Session 27 Summary: Three Doors Open.
The party continues further into the labyrinth for a way out. The fights that follow do not provide much struggle for the high AC duo of Cynthia and Wall, but the miasma starts to take its toll on the party. Cynthia, Roth, and Uther run into bad luck. Wall stands guard. Paddy makes a gadget drone that gets vored shortly after.
> The session starts a few moments after the events of Session 26. The party begins to open debate on their current course of action, which flips between taking a rest in the previous room or going into the next room. However, Roth searches the stands and finds a note that reads “You should hurry.” Roth informs the party of this, and they decide to head into the next room.
> Initiative starts as soon as they enter the room. And pizza also arrives for GalaxyKoi, Zyarch, and RiahkHaladin.
> After that interruption, the fight goes relatively well. Wall and Cynthia avoid a lot of attacks, Uther tanks a few hits but doesn’t feel it, and the party deals out a lot of damage to the enemies. However, one of the cultists did manage to get a Hold Person to work against Cynthia. Fortunately, before the abomination can attack, Cynthia managed to get out of it. (However, the spell causes the paralyzed condition, so she did gain another incapacitation to her counter. Otherwise, I would not have mentioned this.)
> Nur also attempts to grapple things during this combat, but he doesn’t get any success doing so. He’s trying his best.
> The miasma returns after the fight, and it takes its toll on the party more than the last time. Roth and Uther fail the save, and Cynthia critically fails. Roth lost 1 Strength, but GalaxyKoi and LightningLord got a good laugh out of it after LightningLord names the Strength reduction “Roth cant handle the smokey stuff” (9 Strength score, -1 mod). Uther appears to have lost 1 Wisdom or 1 Intelligence, as he responded later that he feels that his mind is clouded. Cynthia, with her crit fail, loses 2 Wisdom (8 Wisdom score, -1 mod).
> Wall, Paddy, and Roth begin to investigate the next room while Cynthia and Nur talk to each other. Paddy makes a gadget drone to help investigate the room to the north and east, and then Wall uses his familiar to investigate the west. The room following the cultist fight then split off into three rooms: a lavish bedroom to the north, a room with illusions of plague victims to the west, and then two fiends to the east. Wall’s familiar gets dispelled from a knife thrown by the plague victims, and the drone gets vored by one of the fiends.
> After making sure the bedroom was safe, everyone except Wall went into the bedroom. Wall, on the other hand, stays in that room after the cultist room.
> Cynthia asks the crew if anyone feels affected by the miasma, but she doesn’t mention anything about her own afflictions. Roth and Uther both report being affected by the miasma, as mentioned earlier in this summary.
> The party indulges in the food, Cynthia and Uther both chug down a bottle of wine, and then everyone takes a long rest in the bedroom or outside of it.
> When everyone is ready, they decide to flip a gold coin to pick which room to go to. This causes the following conversation:
Paddy: Wall, heads or tails? Wall: Hole. Paddy: Roth, tails is to which side? East or west? Roth: “Weast”. Paddy: Okay- Roth: East. Paddy: Okay, we go east. We’re going up against- ArkVeil: [rushed] Wait wait wait wait wait. ArkVeil: Kayla was distracting me. When you flipped the coin, I grab the gun off your side and shoot the coin. RiahkHaladin: Miss. ArkVeil: Well, that’s up to Phoenix. Zyarch: Roll me a to-hit. ArkVeil: 14. Zyarch: Uh, no. Paddy: Damn it, you just wasted a round!
> The party enters the room to the east, and the door once again closes behind them. The initiative in this combat is unusual for the party. Cynthia is at the top of initiative again, and Wall, Uther, and Roth are all on the bottom.
>At the start of everyone’s turn, everyone had to make a Constitution saving throw. Roth was the only one to fail, and then he proceeded to continually fail that save for the rest of combat. This gave him the poisoned condition, which made a lot of his Eldritch Blast miss a lot. He still did damage, though.
