In all seriousness though, I don't blame you for not knowing this story if you don't play Ovenbreak. Kingdom doesn't really explain anything at all (tbh I think they were counting on people to already know? But most of the CRK fandom is Kingdom only, unfortunately. Only oldies like me know the ancient texts at this point)

Once upon a time (we do not know when, they never say. I personally assume ancient times), Fire Spirit was a regular mortal man. His original name, life, and how he came to be where he ended up are a mystery; all we know is that he somehow became trapped within an eternal flame, which instantly began eating away at him, burning him alive

Pitaya Dragon happened upon him by chance, and was intrigued and amused by Fire Spirit's persistance. For all intents and purposes, he should've already died - but he hasn't. He keeps stubbornly clinging to life, even beyond what should be possible for mortals. Very interesting.

Fire Spirit begs Pitaya for help, for mercy, for salvation, even offering to give them whatever they want in exchange. Pitaya is yet more intrigued by this; a mortal, making an offer to a dragon? When the opposite is what tends to be true?

Pitaya agrees. How can he not? This is too interesting an opportunity to pass up, no? But far be it from him to make it so easy. Fire Spirit can end his dance with death if he drinks from a goblet of Lava Juice - which is highly dangerous magic lava that normally kills people lol

Fire Spirit takes it well. Unusually so. Pitaya is even more impressed by him. Thus, Pitaya gladly gives him the Red Dragon's Bead, an item containing a portion of their power

Fire Spirit takes it. His wounds are instantly mended. He is freed from the confines of the eternal flame. Now HE is the eternal flame, body and soul burned to ashes and born anew. Once a mortal, now an Elemental

So yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. Fire Spirit was about to die, Pitaya found him still fighting for his life, Fire Spirit begs him for help, Pitaya is impressed with his apparent fortitude and says he'll help if he does something for him in turn, Fire Spirit agrees, he's given the Red Dragon's Bead and is thus resurrected and made into a new man. With the bead, he is immortal, has immense power, and is essentially co-owner of the Dragon's Valley; however, the price seems to be that his strength and life force are permanently bound to Pitaya's, and he must do his part in upholding cosmic order by guarding the Flow of Life for all eternity. (And... Whatever it was that Pitaya eventually wished for. Whatever it was...)

Might be a hot take as a bkdk and tgck truther here, but I find izuocha endlessly fascinating, beautiful, but also tearfully tragic.

I see their love for each other as something representative of their innocence and naivety when they only knew so little about who they were, and what was to come.

I think the main barrier of their relationship is that its rooted in how they see each other very idealistically, specifically that they're attached to the image of their Best Heroic Selves, and not the deeply selfish, destructive, freaky, and egotistical parts of them. To each other, they need to keep fulfilling that image or else that same person they looked up to would almost die in front of them, and that would be too cruel. Although that hero is still there, that same person they looked up to is not the same now because of...well...everything.

Izuku had barely even talked to girls when he first met her. She was Izuku's first ever real friend (Sorry Kats, everyone and him knows he was terrible), so he saved her in that entrance exam even if it was so dangerous. She gave a new meaning to his derogatory nickname just by being a friend that believed in him. After that, she saved him several more times (Blackwhip and Megaphone are the biggest samples iirc). It makes perfect sense that she is Deku's hero.

Ochako hardly knew what it meant to be a hero when she first got into UA. Just by reaching out to some kid tripping, she made a new friend who would then save her in that exam, then save him again in return. This boy then became someone who was always working so hard to save everyone in trouble, and she realized she wanted to be just like him too. "I want to save people"

But...Deku changes. The weight of One for All is on his shoulders and he needs someone to carry this burden with him. He continues to want to save other people at the expense of himself, still not letting his true selfishness and ego ever show- and it only grows more and more unbearable.

Then...Ochako fell in love with Himiko. Truly, relentlessly, selfishly and devotedly in love with a girl who then dies giving her blood to her- the greatest expression of love Himiko could ever give.

Not that they can't love each other because of this happening (and...so many other things oh god), I'm honestly not sure how to explain it- But them ending up together after losing that innocence and naivety? After Ochako will forever grieve the girl who showed her love in its most beautiful and ugly form? After Izuku changed so fundamentally as a person that the butterflies of a nice girl talking to you doesn't exist anymore? After that simple image of being a hero and being in love has completely changed for them both?

