It’s beautiful of you, however, he can’t very well enjoy his hunt if you fall to the local hoard. So, he dresses you up in furs and kisses you bloody. For the sake of the hunt. He’s making you a killer, a monster, and you can’t bring yourself to care when it feels so good <3

Zombie (?)!Idia that’s crazy. Irreversibly, monstrously insane. But he loves you- Just enough to keep you alive with his potions and shots. After you were infected, your senses only heightened. He keeps you tied down, much to his chagrin. It feels like a hospital, it reeks of him, his blood. He’s immune, a rarity in the hellhole you’re “living” through, but he wastes that gift on giving you a lifeline.. Wastes his time reteaching you to speak, wastes his pretty lips with suckling onto yours- You can’t reciprocate anymore, but you can feel. The passion. The desperation. And most of all, the hunger.. If you could only ask, he’d lay himself down and let you feast. He wants you to be happy. You’ve always been a good student, especially with a little motivation <3

I believe the only thing that has been officially confirmed on EN (as of this post) is that Ace had a girlfriend at one point--that is all!

Anything beyond this gets into speculation and theory (and JP-only content), But Cater certainly seems interesting!

*Note: Cater's literal compliment of Trey is very difficult to translate into English...it is not actually the word "handsome!" He is complimenting Trey for having a nice face and a cool smile, but trying to write it out literally becomes very odd in English, so I have used the word "handsome" just to get the general feeling across: he is complimenting Trey for being attractive :>

Cater does flirt with Trey during Playfulland, and it was not the first time!

Cater talks about dancing with Trey at Kalim's house and Trey is apparently such a common subject of Cater's Magicam account that he is teased for it by others.

Cater also compliments Trey during Firelit Sky (Trey stands awkwardly in the background, at first, apparently watching and listening as Malleus complimented Cater).

And Cater's flirting doesn't end with Trey! Epel's labwear vignette involves Cater trying to get Epel to start a Magicam account, inviting him to Mostro Lounge and even following him to the library when Epel turns him down for at least the third time.

There is also the phone-buying date that he invites the gender-unspecified prefect out on in Book 1 and him telling Vil that he thinks he might want to date him, as you say!

Cater also references girls possibly more than any other character:

He talks to Trey about how beautiful he imagines Epel's sister would be (if he had one), and then jokes about being attracted to Epel's mother, instead.

He also asks Ace to teach him a party trick "that'll impress the ladies," says he is in his element when it is time to "woo a cutie" (in reference to Eliza), comments on the beauty of talking portrait Rosaria, and more.

And, like many of the characters, it might be best not to take what Cater says at face value!

There is a lot more going on with him that appearances betray, with his flirtatiousness possibly being a buffer to keep others away, as he "doesn't do long-term friends or found family."

He might be intentionally keeping his relationships surface-level: hence his apparent shallowness!

And Cater isn't the only one who seems to have intentionally vague characterization in that area, with the first-year students discussing romance together in Ace's Phantom Bride vignette, and all of them (outside of Ace) failing to specify any preferred gender :>

To answer the initial question, I am not sure that we can say any character's sexuality is one thing or another, and I also think this is by design! ^^

Is Cater actually attracted to most people that he meets, or is he putting on an act as a part of the traveling circus show that is his life?

Is he sincerely interested in Trey, or does he only use compliments as a way to tease him, as he knows that Trey can be particularly sensitive to embarrassing situations? Did he really want to go home with him for winter break, or did he just want to get away from his sisters?

Is he actually interested in Epel, or does he simply want to use Epel's appearance as a way to boost his own Magicam presence, much like he seems to be trying with Vil?

Is he actually interested in Rosaria, or does he simply want to use her position as a portrait outside of the teacher's room to his own advantage, like in his school uniform vignette?

Does he actually find things as cute as he says he does, or does he only say "cute" as often as he does as a reflex, due to the environment in which he was raised (as he explains in his labwear vignette)?

- I really didn't change a lot from the og design tbh, I love him. I did give him rounder and bigger eye for that cute puppy-eyed look.

- Stuck some freckles on him and gave him a tooth gap for max cutie patootie status. Oh, and some scars from previous assassination attempts.

- I'm really partial to Kalim and Ruggie or Kalim and Silver personally (or both, Kaiplim does have two hands for a reason) but I see them as a little friend group regardless and he LOVES spoiling them.

- Ruggie at first befriended him for the money aspect but eventually grew to like being around Kalim anyways. Silver just likes to listen to Kalim talk. Was also his first friend outside of Diasomnia.

- Kalim has ADHD and dyslexia, making it super hard for him to concentrate in class so Ruggie helps him study for tests (Kalim always bring food along with so it's mutually beneficial lmao). Because of this, people end up thinking he's dumb but he's super intelligent, he just can't concentrate easily. Crewel lets him have different fidgets in class as long as he doesn't accidentally disrupt his potion-making with them.

- Kalim's also highly empathetic and view himself as a support to all (maybe I am a Kalim kin too, fuck). He loves to listen to other and help out. God, he's such a cutie omg. Also has really good memory in specific about remembering who tells him what.

God I love Kalim so much, the cutie patootie. Still on Book 4 so I don't know ALL of the shit that happens yet but y'know it's gonna make me cry.

If I didn't think I changed a lot about Kalim, I changed practically nothing about Jamil lol.

- Biggest change was giving him a much redder skin tone. Not only is it closer to Jafar's, I felt it would look really nice with his general colour palette.

- Made his face a bit more angular and 'snake-like', plus some fangs but you can't see them lmao. Dimples because every time this man actually smiles, a new angel is born istg.

- I love him and Azul as a dynamic because it's two really emotionally constipated people dancing around each with a fun amount of delulu on Azul's part, let's be honest. Lowkey could be toxic or healing, who knows?

- He purposefully cooks too much some times as an excuse to give some away. I see him slides over an extra thing of food to Azul at some point as a sort of 'repayment' for like give him the homework or something. (Azul loves his cooking but wouldn't say that to his face for a hundred dollars lol).

- He and Trey cook together and Trey is like the only other person Jamil trusts in the kitchen with him. Trey teaches Jamil his family's baking recipes and in turn, Jamil share his cultural recipes. Trey 🤝 Jamil solidarity.

