« Shubhendu Sharma studied his entire life to be an engineer. [...] “I went into supply development. Our role was to understand the entire process of how a tire is made, or a small part like a nut or a bolt. We would go to the suppliers, and then to their suppliers, until we got to the source of the raw materials. And I started seeing that almost everything starts from a natural resource, and it all ends up in a junkyard. There is nowhere else for it to go but the junkyard.”
[...] What he realized, when he considered every step in the process of making a car, was deeply unsettling to him. “Is it for the good of humanity that we’re making ten million cars every year? Or is it because we want to keep our jobs, keep our machinery running? Because one day, maybe it’ll be the hundredth generation, there won’t be anything left to convert from a natural resource to end up in a junkyard.” That’s when he met the Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, who had been hired by Toyota to plant one of his tiny forests at the factory’s campus in Bangalore.
[...] Miyawaki had been invited to explain his method of planting a dense, rapidly growing, self-sustaining forest on any small plot of unused land. An area the size of a few parking spaces would work, although a typical tiny forest is about the size of a tennis court. His ideas stood in sharp contrast to the industrial production cycle Sharma was starting to question. [...He] volunteered to help Miyawaki plant the forest at the Toyota campus. The method had been rigorously tested and systematized. It involved densely planting local native species in a plot of land that had been intensely cultivated and inoculated with soil microbes. Nothing more was required, beyond heavy mulch and a little supplemental water for the first few years. The roots would form a massive web, the trees would grow rapidly, and within a few years, the forest would be practically impenetrable, making it the ideal host for insects, birds, and other wildlife.
Once Sharma saw the method in action, he tried it at home, installing a tiny forest in his backyard. “This was so much more joyous than doing anything else. I could not get this idea out of my mind, that this was something I should be doing for the rest of my life.”
In 2010—just three years after that fateful meeting with Miyawaki—he quit his job. Today he installs tiny forests around the world and teaches people how to do so in their own backyards. As a result of his work, at least 4.5 million trees have been planted in forty-four cities across North and Central America, Europe, the Middle East, and India.
Sharma emphasizes that planting a Miyawaki forest is no substitute for conserving ancient, wild forests. What he does is not reforestation but afforestation, a process of planting a forest on land that is currently treeless. These pockets of forest, whether they’re installed on corporate campuses, in city parks, in unused areas around freeways or airports, or behind someone’s house, can still behave like natural forests by supporting wildlife, sequestering carbon, and controlling erosion. They’re also beautiful, especially in a backyard. Even a tiny forest evolves as the shrubs and smaller trees give way and the larger canopy trees mature. Leaves fall and build a new layer of mulch. Small fruits and nuts attract wildlife. Birds build nests, and caterpillars give way to butterflies. It’s an ever-changing natural panorama. “I think having a forest at your own house is probably the greatest luxury anyone can have,” he said. »

big fan of headcanoning that kid doumeki killed the class chicken because nobody else wanted to and he was already being picked on for being Inexplicably Weird and Smelling Like Death so his classmates probably thought it would work as a bullying tactic. he handled it like a champ and it makes sense that he would but it's still kind of sad
#big fan of like. taking a random one off comedy line in holic and making it a whole thing#biiiiig big big big fan of doumeki and himawari being Weird Kids that due to various factors appear 'normal' in high school#like himawari mostly masked her problems and became sort of superficially a chill everygirl who is friends w everyone and besties w noone#and meki faced a Lot Of Shit and then managed to shrug it off and his attitude and looks in hs meant he got mega popular#not that he cares or anything#also a big fan of those two either being in middle school or elementary together#i think at a point where meki hasnt become a 100% idgafer but hima already seems 'normal' theres a lot of potential#i also just generally like the idea of them being long term oomfs#like they both kinda saw each other before they solidified fully as the people they would become its so juicyyy#watanuki as the person who seems out of place at a glance but is very obviously among likeminded people oh its so lovely isnt it#i just . ghghhh this friendship trio means so much to meee theyre so cool theyre so neat#i like filling in the gaps in clamps official lore with fun stuff. fun thought exercise#like for example clamp being like 'yeah doumeki went through some Shit due to being sick+gender stuff and it shaped him as a person'#so much to consider...so much to supplement...#this is especially true w himawari where she gets less specific focus it makes me wanna deep dive and make a bunch of headcanons#same for kohane actually but its a bit trickier cause we dont see much of her as an adult and when we do i dont reread that very oftennnnnm#for obvious reasonsss#even though it wasnt even like. romantic it fucks me up a bit#anyway i like the idea that adult hane is kinda like. himari penguindrum#like when himari is introspective and stuff#that kind of hard to explain depth#i also like the idea that kohane could turn out a few different ways depending on the au context cause shes still forming as a person#most of the time we see her#in catverse shes kinda different and manifests a slightly different kinda personality as a teenager bcs i think itd be interesting#idk im just waffling now

