"Buried among Florida’s manicured golf courses and sprawling suburbs are the artifacts of its slave-holding past: the long-lost cemeteries of enslaved people, the statues of Confederate soldiers that still stand watch over town squares, the old plantations turned into modern subdivisions that bear the same name. But many students aren’t learning that kind of Black history in Florida classrooms.
In an old wooden bungalow in Delray Beach, Charlene Farrington and her staff gather groups of teenagers on Saturday mornings to teach them lessons she worries that public schools won’t provide. They talk about South Florida’s Caribbean roots, the state’s dark history of lynchings, how segregation still shapes the landscape and how grassroots activists mobilized the Civil Rights Movement to upend generations of oppression.
“You need to know how it happened before so you can decide how you want it to happen again,” she told her students as they sat as their desks, the morning light illuminating historic photographs on the walls.
Florida students are giving up their Saturday mornings to learn about African American history at the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum in Delray Beach and in similar programs at community centers across the state. Many are supported by Black churches, which for generations have helped forge the cultural and political identity of their parishioners.
Since Faith in Florida developed its own Black history toolkit last year, more than 400 congregations have pledged to teach the lessons, the advocacy group says.
Florida has required public schools to teach African American history for the past 30 years, but many families no longer trust the state’s education system to adequately address the subject.
By the state’s own metrics, just a dozen Florida school districts have demonstrated excellence at teaching Black history, by providing evidence that they are incorporating the content into lessons throughout the school year and getting buy-in from the school board and community partners.
School district officials across Florida told The Associated Press that they are still following the state mandate to teach about the experience of enslavement, abolition and the “vital contributions of African Americans to build and strengthen American society.”
But a common complaint from students and parents is that the instruction seems limited to heroic figures such as the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks and rarely extends beyond each February’s Black History Month.
When Sulaya Williams’ eldest child started school, she couldn’t find the comprehensive instruction she wanted for him in their area. So in 2016, she launched her own organization to teach Black history in community settings.
“We wanted to make sure that our children knew our stories, to be able to pass down to their children,” Williams said.
Williams now has a contract to teach Saturday school at a public library in Fort Lauderdale, and her 12-year-old daughter Addah Gordon invites her classmates to join her.
“It feels like I’m really learning my culture. Like I’m learning what my ancestors did,” Addah said. “And most people don’t know what they did.”"

The New York Police Department named 2020 [University of Pennsylvania] Engineering graduate Luigi Mangione as a “strong person of interest” in the ongoing murder investigation of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. In 2016, Mangione founded Penn’s Game Research and Development Environment, also known as UPGRADE. The game development club aimed to “foster creative expression and cultivate career skills for the artists, programmers, and creatives interested in game development in the Penn community” and grew to include over 50 members. Shortly after the press conference, a Penn Today article about UPGRADE which featured several quotes from Mangione was removed from the website, and a link to the page now directs to an error message. In the article, Mangione discussed his interest in programming and his experience founding the club. In 2017, The Daily Pennsylvanian reported on UPGRADE's attempts to move away from Penn's competitive club culture by admitting anyone who is willing to join without an application. “We discussed if we would seem more legitimate with an application, but that’s not the environment we’re going for. Our goal is to have fun and learn,” Mangione told the DP at the time. “As long as you’re willing to put in the time, you can be a game developer.” In 2018, Mangione — a computer and information science major — was inducted into Penn’s Eta Kappa Nu honor society for excellence in electrical and computer engineering.

池田理代子 Riyoko Ikeda Interview About Oniisama E... (2016)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
池田理代子 Riyoko Ikeda
Mangaka and Vocal artist, she began drawing mangas during her university studies, and her work The Rose of Versailles, serialized in 1972, became a huge success, even turning into a social phenomenon. She became highly appreciated internationally. She received the Excellence Award from the Japanese Cartoonists Association for Orpheus no Mado in 1980. The French government decorated her with the Légion d’Honneur for her contributions to spreading French history and culture in Japan.
What led to the creation of Oniisama E... ?
When the serialization of The Rose of Versailles ended, I had already decided that my next work would be a historical epic : Orpheus no Mado. But since it would take time to prepare for the historical research and start drawing it, I thought I could write something in the meantime (laughs). I feel a bit apologetic calling it just a filler, though, but actually, "Oniisama E..." was born from my own personal experiences. It’s a very important and cherished memory for me, and it just came rushing out all at once.
So, was your correspondence with the "Oniisama" also based on your own experience ?
When I was in my third year of middle school, just like Nanako, there was a preparatory course offered by university students from the University of Tokyo. I asked the graduate student who was in charge of social studies (the model for Takehiko Henmi) the same thing Nanako did: "Could you be my 'Oniisama'?" (laughs). I was deeply fascinated by the concept of an 'Oniisama" It's different from the idea of love, though. Through our letters, I learned a lot about history, religion, and various things. When I mentioned my interest in Christianity, he wrote me, "Christianity, as it is called, not only « participated » in the WW2 but was also one of its central protagonists : This is a historical truth.." I learned so much from those letters and grew a lot. I even went to the University of Tokyo’s May Festival. Actually, the "Oniisama" always had someone with him, like the omiki sake bottle. That person was the model for Takashi Ichinomiya. He was a person with a thin and delicate appearance, giving the impression of a young master from a wealthy family.
What were you like back then (during your school years) ?
I was really bad at sports, but for some reason, I was quite popular with the girls during my middle and high school years. In middle school, which was co-ed, I had good grades, had a very tanned skin, was tall, and completely lacked femininity, maybe that’s why (laughs). Even in high school, younger students would write me letters. After graduating, I found out that knowing someone like 'Ikeda-san' was really a source of pride for them.
Did you have the storyline planned out from the beginning of the serialization to the ending ?
It was more like ideas came to me as I was drawing. I don’t clearly remember if I had planned everything out until the end, but let’s say I had set certain elements in advance. For example, the idea that Kaoru and Henmi would be a couple came to me along the way (laughs). Even for The Rose of Versailles, I hadn’t decided from the start that Oscar and André would end up together. Of course, there are aspects I plan carefully, but in the end, the characters started acting on their own. And when that happens, I feel like the story is "successful."
Nanako is a very emotional girl, but also extremely determined. As for Mariko, she seems to embody the 'tsundere' archetype to some extent.
Nanako is very similar to Rosalie, isn’t she? Devoted, but in the end, she’s the strongest (laughs). For Mariko, there was a real-life model: a friend whose father wrote erotic novels. I gradually incorporated various elements from the people around me. I think many aspects are direct projections. Even the way Kaoru speaks, that’s really how we used to talk back then. We would say things like “Omae-san” (laughs). Oniisama E... reflects a lot of memories and episodes from my student life.
Oniisama E... is a short story, so its general recognition is low, but it has quite a passionate fanbase.
There are many men who tell me, "I'm a fan!". Recently, it's no longer embarrassing for men to enjoy shoujo manga. During autograph sessions, quite a few people enthusiastically tell me, "I love this work!" Some even say, "Oniisama E... is really my favorite!" When I hear that, I can't help but think, "Well, here's a true connoisseur!" (laughs). Of course, there are also many women among the fans. In that regard, I think Oniisama E... has nothing to envy from The Rose of Versailles.
And then, in 1991, it was adapted into an anime.
Actually, I was very busy at the time, so I wasn’t able to watch it properly… What left a strong impression on me, though, was how they carefully portrayed Fukiko’s feelings for Takehiko, which I hadn’t depicted in the original. I thought, "Oh, that’s so wonderful." It really fit perfectly, and there was no sense of discomfort at all.
It's a remarkable aspect of the anime adaptation. I wish I could have read it in your manga as well.
If I had a little more time, I would have liked to draw it myself. Originally, due to the planning period for Orpheus no Mado, I was rushed. Even though I still had many ideas in mind, it felt like I was forced to wrap it up (laughs).
Given what you’ve just mentioned, have you ever thought about remaking or creating a sequel to your own works?
Right now, I’m drawing a chapter for The Rose of Versailles, but... the art from that time was really bad, and I even hate re-reading it. I realize there were things I could only draw back then. When the serialization of The Rose of Versailles ended, I realized that in order to depict Europe, I would have needed much more knowledge of Christianity. That’s why, before starting Orpheus no Mado, I spent a lot of time studying Christianity. I don’t think I could have drawn the story without that knowledge. A work is the product of its time, of its era, the sensitivities, and the knowledge of the author, so remaking something seems difficult to me.
In 2017, you'll be celebrating your 50th anniversary as a writer.
I can't believe it's already been so long, and at the same time, I realize that some parts of my body are starting to hurt, which reminds me of my age (laughs). I've also been very active in music, but lately, progress has been slower. However, I truly want to cherish each passing year. For me, true happiness is living in a way that I would never regret anything, even if I were to die tomorrow. There's no reason to look back on the past. After all, it’s impossible to rewrite it. I don’t reread my works much either (laughs). I’ve lived my way, sometimes causing trouble to others, but doing what I wanted (laughs).
For this Blu-ray release, new illustrations were specially drawn.
I wasn’t satisfied with the drawings of The Rose of Versailles because I think they were awkwardly executed. Personally, I think Oniisama E... is the work where I drew the best. At that time, I was able to draw very precisely, even the lines were very clean. Over time, some works become hard to rediscover, but Oniisama E... is the one I drew almost effortlessly, simply letting the ideas flow. That’s why, even today, I can dive back into it without effort (laughs).
To those who have brought this product.
Oniisama E... is a work that originates from my own experiences, and it’s the work that I’ve let mature the longest, so I have a strong emotional connection to it. The idea for The Rose of Versailles came to me when I was in my second year of high school, which is quite early, but Oniisama E... came even before that. I would like as many people as possible to see and read it.
About Osamu Tezuka :
He wasn’t my lover, nor a relative, and calling him a friend would be too presumptuous. When I heard the news of his death, I really hit the desk and cried uncontrollably. That feeling was something I’d never experienced before, and it was the first time I felt that way about Tezuka-sensei. I truly respected him. Recently, it’s been the same with Muhammad Ali. Tezuka-sensei's Wellspring of the Crane was the first work that deeply moved me when I read it. It really squeezed my heart. I read it at a friend's house, and after returning home, I couldn’t eat, and my mother wondered if I had picked up some food off the ground. Ah, no one could understand! I remember thinking, as a child, that my sensitivity was different from others! (laughs).
Source: Oniisama E... Blu-Ray BOX SET Booklet.
Note : The translation might not be the most accurate word-for-word, but i did my best to make it coherent.

