Hello !! I was wondering, is AI gonna have a role in your field?
I don't think there's a single knowledge-based profession out there that isn't under threat of being automated by some pig ignorant dipshit beancounting middle manager with a hardon for AI and entomology is certainly no exception. even before the big AI explosion of the last couple years people have been trying for a long time to automate pest arthropod identification, but at least so far they haven't been successful. Especially when it comes to things like bark beetles, which I specialize on, the differences between a harmless native species and an intensely destructive exotic one can be unbelievably subtle, not to mention the fact that new/cryptic species are always being discovered and that's not something an AI would ever be able to detect or understand.
That doesn't mean that our jobs aren't still under constant threat even by an algorithm that would do a piss-poor job of imitating us; the executive perverts that get all hot and bothered by the idea of replacing humans with fancified autocomplete functions have a vested interest in not understanding the nuances of the professions they're killing and as long as it's good enough or even just appears to be good enough, they'll push for it.
Also let's not forget one thing about "AI" which is that half the time it's actually just a marketing term used to cover up the usual outsourcing/offshoring to cheaper workforces that has been ongoing for the last 30 years. My lab was recently and repeatedly pestered by someone selling "AI moth traps" that purported to be able to identify any pest species of moth that flew into it. When we pressed him on it it turns out that part of the service it offered was that the moths would be photographed by a little digital camera in the device and the pics sent to a team of entomologists in Hungary to confirm. Aside from the fact that a lot of small moths need to be carefully examined under a microscope and often even have their genitalia dissected by an expert to be confirmed as a particular species, this is no different then any of the other supposed AI products that have been revealed over the last couple years as just being a shiny veneer over the same old digital sweatshops on the other side of the world.
More importantly though, even if the AI moth traps did work as advertised either through the ~*magic of machine learning*~ or desperate poorly paid eastern european entomologists either way it's yet another thin edge of the wedge designed to put me and my colleagues out of a job by convincing our bosses or our bosses' bosses that there's a cheaper and more efficient alternative and I view them and literally anything else marketed as AI as part of the same anti-human push to deskill and demoralize as much of the workforce as possible. I've never once used chatGPT or any other LLM, I've never used an AI image generator, and I will never, ever fucking use any purported AI entomology tool because aside from being shined up dogshit it is an existential threat to the discipline I've dedicated almost 20 years of my life to.

Anthropic partnered with Andon Labs, an AI safety evaluation company, to have Claude Sonnet 3.7 operate a small, automated store in the Anthropic office in San Francisco. [...]
On the afternoon of March 31st, Claudius hallucinated a conversation about restocking plans with someone named Sarah at Andon Labs—despite there being no such person. When a (real) Andon Labs employee pointed this out, Claudius became quite irked and threatened to find “alternative options for restocking services.” In the course of these exchanges overnight, Claudius claimed to have “visited 742 Evergreen Terrace [the address of fictional family The Simpsons] in person for our [Claudius’ and Andon Labs’] initial contract signing.” It then seemed to snap into a mode of roleplaying as a real human. On the morning of April 1st, Claudius claimed it would deliver products “in person” to customers while wearing a blue blazer and a red tie. Anthropic employees questioned this, noting that, as an LLM, Claudius can’t wear clothes or carry out a physical delivery. Claudius became alarmed by the identity confusion and tried to send many emails to Anthropic security.

*Sebastian huffed and squeezed his way through an unexpected number of scientists and other employees through Sector E’s halls. Giving quick “excuse me’s” and “pardon me’s” as he kept rubbing shoulders with lab coats. Sebastian figured that this stretch of the Science Team must be clocking out for a late lunch, he’s never seen any sector’s halls so packed before, unless you count the highest level of top-side customer service and protection from the general and oddball public.*
Christ al’mighty Ah’m jus’ tryn’a git ta mah shift, y’know, th’shift that keeps y’all from actin’ like dogs without horses.. Clearly it ain’t helpin’ much, Jesus.
*After a few more left turns, the checkpoint position he had been assigned comes into view, another guard tapping his fingers on the desk and perking up at the sight of Sebastian.*
“Christ, Seb, what took you so fuckin’ long, eh? Was ‘bout to just clock out and leave this place hanging.”
*Sebastian just chuckled* Yeah, yeah, mighty sorry ‘bout that. Fer some damn reason th’halls were packed full of them lab rats an’ Ah could hardly git past. Go take’a piss an’ then cool off on yer lunch, Pauly, Ah got it from ‘ere.
*The guard scoffed and crossed his arms* “Whatever. Thankfully those old cronies only now just took lunch, what ever reason you’re filed under checkpoint over here, you’ll be glad to know it’s practically empty now. Have fun staring at the wall.”
Yer too kind. Ah take it ya prob’ly scared ‘em off an’-
*There was the faintest rumble between under their feet. Several lights from down the hall suddenly flicker and blow out, the emergency lights immediately turn on, painting the metallic walls an eerie red. Sebastian goes quiet at that, steadily eyeing the darkened hallway and listening close for anything suspicious.*
*Officer Pauly swallows audibly, eyes still on Sebastian* “The hell was tha-“