> Cynthia burns her spells in the first round to do damage, but 2d12+6d8+10 does only 48 damage. From there, Cynthia doesn’t do much more damage. Uther tanks a lot of damage, but he manages to stay up. Paddy switches between guns to avoid having to reload, and he also makes a Bonfire on the left fiend.
> Nur manages to grapple one of the fiends, but the left fiend targets Nur. The left fiend rips Nur’s head off and dispels Nur in one attack. Apparently the recording bot was so distressed about this that it didn’t even record that entire part.
>Wall’s attack rolls were low in this combat, but the damage from Wall was high. He manages to take down the last fiend by shoving the Beast Hunter Spear down the fiend’s throat. It turns into ash, and then mixes with the ashes of the other fiend. The ashes form into a larger fiend.

Also Beric
their blog url: lightninglord
the kind of posts they reblog: mostly photography i think. then his blog took a sharp turn and he started posting a lot about the failures of the criminal justice system. most of those are untagged original text posts. it makes a lot of his followers who are not in the know wonder what’s up, but they’re afraid to ask him.
the first person they followed: beric doesn’t remember. it’s one of those things that fades, like the face of his mother. “are you my mother, thoros? are you the first person i followed on tumblr?”
what kind of theme they’d have: something that’s very good for photography and very bad for text posts, which is ironic because of the nature of how his blog content has changed.
what kind of text posts they make at 2am: rants about the justice system.

the kind of posts they reblog: it started out with like aesthetic stuff and his friends’ selfies and shit but it devolved into vaguely religiousy social justice stuff after a while
the first person they followed: allyria, it was probably her idea he got a blog
what kind of theme they’d have: something minimalistic with lots of black and purple
what kind of text posts they make at 2am: vaguely unsettling existential questions and drunk text posts that are clearly him attempting to private message thoros and posting instead

Beric Dondarrion for the blog meme if you’re still doing it.
their blog url: something like lightninglord or lordoflightning
the kind of posts they reblog: he used to be like, a regular blogger? but then somewhere along the way he became a social justice warrior, and then later he reblogged like, exclusively weed-related posts
the first person they followed: probably Arthur Dayne or something
what kind of theme they’d have: I feel like he has one of those backgrounds that were popular in like 2013 and it’s just the same gif of sparkling stars twelve times, and the mouse becomes a lightning bolt or something
what kind of text posts they make at 2am: really dark shit about power imbalances and existentialism

Session 25 Summary: Down In the Deep
After a year-long hiatus, the Grey Rat squad returned to having active sessions. Paddy is eager to use a 4th-level spell called Bullet Storm. Paddy also talks to a lich as if the lich couldn’t kill him with a flick of the wrist. Roth attempts some acrobatics, but doesn’t quite get it. Nur is welcomed back to the material plane and later is really excited to press a button. @northern--song takes 14 damage in Nur’s place due to a mispronunciation on Zyarch’s part. Wall goes AFK for maintenance. Cynthia’s down-spiral into madness becomes more apparent.
> The party remembers what happened in Session 6, and then realizes that that’s the wrong session summary. Don’t worry, they eventually read off the right summary. Zyarch mentions that he had better notes in the earlier sessions, and Galaxykoi wants the non-spoiler notes so she can finally have session summaries for sessions before Session 15.
> Also at the start of the session, GalaxyKoi makes a slightly-inaccurate prophecy about when Cynthia will go down to 0 HP next. She was only slightly off. Additionally, the DM mentions that “a button, when pressed, releases two stone golems”, which was what the party fought last session. One more thing to note before the actual session was that ArkVeil was absent, so lore was revised as mentioned in the Session 24 Amendments so that the party was balanced for encounters in the session. Alright, now to the actual session.
> Now at Level 7, the party adjusted health and spells. The most discussed upgrade the party got was that Paddy (and Roth) gained 4th-level spell slots, so he can now cast a homebrew spell called Bullet Storm. RiahkHaladin was very excited about this. Additionally, Cynthia gained a third 2nd-level spell slot and movement on opportunity attacks through Oath of Vengeance.
