Do you have any tips or tutorial recommendations for making your own website?
I actually really do like the Wordpress client now I've gotten the hang of it!
I did tell 1000 of my subscribers to kill themselves in an email header by accident, and also battered those poor 1000 people with something like 100 emails in increasingly frantically apologised for errors over the course of the same three days, but that was before I really Got it.
With the above oopsies in mind, if you want to import previous newsletters or posts, for the love of God, do not import your existing newsletter subscribers until after all of your backposts have been imported across. That is the main lesson I have learned.
I had such a vision in mind of a triumphant surprise email going "Hey, look what I did! Surprise! Isn't it sexy?!" and instead everyone got 30 notifications about chapter updates from 2 years ago and an email that said "It's Your Responsibility to Kill Yourself" followed by multiple deranged apologies from me.
So. Don't do that.
Other than that, I'd actually wanted a proper website for quite a few years even before Patreon got so antsy with hiding my content - I tried to set one up a few years back with Wix, and I cannot recommend that less, it's a fucking awful site to use, and it's far less user intuitive than Wordpress.
Part of my issues with Wordpress were actually that a lot of website clients, unless you're building from scratch in HTML/CSS or another code, give you everything in Blocks, and because I remembered like 10 years ago where you didn't have to do that, and you mostly altered everything on the website with like, 10000 options tickboxes and sliders, I was like "wow this is awful". I will admit now, crotchety bastard that I am, that the Blocks system is better and more intuitive once you start to understand it. I just don't always do well thinking of things in three dimensions, so to speak, and I was shooting myself in the foot by going "WELL BACK IN MY DAY--"
Wix doesn't have a very good help section because they want you to talk to their people for help, but most sites for stuff like this do have really robust FAQ and help sections, and obviously, rely on those as much as possible.
At one point I was so upset with my inability to do something that Lorenzo literally came over and told me to leave the apartment (that was the day that I went to Pets at Home and spent a ridiculous amount of money on gifts for the cat), and while I was very grumpy about doing it at the time, taking breaks is crucial, especially if you get as frustrated as I do.
I realise that most of what I have said so far is niche tips for if you're stubborn and mentally ill, so in terms of actual website building, I would say it's important to have an idea of what you want the site to do.
Do you just want a landing page, so that if people search for your name or whatever, that this is the first result? That it links people to your books or your store, your socials? Do you want to have a gallery of work on display, or an archive of writing like I've made? Do you want people to be able to contact you, give tips?
I always wanted a robustly tagged archive with an in-depth tag page like the one I've set up now, and the goal for my Directory of Work on Medium and elsewhere was always that it would later be transferred to my website once it was built.
Then, I have an about page for people who are just curious about who I am and who I look like; commission info and information about booking me for events or inviting me to cons and such; the books I have for sale, publications I've been a part of, interviews and presentations on YouTube; my events calendar with conventions and such; the gallery where I'm showing off both art of my characters and where I'll later show art that I buy for my home and myself, such as the stuff framed in the stairwell or jewellery I buy from makers at markets and such; and then, of course, the subscriber benefits.
All of the above to go my goals which are, in order, to encourage people to read my work and make it easy for them to do so, to pay me money for my existing work or to offer me money for new work, and to show support for other events, artists, friends, and queer creators.
I would definitely advise thinking carefully about how visual or how word-based you want your site to be - I had to look for a recipe blog theme to find one that was stripped back in terms of images. Especially for adult websites, I'd be careful about payment providers and so forth.
Stripe is the default on the site, and I've been very careful about making sure none of my titles or descriptions that the Stripe client will see have words like erotica or adult in them - if someone from Stripe clicks through and sees the site, they might take issue with it, but that's another thing. I do get paid by Stripe through Medium, so I do already use them.
Most payment providers hate any kind of adult content, but are willing to give a tiny bit more wiggle room on erotica, or at least, they just don't notice it in the same way they do Real Porn, but there's nothing I can say other than "be careful and more importantly, be lucky" on that front.
Most of all, I'd say to try to have fun with it and try to enjoy the actual building process if you can - make something pretty and fun to navigate as much as you can, and if you can get some enjoyment out of it, your site users will as well.

Hi....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
Thank you for the ask, I don't mind a bit! Though I will say that this particular question sent me into a minor existential crisis, because how on earth could I ever pick just 10 things that I love across all media. I don't know if y'all have picked this up about me yet, but I consume vast amounts of media, like...unbelievable amounts of media, it is my great joy in life. I consulted @bengiyo about how to approach this question, and he suggested a frame to help narrow it down: what are my favorites that someone else recommended to me, that I then felt compelled to recommend to others? Hope you don't mind the tweak! As always, keeping this in the realm of Asian media for this blog, here is what I got:
What Did You Eat Yesterday?
Tumblr media
When I met @bengiyo and @waitmyturtles I learned very quickly that this was their all-time favorite, and if I didn't like it we were gonna have a problem (jk but not really). I hadn't watched it on my own because until recently (shoutout to our savior Gagaoolala) it was quite inaccessible and I hadn't yet stumbled onto @isaksbestpillow and found her amazing subs. Luckily, I have impeccable taste and WDYEY is in fact a masterpiece, so they watched me watch it, I lost my mind over how unique and brilliant and technically flawless it was, and we are now all bonded for life over our love for this show, which just returned for a second season and will hopefully continue forever. I love it so much I have even started reading the manga, and I am not a manga girlie by nature (I prefer reading prose), so you can be assured I absolutely will not be shutting up about it anytime soon.
