Have you ever met a celebrity before? If so, what was that experience like?

I have met many. Some good and bad experiences.

I have friends who still work in Hollywood, so before I left L.A. for good, it was quite common for me to go to social events with them at the Writer's Guild of America (West) offices, private gatherings, and film festival screenings interacting with famous people (actors, directors, writers, producers etc). What you learn while living around that environment is that all that glitters ain't gold. It's all manufactured business that thrives on feast or famine based on public whims, and stars act accordingly depending on their status as A-listers or D-Listers. People are desperate to find/keep jobs, and self esteem is low for a lot of famous people that you wouldn't believe suffered from it. There are also some amazing celebs who deserve so much more, but they don't get the props they deserve.

My faves in a room have been Robert Townsend, Isaiah Washington, Robert Guillaume (I spent a whole day with him at his house just talking about Black Hollywood history before he passed. He loved Black people and told me stories about Sammy Davis Jr.), Debbie Allen, David Simone (who created "The Wire" and almost hired me for a show), Larenz Tate, Anika Noni Rose, Alan Rickman, Frank Darabont, Mo'Nique, Courtney B. Vance, Queen Latifah, Ava Durvernay, Danny Boyle, Mara Brock Akil, Gina Prince Bythewood, Megan Good, and Jeff Goldblum (with his fine old ass playing piano), Clive Barker, Rachel True, Keith David, and Tony Todd.

The worst I've met: Spike Lee and Bill Cosby. Two unpleasant people. I'll add Neil Gaiman, too. Met him at a few SF/F events through panels I did, and he gave me the ick. Real smarmy fellow, and well...you see where he ended up recently.

Addendum: I forgot to add Nichelle Nichols. Loved her! I told her she needed to charge more money for her fan photos at Comic Con years ago. Told her there was a Black Panel and she came to it!

Anthony Marshon Davis Jr. (March 11, 1993) nicknamed “AD”, is a basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks. He plays the power forward and center positions. A ten-time NBA All-Star, he has been named to four All-NBA First Teams and five NBA All-Defensive Teams. In 2021, he was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. He is regarded as one of the greatest power forwards of all time.

He played one season of college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats when he was a first-team All-American and the Consensus National Player of the Year. He won the USBWA National Freshman of the Year, NABC Defensive Player of the Year, and the Pete Newell Big Man Award. He led the NCAA in blocks and set Southeastern Conference and NCAA Division I freshman single-season blocked shots records. He led Kentucky to a national championship and was named the most outstanding player of the 2012 NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament.

He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. He became an All-Star for the first time and led the NBA in blocked shots per game. He has become the youngest player to score at least 59 points in an NBA game. He was named the recipient of the NBA All-Star Game MVP Award after setting an All-Star Game scoring record of 52 points. He has won gold medals with the US National Team on their 2012 Olympic team and 2014 World Cup team, making him the first player in basketball history to win an NCAA title, NBA title, Olympic gold medal, and FIBA World Cup.

He is the son of Anthony Davis Sr. and Erainer. He has a twin sister and an older sister. His cousin Keith Chamberlain played professional basketball in Germany.

He married Marlen Polanco (2021). They have three children together.

60. Most visually stunning movie you’ve seen?

This is such a normie pick for filmblr but The Fall by Tarsem Singh. It's popular for a reason. The vistas are gorgeous, the costumes are next level - it played a huge role in the development of my love of film and I doubt I'd be this autistic about movies without it.

(honorable mention to The Evil Dead because as my boyfriend reminded me, my reaction to claymation oatmeal gore was extremely visceral and in fact, stunned. So under the law of the letter that one got me)

7. Ever been/are you such a hardcore fan of an actor actress you watched/will watch any movie they were/will be in?

I do this all the time but most notably David Haydn-Jones (ketch from spn) there's just something about the way he plays sad eyed single dads in Hallmark Christmas movies that I find so enriching.

Wolf girl this stupid ass made for tv movie from 2001 that no one but me and the people I drag kicking and screaming into with me have seen 😭 BUT LISTEN it's on Tubi right now and everyone should consider watching it with the caveats of it is about a freak show so if you've got triggers that might be affected by the themes that you'd find in a story about a freak show tred with caution.