- Hella competitive streak which means Azul and Floyd find it incredibly easy to push his buttons.

- I know this is a lot of AshenViper but I love them lol. Azul tries to flirt with Jamil subtly like in the mer fashion of penguin-pebbling but Jamil is obviously unaware of the custom so he doesn't get it. (He does keep all the little shiny things, though over his dead body would he tell Azul that.)

God, this is just the dorm for asexuals, huh?

- Dareen is twisted from the Cave of Wonders! I could not for the life of me tell what kind of cat it was so she's kinds ambiguous, especially since there's already another tiger.

- She is a very knowledgeable person and knows pretty much everyone. If you need information about someone you wanna ask out, she's your girl. She love playing matchmaker but respects when someone is not reciprocating and helps the rejected party move on.

- She and Oki are friends and like to do tarot readings together. (She may or may not have a massive crush on her but refuses to say anything lol). Both are very interested in cultural practices and hang out a ton to talk about them. (God I love sapphics)

- She's actually also on the basketball team and she and Jamil get along pretty well. She's very fast on the courts and Oki attends all of her games.

- Twisted from Shan Yu, from Mulan! I kept the greyer undertones in her skin which really makes her standout among the warmer ones lol.

- Kept the gold eyes, I love how piercing they look, and darker makeup. Turned the furs into little earring tassel things, idk just for fun.

- Definitely outdoorsy type, she loves to hike around a ton, bring some other classmen out with her. She comes from a hella cold climate so she's wearing shorts until it hits the negatives. Loves horseback riding too and her family has their own stables.

- Natural leader, I can see it being the captain of a sports team, maybe like cross-country or something. She and Leona are probably pretty similar in demeanour as captains, make of that what you will.

- Her and Rook do archery practise together and she actually gets along great with Epel, they bond over winter sports and whatnot.

- Twisted from Shere Khan from the Jungle Book, which I looked up and it takes place in India so she's Indian.

- I didn't want to give her solid orange hair so I settled for some streaks and I love how they look. Gave her a bindi, some thicker brows based on a Pinterest reference that I though was GORGEOUS, and some beautiful hazel eyes.

- She's also likes to be outside but more in the lazy cat way. She love to sunbathe and tends to be spotted around the greenhouse too. Chanda and Leona having cat solidarity lmaoooo. Though her behavior is solely because she's a cat and not depression lol.

- I dunno why but I think she's a totally history nerd, specifically fashion history. Ask her anything about the origins of corsets or sarees and she's go on a long rant about it. She loving drawing, namely fashion sketches and she and Vil work together whenever she makes some prototypes.

That one vignette in which Azul was trying to teach Silver how to assert dominance was fun! I like how Azul acknowledges that Silver is a very useful asset and someone he should definitely be close to, so it’s a very nice reason to ship the two. Plus, Silver is so sweetly gullible and so ready to do as he’s told, in some ways Azul might find him to be a perfect partner. Not only he’s very “pliable” and obedient, he’s also influential in Diasomnia, which is the hardest dorm for Azul to stick his tentacles in.

But yeah, Lilia probably wouldn’t be supportive of that lol He might actually enter the “scary dad” phase if these two started spending more time together.

At first I was a bit skeptical about the idea of Kalim overblotting. Not because I don't believe that Jamil's death wouldn't be traumatic enough, but because aside for strong negative emotions, you generally also need to overuse your magic to overblot. While he can use magic a bit frivolously, I never got the vibe of him abusing it too much.

But you made me realize that Jamil death might be the perfect chance. Even if his family found a substitute, no one could make up for Kalim's shortcomings and understand his strengths like Jamil did. Even if someone that capable existed, he wouldn't let them get close enough to find out. So I think he would try to manage everything by himself, maybe even abusing magic to work around all those obstacles that are beyond his abilities. He would start to live a life similar to Jamil's, with little space for rest or peace, even though he clearly isn't cut out for it.

So it probably wouldn't happen right away, but eventually his stressful lifestyle and the lingering sorrow (maybe even guilt, if he feels responsible) over Jamil's death would lead to him overblotting. It wouldn't matter if his Phantom consumed him. Jamil always gave all he had without esitation, so it's only fair that he keeps doing all he can, even if it kills him.

Yeah, but the thing about overblot is that it doesn’t seem to always need both emotional distress and overuse of magic to occur: Leona didn’t use much magic when he overblotted I think, and Vil’s overblot happened for the most part due to him being severely overstressed and frustrated; that’s why I assume that just losing Jamil, who is the dearest person to him, could be enough for Kalim to snap. But then again, overblots are supposed to be rare, but it’d just show just how painful it was to him to lose Jamil.

But the scenario that you’ve described is also possible, because Kalim’s life is definitely going to change drastically after losing Jamil. It doesn’t have to be an immediate thing, and the changes in his life and actions, especially with the addition of despair and guilt, would absolutely affect him.

Jamil as a sibling (Broken Relationship)

the Viper family has always served the Al-Asim family

since you were a part of the Viper family, you were expected to serve the Al-Asims like everyone else

this meant you had to spend your life doing whatever they said without being better than them at anything or speaking casually with them

your family was raised around them, so you were taught from a very young age how to act around them

your brother Jamil seemed very good at his job taking care of Kalim

he served Kalim well and never outshined him, but his talents still shined through

it was really impressive how he handled it all

especially with all of Kalim's whims and his carefree attitude

Jamil was a shining example of what your parents wanted

the perfect servant who did everything that was asked of him flawlessly, and didn't complain or protest in any way

you on the other hand, weren't perfect like him

at times it was difficult to keep up with your master and you would get tired quickly and even slip up as the day progressed

each and every time, you were scolded heavily by your parents

all it took was a quiet sigh for you to be scolded

eventually they had Jamil try to teach you how to be better

he...wasn't too happy about this

he's normally very busy anyway and this only took more time from him

Jamil acted very different from how he did normally

when it was just you, he didn't mind letting his frustration show

and he got frustrated quickly

he knew your parents standards so anything less than perfect service wasn't tolerated

so he didn't expect you to be perfect considering you needed his help, but he seemed to think you were worse than expected

in his eyes, teaching you might take a while

Jamil was certainly a strict teacher

he would have you practicing for hours and any mistake would mean you had to restart the process

there were some days where he was extra tired and he had no problems expressing that to you

when you failed then, he would mumble to himself like

"Hopeless. Absolutely hopeless and a waste of time."

