not fl related but lol + also lmao. Almost forgot I have an appointment w the audiologist again tomorrow after work
#she recommended hearing aids at the last appointment but I'm still on the fence#my hearing sensitivity is technically within normal levels on the metrics (but low tones on the left side are on the border)#but my auditory processing is hot garbage apparently lol#the cutoff for ''normal'' on the initial screening was a 2. I scored an 8 (that's a lot apparently)#so we're doing another test today and then like will talk abt options. it just feels kinda weird ig#like idk. there's some part of me that feels like it's overkill and potentially taking resources from people who ACTUALLY need them#I don't wanna be dramatic and like my family (though mostly my mom) are really against the idea#it'd be situational use (primarily work/social outings where I expect things to be more hectic and noisy)#which is part of what kinda like. idk. makes it feel weird?#like I NEED my glasses. I legally can't drive without them. I can't really FUNCTION without them#that feels like a legitimate claim and need as an aid#but smth I can just choose not to ever use and still get by feels like. different I guess#idk. hurgh. sorry for tag rambles.

What kind of yandere do you think Vincent is? 👀
There's 2 answers to this question. The normal one and then the extended yummy kidnapping, non-con version because I am a complete degenerate. So here we go:
HEAVY CONTENT WARNINGS!!!!!!!!
My set up idea is kinda just Chaos seeing you for the first time and immediately latching on. Like a, “this is my human, and I want them sort of thing” and then they drive Vincent absolutely insane with want and need.
Vincent is extremely possessive. Anyone that even glances at you for slightly too long will get a death glare. Anyone that touches you, objectifies you, acts inappropriate etc will suddenly find themselves with injuries, involved in 'accidents' or worse.
Vincent is obsessed with having your attention. He wants it constantly, and will often sneak in while you're talking to other people and try make you pay attention to him.
He wants your touch as much as possible and will constantly brush against you and move in as close to you as possible.
He treats you like glass and is exceedingly gentle when he touches. If he’s wound up then he struggles to control his strength, but usually he is surprisingly soft towards you.
He is closed off to everyone else in the group, he isn't really interested in them, he's only interested in you. He'll have short conversations with them, while always asking questions and initiating conversation with you.
Vincent is a good listener and will listen to you talk about or vent about anything. He enjoys seeing you get excited about things and will do anything to make you smile.
He will encourage you to vent to him, with the ulterior motive that he wants to make anything that frustrates you go away by any means necessary.
He will give you gifts and get you practically any item that you express interest in wanting, not always through legal means. Often they will be left on your bed without a note, but it's obvious who they're from.
He will follow you closely like a shadow, stalking you in the darkness when you're out in public to protect you.
He was a Turk and has a whole range of skills that he puts to use towards anyone that wrongs you, or attempts to wrong you.
Extended (CONTENT WARNING for Kidnapping, Non-con etc):
Vincent will keep you locked away in the Shinra Manor basement where no one else can get anywhere near you.
He is clinical in the way that he looks after you, how much he gives you to eat and drink etc. His body doesn't work properly, and he's forgotten how a lot of being human feels.
He likes you being restrained, wrapped up in chains, ropes and similar. He gets a sick pleasure from seeing you chained up how he was while he was being experimented on.
He is either exceedingly gentle, or very rough, often not knowing his own strength. He doesn't want to hurt you, but he often can't control himself completely.
He enjoys marking you up and will leave you covered in hickeys, spank marks and lash marks. He will not deliberately bruise you, but will show them off if he gives them to you accidentally.
He does not have a good grasp of boundaries, because his were violated so often. He will manhandle you, and not give you any privacy, but he is also not embarrassed or phased by your body's natural functions.
He is obsessed with your pleasure and will overwhelm you until you can't handle anymore. He's not good at edging, but will force you over the edge again and again until you pass out.
He wants you to scream and beg for him, the louder the better. He won't gag or try to mute you.
He will usually come early in his pants while pleasuring you, but he can go multiple times because of the experimentation, so it doesn't matter.
He fucks rough and is extremely overwhelmed by your body and being inside of you. He will bite, scratch and claw at you. He won't last very long, but sets a brutal pace that makes you glad for it.
He does not fuck for your pleasure, and so will make sure you're beyond satisfied before giving into his desires.
He is desperate for your humanity and being reminded of it. He will curl up with his head on your chest, or his hands on your neck to feel your breathing etc. He will tie you up so you can't move and then curl up with you for hours, days sometimes, reassuring himself with your humanity.