Because I feel like it, here's my entire Podcasts & Shows Section on Spotify.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So... yeah. There's a grand total of 114 podcasts on there. And I've listened to probably like 6 to completion lol.
Anyway, I'm at the beginning of season 3 of Tower 4, but that's the last season that's out so far, and it's summertime now so I should have a lot of free time to get into podcasts again when I'm not working, so if anyone wants to recommend which one I should get into next, I would love to hear it!
For some context, I HAVE listened to:
The Moonlit Road Podcast (apparently 1 episode, so don't even count this lol)
Heart Starts Pounding (65 episodes of currently 119)
Symptomatic (Completely except for a couple of the hour long treatment specials)
Alone in the Woods (4 episodes of currently 91)
RUN, FOOL! (The episodes aren't numbered so it's hard to know, but like 46 out of the 83 that are out currently if I did the math right, which I probably didn't)
MrBallen's Medical Mysteries (44 episodes of currently 86)
Urban Legends (Okay I don't know what the fuck happened with this podcast, I swear I listened to the episodes from oldest to newest, but then I left and came back to the podcast and I swear I haven't ever listened to some of the allegedly "oldest" episodes and I HAVE listened to some of the newer ones. So, I don't fucking know, half? But I could probably do a full re-listen)
Hello from the Hallowoods (127 episodes of currently I think 190? 3 Seasons of 5)
The Cellar Letters (60 episodes of currently 80. 3 Seasons of 4)
Everything is Alive (22 episodes of 42? Once again, if I'm doing the math right and trusting Podchaser to tell me the right number of total episodes because the episodes aren't numbered)
Bookmark'd with Sara & Des (literally 1 episode of currently 94)
The Unknown Subject (9 episodes of currently 196. 1 Season of 8)
Brain Leak (3 episodes of 72)
Creepy (You know, fuck this, I'm not doing the math anymore. I was gonna be on Day 4 - Killswitch of the 1,073 episodes that are out currently.)
Camp Here & There (Completely!)
Alice Isn't Dead (10 episodes of 56. 1 Season of 3)
The Magnus Archives (Completely!)
Toshiden (25 episodes of 35)
Mayfair Watchers Society (26 episodes of currently 59)
Tower 4 (I think like 23 episodes of currently 53 because I'm counting the prologues. 2 Seasons of 3)
30 Morbid Minutes (Archive.org says the episode I was gonna be on was 7, so if that's right, which I don't think it is because I'm sure I listened to more episodes than that, 6 episodes of currently 110. But I don't think that's right but I don't feel like scrolling through three years of backlog to get to where I am.)
The Mistholme Museum (29 episodes of 79. 3 Seasons of 6)
Destination Terror (Whatever episode number Port Arthur is out of currently 128.)
Writing with Ana Neu (Whatever episode number "How to Write a Book 2023" is out of currently 103.)
Tales from the Break Room (83 episodes of 162)
The Midnight Library (10 episodes of currently 113. 1 Season of 11)
Unexplained Encounters (139 episodes of currently 523)
Freaky Folklore ("The Eilean Mor Lighthouse Mystery" episode of 183)
Very Scary People (6 episodes of 21. 1 Season of 3)
Distractible ("The Fairest Episode Ever" episode of 335)
Welcome to Night Vale (228 episodes of 345)
Crime Junkie ("MURDERED: Rose Tapia" episode of 459)
The Edge of Sleep (Completely!)
~
I don't know why I did this to myself, but y'know, sometimes you just gotta give yourself an unnecessary task so you don't go insane. Except I think this task took my sanity, too lol. Anyway, TLDR: I've fully listened to The Magnus Archives, Camp Here & There, and The Edge of Sleep for audio dramas, and Symptomatic for non-audio dramas. Also I have complicated relationships with Hello from the Hallowoods, Welcome to Night Vale, and The Mistholme Museum because I've listened to so many episodes already but half-forgotten them so now anytime I think about them and want to go listen I don't because I don't know if I want to re-listen or not, even though I just should anyway.
Anyway, can you tell I listen to a variety of podcasts? Lol.
#I haven't listened to any true crime in so long#bc I used to listen to it so much that I got burnt out and felt like it was all the same#which is actually horrible because they're all individuals who suffered horrible tragedies#and a lot of these podcasts require such a specific mood#like i'm not gonna listen to the unknown subject unless i'm super into criminal minds#i only started it because i was ATROCIOUSLY in my criminal minds phase and needed something criminal minds related to watch or listen to#while i was on my laptop playing minecraft#plus all my medical mystery podcasts#and one reading one and one writing one#and 80 billion scary story ones that are all the same that i also got burnt out on#so anyway#recommendations encouraged!#because it's summer and i should try to put a dent in this#if i listened to like three of these over the summer i would consider this a successful summer#plus camp here and there season 2 is coming out so that'll be great :)#but looking up specifics for these podcasts got my interest in a few of them sparked again#like I didn't know there was more than one season of very scary people!#there's THREE now!#Listened to the first season just because donnie wahlberg narrates it and i love him from blue bloods#but two more seasons with him!#13 year old me would be thrilled#but i also didn't know the mistholme museum was finished and ended and wasn't making any new episodes anymore :(#i also didn't realize i had started season 4 of it like jesus i was way further in it than i realized#anyway#audio drama#fiction podcasts#podcasts#somebody help me choose which podcast to listen to after finishing tower 4 for the summer#something that can supplement my supernatural and demon slayer media consumptions#something i can listen to while clearing land in minecraft

Like OK so I've been reading a fic with trans wolfwood in it that is so. HONEST. About how it affected him and still affects him. In a way that's very much not an average cis writer portrayal of a trans character.
Like. Either this writer is trans or did plenty of research, but it just feels REAL to me. And it has me thinking about my own way of writing trans Wolfwood.
I'm not there yet. But I've been thinking about it. The ways that what the EOM did fucked him up... but it also acted as HRT that affirmed his gender. So what do you do when you're in a body you don't recognize, but looks much more like a man than ever before? There's some gender euphoria in a way, but dysphoria at the same time bc you didn't grow into this. You didn't watch yourself transition. Suddenly you just Were this, and it's not you, but also it's nice to finally be seen as a man, but it also feels wrong to feel grateful for any part of what they did to you...
On and on and on
You see? This is what I want to think about with him. This is why trans Wolfwood is so compelling to me. It's just so Complicated, he'd have such Complicated feelings about his body and the way he lives with it. He learns this new body, it starts to feel more like his, but he also mourns the fact that he didn't get to watch it grow into this like he should've.
That kind of thing.
#speculation nation#itnl shit#tagging it bc these r things relevant to itnl ww. because. he is trans☺️#TRANS WOLFWOOD MY BELOVED!!!!!!!!!!#i wanna do more research into trans things. ive already done a lot. but like#into the actual physical side of it all. the effects of HRT. all those messy little details that people dont often focus on.#some months ago i skimmed thru this writing guide on how to write trans men. and i think i wanna revisit it#read it more slowly and thoroughly.#bc im confident in my ability to write trans characters. considering the fact that im not cis myself.#but im not a trans man. so there r some Things that i just dont know about by virtue of not having experience with HRT#so. research! supplementing my existing knowledge with the perspectives of the actual people im writing about.#and so it goes when ur writing about an experience that is not entirely your own.#it matters to me to make my writing of trans men as realistic as possible.#even with the messy details that people normally shy away from. Especially them.#i pride myself on my realism as much as is within my means of capturing it.#realistic emotions. realistic reactions. realistic bodies.#i am Going to write a trans wolfwood that is So realistic. as much as possible.#(i keep specifying ww with this even tho vash is trans also just bc vash is a bit more uhhhh not human lol#so the definition of what makes him trans is a bit more loose. still inferred by real life experiences#but he wouldnt have the same sorts of experiences with HRT. or gender expression in general#so i feel less of a pressure to capture it as fully accurate to the real life human experience as possible. if that makes sense.)

