Spotted: The last round of arrivals from my Halloween party last night! Angelina channeling her inner Pam Anderson for her costume. Jasper showing up as Ken from the amazing Barbie movie. Elijah matching his wife as Fred from Scooby Doo. Max also showing up as a cowoy. I'm seeing a trend here and I'm kinda bothered by it. Since when are cowboys in? Carmen showing up as Ghostface from the Scream movies and I love it. We love a killer queen. Aurora showing up as a taco. Not sure if she's supposed to match her big sister, Frankie or if she just wanted to dress as a taco, but you know what? I'm not complaing, it's different. Amber dressing up as a sexy Rapunzel and good for her! Now that she's single, she can finally have fun. JC showing up in some royal clothing and we're glad that she's finally remembering what a queen she is. Ivy, rounding out the looks as the amazing Carrie White from the horror movie, Carrie. We love it when queens dress as queens!

Flesh and Fantasy

One of the highlights of Julien Duvivier’s wartime stay in Hollywood was FLESH AND FANTASY (1943, only available on DVD), a collection of three tales of the supernatural imaginatively shot by Stanley Cortez and Paul Ivano. They’re not all of the same quality, and one of the best, a fourth segment starring Gloria Jean in a rare non-singing role, registered so well in previews, Universal turned it into a separate feature, (DESTINY, 1944). But the remaining stories look beautiful and the two good ones are so well played and written they more than make up for problems with the one weak link.

In a wraparound sequence added after the Gloria Jean segment was cut, clubman Robert Benchley is concerned about a bad dream, so acquaintance David Hoffman makes him read a trio of stories about dreams and prophecies. In the first (which opens with the discovery of a body meant to connect it to the original opening), bitter, homely seamstress Betty Field meets a mystery man (Edgar Barrier) who convinces her to wear a glamorous mask to attend Mardi Gras and tells her if she can get beyond self-hatred and learn the meaning of love, a miracle could happen. In the second, lawyer Edward G. Robinson is told by a palm reader (Thomas Mitchell) that he’s destined to commit murder. In the third, tightrope walker Charles Boyer dreams he falls to his death as a beautiful woman (Barbara Stanwyck) screams. Travelling by ship to a U.S. engagement, he meets and courts Stanwyck, not certain if their romance could spell his doom.

To get the bad news out of the way, the first segment, though the Mardi Gras setting gives Duvivier great staging opportunities, is the weakest. It’s grounded in a dated concept of beauty. Even as it proclaims inner beauty as superior to good looks, it perpetuates the idea that outer beauty is the key to success. In addition, Field’s true love turns out to be Robert Cummings, who’s pretty but seems to have no inner fire. Their scenes together play with his the only face you see. Field does good physical work and has great eyes in the closeups, but he’s just a big neutron star of acting. Robinson and Mitchell (not to mention Dame May Whitty, C. Aubrey Smith and Anna Lee) more than make up for it in the second segment. It’s not as deep as the Oscar Wilde story on which it's based, but their acting is first rate. And it’s great fun to see Robinson debating with reflections of himself as he tries to decide if and whom to kill. Boyer and Stanwyck are so good together in the third story, both experts at imbuing lines with depths of meaning, it’s a pity this is their only co-starring film. There’s a twist involving a second dream that comes true before the first but gives the two stars another opportunity to shine.

Duvivier ties the three stories together with a great deal of atmosphere, He has special fun staging scenes with the masked revelers in the first segment and the circus performers in the third. And throughout he plays with the theme of destiny, showing how — whether it’s in the form of fortune telling, a dream or a limiting sense of self — it’s a trap to be conquered. The film also has a surprising score, not at all Hollywood, by the great Polish composer, pianist and conductor Alexander Tansman, the first of a handful of film assignments he would tackle while spending the war years in the U.S. If you look closely, you’ll spot two other World War II refugees, Marcel Dalio and Peter Lawford, among the circus performers.

going from my deadname to my first chosen name was painless. but now that i've picked a new name three years later, even though i really like it and i'm 98% sure it's what i want to be called and my old chosen name hasn't felt 'right' for a while, i'm experiencing grief i didn't expect. the new name i've chosen feels way more fitting of who i am now. and that's ok. the old name served its purpose and i was happy being called that for a long time but now i've grown out of it. i guess in moving on from my deadname, i let go of what i never was, but now i'm saying goodbye to something i used to be that no longer serves me. it's like amicably drifting apart from an old friend. it's very bittersweet.

