz rental car company logo on three sides. After Gibson left a package at a home on a dead-end public road, Gregory Case used a pickup truck to try to block the van and Brandon Case came outside with a gun, District Attorney Dee Bates said.
As Gibson drove the van around the pickup truck, shots were fired, with three rounds hitting the van and some of the packages inside, Bates said.
A lawyer for Gregory Case, the father, told jurors that his client saw a van outside his mother-in-law’s unoccupied home and went to check what was happening. Gregory Case wanted to ask the van driver what was going on, but the driver did not stop, attorney Terrell Stubbs said.
The sun had already gone down. “It was completely dark, completely dark, and somebody was in the wrong place,” Stubbs said. “It wasn’t my client.”

Peter Stubb (d. 1589) - German man accused of being a murdering sorcerer and werewolf.
Peter Stubb (also given as Stubbe, Stube, and Stumpf, and as Stubbe Peeter), of Bedbur, Germany, gained notoriety for making a lurid confession. An illustrated account of his trial and grisly execution is at the Lambeth Palace Library in London.
According to Stubb's confession, he had practiced the "wicked arts" from the age of 12. He had from early childhood had an evil bent, and began dabbling in magic, sorcery, and necromancy. The devil gave him a magic girdle (belt) that enabled him to change into a wolf, and promised him that in exchange for wreaking evil in animal form, he would be protected from danger. When Stubb put on the girdle, he was:
...transformed into the likeness of a greedy, devouring wolf, strong and mighty, with eyes great and large, which in the night sparkled like brands of fire; a mouth great and wide, with most sharp and cruel teeth; a huge body and mighty paws.
By taking the belt off, he returned to the shape of a man. Stubb spent the next 25 years stalking victims, both human and animal, as a werewolf. He would walk about the areas of Bedbur, Collin, and Cperadt as a nicely dressed man, looking for victims. When he could catch them unawares, he changed into a wolf and attacked and murdered them. He sexually assaulted maidens before tearing them apart.
Stubb terrorized the countryside at night, attacking children, women, men, lambs, sheep, and goats. He was an "insatiable bloodsucker," taking great pleasure in killing. He killed lambs, kids, and other livestock, devouring them raw and bloody.
Over the course of a few years, Stubb murdered 13 young children and two pregnant women. He tore the fetuses out of the women's wombs and "ate their hearts panting hot and raw," which he said were "dainty morsels."
Stubb also confessed to an insatiable sexual appetite. He committed incest with his daughter, Beell (Bell), who had a child by him. He carried on sexual escapades with various mistresses, including a "gossip," Katherine Trompin. Still his lust remained unsated, so the devil sent him a succubus in the form of an angellike, beautiful woman.
Meanwhile, the townspeople did not suspect him. When the limbs and body parts of adults and children were found in the fields, it was believed that a savage wolf was responsible. Stubb finally was exposed when hunters chased him down in wolf form, and he slipped off his belt and was recognized.
Stubb was arrested and brought to trial at Bedbur. He was put on the rack. Fearing the torture, he quickly made a contession. A search was made for his magical girdle, but it was never found. It was assumed that the devil had spirited the evidence away.
Stubb named Bell and Trompin as accessories to some of his murders. The two women were arraigned. All three were found guilty on October 28, 1589, and were condemned to death. The sentences were carried out on October 31:
Stubbe Peeter as principal malefactor, was judged first to have his body laid on a wheel, and with red hot burning pincers in ten places to have the flesh pulled off from the bones, after that, his legs and arms to be broken with a wooden axe or hatchet, afterward to have his head struck from his body, then to have his carcass burned to ashes.
Also his daughter and his gossip were judged to be burned quick to ashes, the same time and day with the carcass of the aforesaid Stubbe Peeter.
After the executions, the magistrates of Bedbur constructed a warning to others. The wheel on which Stubb was broken was placed on a high sharpened pole and above it was fastened a likeness of a wolf in wooden frame. Sixteen yard-long pieces of wood, representing the 16 known victims of Stubb, were hung on the wheel. Stubb's head was stuck onto the pole.