... A h .
I did the math today, and figured out something that could explain two of my health struggles lately.
Discovery: Between the magnesium gummies, the relaxation gummies, and the melatonin gummies, I'm eating 18 grams of sugar before bed EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.
This is a problem for two reasons.
1.) Sugar right before bed makes it hard for me to fall asleep and/or sleep through the night. (Part of my current sleep deprivation is that I can't fall asleep lately, and another part is that I keep waking up in the middle of the night / too-early in the morning.)
2.) I get reactive hypoglycemia, which probably explains why I've been having awful sugar crashes during the work day, craving sugar/carbs in the morning even before my stomach meds kick in (and thus before I can digest things, which has Terrible Consequences if I eat before the meds kick in), and MIGHT also explain my appetite fluctuations lately. (Also: something-something, insulin resistance, possibly? This would be Bad because diabetes runs in both sides of my family. I do NOT want insulin resistance.)
I usually get sugar crashes after eating ~15g of added sugar. And I can't have any protein or fiber with the gummies to prevent the crash because I can't eat right before bed. (Or, again, Terrible Consequences.)
Potential questionably-researched thing with mostly anecdotal evidence: Sugar is also thought to be inflammatory. My increased back pain, tendonitis soreness, and gastritis-feeling issues lately might be from the daily massive sugar intake, too.
So, pro tip. If you're like me and you need OTC supplements but don't want to support Amazon:
There's a supplement website called Puritan's Pride that usually has the vast majority of its stock on a BOGO sale! They do herbals, digestive support, vitamins and minerals, targeted supplement compounds, it's actually a pretty complete catalog and they offer free shipping (at a threshold), subscriptions (for 20% off!), and everything I've ever gotten from them has worked really well. They also have many things for "buy 2, get 3 free", which is an INSANELY good deal.
I don't know if they do international shipping, but everything I've ever needed was on there, and then some.
I don't have an affiliate link, so this isn't a shill. I'm genuinely just giving advice here. They've never done me wrong.
So I just went on there and ordered a bunch of sleep supplements to try because I can't fall asleep early enough on a work night without them. /:P (Don't get DSPS, kids! It Sucks!)
Will probably be blogging the results because I need to keep track of what works and what doesn't.

Having realizations while looking through some of the newer logs again
#rat rambles#oni posting#guy who constantly talks abt the questionable ethics of the duplicant project and relating projects when the inevitable trajectory that it#has pointed out several times is followed :0#also do know I actually was in the files looking at stuff I just saw that the in game name for this log was literally ulti and had to doubl#check that it was actually in game before I started yapping abt it#anyways it makes sense that dupes and dupe related technology would be considered for use outside of space exploration but knowing for sure#that not only were they being considered but prototypes and such were being actively made and tested is soooo interesting in a fucked up wa#combined with that one other log it seems like bionic dupes were likely in development for various sorts of labor supplementation#which can further be seen in the humanitarian aid log where the idea of bionic labor supplementation was copied from gravitas by the#vertex institute so in many ways this is the only form of duplicant that the greater public could have any vague knowledge on#I'm very interested to see how the gravitas vertex institute beef grows btw I <3 fictional political drama#and I say political since these sorts of institutions seem to have a lot of influence and power on oni earth and the vertex institute is#evidently involved in the fuel wars in some way and gravitas with the temporal bow also likely has a strong political hand as well#to be clear I don't think gravitas could end the wars even if jackie did try based on what we've seen but that doesn't mean that it can't#influence things and I especially feel like with how much gravitas has been able to do they probably at least have some allies#which is why I do feel like jackie probably at least stopped having stopping the wars as a pressing goal at some point since the presence o#the fuel wars and fuel shortages gives gravitas that much more power and influence#aka more resources aka more room to chase after whatever carrot of progress jackie cares most abt this week#y'know saying all of this is making me realize that is kind of just what real life tech giants are up to huh. fun world we live in#hey at least as far as we know gravitas hasn't done a literal coup so they have that going for them at least#I do like the look at wider oni earth stuff but I do also hope they don't get too lost in the sauce with it#I very much like only getting small glimpses into gravitas and oni earth so I hope after this vertex institute arc they scale back again#not that it would be the end of the world if they didn't but I don't want oni to get stuck in that loop of trying to go bigger and bigger#until eventually it circles back around to being nothing yknow?#I don't think it will to be clear I think them having the vertex institute be relevant makes sense considering its been mentioned before#so I think this is just one of the things they wanted to explore for a long while similar to ceres#but I do worry abt having more of these sorts of secondary story lines in the future so I kind of hope we just. don't get more after this#again it'd be fine if we did it's just not ideal imo

