love how both tywin and ned are genre definingly different from the predecessors from their houses. lannisters have always been the clever house, from lann the clever swindling casterly rock to tyland lannister splitting kings landing's treasury. but tywin's 'low cunning' and use of brutal crushing military force to solve his problems which he employs in the reyne-tarbeck rebellion and the scouring of the riverlands and the red wedding is different from the historical version of house lannister. it's a new brand of lannisterism, tywin's version, and it is this version of lannister legacy that he passes on to his children.
ned on the other hand very much likes to distance himself from the stark features of the wild and the wolf's blood, which other starks like brandon and rickard and cregan and even lyanna are defined by, adopting instead an ethos of duty and honor more like the tully words or his foster father jon arryn. he does this because he thinks that it is this wolf's blood that killed them in the end. just like the lannister kids contend with their father's idea of a good lannister, the starklings contend with their father's idea of a good stark.

"Hector was a good man" "diomedes was an honorable man" BZZZT WRONG. Diomedes was there to steal, burn, and wage war same as the next person. In fact, he was pretty adamant about it. Hector had no issue with the greek's actions, merely that they were directed at him—I mean look at what he wanted to do with patroclus's body, only to then cite respect for funeral rites when it was his own turn to die. Hector also owned slaves within his own city walls—people that he likely took from their homes during troy's own conquests. All that seperated him and the greek warriors was which side they were on.
The Iliad isn't a story about morally upstanding men. Sure, it has men who have honor and perform honorable acts, but these are not good samaritans. It's is a story about war and grief and the real victims of fights between so-called-honorable men and gods. The urge to find a "good guy" in this story is wasted. Hector doesn't have to be morally good just because achilles isn't. Troy didn't lose because they were more or less evil than the greeks. It all just. Is. Because of fate? Because the gods said so? Because people will always make disastrous mistakes and it will always end up biting not only them, but everyone else around them? Who knows? In the end though, doesn't it all feel so pointless in the face of the endless amounts of grief and destruction that war leaves behind? Maybe that's the whole point

i will never shut up about jon promising to protect sansa in 6x09 and then the parallel of lyanna begging ned to promise to protect jon IN THE NEXT EPISODE. something something “if the day should ever come when your lord father was forced to chose between honor on the one hand and those he loves on the other what would he do?” and we KNOW ned picked love. ned loved his sister so much he lied to his king and bff to protect jon. ned loved his daughter so much he sacrificed his honor and duty to the realm and lied to protect sansa.
the writers intentionally put sansa at the center of jon and dany’s conflict. sansa’s not in king’s landing during the battle in 8x05 or 8x06 but she still haunts the narrative, her name is brought up by FOUR different characters. jon was ready to die if dany saw him as a threat to the throne. “i'm tired of fighting it’s all i've done since i left home.” and the only way to get through to him and to get him to fight again and to kill dany is to mention sansa and how she’ll never be safe with dany around. “if we don’t take back the north we’ll never be safe i want you to help me but i'll do it myself if i have to.”
and sansa is so used to being alone. she spent months waiting for robb to rescue her from king's landing, and it never happened. robb chose the north, his duty, over her. and she's beaten for the north's independence and then sold to two different families who stole the north from her. and then she finally finds help in theon and brienne and podrick but she doesn't feel completely safe again until she's in jon's arms. but even then she's still ready for more disappointment, to be separated from her family again because “life is not a song” and “there are no heroes.” but jon isn’t robb. “jon isn’t tormund. jon isn’t davos, or the red woman, or stannis for that matter. jon is jon.”
“where will you go? where will we go. i won’t ever let him touch you again. we need to trust each other. until i return the north is yours. touch my sister and i’ll kill you myself. what you did for her is the only reason i’m not killing you. i’m her family too. what about everyone else? what about the other people who think they know what’s good? i’ll protect you, i promise. no one can protect me, no one can protect anyone.” but jon proves her wrong, he can protect her. he will keep her safe. because when his day comes and he has to chose between love and duty, he chooses her. there still are heroes in her story and their story isn't over yet.