you're not sure if he intended for you to hear his mumblings, but you certainly did each time

it's a bit spirit crushing to hear him say it more than once

it would make you dread the days when Kalim had more energy and was more lively

it wasn't really Kalim's fault but Jamil would be extra tired those days and end up taking it out on you

it was hard not to let his words get to you

so even when your parents decided that you didn't have to be taught by him anymore, his words stuck

anytime you failed at anything, his word would echo that you were hopeless

this followed you into Night Raven College too

especially since the only people you knew there were Jamil and Kalim

since Kalim was there, you were still expected to serve him

thankfully Kalim wasn't as strict about things and he treated you well

while you could be more at ease around Kalim, you couldn't around Jamil

he did give you some of his tasks to handle throughout the day and there were times you were left to watch Kalim

it wasn't too bad watching over Kalim

he was always very happy about it but that meant he wanted to go on adventures and do super exciting things with you

this is usually when it was more work

still, his energy and joy towards everything was nice

Jamil would check in periodically throughout the day to make sure you were doing everything right

if he saw something that was wrong, he'd immediately take over and tell you to just go anywhere else

for a bit, Kalim's joy was what kept you hopeful

but that changed too

during winter break, all of Scarabia was supposed to stay in order to train and study so we could do better in future events

Kalim himself ordered this

it didn't seem so bad at first

but then he made everyone march to the oasis multiple times throughout the day

it was far too much for everyone to handle

some students even passed out, and you started to feel it too

and to top it all off, Kalim wasn't actually marching with everyone

he got to ride on one of his elephants while everyone else marched

at some point, you decided to try and talk to Kalim about it

maybe you could get him to ease up on everyone just a little bit

you told him that the oasis was too far to walk to in the heat and some students, including you, were starting to feel like you're going to pass out

but Kalim snapped at you

"If you can't keep up, we'll leave you behind. We can't waste any time on people like you."

it was like you were back to your childhood being taught by Jamil

but it was a little different coming from Kalim

almost spirit crushing all over again

you just went along with the march after that, not wanting to be left behind

for some reason, Kalim was much meaner to you after that

he's been more snappy and couldn't tolerate anything less than the best

and you didn't seen to cut it

still, you had to serve Kalim and Jamil made sure you did

Jamil told you that this was all for the better and that you should be helping encourage your peers

but it just didn't seem right to you

he only got more upset when you expressed that and started mumbling again

you can't remember much of what happened after that but you do remember that some of the other students seemed pretty upset with you

that wasn't the only time it happened either

there were a few more times when people would be upset with you, but you had no idea why

that was until some Octavinelle students came

they were guests and treated pretty well

but then Octavinelle's housewarden, Azul, exposed Jamil using a recording

Jamil was using his unique magic to control the minds of Scarabia...

that explains what's been happening to you and why Kalim has been acting meaner

Jamil was using the both of you to help enforce his plans

Kalim is the housewarden, but Jamil has been in charge this whole time

Kalim was pretty upset and tried confronting Jamil...

but that only led to Jamil overblotting and Kalim and the Octavinelle students were sent off into the desert

he had already started putting all of Scarabia under his control, but you just had to ask him

"Why? Why would you do this? To Kalim or me?"

he laughed

"I can't be expected to waste my life as someone else's servant. I'm meant to be the one in charge. You and Kalim are just easy pawns made to help me."

you can't remember much after that, which meant he must've used his magic on you again

when you were brought back to your senses, he had been defeated by Kalim and the others

and of course, Kalim was quick to forgive him, even wanting to throw a celebration

but you just couldn't take it

you couldn't be there and pretend like everything was okay, so you left Scarabia that night

and yet, Jamil had found you outside classes the next day and tried talking to you

"I just wanted to talk to you about everything that's happened. For the most part I just wanted to say...I'm sorry. It's not enough, I know that. But I hope that someday you could forgive me and I can work to be closer with you."

But can you forgive him after everything?

"Ahaha! Look Jamil, the elephants are playing around the fountain!"

Kalim says, an enthusiastic smile on his face, as Jamil huffs out "Kalim! Not now!" while trying to take care of all the animals

On the corner of his eye, Kalim sees a parrot flying outside and going through the mirror. Thinking that going after the bird could lessen his friend's burden, he went for it, warning Jamil with a simple "I'll be back soon" (to which Jamil replied "wait, Kalim!") he runs out the dorm, following the bird

Outside, he sees it flying to a more calm and shaded place, seemingly dazed, he lands atop of a sleeping man with silver hair and a calm aura

Looking closer, he noticed the male was a friend of his, namely Silver, like his hair and eyes. He tries to wake him gently to not scare the parrot and after much struggle, the male finally opens his eyes, letting a soft 'huh' out as he looks in Kalim's direction

"Ah! You finally woke up Silver!"

"Hm? Ah yeah, thank you Kalim, I must've fallen asleep again" he answers, still waking up by the looks of it "Hey Silver, if you don't mind, would you like to come to my party?"

"Party? When is it?"

"Well" Kalim replies "It's today! Around 6 pm! Think you can come?"

"Hmm" Silver thinks "Maybe another day, but I can help in the meantime" helping the male get up, Kalim says "Thanks! I have a feeling you're good with animals so I'm sure you'll help a lot"

Making small talk on the way back, they end up talking about what happened so far, and mostly, about the prefect

"The prefect is really nice! They helped me so many times and are a precious friend of mine" Kalim keeps going on and on about the prefect of ramshackle "I see, they seem like a lovely person, you talk very foundly of them, Kalim" Silver slightly intervenes, putting a stop to Kalim's excited ramble. Still, Kalim continues "Yeah! They saved me and helped me when I was at my lowest, I really treasure them, they're more precious than any of my jewels!"

"Hmm, hey Kalim, do you like the prefect?" Silver asks to a beaming Kalim "Huh? Ah of course, I already said it but they're a really good friend"

"No, like" Silver continues "Are you perhaps in love with them?" He asls straigh away to a now slightly blushing Kalim "Eh?! Umm, I haven't thought in that way"

After some time, Kalim exclaims "Yeah! I like them!"

