Red Feather (an imprint with Schiffer Publishing) sent over the brand new Magic Lantern Sibilla Deck by Caitlin Matthews and illustrated by Anastasia Kashian for me to review. It’s my first experience with a Sibilla deck! I knew it was time to take a look at this card system when I read that it is the first version published with English titles. It’s typically in Italian if you are new to this system. I jumped at the chance to work with this deck and to share it with you because this is an exciting development in the cartomancy world.
This is a divinatory system that came into popularity in Italy around the 1850s. The fact that this deck is continuing to be introduced to new parts of the world over 175 years later is a testament to its utility as a divinatory tool, helping readers around the world understand their daily lives on a deeper level.
The creator and illustrator did an amazing job presenting a new vision for this divinatory system while keeping its historic charm and essence. The artwork that has an almost Victorian or impressionistic painting feel to them truly transports you to the old parlor days when cartomancers were sought out on the regular for exploring everyday issues.
And the guidebook is so thorough and comprehensive that it’s essentially a textbook, helping you master this cartomancy system through independent study. It’s set up as a 52-week course to help you tackle the system slowly over the year if you need to take things slowly and in smaller digestible chunks. I love this because I just finished a 10-week 19th century spreads course and really enjoyed devoting time each week to learn a new practice and to progress on my divinatory journey each week.
Check out my full deck review on my tarot blog to learn more about this cartomancy system. I know I’m going to really enjoy spending time with it every week as I work my way through this meaty 352-page guidebook.
The Magic Lantern Sibilla releases June 28, 2025 - $39.99 preorder thru the link below

Thanks to @redfeather for sending this deck and guidebook over!

Unlocking Symbolism in The Fool Tarot Card
Delve into the hidden meanings behind The Fool tarot card and uncover its symbolic significance in tarot readings
Tumblr media
The History of The Fool Card
The Fool card has always been associated with the concept of ‘the fool’s journey’ or ‘the hero’s journey’ in tarot. It represents the beginning of a new chapter in life, a leap of faith, and the willingness to embrace the unknown. The Fool card is often seen as a reminder to trust your instincts, follow your heart, and embrace the adventure that lies ahead.
In most decks, The Fool is depicted as a young person embarking on a journey, symbolizing new beginnings and taking risks.
The energy behind the card is that of the Court Jester. As the jester, The Fool assumed power over the god endorsed royalty as in most medieval societies, only the jester could mock the king and there by serve as a balance or regulating influence over a possible tyrant. In modern playing cards, the fool has morphed into the Joker.
The Fool Card in Different Tarot Decks
The Fool card is present in almost every tarot deck, but its depiction can vary significantly from deck to deck. Different tarot artists and creators bring their unique interpretations to The Fool card, resulting in variations in symbolism and imagery.
For example, in the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck, The Fool is depicted as a young man with a feather in his cap, a small dog at his side, and a white rose in his hand. In contrast, The Fool card in the Thoth tarot deck portrays a jester-like figure with a mask and a feathered headdress.
The varying depictions of The Fool card offer different perspectives and nuances to its symbolism. Exploring different tarot decks can provide a deeper understanding of The Fool card and its significance in tarot readings.
Key Symbolism in The Fool Card
The Fool card is filled with symbolism that holds deeper meanings within the tarot. Here are some key symbols to pay attention to when interpreting The Fool card:
eh eh eh – The Cliff: The Fool is often depicted standing at the edge of a cliff, ready to take a leap into the unknown. The cliff symbolizes the risks and challenges that come with embracing new beginnings.
– The Bag: The Fool carries a small bag or bundle, which represents the experiences and lessons learned from past journeys. It serves as a reminder to carry wisdom and knowledge forward into new adventures.
– The White Rose: The Fool often holds a white rose, symbolizing purity, innocence, and new beginnings. It represents the untainted potential of the journey ahead. In the medieval world, the white rose represented the purity of the Virgin Mary and was knows as The Mystical Rose of Heaven in the early Catholic faith.
– The Dog: The Fool is accompanied by a loyal dog, symbolizing loyalty, protection, and trust. The dog serves as a guide and a reminder to trust your instincts and intuition on your journey.
– The Sun: In many tarot decks, The Fool is depicted with the sun shining brightly in the background. The sun represents optimism, vitality, and the positive energy that comes with embracing new opportunities.
These symbols work together to convey the essence of The Fool card and the message it carries. They remind us to approach new beginnings with an open heart, trust our instincts, and embrace the adventure that awaits.
Interpreting The Fool Card in Tarot Readings
When The Fool card appears in a tarot reading, it carries a variety of interpretations depending on the context and the surrounding cards. Here are some common interpretations of The Fool card:
– New Beginnings: The Fool often represents the start of a new chapter in life. It signifies the need to embrace change, take risks, and trust in the journey ahead.
– Spontaneity and Freedom: The Fool card encourages embracing spontaneity and living in the present moment. It reminds us to let go of fear and judgment, and to embrace our authentic selves.
– Trusting Your Instincts: The Fool card serves as a reminder to trust your intuition and follow your inner guidance. It encourages you to listen to your heart and take the path that feels right for you.
– Taking Leaps of Faith: The Fool card symbolizes the need to take leaps of faith and step into the unknown. It reminds us that without taking risks, we may miss out on valuable opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
Conclusion
These interpretations are just a starting point, and the meaning of The Fool card can vary depending on the individual’s situation and the specific question asked during a tarot reading. A skilled tarot reader will consider the other cards in the spread to provide a more nuanced interpretation.

