There are only a few things here so far, but please check out my simplified occult texts! Some of this old stuff can be a little draining to read when you're already mentally drained from.. well, life... so these have been adapted into a more modern, informal tone that allows the reader to get the basic information that the text is trying to convey.

I recommend reading the originals if you have the time and energy, just because there will necessarily be a loss of nuance here and you might be able to get more out of the originals. BUT! If you have a busy life and/or a neurodivergent brain that likes to wander off (like me on both counts, sigh), this could be an acceptable substitute.

(I'm continuously working on these, so there may be links and notes added whenever I get the opportunity to do so. Just a note to check back now and then if you're interested in that.)

THIS book is opening my mind.

I literally feel like Doctor Strange coming back from Kamar-Taj (which, actually, I can really relate to, because I rewatched the movies and they talk accurately about this topic for some parts??).

I’m understanding the practical laws of the universe and I’m slowly realising my power in having all the control of what happens in my life and how things can change direction.

I recommend this reading if you’re trying to understand how our Universe works, and how you can manipulate its laws in your favour.

With this book, I’m detaching more from socials (except for when I want to help people with these informations on detailed “how to” posts), I’m living more mindfully and patiently, with more balanced emotions and a very strong self concept. There’s lot of things that I’m learning from this, I’m devouring every page and I can’t wait to finish it to understand everything at full.

El Kybalion: una mirada crítica desde la historia, la hermenéutica y el pensamiento esotérico occidental.

¿Síntesis de sabiduría hermética?

El Kybalion es uno de los textos más conocidos por quienes comienzan a interesarse por temas esotéricos. Presentado como una supuesta “síntesis de sabiduría hermética”, su tono enigmático y sus “siete principios universales” capturan fácilmente la atención de lectores en busca de conocimiento espiritual. Pero ¿es realmente un texto hermético?

Como muchos, lo leí con entusiasmo en mi adolescencia. Por eso, esta crítica no pretende descalificar a sus lectores —yo también lo fui—, sino aportar herramientas para comprender qué tipo de texto es y en qué contexto histórico y filosófico se inscribe.

¿Quién lo escribió?

Publicado en 1908 por “Los Tres Iniciados”, El Kybalion ha sido atribuido de forma casi unánime a William Walker Atkinson, figura clave del movimiento New Thought (Nuevo Pensamiento) en EE. UU. Este movimiento promovía ideas como la Ley de Atracción, el mentalismo y la autosanación espiritual, muchas de las cuales confluyen en este texto.

Atkinson fue además un hábil editor y estratega editorial: publicaba bajo diversos seudónimos (como Yogui Ramacharaka o Magus Incognito) y construía falsas autoridades para legitimar su contenido. La invención del título “Kybalion” —que no aparece en ningún corpus antiguo— forma parte de esa operación de marketing espiritual.

Los “Siete Principios Herméticos” y el riesgo de la anacronía

Los siete principios propuestos por El Kybalion (mentalismo, correspondencia, vibración, polaridad, ritmo, causa y efecto, género) no existen como tales en ningún texto clásico del Hermetismo. No están en el Corpus Hermeticum ni en la Tabla Esmeralda. Son una construcción moderna, que adapta ideas del ocultismo y del pensamiento positivo bajo una retórica simbólica inspirada en lo antiguo.

Por el contrario, el Hermetismo clásico, surgido en el Egipto grecorromano entre los siglos I y IV, es una tradición filosófico-religiosa compleja, centrada en la búsqueda de gnosis: el conocimiento directo de lo divino. Se basa en diálogos teológicos, himnos y tratados contemplativos, donde Hermes Trismegisto guía el alma en su ascenso hacia el Nous (Intelecto divino), no hacia la manifestación de deseos materiales.

Lo que nos enseña la hermenéutica

El historiador de las religiones Wouter J. Hanegraaff, uno de los máximos referentes del estudio académico del esoterismo occidental, propone una actitud crítica pero humilde:

“Empecemos por escuchar lo que las fuentes tienen para decirnos, antes de decirles lo que creemos que deberían significar”. (Hermès, l’herméneutique et les sciences humaines, 2023, p. 29)

Desde esta mirada, El Kybalion incurre en una proyección anacrónica: reescribe el Hermetismo a través de las categorías del Nuevo Pensamiento, reemplazando la cosmología y teología hermética por una doctrina de empoderamiento individual.

¿Es esotérico u ocultista?

Esta es una distinción clave. Según la perspectiva historiográfica:

El esoterismo clásico incluye tradiciones como el Hermetismo, Gnosticismo o la Cábala, centradas en la transformación del alma, y la cosmología sagrada.

El ocultismo moderno (siglos XIX–XX), en cambio, adapta muchas de esas ideas a una lógica más instrumental, individualista y muchas veces secularizada.

El Kybalion pertenece a esta segunda categoría: es una obra de ocultismo moderno, no de esoterismo clásico. Su valor reside en su capacidad de divulgación, pero también presenta riesgos: puede dar lugar a malentendidos profundos sobre lo que realmente es el Hermetismo.

Si te interesa el Hermetismo…

El camino comienza por el Corpus Hermeticum, la Tabla Esmeralda, y autores como el propio Hanegraaff. Entender a Hermes Trismegisto requiere algo más que decretos mentales: exige escucha, estudio, contemplación y compromiso con un lenguaje simbólico que no se presta a simplificaciones.

For whoever needs to hear it, The Kybalion isn't some ancient Hermetic text or anything; it's an early 20th century text written by somebody (probably William Walker Atkinson) who basically believes in the history of the world as proclaimed by Helena Blavatsky. It's got a bunch of that proto-New Age conspirituality and metaphysics in it. So like, read it if you will, but be aware of who and when it actually comes from, and take it with a grain of salt.

Excessive worrying is akin to worshipping your problems. Shift your focus onto lighter things. There’s power in worship to manifest things into being.

Shine conscious light onto that which brings you pain and discomfort. Address it least it festers within the dark into something vile and cancerous subconsciously.

The Sacred Spine: Jacob’s Ladder and the Hidden Path

The 7 principles of the Kybalion: the connection of the human mind to the core of the universe and how to “hack” it

The Kybalion is a text that sets out the seven principles of Hermetic philosophy, an esoteric and spiritual tradition whose origins can be traced to ancient Egypt and Greece.

I’ve recently bought the book “The Kybalion: The forbidden knowledge of Hermetic philosophy and universal laws - the art of Hermetic alchemy and the 7 principles”.

What are these principles? They are the fundamental principles of truth, and according to the authors (which are anonymous, and called “Three Initiates”) an individual who comprehends these deeply can reach the Magic Key which can unlock all the secrets of the Temple.

- First Principle: of Mentalism

it affirms that the universe si fundamentally of mental nature, this means that all the things are created by the mind.

- Second Principle: of Correspondence

it highlights the idea that a correspondence exists between the various planes of existence, therefore something that happens on a plane it automatically reflects on another one.

- Third Principle: of Vibration

it affirms that everything in the universe is in constant movement and vibrates on a specific frequency.

- Fourth Principle: of Polarity

it emphasizes the idea that everything had its his opposite and that these are complementary and necessary for their reciprocal existence.

- Fifth Principle: of Rythm

it explains that everything moves in a cyclical way and that rythm schemes are present in all the things of the universe.

- Sixth Principle: of Cause and Effect

it sustains that everything that happens has a cause na defect and that nothing happens by coincidence.

- Seventh Principle: of Gender

it reveals that in everything exists a masculine energy and a feminine one and that these energies are necessary for the creation and manifestation.