I would like to add a couple notes as someone who requires their glasses to even function day to day.
I have an astigmatism: meaning the lense of my eye is somewhat misshapen. If I didn't wear them, I would legally blind and unable to drive, read, work, etc.
Mine's about mid-range as far as I can tell. Everything close to me is just fuzzy but it gets very fuzzy very quick, and everything starts to fuzz together after maybe a five or so yards/meters. I also can't read words, even large words, unless they're about six inches from my face without my glasses. Astigmatisms can be worse or better.
That thing that's been going around on social media, where the lights blur if you have an astigmatism is true. I've even noticed it to a small extent with my glasses on.
Contacts are not always an option. They are really, really expensive just for a trail pair and insurance isn't gonna cover it if you have glasses at the same time and your options are slim to none for prescription fit. Even when I wore contacts, they didn't fully correct so I couldn't see as well with them. I had to stop because they only came in monthlies, and they kept tearing two weeks in and a year's supply would barely last me six months.
If I don't wear my glasses for too long, I can get nauseas due to how my vision distorts. May be just a me thing but it happens. We live.
Glasses repairs (as long as the frames don't snap) are often quite easy and can be done at home. Even if the frames break if someone's desperate, you're gonna tape them up until you have the money. Even though my glasses are covered under insurance (I'm under my parents currently) but I only change them out when my prescription changes. This can be quite frequent when you're a kid but as you get older you can usually go longer without needing new glasses or having your prescription change drastically.
People will usually choose a pair of glasses that looks good on them, unless you're forced to buy just what you need to survive. Face shape, eye and hair color, etc can influence what glasses will look good on someone.
Like OP said, taking our glasses off will just piss us off. If I didn't wanna wear glasses, I'd get contacts. Or surgery. But they're both expensive.
Also, surgery isn't always an option. Even if it was a short-term fix, it can take as little as five years for your vision to revert back to what it was prior to surgery. This does depend on what causes your impaired vision (my astigmatism is what makes surgery a short term only solution) but there can be other conditions too.
The occasional Velma "Where's my glasses" routine is funny, in my opinion, although I tend to do it after I've set the suckers down and suddenly managed to forget where they are. And then you can't see which makes it worse. I've massively panicked due to this on occasion so that's always an option.
Writing Characters with Glasses
Glasses are one of those components in writing that one just knows whether the writer has any experience with or not from the offset. So how do we write glasses-wearing characters or characters with impaired vision?
What is your character's eye strength?

Now, you don't have to know your character's exact diagnoses but you should know what sightedness your character has. Near-sighted means your character has trouble seeing things far way but can see things up close. Far-sightedness means a character can see things better in the distance than they can in before them.
Typically, one eye can be weaker or stronger than another, so a lense may be slightly thicker or slimmer than the other. Myself, my left eye is much weaker than my right.
Wearing Glasses

Typically when you wear glasses, you start to ignore the frames in your peripheral vision, however if you may notice it more if you haven't been wearing your glasses for a while.
Also when you change lenses, your sight is funny for a while. Things, like the fucking ground itself, seem a lot closer which can lead you to feel very disoriented. Its best to break glasses in gradually, in the words of Our Lady, Theresa Manion, "Do not make unnecessary journeys, do not take risks on treacherous roads..."
Glasses can get dirty and smudged very easily and do require cleaning. You may often see somebody wipe their glasses with their shirt tail but this isn't always effective, some fabrics just worsen the issue. Dry tissue paper is the best or a glass cloth. Frames also should be cleaned too.
Glasses tend to fog up when it rains, when you sweat or when you're somewhere steamy or drinking/eating something really hot. It can be a nuisance but it usually won't impair your vision that much.
Glasses can strain your eyes and start to chafe after a while. Long periods of wearing glasses can make your eyes start to ache (it always happens to me) and the best thing to do is just remove them and rest your eyes. The frames can also rub against the tops of your ears or the bridge of your nose.
People who need glasses tend not to remove them very often. If your vision is very bad, you won't be whipping your glasses off at every opportunity like Horatio Caine. If you only need reading glasses or need glasses for specific tasks you, wouldn't wear them 24/7 as it can further damage your eyes (I did this and now I can barely see 4ft ahead of me).
You can do tasks without your glasses but you do feel more cautious, especially if you have difficulty making out details. Glasses usually make you more comfortable in situations.
And as for the whole pushing up glasses when they slip (and they do slip but gradually), there's no right way or wrong way. Personally, I adjust by moving the entire frame between my thumb and forefinger so I don't smudge the lense. But pushing it up by the bar that crosses your nose is also effective.
When you're not wearing glasses