Go Ahead
Tumblr media
Credit for this one goes to @ginnymoonbeam for watching it first and then sending up a flare for me as a fellow cdrama enjoyer that this one was worth prioritizing immediately. I love big sprawling family stories that unfold over time, I love digging into intergenerational family trauma, I love good dad characters, I love found family dynamics, and I love a well done romance subplot embedded in a much bigger story, so this show hit so many of my sweet spots. It's #1 on my list of modern cdramas and I would recommend it to anyone.
Mo Dao Zu Shi/The Untamed
Tumblr media
Speaking of cdramas, I must give a shoutout to @dangermousie who wrote this post summarizing their favorite danmei novels, which I found when I went looking for recommendations and was trying to figure out a way into this segment of Asian media. I admit I am a bit bougie about my reading material and modality, so I really can't deal with machine translations or reading on html pages, and thus I still have not read some of these as I am patiently waiting for official English translations to become available (me and 2HA are gonna have a party in 2024 I tell you what). I had already heard of The Untamed, of course, because I am a human person who lurks in online spaces, but reading the novel got me significantly more interested, and I quickly fell down a months long rabbit hole that included consuming the novel, the show, and copious amounts of fanfiction. This story is so complex and layered and full of fun mysteries and meaty moral quandaries and interesting family relationships and has an A+ second chance romance and one of my all time favorite characters to boot; it really took over my brain for a minute. And while it hardly needs me to recommend it given how popular it already is, I'm still gonna do it whenever I get the chance.
Mo Du/Silent Reading
Tumblr media
And while we're on the subject of danmei, let me give a shoutout to my favorite modern danmei novel, which was recommended to me by an IRL friend who is not on tumblr. Mo Du is a sprawling mystery novel that spans five major interconnected cases, and it centers on an exceedingly competent police captain, Luo Wenzhou, and a young business heir/super genius, Fei Du, who start out with an adversarial relationship (but I bet you can guess what happens next!). The crime stories in this are almost shockingly intricate and every detail comes together in the end without a single loose end, which is impressive enough on its own, but somehow the author (Priest, who some of you will know as the writer of Faraway Wanderers aka Word of Honor) manages to also write a perfectly paced, incredibly compelling love story between the two leads that is layered with complex trauma and psychological hot buttons and secrets and lies that unfold organically alongside the mystery. I am in the middle of re-reading it right now and my love for it only grows stronger. The gif above is from a recent attempt to adapt this into a live-action drama that got quickly canceled, but honestly, the less said about that, the better (though Zhang Xin Cheng will absolutely remain the Fei Du of my heart). With China's censorship laws, there will be no faithful live action version of this story, so I highly recommend reading the novel.
Pachinko
Tumblr media
While we're on the subject of novels, I must mention another IRL friend recommendation: Pachinko. This one is a sprawling multi-generational family historical fiction epic that tracks the lives of a Korean family that is forced to migrate to Japan during Japanese occupation in the early 20th Century. Y'all, this book is amazing, and it has now been turned into a television show airing on Hulu that is also quite good (though structured quite differently, but that's another post). I learned a ton of real history in the course of reading this, and I found the journey of Sunja and her family so compelling. The book has a real intersectional lens and digs deep into themes of oppression, racism, class disparity, and sexism, and is rooted in Korean values around filial piety, respect for hard work, religion, moral condemnation, and of course, the importance of food to communicate.
The Great Indian Kitchen
youtube
Switching gears, let me give a shoutout to this Indian film that my bestie @neuroticbookworm recently recommended to me and @waitmyturtles. This film is about a modern young woman who enters an arranged marriage with a family of high status (though maybe not of the kind you think) and explores her experience of oppression as a woman in a very patriarchal religious setting. The story is really compelling, I learned about a common experience for women in India, the narrative ended in an unexpected place (in a good way), and I really enjoyed the watch. And this film is on YouTube with good subs which I linked above, so it's quite accessible.
Be Melodramatic
Tumblr media
Let's get back to dramas, shall we? I credit this one to @kdramaxoxo, who recommends Be Melodramatic constantly, and thank goodness because otherwise this under appreciated gem would have never landed on my radar. This is a beautiful story about a group of friends who move in together in the wake of personal tragedy and tracks their progress as they heal and move on from their hardships. The themes of grief and growth and change are quite poignant, the relationships, both platonic and romantic, are all very compelling, and the music is beautiful. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for (@nieves-de-sugui this is definitely a good one to add to your list).
Make it Right
Tumblr media
Time for @bengiyo to get another shoutout. This is a Thai bl classic that doesn't get the love it deserves, and he is its number one promoter. I don't know when I would have gotten around to watching this if he hadn't recommended it so highly, and I'm so glad I did. I wrote about this one, why I loved it, and why I think it's under appreciated, and I highly encourage others to give it a try.
Coffee Prince
Tumblr media
We will end on an OG kdrama classic, which I watched early on in my kdrama journey thanks to a recommendation from an IRL friend who said it was the best version of the well worn Asian drama genderbend trope that they had ever seen, and my god were they right. Not only was this my first Gong Yoo drama (a life changing experience in and of itself) but this one really took me by surprise for how sharp and progressive it was about gender fluidity, sexual identity, and the struggle toward self-acceptance way back when it aired in 2007. I recommend this one to everyone, and its a great entry point for people who prefer queer media and have (justified) suspicion of mainstream kdrama's treatment of queer narratives.

I haven't posted much for a while but I've actually been doing a lot so here's an update! First, I've been learning html and a little javascript so I can build a website from scratch on Neocities. It's a pretty cool place and filled with tons of passionate people all doing the same as me, trying to create their own fun corner of the web.
The site's still as a whole a work in progress but there's some fun stuff to look at. Link to my website if you want to check it out. Second, I've also been learning how to code in the game engine Godot! I want to make fun free web games with it, and I've made a lot of progress on one so far. The hang up on it is actually the art and not the code because I am drawing all the frames for these fish swimming by hand. It's a simple game where you're a small fish trying not to get injured or eaten by the bigger fish around you.