Spotted: Julien Calloway flying solo at one of the city's hottest parties. No boyfriend on her arm, no loyal crew by her side, and surprisingly, no little sister to play the part of her shadow. It’s rare to see JC without her entourage, and yet, there she was—standing tall in the center of it all, but somehow, completely on her own. Could our favorite queen bee be embracing a new phase? Or is she just drifting into the shadows?

This isn’t the first time she’s been spotted alone lately. Remember when we saw her shopping, seemingly in her own world, without the usual crowd of fans, followers, or friends? Back then, it felt like a rare moment of solitude, but now, two sightings in a row make us wonder—has Julien traded in the spotlight for some much-needed me time? It’s quite the shift for someone who used to own every room she walked into.

Now that she’s officially an adult, has the once-social butterfly matured enough to start valuing her own company over the noise of her old high school life? Maybe she’s realized that not everything needs to be shared with the world or splashed across social media. Could this be a sign that Julien is evolving, finding peace in being by herself rather than surrounded by a crowd? Or is something—or someone—missing from her life?

Still, a party without her friends or even a date? That’s a bold move. For someone like JC, who’s always thrived on connections and keeping the social scene buzzing, her absence from the inner circle can’t go unnoticed. Are we witnessing the start of a “loner” phase, or could Julien simply be distancing herself from the drama that used to define her? We all grow up eventually, but we didn’t expect it to look like this for Julien.

Whatever’s behind her solo appearances, one thing’s for sure: she’s still captivating all eyes, whether she’s surrounded by people or not. Her confident stride and effortless style scream that she’s in control—even if she’s walking this path alone. But we can’t help but wonder if she’s truly happy or if there’s something—or someone—missing from the picture.

So what’s the deal, flock? Is Julien turning into a lone wolf, or is she just enjoying some well-earned independence? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure—we’re not used to seeing our queen bee without her hive. Stay tuned, Upper East Siders.

she's exhausted and thanked all of the goddesses that her ex had their daughter for the night. she did a live stream on OF and some of the guys were pointing out her fucking cellulite. she didn't usually cry over things like that, but she was more than overstimulated tonight and she was soaking in a hot bath. when they walked into the bathroom, though, she sniffled and quickly wiped away her tears. " -- of course i have cellulite, i gave birth to another human, for chrissakes. people are so mean. that shit never usually bothers me, but tonight's different." she sunk lower into the water and gave them a tearful smile, "i'm sorry, i'm being a big baby tonight."

aylin sighed and she played with some of the flowers she'd put in the bathtub to help her relax a little bit. "can we just curl up in bed after this? do you wanna get in with me?" she asked suddenly and sat up, bringing her knees to her chest. she sniffled again and chewed on the inside of her cheek and smiled weakly with a shrug, "i don't mind either way. i love you regardless," she laughed and ran her hands over her face and rubbed at her scalp to try and help calm herself down.

Zak was moving slowly, it hurt to walk and it hurt to breathe. They did a good job clearing up the mess in the clubhouse, you could only partially tell several people just died there. "What is the problem, Julien?" He asked as he looked him in the eye, "I really don't like what you said. I get you are upset I didn't pick you but don't ever translate your shortfalls to someone else's success. Regardless of my relationship Oxana has been a part of this club, giving it its everything for years. May before you and me. And believe me, I thought about choosing someone else because I thought people would do exactly what you did, but then I realized I would only be hurting the whole club because she is going to do the damn most."

Yall I might write a small little short story of how the Ice Emperor’s eye got cracked but I go into more detail since I didn’t really go into major detail about it. Then next week it’s back to the C&M AU grind.

Note: There will probably be some heavy gore in the short story since my AU of the Ice Emperor is a little.. gruesome. so just a heads up for that!
