Bit of welsh grammar fun in the morning..and I have a few questions! Dych chi’n Gwybod Cymraeg? Fedrwch chi helpu fi? 1) why does the -ach in a comparative sometimes become -a (like “yn enwoca na”)? What’s the rhyme & reason here? 2) does the yn fwy bit cause a mutation or not? I swear this book isn’t consistent! Still enjoying grammar practice much, I like learning vocabulary through the example sentences, and find it’s nice snack-sized input at a good level between challenge and something I can manage. Today I found myself in the town that has the longest name in Britain (possibly in the world?) I remember learning about it on a tv program when I was a little girl. It's in Anglesey in Wales. I've been thinking about doing a #welshwednesday feature for a while. My first language is Welsh and I want to share some of the amazing names. Here is the indigenous gwiwer (squirrel) goch (red) of the British isles though are barely seen due to the North America grey squirrel which now calls the UK home. This morning, I am practising my Welsh reading 📚 . I use language learning magazine Lingua Newydd, which suits my level so well! The underlined words you can see here are words that I already knew, but reading them again has activated them. I would not have remembered these when I need them in a conversation. Goes to show how often cavalry should be repeated. The Welsh word for bed is gwely - a word practically made for mutations like “fy ngwely” and “yn y wely”. The word reminds me of the wonderful band 9bach and their song ��Cwreirwch fy ngwely”. I love the look and sound of the welsh word "meddyg". When you say you're going "to the medic" I think of old-fashioned pharmacies and wise women and men. Today's little Welsh word is "am". It hasn't got one English equivalent, but always seems to be used around the topic of time.