Many of Harris’s mistakes were similar to those Hillary Clinton made in 2016. Like Clinton, Harris cozied up to billionaire donors. Mark Cuban, for instance, said he was delighted that Harris was abandoning Democrats’ commitments to progressive principles and letting the business community propose the policies it wanted. Like Clinton, Harris and Tim Walz made hubristic campaign stops in solidly red states like Texas and Kentucky rather than spending the final days laser-focused on crucial battlegrounds. Like Clinton, Harris emphasized celebrity endorsements while failing to successfully court unions. (Most notably, the Teamsters declined to endorse her after she refused to pledge that she wouldn’t break a national railway strike.) Like Clinton, Harris focused too much on the danger of Donald Trump (which is very real) and not enough on the reasons why she would be good at being president herself. Most importantly, like Clinton, Harris ultimately decided upon a strategy of trying to woo moderate Republican voters away from Trump, reasoning that it didn’t matter if doing so alienated progressive voters and the Democratic base. Chuck Schumer, speaking of Hillary’s 2016 strategy, infamously promised: "For every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania, we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia. And you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin." In fact, they just lost the blue-collar Democrats and didn’t pick up the Republicans! In 2024, Harris, too, aggressively touted endorsements from Republicans, promised to put a Republican in her cabinet (she even cited that as the answer to what she would have done differently from Biden!), and went so far as to praise and embrace Dick and Liz Cheney! The strategy was an abject failure. Because she wanted to appease both Republicans and progressive voters, Harris had to further indulge her weakness for speaking in meaningless word salads, since taking stances that were meaningful could have alienated one of these constituencies. Trump, who is canny about portraying himself as more anti-war than Democrats, correctly pointed out that an endorsement from the hawkish Cheneys should be a badge of shame, not honor. (Specifically he said Cheney is “"the King of Endless, Nonsensical Wars, wasting Lives and Trillions of Dollars, just like Comrade Kamala Harris. I am the Peace President, and only I will stop World War III!")
[...]
The lesson to Democratic leaders in 2016 should have been that Bernie Sanders had been right, that the party had betrayed working-class voters and would be doomed if it could not effectively counter Trump’s pseudo-populist appeal with a visionary alternative. (See the excellent analysis in Thomas Frank’s Listen, Liberal.) Unfortunately, the lessons weren’t learned then, and it doesn’t seem like they’re going to be learned now, either! MSNBC anchor Joy Reid is already insisting that Kamala Harris’s campaign was “flawless” (because she got “every prominent celebrity voice”), and pundits like Jill Filipovic are saying things like, “this election was not an indictment of Kamala Harris. It was an indictment of America.” (Good luck ever winning with the slogan “You’re the problem, America!”) USAToday’s Michael Stern says that instead of talking about “where the Harris campaign went wrong” we should talk about “where the American people went wrong.” The Harris campaign itself is blaming unspecified “obstacles that were largely out of our control.”