Not wearing glasses isn't delibiltating if your character's sight isn't majorly mad. As I mentioned before, they can still carry out tasks. But not wearing glasses can leave you a little unsure and sometimes disoriented.
Most people can still see without glasses, things just aren't as focused. For me, things get very fuzzy especially if they are far away but I can still make out the shape - for example, I can see how many fingers you're holding up but not your ring. I can do a lot of tasks without glasses.
When you're not wearing your glasses, you do tend to squint which can help you see a little better or tend to lift things to your eyes to see them better.
Characters wearing glasses

If your character loses their glasses in a fight, they won't be unable to fight back. They can likely still see some things.
Glasses hurt when knocked from your face, you can cut or bruise from a blow to the glasses. (it's happened to me which is why I have a massive scar on my forehead).
Your character will likely dislike going to the optician. Getting your eyes looked into by a stranger with a torch is irritating. Buying new glasses is a long drawn out hellish experience.
Breaking your glasses will upset your character, mainly because they're expensive. A character may opt to get the glasses fixed instead of replaced.
Your character will keep their glasses near at all times. Sleeping, they will be in reach. In the shower, they will be somewhere close by. Glasses may your more confident in your ability so they will always be near.
Also your character will likely not store their glasses in a pocket (they can break) or on their heads (your hair can smudge the lenses).
If your character has one of those early 2000s rom-com moments where their glasses are removed so the world can see their "true beauty", yeah that isn't a thing. Now that person can't fucking see.
Also, your character will likely hate anybody grabbing their glasses or wanting to try them on.