I love how this is the only entry on the wiki page for the Rite of Tal'oth. Both T'Pol and Spock talk about their Kahs-Wan and it seems to be an extremely common thing for Vulcan children to go through but ONLY Tuvok so far has mentioned this Tal'oth rite so it doesn't seem to be as expected of Vulcans. This jives with my impression of Tuvok's character being the most spiritual of the three main Vulcans (from what I understand the spirituality of Vulcan that we see in 'later' series is seen as highly taboo and illogical in ENT's time? EX: Tuvok was raised beliving in the katra while most Vulcans in T'Pol's time think katras are a myth). Tuvok speaks about questioning his faith in katras, he has a holoprogram that seems to take place in a monastery, he puts great stock in prayer (his wife and children say prayers for his safe return and he is sure to tell Neelix that the temple they go to is among the holiest on Vulcan), some of his favorite music is monks chanting, and he was pursuing the kolinahr in his youth - the only reason he didn't complete it being that he went through the pon farr and chose to be with T'Pel instead. To me, it would make sense if the Rite of Tal'oth was only undertaken by certain Vulcans who did so for spiritual reasons or as a personal test of some kind rather than something all Vulcans do at a certain age. Tuvok later goes into Security so it's possible he's always had an interest in the kind of life-or-death strategy that such rituals (Kahs-Wan and Tal'oth) require, even if his first time in Starfleet he's shown as a Science officer, likely at his parents' "request." Speaking of, we learn in 'Flashback' that Tuvok's parents pressured him to join Starfleet AND that Tuvok's father is heavily implied to be part of Starfleet. This, and the fact that Tuvok's father specifically was namedropped as the one who disowned him as a teenager makes me wonder whether or not Tuvok was pressured to participate in the Tal'oth ritual - perhaps as a way to prove himself Vulcan once again (after his adolescent failure). Or even as a preparatory method for Starfleet itself since his father was/is part of it. "If you can't do this, how are you going to be a Starfleet officer?" sort of deal.

not fair how much i relate to fugo's brothers. what if you were just not good enough no matter how hard you tried. what if all you want is to be human but they will only see you as a saint or a satan. And if you're the saint you know the second you mess up you'll be scorned forever, just like the rest of them. And if you're the satan you know you're driving yourself to your doom but you can't help it, you need them to look at you one more time, even if it's in disgust. Please don't forget about me. Please don't push me away.
I was just a kid too. I just wanted to be loved too. I am not a monster.
Thinking about how much they probably envied each other makes me crazy. Oh look how free affogato is. Misbehaving and still getting rewarded for it because no one expects any better from him. If only i was able to be as reckless and impulsive as he is. If only all these eyes weren't on me, if only I didn't have to be perfect to make up for the mistakes of my brothers. If only he was the one trapped under this burden instead of me.
Oh look how perfect Alfredo is. Getting all the adoration and attention when I'm killing myself for an ounce of it. Must be easy from up there, where people don't go quiet when you enter the room, where they don't whisper about you when you turn your back, saying what wasted potential you are. I bet he hates me just like they do. I bet he's just another face looking down on me now.
they make me so crazy

i'm thinking about her.
ran out of tags again omg but i was saying i love the idea of her looking less human and more like her natural self. greyed skin and long sharp fingernails, mouth of sharp teeth, wild-eyed and blood-soaked. i was also saying. before tumblr deleted them. that idk maybe in that time she's plaguing the town she has a mortal female lover she draws strength from. you know? yeah.
#i have so many rambling thoughts about her and most of them are with regards to her timeline ...#she's bce. the tuatha de dannan invaded ireland from the heavens in 1800s bce (before common era/before christ).#so she's olddd. she's descended from tuathe de dannan. but roisin is bce. she was there for cath maige tuired -#the two separate battles of the tuatha de dannan and when they took ireland from the fir bolg.#so she's just Old. and once they settled and spread into the otherworld beneath the land the leannan sidhe would have taken places amongst#mortal congregations within their desire to be loved and obsessed over. thus how she finds herself called to talented mortals.#thought a lot abt this and i think like remmick of sinners she cld def have a sense and sight for music/poetry/creativity of the era#and location and finds herself drawn towards it. the way remmick saw club juke had me in a chokehold. seeing through the walls. peak cinema#but yeah like. she is drawn to these areas she moves her castle there and she seeks them out. or awaits them to come to her.#people dont mistake her for a mortal like she's ethereally beautiful and being a being of wilful change -#i think this is less her changing to suit someone and moreso them seeing what they Want to see. her form changes little but you get me.#i hope you get me.#anyway for a time she would have been stuck/enslaved by a man who knew how to entrap her by hearing myth of her charm#and the intentions of these otherworldly beings. he's a wealthy poet trying to get in good with the king of the time.#uses her in less than savoury ways to gain this inspiration. gets in where he wants to be and then parades her.#well. people seeing her and hearing her speak - with the same cadence as his poetry#and the way she looks. they think she's a witch or demon and swear to have her killed. they burn her castle (wherein they were residing) an#destroy all the works she'd claimed over the years. the man in attempt to keep her takes a fatal blow meant for her and dies.#yipee! now she's free to wreak HAVOC. and that she does immediately after draining the nearest body to her#now. this is where it gets :( bcs. taking insp from that one amanda seyfried red riding hood movie.#she PLAGUES this town in the same fashion the wolf did. kills their fathers. kills their sons. kills anyone they dare to send#after her. lures them out with her own whining song <3#it becomes a little bit of a problem for the tuatha de dannan i imagine as she's becoming something of a vengeful spirit as#opposed to her natural being but. female rage amirite.#imagining the walls and the precautions and the hunts. mmm. mmm. she is eventually#Stopped. by something. by her own people. who knows. i have rambling thoughts i cannot always finish at the current time im having them i#just think she deserves to be a little vengeful for a period of time. deserves to slaughter.#imagining her being able to lure with a song of her own that excites those in need of the inspiration ... yauurrr.#most definitely her capture by that person is ad. and after catholicism is brought to ireland. bcs more lessons in#resisting temptation and not being ensnared by the devil. of which people would definitely see her as.