Oliver Bjorkstrand: A Belated Goodbye
(and hello Lightning Lb)
So! Oliver Bjorkstrand is so longer a Seattle Kraken. As he moves on to his new home in Tampa Bay, I wanted to take a moment and send along some of his lore. He deserves a run; he deserves a home. We’re sad we couldn’t be that for him. Let’s review here… lore featuring a textbook portrait of a gifted kid, complete with a demanding father, psychological mind games from his father’s friend, grief, heartbreak and also…enduring friendship and resilience. Let’s go!
Tumblr media
Bjorky is from an American family but born in Denmark since his father was a hockey player who was incentivized to play in Denmark.
His dad was friends with John Tortorella in college hockey.
This is important.
While Ollie was growing up, his dad was probably one of the most well-known names in hockey. Which made the attention on Ollie all the more intense. Plus: his dad coached him. (Ollie is the little baby in the blue helmet)
Tumblr media
Of that time, reflecting back on it later, Ollie has said: “My dad’s pretty demanding. He expects hard work and so on.” His dad fairly infamously suspended 5 teenagers from his own team from the World Juniors for goofing off during a media apperance. Oliver has said he noticed that his dad has softened his approach since those times coaching his son.
And of coaching Oliver, his dad says: “Oliver was young. He was only 16. And he was pretty easy. He pretty much just tries to do his best when you give him instructions.”
Overall, the coaching worked: Oliver becomes excellent.
He begins his career in Denmark and quickly outpaces the skill level there, leading him to being selected 26th overall in the WHL import draft in 2012. He moves to the States to play for the Portland Winterhawks.
In 2013, he is selected 89th overall in the NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He will return to the WHL for the next couple seasons, where he wins championships and overall dominates the league. People know Oliver Bjorkstrand’s name.
He starts professionally in the AHL for the 2015-16 season, then makes his NHL debut in March of 2016.
He scores two goals in his second NHL game. The kid’s good.
He’s sent back to the AHL for their Calder Cup run and lmao Bjorkstrand literally wins them the Calder Cup dude like he scores the game winning goal in SO many of these games, including the final one!
HAHA FUCK THE HERSHEY BEARS (sorry, kraken fan, I have to say this, sorry) the Monsters win against them for the Calder Cup!
And Oliver is named the Most Valuable Player :)
Tumblr media
Oliver belongs up with the NHL the next season and now we have to talk about a very important part of his lore.
John Tortorella is in charge of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
And he is. Very intense with Oliver Bjorkstrand. Oliver deflects a lot of the intensity by saying that he was prepared for Torts style by being coached by his dad, who is very similar. Which. Okay. Feeling normal about that!!
Where to start…there’s so much:
Torts tells Bjorkstrand that, to be a good player, he needs to copy Artemi Panarin. He doesn’t need to be Oliver Bjorkstrand; he needs to be more like an entirely different player. A player with a language barrier so high that Oliver can’t even become friends with him or have many conversations with him. He just has to try (and he fails) to become more like him.
He tells Bjorkstrand to be more like Panarin in front of the whole team, on the ice at practice. And the whole team is asked to support it, with Nick Foligno stating “[Bjorky] would be stupid not to learn from [Panarin]. And we know he’s not stupid.”
Torts pits Bjorkstrand and Anthony Duclair against one another, publicly, stating that there’s only room for one of them on the third line and the other one will be scratched if he isn’t good enough. This is discussed openly. Multiple articles about it.
The media has a field day, getting quotes from all parties involved and seeing who will please Tortorella the most.
This drags on, as Bjorkstrand struggles to get basic respect and regular ice time, but eventually he does. The Jackets enter the playoffs consistently from 2016-17 onwards.
Upon elimination from the playoffs in the 2020-2021 playoffs (a very strange pandemic series) he makes a statement: he wants to keep going. Despite the struggles of these early years with Torts, he is a committed Blue Jacket. He signs a five-year extension to remain with them in 2021.
That summer, he suffers the loss of Matiss Kivlenieks with the rest of his teammates. It could break them, but they show up to training camp ready to go for him.
And Oliver Bjorkstrand shows up with a brand new A on his sweater. They win in their home opener, and Bjorkstrand says of their lost goalie, “We played for him.”
He is a leader in this team. He certainly worked for it. But moves are necessary to bolster a broken team.
Tumblr media
The Jackets don’t make the playoffs in the 21-22 season and Oliver Bjorkstrand spends his long summer getting married.
And then, during his honeymoon, he picks up his phone to find multiple missed calls and messages from his GM.
Oliver Bjorkstrand has been traded. On his honeymoon. To the very much struggling Seattle Kraken heading into their second season.
General manager Kekalainen says this was “the toughest decision” he’d made as a GM, sharing how wonderful Oliver is as a person.
He is gracious about it. He understands. He knows that his salary is high and space needs to be made, mostly for Johnny Gaudreau who is bringing much needed stardom for the team.
Ever the team player, ever the class act, Bjorkstrand and his wife reach out to Johnny and Meredith and personally sell them their new house so they don’t need to look too much for a house to move into. To make the move easy on two people even as they’re forced out.
So Oliver comes to Seattle. He struggles but he also doesn’t have to be EXCELLENT. He can be steady.
When Seattle adds on Eeli Tolvanen, Bjorky seems to bloom a little more. They become very close, laughing and talking constantly during games.
Those two get put on a line with Yanni Goirde and become affectionately known as the Brothers Line. Why?
“Those guys bicker like brothers,” head coach Dave Hakstol says of the three. They push each other. They joke. They’re goofing off and they’re also productive.
Oliver and his line get all the way to the first playoff appearance of the Kraken’s history.
And Oliver Bjorkstrand gets the game winning goal in game seven of their first playoff series.
No, the Kraken did not win the Cup. Of course not. But he did win them a playoff series that NO ONE expected them to win. And that secured him a spot in our hearts.
The next season, the Kraken are back to struggling, but Bjorkstrand continues to put the work in to be the steady presence with occasional game-breaking goals that we’ve grown to expect from him.
He is named all-star and he is…so Oliver Bjorkstrand about it lmao it’s so funny. If you know anything about him before this, it’s most likely this? Here’s an article.
At the All-Star game, he’s last to be chosen at the draft :/ but he scores first in the game for his team :)
Unfortunately, the Kraken continue to struggle after this and beyond, into the next season.
In November 2024, he’s healthy scratched for the first time in years. Coach Dan Bylsma (who replaced the fired Hakstol) sent the message that no one on the team was beyond reproach, including our current all-star.
And the media, they, uh. They asked Oliver’s dad about it.
Imagine getting scolded at work and then some people go and ask your dad about it lmao but he says: “He’s just got to take it and learn from it and try to be better.”
Great lmao
Bjorkstrand isn’t radically different after that, and his name begins to be floated around as a trade piece because he still isn’t to the level the Kraken hoped he would be when they traded for him in 2022.
He is traded during trade deadline week in 2025, along with Yanni Gourde, to Tampa.
And this is where we are now.
Tumblr media
So this is who Oliver Bjorkstrand has been: a father’s protege, a juniors’ phenom, an AHL champion, a coach’s project, a gracious trade piece, a man who sells his home to the guy who pushed him out of town, a player who cancels his vacation to represent his team, a guy who looks like a professor but will drop the gloves in a second if so asked.
His NHL playoff appearance over the five years has only ever come in unexpected seasons, as the underdog. He was excellent in that appearance. EXCELLENT. I’m so excited to see how being a true contender ties in with that play.
And if we can stop asking his dad’s opinion when he fucks up, that would be AWESOME that would BE GREAT.
Anyway. I love him. Here’s him being really hot in Columbus.

Joker Out Masterpost for new fans
New fan of Joker Out? Say no more!
Getting to know a new artist you’ve found can be intimidating if it’s all in another language, so we’ve compiled some of our favourite interviews, articles and lore here! You’ve arrived in a wonderful fanbase, welcome from all of us here at JokerOutSubs!
If you’d just like a short overview of the band and their history, you can watch this excellent Finnish summary of them that we’ve translated (14m 53s).
youtube
But if you want to dive into the details, then check out our timeline, full of videos and articles translated by JokerOutSubs!
Timeline graphic:
Tumblr media
Timeline in details below the cut 👇
Timeline in details:
How did the band form?
Joker Out was formed from two bands, Apokalipsa and Buržuazija.
Apokalipsa included Bojan Cvjetićanin (vocals), Martin Jurkovič (bass) and Matic Kovačič (drums)
They gained some traction with young people around Slovenia, particularly with their song 'Mogoče' ('Maybe'), which you can watch on YouTube here.
They came to the attention of Kris Guštin, who was inspired to start learning guitar! He discusses the details in this video (at 9:40).
Kris then met Jan Peteh, another student of his guitar teacher, and at their teachers advice, they formed the band Buržuazija.
Bojan attended their second ever gig in 2016, and decided these two excellent guitarists were exactly what had been missing from Apokalipsa, as he wasn’t happy with their current guitarists. He asked them to join, and they accepted
The new lineup (Bojan, Jan, Kris, Martin and Matic) decided to rename themselves Joker Out. The name means nothing, but they thought it sounded good and was the ‘least horrible’ of all the ideas they could think of.
So, in 2016, Joker Out was officially formed!
November 2016, Kot srce ki kri poganja:
Joker Out’s first music video was for their song ‘Kot srce ki kri poganja’ ('Like a heart that pumps blood'), filmed in Jan’s hometown of Vrhnika! We eventually got this song on Spotify on their 2023 album Live from Arena Stožice!
Music video: Kot srce ki kri poganja
English Interview (from 3:37 to 6:05): Joker Out discusses filming the music video
June 2017, Špil Liga:
One of the earliest performances for Joker Out was at Špil Liga, a competition for young bands in Slovenia. They won, and recorded their winning song, Omamljeno telo (intoxicated body) in November as part of the prize.
Live (33m): Joker Out at Špil liga
Interview (5m): Reflections on Špil Liga in 2023
c.2017/18, Bojan’s attempt at going solo:
The band took a hiatus c.2017/18, and Bojan considered going solo at that time, even working with a few producers. He eventually realised that he belonged with the band! Hear him tell the story:
Reel (1m 23s): A1 Vajb - Bojan’s fail
2019, A change up for the band:
The band began working with their current producer, Žare Pak, and their videographer Mark Pirc, in 2019 - both of whom have been referred to as the sixth member of the band. This led to a change in their sound and production quality, which culminated in ‘Gola’ ('Naked'), the first of their songs to be a big hit!
Music video: Gola
Zlata piščal ('Golden Flute') - Best New Artist 2019:
Joker Out won their first Zlata piščal award in 2019, for best new artist (one of many they’d go on to win!) This is a kind of Slovenian Grammy! Covid interrupted the proceedings, but you can see their interview for it here (3m 59s)-
Interview: Joker Out wins a Zlata piščal ('Golden Flute') for Best New Artist 2019
Umazane misli, and a new member:
During the Covid times, the band began recording their first studio album, 'Umazane misli' ('Dirty thoughts'), which was originally going to be released in March 2020 but was repeatedly delayed until October 2021. The first half was recorded with drummer Matic Kovačič, but the band felt they needed something extra and brought in Jure Maček to help write the arrangements. They loved him so much, he never left!
Interview (from 10:40 to 11:36): Bojan talks briefly about Jure joining the band
COVID times, and Cvetličarna:
The band had arranged to do two concerts at Cvetličarna, a very important venue in Slovenia and a big break for them. This was delayed several times due to Covid, but eventually managed to go ahead in October 2021 for the release of their first album.
Video (1m 14s): Cvetličarna promotional video
Live (1h 28m): Joker Out at Cvetličarna
Interview (34m 55s): Bojan discusses Cvetličarna, its importance, and Covid
Umazane misli album launch:
'Umazane misli' was extremely well received! The band would go on to win two more Zlata piščal awards, Newcomers of the Year in 2020 and Artist of the Year in 2021.
Interview (37m 08s): Umazane misli album presentation
An acting career for Bojan?
Around the same time as 'Umazane misli' was released, Bojan began considering an acting career. He acted in two episodes of the series ‘Gospod Professor’ and in another series, which was eventually reworked as a film called ‘Kaj pa Ester’ and released in December 2023. He decided music was his passion though, and he wanted to fully focus on that.
Interview (from 10:04 to 11:30): Bojan discusses his acting career