Even so, I believe they still love each other. There is no label I know of that can properly describe them though. They are each other's image of being a hero when it comes to saving people. Aside from Shoto, no one else can grasp the grief of the person you tried to save dying in your hands. They would no doubt try to cope with these losses together, and just try to get better together...but so much has changed. They've changed. The world changed. What are they now? Who are they now?

What's on the TV? Pt IV

Part I, Part II, Part III for context.

As you well know by now, i've started this series after I watched this scene. It's a scene that literally drives me insane Charlie Day's style when I think about it because it's so META, so GOOD, so full of subtext that I can't believed it's placed in such an awful episode like "He's Our You".

If you've read the Part I of the series then you also know that I only partially credit the writers for coming up with such a great scene for three main reasons: 1. as said, "He's Our You" is a bad episode. Not bad as if "badly written" but bad for the implications and for what it wants to say without saying it. Which makes me think that, OF COURSE, the writers knew one thing or two about subtext and they decided to play it in Sawyer's defense rather than Juliet's; 2. speaking of Sawyer, I wrote that this scene gives more value to Sawyer's pov rather than Juliet's because you can't write a character like Juliet saying shit like that and then... fail to follow through (But more on this later); 3. I personally needed a mirror scene where Kate sees Juliet and Sawyer and says something similar to Jack or even to herself, Jack's not the point here. Well, nevermind, Jack IS always the point in this fucking show and I'll get back to him and Juliet at the end of this post. So buckle up because... as it turns out.... I was fucking right.

The thing is that since I've started writing some more or less "serious" meta about LOST, I've started picking up some returning patterns in the writers' styles&preferences. It didn't surprise me that I found this little gem in ANOTHER Sayid-centric episode ("He's Our You" is about Sayid in case you've forgotten) in ANOTHER scene with Sawyer and... a female character:

[Kate moves the curtain (!!!!!!!!!!) aside and looks out the window, then turns and walks toward Sawyer.] KATE: So what, I'm your prisoner (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)? SAWYER: If that sorta thing turns you on. [Kate sits on the bed. Getting no reaction from Kate, Sawyer looks remorseful. Kate looks at Sawyer, angry.]

KATE: What are you doing here with Locke? SAWYER: [mystified] I'm not with him. KATE: Yeah, you are, James. SAWYER: Then what are you doing with Jack? KATE: I went with Jack because I believe he can get us off this island. [Sawyer shakes his head and approaches Kate.] SAWYER: I guess that's the difference between us. [Sawyer sits next to Kate.] SAWYER: [continues] I ain't looking to leave. KATE: Why not? SAWYER: [considers] 'Cause, I ain't got nothin' back there for me. KATE: [flabbergasted] And what's here that's so much better?

SAWYER: Why do you want to go back, Kate? Seem to recall you being shuttled off to jail before we landed here. So if you think there's anything waiting for you back home other than handcuffs, then you really don’t know how the world works. Look around us, Freckles. We've got roofs over our heads. Electricity, showers, beds. KATE: Yeah, how long, Sawyer? How long do you think we can play house (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)? SAWYER: [lowers voice] Why don't we find out? [lowers his head earnestly]

DON'T YOU SEE??????? DON'T YOU FUCKING SEEEEEEE? I'm SHAKING here because this is THE SAME FUCKING SCENEEEEEEEEEE! ajhcfjdhvfgurehoughw ouryewquèR!!!!

I'm not gonna parallel the two scenes line by line because I trust you can do the math but PLEASE, I WAAAAS SOOOO RIGHT!!! once again, LOST writers had some incredible woman on their writing hands and they failed her! So WHAT'S NEW? You might say. Well, nothing EXCEPT what I'm trying to prove with this series is that the POTENTIAL for these chracters to have sense was there ALL ALONG and I'll prove it to you once and for all by the end of this post, I promise. But first, let's talk about Sawyer.

I've just written that what I'll call from now on "The Fucking Curtain Scene" is a scene that doesn't take into account Juliet's pov and I think that I can finally say that it wasn't just me "reading into things" but the writers' precise intent. We have two identical scenes (both set in the barracks, both about a woman and a man who are in a (semi) relationship, both are about "getting off" the island) where the thing that matters the most is that ONE character is the same: Sawyer.

We have two scenes with two different women in two different seasons written by the same writers ABOUT the same (male) character. They were NOT taking into account Juliet's pov like they were not actually taking into account Kate's pov in this scene. Like, both scenes serve the purpose of telling us stuff about Sawyer, not about Kate and Juliet. And you know how the old saying goes... if the same stuff happen to your character it's time to look into your character's motivations, needs&wants.