i’m working on mapping out my mansion relationships and i’ve realized 90% of tim’s boil down to him wanting to keep his distance from the kids out of fear he’s not a good enough caretaker and thinking they deserve better than a mess like him meanwhile all the kids flock to him without as much as a second thought. like how cats can instantly detect people who don’t like them and throw themselves all over them. they love him and WILL get him to love himself too goddamnit

Some time ago my father gave me some advice that stuck with me and I think I should share it with any/all women out there.
He said to me: If you are ever with a man that can go long periods of time doing nothing about the sadness & emotional distress he’s causing you Or if he chooses to do nothing about the discomfort and pain he sees you in, then that man is not the one for you. Whatever situation you have that is causing you stress, anxiety, worry, discomfort, pain, whatever the case - a man that truly loves you will want to do anything and everything he can to help you, to ease your mind & worries. He will naturally provide a solution for you and figure it out with you. Anything else is unacceptable. A man by nature is solution oriented, a fixer, the back bone of his household. A woman is supposed to lean on her man. It is up to him to make sure she can lean on him, it’s on him to create emotional safety, protection and solutions for her to not feel the need to go anywhere else to find solutions.
He said to me: Take your mother & I for example, whatever she needs - I provide.
Your mother turns to me for emotional support, solutions, peace of mind, money, emergencies, advice, dealing with hardships, whatever the case, she can turn to me and I will never turn her down. I will never not show up for her. I will always be what she needs, she knows she can lean on me and whatever I can’t help her with, I try to find solutions, if there are no solutions, we make a way. Ask your mother if there was ever a time she needed me and I failed her, not a single occasion where I didn’t show up for her *My mother smiling at him*
This is the kind of love you should aspire for. This is the kind of love you deserve. This is the kind of love you should hold out for. A man will move mountains for a woman he loves, a man will go above and beyond for a woman he sees the world in, so never settle unless he’s willing to show you that you can lean on him every time and not just sometimes..
Some of the best advice my father has ever given me. I hope everyone can experience this kind of love.
Thanks Dad “)
I’ll pass this down to my kids

ok but why is Ted Lasso getting a new season. what story do you even have to tell?? the only way you could continue it is by walking back the ending you gave Ted, which was narratively and thematically perfect for his character.

TFW you realize unleashing the hater inside and telling someone 'if you wanted unquestioning, joyful obedience from me, you probably should have gotten a dog' would be lost on them. since they lack the self-awareness to understand what their behavior is actually asking of you...

Young Teacher Tuvok Patreon | Ko-fi
#Person: So I heard from the students that you're the headteacher? / Tuvok: ???This is a college???#his kids gave him a mug that says 'Father' bc it would be impossible to ascertain whether or not he is in fact the no.1 dad#despite their own emphatically positive opinions...'Father' is factual v_v (in my mind the mug just has a vulcan symbol)#bea art tag#st voyager#Tuvok#Tuvok went through Starfleet training/academy - Quit - Then probably had to go to a whole different college to get a teaching license#When he re-entered Starfleet did he have to take lessons again?? Is there a separate license to be a Starfleet instructor?#After being expelled from his school as a teen ... how long was he with the monks? Did he repeat a grade?#Tuvok your education fascinates me#Vulcan school - expelled - learning at a temple with monks - repeat grade? / Vulcan school - graduate#enter starfleet academy - graduate - quit - enter college - graduate - teach - quit job - enter starfleet (academy?) - graduate?#- starfleet teaching license - end#note: I don't think under normal human circumstances you'd need to go back to the academy but Tuvok quit Starfleet at like 20 something#and who knows how many decades passed since then - I'm sure the curriculum changed a lot in like 70 years v_v#maybe....a few catchup courses. Like a semester instead of four(?) years#st voyager art#also I like the thought that Tuvok is considered introverted/reserved even amongst Vulcans#Less so than how humans perceive him but still enough that it IS a personality trait rather than purely a cultural difference