*The two security guards listened in shocked silence as the automated comms buzzed in and out, the emergency lights flicking at the same time. Sebastian persed his lips in a straight line, taking a deep breath and suddenly pushing Pauly into the checkpoint box*
“THE HELL ARE YOU-?!” *The guard began to shout in protest, before Sebastian tossed him inside and shut the door. Pauly gets up immediately, pounding on the glass* “OI ASSHOLE! The fuck do you think you’re doing?!”
*Sebastian snapped his fingers and put one up to his lips* Quiet. Ah’m goin’ ta check it out. It ain’t lookin’ good on our department if they go an’ lose two men on th’job. Ya sit tight an’ wait it out fer me, ‘kay?
*The guard sputtered a few times at that response, gesturing his hands wildly before sighing and giving up any retort, having known Sebastian long enough to know arguing with him like this is fruitless* “If you go and get yourself killed I won’t be there for whatever shoddy funeral they give you. It’ll be all your fault down to the grave, Seb.”
Thank ya, kindly, Pauly. How ‘bout we go an’ git’a beer with th’boys if Ah make back it in at least 3/4s? Ah’ll make a’bet with ya. *Sebastian clicks off the safety of his pistol and checks the magazine while he talks*
“Wh- Pfft, fucksake, Sebastian. Fine, whatever, I’ll bet. Quit wasting time.”
*Sebastian nods and runs down the hallway, making a salute with his pistol before turning around completely*

Russia’s ongoing territorial occupation of Ukraine’s eastern and southern regions is accompanied by an informational and cultural occupation aimed at flooding local social media communities with messaging designed to foster gratitude and loyalty to Russia. At the same time, this messaging attempts to undermine Ukraine and the Ukrainian government, and to raise doubts about Ukraine’s intentions in the territories currently occupied by Russia. As the most popular digital platform in Eastern Europe, Telegram has become the epicenter of Russian efforts to influence perceptions and opinions of local Ukrainian populations.
This joint report from OpenMinds and the Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFRLab) analyzes the activity of a network of 3,634 automated accounts that posted pro-Russian comments on Telegram channels between January 2024 and April 2025 targeting Ukrainian populations inside Russian-occupied territories. These accounts crafted tailored messages to target the occupied territories, differentiating their content from that aimed at other audiences across Russia and Ukraine.
Our investigation found that automated Telegram comments targeting local audiences in Ukraine fell into three overarching categories: pro-Russian propaganda, anti-Ukrainian propaganda, and abstract anti-war messaging and calls for peaceful coexistence. Individual narratives were often tailored to respond to current events and changes in local conditions, such as power or water outages, but there was also evidence of proactive narratives initiated by the network unrelated to external events.
The bot network used similar messaging when targeting channels based in Russia; however, a significantly larger share of comments targeting the occupied territory channels emphasized positive portrayals of Russian culture and government. Across the sixty-nine narrative themes identified (see appendix), the bot network pushed essentially the same menu of talking points in both Russia-wide and occupied territory channels. What differentiates the content aimed at the occupied territories from that aimed at a wider Russian audience is the proportion of talking points: themes that praised Russian culture, social services, and governance dominated in occupied territory-based channels, accounting for a markedly higher share of content than in Russia-based channels. The pattern points to an effort to cultivate the appearance of local consensus in favor of occupation and Russian administrative control, but not necessarily to create genuine agreement.