Sneak peak of how it's looking so far, the rudderfish (the white and brown striped fish to the left), has placeholder art and will have its final look with shading later on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also here's the swim cycle for the big fish (Goliath Grouper). It's technically done but specifically the spines on the top don't move with the body on the one frame where the fish turns its head towards the viewer, so I will attempt to fix that at some point. But other than that I like the goofy fella's lil animation.
I don't know when I will have the game done, because I have way too many projects I'm working on all the time, but it will get done eventually!

Review: The Crow (1994)
A remake of The Crow just came out last weekend. I heard it sucked, so I decided to go back and watch the original instead.
The Crow (1994)
Rated R for a great amount of strong violence and language, and for drug use and some sexuality
Tumblr media
<Originally posted at https://kevinsreviewcatalogue.blogspot.com/2024/08/review-crow-1994.html>
Score: 4 out of 5
Stop me if you've heard this one: exactly one year after they did something horrible, a group of hoodlums are stalked and murdered by a ruthless, seemingly supernatural killer who happens to look a lot like the man whose death they were responsible for. It's a setup for a slasher movie in the vein of Prom Night or I Know What You Did Last Summer, a mood that this film definitely tilts towards in how it frames its killer, but make no mistake: The Crow is not a slasher movie, and the killer is not a villain. Rather, Eric Draven is framed as a gothic superhero, somebody who makes Batman look like Superman, a fact that, together with its stunning style, an outstanding performance from Brandon Lee that would've made him a star under better circumstances, and the real-life on-set tragedy that made its production notorious, has made this film an enduring classic among generations of goth kids, horror fans, and superhero fans. It's a movie that's pure style over substance, but one where that style is so much fun to watch, and the substance just enough to hold it up, that I barely noticed the thinly-written supporting cast or the many moments where it was clear that they were working around Lee's death trying to get the film in a releasable state. Thirty years later, The Crow is a film that's simultaneously of its time but also timeless, and simply a rock-solid action thriller on top of it.
Set in Detroit, where the weak are killed and eaten (the film barely mentions the setting, but the comic it's based on makes it explicit), the film starts on Devil's Night where a young couple, the musician Eric Draven and his fiancé Shelly Webster, are brutally murdered in their apartment by a gang of criminals, who we later learn targeted them because Shelly was involved in community activism to prevent evictions in a neighborhood controlled by the ruthless crime lord Top Dollar. However, according to legend, the souls of the dead are taken to the afterlife by a crow, and if somebody died in an especially tragic way that they didn't deserve, then that crow can resurrect them to give them a chance to set things right. This is what happens to Eric exactly one year later, causing him to set out to take his revenge on his and Shelly's killers and protect those who they continue to menace.
A huge component of this film's mystique to this day revolves around Brandon Lee, and how it was intended as his big star vehicle that likely would've been his ticket to the A-list if not the fact that, thanks to its chaotic production and the crew's lackadaisical attitude towards safety, he wound up suffering a fatal accident on set with a prop gun that turned out to have not been as safe as the crew thought it was. (Chad Stahelski, who went on to direct the John Wick movies, was one of Lee's stunt doubles here, and now you know why production on the John Wick movies never uses real guns on set.) The tragedy alone would've given Lee an aura comparable to River Phoenix (who was also considered for the part), Heath Ledger, Paul Walker, or Chadwick Boseman, especially given how his father, martial arts legend Bruce Lee, also died young, but the truth is, watching him as Eric Draven, this really was the kind of star-in-the-making performance that makes you mourn the lost potential almost as much as the man himself. Lee walks a fine line here between playing an unstoppable killer who's framed as almost a horror monster on one hand and still making him sympathetic, charismatic, and attractive on the other, the result feeling like a man with a hole in his heart fueled by rage at what he lost who seems to be straight-up enjoying his revenge at times, especially with some of his one-liners. Had he lived, I could easily imagine Lee having had the career as an action hero that Keanu Reeves ultimately did, such was the strength of his performance in this one film. He kicks as much ass as you'd expect, especially given that he also handled much of the fight choreography and took every opportunity in the action scenes to show off how he was very much Bruce Lee's son, but he also brings a strange warmth to the character such that I didn't just wanna see him kick ass and take names, I wanted to see him win.
That strange warmth is ultimately the film's secret weapon. Its dark aesthetics and tone and grisly violence go hand-in-hand with a story about loving life, because this is the one life we have to live and it could easily be taken away from us. Gothic it may be, but nihilistic it is not. Eric may look like a horror movie monster, but he is still a hero, a man who goes out of his way to help and protect the innocent and redirect those who are on the wrong path just as he goes after the unrepentant bastards who bring misery to the community. He felt more like a proper superhero than a lot of examples from movies in the last ten years, which seem more interested in the "super" part of the equation and the awesome fight scenes it enables than the "hero" part. There's a reason the tagline on the poster is "Believe in Angels," and not "Vengeance is Coming" or something along those lines. At its core, this is a movie about getting a second chance to set things right, one in which the things that have to be set right just so happen to involve a lot of righteous violence, and by the time the credits rolled, I felt oddly uplifted having seen it. Not exactly the feeling you expect to have when you watch a film with this one's reputation!
