Christmas Ghost stories
I posted about this before but I'll post about it again. The song "Most Wonderful Time of the Year" has a line "There'll be scary ghost stories" and a lot of people assume it's talking about Charles' Dickens much beloved classic, "A Christmas Carol." Well, yes, and no. A Christmas Carol is probably the most famous Christmas ghost story but it is, by far, not the only one. In the Victorian era (and earlier) ghost stories were a very popular holiday tradition in the UK and US. In fact A Christmas Carol was not Charles Dickens only or even first Christmas story. He wrote several. You can find them compiled in the book "Charles Dickens Christmas Ghost stories." Some of these titles include The Goblins who Stole a Sexton (which is an early proto-type version of A Christmas Carol where some goblins kidnap a mean grave digger and show him the error of his ways). There's also the spooky story of The Signal Man. Here are some well-known old (and some recent) Christmas Ghost stories. Krampus (folklore and movie about the demon captured by Saint Nicolas, who gets loose once a year to punish wicked children). There are at least fourteen Krampus movies and he has appeared in animation and comic books. According to legend Krampus is the son of Hela (Goddess of the dead) and grandson of Loki (God of Mischief). Befana The Christmas Witch (Italian folklore, actually equatable to Santa). She was a friend of the three Wise Men and now distributes gifts to good children on Epiphany and leaves coal for naughty children. She fills stockings with candy and toys too. She's not wicked at all. She's kind and Santa-like. Yule Cat (Folklore). According to legend you are supposed to get new clothes for Christmas. And if you don't get (and wear) any new clothes, the Yule cat (which is a giant cat) will eat you. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol The Goblins who stole a Sexton by Charles Dickens The Raven (poem) by Edgar Allan Poe. Very atmospheric and gothic but really about grief. It's set in December. Hell House by Richard Matheson (Movie version is called Legend of Hell House). This haunted house story is set at Christmas time. Gremlins (Steven Spielberg movie) Edward Scissorhands (set at Christmas and is a fable about the source of Christmas snow.) Nightmare before Christmas (Poem / children's book and stop motion movie). This is technically both Christmas and Halloween. Over the Garden Wall (TV mini-series). All the visuals in this gorgeous mini-series are based on vintage Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas New England postcards. Silent Night Deadly night (Horror movie) Christmas Slay Sleepy Hollow (1999 movie) - Originally released in November, despite the Halloween aesthetic the movie actually ends on New Years Day. Ghostbusters 2 - The movie starts the day after Boxing Day and ends on New Years Day. Rise of the Guardians - Though technically set at Easter, the movie features Santa Claus and Jack Frost (The personification of childhood fun) turns out to be the ghost of a boy who drowned while saving his sister. Dear Dracula - The children's book is about a child who sends Dracula a letter instead of Santa. The animated movie version is more Halloween-centric. Dracula (2006 BBC version) released on Christmas. Santa vs. Dracula (comic booe of Water (Movie) released in December. Nosferatu (2024 version of the movie) will be released Christmas Day.
Hogfather (Disworld book and TV mini-series) where Death has to take over for The Hogfather one year (Disworld version of Santa).
Mari Lwyd - South Wales Christmas tradition. A dead horse (actually people in a costume of a skeletal horse) shows up at your door and starts to rhyme at you, you rhyme back. And this back and forth goes on for a bit. If you run out of rhymes you have to let the ghost-horse in and eat your snacks and booze. There are many more but this was just a sample of the spooky fun of the Yule season.

Do you plan to make a sequel for Naughty for this year Christmas? I ask because it is one of my favorite stories of yours. But also, because I need to know what happened the next morning after the cock size transfer. I have fantasized about Ralph waking up, hoping everything had been a nightmare, only to found himself to have a baby dick. And how there is nothing he can do about it.
But I also imagine he would have a hard time changing his ways. I suppose he would just stop interacting with Parker as much as possible. But Parker seems the kind of guy who wouldn't willingly provoke Ralph now that the tables had turn to some extent, so maybe there could be a chance Ralph betters himself.
Maybe having a baby dick now makes Ralph learn what empathy is, since now the jabs about the lack of size would be directed to him?
I don't know. But unlike Brandon, for example, Ralph has a year to actually improve as a person. At least towards Parker. And wouldn't have to interact with Parker that much since he goes to college. So there could be a possibility he improves truly. But knowing what happens to bullies in your stories, it could be very likely he somehow forgets the very real possibility he could lose it all, and ends up ensuring Krampus punishes him again.
It would be funny, however, if somehow Ralph ended up appreciating his new size and liking it. Following the funny thread, I don't think he would be the kind of guy who could work on Acorn, even if he is clearly qualified when it comes to the size department.