"That's nice to hear, do you have any plans to court them? I remember the ol- I mean, father teaching me about it"

"Courting? I mean, as a son of the Asim family, they do teach some things but I never paid attention, I was always daydreaming" Kalim replies with a smile. "Then" Silver proposes "Would like me to help? Although I may not have the best advice, I do think I can help with the matter"

"I'll be counting on you then, Silver! Maan, I feel I'm using you at this point, sorry" He apologizes, but Silver denies "It's fine, I'm the one offering help, besides, I don't mind it"

When they reached the Scarabia Dorm, both men went inside and organized everything to the best of their abilites, with mostly Jamil taking care of everything. After managing everythin out, Jamil brought some drinks and snacks for the others, excusing himself to finish the last preparations for the party

Now alone, Silver starts out "Maybe you should sing them something"

"Like a love song?" Kalim inquires "But I'm not sure I can do it right away, if possible I'd like to do it as soon as possible, and the party will starin a few hours"

"Well then, how about a love letter instead? You can still show them your love with your words, just in a different way"

"Oh! Nice idea, Silver!" And so, Kalim started writing

Kalim and ADHD

@weilaverdui suggested putting on tumblr all the stuff I felt was too long for the author's notes, so here. Some Kalim thoughts from my drafts. It is, as usual, only speculation for the game, but canon for Aquarium, and something that emerged during my work on chapter 23.

I do think that Kalim’s ADHD contributes heavily to the way he comes across as perpetually lighthearted and silly to a point of other characters feeling like his attitude is inappropriate at times.

We have inability to form habits, inability to parse social cues (all while being around Jamil, who operates largely on routine, planning and subtlety). We have the fact that he’d never before had reason to try and manage it (him likely never being punished for it is a good thing; him never facing any accountability whatsoever… not so much). We have impulsiveness that to him is completely logical but that for others comes out of nowhere.

And it would play so much into how Kalim treated Jamil before the overblot and his inability to notice anything was wrong; it's not just naivety and trust, but also the difficulty Kalim has reading people's behaviors and keeping track of them. So maybe Jamil behaves a little weirdly today? Except Kalim can't quite remember how things were yesterday, or a month before - and surely if something was really wrong, Jamil would say it.

Meanwhile Jamil, a whole different brand of mental illness, just bottles things up. And it becomes a cursed circle until things eventually explode.

Despite how happy Kalim is, I always get a little sad when writing him, because while his upbringing allowed him to have a happy childhood, it also traumatized him in ways he will probably never fully realize.

It might have made his life easier, in some ways - it's hard to dwell on all the assassination attempts when they don't exist unless you deliberately remember about them. It also probably made navigating the political climate of the Asim estate an absolute nightmare - not that Kalim probably gave it much conscious thought, at least so far.

I'm actually curious what will happen if Kalim's mind, for once, gets stuck on something bad. He's had plenty of those experiences - from his own near-deathes to Jamil's - but in canon, he only ever focuses on the nice memories or bizarre, but harmless ideas that wander into his head. I don't really know if I'd get to explore that - Aquarium is not Kalim's story, after all - but I'd love to if I can spare words for it.

I'm currently in the planning stage for some of the events far in the future of Aquarium, including Kalim's 18th birthday celebration. It makes me consider all the implications of the tidbits of worldbuilding we've been given and how much it had to fall onto Jamil's shoulders to remember who's friend and who's foe and what's going on at the estate. I guess Kalim's father might have tried to teach Kalim something, but that would inevitably run into the wall of Kalim's complete lack of interest in politics of any kind.

And when Kalim's not interested, good luck getting anything stay in his head.

I'm guessing my interpretation of palace politics (I know they're not technically royalty, but they're filthy rich enough for it to apply) is going to be inevitably colored by all the Tang dynasty research I'm having to do for my translations. I don't know if TWST intended for the level of scheming that's going to bring, but if they didn't, they really shouldn't have made Kalim victim of all those assassination attempts.

It's going to be one hell of a party, let me tell you.

Ruggie would pick out dandelions out in the field to make you a little dandelion incense. He doesn’t know if it has any significance with health but he wants to show you that he cares and will not hesitate to stay.

You probably have enough energy to bonk him in the head for that though.

He’d hum a small tune as you fall asleep. His voice may not be the best, but you just find it somehow soothing.

“Oya? You’ve caught a fever. Let me make some tea for you, and Mostro Lounge’s soup of the day. I heard it’s a healthy recipe.”

He’ll check your forehead with the back of his hand, giving you icepacks and some special sea remedies that he too used when he was still a young merman back at the Coral Sea.

He wouldn’t be skipping out on classes, so he will list down everything you missed, and he will bring the work back to your place, insisting that he will do the tasks for you as you take your rest.

He would love to come in contact more with you, but all he can do is sit by you with a cup of tea in hand and a book on the other.

Jade would be sure to tuck you in nicely, brushing the hair away that covered your face.

Jamil Viper

The last time you were sick, Kalim bursted into tears thinking you’d die. But in his case, he could actually feel a little panic but always shrugs it off as he cools himself.

As a servant, it is his job to make people suitable with the atmospheres and always look after them. As your beloved, he sort of feels let down that you caught a sickness whilst he was looking elsewhere.

He will, not a doubt, make medicines for you. He’ll try his best to keep Kalim away from you, since Kalim must also be worried sick about you.

Not on his watch will he see you out of bed. He will drag you back to bed, up to the point that he will hypnotise you if you don’t follow his orders.

He’ll be willing to teach you the things you missed during your absence in classes.

Rook Hunt

He’s Rook. What else can I say? He will keep telling you that you’re unfortunate to obtain such a sickness as he brushes your hair with his fingers.

“Non non. Your temperature is not normal. Mi amour, let me treat you.”

He’d clip your hair up away from your face as you chug down your medicine. He wants you to be at ease even when you’re sick.

Prepare for so much compliments, this man will win a ‘compliment olympics’.

You just gave yourself a death wish.

I’m scared to say this, but he will be cooking for you. Exciting, right?

Once Silver knows of his plans with you, he will make sure to stop Lilia and make him serve you some soup that is not Lilia-like.

