Chapter synopsis: The group discuss yesterday’s Halloween party

Y/N notes: none

‘I can’t believe you guys left Miguel.’ Y/N said in a low tone. She hadn’t known about the scrap with Kyler and his gang until that morning. She sat in the library with Demetri and Eli, glaring at them. Mostly at Demetri.

‘What would you expect us to do?! Fight?!’ Demetri argued back.

‘No but at least take Miguel with you when you ran!’ Y/N punched Demetri in the arm.

‘Ow! That hurt!’

‘Good! None of us have seen him today and he hasn’t returned any of my calls.’ Y/N checked her phone for what felt like the 100th time that day.

‘Hey guys.’ Miguel appeared, speaking in a mono tone voice and sat down.

‘Miguel! You’re covered in bruses!’ Y/N held his head and inspected his face. She gave him a hug which made him wince in pain. ‘Sorry! Sorry!’

‘It’s okay.’

‘So what happened?’

‘What do you think happened?’ Demetri said. ‘Kyler and his gang kicked his ass.’

‘And who’s fault is that?’ Y/N snapped back.

‘My Mom doesn’t want me to continue karate.’ Miguel mumbled.

‘I’m not surprised.’ Y/N replied. Miguel looked defeated but Y/N could still see the fire in his eyes. ‘But you don’t want to quit right?’

‘It doesn’t matter. Sensei is closing down the dojo anyway.’

‘So that’s it? No more karate?’ Demetri asked.

‘I guess so.’ Miguel shrugged.

‘It’s probably for the best. It was starting to boost your confidence.’

‘Isn’t that a good thing?’

‘No. What has confidence ever gotten anybody except for a black eye and their backpack thrown in the trash?’ Y/N sighed.

‘Not helping.’

‘Well, I thought it was kinda cool how you stood up to Kyler.’ Eli added.

‘Are you insane?’ Demetri exclaimed. ‘Let me ask you. What is the best superpower anyone could have?’

‘Super strength.’ Miguel answered.

‘Wrong. Invisibility. A distant second would be super speed to runs away fast.’

‘Run away from who?’ Kyler asked sarcastically, leaning over Eli. The group sighed.

‘We were just leaving.’ Miguel said as they packed up their things. Kyler grabbed the back of Eli’s neck and turned him around.

‘Hey where are you going? Oh look at this freak.’ He grabbed Eli’s face and looked at his scar. ‘Oh shit! What kind of girl would ever kiss this shit?’

‘Let him go.’ Y/N said in her low tone. Kyler laughed.

‘Oh I know you. You were that girl giving out free lap dances at the Halloween party.’ Y/N flinched. ‘Yeah my boy said you were giving him a whole show. I bet you make these losers pay though, right?’

‘D-Don’t talk to her.’ Eli managed to say. Kyler grabbed his face harder.

‘Oh you tryna be the hero now?’

‘Leave him alone Kyler.’ Miguel sighed. Kyler pushed Eli and Y/N aside and stepped closer to Miguel.

‘Are you okay?’ Y/N whispered. Eli nodded but the look on his face was saying otherwise.

‘A-Are you?’ Y/N took his hand and squeezed it.

‘Yeah.’

‘What’d you say? You haven’t had enough ‘Rhea?’ Kyler asked as he shoved him. ‘Huh?’

He hit Miguel on the side of the head. ‘Get the hell out of here man.’ Miguel began to walk out, followed by Eli and Y/N.

‘You guys okay?’ Miguel asked once they were out.

‘Yeah. Miguel-‘

‘I’m fine Y/N.’ He snapped. ‘Sorry I didn’t mean to… I’m just gonna go to my next class early. See you guys later.’ He began to walk away.

‘Um, Y/N?’ Eli and her were still holding hands.

‘Oh! Sorry.’ The two took a step back from each other.

‘I should have done more when Kyler said that shit about you.’ Y/N shook her head.

‘Don’t blame yourself. I’m fine. What else could you have done? What he said about you was horrible too.’

‘Yeah I guess. At least yours wasn’t true.’

‘What are you talking about?’ Y/N frowned. Eli fidgeted.

‘Never mind. I’m gonna go I’ll-‘ Y/N grabbed Eli’s arm. He turned back to face her. She looked around the empty hallway before stepping closer to him and planting a kiss on his lips.

‘I’ll see you later.’ Y/N smiled and ran down the hallway after Miguel. Demetri came out holding his now yoghurt covered backpack at arms length.

‘Those guys are such- hey what’s up with you?’

‘Miguel! Wait!’ Y/N said as she caught up with him. He now had a smile on his face.

‘Did you just kiss Eli?’ Y/N’s smile slowly grew bigger and bigger. ‘You did!’

‘I-I don’t know I just went for it!’ Y/N grabbed on to his arm and shook.

‘So what, you guys official now?’

‘I guess that’s up to Eli. I think I’ve made myself quite clear. Oh no. What if he doesn’t-‘

‘Don’t even start overthinking this. There’s no way Eli doesn’t like you so there’s no bad ending to this.’

‘… you sure?’

‘Positive.’
