I visited the busy London Book Fair for the first two days. I travelled there mostly for the talks, but was excited to meet a few friends and also introduce myself to a lovely group of SCBWI members outside the fair. I enjoyed the talks very much, especially the ones about picture books with fantastic guest speakers, including the three writers-illustrators from the Baltic states (the market focus next year) featuring the highly successful Kestutis Kasparavicius and an interesting discussion chaired by Martin Salisbury, the MA Children’s Illustration course leader at Cambridge School of Art. I was very happy to discover the english version of ‘The Happy Prince’ at the Thames & Hudson stand, which was illustrated by Maisie Paradise Shearring, a talented fellow graduate of this amazing MA course and the International Award for Illustration winner at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2015. I’m looking forward to visiting Bologna next month, but I will certainly be back to the LBF in 2018!