September 2022, Križanke:
The band got straight to work writing their second album, 'Demoni' ('Demons'), and decided to present it in September 2022 at Križanke, another hugely important venue in Slovenia. This whole concert wasn’t recorded, but we have an interesting advertisement they did for it, an interview and a clip of one song live from Križanke!

Interview (2m 16s): Joker Out with parachutes to Križanke?
Live (4m 7s): 'Novi val' ('New wave') live at Križanke

After Križanke at the end of 2022, Martin Jurkovič, one of the founding members of the band, made the decision to leave to focus on his studies.
Video (2m 20s): Martin's departure
Thankfully, he was replaced by the wonderful Nace Jordan, who remains the bassist in the current lineup.

2023, Eurovision:
Joker Out were then internally selected to go to Eurovision 2023, and began recording their Eurovision song, 'Carpe Diem', in Hamburg in December 2022. To learn more, you can watch the Carpe Diem series, a documentary series which followed their entire journey.

They also released their next English single, 'Everybody’s Waiting', in February.

───── 🪼🫧 𓂃 ⋆* LIFE IS STRANGE
a look at what y/n’s life was like before she debuted in ateez.
born in misty falls, south carolina, y/n would live a rather normal life in the united states. that is until her and her parents move to osaka, japan when she's five for her mother's job. with her family moving across the world, y/n would continue her life and education in japan from about 2005-2012.
while living in japan, y/n would continue to live a rather normal life as she learned to speak a new language along with adapting to a new culture and school. y/n was quickly able to make friends at school through elementary and middle school. while living in japan during this time, y/n would become heavily interested in both j-pop and k-pop, especially the later as it was quickly rising in popularity. y/n would later cite that she was obsessed with hikaru utada, abba, boa, and girl's generation.
former classmates of the idol cited that y/n was often a "model student" and always excelled in her classes. in middle school, she also joined student council and helped planned several school events. during school festivals, her and her friends would often perform at the festival doing covers of popular j-pop and k-pop songs. one video of y/n and her friends performing was posted online around 2019 and has since become a viral clip within the atiny community.
it wouldn't be until 2012 when y/n's life would begin to change as she was approached by an sm entertainment scout during her school's festival which her and her friends performed an original song along with several covers of different j-pop girl groups. the scout had told y/n that she should consider auditioning for the company because she "had a lot of talent" that sm entertainment could help her become an idol like the ones she did covers of.
at first her parents were strongly against letting y/n audition having assumed that this was a scam and would end badly. however, y/n managed to convince them to at least let her go to a public sm audition that was happening in tokyo. her parents agreed and y/n traveled with her close friend, who was going for support, to tokyo.
y/n would pass her audition and as a result, y/n would travel to south korea so she can begin her training as an idol. while at sm, y/n would work on learning the language and be enrolled into an international school which is where she would continue her studies.
in 2013, y/n would be revealed to the public as a member of sm rookies and the korean public would immediately favor her as compared to other sm rookies her age. netizens would praise her singing and dancing that was being showcased through sm rookie station videos.
in 2015, y/n along with several other sm rookies would appear on the show mickey mouse club [1] which a lot of fans think is where y/n would fall even more into public favor as it was able to showcase her talents more. many netizens would comment on how funny and likable she was and how she had a good relationship with her fellow trainees. sm would see the public favoritism towards her and even allow her to have a solo stage on the show with her singing "can't say i'm in love" from disney's hercules.
however, before the end of 2015, y/n would leave the company after sm would reveal to have no concrete plans of debut for her. this is also noted by many netizens online as they have also began to voice how upset they are towards sm for not debuting y/n yet, especially since she was one of their most popular trainees. after the debut of red velvet and the plan for nct to debut – which both featured former sm rookies. the news of y/n leaving sm would shock online forums. the news would also lead to a lot of companies contacting y/n and her parents wanting the trainee to join their companies with promises of "debuting by the end of the year" or "debuting by next year". y/n; however, would decide to take a break from training in order to focus on her studies.
a few months into 2016; however, y/n would be continuing her studies, hanging out with friends, while also still searching for a new company to join. y/n would be talking to some classmates who went to a dance academy and talked about one of the other dancers there and how he had recently joined a small company. seeing videos of this boy dancing, y/n would become interested in him before she eventually found and did research on the company her classmate told her about. this would lead y/n to personally emailing the company's ceo telling him that she was interested in joining their company. the company was called kq entertainment.
when the kq's ceo responded, y/n would travel to the company with her housemate / guardian, jiwon, in order to speak with the ceo and other higher-ups at kq.
when she meets the ceo, he would tell her that there is only two other trainees currently with her being the third. at first, y/n was worried that maybe she made a mistake with choosing kq, but she would eventually meet the other two trainees – recognize one of them from her classmate's dance video – and would soon get to know the two and become close friends with them. (spoiler: the two trainees are hongjoong and yunho)
eventually, other trainees would join the company and y/n was once again starting to wonder if she would get to debut as only male trainees were joining. upon voicing her concern to fellow trainee hongjoong, he would promise that they would debut together no matter what. this would lead to him convincing kq to let y/n official join their pre-debut team, kq fellaz. once news of y/n preparing to debut in a male-dominated group circulated, many netizens shared mixed reactions of both surprise and concern for the female trainee. some netizens even assumed that kq was using y/n's popularity as clout for their group and would begin protest to try and get her removed from the group. however, y/n would show netizens and fans that kq was not using her for clout and that she had a genuine friendship with the other members of kq fellaz.
eventually on october 24, 2018, y/n would debut as a member of ateez.

