getting my ass beat by sleepless nights lately. redrew this old underbelly poster-y thang from a few years ago. i still really like the original, i think it has a lot of character!

wanted to post the process for my sleeping beauty piece! for big pieces like this i like to do a couple sketch versions building up detail til i feel confident enough to start slapping down lines. i also have a bad habit of not conceptualizing a background until i start lining the figures, but i think it worked out okay in the end :)

3. What's an event that positively impacted your character's life?

finding the underbelly below maudlin city greatly helped him - before that, he'd been trying to re-establish connection with his demonic patron, and it wasn't going to end well. being introduced to a new place full of people, new mysteries and puzzles to put his mind to, somewhere he could settle down without feeling like an outsider, it was really beneficial for him.

8. What's something your character might casually mention as though it's normal that would worry or confuse other people?

if someone mentions a bad breakup with an ex or troubles with their love life, he's absolutely going to drop something about his experiences that are completely batshit. like 'oh yeah, i know what that's like, my ex tried to have me killed by firing squad twice.'

20. How does your character respond to physical pain?

depends on the severity - a lot of pain doesn't faze laz anymore, just because of how much he's been through. he'll shrug off most of it, it takes something he's never felt before to make him flinch.