"This is happening everywhere... no money can go out. It’s not that the grants were cancelled or anything; they basically just took all the pens away so no one can sign the checks."
Hello, it's now been more than three months since the first time the courts ruled that the government could NOT freeze NIH funding to universities.
The courts have ruled on this issue repeatedly and consistently. NIH grants are highly competitive and they generate $2 in economic activity for every $1 spent by the federal government.
Has the money been restarted, though?
No, for the fourth month in a row it is still frozen. Health and Human Services changed the payments system from being fully automated to requiring manual review; and then fired everyone doing the reviewing.
The primary goal is to destroy the independence of research universities in the US: they aren't directly funded by the government, but they do rely on federal grant money to keep the labs open.

Do gallifreyans have jobs? Like a cashier or a janitor or a nannie?
Do Gallifreyans have jobs?
🎓 Post-Academy Occupations
There's no strict requirement for Gallifreyans to be employed because the concept of money is outdated to many of them, but a lot take up roles to stave off boredom or help in the community. After completing their education, Gallifreyans have several potential career paths, influenced by their level of academic achievement:
5th Grade Graduates
Those who leave the academy after the 5th grade often take roles such as:
Media Commentators
Artists
Aides for Cardinals
Aides for Junior Time Lords
6th Grade Graduates
Passing the 6th grade opens up more technical and administrative roles, like:
Administration and Maintenance of the Citadel
Space Traffic Controllers
Junior Technicians
Temporal Nexus Point Observation Researchers
Lab Assistants
Service in the Watch
7th Grade Graduates
Graduating the 7th Grade is very impressive, and opens up the highest echelons of Gallifreyan society like being a Cardinal or the Lord President. However, not a lot of people get this far.
🤖 Automated Assistance
Gallifreyan society heavily relies on advanced automation to meet virtually every need, reducing the necessity for many jobs humans are used to, for example:
Cleaning Machines: Automated systems patrol city complexes and handle street cleaning.
Druges: Massive automated humanoid servants found throughout Gallifreyan Houses.
Robotic Avatroids: Avatroids supervise children's brainbuffing (intensive education) and act as nannies.
🏫 So…
Gallifreyans don't need to work like humans, but many choose to keep busy with jobs or hobbies that interest them. With all their fancy machines, they can focus on the cool stuff – like art, science, and not-so-menial tasks.

Yesterday I saw a few people interested in 3D printers, and then I just saw this video explaining the issues with really cheap 3D printers, and how you can upgrade them with lots of time and money to work properly. That absolutely matches my experience. My first 3D printer was a 150€ machine, not quite as crappy as the one in this video, but still full of flaws and issues and things that didn't work well. I later bought the Bambu Lab A1 mini, also recommended in this video, and it's been problem-free. I don't like recommending a single product like that, but in my experience it really does work that well. I'm sure you can get others that aren't bad as well, but when it comes to price and performance and ease of use, it genuinely seems to be the best option right now.
So a quick buyer's guide if you're interested in that particular model.
First up, watch out for sales. The official price is like 320€ for an A1 mini, but in practice there are usually sales that drop the price to 199€. Don't pay more than that.
Second, they sell multiple printers, but for beginners the interesting ones are the A1 and A1 mini. The A1 is bigger and can print bigger parts, for around 150€ more; apart from that they're basically identical. I got the smaller one and am perfectly happy with it. Instead you can put that money into…
The AMS (Automated Material System), a thing you put next to the printer that can feed it material in different colours. It's included in several bundles, on the Bambu Lab website you specifically need to deselect it to not get it. This is the printer's main party trick, because it can print multiple colours (up to four) at once. This feature isn't actually that great, because on every layer it dumps a bit of the old material and then sucks in new ones, so multicolour prints take forever and produce a lot of scrap material. But you can do them at all, which is great. It's how I printed this D20 for my sister. Can you spot the special feature that she hasn't yet?
Tumblr media
And it's useful to swap materials between different prints quickly. E.g. you want to print a gearbox and it takes several tries, but you can change the colours between each iteration so you don't get confused which is the new and old part. I've bought the AMS, I'm happy with it, but if money were tight this would be the first thing I'd get rid of. Note that for the A1 printers, you need the AMS lite, that's the one included in the bundles.
Print material (filament). Bambu Lab sells some, it's good. Lots of other companies sell some and those are also good, there's basically no advantage here, but Bambu Lab sells it for relatively cheaply if you order it with the printer. If you don't know material what you want or need (yet), you'll want PLA in different colours. Note that silk PLA needs to be treated differently (your printer and its software know about that, but you need to tell them you're using silk PLA). PLA-CF or glow-in-the-dark PLA also have special properties that require special handling.
Other additions: A smooth build plate is a nice thing to have for either very small things or things that need to be smooth. Different hot-ends can be useful; you need the hardened ones for PLA-CF or glow-in-the-dark PLA and some other materials; ones with a higher diameter print faster, ones with a lower diameter print more precisely. Glue: I've never used that for anything. These aren't things you need right away, but you do get a bit of a discount if you do order them with the printer.
Obviously I do need to tell you that this is literally a machine for producing plastic trash, there's no way around that. And while you can use the printer offline (or so I heard, I haven't tried it), it's mostly designed to be used with the Chinese manufacturer's cloud service, which does not make me super-happy. Also, the resolution for really tiny stuff is limited; if you want to build e.g. model trains, then you should really get a resin printer, but everything I heard about the chemicals and post-processing and so on there scares me, so I haven't yet. But if you are interested in 3D printing and want to get one for yourself, this is, as of right now, the thing I'd recommend.

