So I just discovered a cool conversation that spun off from one of my tag monologues on a gifset—I'd seen the initial tag peer review, but hadn't realized they'd gone further than that until @ladytharen tagged me. Yet again I didn't want to pester the original gifmaker too much, so I decided to respond separately to the part I found especially interesting.

Yep, exactly. You can absolutely see the moment when he decides on exactly which side of his personality he's going to use for maximum effect on these gender policing, homophobic, ultra-military, paranoid bigots from the 60s:

I do think it's interesting that the full scene includes not only Kirk's bisexual chaos gremlin diva genderfuckery (enrichment for him!) but moments of fear and defiance:

He doesn't drop the flamboyance until he wants to, though. And the framing, lighting, angles etc only serve to emphasize their attempts to loom even more over him, aggressively get into his space, gesture right at his face to unsettle him, and his refusal to be intimidated by these fundamentally pathetic responses that are by no means free from real danger, just silly and contemptible nevertheless. It's not that he's too disdainful or amused at his own hijinks to understand how easily this could go very wrong. He simply has no respect for these men and enjoys leveraging their own hang-ups against them.

His eye make-up is also more than usually noticeable in the close-ups in this scene—even compared to other scenes in the same episode—which seems maybe not unrelated!

I think it's also worth pointing out that, TOS make-up aside, Kirk's navigation of gender performance in the original series is ... let's say, idiosyncratic. Most of the 23rd-century male characters are far more inflexible and singular about what gendered roles they're willing or able to inhabit. Kirk specifically is very deliberately fluid and versatile and theatrical about a lot of things, very much including gender performance and sexuality.

The papers were right, he'd be a much better villain.

"They make ya go to therapy? Ya know for your anger management? Bet ya get in trouble for hero brutality all the time." He hears this type of shit all the time in the media, the most it gets out of him now is an eye roll but when you say it it's like your claws are scraping at his bones. He bares his teeth and the time it takes him to think of a retort that you're able to twist your body with precision.

Letting your steel toed boot slam right into his handsome jaw. He doesn't stagger, it's annoying how much he can take but his grip loosens when you add.

"They have to, right? Otherwise the people wouldn't have let you tie with Deku huh?"

Freeing yourself expertly just out of his reach again as you dodge a swipe of his glowing hot palm.

"Ya fuckin talk too much."

"Ya didn't say that the last time you pinned me under you." You giggle and his throat burns red, swallows thickly as he lunges, wrapping you in his large arms. Pressing your chest against his b

"That was from a quirk. I ain't into you like that." He growls, nose to nose and all it does is make you smile.

"Oh?" A purr of your voice, leaning to whisper into his ear, haughty as you recall what he said to you that night, "So when you said 'fuuuuck sweetheart yer made for me' ya didn't mean it?"

It puts him into the moment instantly, him gripping onto your hips as he bounces you on his cock in doggy in the dingy alley behind a bar, you looking back at him with pretty tears in your eyes moaning out his name. His real name.

"Right, Katsuki." You can feel his heart rate increasing, feel his grip adjust in a different manner, "That's why you keep looking for me? Keep calling me?"

Leaning back as he lets up enough your arms are free, nails going to his undercut as you recalled he liked, scratching gently as you watch this hero melt in your touch.

"I thought you hated liars, baby."

"Stop." He bites, arms moving down to fall on your natural waist, one palm coming back up to squeeze your rib cage in warning.

"Stop using your quirk, yer slutty ass sex pollen shit." His eyes flicker to your lips, to the dark color he knows will smear against his mouth or the base of his cock like he's seen it before.

"That's the thing, Katsuki." You lean up lips inches from his and you'd be stupid to ignore the magnetism between the two of you, "I'm not using a quirk at all. You want me."

Suddenly your claws are sharp at his back, too sharp as you dig them deep using it as leverage to get fully out of his grip. Scaling the wall as another hero's foot steps can be heard barreling down the maze of alleyways you lead Dynamight down in a poor attempt to lose him.

oh i was gonna say that the show doubling down on the polycule was also a pleasantly surprising little post 2020s thing but then again considering that the original series finale was like "the only way they can conceivably die on the job is with all three of them tightly holding hands and dying within minutes of each other. eliot is in the middle" maybe it's the exact same actually

finally finished leverage s5 and moved straight onto redemption and can i just say. watching this as a show set in the 2020s is truly depressing because yeah all of the premise stuff is extremely true and hits extremely close to home. but ☝🏾 on the upside we get a leverage magic the gathering episode

Had some ideas for shows I'd want to add to existing franchises if I could get the rights (as it's a bit of an eternal dilemma of mine being a screenwriter and how much original success I need to be able to adapt something let alone get handed the reins of a franchise installment)

I didn't realize all but the last option were CBS-related things but some explanation for all of these

my idea for a FBI: Arts & Antiquities came from my love of (at least the first-season-which-was-the-one-that-aired-on-network-TV of) the show Blood & Treasure and the male lead mentions having worked for the Arts & Antiquities division of the FBI and that combined with the mundane non-Librarians-y angle to the bad guy they were trying to stop made me want some kind of more-history-squint-y FBI show as we've got procedurals for people who love action and for people who love STEM, history-lovers should get more than Bones and urban fantasy stuff

this Star Trek show idea (essentially sorta "my ideal Star Trek") which I'm tentatively calling Star Trek: Perseverance (we've named ships after shuttles, why not rovers) unless there's some lore bit that says a ship couldn't use that name and would be different from a lot of other current Star Trek shows in a lot of ways but most notably that it'd be set sometime during the 24th century (haven't decided yet specifically but it'd be pre-Star Trek: Picard but post-TNG) and while it would focus on a bridge crew (which if human characters are allowed to have monotheistic religions despite that one thing people quote Roddenberry on would do a similar thing for religious tolerance to what TOS did racially with an American, Russian and Japanese person on the same bridge) it'd do the Lower Decks thing of "what was this other ship doing while the Enterprise or w/e was doing xyz". And as I said, "baby captain" trying to metaphorically survive her first command. Also, another thing to note about my vision for this show, in terms of interpersonal-y stuff not related to worldbuilding it'd actually owe a lot more to shows like Bones, Leverage, or The Librarians than to any previous Star Trek show

it's always bugged me how there seems to be a CSI in every corner of the country (if Vegas counts as southwest) but the Pacific Northwest so ideally I'd want one in Portland but if that city's not in filmable shape and they're not going to do a SHMT and pretend Vancouver is Portland Seattle would be okay. Either way, I want a CSI that captures what I recently fell in love with catching reruns of CSI: NY but that could be even more so the "cool CSI" without seeming like it's trying too hard (e.g. potential obligatory-The-Who-theme-song would be "My Generation") to prove that stuff like this isn't just for boomers anymore

if a Scooby-Doo incarnation could tackle more than just the cliche kind of bad guy (with perhaps those cases serving as a midpoint between stuff like this and explicitly supernatural shit) maybe a live-action-a-la-the-CW's-Nancy-Drew-show Scooby-Doo show could work if it basically tries to be a Leverage-type thing. Maybe this universe's Mystery Inc. are, well, not technically criminals proper but, like, small-town rebels with those sorts of talents or w/e brought together to kick the ass of, say, some rich business jackhole trying to overcommercialize the spirit out of the town and once they're done conning him the reason why they take to the road is not just to reach more people but you can't really stay in a hometown you've just "stolen" at least until the heat's off