The villains here are mostly one-note caricatures, working largely in the context of the film as a whole and because of the actors playing them. Top Dollar is a cartoonish, if charismatic, madman who wants to burn down the city just for the hell of it, his half-sister/incestuous lover Myca is a sadistic vamp who cuts out women's eyes, and his assorted goons all constantly behave in ghoulish ways so that you don't feel bad when Eric kills them. Ernie Hudson's character, the police officer Albrecht, exists largely to serve as a stand-in for the audience learning who and what Eric is. They work less as characters than as part of the fabric of the world that this movie builds, a version of Detroit that resembles a mix of Gotham City out of Tim Burton's Batman and something close to a post-apocalyptic wasteland. It's a city where the streets are winding, decrepit, shrouded in darkness, and all too often devoid of people, as though everybody moved out to the suburbs a long time ago, with the only centers of activity being nightclubs, bars, and pawn shops that are all run by gangsters. Between this and Dark City, it definitely feels like director Alex Proyas has a thing for this style of urban noir setting taken all the way into the realm of the utterly fantastical, and he makes the city feel... well, "alive" isn't the right word given that it's depicted as a place that's falling to pieces, but definitely a character in its own right. He does a lot to build this film's mood, staging much of it like a horror movie whether it's in the scenes of Eric stalking his prey or the action scenes where an unstoppable supernatural killer shrugs off everything that gets thrown at him like Jason Voorhees, and it works wonders in making for a very unique take on the superhero genre, especially thirty years later when the genre has come to be associated with blockbuster action. The soundtrack, too, does wonders to set the mood, loaded with '80s goth rock and '90s alternative that pairs well with Eric Draven's backstory as a rock star (especially when paired with the scenes of him playing guitar on the roof in the dead of night) and which I imagine turned a lot of young Gen-Xers into fans of The Cure. That kind of music might be a cliché today, but there's a reason it endures.
The Bottom Line
Skip the remake and check out the original, which remains a classic for a reason. It's not a perfect film, but it's one that still holds up to this day as not just a monument to a man who died too soon but also as a very well-made action/horror flick that I'm surprised more superhero movies since haven't tried to imitate.

⭐ for the writer's cut ask game because i have no idea what fics you have written as of right now
Hello! I'll talk a bit about my Grian choose your own adventure story (CYOA) that to me marks the beginning of my true consistent writing in fandom. I started the fic a full two months before I published it, but the very first thing I did for that fic was make the decision tree out on paper before even opening the google doc. The first night I planned out a very rough idea of ~30 endings, and I was quite proud that I followed through and made over 30 endings. The reason I chose Grian to follow for this is two-fold: Grian was my first hermit I began watching and the one I'd watched the longest, but also Grian works the best as a character when you combine him with other people. The first part of the story I wrote was actually the starting page, followed by the 'go-to-sleep' ending and then the fishing route, (ending 2 was the next one I wrote, which is still one of my favorites that I wrote)
One of the hardest parts of writing it was actually figuring out How to incorporate the viewer properly in the fic. A good chunk of CYOA stories have 1st or 2nd POV's which I am allergic to writing with fanfic, so it was a fun balance figuring out how to frame the decisions but not have the reader 'be' Grian in the story. By using the idea of a Chat talking to Grian, I was able to kinda subvert choices occasionally, having Grian straight up fight with chat at different points throughout the story, but again it was all about balancing that which was difficult. I think for future CYOAs I write I would probably drop the chat thing and just write present tense 3rd POV instead, but I'm glad I made the chat thing work for this particular story. I can not picture a CYOA using the inside of Grian's head (like having multiple different pathways at once) specifically, cause he gives me "I have this idea and I think it's good, lets go with it and modify it as needed" vibes.
Coding the fic was a 5 hour experience. I had almost NO coding experience prior to this: (I had done some unrelated stuff of like google code, and was comfortable googling how to do things.) I felt so successful when I finished that I wanted to encourage other people to try using HTML in their fics. [I eventually put together my Ao3 HTML coding masterpost as my way of doing that].
Titling this fic was also VERY hard. I actually talked with both my parents and my sibling for title ideas and eventually ended up with Prognosis: Chat's Chew Toy. For a long time the working title was "POV: you observe a mischief-maker: A Choose your own Adventure" but other notable suggestions include: "POV Grian Unleashed" "Grian's begrudging vlog day" and "Grian's totally normal afternoon."
I had so much fun making a CYOA book that I am considering making another one (it's one of my bingo board fic goals for 2025 and I have an idea for it).
One more bonus fact: I very nearly put the entirety of the lyrics of Hermit Gang in the White Void section, but I hadn't learned how to make invisible text at that point and it didn't really make the most sense. I have since learned how to code appearing text.

after a long few days of bugfixing i think that animal's den 3.0 is finally stable enough, along with a new domain name (http://chimera.pet) and landing page. this update includes:
(mostly) incorporated responsiveness on pages that i'm currently able to update (DID makes this complicated, so some older pages are untouched and buggy, but should warn you ahead of time)
reworked navigation to shy away from iframe-based sidebar
implemented netfriend's html loader as a temporary solution to make my life easier in terms of website layout (though this will change as i aim to eventually learn and incorporate a ssg, primarily 11ty), and other JS-based solutions to daily updates
iframe-based pages now include melonking's frame-link system, enabling specific pages to be linked out (i.e specific journal entries or pokemon pages)
if you've viewed my site before, make sure to press ctrl + shift + r (or whatever hard refreshes your browser) to clear your cached version of my site if things appear broken. feel free to send any bugs you may find on other pages to my askbox or email on the site's footer!

My Recommended Pathway to Learning Code
Why Learn to Code?
Unleash Creativity: Coding is like painting with words. You get to create digital masterpieces, bring ideas to life, and build things you've always imagined.
Problem-Solving Superpower: Ever felt the satisfaction of solving a puzzle? Coding is a series of problem-solving adventures where you're the hero armed with logic and creativity.
Endless Possibilities: From websites to apps, games, and beyond, coding opens doors to endless possibilities. Imagine the impact you can make in the digital realm!