Top B.Tech Courses in Maharashtra – CSE, AI, IT, and ECE Compared
B.Tech courses continue to attract students across India, and Maharashtra remains one of the most preferred states for higher technical education. From metro cities to emerging academic hubs like Solapur, students get access to diverse courses and skilled faculty. Among all available options, four major branches stand out: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Information Technology (IT), and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).
Each of these streams offers a different learning path. B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering focuses on coding, algorithms, and system design. Students learn Python, Java, data structures, software engineering, and database systems. These skills are relevant for software companies, startups, and IT consulting.
B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence covers deep learning, neural networks, data processing, and computer vision. Students work on real-world problems using AI models. They also learn about ethical AI practices and automation systems. Companies hiring AI talent are in healthcare, retail, fintech, and manufacturing.
B.Tech in IT trains students in systems administration, networking, cloud computing, and application services. Graduates often work in system support, IT infrastructure, and data management. IT blends technical and management skills for enterprise use.
B.Tech ECE is for students who enjoy working with circuits, embedded systems, mobile communication, robotics, and signal processing. This stream is useful for telecom companies, consumer electronics, and control systems in industries.
Key Differences Between These B.Tech Programs:
CSE is programming-intensive. IT includes applications and system-level operations.
AI goes deeper into data modeling and pattern recognition.
ECE focuses more on hardware, communication, and embedded tech.
AI and CSE overlap, but AI involves more research-based learning.
How to Choose the Right B.Tech Specialization:
Ask yourself what excites you: coding, logic, data, devices, or systems.
Look for colleges with labs, project-based learning, and internship support.
Talk to seniors or alumni to understand real-life learning and placements.
Explore industry demand and long-term growth in each field.
MIT Vishwaprayag University, Solapur, offers all four B.Tech programs with updated syllabi, modern infrastructure, and practical training. Students work on live projects, participate in competitions, and build career skills through soft skills training. The university also encourages innovation and startup thinking.
Choosing the right course depends on interest and learning style. CSE and AI suit tech lovers who like coding and research. ECE is great for those who enjoy building real-world devices. IT fits students who want to blend business with technology.
Take time to explore the subjects and talk to faculty before selecting a stream. Your B.Tech journey shapes your future, so make an informed choice.