Najih grew up alone with his mother, Layla. He never met his father and his mother always avoids any questions about him. Hi family, as far as he knows, is full of assassins and so was his mother. And he was expected to be the same. So all through this childhood he was trained in many things like combat, martial arts, weaponry, poison, survival and more. Every day a challenge his mother put upon him to “prepare” him for adulthood. The more normal things she trained him in is how to fight(both offense and defense), how to use most weapons and turn things into weapons and how to survive most things like this.

The things that weren’t that normal however were the more intense training. One of these things were the poison, how to make and consume poison. Everyday he would drink a bit of poison since the age of 4 to get him immune to it. One of the other things she did is leave him alone on an island for over a year to fend for himself. This island was the home of a lot of monsters and had no humans living there.

His mother would always put him through trials like these, often causing him to break something or collapse on the spot. But all of that payed off when he took his first job at 13, which was to assassinate a CEO of an oil company. After a successful assassination attempt he’d be sent on more and more “jobs”.

They were all the same until he got a job from a very famous, and influential, family for a bodyguard job. At first he thought it would be a horrible idea, he’s an assassin not a bodyguard, but after his mother “talked” to him he accepted.

And that’s the one, and only, reason he joined NRC at the beginning of the second semester.

But not a lot of people noticed since he still was very quiet.

The first one to actually notice (After Kalim and Jamil) was Sebek, since they share a class and all. Which surprised him.

He first joined the light music club(which made Kalim Cater and Lilia so happy) so he can monitor Kalim better at first.

But then he actually started to enjoy his time and never left.

He plays the piano, which was surprising but very welcomed in the club.

He learned how to play the piano for a mission when he was 14 and got very into it.

He’s usually wherever Kalim is, but started to hang out with other people(mostly the first years and music club)

Deuce and Cater invited him to an Un-Birthday party, where he realized just how much of a sweet tooth he is.

He’s polyamorous, and tends to get crushes when he gets close to someone.

His first crush was actually Lilia when he read about him. And when he met him and realized it was him his crush came back.

Something to know for reading all of this is that I’m going to try my best to write platonic relationships that can be implied as romantic. Because some people may like a character but not feel romantic feelings towards them but still would like to know how they would act on their birthday.

Out of all of these boys, he’s the one that’s most likely to forget your birthday

He overhears you talking with the other first years and them saying happy birthday. Then it finally clicks and he remembers that today is your birthday and he plays it off like he remembered

He’s not being mean in any way he just honestly doesn’t remember birthdays well

He talks with the first years while you’re not around and plans a little sleepover of sorts at your dorm

When you come back to your dorm for the night you find all of the first years there and they’re just kind of chilling in the lounge

They bring out a cake for you saying that they all baked and decorated it themselves but with the experience that the first years have it’s a strange-looking cake but it does it taste all that bad it’s just a lot of frosting and decorations because each one of them wanted to add a personal touch.

You guys have fun run around the dorm causing trouble

Then once it turns 12 you guys decide to settle down for the night and plot twist you don’t actually go to bed but instead play Mario kart till 3 AM

He would try his hardest the whole day to make it the most perfect and kind of relaxing day ever. But utterly fail

In his eyes, he failed but it’s not that big of a deal

He’ll try to hold the door open for you or carry you around for fun and either, drop you, or trip

He feels really bad the whole day that he keeps messing everything up and it keeps getting less and less romantic

At the end of the day, you assure him that you had the best time and it was very fun. Which he doesn’t really believe because again he feels like he failed but he’s glad you had a good time.

He also stays the night hanging out with you until you fall asleep.

He would bake you a cake from scratch and decorated it with little flowers of your favorite color

He’s a really sweet guy so he would invite a couple of your close friends maybe three or four of them so that you’re not alone on your birthday and you also won’t have any leftover cake because you’ll eat it all.

A very nice and sweet get together messing around having fun

The morning would start very easy with the simple happy birthday and him taking you skateboarding you don’t have to go to a skating park or anything like that he’s just gonna teach you a couple of tricks.

But progressively throughout the day, it gets more centric and fun

When he wakes up he goes and attempts to find you and if he doesn’t he just goes man and gives up but if he does find you he tells you happy birthday and then walks off

Depending on your relationship with him he could be very distant and not caring but if you go and hang out with him during the afternoon when he’s not sleeping he’s pretty chill about it not really caring that you’re there if you have a negative disposition towards him he might care and tell you to leave.

You might think he doesn’t have any money but those are jobs that he’s been working aren’t for nothing

He wouldn’t have a birthday party for you

He would however have you meet him in the lounge

It would be the beginning of the day and he’s down the hall in spots you. He would immediately not yell your name but scream it and run to you yelling happy birthday. It would make quite the scene but he wants everyone to know that it’s your birthday and also Vil would probably hate the fact that he just screamed.

He asks you if you’re ready to “rock and roll” (for anyone who doesn’t know this is just a saying to ask if you’re “ready to go”)

He’s taking you on a trip to go do a bunch of fun stuff in town and to probably prank some people because why not.

Wouldn’t throw you a party instead he would probably stop by your dorm and announce his presence and sing you happy birthday.

He would tell you that he will follow you the whole day and you can do whatever you want with him

Malleus is somewhere in between depending on what you want so no this won’t be a surprise birthday

Or if you’re more on the reserve side or you want a smaller party he’ll have a couple of your close friends join him and going to your dorm and having a get-together little party for you.

This man is crazy

He wrote down your birthday and planned weeks in advance

He would write down everything that you like in hopes that when it becomes your birthday he has everything that you could ever want on that day

He tries his best to bake a cake but then realizes that he’s actually really good at it

On the day of you’d think that he be really loud and excitable and overbearing but in fact, he is the complete opposite being very considerate and not quiet but an inside voice because he doesn’t want to stress you out or seem disingenuous.

He doesn’t host a party for all of your friends it’s just you and him. The reason for this and putting in so much effort just for you and him is because he’s rather shy when it comes to not just romantic feelings but platonic feelings as well not showing people how he really feels especially when it’s around other people as well. So it’s kind of to make himself feel more comfortable as well

Silver

Silver isn’t the party kind of person so he’ll probably get you a cute little gift like a bouquet of roses specifically white roses to symbolize purity or maybe a charm bracelet.

It’s not that he doesn’t want to throw you a birthday party it’s just that he doesn’t know how to go about it since the only parties ever really celebrated is his own because of Lilia when he was younger.