What are your favorite Moby Dick's Quotes?
There is a wisdom that is woe; but there is a woe that is madness. And there is a Catskill eagle in some souls that can alike dive down into the blackest gorges, and soar out of them again and become invisible in the sunny spaces. And even if he for ever flies within the gorge, that gorge is in the mountains; so that even in his lowest swoop the mountain eagle is still higher than other birds upon the plain, even though they soar.
--
"Cursed be that mortal inter-indebtedness which will not do away with ledgers. I would be free as air; and I'm down in the whole world's books. I am so rich, I could have given bid for bid with the wealthiest Praetorians at the auction of the Roman empire (which was the world's); and yet I owe for the flesh in the tongue I brag with. By heavens! I'll get a crucible, and into it, and dissolve myself down to one small, compendious vertebra."
--
"Well, well, well! Stubb knows him best of all, and Stubb always says he's queer; says nothing but that one sufficient little word queer; he's queer, says Stubb; he's queer—queer, queer; and keeps dinning it into Mr. Starbuck all the time—queer, Sir—queer, queer, very queer."
--
It was a clear steel-blue day. The firmaments of air and sea were hardly separable in that all-pervading azure; only, the pensive air was transparently pure and soft, with a woman's look, and the robust and man-like sea heaved with long, strong, lingering swells, as Samson's chest in his sleep.
Hither, and thither, on high, glided the snow-white wings of small, unspeckled birds; these were the gentle thoughts of the feminine air; but to and fro in the deeps, far down in the bottomless blue, rushed mighty leviathans, sword-fish, and sharks; and these were the strong, troubled, murderous thinkings of the masculine sea.
But though thus contrasting within, the contrast was only in shades and shadows without; those two seemed one; it was only the sex, as it were, that distinguished them.
Aloft, like a royal czar and king, the sun seemed giving this gentle air to this bold and rolling sea; even as bride to groom. And at the girdling line of the horizon, a soft and tremulous motion—most seen here at the Equator—denoted the fond, throbbing trust, the loving alarms, with which the poor bride gave her bosom away.
Tied up and twisted; gnarled and knotted with wrinkles; haggardly firm and unyielding; his eyes glowing like coals, that still glow in the ashes of ruin; untottering Ahab stood forth in the clearness of the morn; lifting his splintered helmet of a brow to the fair girl's forehead of heaven.
--
"What is it, what nameless, inscrutable, unearthly thing is it; what cozzening, hidden lord and master, and cruel, remorseless emperor commands me; that against all natural lovings and longings, I so keep pushing, and crowding, and jamming myself on all the time; recklessly making me ready to do what in my own proper, natural heart, I durst not so much as dare? Is Ahab, Ahab? Is it I, God, or who, that lifts this arm? But if the great sun move not of himself; but is as an errand-boy in heaven; nor one single star can revolve, but by some invisible power; how then can this one small heart beat; this one small brain think thoughts; unless God does that beating, does that thinking, does that living, and not I. By heaven, man, we are turned round and round in this world, like yonder windlass, and Fate is the handspike. And all the time, lo! that smiling sky, and this unsounded sea! Look! see yon Albicore! who put it into him to chase and fang that flying-fish? Where do murderers go, man! Who's to doom, when the judge himself is dragged to the bar? But it is a mild, mild wind, and a mild looking sky; and the air smells now, as if it blew from a far-away meadow; they have been making hay somewhere under the slopes of the Andes, Starbuck, and the mowers are sleeping among the new-mown hay. Sleeping? Aye, toil we how we may, we all sleep at last on the field. Sleep? Aye, and rust amid greenness; as last year's scythes flung down, and left in the half-cut swaths—Starbuck!"

Westworld 4x08 : Que sera sera
Alert spoilers
...
...
...