What's new(ish) in the settler-colonial state of the US is that a series of bills have been passed in the House (the Baby Senate as I like to say) and are on their way to the Senate that make it harder to voice support for Palestinians while also making sure your direct taxes aid the genocide in Gaza.
These bills affirm the US's stance on the settler-colonial Zionist Entity and the implicit ties that the government has with Israel and really — just goes to show you how Israel is just one big base for American Imperialism.
Anyways, there's still time to call your senate and tell them that you don't want these bills that only further spiral the US into fascism so even if you think it might not do much — it's important that we document our dissent in official sources. And while you're at it — call your congressperson and tell them that if they voted for this you're not voting for them next election. If they voted against the bills, still call your congresspeople and tell them you support their decision to vote against these bills.
Here are the bills:
📍Resolution: HR 6126
Resolution Name: Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act Description: Gives $14.3 Billion To Israel From The IRS (Taxes You Pay). Like straight up. Just takes it from an IRS project, which used our tax dollars to begin with, to give to Israel "defense." Link to check summary: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/118/hr6126
📍Resolution: HR 798
Resolution Name: "Condemning the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at institutions of higher education, which may lead to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff." Description: Will Penalize Students On American College Campuses For Supporting Palestine. This includes "Free Palestine" Protests as according to Rep Owens who introduced the bill (Click). Link to check who voted: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/118-2023/h578
📍Resolution: HR 3266
Resolution Name: "Tolerance in Palestinian Education Act" Description: They will be examining Palestinian education materials to see if it promotes "hate" or "violence" (aka are they teaching their children to become murderers??). Will inevitably require Revision Of Text Books In Palestinian Schools To Portray The Occupation In A Positive Light. Link to summary: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/118/hr3266
📍Resolution: HR 340
Resolution Name: "The Hamas International Financing Prevent Action" Description: Claims to stop financial support for "terrorist" organizations but considering that Gaza's government is run by Hamas, then this would mean Gaza will receive absolutely no aid and donating to people in Gaza could get you in legal trouble. Link to summary: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/118/hr340
There's a button for most of these bills that allows you to contact your representative directly. Please do take the time to contact them — while many of this isn't especially new to Palestinians, the difference is now that we have a larger power in numbers than we did in the past. Please make sure to advocate for you Palestinian comrades in the US whenever possible! Help us Free Palestine one step at a time!

Pairing: Hybrid!141 x Male!Reader
A/N: Intended as an early-stages poly relationship, but could also be interpreted as platonic.

