Hello. Once again, I wanted to ask about Kpop Demon Hunters. I just wanted to know if you had the opportunity to meet anyone from the cast? If not, if you've seen them from afar or heard about any fun stories or just anything really you can share about them. I follow them on Instagram, and they just seem so nice, I really wanted to hear more about them on the backstage if you could tell us a little bit. Thank you in advance
Hi again!
This one's also a bit of a lengthy response, so read on if you wish!
Unfortunately I wasn't in a position to meet the cast directly- I'd witnessed everything from afar and heard about stuff from my colleagues who DID get to meet the cast directly. Due to how few people were involved with certain actors over others, I cannot specify which of the cast I've had the privilege of "seeing", but what I CAN universally say is that everyone's been very polite, patient, and hard-working. Even from afar, they're upbeat and collaborative when it's time to work, offering Korean versions of lines wherever they can, and sometimes even ad-libs. They'd go so far as to ask about enunciation (e.g. "Do I emphasize [this syllable], or do you think it's better if i emphasize [other suggested syllable]?") as well as pronunciation (e.g. "Should I be pronouncing this with an American accent or Korean accent?"). In all, the cast has been incredibly thoughtful and very thorough in order to really ensure they understood the characters they were playing. During break times I've learned about pets, upcoming projects that were happening while we were making kpdh, food and drink debates, memes that have taken up their attention at a given moment, etc.
inb4 "Omg they're just like us!!" lol
One actor I can speak about, however, is Sungwon Cho (aka ProZD). I didn't actually interact w/ him (directly or indirectly) on kpdh, but he's been on other projects I've worked on in the past. And when it came to THOSE projects, he's been absolutely fantastic. Every showrunner and producer I've worked with that had cast Sungwon Cho has given nothing but praise.
I know that people tend to be in awe about his sheer range, but what I really admire about him is how stoic and cool he is behind the mic. He comes in, rolls up the sleeves, does his lines, and is out the door before you know it. If the showrunners are succinct with their voice directing, he nails it in the first set of reads, if not the 2nd set. A producer I've worked with in the past loves him so much that he feels at ease if his name shows up on the cast list, cuz he knows we never have to request pickups from the characters he plays (yep, he's just that good). I was similarly excited when I found out he was going to be voicing characters on kpop demon hunters but it's a shame that I (still) haven't met him irl. It's fine tho- he never came off as one for small talk during records, so I get the sense that he'd rather keep to himself while on the clock. I dig it. Respect.
Immaculate professional, supremely reliable across all the projects I've been in where he's graced us with his talent, 10/10 would always love to see on any project I'm on.
(But I just gotta say, it still trips me up every time I bring him up at work because I have to remember to refer to him as Sungwon Cho. I actually have to stop the intrusive brainrot voice from winning LOL)
[Wanna catch up? Ask me anything!]
