Kiryu and Kashiwagi, Pride and Survive

happy pride month to those who of us just trying to survive

some notes:

i have a lot of emotions about gay Kashiwagi being a mentor to a newly out Kiryu. he never really hid it but he wasn't really visible until after he "died". Kiryu never noticed being clueless as he is.

i always think about the fact that Kiryu gets not one but two deathbed gay confessions + plus the fact nakajima straight up asks him if he is gay. i am a homosexual Kiryu truther. kazumaji can still win.

i think there is elements of comphet with his love with yumi. i don't doubt that he loved her but i struggle to see it as romantic.

Kiryu's hair is short after chemo/radiation which has been working (i need some hope). i stick with the idea he was refusing treatment up until the end of 8. i think it fits with his character more that he doesn't want to 'be sick' and he doesn't care enough about himself. he still has a port in his chest for future treatments but is well enough for outpatient care. he has lost his taste a fair bit so alcohol has become off-putting and makes him very nauseous

the cane is to help with loss of balance and prevent injury from loss of bone density, the fact kazama had a cane made him feel a lot better about using one. i think kashiwagi's extensive injuries also mean his body isn't what it used to be, he understands what its like to have disabilities after being defined by your body for all your life.

More Furry Yakuza Stuff

Okay, so: Tomizawa.

I spent a while looking through lists of Hawaiian fauna, having a loose idea of what I might want. Some form of nervous, skittish prey animal. Rabbits are there, but that's a bit too easy (and I'm a little too fond of making everyone a rabbit.)

I was also thinking a cat would also be appropriate, if push came to shove.

But! There are few terrestrial animals in Hawaii - at least, that are native. Farm animals are also there, but I also thought that would be kind of generic.

Turns out, I completely missed out on one option; an amphibian! And there are 2 options I really liked: the cane toad and the japanese wrinkled frog.

The Japanese wrinkled frog

was introduced in the late 19th century. It's originally from Japan (as you can guess.) They're also true frogs, laying their eggs in various freshwater outlets. They don't necessarily rely on those areas once they're adults, but can be terrestrial.

The cane toad

was also introduced to Hawaii, but it originally came from somewhere else - that place not being Japan. They're an invasive species in many of the territories they have around the world. (It should be mentioned: cane toads are also in Japan, invasively.) They also emit a toxin from their skin that can, in certain circumstances, lead to death (but they're more likely to make you hallucinate for an hour.)

EDIT: Apparently, Japanese wrinkled frogs are also poisonous. I don't know if this has any bearing on anything, just wanted to clarify.

Tomi is biracial, so I figure it would actually be an interesting touch if he was some species featured in Hawaii and Japan.

In the case of the wrinkled frog, the connection is more direct. Cane toads are from south america and regions of the US close to there.

But! Something in me itches to make Tomi a toad. Don't @ me, but: it's because of Pokemon Brain. Tomi uses the elements fire and electricity in a good portion of his attacks. I don't want a frog (typically water type) to be playing with electricity, it seems a bit. Y'know. Dangerous? But Toads are ground + water type, making him have a resistance to both elements.

This is just me gathering my thoughts! But, if anyone in the community has an opinion, I'm open to hearing things. Even if it's that you have an idea you think is cooler re: species.