I really don't have any plans to do a followup to that fic. I kind of need to start thinking of holiday fics since that's right around the corner, but with things like Naughty, it kind of works better as a one off than as a series. Like, I get that it could be a christmas miracle style thing where he learns the error of his ways, but... I'm not seeing it. Although... I had that fic sitting in WIPs for yeaarrsss. Like, in the original drafts, I was kicking around the idea of a choose your own adventure style thing where you could choose to grow the main guy or shrink the bully brother and maybe a few other possibilities. Like, if you grew the main guy, he gets a visit from Kris instead. This is why the intros to Naughty was very similar to the older Have Yourself a Megalithic Christmas
(I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but I tend to name characters in my holiday fics after characters from Christmas movies.
Ralphie Parker - A Christmas Story
Scott Calvin - The Santa Clause
George Bailey - It's a Wonderful Life)
Honorable mention, the dudes in a Halloween fic a few years back were Jaimie, Lee, and Curtis.
But back on topic, Ralph was kinda designed to be... I dunno if unredeemable is the right word, but sort of untouchable due to how the parents always sided with him, and so Parker needed divine intervention to get any justice. Once that happens, the narrative feels satisfied.
Also worth mentioning that I don't know if getting his dick shrunk will change much vis a vis Ralph's status with his parents. Ralph will probably pull his punches with Parker now, especially since he lives in fear of further visits from Krampus, but aspects of his life that don't revolve around his dick will remain semi-unchanged. He's still a big, buff jock and will probably go on to have a semi-successful life as like a car salesman or something. His ego will be thoroughly deflated, but he'll still be charismatic in a smarmy way. Part of why he wouldn't work as an Acorn guy. He just does not have the type of personality that would be appealing to the clientele.

So I've been doing a little reflecting, and it dawned on me how many things I've gifted you guys with
Spider Mother!Error. Sleep Paralysis!Nightmare. Shadow!Papyrus. Country!Fresh. Priest!Fresh. Figment!Dust and Figment!Killer. Krampus!Axe. Dreamcatcher!Cross. All of Riderverse. All of the incorrect quotes and whatnot. Probably more individual characters that I can't think of at the moment, too
And I remembered how much fun it was, seeing everyone's reactions to those silly little concepts that I threw out there. I'm in kind of a funky mood right now, so I was wondering if we could go back to those concepts and talk about them a little. I'll take pretty much anything, I just need a distraction from the path my brain's trying to go down right now

I respect that I kinda wish it was just the parents dying and the kids being like scared by krampus instead
Also if edd tried to escape I feel like tord would go looking for him along with his minions
I remember seeing a game
Where you had to avoid a elf and deer and krampus all together and I liked that idea
But image
Edd: ah I can escape-
Deer: ohohohoh N O
Oh god you know that meme where it's like "vomiting crying, etc"? That would be me. I see some goddamn Monster Deer I would cry and book it back to Tord's lair or wherever he lives. fsdjfhidfsdhk Tord gets a Single (1) elf compared to Santa's thousands. This man's villain origin story must be so long at this point. I guess to be fair, he isn't making toys at all.
He more than likely spends a good chunk of his year keeping an eye on his magical list and making notes if a person disappears off of it and for adults, he starts making plans right away. Where with kids, he waits a bit to see if they've learned the error of whatever they've done or if they just are able to disappear off the list before planning out what to do.
If Edd's gone from the place for longer than normal, as in not playing in the snow outside or forest or wherever Tord is, Tord will definitely go looking for him. First with the assumption that the poor kid wandered too far and got lost, or lost track of time, but starts to panic when he goes further and further out and hasn't come across Edd.
Sends all his nightmare reindeer along with whatever animal abominations he has to find Edd. A part of him feels bad for not having "nice" animals like Santa has but ultimately resolves to make Edd hot chocolate and wrap him in a hug for scaring the hell out of him.

Not Home For the Holidays
Hey there, day-one bug fix. So we've finally laid that long nightmare we call Suicide Squad behind us. And now we're officially out of the holidays. So what better way to celebrate than a My Little Pony holiday special~?
Here's the cover:
Tumblr media
Ah, a typical depiction of caroling, and well in character. Half of them are just singing nicely. Pinkie Pie, meanwhile, is belting out her own death metal versions of the songs, by the look of her expression, which is obviously not to Applejack and Rarity's taste. Rainbow Dash, on the other hand, doesn't care about Pinkie's antics. She'd look just as not-thrilled to be there even if all of them were singing nicely. Otherwise, the rest of the cover has some nice, gentle holiday imagery. The brighter colours of our cast contrast nicely with the darker forest green and such~
So it's been a while since the last holiday special, eh? Seems like it goes every other year. 2015, 2017, and now this one. That's fine with me, doing it every other year makes the stories more unique and interesting. Anyway, we open with Pinkie decorating--but it's Applejack's leg she's decorating. Applejack's all laid up with a broken leg. Her friends are all here to keep her company--it never addresses why her family isn't here for this role--and Rainbow Dash even suggests they make it an early Hearth's Warming party. Unfortunately, Rarity announces that she has another engagement in Manehattan that night.