Part 1 2016-2018 > Part 2 2019-2022
In 2013, after becoming the World and European KZ class Champion, European OF class Champion, Continental KF class champion, and 3rd place laureate in the World KF class, 15 year old Max Verstappen had turned that years karting scene into a 'one man show' according to Vroomkart International. The title of the piece wasted no time posing what was, admittedly, a very bold question:
Tumblr media
Gentlemen, a short view into the 2023 season
Baku, 2023. Ik what ur thinking. 19 wins and ur gonna start wid fucking Baku? And yes 🙂I will, and so shud u 🫵🏽Max lost Baku. The pole, the sprint and the race. Lingered about 3 secs behind checo after the SC, never closed the gap. And guess what, Baku was actually one of the most important races of this season, Maxs own words. Because that inconsistent pace? Those choppy lap times, killing his tires? Max was learning how to setup his car. Rb19 was clearly rb18s big brother, a real sunday beast, faster, more reliable, but a lil sensitive, demanded some hands on attention from his boy. So Max turned Baku into their fp4. U can c it on his onboard, hear him asking for different settings, toggling wid the balance. Those of us who know Max, we kinda suspected what he was up to. But it seemed others didnt. And whatvr max was about to do to these people in Miami bro, it wud be the type of reckoning u read about in the bible.
Miami, 2023. When max qualified p9 cheers echoed across both Americas. After the Baku loss, the slow start to the season, there was hope. Max Verstappen was about to lose the championship lead. People bought into the fairytale and they were loud about it too. They taunted him, booed him and his mechanics in parc ferme. And then Max was p2 by lap 15. Cut thru the field like butter and the whole stint he kept setting purples. Fastest lap after fastest lap. By lap 40 his hards were outpacing fresh mediums on a track u cud fry an egg on. Red bulls strategy for Max required the impossible and that's exactly what Max delivered. Before Miami, Checo was a title contender. After Miami, he was barely a competitor. Max took the 'tire whisperers' ambitions and grinded them into dust in 45 laps or less. It was the race that marked the beginning of the most dominant individual season in Formula 1 history but at its core, in classic Verstappen style, it was a lesson. A very simple one.
Tumblr media
Shot by Brook Ward.
Monaco, 2023
- Qualifying Yk who doesn’t give a FUCK about lessons tho, Monaco. Monaco wont be taught by no man. But it’s 2023. This classic immovable object about to meet the most unstoppable force in modern sport history. Max's very first pole in Monaco, and fittingly so, it came out of an all-timer session. One of those saturdays that make u understand why the tax dodging diva of f1 is going absolutely nowhere. Pole switched between Ocon, Yuki, Sharl and Alonso right up until Max did his thing. 2 mins to the checkered flag, it looked like Nando had it locked. 2 untouchable purples, textbook. It wud have been a beautiful moment, a deserved reward for an old dawg who’d kept at it and had a capable car again. Unfortunately for Nando, though, Sennas illegitimate child clocked in that Saturday. He had a bit of a history wid third sectors that once fucked him. But it's 2023, so this wud be the one that made him. Max put 3 tenths on Alonso's head in one of the shortest, most technical corners of the entire calendar. F1's 'sunday' driver by excellence, the one stop pacemaker, the metronome, the endurance machine, proved that he was all that and also, in fact, the type of elite qualifier who can write his signature on the walls of Monte Carlo.
- Race Monaco is all about Saturday obvi but imo this years race is also worth watching because its actually kind of a banger wid mixed conditions, insane strategies and because this is a verstappie rewatch, u get to c Max at his best: in a chaotic packed field under the rain.
Canada, 2023. Speaking of rain masters. Senna's legend has been clinging to Max from the very first time he traumatized wet cat Rosberg in Brazil in 2016 but it was this year, in Canada, wid Nando and Lewis by his side, the guys who were also there, who saw it happen too, that Max finally matched Senna's win tally. 41. It was a perfect weekend, a testament to the talent that allowed a 26 year old to overtake Ayrton Senna in the record book, and it began, as if in tribute, wid a soaking wet qualifying. Max's pole lap was one second faster than the rest of the grid. One full second. If ur a Nando or a Lewis fan, I wud definitely give it sunday a watch as well because old gays were definitely out there. Also we got this. What yall know about this .
Tumblr media
Shot from Nurphoto.
Lemme tell u something rn: Ur looking at 12 world championships, 189 wins, and a 14 year old gap from youngest to oldest. You're looking at statistically, the most successful driver of all time, the guy whose racecraft still seen by many as the finest this sport has ever seen, and a kid who's been sitting between them since he was 17 years old. The same kid who, a few racers later, broke records that existed long before the other two were even born. Yk, Lewis said it better than I ever cud, 'this is quite an iconic top 3'.
Austria, 2023. Why are u a Verstappen fan? U ever been asked that question. Ik i have. 😐 Lots of possible answers. To me Austria has all of them. In Canada, Checo barely made the finish line while Max pushed rbr to their 100th team victory and ((unofficially)) began his chase of the Vettel record. Mind u the mf wont admit that’s what he’s doing, but it is. Him, GP, the whole team. They want it. But we'll get to that. Max is a hunter, and his boy car is the best hound of his career so far. Together, they’d caught the scent. Races like Australia, Spain, Monaco, Canada, they showed it was possible. His management was getting Schumacher shouts, his qualifying was getting Senna's. Clarks proficiency. 2023 can be understood as the result of Max's life long pursuit of perfection, the crowning point of his hard work, the realization of all his potential, that prodigal nature that had been so obvious for so long, finally, entering its prime wid a car that can make history. And yet. AND YET. max has something that all those other legendary mfs lack. Something that is deeply, deeply Max’s. Free practice 1 in Austria and that talented, beautiful creature of God was ready to send it all to hell to make a POINT. Austria was a sprint this year, so already you've pissed him off. During fp1, Lewis impeded Max like once.
((And listen
Lewis saw that boy enter the paddock and immediately called security and along wid seb vettel and raikkonen launched a class action lawsuit against him on the grounds of a) fuck b) them kids. Then 6 years later Lewis and that now grown ass man spent a whole legendary season trying to kill each other. U c how this relationship may have some residue of . lets say. conflict.))
So Lewis impeded Max in fp1 and Max's raytheon hamilton-calibrated sensors activated and he did nothing less but the exact same thing in sprint qualifying. Blocked old mans flying lap. Lewis is limping thru this weekend, mind u, like it’s almost sad. It’s kinda elderly abuse. THEN, the actual sprint. Again, Austria is red bull's home turf. packed wid red bull fans. The car is a rocket, they're on a streak, lots of good photo ops for the team. It started raining. Even better. Lights out, and Checo took the lead first and in the process like . squeezed Max a lil bit. Pushed him on the grass. U can guess what happened next. 😐😐😐😐To answer that first question and to quote somebody who knows him, Max is Max. No matter where, how, against who. Wid a rocketship, wid a hole in his car, winning, losing, fighting for the lead against Lewis Hamilton, fighting for sixth against baby schumi, refusing to comply wid team orders against sainz, scolding danny ric about discipline, waiting 7 months to deliver his justice in brazil, calling russell a dickhead in Baku, whether in front of 300 000 haters in Silverstone of half a million fans in Spielberg, he'll do what he thinks is right. Thats the kind of mf that wins constructors all by himself. 575 points, on his own. Over 1000 laps lead. Max Verstappen has not succeeded in f1 despite his character, but because of it. Because when Checo squeezed him at the start of a stupid fucking sprint that wont make a dent in his records or his lead, Max collected his car and lunged thru the inside line like the title wud be decided in the next turn. He was willing to send himself, checo, and a goddamn haas to hell to remain at the front. And that’s why I'm a fan.