> Entering the dungeon, the party came across a long hallway. The crew was trying to be safe and was going to check for traps, but Uther walked through the hallway perfectly fine. The crew retraced his steps to avoid any hidden traps. However, at the end of the hallway was a giant pitfall trap, and Uther fell in.
> Uther fell about 30 feet into a pool of water, and he announced that he was fine. Interestingly enough, the rooms were well-lit despite there being no source of light. Uther mentioned a staircase going upwards, and the original plan was to wait for Uther to return. Paddy danced around the pitfall and made it to the other side. Cynthia tried to leap across it, but fell into the pitfall. Roth made it over to the other side, but then he decided to join Cynthia. He attempted to do it in style with a triple-long-jump, but he doesn’t quite get the second jump and falls in head-first. Paddy cannonballs downward. The water is cold, despite what Cynthia said about it being warm.
> After getting out of the water, Cynthia decided that she was lonely and wanted Nur to come back. Good thing she just gained another spell slot to bring back Nur. However, the casting time of Find Steed is 10 minutes, so the crew explores the room while she chants.
> The room itself was a large, 50-by-50-foot area with 4 buttons, one on each wall. Next to them were statues of different creatures. There was a statue of 2 stone golems. When Nur finally gets summoned, Nur gets really excited about the idea of button-pressing, but Cynthia tries to keep everyone from pressing buttons. However, Paddy eventually pressed the button with two stone golems. Everyone expects two stone golems to appear, but instead, 9 spiders appear from behind a wall opposite to the button. Combat begins.
> Roth tried to shoot at a spider that looked at him funny, but the beams of Eldritch Blast miss. He also missed “the simulator”, apparently. One of the spiders hit Tumblr user and Iotath’s Unrest fan northern--song instead of Nur because Zyarch said “North” instead of “Nur”. Shortly after this occured, northern--song updated her Discord status to “+14 damage”. The damage still went onto Nur, though, and Nur is noted to have a better Constitution score than Cynthia.
> However, the spiders quickly surround Nur and Cynthia, and the two took on way more than they could handle. Even though Nur should have been dispelled at 0 HP, he was instead paralyzed and poisoned. After GalaxyKoi and LightningLord rolled two Nat20s for Uther, one of the spiders bit Cynthia, and GalaxyKoi Nat1′d the Constitution saving throw, which simultaneously incapacitated, poisoned, and paralyzed Cynthia for an hour. However, both Nur and Cynthia were still considered conscious.
> The spiders were dealt with, and Nur and Cynthia were the only two members that were incapacitated, poisoned, and paralyzed. Paddy tried to figure out what had happened to them, but really couldn’t quite figure it out. Roth slapped mustaches onto Nur and Cynthia and called it a day. Paddy became acting captain and took Roth and Wall down another flight of stairs that appeared. Uther watched Cynthia and Nur with a bored expression.
> Paddy, Roth, and Wall descended down many flights of stairs, eventually crossing over a darkness that unknowingly sends them miles underground. The end of the stairs led them to a large library, and sitting in one of the chairs was a corpse.
> Paddy sits down next to the corpse and starts reading a book, but he is interrupted by the corpse, who is revealed to be the lich of the dungeon, Arumon. Paddy has a casual conversation with the lich, discussing what the lich last remembers compared to what was happening then. The lich congratulates Paddy for clearing the dungeon, and then Roth also meets the lich after disappearing into shadows for a few minutes. Roth tries to shake the lich’s arm, but the arm pops off. The lich is embarrassed, and then compliments Roth’s “magical signature”. Roth explains warlock basics.
> Cynthia and Nur’s paralysis finally ends, and they rush with Uther down the stairwell, worried about Paddy, Wall, and Roth. However, after passing through the darkness, Cynthia experiences a dizzy spell, takes another step, and then tumbles down the remaining flights of stairs. This was perfectly timed with Paddy saying that there was probably “an idiot in the room”. Still somehow conscious, Cynthia and Uther notice the lich and attempt to attack the lich. However, both are paralyzed again and moved into chairs to have a nice, relaxed conversation about the lich’s relation to the Living Plague.
