hey kids, long time no blog!  hope you’re all well!  got some COOL NEW-ISH THINGS to tell y’all about!

First up: BOOK PODCAST!

Don’t know if I’ve dropped y’all the line, but I have a whole-ass book podcast where I talk about sci-fi and fantasy literature!  I’ve been running strong for about a year now, and I’ve gotten some cool shout-outs from people like Sean Grigsby, Zoraida Cordova, R. F. Kuang, and others!  (It’s like, 80% of the reason I went to Worldcon, to spread the word and meet cool authors!)  You can find me on iTunes, Spotify, and Awesound!  If you’re not already following me on twitter (@arglebargles) you can check me out there too to get info on episode releases, giveaways, and more!

I have a whole-ass Ko-Fi set up if you wanna chuck a dollar or two my way!  I start the new job next week but I don’t get paid until the end of the month and i’m sort of hurting for cash right now and i may or may not be freaking out a lil!  But this is only if you want to - my podcast is always free no matter what, and i’m still struggling of what i can do especially for those that donate, but it’ll be cool!

Best podcast name ever? I joined Roni Gosch on her podcast to talk about writing and books and process, etc. We got off on lots of little sidetracks, including Twilight, CGI dogs, cynicism and Star Wars, and 1976’s The Shaggy D.A. It’s a quick ninety minutes. Lol. Chris on Litcast of Doom.

Housekeeping 2.0

Sorry for not being present here on the tumbls much!  It’s technically off-season for rvb, but I am trying to make sure I’ve got some good stuff going up!

1) I’m currently trying to craft up some applications for doctorate programs (!!!) and that includes writing ~personal statements~ and taking this huge-ass fucking test tomorrow at 7AM (for which I need to be at the testing center at 6:30 >w< like mmmboy)

2) I’m also working a shit ton more hours and basically waging war every time I go to work bc they want me to work MORE but I’m DYING squirtle 

3) I’m focusing more on my own stuff?  NaNo is coming up and I wanna finish my draft and I’m working on a nonfiction podcast about books and I’m actually READING again and it’s pretty nice-ish

4) even if my depression keeps acting like an asshole

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As with tradition: the new year’s post!

2019 kinda fucked me up.  This time last year - exactly! - I was jobless for the first time in my life, deep in depression, trying to figure out where I could go from there.  It’s taken a lot of hard work (lots of push-ups, sit-ups, and PLENTY of juice), but now at the start of 2020 I have a cool job where I get to write for a living, I’m considering a “leading voice” in an industry, and I get to do all the cool traveling that my dumb baby heart wants!

Am I still at home?  Yeah.  Do I want to fix this?  Hell yes.  Will it happen in the next 3 months? Probably not.

But I AM going to LA, and Las Vegas, and Seattle (again!!!), and Salt Lake City, and a whole bunch of other places.  And I get to hang out at conferences and talk to people about stuff and have a good time.

And my podcast is flourishing!  Slowly but surely!  If you like book review podcasts, def give it a look (cough it’s Litcast of Doom cough check it out couch) bc I read big queer scifi/fantasy books and have a good time doing it, and then break down and analyze the story so you’ll be like “shit dawg I wanna read that.”  (I’ve got a good one on deck about pirates that I think y’all would def enjoy.)

Things come in starts and stops, as many things do.  But I’m content.  Even happy, sometimes.  (And I’m barely tipsy, so go me.)  And I’m hoping that 2020 continues to help me grow and learn to become better at being happy.  

Here’s to yall, for supporting me and being here for me when I needed it, and I hope you’re all having a fantastic NYE - y’all absolutely deserve it!

As some of you may or may not know, I have a coolass Patreon.  My podcast just surpassed 60 episodes, and I’m going to table at a local con to spread the word around town that I really, really love books.

What’s the Patreon for?  Well as it stands, I have only a part-time job paying 10/hour, and that all has to go towards bills that stacked up over the winter.  I’ve got commissions on deck, but my schedule is so damn fucked that I’m struggling to get my shit together.

So this money goes towards hosting fees and paying for the table and cool swag like stickers, buttons, and more!

As of today, all 3$-tier patrons get a sticker until I run out. So time is of the essence - I’ve only got a dozen and I don’t know when the next batch will come in!