If you say something about not having a party or a cake he’ll get a little sad thinking that he might have failed you.

He’s going to perform an entire album that he and the light music club came up with for you as a birthday gift

Knowing him at the end of the performance he’s probably going to get off the stage to go and kiss you (Not necessarily on the lips if it’s a platonic relationship it’s probably on the forehead with the cheek as a sign of affection no love).

I love your characters analyses and I agree a lot with them!My favorite is Kalim and while he's an angel, the way most people go "Dumb innocent baby who is naive to the way of the the world uwu" kinda irks me haha. Yes, he's an airhead most of the time but he's much more perceptive than he looks (he knew about Jamil nature all along) and can use his head and put in hard work when he thinks it matters, aka helping and making other people happy (his dorm uniform and scary outfit story) (part 1)

PREACH ANON, PREACH!!! The truth has been spoken 👏👏👏 That was amazing and you almost said anything that I meant to say! Characters and even real people who have the same personality as Kalim are often mischaracterized/misunderstood, mostly because people don't know that kindness isn't equal to stupidity. Almost anything that was needed to be said is already here so I'd just go through some of the details to complete it:

(1) Kindness ≠ Stupidity

Honestly...this isn't just about twst, it's about real life. These days many who are just sweet, generous and caring toward others even as they know that they're being abused because of their kindness, are called naïve and stupid. Look, many times they do realize that not everyone around them are worthy of their kindness, but they'd continue to treat them nicely, because it's in they're nature to be kind nonetheless, and this purity and genuine kindness is the worthiest thing one can ever ask for.

After chapter 4, Kalim did understand that Jamil had never been the person he was thought he was, he didn't even consider Kalim his friend. Jamil is still rejecting him but Kalim doesn't care, he even thanked Jamil after the fairy gala event for dancing with him, because it reminded him of the times when they played as children. Someone like Kalim would never forget anyone's kindness towards him, no matter what happens or how things change through the time. If you think about it, we all need someone like Kalim in our life.

Accept it, no matter who we are or how different our taste in people might be, we'd still appreciate an ally like Kalim. Someone who'd care for you and your problems no matter what it is, even as he can't help he'd try his best to at least make you feel better. He accepts criticism and won't fight you even if you call him useless and dumb (Just like when Jamil blamed him in the end of chapter 4), yet he'd still try to befriend you and do his best to support you through obstacles. This will to help people whom he cares for regardless of what they think of him or how much it may trouble him is an absolute treasure, just how many people can be like Kalim?

(2) Kalim shouldn't be compared to Jamil all the time!

A really common way of mischaracterizing Kalim is by comparing him to Jamil all the time: "Jamil is quiet, Kalim is talkative" "Jamil is cold, Kalim is warm and friendly" "Jamil is talented, Kalim is not" "Jamil is thoughtful and wise, Kalim is careless and stupid"...

I agree that Kalim and Jamil are different in some ways, but it isn't okay if we're going to compare him to Kalim whenever we're talking about him! Do we mention Jade or Floyd whenever we're talking about Azul? Do we compare Vil to Rook everytime we're talking about him? See, Kalim and Jamil are two separate characters. No matter how different or close they are, it isn't okay to consider them as nothing more than opposites! Both Kalim and Jamil have independent personalities amd we we don't have to mention Jamil whenever we want to talk about Kalim! His existence isn't bound to Jamil's and he's got a lot we can talk about other than his relationship/differences with Jamil.

(3) His generosity tells us a lot

You may wonder, why is he so generous anyway? Giving up on golden peacocks and diamond stones for friends and even strangers without caring about the financial loss isn't such an easy thing to do. Well let's imagine being on Kalim's shoes for a second:

You come from an unbelievably rich family, and ever since you can remember everyone around you has been treating you like a prince because of your father's status and money. Everyone around you is supposed to respect and treat you like a royaland you can buy anything you can ever wish for, you've got no financial boundaries. But on the other hand, you know that almost everything you've got around you is because of money: fame, wealth and many of your friends.

And if you one day lose all the money you'd once got, what is going to happen to you? What should you rely on? Who will ever even care if you're alive or not if the money that held all of your power and clout is gone? Also, even as he's rich, there are still things that he couldn't ever buy with money. He did say that sometimes he just feels so alone several times, then quickly changed the topic into something interesting and bright. Maybe he does want people to know that he as well sometimes goes through the pain and loneliness, but doesn't want it to seem to dramatic therefore he'd just quickly mention it to let it off his chest, then starts to talk about something else.

That's much and less of the reason behind Kalim's personality, he wants to use his money and attitude to gain what he can't buy with money: Friends. That's right, many of his friends might already be around him just for money, right? But it doesn't matter, he's got enough of money to keep them all satisfied. And if satisfying them is all it takes to keep his friends around him, he's all fine with it. He doesn't mind hoe expensive it might be, as long as he'll get to have nice friends he cares for around him he's alright.

THis generosity with money has found his way to his personality and attitude as well. His nature gravitates him into trying his best to help people out with all he's got. Kalim on his own is one that can get to have hid problems solved easily, there's always someone there to do it for him so he never needs to worry about anything. Perhaps he wants others around him to feel the same? If he had someone to take care of him whenever he needed to, then everyone else as well deserve to be helped out through difficulties just like Kalim was.

(4) We should all try and see through him!

Lets take a look at Kalim's background: Growing up with legit LOTS of siblings, he surely didn't get the attention and family love he deserved to have. Have you ever considered why Jamil was always so important to him while he could've been this close to any of his brothers? Well, that might be because none of his family members wasn't ever even close to being that close to him. Jamil isn't his brother, but Kalim does consider him his brother and best friend, which is somehow showing that even his own family haven't done as much as Jamil has done for him. He could've been poisoned or assassinated at any second, how does it feel growing up in an environment where you know many people already want you dead? Also, have you considered just how insecure and skeptical he coul've became because of having such a fearful past? At this point, someone wit his background might not even dare talk to any of other students let alone making friends with them! Almost any of us could've had trust issues if we'd grown up in the same environment as him!

Come to think of it, you'll see that Kalim is also pretty similar to the well-known hero Naruto! Naruto used to be looked down on because of his lack of ability yet he never gave up, he had a stunning will to turn his enemies into friends, he was considering and never gave up on Sasuke no matter how many times he hurt and turned his back on Naruto, and he never gave up on his goal no matter how many times he lost.