Zandvoort, 2023. 9 consecutive wins. A race that u feel in ur stomach because you know what it means. The sheer size of the accomplishment. That word ringing in everybodys ears since Miami. Inevitable. inevitable. Up until it happened, and then obvi Monza wid the perfect 10, nobody really wanted to believe it. seb's 9 was one of those things held sacred and hallowed by the sport. Like Schumachers points in a season, Ascaris win percentage, Clarks laps lead, and Hamiltons consecutive podiums. Sacred things. And in 2023, the nonbeliever broke them all. Grasped and squeezed wid his very cynical hands. They’re his now. No one else’s. What he did, no one else can do. Max is always outstanding in Zandvoort tbh, thats his track, his fans, his weather. But this years quali was particularly emblematic of the gap to the rest of the grid , and his teammate especially. 1.7s faster than checo. The race was just as impressive. Rain hit early on, complete chaos, and while everybody scrambled to choose the right tires, GP was in Max’s ear, calm as ever, 'it’s up to you'. It really was. It always was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zandvoort, 2023. > Monza, 2023.
Japan, 2023. Red Bulls factory crowning weekend. Coming out a disaster Singapore, yet another statement win. Singapore had showed what it took to slow down Verstappen in 2023: not just the wrong setup, but the wrong strategy too. As we'll c in Texas, like we've seen in 2016, 2019, 2020, a machine off the pace alone wont stop Max from winning races. In Suzuka, rocky was back into his operational window, and Max proved exactly who was it that singlehandedly delivered the constructors championship. One of those classic Max weekends. 20 drivers on track but 2 different leagues and he's on his own. Wid a 177 point lead over his teammate, yet another record broken, biggest point gap between 1st and 2nd. ((In the end, the margin was 290)). Max names Suzuka as his most satisfying pole lap of the season. Bro put half a second on the grid in one go.
COTA, 2023. just something in the Americas ((me)) that unlocks the extra prodigal gene in this mf. Talent of the century? Put his ass in North America we can stretch that shit to the millennium idc idc . Miami, Texas, Brazil, Mexico, and now Vegas, to me these are cornerstones of Verstappen excellence. Max holds the record for most wins in a single geographical location over one season. ((Of course he does)) 10 consecutive wins in NA, across state lines, country borders, wid different conditions, tracks, circuits, tires, formats, setups. This years’ Austin GAG? Apparently they didn’t set the tarmac right. track was a bumpy mess. Max struggled from the start wid braking issues and tire wear, but he kept his head cool because he knew he had the basics. There was once a time before the rb19 , when all he had was a cap and 1 year of open wheel experience, and his 18 year old self put on a clinic against a 30 year old world champion on how to defend on old faulty rubber. That’s exactly what Max did in Cota. Bro was able to make up for aerodynamic loss wid nothing but pedal and wheel work. Do not talk to him during braking. Do not fucking talk to him during braking. That’s all Max asked. 50th win. Offically 3rd OAT, behind Vettel, Hamilton and Schumacher. ((He’s now alone in 3rd OAT, wid 53 wins.)). He’s 26. After Merc and Ferrari were proclaimed ‘illegal’ what truly shocked me wasn’t that they tried to cheat, but that they wud try to pull that shit against this Verstappen, in this car, in 2023. They lowered their floors for smoother suspensions to fight Adrian Neweys Frankenstein monster but the real machine was sitting right behind the wheel. And he won. Actually, he mollywhooped those bitches. Not the floor, not the wings, just a damn good racing driver. Good luck next time.
Qatar gp, 2023. Dutch man allergic to winning world championships in a normal way, millions left emotionally berated every year begging for the sweet release of ted kravitzs voice. No I’m jk but actually tell me why this fool cud not have waited for the race to clinch it. Bro had the title confirmed by a sprint where he finished SECOND. As a verstappie, imma tell u to watch this because it’s like. get out of my face rn I love you so much I’m so happy for u also that helmet is so pretty. In Qatar, Max became 1 of 5 drivers who won back to back to back world championships. After the year 2000, 1 of 3. Along wid the biggest championship margin in the most successful season of all time, well. 1 of 1.
Las Vegas, 2023. ummm ok ik this may SHOCK u but he wasn’t a fan. Max spent the whole season bitching about Vegas and breaking records and threatening retirement like that’s literally a fair description of events. Just very verstappen and migraine inducing type of shit. But yes, Vegas. Vegas held no old school appeal whatsoever. And he was right about some things. He never berated the circuit itself, the quality of the racing, just the show around it. U shud build for the track, not around it. It’s not that difficult to understand, or even that unpopular. But Max forgot about one important thing that wud prolly hurt his cause. He has never landed on US soil and not served. The plot armor wud simply never let my baddie have her AHA!!!!moment in Nevada. So I want u to open that cringe FUCKING compilation Sunday stream of the Vegas gp and c what happens when a sleep deprived verstappen and his so called ‘dominant’ ‘untouchable’ ‘unbeatable’ ‘rocket ship’ are released on a frozen track wid barely any data because one of the potholes burst and cut practices into 10 mins. Bitch what happens is good fucking f1 😭😭😭 Some real formula uno cabron 😭😭 Max retakes the lead at the start, overcooks his frozen tires, pushes sharl off, gets a penalty, serves his penalty, comes back wid gods wrath emanating from his fugly white helmet, obliterates the gap to first and Russell along wid it ((🫡)) passes both cars in front in one slick veteran move and sinks his teeth into p1 for the remaining 13 laps. And wins. Maybe not his most characteristic win, but def the funniest one. Stupid ass even sang Elvis. That’s an f1 driver bitch. He can’t trick me.
Here we are. Abu Dhabi. Breathe out. Red Bull won constructors in Japan, Max won the drivers championship in Qatar. It all started wid a lesson, remember? Max was a good teacher. He spent 8 months making sure we learned. Did you?
By Abu Dhabi, 2023, Max had officially set 20 new records, including the record for most records broken in a season by a single driver. 5 of those achievements had already been set in 2022, just upgraded in 2023: most wins in a season, most podiums in a season, most consecutive wins from pole, most hat tricks in a season, and most consecutive top two finishes in history. 3 of his achievements, however, kept him on the hunt until the very last lap: 3rd most wins of all time, over a 1000 laps lead, and the highest percentage of wins in the sports history. Max got them all. He’s now, statistically, the sole protagonist of the most dominant season in f1, and f1’s 3rd most successful driver, behind Schumacher and Hamilton. Max won 19 out of 22 races. 10 of those wins were consecutive. Right now, he’s already on another streak. 3 more wins and he matches his own record. 4 and he resets the book forever. What Max did wid the rb19 needs to be watched again and again and again, because it’ll be years. YEARS .Until we begin to learn how to truly appreciate it. This is just my humble attempt.
In Abu Dhabi, the job was done wid a series of incredible defensive moves that completely shut the door on sharl. No flashy overtakes, no heroics on the inside line. Just strong classic defending. Sharls attack was dealt wid, nullified, the gap was built, set and managed, and Max saw the fireworks 17 seconds earlier than the rest. In 2023, Max was untouchable by all but one. The car he called ‘rocky’. The only car, to this day, according to the man himself, that ever saw him smile before he crossed the finish line. That ever made him happy before it made him a winner.