They fail. They completely fail. Like, they suceed to get the best failure, but it's still a fail : the world that OG Dolores wanted, where humans and hosts could coexist, can't happen anymore. Or it can but only in the Sublime. Or maybe not ?
-First, Maeve isn't back ?! Like, okay, it's logical : ot would be giving too much credit to Charlores to hope she brought her back, and anyway, if Maeve was back, it would probably to die in this episode. It's better if she comes back in next season. I think they need characters in the real world actually, Caleb and Frankie are still there. But if the last episode was really the last we see of Maeve, I would be really disappointed : look at how the deaths of OG Dolores in season 3, Bernard and Charlores were sacralised, with music and emotion, concluding well their characters arcs, and tell that if she really dies, Maeve, who is an as much important character than them, doesn't desserve the same treatment and not being shot in the head by surprise.
-Clementine, Clementine, Clementine...can someone explain me the point of this character : like, she's first a host in the park, then Wyatt's pawn, then Charlotte Hale's pawn, then Maeve's friend but truly this time, then Charlores's pawn, and she's finally free, only to be an obstacle in Caleb and Frankie's way and only the years she spent with Charlores seem to count. Her relationship with Maeve doesn't even count, and actually it's correct because they were friends only in lifes imposed by humans. She's just a plot device actually ? If it's that, fine, but I don't understand why there's so much focus on her.
-NOOOOO STUBBS ! I know that Bernard said he wasn't going to survive, but i hoped that, maybe, Bernard lied because he was the one who was going to die and he couldn't say it to Stubbs. Well, maybe Stubbs' pearl hasn't been destroyed, if Charlores survived because William didn't shoot her precisely on the center of her head, Stubbs shouldn't be dead because Clementine opened his head by his eye. But Bernard said it was the end for him...but he said the same to Maeve and I think the writers need characters in the real world, so let's see in next season.
-Let's talk a little about Frankie and Caleb's surviving : it's useless. Like, if the real world is really meant to be abandoned, we actually don't care to know if Frankie is going to survive, the only important thing is to know if Charlores is going to stop William. We could see the last scene, so we would know that Frankie got a "happy ending", but spending so much time on them ? And the point of not seeing Caleb dying ? I think, before collapsing, he's the one who'll bring Maeve back next season. And I think that these characters, who stayed in the real world, have still a role to play for the last test, and for the new world. Dolores judged the Sublime as a golden cage in season 2, so I don't think it is the next world.
-Charlores has been my favourite character this season : her tragic (and, well, desserved) end is, in my opinion, as suceed as OG Dolores' end at the end of season 3. After trying to build the best world for her kind while not even knowing what is good for her, she realized how she messed up everything, creating a world in which extinction is the only possible ending, and she accepts to play her last role, to do the last thing she can do for her kind, before ending her life because she's not the one who can build the world she wanted. That's really the version of Dolores who got the most tragic story. I especially love the moment where she told host!William that he's not William, even if he imitated him and lived in his body, because that's the same for her : even if she imitated Charlotte Hale and lived in her body, she still is more Dolores than Hale, and we can see it in this episode.
-And Christina...I don't understand. Like, I understand how she was in the world, I understand that she got a travel to consciousness like Dolores did in season 1, speaking to herself with characters of her own creation before understanding it was her own voice. But I don't understand...is she OG Dolores ? The fact that she had her own travel to consciousness, different of OG Dolores' own travel, and reached a different conclusion (while OG Dolores concluded that humanity should be destroyed, and even of she redeemed herself after, it was too late because she had created Charlores and doomed the world, Christina, despite of Teddy's instances, actually her own instances, wants to gives humanity a last chance, a last test, which gives hope for the future) implies that she is not OG Dolores, but another version who started at the beginning and followed a new path, but the facts that Charlores called her Dolores and that Christina said she remembered everything implies that she is OG Dolores. But in this case, how ? OG Dolores' data were erased. Is Christina's pearl OG Dolores's pearl ? I feel like we don't get answers. But Christina has a new game...I think it's fidelity test, and it connects the dots with the season 2 post-credits scene : if William can "change his code", then everyone can.