>I (GalaxyKoi) can’t remember which session Uther had mentioned the lich, but Uther had mentioned to lich to have a possible relation with “raising armies of undead”, which is why both Cynthia and Uther have immediate hostility. However, Arumon clarifies that he had sacrificed himself to seal away an artifact that contained the Plague. However, as already seen in canon, this was mostly in vain. The human continent had been wiped by a previous iteration of the Living Plague, and the current Living Plague outbreak ravaged Iotath. Cynthia agressively brings up that the Living Plague was still happening, and the lich agrees to let them follow him to check on the artifact.
> The party and Arumon, with Arumon’s magic, was granted with a better Haste that allowed the crew to move 180 feet in 6 seconds. Eventually, they reached a room and walked past lines of golems, some even being of mythril quality. At the end of doors, hallways, and more golems, they reached a wall with an entrance to an unstable pocket dimension. Before entering, Arumon gives Roth horns and a mustache. As Arumon enters, the pocket dimension closes on him, trapping him in the pocket dimension.

Session 22 Summary: A Duel With An Old Friend
Session 22 Summary- A Duel with an Old Friend
The crew travels further north to investigate a lead on a special sword. Cynthia fails horrifically at anything related to dexterity, but at least she can deal 65 damage with one action. Wall and Paddy work together to survive. Roth does more warlock shenanigans. Everyone wonders about Poth.
> As they hike further north, the day ends, and so they have to settle in a cave for the night. Everyone’s plans on making a fire vary at first, but most of the crew work with their strengths. Wall yeets Roth up a tree to swipe down sticks while Paddy creates a bonfire with the Create Bonfire cantrip. Cynthia guards the cave and also heals Roth for one point of health when Wall doesn’t fully negate Roth’s fall damage.
> The next day, they find some footprints in the snow. Wall helps the crew track the footprints further. Shortly into the walk, however, Nur is dispelled from cold damage, being a cold-blooded reptile. They also begin to get concerned over if the crew should stealth as they get closer. Around the 30-minute mark of the session, when Cynthia’s disadvantaged, -1 bonus to stealth is brought up, the following conversation occurred:
ArkVeil: So, if I knocked out Cynthia and dragged her, would she have a better chance at stealthing? DM: If you knocked- Well, no, because she’s in heavy metal armor. ArkVeil: ‘Kay, so I have to strip her first. Got it. DM: Paddy’s experienced at that. RiahkHaladin: It was just down to her under-armor, it gets the big metal bits out… I didn’t want her to wake up with muscle cramps. GalaxyKoi: See, he cares! But he unfortunately got- ArkVeil: Roth, get the club. GalaxyKoi: You just suggest “Why don’t we knock her out?” and Cynthia is just like “WHAT?” LightningLord: “Why don’t we just knock her out again?” “Again??”
The DM’s comment was referring to a moment at the end of Session 7, when Paddy ended up having to take care of an unconscious Cynthia after the Fall of Hundelstone. Paddy’s player messed up with words, saying, “After doing the captain,” which everyone took the wrong way. Anyway, let’s move on from joke explanations.
> The crew begins to realize that the weather is picking up, and they may find themselves in a storm for the night. At the end of the day, they have an argument over what they should do to survive the night, and they end up splitting up. Wall and Paddy make a luxurious snow cave while Roth and Cynthia settled in a seemingly-abandoned fox den. The next morning, Roth and Cynthia wake up to find an artic fox on top of them, and they tried to tame the fox. However, this fails.
> The crew meets back up, and then they follow the footprints more. This time, they end up finding a bandit outpost. They all agree to see if they can get close enough to snipe the bandits off, and Paddy distributes guns to Cynthia and Wall. Roth doesn’t need guns because he has his own: Eldritch Blast.
> The plan somewhat works, but their initial attempt at stealth fails, with half of the party failing their stealth. The bandits see them from 270 feet away, and they begin to charge at the crew. Paddy, Wall, and Roth (Cynthia doesn’t do well with DEX weapons!) shoot off and pick off bandits as they charged.