-----
It’s a bullshit new law that does it. Some asshole lawmakers deciding that just because there’s some small fraction of animal DNA in them that they can’t do their jobs right without “an actual person” watching over them that gets you assigned to the 141.
Sure, joining a team that elite is an honor, but it’s something you’d have wanted by your own merits, not just because someone who’d never seen real combat in their lives thought your new colleagues needed someone fully human to reel them in.
You’ve seen their numbers - they don’t need you and you’re sure as hell they don’t want you encroaching on the bond that their experiences have fostered between them. That’s why you come in expecting the animosity.
You were right. Captain Price is cordial enough, he shakes your hand without crushing it and says he’s eager to work with you but his smile doesn’t meet his eyes and the terseness in his voice tells you he’s just saying it to be polite. He’s run this task force long enough to know how to do his job without you there. His Lieutenant doesn’t even grant you that. The sergeants seem wary and you don't blame them but you know that it’s better to be someone like you that knows their worth than one of the holier-than-thou bureaucrats they’d been considering assigning to this post, so you’ll just have to try to find your place in the team.
-----
Soap is the easiest to win over. He finds you in the gym one night long after everyone else had retired back to their bunks, ripping through reps at the bench press without a spotter. He’s thrown for a minute, used to being the only one up this late since the rest of the squad is mostly diurnal, but he’s content enough to admire the way your compression shirt is darkened with sweat and to watch your muscles shift with each movement. Can feel himself drooling a little at the spice of your scent, heady and masculine and tempting enough to make him want to bite.
He wonders a little, whether you’d be able to keep up with him and he can’t help the steady pace his tail picks up behind him as he decides he’s going to find out.
You’ve got your eyes closed and earbuds in like you’re the only one for miles and yet you still seem to sense him as he drops his bag and moves to stand near you.
“S’dangerous,” he says as you re-rack your weights and pull an earbud out, “To lift without someone to spot you.”
You nod, it’s one of the biggest rules of gym safety for a reason, but you’d never been great with rules. “Never much liked askin’ for help,” you admit after a minute. “Didn’t wanna bother anyone.”
He hums, and you don’t feel judged, just understood, “Well, you’re stuck with the lot o’ us now, whether you like it or not,” he grins, wolfish and happy, and moves to stand at the head of the bench to spot you, “Bother away.” And just like that, you’ve got yourself a new workout buddy.
It’s like he’s your self appointed shadow after that, waiting outside your door every morning with a freshly made protein shake in each hand, one for each of you. He’ll get all whiny about it too if you say no, pointy wolf ears drooping and tail falling still behind him. He looks like he’s about to cry until you finally relent and take yours from him (he perks up right away every time, the little faker). Eventually you learn that it’s easier to just take it from him without the fight and let him ramble on about whatever he’d seen on tiktok the night before as he walks you to your office.
He joins you for meals too, complains about the amount of food on your plate and scoops bites off his own plate to supplement yours despite your protests. His Ma had always told him growin’ up that he had to eat plenty of protein if he wanted to be big and strong and protect his pack, so he’s just tryin’ to do the same for you and doesn’t understand why you feel the need to argue about sharing food.
You’re part of his pack now, and Soap’ll be damned before he neglects one of his packmates, just don’t be surprised if he starts bullying his way into your room at night too - he’s a cuddler.
-----
Gaz warms up to you next, though he always blames the blood loss if someone asks what won him over. He’d joined you and Soap for your evening workouts a few times, and grinned at each other when you passed in the halls, but it’s not until the morning after a brutal op that he really starts to see you as part of the team.
It’s early. Barely three-thirty in the morning when the heli touches down and maybe only four when the squad tumbles through the doors but you’re right there with the rest of them. Price is already headed down to the administrative wing for a debrief and Ghost has a snoring Soap over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes on his way to the barracks, and then there’s just the two of you.
You’ve got one of Gaz’s arms over your shoulder and an arm heavy around his waist, tucked snug under his bleeding wing, taking most of his weight as you help him limp through the halls. You hang a left instead of the right that would lead to the infirmary, instead guiding him into your office. You sweep whatever paperwork had been on your desk aside, and help him up to sit, legs hanging off one side of your desk and wings cascading over the other.
You’re quick to shrug off the outer layer of your tactical gear and cast it aside, pulling out a sizable med kit from under your desk and settling on your knees in front of him. You ask him if it’s okay, before you help ease his cargo pants down enough to get to the wound on his thigh and he finds himself taken aback since their usual medic would just muscle them off or cut them away to get at it. You wait until he nods to start tugging at the fabric, fingers careful and intent as you work the material free from the torn flesh.
He watches as your gaze flickers over the wound and you reach for what you need without even looking. He’s been told his eyes are intense before, it’s normal for bird of prey hybrids, perhaps especially so for golden eagle hybrids like him, but he’s never quite understood the way people describe being pinned in place by his gaze until now.
You work fast, sterilizing, stitching, and then bandaging his wound with a speed that would rival the military doctors in the infirmary, and the stitches seem more sturdy than he can remember his last ones being.
Once you’re satisfied with his leg, you stand and move behind him to get a better look at his wing. He'd taken a bullet to it, right through the meat of the muscle, and he knew he’d be grounded a long while until it healed. You hesitated then, unsure if he’d be okay with you touching such a personal area as his wings.
Gaz swallows hard, trying to think of the last time someone other than himself had handled his wings, and nudges it back into your hands. You’re remarkably gentle, he thinks, as your fingers card delicately through rich caramel feathers until you’re able to uncover the bullet hole. You use a pair of tweezers, to make sure that there are no lingering bits of shrapnel, and a tiny set of scissors to trim back any of the soft downy feathers that could catch in the wound as it heals.
He’s started churring by the time you’re done, a sort of contented trill from the feeling of someone else preening his wings, despite the lingering pain from the injuries. His golden eyes snap back to focus as you nudge a water bottle and granola bar into his hands with a muttered apology that it was all you had on hand, and he’s still plenty happy because you’re trying to be part of his flock by preening him and providing for him. He churs the whole while as you guide him back to his room and help him into bed.
Gaz quickly becomes a regular participant of you and Soap’s late night gym sessions and joins you for mealtimes once in a while after that night.
-----
Truthfully, you still don’t know what convinced Ghost you were worth knowing, but he supposes that’s because you hadn’t known he was there. He’d been on his way to deliver a mission report from Price to one of the other admin when one of his rounded ears caught the sound of your raised voice. His curiosity drew him to the door, cracked just enough that he was able to see you stood across a table from a trio of generals, arms crossed and back straight.
“I appreciate your congratulations,” you growled, and Ghost was taken aback by the ferocity in your voice. He’d never heard you speak like that before, not even in the field. “But I am not the one who should be hearing it.”
His ears prick forward, tugging against the thick fabric of his mask as he listened closer, intrigued.
“With all due respect, Major, task force 141-” one of the pencil pushers started.
“No,” you interrupted, hands coming down hard on the desk between you and the other officers, “They are due the commendations. They are the ones who built this team from the ground up. Sure, there have been successful missions since my joining, but those are not only my achievements. If you want to offer a public congratulations on a successful operation, it will be to my entire team, not just the picture you think would be easiest to publish.”
With that, you turn from the board of your superior officers and head for the door, ignoring their protests, and Ghost has to scramble back in order to avoid being hit with the door.
“Sorry, Lieutenant,” you say as you see him, moving out of his way. “Didn’t see you there,” and for once that doesn’t sound like some slight against his panther genetics, just a plain statement - he’d been behind the door and you hadn’t meant to nearly clip him with it. You clap him on the shoulder and head off down the hall back toward your office and Ghost is tempted to drop the file where he stands to follow you, one simple interaction you hadn’t meant for him to see enough to convince him there was far more to you than he’d thought.
You weren’t just some babysitter added to their little family to observe them like they were no more than wild animals - you actually saw their worth and were willing to fight for it?
An amused little huff escapes him and Ghost forces his attention back to the task at hand, spotted tail lashing smoothly behind him as he turns and continues on his way, sharp claws digging puncture wounds into the folder he’d been sent to deliver and your words ringing in his mind.
----
Price was the last to come around to you being a part of their little family, though he’d never been outright hostile the way Ghost had at first. He’d done his best to be professional with you, complying with the needed paperwork and taking your insights on each operation under consideration, though he never deliberately sought you out.
That didn’t mean he could avoid you when the team had a mission though, especially not now with the five of you piled into a much-too-small cabin in the mountains near where intel suggested one of Makarov’s bases were. Laswell had just radioed in to let Price know there was a snowstorm incoming so evac might be delayed and to expect to hunker down at least another two nights.
With only two bedrooms and a total of three small beds between them, you’d volunteered to take up roost on the lumpy couch in the living room so he’s not surprised to see you there, so much as he is by your company. You’re sprawled out in about the middle of the couch with Gaz tucked comfortably against your side, your arm around his shoulder and one of his wings curling around the both of you. As Gaz’s wing shifts, Price notices Soap curled against your legs, snoring away, but he freezes as he sees Ghost.
Everyone on the team has gone through hell, but Price knows Ghost has dealt with more than his share. Nightmares aren’t uncommon for any of them, but for Ghost a decent night’s sleep was an incredible rarity. That’s why he’s so startled to see Ghost stretched comfortably along the rest of the couch with his head on your lap and his face nuzzled into your stomach, skull mask gone in favor of his more casual balaclava, and his breathing deep and even.
A pleased little huff escapes Price, warmth spreading in his chest at the sight of his three favorite people curled up together happy and comfortable. And if you were part of that? Well, there was plenty of room for one more in that old bear’s heart.

@ma7moudgaza2, head of @isnadfoundation, has now gone over seven days without food. israel has starved him so much he now survives on nutritional supplements and is often nauseous. despite this he continues to work for 6 hours running a foundation that supports 40 students' academic careers.
a bag of flour can run people up to $250 or more, but if we all pitch in now we can get this family food they desperately need. consider donating, even $5 can help. reblog if you absolutely can't contribute.

Random thought but while I don't think Derek is like, super ripped or anything, he does try to go to the gym with some regularity so he is pretty strong and athletic.