Where to Begin?
Starting your coding journey can be overwhelming, and I don't blame you for thinking so. Begin with these beginner-friendly languages:
HTML/CSS: The dynamic duo for web development. HTML structures content, while CSS styles it. Perfect for creating your first website. Think of HTML as the structure for a building. The frame, if you will. CSS will be the decor of it all.
JavaScript: The language of the web. It adds interactivity to your sites, making them dynamic and engaging.
Python: A versatile language, loved for its readability. Great for beginners and used in various fields, from web development to data science.
The Importance of Learning Foundations:
Think of coding as building a house. You wouldn't start with the roof, right? Learning foundational languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is like laying a strong foundation. Here's why it matters:
Understanding the Basics: Foundations teach you the core concepts of programming, helping you understand how code works.
Transferable Skills: The skills you gain are transferable to other languages. Once you grasp the logic, moving on becomes a smoother journey. You can't read a book if you don't know the alphabet.
Confidence Booster: Starting with the basics builds confidence. It's like leveling up in a game – you become more adept and ready for the next challenge.
Problem-Solving Mindset: Foundations instill a problem-solving mindset. As you conquer challenges, you develop a resilient approach to coding conundrums.
Starting up:
I highly recommend using what you have on hand. Notepad on Windows works great but if you'd like something more code based try out:
Notepad++
Sublime
Visual Code Studio
Coffee Cup
Atom (This has been sunset though, so use at your own risk)
Any questions? Please feel free to message me! I might take 24 hours to respond, but I will get back to you!

Monthly Update (September 2024)
Hello everyone, happy September!
What did I do this month?
This month, I primarily focused on coding The Perfect Woman. TPW is fairly different from my other games so I had to refactor my code quite a bit for it (including basic systems such as saving and loading). I also tried to polish it quite a bit, so hopefully it feels good to play! I won't go into too much detail, since I don't want to spoil any of the experience, but I incorporated a few fun effects that are hopefully interesting to experience!
Near the end of the month, I considered eliminating the Live2D style animations from my projects. You can read more about my decision here, but essentially I've heard that such animations are polarizing and some people find them uncanny/distracting. Eliminating the animations would also allow me to simplify my art workflow. After receiving some feedback (thank you to everyone who answered my query!) I decided to go ahead with nixing animations from my future projects, but I'll keep them for my past projects. On a positive note, this means that I'll be able to release Android builds for my games again (and possibly Web builds, if Godot ever decides to make C# HTML compatible!)
After making the decision, I spent some time redoing The Perfect Woman's assets (since they were already all animated, haha!) and used it to test out programming my games without animations. I learned how to use spritesheets for facial expression changes to reduce draw calls, and I also learned how to do frame-by-frame animations as well (for blinks and such).
In addition, I completed a few Actala CGs and BGs.
I also started outlining and writing scripts for two new projects! They've yet to be announced (I'll probably announce them once the scripts are complete), but you can find details about them here! I wrote ~30k words across my current writing WIPs, primarily these two projects. I decided on a title for one of them, started sketching concepts, and commissioned a logo.
Plans for next month!
I made a summary of the projects that I currently have in progress, as well as my plans for the rest of the year. You can find it here!
For September, I plan to focus on finishing The Perfect Woman to start with. I plan to release it on September 13th. After that, I've gotta get started working on art assets 😂 so I'll be doing a lot of backgrounds 👍 I'll be traveling during the latter half of the month, so I'll try to do some sketches that I can work on on the road! (And hopefully I'll be able to take some good reference photos!)
Thank you to everyone who's following along, and see you next month!

okay! this took a bit to type out, but here we are!
disclaimer: my way might not work for you and that’s okay! there’s no right or wrong to make gifs, so long as you enjoy the way you make them then that’s all that counts. this is only a detailed look into my own personal process and things i’ve learned along the way. i'm also an idiot who sometimes doesn't know what he's talking about, so if something doesn't make sense let me know so i can fix it!
but these are some of the things i'll be going into a little more detail than before:
tools
importing & converting to smart object
smart filters
coloring (lighting, basic, and gradient)
exporting
tools
there are a few things i use in the process, some new and some old. whether you want to use them is entirely optional, given that it can be a lot to take in at once.
photoshop 2024
if you use an older version of photoshop, then i think the layout is similar to newer versions. though iirc some older versions don’t have the timeline function so you might have to look that up yourself since i’m not familiar with any ps version without it.
handbrake
i only use handbrake if the recorded video is super long. usually i try to record each scenery shot (4-8 seconds at a time) or an entire cutscene so i don’t have to use handbrake to trim the video. if i do, then i have the settings set to export as super hq with 60 fps, deselecting align a/v start and passthru common metadata. the rest i leave alone.
vapoursynth
this is really useful and makes coloring easier imo. you can download it from the official site, but i found a portable version (i have the 200722 one) for windows here. i’m not sure how to set it up for mac users, and, truthfully, to this day i still don’t know how to use it entirely. i just followed a tutorial i i found on youtube and only changed the amount for the denoise filter and turned off the sharpen filter since i do that in photoshop itself. so it’s trial and error, and i’m erroring a lot sometimes ajdkjasvjdas. it’s also where i crop the video to my preferred dimensions, unless you choose to crop in ps.
jsfiddle code playground
if you want to have the text in the tumblr post be a gradient, then type whatever you want in the first box on the bottom right, change the color from red to your starting color of choice, then the same of the green for the ending color. hit run, copy the code, and paste it inside the text post while in html mode. ngl, i stared at the site for like ten minutes before i figured out how to use it asjdjasdasd
nvidia shadowplay
i use shadowplay since it comes with my laptop’s gpu, set to record in 1080p60. i’ve seen other giffers use obs for recording, but i don’t have any experience with it. there are scenepacks and gameplay walkthroughs on many sites, which you can use as long as you have the uploaders permission and credit them as they ask! please don't steal their videos!