> The bandits, after seeing many get shot down, begin to retreat, but Roth chases after them with Fly. The “captain” of that group of bandits, as well as the rest of the bandits there, are unable to escape the crew’s wrath. Roth catches up to the remaining bandit captain and breaks the captain’s knees with a club, eventually incapacitating him. Wall plans to go after Roth for nearly killing their only way of getting information, but Cynthia herself stops him, giving Roth a high five and getting Inspiration.
> The bandit captain wakes up again, and they begin to interrogate the bandit captain. This goes successfully, as the captain is terrified of the crew, particularly Roth. The bandit captain also mentions that his boss forced the bandits to search for a cave that oddly fits the description of the cave Cynthia found in Session 21. Cynthia asks the bandit captain to take them to their leader, and he does.
> The crew is taken to the main bandit camp, and the bandits are more than okay with taking the crew to the boss. However, one surprising thing happens: the boss looks like Braveheart, one of the former crew members of The Grey Rat, but older and more battle-scarred. Braveheart had assumingly died early on in the campaign, jumping straight into a place called the Abyss of Gond. Roth, Cynthia, and Paddy even bring this up with the bandit boss, and upon the name of Braveheart, the boss laughs and says, “I haven’t been called that in a long time.”
Cynthia explains the whole situation to Wall, and Wall brings up that magic could have definitely made something happen related to the two Braveheart’s. Cynthia asks to hear about it later.
> The bandit boss, named Uther, challenges the four of them to a duel. Cynthia happily accepts on the behalf of her crew. There is only one rule: no one will be killed in this duel.
> Everyone gets a prep round before the combat starts. Cynthia sprouts out her Radiant Soul wings and Wall casts Shield of Faith on himself.
> Some notable events in combat:
- Round One: some of Uther’s abilities are revealed: he has Multi-Attack, and he can use a reaction to block a hit. This reaction block cancels out Cynthia’s first hit.
- Round Two: Paddy Nat1’s his attack, causing his guns to misfire. Wall steps onto the tree-sized enchanted clubs of Uther.
- Round Three: Wall casts Shield to have 29 AC against a series of attacks.
- Round Four: Wall realizes the potential in having a ridiculously high AC. In fact, most of his turns for the rest of this combat is the following: Dodge, Command Owl, and then maybe Shield on reaction. This makes him a really good wall.
- Round Five: Precisely 2 hours, 22 minutes into the session, 2 nights before the 22nd of March, Cynthia gets her first Double Nat20 on Multi-Attack after using Vow of Enmity. However, the damage dice roll below average for such a hit (2nd-Level Divine Smite and a 1st-Level Divine Smite, plus Radiant Soul bonuses, plus her Fighting Style bonus, which ended up making her total damage 14d8+20 [90 average]) with 65 damage. This prompts Uther to go into his second phase.
- Round Six: Cynthia goes down from a series of punches. Roth successfully casts Witch Bolt.
- Round Seven: Cynthia’s fine, but she backs out of the fight to respect the duel.
- Round Ten: Wall mocks Uther for not being able to hit Wall. Wall keeps dodging.
- Round Eleven: Witch Bolt keeps oscillating between doing one damage and eleven damage.
- Round Twelve: Wall gets close to going down, and so he and Paddy have to spend their time into keeping Wall alive. Witch Bolt continues oscillating between one and eleven. The battle starts to drag out from here, and it becomes the longest combat the party has ever been in.
- Round Thirteen: Witch Bolt becomes the party’s only damage source, and it decides to stop oscillating and go with eight damage.
- Round Fourteen: Uther also gets a double Nat20.
- Round Eighteen: Uther tells Roth to club him. Roth does exactly so, landing the winning blow on Uther. However, as Roth strikes Uther, his fiend whispers to him, “You’re welcome.”
> As the fight ends, Cynthia rushes to congratulate her crew on winning the duel, and she heals them a bit with what little healing she has. However, something intervenes their celebration. Beams of frost shoot down from the sky and freezes bandits…