-You could think that I'm complaining about this episode, but I really enjoyed it, and I enjoyed all the season. The situation of season 2 inversed with the hosts reacting to the humans becoming crazy was great and fun, this season is actually the first which made me ship Dolores and Teddy (wait, it wasn't actually Teddy, did I ship selfcest ?), the fight between Charlores and the man in Black was great, the scenes between Frankie and Caleb were touching. But. This season feels more like a defeat in order to prepare the victory at the end of the show, in season 5. And I really want to see it. So please HBO, renew Westworld for a fifth season.

youre feeling queasy :(
i looked some facts up (which you probably already know, but i'll try to give you a variety)
The stage before frostbite is known as “frostnip.”
You can buy a flying bicycle.
McDonald's introduced drive-through service due to the military.
Pigs don't sweat. (WHAT) okay this one deserves an explanation
If someone tells you they're "sweating like a pig" you might want to point out to them (if you're that sort of person) that if they were being biologically accurate, that would mean they were not sweating at all. Swine are born without sweat glands, so when they need to cool off, their only option tends to be to find a cool puddle of mud in which they can roll around.
There's a LEGO bridge in Germany that you can walk across.
Umbrellas were once only used by women.
For 20 years, a cat served as mayor of an Alaskan town. In 1997, an orange cat names Stubbs became honorary mayor of the Alaskan town of Talkeetna. With a population of 772 in 2000, it would not have taken too many votes to earn the position (and the small town did not actually have a real, human mayor. anyway), but Stubbs proved adept at the role, gaining fans from around the world and "serving" in the position for years, greeting tourists and becoming a beloved symbol of the town until his death in 2017.
Squirrels are behind most power outages in the U.S. The APPA even developed a data tracker called "The Squirrel Index" that analyzes the patterns and timing of squirrels' impact on electrical power systems. Turns out, the peak times of the year for squirrel attacks are from May to June and October to November.
Spider webs were used as bandages in ancient times. (what.) Spider webs supposedly have natural antiseptic and anti-fungal properties, which can help keep wounds clean and prevent infection. It's also said that spider webs are rich in vitamin K, which helps promote clotting. So, next time you're out of Band-Aids, just head to your attic and grab some "webicillin."
One quarter of all your bones are located in your feet.
You're more likely to get a computer virus from visiting religious sites than porn sites. (holy shit lmfaoooo)
Sunglasses were originally designed for Chinese judges to hide their facial expressions in court. Today, sunglasses serve as protective eyewear, effectively preventing bright sunlight from causing discomfort or damage to our eyes. Of course, they're also a fashion accessory. But sunglasses were originally made out of smoky quartz in 12th century China, where they were used by judges to mask their emotions when they were questioning witnesses.
Cotton candy was invented by a dentist. (COTTON CANDY WAS WHAT) IT WAS CALLED FAIRY FLOSS AT 1ST
Shakespeare's epitaph contains a curse for grave robbers. (i-) "GOOD FREND FOR IESVS SAKE FORBEARE / TO DIGG THE DVST ENCLOASED HEARE / BLESTe BE Ye MAN Yt SPARES THES STONES / AND CVRST BE HE Yt MOVES MY BONES." Or more clearly: "Good friend, for Jesus' sake forbear / To dig the dust enclosed here / Blessed be the man that spares these stones / And cursed be he that moves my bones."
Children of identical twins are genetically siblings, not cousins.
It would only take one hour to drive to space. (bruh)
OKAY MORE LATER BC IM SLEEPY BUT I HOPE YOU DIDNT KNOW ABOUT SOME OF THESE i hope you feel better soon<333
also. i went looking for these, and theyre so interesting! im probably gonna look for more weird/amazing facts from now on because of you
THANK YOU THANK YOU ALL I KNEW IS THE SPACE ONE I LOVE THESEEEE

Savon Sanomat is among the morning's papers carrying an STT news agency report that in terms of media coverage, Pekka Haavisto (who is a Green MP but running as an independent) and Alexander Stubb (NCP) are leading the pack of candidates in Finland's upcoming presidential elections.