So what do these two scenes tell us about Sawyer, since they're about him? I'd say two main things: Sawyer doesn't WANT to leave the island and Sawyer NEEDS another person, possibly an attractive woman, to stay on the island with him. And who, WHOOOOOO I ASK YOU, is the person who's tasked with the heavy duty of getting people OFF the island? WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

It's, of course, Jack Fucking Shephard.

So when in my part II I CORRECTLY, I might add today, said that the real issue, the real thing that bothered Juliet wasn't Kate but Jack I was so fucking riiiiiiiight! Because what does Kate say in the scene from "The Economist"? She says that she believes that Jack can get them off the island! And so does Juliet by the end of season 5! Juliet's not bothered by the love Sawyer may or may not feel for Kate, but she's bothered by Jack and what he stands for, aka the possibility of LEAVING and, implicitly, the tacit reproach that she made the wrong choice (I'm speaking from Juliet's pov, NOT saying I think she made the wrong choice). It was POSSIBLE to leave the island and she DECIDED to stay. I mean, this would've been so, SOOOOOOOOOOO, SOOOOO much better than what we have in the show!!!

Because yes, Juliet giving what she desired the most to Sawyer was wonderful and she was a hurt child of divorece and she thought she screwed everything etc but.... I would've been so much.... NEW, refreshing? rarely seen before?... if we got to see a character, specifically a woman, who did what Juliet did because she thought it would set her free. In other words, it would've been so much better if the show said clealry what it only said in subtext: Juliet's storyline and Jack's storyline are the same but different in themes. And so, if we take this aspect into account, Jack's storyline in s5 is about LOVE (more correctly, heartbreak), while Juliet's about POWER (more correctly, agency).

Both Juliet and Kate have self-described themselves and/or have been portrayed as PRISONERS. Aside from the general theme of the story, Juliet and Kate are doubly prisoners in that they MUST perform being a woman in a story. And so the actual character who "sacrifices" himself out of love is called a leader and a hero, while the character whose whoooole storyline is about agency and lack thereof (even in her love life!!!) ends up dying for... love. NOOOOOOOOO! Swap their stories! Let Jack live his heroine's journey dream and let Juliet face her issues with agency and power!!! LET.THAT.WOMAN.GET.OFF.THAT.ISLAND.OR.AT LEAST.LET.HER.DIE.WHILE.TRYING.TO.FFS.

The secret to good school is good funding. One day, I dream of a world where all schools have options for their children. Personally, I think it's pretty important for that sort of thing to start out early. See if you're actually into that think BEFORE you're 100k in debt and hating your life.

My area has some awesome architecture. One time, I wanted to do a project on it, and my teacher said it was too complicated. I cried, like genuinely left that class, found a place to sit down, and just cried. The buildings were pretty, and I wanted to talk about them. I really do love the amount of thought put into those buildings. The people who made them are dead, but their art is still there. A bunch of dudes 100 years ago sat down and designed this theater. Then more came in and built it. And here I am, sitting there.

Architecture is so awesome in the way that it's interactive. It can survive longer than any human.

also sameee my city has a lot of old architecture (especially my school. some of the buildings are falling apart but they're very old and very pretty) and im like just in awe of it like architecture is an art but it's more than an art because unlike a lot of art it's not just something to look at it's somewhere someone lives or works or goes with friends and makes memories like a lot of art doesnt have a practical function but architecture does and it serves as a setting for so much of people's lives and that's really impactful and so awesome because there's architecture everywhere and it's all so beautiful *dreamy sigh*

also sucks that ur teacher sucked i hate when teachers/profs won't let you do projects on what ur passionate abt like passion is the basis of learning why aren't u supporting that....

there's no actual confirmation on this, but my theory is that they were liney gifts probably from auston. or they all talked about getting them. i believe mitch and auston have had theirs from before bunts was on the team (i even think mitch had a different 16 necklace at one point), but considering 583416 were the closest and the only people i'm aware of on the team that have their numbers on chains like that... i don't think it's a leap to say they talked about it as a group/they were a gift.

Just thought of an AU where the sailor team doesn’t fully awaken and it’s just Sailor Moon and Sailor V fighting bad guys, not working together but not working against each other either, and over time they develop a mutual respect for each other and become somewhat close without ever revealing personal details or their secret identities to each other. When they get to high school, Usagi and Minako become really good friends and are very close, but it still takes them years to discover each other’s secret identities.