reshade
i’ve started using reshade recently to tone out the blue tint of the game and sharpen it up a bit more. it makes a big difference and helps with coloring if you start out with near neutral colors. the effects i use are: • deband • clarity • sharpcontrast • emphasize • amd fidelityfx contrast adaptive sharpening • fxaa • prod_80_04_colorisolation • adaptivetonemapper i'm pretty sure some of these are redundant, but i’m too lazy to go back and see which ones i don’t need lol. but it’s all personally preference with how you want the game to look, and there are many effects to choose from.
importing & converting to smart object:
my preferred method is the video frames to layers, which is: file > import > video frames to layers, and then select the video. if you use vapoursynth, then there might be duplicates frames (or at least there are for me) so when the popup window appears i check the box to limit the frames to how ever many duplicates there are of each frame. usually in my case, it’s three.
after the video has been imported, i select all frames in the timeline and change the frame delay to either 0.03-0.04 depending on how fast or slow i want the gif to be. for converting to smart object, i recorded my own action set to save time by clicking on a couple of buttons, but the process is: select all layers currently > convert frame animation > convert to smart object.
let me know if you want the action set! it saves a lot of time in the process
smart filters
i don't think sharpening before or after coloring matters, but definitely do not sharpen before cropping if you haven't done already.
vapoursynth combined with the in game reshade sharpening effects doesn’t require as much sharpening as i normally use. just note that it varies from scene to scene, and whatever you're giffing. these are just the settings i used for the pirates’ cove set.:
smart sharpen #1: 500% with a radius of 0.2 px
smart sharpen #2: 10% and 10 px radius
gaussian blur: 0.7 px at 30% opacity
add noise: 1% uniform at 30% opacity
Tumblr media
on to the coloring, which i'm breaking this up into three sections: lighting, basic coloring, and gradient coloring, with a brief description and the result after each section.
something to note is that all coloring is personal preference, and how you want your gifs to look. if you're just starting your giffing journey, here's a site i bookmarked that explains pretty well the adjustment layers and what they do if you have questions for how they work. but i'd be more than happy to answer any that you guys have!
lighting:
brightness/contrast:
with this, i’ve found that changing the blending mode to screen brightens it up well enough without having to move any on the sliders. if it’s too bright, then lowering the opacity should do the trick.
curves:
before, i used the white and black point with the eyedropper tool, but now i’ve started using the auto function that can be found in the four horizontal bars in the top right of the adjustment properties. i choose the find dark & light colors options and check the enhance brightness and contrast box. if it’s too bright or tinted too much one color, then i fiddle with the rgb curves individually to get it as neutral as i can.
levels:
with levels there’s not much to adjust other than moving the sliders for the shadows and midtones to give it a little more contrast.
Tumblr media
basic coloring:
selective color #1:
for the first selective color set to absolute, i use it for the white/black colors to make them as white and black as possible. increasing the black can make it too dark, so i limit the increase by two or three. sometimes i change neutral if it needs it, after all the coloring is done if it still looks too much of one color that the other adjustment layers can’t fix. i don’t know exactly what the difference is between absolute and relative is, i just remember it being part of a tutorial i read and have been doing it ever since.
color balance:
i only change this as minimally as possible, usually one for cyan, one for magenta, and one for blue for all tones. sometimes i increase it more, but it all depends on how you want it.
selective color #2:
the last selective color i use it for all the other colors, set to relative, usually for reds, yellows, and blues. if there are people in the gif, then i focus mostly on skin tones, bringing out reds and yellows to make it look as natural as possible. a hue/saturation layer can be useful to even out darker skin tones by lowering the saturation for red or yellow. with scenery, i boost whatever dominate color pops up while lowering the other colors by adding in a lot of white if the lighting is bright, or adding black for dim scenes. again, if it needs it, adding in an optional hue/saturation layer, but this time to lower the saturation for less prominent colors.
Tumblr media
gradient coloring:
if you’re satisfied with the coloring of your gif, then this step can be skipped!
i’ve recently fallen in love with using gradient fills. there are several preset gradients available, but if you search around online there are other gradients available to download and use. or you can make your own gradient of your colors of choice.
for me, i often use blue/pink or blue/purple gradient fills. the blue/pink preset is the one i used in this case.
gradient fill:
after adding the gradient fill and choosing the colors, i change the blending to soft light and lower the opacity anywhere from 30%-50%. with darker skin tones it might be tricky as it would involve more tweaking of the settings until it looks nice.
gradient map:
i follow it up with a gradient map to help with the sharpness (i think? i’ve forgotten exactly) set to soft light again with varying opacity given how dark the scene is.
vibrancy
this is completely optional here, but i like the colors cranked to the max, boosted to 80% or slightly lower. some minor adjustments might have to be made after this, usually with it being too red or possibly yellow.
exposure
the final adjustment layer to top it all off is exposure. i like my gifs to have a matte-ish look, so i change the offset anywhere from +0.0010 to +0.0030. if the gif is still a little on the dark side, increasing the exposure helps.
the gradient coloring takes the longest to get the colors to look good, but i love my colors so much and the end result is so worth it.