An analysis of more than 14,400 articles by the media monitoring company Retriever found that Haavisto had almost 4,300 mentions in the domestic media during the review period from the beginning of September to Tuesday of this week.
Stubb registered just 120 fewer mentions.
Current Speaker of Parliament Jussi Halla-aho (Finns) ranked third in terms of the number of media mentions. Immediately behind him was Mika Aaltola, an independent.
"The visibility of Halla-aho, who ranked third, has been boosted not only by publicity about the presidential election, but also by statements related to parliamentary work and party politics. It is interesting that Aaltola, who has lost support in the polls, reached as high as fourth in terms of media visibility," Retriever media analyst Pilvi Bisi was quoted as saying.
The president's job
An editorial in Thursday's Aamulehti points out that the powers of the President of Finland have been narrowed over the few past decades by shifting more authority to parliament and the government.
The paper writes that it is a good thing that power is not too concentrated in any single organ of state.
When times were even better in Finland it was even considered whether the entire institution of the presidency was completely irrelevant, Aamulehti continues. This is something that has not been heard in the ongoing presidential election campaign, it notes, adding that there is no doubt that the president's role is vital for Finland today.
As the paper reminds readers, the president is the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, manages foreign policy in tandem with the government, represents Finland at Nato summits, as well as appoints certain high office holders and judges.
However, in Aamulehti's words, "The most important task of our future president is to keep Finland on the world map."
It stresses the importance of what kind of image of Finland the president gives to the world and what kind of relations the president succeeds in creating and maintaining with the world's powers.
Also, Aamulehti expects that Finland's next president will have a significant role to play within Nato, as the Nordic countries rise to a brand new strategically important position on the world map.
And, although the president does not actively engage in domestic politics, in the current world situation, the president represents to many what the paper describes as a "trusted influencer" fully dedicated to promoting Finland's interests.
"The job is not easy and people's expectations are high. That's clear," writes Aamulehti.
More asylum applications
A number of people who entered Finland without valid travel documents this autumn, but declined to apply for asylum, have now done so, reports Ilta-Sanomat.
In November, some of the people who arrived at the Vartius border crossing without the required documents did not apply for asylum at that time. Now the situation has changed.
Major Timo Keinonen, the deputy commander of the Kainuu Border Guard, told the paper on Wednesday that almost all of the migrants who crossed the border at the Vartius checkpoint in November have now asked for asylum in Finland. Keinonen added that the lack of clarity about the situation was most likely related to a language barrier.
As Ilta-Sanomat notes, any of the arrivals from Russia who did not have the documents required for entry, and do not apply for asylum, can be returned either to Russia or to their original country of origin.
Popular neighbourhoods
Helsingin Sanomat looks at which parts of the capital region are most attractive to home buyers based on reactions to listings on the Oikotie online real estate service.
The service, which claims more than one million users a week says that the most popular areas in the capital region are currently Lauttasaari in Helsinki, Tapiola in Espoo and Tikkurila in Vantaa.
The top ten most popular neighbourhoods in the capital itself are Lauttasaari, Töölö, Munkkiniemi, Ullanlinna, Kallio, Oulunkylä, Laajasalo, Vuosaari, Kruununhaka, and Punavuori.
Falling housing prices have been most clearly seen in Helsinki's Ullanlinna, where average square metre prices were more than 10 percent lower in the first half of this year than last year, according to Oikotie.
Chilly start to the new year
Iltalehti reports that longer-term weather forecasts indicate that 2024 will kick off with plenty of snow and below average cold temperatures.
Foreca meteorologist Joanna Rinne told the paper that although day-to-day and week-to-week variations are still uncertain, it looks like the whole of January will be colder than usual, and that some really bone-chilling sub-zero temperatures are a possibility, especially in the north of the country.