What is your preference on divination and why?
So, I have been learning and reading Tarot for a few years now. It has been an amazing learning experience but I am recently starting to become interested in other means of divination, such as Cartomancy and Lenormand. I also use pendulums and dowsing rods. What do you find more helpful and why?

Red Feather sent over the brand new book, Mastering the Tarot Tableau: Revisiting Predictive Accuracy with Tarot by Toni Savory for me to review. I’ve been taking several online divination classes with Toni this year, so it’s perfect that her book just dropped!
Ever since I learned the grand tableau method used in reading Lenormand where you lay the full deck of 36 cards out in a large spread, I’ve wanted to translate that into a method for reading tarot, and this book helps to learn that exact approach. So, I jumped at the chance to review this book the moment Toni announced its release. This tableau-style of reading opens up our ability to read narratively and will add layers to your readings quickly. Learning to read how the cards interact with each other gives us more precise messages as the story begins to flow from one card to the next.
Mastering the Tarot Tableau helps you master Tarot fundamentals, understand card meanings within the tableau context, learn both beginner and advanced tableau techniques, build compelling narratives in your interpretations, explore card interactions and positional significance using directional interpretations, and decode the impact of major arcana, minor arcana, and tarot court cards.
Toni offers plenty of examples using real tableau spreads so that we can see this method in action, and we pick up the technique quickly as we follow along on her walkthroughs of her example spreads. By the end of this book, you will have mastered several new techniques for a multi-layered reading approach, including knighting, mirroring, reading diagonals and deciphering the interpersonal dynamics of the figures in the tableau.
If you’ve ever wondered how a pro dissects a spread, this book offers you a look behind the curtain as she works.
Check out my full book review on my tarot blog to see what all Toni covers in this masterclass! It’s going on my list of the best tarot references that I recommend to new readers. Link below to this blog post
Thanks to @redfeathermbs for sending this book over!

12/18/19 - Daily Cards
X OF CUPS - peace, contentment, fulfillment, celebration
KNIGHT OF WANDS - action, adventure, fearlessness
IX OF WANDS REVERSED - exhaustion, fatigue, reaching burnout
When I drew these cards, I wasn’t really thinking about a question as I was learning my way around. I read through the explanations, and they seemed to really hone in on what I am feeling presently. It kind of shocked me.
The card that really stood out to me was the Knight of Wands. He is a man of action, the manifestation of an idea and the passionate pursuit of a vision. The high focus on an action, he can be brash, impulsive and unrealistic.
I have been talking about starting up a business again through this next year, and I feel it so strongly in my bones that this is the year to do it but I am realizing that I need to make sure that I am prepared for it and this card solidified that for me, EVEN WITHOUT ME ASKING. I am in awe.
The IX of Wands Reversed talked about being overwhelmed without support. I felt this today, very heavily. There is a line in the reading that says, “You must learn to push forward, there is only a little bit left in your journey.”
This is me, pushing forward, universe.
I am so excited to get to know you better.

(1/13/2023) Daily Card - 6 of Swords - The Universe is transitioning you, transitioning you into greater depths of knowledge and wisdom. Your soul has grown so much. As a collective, the Universe is forcing you to leave things behind that no longer serves you. You may try your best to stay in your comfort zone but the Universe is not having it. There are major changes coming your way. Changes that will make your heart sing. You have free will but when you go down the wrong path out of ignorance, you have special help from your spirit team to guide you back in the right direction. Of course your spirit team is doing this out of protection and not to strip you of your free will. Be grateful for this. The soul knows where it needs to be but the body has to catch up. There will be no child left behind.

The Lovers card #thefoolsjourney The lovers card to the Fool represents sexual union and realizing he needs a companion in the world. Gemini is represented by the Fool which represents duality, logic and reasoning. I'm going to compare my relationship to the lovers. I feel completely whole with Jeremy and we compliment each other well. We bring balance to each other, when one of us falls short, the other pics up. The lovers card also represents the Fools morals and ethics. Being in a faithful committed relationship helps me maintain my high morals and ethical value . . #majorarcanachallenge #theloverscard #thefoolsjourney #urbanmystik #euniquedivination #urbanmystikacademy #Tarotreadersofinstagram #tarotchallenge #learningtarot #fortheloveoftarot #intuitivereading #cardoftheday #spiritualityamino #intuitons #taroteverydamday #oraclereading https://www.instagram.com/p/BzjKrV2p1CM/?igshid=stq8c4x3b5wi