2016: upgrade for one, toxic title battle for the other
click here to return to the master post :).
May 15th, 2016. Max is promoted from Toro Rosso to Red Bull’s primary team. Soon, he would become the youngest driver to win a Grand Prix ever due to Lewis’ incident with Nico. Thus, Max finally gets a chance to chase Lewis, who has his most arduous title fight since 2008.
Tumblr media
Max Verstappen sits beside Daniel Kyvat, whom has been demoted to Toro Rosso. Lewis Hamilton looks onward.
This was a massive day for Max, yet there is no evidence of Lewis congratulating him. Perhaps he was too pissed off after his incident. Yet one can infer, as the season progresses, that Lewis' opinion of the rookie ameliorates.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
July 1-3rd, 2016. The Austrian GP takes place. Lewis wins with Max in P2.
Tumblr media
Max and Lewis celebrate together.
Tumblr media
Max and Lewis seem rather fatigued next to a flippant Kimi.
For some, it is arguable that 2016 became the year in which Max finally appeared on Lewis' radar; he was not just some kid anymore. And the next race is excellent proof.
July 4th, 2016. This is a relevant moment in terms of media, since Max says a lot about Lewis:

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
July 10th, 2016. It is another HAM VER ROS finish in Great Britain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the top right image, Lewis keeps his hand on Max's lower back. Among other important things...
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
July 31st, 2016. The German GP takes place; Lewis wins while Max, yet again, is second. Is this their destiny now?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lewis and Max look extremely jovial as they stand side by side; Lewis keeps an arm around Max's neck while Max places his hand on his lower back.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
August 28th, 2016. The Belgian GP takes place.
Tumblr media
Max and Lewis sit next to one another in the press conference (crumb!!!)
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
September 2nd - 4th, 2016. During the Italian GP weekend, Lewis defends Max:
Tumblr media
"Give the guy a break, he is 18 years old. What the heck were any of us doing at 18?” Lewis added.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
October 2nd, 2016. The Malaysian GP gives us another crumb.
Tumblr media
Max and Lewis seem closer than Lewis is to Nico due to heightened tensions.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
October 9th, 2016. The Japanese GP takes place in which Max places P2, ahead of Lewis.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Max is captured turning into the corner ahead of the three-time world champion.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
October 30th, 2016. The Mexican GP gives us a crumb.
Tumblr media
Lewis looks proud next to a smiley Max.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
November 13th, 2016. The Brazilian GP takes place. Lewis decreases his gap to Nico while Max is third.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lewis and Max are having a fantastic time on the podium together.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ─────────
November 27th, 2016. The season ends in Abu Dhabi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lewis and Max are getting along pretty well, considering Lewis told him he would learn on his own last year.
Overall, 2016 seems to be the beginning of 3344's friendly rivalry as Max breaks the record for most overtakes in the season [for the time] with 78 while Lewis loses against Nico. Max is moving up while Lewis can only hope he maintains his elite position. What will 2017 entail?

╰┈➤ ❝ PERSONALITY !
MBTI TYPE. ENTP
MORAL ALIGNMENT. neutral good
Ruda's first impression is reserved but friendly. She is an introverted extrovert, and although she is quite shy and less talkative than most extroverts, being around people energizes her and she enjoys meeting new people and likes to initiate conversations in social situations.
Ruda is and has always been very sensitive to her emotions. She has a tendency to worry and overthink in stressful situations, and although she rarely expresses her worries out loud, her emotions are written all over her face. She will only admit her worries to someone she trusts and is close to. She cries easily and is prone to feeling sad/upset, but almost never gets angry.
Ruda’s need for attention developed early in life as a result of not getting enough attention at home. She requires support, validation, and affection, and is a highly affectionate person herself. She expresses affection through physical touch; she often hugs, holds hands, and touches people she is close to. She also shows affection through small actions/gifts, for example, she often buys drinks for the group after a long dance practice, ties their shoelaces, fixes them up, etc. She is very caring, especially towards the people she is close to, however she is more drawn to people who don’t need to rely on others.
Ruda is very curious and imaginative. She first discovered her artistic side in elementary school. She is drawn to art and other creative people; she has the desire to know people's stories and what makes them who they are. She often talks about different ideas (even if it means not realizing them), daydreams, and thinks about the 'what ifs'.
Ruda's biggest flaw is her insecurities. She believes she is never good enough and has a tendency to compare herself to other people. This was the most visible during her training years; she was driven not only by her ambition and determination to debut, but also because she always thinks she isn’t good enough. Even after debut, she often takes extra time to practice and attends extra classes to get better. The same thing applies to her appearance. Because of this, she takes criticism way too seriously and might blame herself when bad things happen, especially at low points in life. However, her insecurities make her extremely hardworking and ambitious.
Her other flaws include indecisiveness and short attention span. She has a difficulty paying attention to a task if something more interesting is present. Because of her indecisiveness, she sometimes makes risky decisions and is willing to take those risks, even if they may change her life or career.
As an idol, Ruda’s personality and appearance present a sweet, warm, and friendly, but also slightly shy girl-next-door image. She gives girlfriend energy and is especially known for her love for fans. She’s always eager to interact with fans in all ways possible and makes sure the fans feel seen by her; it’s common for her to remember fans, accept gifts and letters, and stop by for an autograph if a fan bumps into her on a street. Fans also often mention how hardworking she is. They respect Ruda for always wanting to improve and acknowledge her dedication.
One of Ruda's biggest strengths as an idol is public speaking. Despite her shyness, she is quite charismatic and very well-spoken on camera. She easily handles interviews and speeches and manages to give satisfying responses even in difficult situations. When it comes to variety shows, she is perfect for talk shows.
Her personality blends well with all NCT WISH members (some fans say she is a mix of all members), so she can easily get along with the whole group. Because she is the oldest, many members depend on her during tough times or "first times" and rely on her previous experience in NCT. Also, because of her caring nature, she is often called the mom of the group.
Ruda’s personality also manifests in her performances—Ruda is quite versatile on stage. She fits bright and slightly cute concepts best, but can adjust energy based on the stage. Most of her performances are marked by her signature wide smile that usually appears after she sings her line, a second before a camera moves to someone else. Although she excels in bright concepts, many fans love when she performs dark concepts—she's less skilled in those, but she exudes a tough and sultry-like energy that otherwise can't be seen.
Ruda’s biggest charm is her mix of her genuine ambition and her shy but friendly personality. She is viewed as a sweet, sincere, and even slightly innocent person.
PERSONALITY TRAITS. adaptable, adventurous, affectionate, ambitious, caring, curious, empathetic, hardworking, imaginative, indecisive, insecure, perfectionist, self-critical, sensitive, shy, sociable, supportive
STRENGTHS. makes people feel loved, values meaningful relationships, handles change easily, always works on improving and getting better, sincere about people and her interests
WEAKNESSES. overthinks and worries too much, takes criticism too seriously, struggles with open communication, bottles up her emotions, has people-pleasing tendencies
HABITS. folding hands in her lap, standing with hands placed on her hips, playing with her hands when nervous, listening in on others' conversations, smiling, spacing out, speaking softly, suppressing laughter, clicking pens, not putting things back in place
FEARS. being forgotten, needles
LOVE LANGUAGE (GIVING). quality time > physical touch > acts of service = gift giving > words of affirmation
LOVE LANGUAGE (RECEIVING). quality time > words of affirmation > physical touch > acts of service = gift giving
ATTACHMENT STYLE. anxious-preoccupied
HOBBIES. collecting photocards, shopping, skincare, watching k-dramas
LIKES. cats, conversations, cows, feeling like she belongs, hugs, iced americano, karaokes, meeting people, playing checkers, ramen, sweet flavors, theatres, white clothes
DISLIKES. bugs, cucumbers, drawing, having nothing to do, rain, rivalry, working out

╰┈➤ ❝ HISTORY !
Ogawa Ruda (Japanese: おがわるだ) was born in March 16, 2001 in Kochi, Japan. She is the first child of bakery owner Ogawa Chiyo and office worker Ogawa Masahiro. She has a sister named Kei born in 2006.
Ruda's childhood was deeply affected by her sister's illness; Kei was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer at age 2. Ruda's parents suddenly shifted all their attention to Kei without any explanation. They began to treat Ruda more like Kei's babysitter and less like their daughter. Ruda stated she felt abandoned, neglected, and unloved as a child. She felt uncomfortable at home and often refused to come home after school. In 2011, Kei beat cancer, but their parents’ different attitude towards the sisters stayed the same.
In elementary school, Ruda's music teacher recognized her singing talent and recommended her to join a music school club. She learned to sing and play piano there and was a part of the school choir. She did the same in middle school.
Ruda's middle school friends were fans of K-pop and eventually Ruda became interested too. She recalled admiring groups like KARA and Girls' Generation. In the last year of middle school, Ruda and her friends decided to try auditioning for different K-pop companies. In March 2016, their graduation month, they attended the 2016 SM Global Audition in Osaka. Ruda was the only one who passed. Despite the initial fights and disagreements with her parents, Ruda moved to South Korea and joined SM Entertainment in June 2016.
Ruda mentioned she struggled to showcase her vocal skills because she couldn't speak Korean. She trained with NCT members Yuming, Ika, Chei, and Sona, aespa members Karina, Winter, and Ningning, and Hearts2Hearts members Jiwoo and Yuha. She was also considered to debut in aespa, but was replaced by Giselle.
Ruda was introduced as a new NCT member on September 23, 2020, during a VLive broadcast held by NCT. She officially debuted as a member of NCT on October 12, 2020, with the release of “NCT RESONANCE Pt.1”.
On May 24, 2023, SM Entertainment released a statement saying Ruda would debut in NCT’s sixth and final unit by participating in a survival show “NCT Universe : LASTART”. The official lineup was revealed during the final episode and the group, tentatively named NCT New Team, released a pre-debut single "Hands Up" on October 8, 2023.
Ruda officially debuted as a vocalist, visual, center, and face of NCT WISH on February 28, 2024 with the release of the group’s first mini album “WISH” and its title track of the same name. She is the most popular member of NCT WISH.