"It is 70 years since AT&T’s Bell Labs unveiled a new technology for turning sunlight into power. The phone company hoped it could replace the batteries that run equipment in out-of-the-way places. It also realised that powering devices with light alone showed how science could make the future seem wonderful; hence a press event at which sunshine kept a toy Ferris wheel spinning round and round.
Today solar power is long past the toy phase. Panels now occupy an area around half that of Wales, and this year they will provide the world with about 6% of its electricity—which is almost three times as much electrical energy as America consumed back in 1954. Yet this historic growth is only the second-most-remarkable thing about the rise of solar power. The most remarkable is that it is nowhere near over.
To call solar power’s rise exponential is not hyperbole, but a statement of fact. Installed solar capacity doubles roughly every three years, and so grows ten-fold each decade. Such sustained growth is seldom seen in anything that matters. That makes it hard for people to get their heads round what is going on. When it was a tenth of its current size ten years ago, solar power was still seen as marginal even by experts who knew how fast it had grown. The next ten-fold increase will be equivalent to multiplying the world’s entire fleet of nuclear reactors by eight in less than the time it typically takes to build just a single one of them.
Solar cells will in all likelihood be the single biggest source of electrical power on the planet by the mid 2030s. By the 2040s they may be the largest source not just of electricity but of all energy. On current trends, the all-in cost of the electricity they produce promises to be less than half as expensive as the cheapest available today. This will not stop climate change, but could slow it a lot faster. Much of the world—including Africa, where 600m people still cannot light their homes—will begin to feel energy-rich. That feeling will be a new and transformational one for humankind.
To grasp that this is not some environmentalist fever dream, consider solar economics. As the cumulative production of a manufactured good increases, costs go down. As costs go down, demand goes up. As demand goes up, production increases—and costs go down further. This cannot go on for ever; production, demand or both always become constrained. In earlier energy transitions—from wood to coal, coal to oil or oil to gas—the efficiency of extraction grew, but it was eventually offset by the cost of finding ever more fuel.
As our essay this week explains, solar power faces no such constraint. The resources needed to produce solar cells and plant them on solar farms are silicon-rich sand, sunny places and human ingenuity, all three of which are abundant. Making cells also takes energy, but solar power is fast making that abundant, too. As for demand, it is both huge and elastic—if you make electricity cheaper, people will find uses for it. The result is that, in contrast to earlier energy sources, solar power has routinely become cheaper and will continue to do so.
Other constraints do exist. Given people’s proclivity for living outside daylight hours, solar power needs to be complemented with storage and supplemented by other technologies. Heavy industry and aviation and freight have been hard to electrify. Fortunately, these problems may be solved as batteries and fuels created by electrolysis gradually become cheaper...
The aim should be for the virtuous circle of solar-power production to turn as fast as possible. That is because it offers the prize of cheaper energy. The benefits start with a boost to productivity. Anything that people use energy for today will cost less—and that includes pretty much everything. Then come the things cheap energy will make possible. People who could never afford to will start lighting their houses or driving a car. Cheap energy can purify water, and even desalinate it. It can drive the hungry machinery of artificial intelligence. It can make billions of homes and offices more bearable in summers that will, for decades to come, be getting hotter.
But it is the things that nobody has yet thought of that will be most consequential. In its radical abundance, cheaper energy will free the imagination, setting tiny Ferris wheels of the mind spinning with excitement and new possibilities.
This week marks the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. The Sun rising to its highest point in the sky will in decades to come shine down on a world where nobody need go without the blessings of electricity and where the access to energy invigorates all those it touches."

Hi! Thank you so much for your beautiful work!! I hope it’s okay to make a silly little request
So I’m in my 20s (late 20s I might add) but I’ve never ever even kissed anyone yet and I kinda really want to so… Would you consider writing modern au!Viktor with a virgin!f!reader? Something about a first kiss or maybe having sex for the first time or first relationship..? Anything first in general 👉👈
Anon, I am beating my chest that it took so long and hope that you will get a notification that it is published (I sometimes don't when I ask anon questions). I was a late bloomer myself and it has some massive advantages. Though I hope you get to kiss someone nice soon!

