so long beach has decided to keep its homeless in a hospital that was shut down due to not being earthquake safe. with the amount they’re paying, they would be able to afford 10 two bedroom apartments year round with double rooms and one bunk. and not even shitty apartments, that amount will get you a renovated 1000-1500 square foot place near the beach with cash to spare for groceries and essentials. we clearly have the budget to house these people more permanently, but nooooo don’t treat them like people don’t give them an apartment house them in a communal setting in a hospital with 5 stories that could collapse on them with the slightest shake

40 Under 40 Winner: Jeff Boulter
by Stephanie Rivera in News
On Thursday, September 29, the Long Beach Post hosted an event to honor young people from around the city who are doing great things to better their community and beyond. Out of hundreds of nominations from our readers, judges chose 40 winners, representing a range of professions and activism. The Post will be profiling each honoree in the coming days.
Jeff Boulter has a history of giving back—whether through serving his country during his time with the U.S. Marine Corps, donating bone marrow, mentoring students, cleaning up beaches, serving the homeless, or even spearheading a startup men’s grooming company, Sir Brilliant.
Sir Brilliant, which sells high quality, all-natural grooming products such as hair pomade, beard oil and lip oil balm, is about having a positive mental attitude and taking care of one’s own hygiene, based on the premise that refining one’s looks can translate into taking care of one’s city—hence its motto: “look great, live brilliant.”
“We try hard to bring a lifestyle of positivity to our company that we want to spread to our surrounding community here in Long Beach,” the 37-year-old Utah native said. “The hope is to help spread that same positive vibe about how great one’s community can be if a little effort is applied.”
Boulter also alluded to an upcoming outreach program with a number of CSULB organizations that will be unveiled in the coming months. It’s all part of his goal to help others, help his community and find new ways to bring new life back to the city and some of the forgotten areas, he said.
Boulter can trace his love for the city to the late 90s when he visited it as a teen traveling with friends. After an honorable discharge at the Marine Corps and a brief stay in San Diego, he decided to go back to the city where he had “such a great experience.” He eventually obtained a business degree from Long Beach City College (LBCC) and a bachelor’s degree in International Business from Cal State Long Beach (CSULB).
“I am not great at being in the spotlight and receiving awards, but for the recognition this might bring to the thought of helping our great city I take it with pride, pride in the people that make this city amazing,” said Boulter of his award.
Stephanie Rivera covers immigration and the north, west and central parts of Long Beach. Reach her at[email protected] or on Twitter at @StephRivera88

This is William Byron Rumford in 1959 he was the first black person from Northern California to serve in the state legislature. A leader in the fight for campaign anti-discriminatory legislation in California, he proposed the creation of the Fair Employment Practices Commission as well as the Unruh Civil Rights Act in 1959. The act stated that anyone, outside of their race or economic class, has the right to participate in business to the best extent they can, including finding housing. Community members gathered at the Long Beach Islamic Center in Signal Hill Friday afternoon to show solidarity with the local Muslim community in the wake of a shooting in New Zealand that left 49 people dead. “When a place like that is violated, anywhere in the world, it is important to come together like we are here and speak out against hatred and violence,” Signal Hill Mayor Tina Hansen said.
