Preview: Hellraiser Quartet Of Torment Limited Edition 4K UHD Bluray
In the 1980s, Clive Barker changed the face of horror fiction, throwing out the rules to expose new vistas of terror and beauty, expanding the horizons for every genre writer who followed him. With Hellraiser, his first feature film, he did the same for cinema. Hedonist Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman) thinks he has reached the limits of earthly pleasure. But a mysterious puzzle box will take himâŚ

The Phantom of the Opera (1989)
I know itâs gauche to discuss a movieâs marketing instead of its content, but the 1989 adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is an especially peculiar case. Clearly, the best way to sell the film would be to piggyback off star Robert Englundâs success in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, especially since Freddy Kreugerâs make-up designer Kevin Yagher tagged along to apply the exact sameâŚ

"Emily..." Randall began, almost tearfully, but it was June and Wilhelm who spoke up over him-not to agree, not to rush her out the door and warn her not to come back, but instead to ask her to stay.
"Please," Wilhelm began, as June reached out to take the young woman's cold hand, stopping her as he continued, "W-Would you stay, just a little longer, lass? Really, we...we'd like it if you stayed. I-I promise, y-you're not intruding; Junie and I weren't able to sleep anyways..."
"You saved our son's life, and you brought him back home to us," June continued gently, as Randall sat up a little, just as surprised as Emily was at this sudden turn of events, this change in reaction in his parents. "We...we can't thank you enough for that. Please, won't you sit down? I...I think we have a lot to talk about...and a lot to apologize for."
At this, Randall's eyes widened further, as he looked between Emily, his mother, and his father, that surprise turning to a sort of tentative relief, as his mother encouraged Emily to make herself comfortable, while June moved to the kitchen to put on a pot of tea, to perhaps soothe their frazzled nerves. She hoped the young woman (not a monster, she thought to herself, but a young woman) would accept, and hear out what the Pace parents had to say.
#((i'm sorry: an a.i. just isn't nearly as threatening as the soul of a serial killer!))#((the terror of 'child's play' is defidently that andy is so little-he's this adorable little six-year-old who makes your heart melt))#((watching him make his mom breakfast on his own birthday and getting excited about having a good guy of his own))#((and so you don't want anything to happen to him! he's being preyed upon by what he thought was his friend))#((his talking good guy doll-even worse; chucky told andy that he was sent by andy's dead father to play with him))#((which adds a cruel twist to things-andy just wanted a friend; and now he's in danger; and no one believes him))#((not until the end! so having andy be older; be attacked by an a.i. doll who should NOT be that strong like you said))#((and have more allies on his side; it really does take away that fear factor; that level of suspense!))#((and there really is so much love in the main franchise; as opposed to the 2019 reboot))#((which feels more like your standard cash grab! it's almost a family affair))#((considering the actress who played andy's mother in the first film married kevin yagher))#((who designed and built the chucky animatronic; i think alex vincent's little sister played chucky))#((for the scene where he runs behind andy's aunt maggie shortly before she goes pushed out the window))#((and of course brad dourif's daughter fiona is a part of the franchise now; having played nica pierce))#((and even playing a young charles lee ray in flashbacks for the tv show!))#((there really is so much love and care behind it; the kind of love and care you just don't see in the reboot!))#outofhatboxes#beatingheart-bride#V:Dark Shadows

"Weird Al" Yankovic released the single "Fat" on April 12, 1988, as the lead single from his album Even Worse. A parody of Michael Jackson's "Bad," the video is even shot on the same set as Jackson's Martin Scorsese-directed video. The fat makeup in the video is created by the master Kevin Yagher. Conceived as something of a sequel to Al's earlier hit Michael Jackson parody "Eat It," "Fat" ultimately peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100.

October 29th: Meso's Honorable Mentions | Child's Play
Child's Play was released in 1988 and was directed by Tom Holland (no not that Tom Holland). On his sixth birthday, Andy Barclay (played by Alex Vincent) gets the toy he so desperately wanted: a Good Guy Doll. The boy is naturally ecstatic, but his mother Karen (Catherine Hicks) becomes wary when peculiar things begin happening, such as Andy claiming the doll is talking to him and doing things around the house. It isn't until Andy mentions the recently-deceased serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) that Karen begins to believe that not only is her son telling the truth, but that there is something far darker going on beneath the surface.
While the majority of horror franchises have ignored or retconned various aspects of their past films, the Child's Play series is one of the very few that has maintained a rather consistent storyline throughout all seven of its films and even into its TV series (although fans of the franchise such as myself will tell you that it is definitely not without it's flaws). The movies vary greatly in tone and style, although they stick true to the comedic presence that has been present in the film series since the beginning. The thing that probably endears most to the franchise including myself is the fact that the Child's Play series has always been a sort of family affair, both in a figurative sense and a literal one: the majority of the cast and crew have stuck with the series since the beginning and even Brad Dourif's own daughter Fiona Dourif would go on to star in several of the later films as well as the television show. Child's Play is also considered one of the most queer-friendly franchises in horror as well, primarily due to the fact that the creator of the series Don Mancini himself is gay.
I could not find any platforms where you can watch it for free.
Content Warnings for the Film (may contain spoilers): violence, sexual assault (interrupted), jumpscares
Once again, get ready for some behind the scenes info because this movie is absolutely top-notch when it comes to its practical effects.
Although Don Mancini described Chucky's look in his script that were then made into sketches by producer David Kirschner, we have special effects artist Kevin Yagher (who had previously worked on Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and several Nightmare on Elm Street movies) to thank for bringing Chucky to life (he also met and married Catherine Hicks [Karen Barclay] while working with this franchise, and they're still together today. I just thought that was sweet). In total there were nine different animatronics used for Chucky, each having their own specific purposes such as walking, gestures, and even flailing around. Usually groups of nine would work on one animatronic with one guy operating the eye movement and eye lids, another doing eyebrows, ect. One of my favorite things about the Chucky animatronics are the fact that as Chucky becomes more and more human, so does the doll he's trapped in. The plastic sheen becomes more fleshy, his eyes more sunken, and it even gain's Ray's receding hairline. When Chucky wasn't an animatronic, he was played by Ed Gale, who wore suit and did a fantastic job attempting to replicate the movements of the animatronics. Also just a fun fact Chris Sarandon, who played Detective Mike Norris in this film, also played Prince Humperdinck in The Princess Bride and voiced Jack fucking Skellington. If you want to see more behind the scenes info, please check out this video on it.

#since this is the âfinaleâ I'm going to be doing at least 2 or so movies until the 31st#so tonight y'all get some Brad Dourif with this one and the next film that I'll post in just a bit#seriously his acting in the second film I'm featuring tonight is what I believe is one of Dourif's most underrated performances#fuckin love this dude#also as someone who has a serious dislike of kids I swear to god Alex Vincent as Andy is one of the cutest fucking things I've ever seen#he was fucking SIX when he starred in that movie and his acting in it is one of my favorite bits of child acting ever#meso's movies#child's play