Here's the wrinkle: Celestia is also holding a royal gala that night, and Rarity has overscheduled. That's the big plot here: Rarity has overscheduled, and intends to attend all her events in one night. And if you think the gala and the soiree are the only things on the schedule, there's also a fireworks show in Ponyville that night as well. Spike in particular wants to attend that one, but he gladly joins Rarity as an assistant while she tries to get to each of these events. And while all this is discussed, Pinkie goes a bit Christmas Vacation cat on Applejack's leg in the background~
So we start that evening in Canterlot, with Rarity in a long gown and Spike in the top half of a tux. The pair of them arrive, noting with some confusion that the royal guards aren't posted to announce them. They enter the main ballroom, only to find everypony still in the midst of setup. Seems Twilight over-extended her stay at Applejack's (further playing into the comic's theme of overscheduling), and also didn't take into account not having Spike around to assist. So they're still getting the party together. There's almost an exciting moment where you think the chef hurrying in is going to drop the cheese fondue on Rarity, but it doesn't seem to end up that way.
Rarity and Spike instead end up helping to set up the party instead of mingling with the guests, and the time comes for them to rush out to Manehattan for that party just as the princesses arrive. The pair jump on the train, and Spike tries to console Rarity a bit. She's a bit bummed about having to run out on her friends just as the party started, and wishes she had considered swapping the order of events. They're off to meet her friends in the fashion world instead, and she's not wearing her most up-to-date gown. While on the train, they go over a series of signals to guide each other to ideal conversation. Two fingers for a change-up, three for a knuckleball, right?
This is a much smaller party, and also is also sort of a meetup of fashion-minded individuals to exchange ideas. Andy Warhol here has a difference of opinion on colour shades (he's so pretentious, they're both just red), and while Spike actually meets a nice pony named Chiffon Ruffles who's wearing a clever candy cane dress with real candy canes (Pinkie would approve so hard), Rarity ushers him out the door as the clock suddenly ticks over. There's a minor error where it says they have to get back "to Equestria" and not "to Ponyville", but it's fine.
The pair are back aboard a train, and Rarity wonders if they might stop and find a way to get him back to Ponyville while she returns to Manehattan to chat Chiffon up, and Spike finally cracks a bit. He is still young, after all, and he might be a bit tired. But he explains that he didn't get the things he wanted at the other parties--not even a candy cane off Chiffon's gown--and the one thing he was promised by Rarity was the chance to see the fireworks. He gave up all that stuff to spend time with her. And that's when the avalanche suddenly knocks the train off the tracks~
I'm not even kidding. There's a full-page spread of it and everything. And since it's another Andy Price issue, it's gorgeously drawn. Fortunately, nopony is hurt, and Rarity even uses her magic to dig a way out so the other passengers can escape. Since they're going nowhere fast, Rarity takes a moment to apologise to Spike. She expected the night to be a whirlwind of connections and conversations, but everypony at the gala was too distracted by setup, and all the fashion ponies were more interested in being seen than heard. She ended up treating Spike the same way, and now his holiday's ruined.
She offers to make it up to Spike by carrying him back to Ponyville personally. Fortunately, they don't get too far before they instead hear jolly laughter from overhead. Yes indeed, the pair are visited by none other than... Rainbow Dash and Twilight, who are here with a rescue team. What, did you think it was Santa or something~? The other passengers board the rescue sleds the pegasi brought, but suddenly there's a loud explosion. No, it's not another train wreck, but the fireworks show going off. The rest of the story is a wrap-up of what was learned: it's the quality and not quantity of the connections you make over the holidays. And so the Mane Six and Spike just spend the rest of their evening at Applejack's~
Before you think that's all there is, the comic has a short four-page story to finish off the issue. This one features the Student Six and Pinkie Pie. The Six are in exactly the kind of mood you'd expect kids to be in around the holidays: excited, goofing off, and throwing snowballs. In order to get them to behave, Pinkie tells them about Krumple Horn, who is essentially a MLP-friendly version of Krampus. Over the next page, each time they stir up trouble, something karmic happens to them. And Ocellus goes missing, leaving behind a bed full of mud. Now that’s horror. The end result is that the Student Six are eager to clear out and go home for the holidays, to their teachers' relief. And of course, Discord appears to reveal he was the one who set up all the karmic retribution, because frankly the role suits him a little too well~
Another holiday, another nice Hearth’s Warming story from our friends in Ponyville. I like this one, and encourage you to go out and read it for yourselves, if only because I summed up the ending sentiment of the main story a bit quickly. It goes on for quite a bit more, and the nice sentiment is much better read in full. And just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep the spirit of them going, yeah~?