My dad is very nearsighted and is legally blind without his glasses but can see just fine with them - he is the type of person who has to use touch to feel around for his glasses if he loses them. (He also has something going on where his pupils are always slightly too dilated? Which means he has to wear sunglasses while driving in the day, and dislikes driving at night because of the glare from lights, but really enjoys astronomy since he can see the stars very well.) Meanwhile I'm slightly nearsighted, worse in one eye than the other, but it's mild enough that I spent my entire time at college without wearing glasses and only started wearing them again last year when I realized the lack of depth perception was affecting my art. (I'd thought my good eye was slightly farsighted, but it was actually slightly nearsighted, and that mixup meant that my glasses gave me headaches so I didn't like wearing them.)
My mom is hard of hearing because her birth father would hit her on the ears when she was a kid (Grandma divorced that man for her kids' safety, and he's not in the picture no more.) and she sometimes has to ask people to repeat things. I'm technically not HoH afaik, but I have tinnitus and auditory hypersensitivity (the sound of a door shutting just normally is enough to hurt a little, for example) so I wear headphones constantly to muffle all sounds and make things bearable. Because of the headphones and my other auditory processing struggles, it's functionally like I'm hard of hearing, as I often have to ask people to repeat things they said, and especially in loud situations I can't just remove the headphones to hear better.
My grandpa (who I live with and help care for) is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids. Sometimes we have a "conflicting access needs" moment when his hearing aids feedback and produce sounds that are painful to me even through my headphones, but the feedbacking bothers him too so he finds a way to get it to stop pretty soon. We frequently have to ask each other to repeat things or get closer and then repeat things, which can be a bit annoying but we're used to it.
also sometimes we have funny moments such as when I asked "You don't have your hearing aids in, do you?" and he said "I can't hear you! I don't have my hearing aids in!"
For any creatives out there who may need it, this is a fairly important thing to note. Bc shockingly I still see genuine mainstream media still be really sloppy about this topic:
In people who are classified as blind or deaf, there's actually very few cases where it's this, all engulfing complete sensory deprivation. What I mean by this is, that someone can be considered blind if they for example lack peripheral vision so severely that they have to actively focus something on the very center of their field to really make out what it is. Or the other way around. Or that their vision is really blurry. Or their eyes can't focus on the same thing, or dozens of other ways people Can't See Well. Same for deafness: someone's hearing can just be so poor that they can't function the same way that non HOH people can. It can mean that one ear is deaf and the other is normal, it can be just hearing if something is really loud or only being able to hear when there's no background noise. The list goes on.
The way blindness and deafness manifests is extremely diverse but I only ever see media do the "Literally complete darkness" for blind characters and "Wouldn't hear a fucking car coming at them until they see the headlights" type of shit for deaf characters. It's so boring and idiotic. Like duh sensory disabled people can rely on other senses or methods to navigate the world but it also doesn't automatically mean blind people have amazing hearing or whatever else played out archetypes writers like to give disabled characters to make them ~more capable~. Like please don't have the range be either "Pathetically helpless" or "Superhero with one sense missing but that makes them More Special".
Deaf people feel soundwaves and vibrations just like hearing people do, blind people can detect the difference between light and dark, and also feel vibrations and air passage to know when someone or something is there. Now I'm not blind nor HOH but even I know that in most cases it's not that black and white. Blind and deaf characters can be perceptive without being supernaturally talented in other ways ffs. Just realise that it's A Spectrum.
#psii.txt#sensory disability#abuse mention#just describing some more types of sensory disability for anyone's understanding#in mainstream media glasses are often treated as this like... mark of nerdiness#that disappears when a girl gets makeovered#I'd like if more things depicted the actual experience of wearing glasses#it's not all just 'oh no I lost my glasses now I can't see'#it can also be 'I gotta log off for a bit I'm getting eyestrain headache because my glasses are out of date and I looked at screen too much'#or 'my glasses are all smudged it'll be a minor pain to clean so I don't want to wear them rn. but this means I'm going to have trouble#with reading and might mix up words and misread things more than usual'#and also the thing I've been dealing with lately which is 'I just got new glasses but while I was wearing them and playing video games my#left eye suddenly got noticeably more nearsighted and now I'm kinda pissed because I had perfect corrected vision for a bit there'#idk what's up with that but I got an appointment made to get my eye looked at so hopefully it'll get figured out soon#also in my humble opinion glasses-needing is absolutely a disability#we just don't see it as such because glasses are so normalized#but they're not a magic cure of bad vision. glasses are a whole thing to deal with and also sometimes eyes do a stupid#I think in general media depictions of disability tend to be needing nuance#like how fictional wheelchair users are almost always fully paralyzed waist down but in reality many wheelchair users can walk A Bit#or can walk but with pain or slowly or something like that#also I think spending time with elderly people can be a good way to understand disability better#many elderly people are disabled but there are often systems in place to help meet their access needs#observing how that works can help you understand how disabilities work for younger disabled people as well#(also 'old people disabilities' tend to be seen as somehow different from young people disabilities but imo they aren't really)#(just more normalized)

This is so interesting bc I have bad vision. Not like, bad bad, but I can only see a few inches in front of my face before things get blurry. Can't legally drive without glasses or contact, etc.
My gf could technically drive without them, but it's better for her not to..
When I get out of bed in the mornings (or for a midnight snack/bathroom run) my glasses go on immediately. I feel vulnerable without them. I don't like it. I go "lol I'm so blind" without really thinking about the reality that without my glasses, I would struggle in day to day life. I couldn't leave my house.
My gf sometimes loses her glasses or just doesn't wear them bc she doesn't need them as bad as I do, and I just can't IMAGINE not wearing my glasses. If I lose my glasses, it's an minor emergency bc not only can I not do other shit effectively, I can't SEE the thing I am looking for that will help me see. If she loses her glasses, it's not a big deal unless she's running late for work, and even then she could probably leave without them.
For so long, I've just thought of my glasses as part of my face, albiet a removable one. I've never really framed (heh) them in the context of them being a disability aid. I've never heard glasses called seeing aids, as opposed to the relatively ubiquitous "hear aid," for example.
And reading this post above mine made it click for me. I feel vulnerable without my glasses because impaired vision is a disability that seriously hinders my functioning, and I feel silly now.