Tumblr media
logo:
this is optional of course, but since there's quite a few people out there who love to steal gifs, it's probably a good idea to put your logo on the gif to help deter them. mine's simple and uses either the font code bold or moon. i have it saved as a png so that i can go to file > place embedded and resize it to my liking before moving it to the bottom right corner.
but for me those are too many steps to do for each gif, especially if i’ve been working on them for hours. so i open up an old psd with the same dimensions and duplicate the logo layer for each gif to save time.
exporting:
under file > save for web (legacy) the window for it should pop up. i don't usually mess around too much with the settings here, keeping it at selective diffusion and changing the matte to none.
sometimes the size will be too large for tumblr's limit since i like bright colors, and depending on how many frames are in each gif, most of them end up on the large side. i have to fight photoshop sometimes to make it work by either trimming a few frames or messing slighting with the lighting. occasionally i end up having to go back and reimport the videos to divide the frames equally if i don't want to trim any off. it’s a pain, and it’s something i should honestly try to plan out before that point lmao.
but if you're satisfied with how it looks, save, and you're good to post!

I love how to prove your point you link to an article that explains ANCIENT cultural norms and how the religious frame work of multiple different locations in ANCIENT Greece viewed coming of age ceremonies. An article that in conclusion states that coming of age rites "may require establishing entirely new coming-of-age rites to mark the milestones of individual transitional journey" and "For this reason, it is important to study the ancient rites," and "purpose for these milestone events that we may create an adequate foundation to enable the success of our young people in a society that accommodates a wider range of lifestyles, family structures, and personal identities."
I have an entire post of my conversation with Labry's directly about queerness and such but I'm unsure if I've reposted it yet (since I have 200 drafts)
Anon you're just one of those people that looks at ancient Greece finds an ancient society Problematic and decides learning about Hellenic Polytheism in context of the ancient society is bad. This article isn't pro-pedophilia it's literally a history essay. Go away.
Edit for others: I found the post in my drafts a backup file from my old blog that I'll revise and publish when I get the chance (which could be awhile but I hope not, theres a reason i listed my status here as inactive) Okay here is the post

The internet WAS like this! My first blog was hosted for free on a site that let you do WHATEVER YOU WANTED with your blog's HTML, with the only stipulation being that you linked to the blog host somewhere. It didn't even verify that you hadn't commented out that link. Nobody checked.
And this was THE NORM. I learned HTML by giving my blog fiery text colours and designing blog templates for my friends. I lived through frames nested hundreds deep. There were free image hosts everywhere that would let you host your site furniture without ads and just pull it onto any other website, no crosslink protection no cross-site cookies no content moderation human or bot YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. You'll never remember what it was like not to need an adblock and that breaks my heart.
Don't tell lies about the early web. I grew up there and y'all are hamsters in clear acrylic boxes who will never know that the plateaux and deserts of Syria were your kingdom.
And don't make up narratives about the big web 1.5 names always plotting to enshittify. All these sites were created by basement nerds and got bought out over and over. Google's motto used to be Don't Be Evil - Google! Companies had to learn how to monetise and ruin the internet by trial and error because there had never been anything like the internet and never will be again.
Absolutely amazing how AO3 is a part of the internet that doesn't sneak in any ads and doesn't have an algorithm and doesn't watch you or record how much time you spend looking at each fic or whatever. It's just right there to use for free. Legend

Why You Should Use Vue.js: A Complete Guide to the Front-End Framework
Tumblr media
Introduction: What Is Vue.js?
In the dynamic landscape of modern web development, the front-end framework has become inevitable tools for creating attractive and performing user interfaces. Among the piles of alternatives, the Vue.JS framework has engraved an important niche, which is recognized for its access, progressive nature and strong abilities. Vue.JS is an open source-progressive JavaScript framework designed for the manufacture of user interface and single position applications. Unlike any monolithic framework, Vue.JS is increased by the ground, which is step by step, which means that you can gradually integrate it into existing projects, starting with small interactive components and scaling to complete applications.
Vue.js fits seamlessly into the ecosystem of the popular frontend frame with power plants such as Vue.JS reaction and angular. When responding to Meta supported by Mata, it is known for its virtual dome and manifesto approach, providing a broad, opinion disposition for angular, corporate quality applications supported by Google, Vue.JS, and keeps itself as a more acceptable and flexible alternative. It often acts as a sweet place, by combining the best aspects of both-to-react-replacement and component-based structure, with more flexibility than a milder learning curve and angular, makes it a very attractive alternative for developers and businesses in 2025.
The Core Features of Vue.js Framework
The popularity of Vue.JS comes from a set of powerful core properties that strengthen developers' effective, scalable and maintained web applications.
Simplicity and Flexibility of Vue.js
One of the most compelling characteristics of Vue.JS is its remarkable simplicity and flexibility. The API is intuitive and simple, especially for developers, already familiar with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. This minor barrier to enter the learning state significantly reduces the state, so that developers can become productive with Vue.JS in a remarkably short time. Whether you create a small interactive widget on an existing internet site or a complicated utility with a web page from scratch, custom designed Vue.Js fits your needs. The modular design lets in builders to select gear and libraries which are exceptional for his or her project rather than being restrained to a stiff environment. This flexibility makes Vue.JS a versatile alternative for all sizes and hassle projects.
Reactivity System in Vue.js
Vue's reactionary model is a foundation stone for the efficiency of the manufacture of the model's interactive user interface. In the core, Vue.JS traces the change in your data and updates only the relevant parts of the user interface instead of rebuilding the entire page. This is made possible through the proxy -based tracking system introduced in Vue 3, which enables fine reactivity, reduces unnecessary updates and significantly improves performance. This intelligent addiction tracking ensures that your user interface remains completely in the sink with your application position, resulting in a smooth, responsible user experience without extensive manual dome manipulation. To take advantage of this advanced reactionary system in your project, it is necessary to hire Vue.JS developers who understand the most important forces of the framework and can use it to their full capacity.
