SU Analysis of “Can’t Go Back” & “A Single Pale Rose”

Holy shit, that Lapis song was amazing, I can’t keep my thoughts together. But one thing I know is clear. Lapidot is totally canon.It was so cute when Lapis said,”What would Peridot think?” which means something. But enough of my shipping talk and nonsense, lets get to the analysis and the real plot. Now we see why Blue Diamond is always is crying and feels guilty. She told Pink that she basically needed to buck up and rule with an iron fist

She feels responsible for leading her surrogate child to her death. I mean, hell I would too if I told somebody to do something that ended up getting them killed. Maybe this also explains why Yellow is so irritable when Pink is brought up too. She also thinks it was her fault as she felt like she shouldn’t have given Pink her own colony. She obviously wasn’t ready to rule, but she buckled under her insistent nagging and gave her a colony. Which once again lead her to her death.

Thats all I have for “Can’t Go Back” because holy shit, but now lets try to unpack “A Single Pale Rose”. Now first lets look at Pearl acting so innocently

Girl thought a whole ass suitcase was needed to protect her phone. Now back to the real thing. In this episode, all of the theories surrounding that Pearl has been limited to talk about Pink Diamond because it was one of the diamonds who forbid her to talk. But in the episode we find out it was PINK DIAMOND HERSELF. With this info, we can guess that sometime throughout her rule, Pink, I guess, grew curious of the inhabitants of the planet. She then started to try and mingle among them, but since she was a diamond, she knew she couldn’t do that without drawing some attention to herself. So she probably shape shifted into a Rose Quartz whenever she  wanted to interact and came to care more for the locals and the gems. She specifically came to care for one gem in particular, one who she came to trust the most with her plan of letting go of power, and that is our darling Pearl herself

Pink eventually became overwhelmed with all one has to do while ruling, so she probably wanted to step down. But that was probably already impossible since they had already begun their resource harvesting and her sisters had literally told her to buck up. The only viable way to step down from power was a planned fake assassination, with the person she considered her closest companion, Pearl, shape shifting into Pink Diamond’s alter ego, since it was a “Rose Quartz” who was becoming more caring and lets say, empathetic to the point of throwing a rebellion in order to protect the planet.

With Pink Diamond “shattered”, Pink could now live out her life in her “Rose Quartz” form with all of her human friends and the Crystal Gems on Earth. But Pink Diamond had expected backlash from the other Diamonds. I mean, how else would you explain her human zoo? She probably took to space the meager handful of humans she could take in fear of that they would probably be wiped out by the other Diamonds’ eventual attack. She obviously wasn’t thinking that whatever attack did happen probably wouldn’t affect the humans, but instead the Gems themselves. Which is why there are only 2 of the original Crystal Gems. She always kept Garnet and Pearl by her side, so it only makes sense that were able to be safe from the light attack, but the other gems had no forewarning or any means of protecting themselves.

No wonder why Pearl always covered her mouth, It was Rose herself who had forced her to be sworn to secrecy. It seems like Pearl herself had come to even regret the decision as time went on because I mean, Rose said to Pearl,”I wanna live here with you”, and we see how well that turned out. *COUGH* Steven being born *COUGH*.

Even at the last battle, Pearl even asks herself,”Why did I do it”. Pearl basically realized it was foolish to think that they could pull of such a big rebellion without humongous losses. Because of her tricking the other diamonds that Pink had been killed, it lead to the death of all her friends.

It was obvious that Amethyst didn’t know but knew that the subject made Pearl uncomfortable, so she did her best to avoid the subject. But the fact that even Garnet seemed surprised made me so confused. I thought that since she was another confident of Rose, that Rose would eventually reveal her true form. But she did technically joined the rebellion sometime after it had started. Or maybe she was just surprised that Steven had finally learned the truth. Probably the latter. This also, SADLY, explains the spoilers where we saw Blue and Yellow getting along with Steven and not attacking them. They have finally learned that their surrogate child is alive, but just in another form and they have come to accept that. But their is probably one person who won’t and will do anything to destroy this abomination that was created as the result of free will. WHITE DIAMOND. I mean think about it. White is probably the one all in charge of this whole thing. And it is shown that she is the largest diamond and most likely the strongest of them all. She’s the one who started Homeworld and the caste system it goes by in the first place. So there is probably no way in hell that she is gonna let the people know that a diamond had willingly step down from power in order to live a free life. So probably the big finale of Steven Universe is that with the help of Blue and Yellow’s forces, the Crystal Gems’ final mission is to overthrow the supreme leader of Homeworld. And I can not wait to see that fight.