Kalim as well still has a lot to learn to improve and become a stronger magician, and he has strated to work his best and try to improve! It might not happen as fast as we may expect, but someday, maybe he as well would be strong enough for Jamil to be considered his rival and friend.

Another interesting fact to point out is their sense of humor, both Narto and Kalim can be careless at the time and sometimes mess up, and they also have a thing for sometimes laughing at their friends' mistakes (Not in an offensive way) all though they're the one to mess up most of the time. Like the times Kalim laughed at how bad Ace and Deuce's performance was, then decided to teach them how to dance with the help of Jamil.

Just would've been improved much faster if his goal was to be a great magician, but the main difference between Kalim and Naruto are thirs goals. Becoming a great ninja was Naruto's biggest goal, while Kalim's greatest goal is to be a good and supportive friend for everyone around him. Keep something in mind about Scarabia: It's true that Jamil, the vice dorm leader is in charge of most of the tasks and managements; but Kalim's presence is just as necessary for the students! Students need someone understand them, listen to their messenge and care to solve their problems like a friend! With Kalim's sympathy and Jamil's management, Scarabia students would have the chance to improve their best for the sake of their dorm and their very own future. (Though there needs to be some changes, Kalim should be a little more serious in general and Jamil needs to be more considering, but if Kalim and Jamil learn to work as a team Scarabia would stand higher than many of other dorms!)

For real, this is a school of villains and Kalim is much of a great exception to be in this school. He's legit the nicest character in the game and even MC had plenty of great memories with him back in the Chapter 4. This precious boy doesn't deserve to be called stupid or naïve while all he's been doing so far was to bring everyone including us the players a wonderful time and sweet memories...we need to understand him much better💔

riddle often likes to invite them over for tea whenever trey bakes

he also invites them to unbirthday parties often- but since he’s trying to be a bit more “lax” with the rules, they aren’t as... graceful as he wishes they’d be. he much prefers to have some relaxing teatime with his friend in the common room than to have all the heartslabyul students chattering and him trying to not be a spoilsport at an unbirthday party

he finds it quite cute how just... soft and gentle they are. no offense to his other friends, but chen’nya and trey are probably everything but soft. it’s honestly quite relaxing for him to just hang out with them

maybe it’s because of how nice and gentle they are, or just because he trusts them a lot, but he’s much more willing to open up and show his vulnerable side to them. 

he often takes them to see the hedgehogs and feed the little critters. usually, riddle would rather be caught dead than cooing and petting the little animals, but he knows that they won’t judge. the hedgehogs like them too!

he’s very much aware they’re rather fragile, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t worry over them. nrc students are... rough, to say the least, especially other dorms where discipline isn’t kept as strictly

he’ll most likely make sure it’s known that he’s close friends with them (after all, nobody  would dare mess around with the heartslabyul leader’s friend), and he’ll also frequently set up study sessions to make sure they’re doing alright

leona kingscholar

leona almost feels like his friend’s protector. sure, he’d never say it out loud- but even though he might call them a “meek little herbivore” and so, he deeply cares for them 

some would think leona’s gruff and almost careless attitude wouldn’t mesh well with their soft and gentle way of being, but they couldn’t be more wrong

... maybe he does need some softness in his life. he’s so used to being surrounded by people who either fear him or think of him as an inferior version of his brother, or by others who are similarly a bit rough in attitude: having a friend like them just brings some much needed softness to his life

unsurprisingly, his idea of hanging out is more often than not letting them hang around while he naps. it’s true he can sleep wherever, but there’s just something about falling asleep knowing they’re around that brings him peace. it’s probably got to do with being at peace in the presence of someone he trusts

leona is very, very much aware that they’re not very sturdy. he calls most people herbivores, yes, but with them he means it. he might play it off as just him being annoyed, but he does seriously worry

he’ll invite them over to practice magift in the mornings; of course, everyone in savanaclaw knows to treat them nicely and to not even try to rough them up, lest they get on leona’s bad side. he hopes that he can help them at least a little: sure, some magift practice won’t just make them super strong or anything, but it comforts him to know they can learn to hold up on their own

but it’s not like that’d be needed, really. leona doesn’t let anyone slide by and even as much as hurt a hair on their head. it’s shocking to everyone how the usually lazy lion seems to go out of his way to make sure they’re doing well and to make sure everyone knows if they try to mess with his friend, they’ll have him on their case

azul ashengrotto

azul almost feels a bit guilty sometimes. his business isn’t necessarily the nicest or the cleanest, and his reputation is unique to say the least. and on the other hand, there’s someone like his friend, who just radiates an aura of soft and gentle energy 

some people think that someone as sneaky as azul would only associate with someone as soft and gentle as them for nefarious reasons, but in reality, it’s not like that at all. azul would rather have everyone see his childhood photos than betray their trust; that’s how serious it is to him

he often invites them to the monstro lounge to hang around. they can do homework and get a snack, or if he’s free, he’s more than happy to spend time with them. floyd and jade like them quite a bit too (although jade and azul make an effort to not let floyd squeeze them because knowing the eel’s strength he might really do some damage), so it’s always a fun time

he wishes he’d had a friend like this when he was younger. someone with just such a gentle way of being and a soft demeanor, instead of the snickering and hurtful kids who threw pebbles at him and laughed. but at least he has them now, he reasons, and so he’s going to do his best to make the friendship last 

it’s also easier for azul to open up to them. oh sure, he’s close with the tweels, but they’re... well, they’re special, in their own way, and even if he trusts them he can’t just let down his guard around those two.

but with them- with his friend who he’s learnt to trust, who is so clearly simply a gentle person from the heart? azul finds it more easy to talk about the things that bother him, perhaps even to go as far as to let his octopus form be seen by them

azul is very much aware that they’re quite fragile, even for a human. he hopes nobody would swoop as low as to target them for a deal he made, but it’s impossible to know how people will react once they realize they’ve been tricked- luckily, earning azul’s trust means that they might as well consider the tweels their own bodyguards. all that energy floyd can’t put into squeezing them out of genuine fear of hurting them can be put to good use, after all

kalim al-asim

kalim is a naturally affectionate person, especially so with his friends! he’s always shining when he hangs out with them, and he’s always keen to get them gifts and whatnot. it’s a bit jarring sometimes, but it’s almost impossible to stop him- he just wants to make his friend happy, after all!

