"Hey, Junhyeong Lee…" Bom doesn't much like talking to anyone from NEST if she doesn't have to. Junhyeong, however, is an exception- not because she has any particular fondness for him, but because he's been a double agent before. And as someone who's had to endure more than anyone should have to because of Pet Shop… well. She's got beef, to put it lightly.

"Whatever you might say to convince these NEST kids, I'm going to be watching what you do on this mission instead. If I think for one second you're turning tail back to Breeder…" The tip of her tail appears swiftly at his throat, tip glowing faintly pink. "I won't give you a second chance. We clear?"

Distrust. It wasn't exactly something he wasn't used to being confronted with. And despite his comrades having chosen to look past his transgressions in favor of giving him a chance at atonement, he wasn't exactly in a position to expect the same from someone who had no real connection to him whatsoever. He'd have been lying if he said her hostile approach wasn't somewhat frustrating.. But this was the kind of thing Lee just had to take on the chin.

And prove through actions, not words, that he wasn't that person anymore. When it came down to it, that was his only recourse.

         jinwoo couldn't help the amused smile that slipped across his face at the scene that was unfolding before him. the inky blackness in front of him, the boy that had stepped into the coliseum beside him. the sprawling expanse of the arena was familiar, though jinwoo noted that the damage his earlier fight had caused had already been repaired. swept aside to prepare for a new challenge. the one before him. or, them, the monarch supposed he should say. a flicker of his gaze settled upon the black-haired man beside him, head tilted curiously for just a moment. he seemed normal, all things considered, but that meant nothing here.

was thinking about bom earlier and how she's kind of the bad end amalgam of a lot of the NEST student cast. like:

huijin- a friend who was forced to consume, but never recovered and was killed

dohwa- was kidnapped by petshop, but had no one to save her in time and so she underwent consumption

junhyeong- had a friend kidnapped and forced to fight nest and was put in a coma rather than helped

suchan- ostracized for not agreeing with NEST's methods and doubted by the one friend she thought she could rely on to the point where they ended up enemies (the last part got better, at least)

on the upside, at least it showcases that going through bad things hasn't made her a bad person. a guarded one and one that tends to come off unyielding, but not bad. i really need them to give this girl a W though like i need her to beat breeder's ass john wick style—

" so damn bored .. " she missed group a .. she missed nest university .. she missed the class president, and hyeseong, suchan, and junhyeong. the booze parties, and everything else. it was always too quiet, even back at her assigned home. only one other person lived there, and they were .. well, she had yet to even meet them. however, dohwa was forcefully yanked from her thoughts as she heard a strange noise from nearby.

was that .. was that someone going into the swamp ? for a moment, she stares with an eyebrow drawing upward. for far too long, she must have stared, but she eventually broke the silence. " the hell .. ? " she stands at the edge of land, where the swamp and land met. unlike this strange person, she was remaining dry and not about to look like a fool. from her observation, they looked like they were searching. did they .. lose something ?

I kind of added some on my own as well lol, especially adding slightly more variety in body type in the main cast but specifically:

Suchan: gave him some compound eyes

Huijin: not a ton here, but I made her shorter than canon

Hyeseong: this man is TALL. This man is SKINTY. This man is ALL LEG.

Dohwa: give this girl some thighs p l e a s e. Also she gets braids because they kinda look like scorpion claws

Junhyeong: GIVE THIS MAN SOME CHONK and also he’s the tallest. Big spider

Daun: she’s a spidey now

I’m busy with felting so I don’t have any (good) sketches to show, but I have had ideas for extra bug traits for the other members of the cast, too:

Huijin: I feel like her hair should be her wing covers, since that’s what it’s supposed to be invoking. Like, it would still be hair-like and separate into strands at the bottom, but as it goes up it’s fused together into a glossy sheet. Maybe there’s also a pair of flightless but pretty vestigial wings, I don’t know. I’d definitely want to giver her ocelli as well– maybe next to her eyebrows or maybe just replacing them for a dot eyebrow look. Either way, could be covered with her hat and/or her bangs.

Hyeseong: I think he should have less human feet, like a proper insect tarsus. Makes him even taller and leggier and a bit digitigrade when he’s barefoot, but he can bend and squeeze them into a pair of shoes as well, which is what he usually does. He could also afford to have a bit more exoskeleton– I’m thinking a bit of spikiness on his forearm with a visible joint seam on his wrist. Some plating along his back and onto his neck as well. Like Huijin, it’s all things that his jacket would cover by default.

Dohwa: Not much I’ve thought about adding! I definitely think she’s missing some seriously pronounced canines, though.

Junhyeong: No more clean shaven birdeaters, put some hair on that beast. Some of his bristles follow a regular human body hair pattern, but it starts looking more like a short mane on his upper back and shoulders. The hair on the back of his head continues straight down his neck. It’s also pretty dense on his forearms, which is where he usually sheds them from in combat.

Daun: I want her to be a spidertaur– there’s so many that show up in the background and I want there to be one in the main class! It wouldn’t really effect her fighting style, and might actually help for her to have more points of contact with the ground. I also think this would be a fun way to heighten the contrasts between her and Hyeona’s designs.

Ji: I think his design should take a cue from the ant predator’s design– have his arm invoke a beetle’s abdomen. If it were me, I’d place the end of his abdomen at his wrist, with his fingers being like the beetle’s legs. Instead of the tattoo (though maybe it could just have its placement shifted) his arm would have that striking black-and-orange aposematism.
