i think a lot about how long tenna's operable lifespan was compared to the modern tech that he's so intimidated by... take queen for example. she's not a tricked-out gaming rig or a brand new M*cBook -- she's from a public library computer lab. she probably wasn't particularly top-of-the-line or high-spec even when she was brand new, and she's definitely at least a few years old (to have been taken home and played with by kris and asriel). as much as tenna would perceive queen as a shiny new technological marvel who he can't compete with, and as much as she herself doesn't act like it, she's almost certainly already dated by laptop standards.

...or maybe the hometown librarby just has an unusually generous budget and a hardworking IT department, and maybe queen is unusally upgradable and repairable (e.g. easy to disassemble with few parts soldered or riveted down), so she's in tip-top shape! what do i know. (time to complain on r*ddit that this game with monsters and dark worlds is UNREALISTIC because of the well-funded public library and laptop manufacturers who support consumer right-to-repair 😤😤😤)

tenna would be very flattered to find out how young [i.e. over-the-hill on a modern tv's timescale] the cafe tv thinks he is (all like "heh, well, it's ALL about developing healthy routines! i moisturize, i do zumba twice a week..."). meanwhile the cafe tv is shellshocked thinking 'no way he's really that old [i.e. over-the-hill on a crt's timescale]... is he bullshitting me? is he a fucking vampire or something?'

this is getting into my queen headcanons now but what i have for queen specifically is that she used to be noelle's laptop that was donated after she got a desktop. noelle had emotional attachment to the laptop and didn't want to give her away (of course she did! she and kris would play pretend with her!) but carol convinced her that she didn't need two computers. carol only gets the best for her kids so i actually do think queen was top of the line. which in combination with the role that kris and noelle gave her as a queen is why she's so haughty despite being a public laptop in a small town....

she may be outdated but the townspeople all use her, her previous owner still "needs" her, and she can keep up on trends with her access to the internet so maybe that's enough? i don't think queen would actually mind that she's old and getting older because it's kinda like how rulers age while in power she's old but she's still The Queen and she's still powerful. and good thing for queen even if she's old, the library will probably not throw away a functioning laptop. this is actually a fun contrast to tenna who DOES mind that he's old because the dreemurrs don't need him anymore...