Hey so the Dinosaur Autism has reawakened and I really really want to learn properly about dinosaurs. Is there a good book that's like an intro to the field? (I'm thinking of Stuff Matters, which is a really good intro to my field of materials science. It explains really important concepts in layman's terms, and covers simple things like concrete as well as cool novel materials like aerogel. I think every field should have a Stuff Matters.)
I don't want to just google "how to learn about dinosaurs" or whatever because that will be very overwhelming, so I thought I'd ask for some good starting points
I will always give a strong recommendation to Dinosaurs: How They Lived and Evolved by Darren Naish and Paul Barrett! It's the most up to date and comprehensive popular science book about dinosaurs out there right now, and the writing level is pitched towards the scientifically-interested layperson. It also has a lot of beautiful art by a variety of palaeoartists that portray modern thoughts on dinosaur appearance! There's the original 2016 edition and a revised and updated 2018 second edition, both of which give an excellent overview of dinosaur science although obviously the 2018 edition is a bit more up to date!
Tumblr media
Another one is The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs by Steve Brusatte. I haven't personally read this one, but I have read his subsequent book The Rise and Reign of the Mammals and I was very pleased with the way he introduces scientific concepts the reader may not be familiar with. He provides a great deal of information about the animals themselves, but also talks a lot about the practical science of palaeontology in the field and the lab, which is honestly something that deserves more coverage! So based on my knowledge of his other work and positive reviews I've seen for his dinosaurs volume, I think this one is also well worth a read!

If anyone else has any good recommendations feel free to drop em in the notes!

While the Epic Mickey video game is getting a remastered version (and that's a good thing, because that video game is really underrated), it's a shame that Disney canceled a video game project called Epic Donald for stupid reasons. It would be like Epic Mickey (spin-off to be exact), but Donald would star as the hero who saves Duckburg from various troubles and villains. Donald would be like Indiana Jones, but you should know that Indiana Jones was modeled after the Carl Barks comics and the adventures of Scrooge McDuck, Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey and Louie.
That game would be based on the Carl Barks comics with some references from the OG Ducktales and in addition to Donald, there would be Scrooge McDuck, Donald's nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, Gyro Gearloose, Magica de Spell, Launchpad McQuack, Beagle Boys, Gladstone Gander and other characters (with appearances by Goofy and Mickey). And these are some of the concepts for this game which was specially left by one of the last current American writers and artists for Donald Duck comics Patrick Pat Block. This idea was put forth by Warren Spector himself. And you can learn more about it from this video clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50doEJYcwv8
Articles related to this: https://www.thegamer.com/epic-donald-epic-mickey/ https://mynintendonews.com/2016/08/19/concept-art-from-cancelled-epic-donald-game-surfaces/
And thanks to gaming historian Liam Robertson for the excellent video clip analysis.
It was also planned to realize the video game Epic Mickey Racers in which famous Disney heroes would race, and one of them would be Scrooge McDuck who would ride a motorcycle together with Donald's nephews. This sounds familiar, doesn't it?
It's a great shame that they canceled this video game (especially after Ducktales Remastered Game), because if they had realized it, they would have realized how much they could do with Donald Duck, his family and friends, and the comic book material, which there is a lot of, and people, through the video game, could be interested. for Carl Barks comics, as well as other comics by other authors, especially in America where interest in Donald Duck comics has declined since the 1980s era. In Europe he would be even more popular because Donald is a much more popular character than Mickey (which is not to say that Mickey doesn't have a role in his comics, especially look at Egmont and the Italian comics) and has a significant role in those comics. I have a feeling that American Disney has a lot of intolerance towards Disney comics, which is unfortunate. Shame on you Disney!
I wish that this idea and this video game could be realized and that Donald could be restored to his old reputation. This is just my opinion.
Feel free to like and reblog this if you support this!

Really glad this car is 2014, because I'll be real, after the Annoying Orange slashed regulations everywhere during his first term, I straight don't trust most things made after 2016 (here in the states).
And I'll show you why.
Tumblr media
This is the graph I told you guys I was making. I've technically got another year of mitigation cases to catalogue, but the sample size is currently just under 600 cases handled between 2019 to 2023.
On the top graph, each bar corresponds to the year the building was built. So there have been 23 cases where the house was built in 1990, for example.
The bottom graph is the age of the house. So we've had 17 cases where the house was 17 years old.
Weird how we suddenly start getting a spike of cases for homes built about 2017, huh?
Please note that this graph also ONLY corresponds to a certain section of western washington. This isn't a nation-wide graph or sample size, and also hasn't been filtered out for a few cases due to human accidents and unforeseen disasters (such as the king tides that flood every so often) that I wanted to include for scientific integrity (and haven't learned how to filter out in excel yet without outright deleting them). But those amount to about 15-20 cases (3% of the total cases) and likely would not skew the data greatly.
There's still work to go and cleaning up to do for this graph but. Hm.
I just think it's interesting.

Despite being still fairly feral at thirteen years strong, my boy Casper the orange tabby floof displays multiple traits of domestication: bold white markings, long exquisitely soft hair, and an orange coat which would only ever rarely ever occur in the wild. Also, allergies.
There Was Another Domestic Cat!
I hate that I'm only now in 2024 learning about this rad 2016 cat science find (frustrating that it wasn't more publicized,); there's evidence in China that there was once a second species of domestic cat, Prionailurus bengalensis, or the Asian Leopard Cat. Fellow cat nerds will recognize that this is the same wild species that was hybridized with the domestic cat to produce the famously active and beautiful breed known as the bengal cat, however these ancient domestic cats evidenced in the study share no relation to the modern bengal. Modern domestic cats notably descend from the African wildcat (Felis silvestris lybica.)
The evidence of the domesticated version of the Asian Leopard cat is primarily wear patterns on teeth still connected to jaw bones found in China which do not show up in fully wild kitties. This basically means that these domestic cats were eating a diet which their wild brethren do not consume.
To me, the idea of a second ancient species of domestic cat is extremely intriguing and I will most definitely need to draw a concept if what these cats would have looked like with the calling card bold white markings and other domestic traits which inevitably appear in domesticated animals, as shown in the Russian Silver Fox Project which eventually produced completely domesticated foxes. It would also be very interesting scientifically to see the full ancient domestication of the Asian Leopard Cat reproduced although with thousands of modern domestic kitties in need of homes this experiment is likely never going to happen (which is for the better with so many far more suitable modern purr machines available for adoption.)
Domestication of modern domestic cats (Felis silvestris catus/Felis catus) likely took place on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus some 10,800 years ago with the cats quickly spreading to Egypt and China where they became beloved fixtures of temples, homes and palaces. Today thanks to artificial selection these kitties exist in miriad beautiful breeds and coat patterns but more importantly, modern kitties are noble, affectionate, and extremely social companions of the educated, responsible human household.

My three year old blue tuxedo cat Keplar, who spends his days playing, following me around everywhere that he can (getting very frustrated when he cannot,) chatting with me, and snuggling with his thirteen year old unrelated fluffy orange tabby brother, Casper. With a dilute gene turningwhat would've been a melanistic coat grey and bold white markings which are found only in domesticated animals, Keplar is an excellent representative of the modern domestic cat.