Your eyes sweep over Jayce’s tongue on Mel’s before you catch yourself staring. And even that doesn’t stop you. You analyse the movement of their hands, the way Jayce’s hips press into Mel’s, memorising all the smacking sounds they try to muffle into gentle giggles, hoping that you and Viktor are doing a decent job of not looking. When in reality, it’s the exact opposite.
It always goes the same way: the clack of heels echoing through the corridor outside the lab already has Jayce perking up. He grunts, clears his throat, and gets up slowly to avoid raised eyebrows and Viktor stating the obvious, like, “I guess this means you’re off for the day?”
Then, Jayce gives an apologetic smile and strolls toward the door, opening it before Mel can even knock. He exchanges a shy, stupid, cheek-reddened “Hi” for her sultry, thick “Hi yourself.” Their greetings die somewhere in their mouths when their lips meet in a first hello kiss. That one doesn’t last very long—soon, it shifts into an I missed you kiss. That lingers before melting into an I want you kiss or an I’d rather eat you than dinner kiss. And those are your favourites.
Even when you try very hard not to imagine what kind of kiss might follow that, you can’t help yourself. You end up blushed and flustered, your mind spinning with curiosity.
So you stare—impolitely, some might say—but for you, it’s research. You study and memorise, committing their courtship to memory so you can replay the scene later, your fingers wandering over your own lips as you imagine what it would be like. To have someone’s lips on yours, someone’s tongue in your mouth. It doesn’t sound all that appealing or hygienic, but it looks fantastic. It makes you feel a very much welcomed weirdness in your chest and belly, and having nothing else to supplement those feelings with, you just outright stare.
“It’s quite rude, if you ask me,” Viktor’s voice cuts through your thoughts just as Mel lets out a small, startled sound at Jayce’s hand cradling the back of her neck.
“Uh, I know. They should take it somewhere else, really,” you whisper back, but your tone is far from condemning. You say it absentmindedly, your eyes still glued to their mouths, chin propped on your hand, your scribbling abandoned the moment Jayce stood up.
“I meant your intense staring. But yes, such activities should be performed outside of work areas,” Viktor mumbles, not looking up from his notes.
Your blush deepens into an intense red hue as you finally look away and cover your face with your hand.
“Oh, I um… I didn’t mean to, it’s just—”
“All right, we’re off! Don’t work too hard while I’m gone!” Jayce’s beaming laughter cuts you off. Before you or Viktor can reply with a snarky comment, he sweeps Mel by the waist, and they disappear into the hallway. The sound of Mel’s giggle and the uneven click of her heels on the stone floors make you wonder if Jayce is kissing her neck or pressing her against a wall.
“It’s just?” Viktor insists, finally looking at you, his face forming an unamused expression.
“Nothing. It’s just nothing,” you respond quickly, picking up your pen with a shaky hand. You force yourself back to scribbling, even though your handwriting comes out ragged, suffering from both the excitement and the fear of Viktor’s prying eyes. But you do it anyway, desperate for any kind of shield.
“It does not look like nothing,” Viktor pushes, rotating in his chair to face you fully. You deepen your hunch, almost pressing your nose into the paper. How mortifying.
“I understand the concept of unrequited attraction, but you should really do yourself a favour and quit this self-flagellating practice of ogling every time Mel picks him up. It doesn’t lead to anything beneficial and impacts your focus,” Viktor drones, his nasal tone close to scolding.
You feel so scrutinised that you don’t even bother to correct his misunderstanding of your habit. You just sigh and continue your fake note taking.
“Trust me, I would know,” Viktor adds.
That catches your attention. How would he know anything about what you’re going through?
“Whatever do you mean by that?” you ask, keeping your face turned toward your notes, though your eyes wander to glance at him. He looks… unhappy? Mildly irritated? Annoyed at your lack of shame and focus?
“I am merely stating that lusting after someone out of reach is, at best, futile and, at worst, a path to ruin. For your own good, I would refrain from such practices,” Viktor says quietly.
You blink a few times as the words settle in your mind. He thinks I’m in love with Jayce? Lusting after him? It’s almost funny when you think that what you’ve been doing is in fact, just lusting.
“I can assure you, I am not attracted to Jayce. Or Mel, for that matter. I just—”
“Oh?” Viktor’s head snaps up so fast it surprises even him. He internally scolds himself for the involuntary reaction, but the undeniable punch of hope makes him lose control of his body for a moment. His pupils are wide, his brows lifted all the way to his forehead. “You’re not?”
“Uh, no,” you sigh, finally turning to face him properly. Your head dips as embarrassment weighs you down, but maybe admitting it will make it easier to carry. “I’m just… collecting research. For whenever I’ll have the opportunity. If ever. I mean, it’s not like I’ve ever—”
“What?” Viktor’s voice comes out too sharp. Shit. He scowls at himself—internally, of course—for how poorly he masked his shock. Way to be sensitive.
You wince, sinking deeper into yourself.
“Oh. Forgive me. I didn’t mean to… offend you,” he says carefully, trying not to sound too excited. His hand hovers over your knee while he calculates whether it would be proper to comfort you with a gentle touch. If you would like that. If you would like him to touch you.
But before he can decide, you turn back to your side of the desk, avoiding his gaze. “I’m not that easy to offend. It’s just not something I’m comfortable with. I’m a bit… too old for that, you know.”
And as if having a mild upper hand in this situation pumps Viktor with extra courage, he twists your chair back and rolls it close to his, until the sides of your thighs touch. “I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable, then. I actually mean for the opposite of that,” he breathes and allows himself to glance over your lips, briefly. But you notice.
“Viktor?” you whisper, feeling an invisible force pulling you closer to his face. His arm extends over your legs, gripping the edge of your seat, and you feel the mild heat radiating off his body. You can smell his scent lingering in the space between you as you indulge in small glances at his eyes and lips.
“If you allow me, I could provide you with… some hands-on experience. Unless, of course, I am not—”
“Yes,” you answer quickly, and Viktor exhales into a relieved smile. He mumbles an “okay,” as if bracing himself, and closes the little distance left between you. His mouth presses against yours almost innocently as he takes your upper lip between his. His lips are soft and warm. It’s a long, lingering peck that has your eyes fluttering shut and a pool of heat blooming in your belly. You find yourself leaning into the kiss, your hips on the edge of the chair, to the point that your chests almost press against each other.
When he disconnects from you, it’s only to breathe against your mouth, “Is this alright?”
“Yes,” you say shakily, your lips brushing his. You open your eyes only to see a pretty pink blush splattered across his cheeks and ears. A smile tugs at the corner of his mouth when he asks, “Would you like me to continue?”
“Please, continue,” you exhale, and something glints in Viktor’s eyes. Emboldened by your enthusiasm, he slides the hand gripping the stool to the back of your seat, pulling you closer until you can almost feel the flutter of his heart against yours as your chests meet. His other hand cradles the back of your neck, and oh, it’s the same gesture Jayce granted Mel that you’ve longed for so dearly, and you feel your skin prickling under Viktor’s touch.
His mouth is back on yours, this time the press is firmer, as he parts your lips with his tongue and—oh. Just oh, as your eyebrows knit together and the warmest of feelings floods your chest, making your hands jolt out to fist his vest, and you sigh the sweetest of sounds into his mouth. And he doesn’t stop there—the hand from the chair slides up your side, rests on your ribcage, fingers digging in when he—oh—also makes a sound. The hottest of sounds, a honey-dripping moan that makes you bite his lower lip, craving to eat him up with a long spoon.
And when he loses himself a bit—grunts and sighs into you, his hands wandering to rest at the base of your spine and cradle your cheek in a firm grip—you don’t even know how it happens, but you slide your hips to straddle his and press yourself down on him. To your delight, he has many more of those pretty sounds, some even forming something close to your name, making you melt into his arms.
When he pulls away, it’s only for an inch. “Oh, my,” Viktor mutters, rubbing his face against yours and kissing your neck. You like that too, but you already miss his hot tongue in your mouth. “A natural talent, I see,” he chuckles, and you blush even more at the thought of what he would say if he knew how much practice you’ve done on the crook of your fist alone in your room.
He looks up at you, all flustered and pretty, swiping his thumb across your glistening lip. He doesn’t know what’s come over him when he says, “If you wish to explore this further, I can offer my… expertise.” What he wants to say is that he’s been thinking about this too many times to count, leaving him flustered and pretty countless times before, but he doesn’t want to scare you away. So he just keeps looking at you expectantly, willing his mouth to shut.
“I would like that,” you mutter shyly, noticing how Viktor’s chest sags with relief. To think that he was there, willing and within your reach all this time makes you feel silly for all those times you stared at Jayce and Mel longingly. And you’re convinced you’ll continue to watch them—not with longing, but with anticipation for when they finally stroll off to their date, so you can sink your lips onto Viktor’s.