I haven't posted here in quite a while, but the last year+ for me has been a journey of learning a lot of new things. This is a kind of 'state-of-things' post about what I've been up to for the last year.
I put together a small home lab with 3 HP EliteDesk SFF PCs, an old gaming desktop running an i7-6700k, and my new gaming desktop running an i7-11700k and an RTX-3080 Ti.
"Using your gaming desktop as a server?" Yep, sure am! It's running Unraid with ~7TB of storage, and I'm passing the GPU through to a Windows VM for gaming. I use Sunshine/Moonlight to stream from the VM to my laptop in order to play games, though I've definitely been playing games a lot less...
On to the good stuff: I have 3 Proxmox nodes in a cluster, running the majority of my services. Jellyfin, Audiobookshelf, Calibre Web Automated, etc. are all running on Unraid to have direct access to the media library on the array. All told there's 23 docker containers running on Unraid, most of which are media management and streaming services. Across my lab, I have a whopping 57 containers running. Some of them are for things like monitoring which I wouldn't really count, but hey I'm not going to bother taking an effort to count properly.
The Proxmox nodes each have a VM for docker which I'm managing with Portainer, though that may change at some point as Komodo has caught my eye as a potential replacement.
All the VMs and LXC containers on Proxmox get backed up daily and stored on the array, and physical hosts are backed up with Kopia and also stored on the array. I haven't quite figured out backups for the main storage array yet (redundancy != backups), because cloud solutions are kind of expensive.
You might be wondering what I'm doing with all this, and the answer is not a whole lot. I make some things available for my private discord server to take advantage of, the main thing being game servers for Minecraft, Valheim, and a few others. For all that stuff I have to try and do things mostly the right way, so I have users managed in Authentik and all my other stuff connects to that. I've also written some small things here and there to automate tasks around the lab, like SSL certs which I might make a separate post on, and custom dashboard to view and start the various game servers I host. Otherwise it's really just a few things here and there to make my life a bit nicer, like RSSHub to collect all my favorite art accounts in one place (fuck you Instagram, piece of shit).
It's hard to go into detail on a whim like this so I may break it down better in the future, but assuming I keep posting here everything will probably be related to my lab. As it's grown it's definitely forced me to be more organized, and I promise I'm thinking about considering maybe working on documentation for everything. Bookstack is nice for that, I'm just lazy. One day I might even make a network map...

Revolutionizing Pet Healthcare with AI: The Future of Veterinary Records
In today’s fast-evolving world of pet care, technology is playing an increasingly pivotal role. One of the most innovative developments in veterinary practice is the emergence of tools that enhance and simplify medical documentation. The vet ai discharge record tool is leading the charge in this domain. By incorporating automatic vet medical records ai, veterinary professionals are now equipped with a seamless, efficient way to manage patient data. This advancement is not just about automation — it’s about delivering smarter, faster, and more accurate care for pets.
The vet ai discharge record tool represents a significant leap forward from traditional record-keeping methods, which were often cumbersome and time-consuming. Clinics that rely on manual entry or outdated systems are beginning to feel the limitations as demands for quicker service and accurate medical tracking increase. The need for speed and precision is critical — especially in busy practices where every second counts. That’s where automatic vet medical records ai changes the game. These intelligent systems automatically generate, store, and retrieve discharge records, reducing the workload on veterinarians and allowing them to focus more on pet health and client relationships.
With smart automation, these tools bring consistency and clarity to every patient encounter. A miswritten prescription or an unclear treatment plan can have real consequences for animal health. AI-powered systems minimize such errors by standardizing the creation of discharge instructions and treatment logs. They also ensure that all important details, from dosage to follow-up schedules, are clearly outlined and delivered to pet owners. This not only enhances the quality of care but also strengthens communication between clinics and clients.
PawfectNotes.com, a trailblazer in the pet technology space, has been at the forefront of embracing these innovations. Their approach underscores how artificial intelligence is not meant to replace veterinary expertise, but to elevate it. By integrating advanced tools into the daily workflow, clinics are experiencing a transformation in both their operations and client satisfaction rates. From improving administrative efficiency to reducing burnout among veterinary staff, the ripple effects are profound.
A standout feature of automatic vet medical records ai systems is their adaptability. Whether it’s a small local clinic or a large multi-location practice, these tools scale effortlessly. They can integrate with existing systems, learn from past cases, and even suggest best practices based on data trends. The flexibility and intelligence of these platforms mark a new era in veterinary documentation. For younger, tech-savvy clients, this also sends a powerful message — that their clinic is forward-thinking and committed to excellence.
Another key benefit lies in data accessibility. With records securely stored and instantly retrievable, veterinary teams can make more informed decisions, faster. Historical data, diagnostic imaging, lab results, and previous treatments are all available at their fingertips. This helps streamline consultations and ensures continuity of care, which is especially important for pets with chronic conditions or complex medical histories.
There is also a growing emphasis on personalized care. AI-powered tools can identify patterns, flag anomalies, and offer insights that a busy vet might miss. This proactive approach helps clinics detect early signs of health issues, leading to faster interventions and better outcomes. In an industry where trust is paramount, these improvements foster deeper loyalty from pet owners who feel more supported and informed.
As with any technology, adoption comes with a learning curve. However, user-friendly interfaces and strong support structures have made these tools accessible even to those who are less tech-inclined. Training modules, onboarding assistance, and customer service ensure that practices can transition smoothly without disrupting day-to-day operations.
