On this day, one year ago...

I had a really lovely day today. First, I went to Hiroshima Castle. The castle grounds themselves were nice to walk through on such a bright sunny day. There were a class doing a school trip there, if I remember correctly, and a few small groups of tourists exploring the grounds. It wasn't busy though, like you'd get at other castles and their grounds. Just 'nicely populated'.

Then I went into Hiroshima Castle itself, and I don't know what I was expected, but it was so much better than I could have imagined. I hadn't gone 'inside' a castle before, but this one they had converted into a museum with English accessible history of Hiroshima, the ruling clans of the area throughout history, and just so much more fascinating information. I had so much fun reading through everything, and it on EVERY floor of the castle, so there was a LOT to go over. It was so interesting.

Afterwards I went to Kamiyacho Shareo, a mall inside one of the stations, no doubt looking for a Starbucks 😅 I think I went to Sunmall again at this point too.

I'd been looking for nice spots in Hiroshima, and I love walking through gardens, so Shukkeien Garden came highly recommended. They sold koi food at the entrance, meaning you could feed the fish! Already this had me stoked 😄

Gosh, the gardens were so beautiful. It was only a small place, but I had such a lovely time walking around. Just so chill and serene. Here’s a lil photodump of the place…

And then there was the best part... and honestly this might be one of my favourite things I did in Japan... I GOT TO HAND FEED TURTLES!!!!!

Tame turtles! Turtles you could feed! By hand! Turtles that would eat out of your hand!!! :D

You could stroke the turtle shell! I cannot emphasise enough how happy this made me!!! :D

I ordered tonkatsu through UberEats for dinner 😋