Next up on Things I Liked About Veilguard: the faction leaders. We all know some of the factions and their NPCs did not get anything like the amount of content and character that others did (Strife and Irelin I'm so sorry, I still love you), but sometimes I take a step back and realise how wonderful the stuff we did get was.
I mean - Evka and Antoine. Everything about them is so heartfelt. I hadn't read the supplemental material, but they barely needed to interact before I understood why this sweet, smart guy and this tough, smart woman loved each other. They affirm each other constantly. They respect each other so deeply. They have written letters for the other to take to their Callings: a cipher only Antoine could read. Je t'aime. Je t'aimerai toujours.
I love how Myrna and Vorgoth are introduced, suddenly and unsettlingly there in the Lighthouse. I love Vorgoth speaking in all caps. I love the fact that nobody knows what they are. I love that they raised baby Ingellvar. I love how Myrna is calm and polished while every so often coming out with the absolute wildest shit. They're fun.
The Viper and Tarquin? Top tier. They might be my favourites, just because of how much they have going on. Each of them has a backstory, and you can see exactly how those backstories produced their personalities. Ashur has a secret identity you can piece together from notes and codexes (and it's the funniest identity possible). I love their argument over Ashur's paranoid investigation into Tarquin, because it shows that the world goes on when Rook is not in the room, and the NPCs have relationships that go through ups and downs.
I'm mildly insane over the level of devotion, with Tarquin's desperate letters to the Wardens if Ashur is blighted, begging for a cure Ashur won't take. Him standing over Ashur to defend him in the final mission, or else his devastating reaction if Ashur dies: 'It should have been me!' God, these NPCs are alive. (fun fact: I wrote most of this post, and then Sheryl Chee confirmed these two were written as being in love with each other and stupid about it. I'm so happy.)
Speaking of NPCs who love each other: Teia and Viago, my beloveds. Again, I was coming in without the supplemental material, and I was sold on them so fast. The way Viago tenderly cradles Teia from behind as they mourn Caterina. The way they're so involved in Lucanis's personal quests - they're his family, they're there for him, they love him. I love Teia's fierceness and her heart. I love their banter - so much mutual understanding, exasperation and affection mixed together. 'We know each other too well to be strangers.'
Isabela is as wonderful as she always is - I especially appreciate how her depiction in Veilguard makes it clear just how loving she is. But can we also talk about Rowan? (I don't know if she's technically considered a faction leader, but meh.) I love her poetic speech patterns; I love that she's a scholar who wrote a bunch of codex entires; I love her calm, soothing voice. I love getting to see a Rivani Seer at last. And I love how she'll suddenly turn around and say, still calm and soothing, 'Spirit of Determination: may your enemies die bitter and in pain.' Perfect, no notes.
Strife and Irelin, sadly, drew the shortest straw when it came to being fleshed out in-game. But what I do love about them is their relationships with your companions. I love the tiny detail of Irelin, Bellara's ex, helping her pack for the Lighthouse; I love how she writes to Bellara to beg her to take care of herself, because she still matters to her.
And while I am a profound Emmrook lover, I appreciate Emmrich/Strife so much too. I love their shared curiosity and sense of adventure; I love thinking that Emmrich might give Strife tenderness that his life has lacked, while Strife could help nudge Emmrich toward boldness. I love the idea of two older men who likely think love has passed them by suddenly going, oh. If the Veil Jumpers didn't get a deeper relationship with Rook, at least they got relationships with Rook's friends.
Dragon Age games always give us a fun roster of companions, but honestly? Veilguard got me invested in the non-companion NPCs more than any other game in the series. Yes, there should have been more - but what we got was so much fun.
tl;dr: Faction leaders, my beloveds.

INTIMACY RESTRICTIONS IN THAI MEDIA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've seen some people commenting on how much more natural KristSingto's kissing looks in the first episode of "The Ex-Morning" compared to their kisses in "SOTUS," and while I love all conversation about KristSingto kissing, I just wanted to add to that conversation for a sec because I love historical nuance about stuff like this.
A while back, I asked @hallowpen why a content warning pops up on KongArt's beach kiss in "SOTUS S" even on the DVD, and they explained that Thai productions used to have much stricter limitations on how much physical intimacy they could show on television.
Supplementally, Singto said that back in 2015, he and Kit watched overseas media to prepare for the kiss scenes in "SOTUS," presumably because their own country's was restricted to chaste, sealed-lipped mouth tapping. And this wasn't just applied to same-sex couples. It was the case for male-female couples as well.
A deleted scene of Kongphob and Arthit's rooftop kiss in "SOTUS" exists that's a bit longer than the one that made the final cut, so I think their production team was especially careful. Considering that "SOTUS" was a 1) queer series about 2) young men involved in a 3) school program heavily inspired by 4) military drills intended to 5) craft the next generation of upstanding Thai citizens, that series is super subversive, so it stands to reason that showing too much physical intimacy between Kongphob and Arthit was risky, too.
While promoting "The Ex-Morning," Krist has said some variation on, "We're not students anymore, so we can show more adult content," multiple times. They even get sex scenes now, which was unimaginable back then. The closest they got to showing sex in "SOTUS S" was a lot of suggestive dialogue, toothbrushes in a cup, and some Sexy Straw Action.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's just by chance that we haven't seen Krist and Singto kiss each other in a series between 2018-2025, because their kiss scenes in other series with other actors have been growing steadily more natural as limitations on intimacy decreased over time.
Basically, they're both good kissers, they just had to be careful before.
Now, you sat through me talking, so here's the kisses. Enjoy!