Component-Based Architecture
Vue.JS strongly promotes a component -based architecture, a modern paradigm for the manufacture of user interfaces. In Vue.JS, applications are broken into small, independent and reusable components. Each component surrounds its own argument, template (HTML structure) and styles, making it easier to manage complexity in large applications. This modularity code promotes re -promotion, simplifies tests and improves cooperation between development teams. By composing large user interfaces from small, manageable components, Vue.js makes it ideal for the manufacture of scalable applications that can develop and develop without undesirable.
Why Vue.js is One of the Best Front-End Frameworks in 2025
When we navigate through 2025, Vue.JS continues to strengthen its position as a top level front frame, and operates after ongoing progress and a strong basic design.
Performance and Speed of Vue.js
Performance is an important factor for modern web applications, and Vue.JS stands out in this region. Its mild nature and highly adapted reactionary system contribute to exceptionally rapid rendering and a smooth user experience. With the introduction of "Vapor Mode" in Vue.JS, the goal is to eliminate the virtual dome overhead, the VU application is set to be done even faster, possibly the developers offer the burning speed without the need for developers to significantly change the ingredient code. This attention to performance ensures that the VUE.JS app provides early strain time and uninterrupted interaction in data-intensive scenarios. Compared to other frameworks, VUE's effective updated mechanisms often result in better performance for hot updates and require low manual optimization, providing a remarkable benefit to the demand for applications.
Ease of Integration with Other Technologies
The progressive nature of Vue.JS makes it incredibly easy to integrate with a wide selection of third -party devices and libraries. Whether you need a strong state governance solution such as Pinia (replacing the official recommended State Management Library, Vuex), Vue Router such as Routing Library, or Vueti, Vue.J's ecosystem as a routing library such as Routing Library. The main library focuses perfectly on the display layer, so that developers can take the freedom to take and choose supplements as needed, without being tied to a particular stack. This flexibility extends to the Back-end technologies, which allows Vue.JS to function harmoniously with different APIs and databases, making it a very adaptable alternative for different project requirements.
Strong Community and Ecosystem
The Vue.js community is vibrant, rapidly growing, and incredibly supportive, offering a wealth of resources for developers at all levels. From comprehensive documentation and active forums to countless tutorials and learning platforms, the ecosystem makes development with Vue.js accessible and efficient. The official Vue.js documentation is highly regarded for its clarity and depth, serving as a key guide for both new and experienced developers. Additionally, the expanding ecosystem includes numerous open-source libraries, plugins, and development tools that enhance the capabilities of Vue.js and streamline the development process. This strong community plays a crucial role in the ongoing evolution and widespread adoption of the framework. Hiring Vue.js programmers ensures you benefit from this rich ecosystem and community-driven innovation to build powerful, future-ready applications.

Beyond the main characteristics, Vue.JS provides many different benefits that make it a compelling alternative for web development projects.
Fast Development with Vue.js
Vue.JS enables the growth process, which enables the market from a fast prototyping and quick time to time for web applications. The spontaneous syntax, clear structure and excellent tool, including VUE CLI (command line boundary section) and now, allow developers to quickly set the projects and focus on construction features instead of breaking with configurations. The component contained in VUE's architecture again means that the low code should be written with scratches, which further intensifies the development cycles. This efficiency is particularly beneficial for startups and projects with tight deadlines.
Easy Learning Curve for Developers
One of Vue.js’s standout benefits of Vue.JS, especially for new developers or other technologies, is a significantly simple state of learning. Vue.JS provides a more gentle introduction, often associated with the wider, meaning structure or more obvious attitude for state leadership, compared to the stator learning curves, wider, meaning structure or the reaction's reaction to JSX. The use of standard HTML, CSS and JavaScript with clear and short documentation allows developers to quickly take the basic principles and become productive in a short time. This accession provides an attractive alternative for expansion of development teams or for individual developers to dive into front-end development.
High-Quality Documentation
The official Vue.JS documentation is often cited as one of the best in the industry. It is carefully arranged, easy to understand, and provides a clear example for any convenience and concept. This high -quality documentation simplifies the process of finding answers, understanding best practices and solving problems. For developers, it means having such a wide and well -maintained resource that the solution is spent less time in search of development.
Real-World Use Cases of Vue.js in 2025
The versatility and performance of Vue.JS makes it suitable for a wide range of real world applications in different industries in 2025.
Building Dynamic Single-Page Applications (SPA)
Vue.JS is an extraordinary option for development of dynamic applications with a page (SPA). The spa provides user experience as a liquid app by loading a single HTML page and dynamically updating the content as a user interaction. Vue.J's reactive data tab and component -based compositions are perfectly suited to create these interactive and responsible interfaces. Examples of SPA produced with Vue.JS include different dashboards, social media and content management systems, where real -time updates and seamless navigation are important. The effective virtual dome and custom rendering ensure high performance for complex spa.

Decide Your Budget and Time Frame
Let’s be real—money and time are big factors. Some institutes offer flexible timings and affordable monthly packages, while others may require a larger upfront fee.
Ask yourself:
What’s my maximum budget?
Can I commit to a full-time, part-time, or weekend course?
💡 Tip: Some reputed computer classes in Pitampura offer weekend or evening batches for working professionals or college students.
Research the Institute’s Reputation and Track Record
Good branding doesn't always mean quality. Do your homework before enrolling.
Check Accreditation and Certifications
Is the institute government-recognized? Are its certifications accepted by employers?
Reputable institutes often have ties with national or international certification bodies, increasing your job market credibility.
🎓 Certification opens doors, especially when applying for jobs in the IT and software development sectors.
Look for Student Feedback and Reviews
Go beyond the shiny website. Check Google reviews, Quora, or even local Facebook groups. Talk to alumni if possible.

Do the trainers have real-world experience?