bonding time with kalim can be many, many things. he’s full of energy and always seems to have happiness in his eyes, and he always wants to share that emotion with his friend

sometimes it’s a magic carpet ride (a careful one, of course. he might have gotten out fine from crashing the thing against walls a handful of times, but his friend is a bit on the fragile side and if he hurt them he would be at a complete loss), and if he’s able to, kalim might even invite jamil along (jamil claims he was “dragged” to the ordeal)

because he doesn’t want to depend on jamil so much, he might ask them if they know how to cook. it’s not a big deal if they can’t cook- he can’t, either!- but he just appreciates the company in the kitchen, even if he knows whatever he makes will... probably not be edible, it’s just fun to spend time with friends like that!

he might be quite vocal on how they have to be careful. they’re the kind of person who bruises like a peach and seems to be easy to get hurt- they gotta be careful! luckily for them, he’s an expert in dodging hazards, so he’ll always make sure they’re doing ok

his energy and theirs balance out quite nicely. he’s usually very, very energetic, always almost bouncing with joy, meanwhile they have a much calmer and soft demeanour. in the end, this results in moments of fun followed by just relaxing and chilling; it’s moments that are prime for him to study or do homework, since just hanging out with them relaxes him so much

bonding time with vil is amazing. it’s skincare and self care galore; facemasks, soothing creams, burning pleasing candles that make the room feel like a spa. it’s soothing and relaxing and great for everyone’s skin

vil may seem to be a bit uptight, but he loosens up when he hangs around them. their gentleness is almost contagious, it seems; besides, he enjoys being able to unwind a bit

still, vil is truly always aiming high. he might ask them if a new experimental makeup look is fine, or he might give them samples of chapstick or creams for them to say if they feel fine on the skin. he trusts they’ll be honest with him, after all

sometimes vil may feel a bit like a nagging parent, reminding them to do their skincare and keep their clothes pristine, but that’s simply the way he expresses he cares for them. he knows they have great potential; he makes sure to tell them

vil appreciates their gentle and soft demeanor quite a lot. sure, he might not be the most soft spoken or nice person out there (maybe some would even call him sharp-tongued, but that’s not his problem), but god some students here are crude. it’s a breath of fresh air to just be able to relax with a friend like that

he finds their more delicate and fragile self to be quite endearing, in a way. since he’s surprisingly strong, he’ll often help them in things that need strength if needed

it’s a common occurrence for him to invite them on his morning jogs or walks. he likes the company, and he simply feels more energized when he can spend that time with a close friend like that- after all, he hardly has free time between his studies and his work, so he often takes every chance he has to check up on them and hang out

honestly he hasn’t had many friends in his life, so he’s very keen on trying to be a good friend

well, even still, most of the times, bonding time for him simply implies inviting them over for some video games or to show them the latest invention he’s made

they’re one of the few people idia doesn’t mind having in his room. usually, his room is his safe haven and he feels terribly anxious to have anyone in it- but if it’s them, he really doesn’t mind at all

as a plus, ortho also likes them a lot. in ortho’s own words, “anyone who’s friends with my big brother is my friend too!”. it’s charming to see the little robot get all happy when he knows that they’re gonna come over to hang out

idia also likes to teach them little bits about technology and magic. after all, it’s a rarely taught subject despite how useful it is- really, he’s probably the most qualified person in all of nrc to teach them! he feels immense pride to see his friend tinkering with electronics, even if the most they can do is maybe change the batteries in one of his inventions

because he doesn’t go out much, he’ll try to find different ways to spend time with them. sure, videogames are fine and all, but- well, he doesn’t want their friendship to be just always hanging out in his room... in a way, their presence helps idia get out a little bit more

he’s likely to invite them over to the board game club. azul is always happy to have more people over, since more people means more board games to play; and having the one other person idia is comfortable with around means that idia’s going to be more lively

he too is a bit more on the fragile side. he might whine about he absolutely despises P.E. classes, and how he wishes he didn’t have to do them, come on, are they even really needed? 

the fact they’re just... a soft and gentle person by nature is like warm soup for idia’s soul. being a naturally anxious person, he often overthinks and worries over everything, but they’re always there by his side to reassure him. it’s more helpful than they can imagine, really, and for that he’s eternally grateful

malleus draconia

they are so, so, so curious to malleus. he’s used to being feared, to having people fall to their knees by his mere presence, to hear whispers and rumours fly by when he roams the halls; and yet...

this... fragile little human just doesn’t seem to hold an ounce of fear. they approached him, befriended him, treat him so... nicely, despite him being feared and admired and them being a mere human. it’s... nice.

he will never not be amused by how they treat him so nicely and gently despite the fact he’s powerful beyond their comprehension. nobody would dare come up and ask the great malleus draconia if they can put a flower crown on his head, or ask to touch his horns, except them

and he treasures those interactions. he appreciates just how thoughtful they are- they listen to him talk on and on about gothic architecture, about the variations and functions of gargoyles, about abandoned buildings, all the things he likes so much he simply doesn’t talk about with others because one, he barely has people to talk to, and two, they’re... incredibly niche interests

in the same vein, malleus will often bring them things. old artifacts and jewels he’s hoarded in his lifetime, books that he thinks they might like, stories of the past, or even show them complex spells that serve the simple function of entertaining them

he’s overjoyed whenever he’s invited to hang out, even if it’s something as minor as hanging out in his friend’s dorm or out on a park outside school hours. he may try to act like he isn’t that affected, but lilia can attest he was so stoked at finally being invited he spent about a week planning exactly what to wear and how to act at his first invitation to hang out with a friend

malleus already sees most humans as weak and fragile, compared to the fae (and especially compared to dragon fae like him), but... well, his friend is just on another level. he often avoids patting their shoulder or using potent magic near them, just because he’s terrified of accidentally hurting them. sure, they might say he’s being too paranoid, but he’d rather be safe than sorry- they are his dearest friend, after all

~ I don’t think Riddle is going to care about some skirts or thigh high socks (I mean he wears heels) after all they don’t go against any rules do they? (I mean unless they’re not a certain color on certain days but anyways-)
