we all know that Mikey and Donnie are both obviously autistic and adhd but what would you say to Leo and Raph being autistic and adhd as well? I personally hc all four of them having autism and adhd but I really like your blog and your characterizations of the turtles so what do you think of it?

Oh, they are! I have one huge post going around discussing all the 2003 boys, and another with all the 2012 boys, and how they all slide along those axis points! Each turtle has characteristics of autism and ADHD and there's plenty of discussion about satellite disorders, the processing and sensory disorders that inevitably come with, etc.

In fact, I wouldn't mind opening a new discussion.

I feel better in myself when all four are along that infinity knot.

I'm agreeing with a lot of "all the 2007 Turtles probably had ADHD frankly" headcanons. 2003 Donnie got headcanoned "Asperger's" until I got on Tumblr and yelled "it's all autism, okay, and it implies eugenics so you can't keep it"

-and Mikey is Creative Theater Kid ADHD Autistic who hyperfixates on food and superhero pop culture and social science, you can't change my mind - also hey Leonardo is Introspective Strategic Motherly Brotherly Autistic who fucking loves history and battle strategy - and people ran with it, I'm thrilled.

HEY FUN FACT: Did you know that Red-Eared Sliders have this fun behavior called “fluttering” in which they rapidly shake their claws at another turtle? It’s usually either a mating behavior or a show of dominance.

It reminds me a lot of stimming! So I like to think that Leo stims :)

I just realized I can write broody angsty 2003 Leo and Bay Leo loosening up enough to be goofy with Mikey, and he would essentially be Rise Leo grown up with CPTSD and gallows humor. And the Dad Jokes would fly. At some point, Mikey offers to pay him to stop.

i’d love to hear some neurodivergent headcanons you have (i am very passionate about neurodivergent headcanons i have so many it’s unreal)

I hc that most of the Donatellos, if not all, are autistic with varying levels. I also hc that 2003 Raph in particular has autism due to the mannerisms he has in the show and I will die on that hill.

My hcs also revolve around every Mikey having ADHD (Bayverse, 2003, 2007, 2012, Rise - which was basically confirmed anyway - 2019/Batman vs the TMNT) /ADD (1987). They simply are not Mikey without it, in my opinion.

As for mutant mayhem (I’ve done a post about this) but in concept art Donnie and Mikey both have autism rep stickers - Mikey on his nunchucks and Donnie on his laptop (? I can’t remember where his was too well oops).

Other than that, I don’t particularly hc many other neurodivergent behaviours in any of the turtles notably, though I do see a lot of hcs for 2012 Raph having IED which is interesting, but I’ve not watched enough to know much about his mannerisms. Obviously I’m not a professional, these are just my thoughts and completely understand if people don’t see it or disagree! I just am quite fond of the Mikey ADHD hc the most :)

For some reason I was trying to remember a sketch that a fandom friend did of me and 2003 Mikey and me stimming while we creatively brainstorm. And then I suddenly realized that it had been a dream. Nobody had drawn that. My brain just made it all up and showed it to me. Uh. Thank you, dream brain? Good job?

I've had detailed episodic dreams about the ninja turtles before, but dreaming about a non-existant artwork is new.

For TMNT fans: A 2012 Halloween one-shot that would have been a perfect episode, written better than actual canon. Mikey dressed as She-Ra is the cherry on top. This author is magnificent when it comes to emotional depth through dialogue.

Donnie glanced at him. "That was a heartwarming, if nigh-incomprehensible statement." Casey chucked a piece of candy at him and Donnie gracefully leaned out of the way.

"Oh! Are you four dressed as...Kermit?" asked the lady at the next house.

"Yes," Donnie told her with a straight face. "Our costumes represent the four aspects of Kermit's appeal to popular culture: de-masculinization," he pointed to Mikey, "aggressive physical violence," he pointed to Raph, "the other," he pointed to himself, "and animalistic con--" Leo grabbed Donnie's pointing finger and tugged him off the porch.

"You're depriving me of my ability to my ability to educate the masses," Donnie told him.

Leo groaned. "How are you so calm?" he asked quietly, glancing at all the passerby. "With all these..."

"...humans who could potentially spot us and destroy life as we know it?" Donnie shrugged. "The getup helps, I suppose."

"Oh my god, she had cookies!" Mikey gasped. "I never want Halloween to end!"

He still makes me think of 03 Mikey, but you knew that!

Leo's 'face man' persona & the fact that it is a role he invented for himself on the team is kind of interesting to think about.

I have adhd and I have meow and quack as vocal stims. I usually do it when I am excited or there is silence. Do you think any of the turtles have vocal stims? If so what do you think they would be.

Oh, absolutely, I think they make standard turtle sounds as stims.

But since the early 2000s I've maintained, along with other elder fans, that the boys have plenty of mammalian influence. I have an entire purring headcanon that lots of fans share.

Hoots, trills, chirps, clicks, meows - although really, it's Mikey who acts like the most cat-like. The others indulge the hell out of him.

Donnie scavanged up a few of those Shiatsu heating massage pads for Mikey to lie on while in his lab with him, while bothering Leo during meditation or kata practice, while in the weight room with Raph.
