True fairytale: A group called Bookfairies spreads happiness around the world by making gifts of books in unexpected places. Imagine my delight to find my Little Free Library brim full of tempting titles this morning, thanks to some local book fairies. Their kind magic particularly touched me because last weekend someone dumped a load of work manuals in the library that my family had to clear out and donate elsewhere. It had been suffering from neglect because patrons had not replenished books in weeks, and because I am recovering from knee replacement surgery and have not been able to restock it. The moral of this story is to remember libraries and books are made to be shared and enjoyed. If you take a book, try to be like a book fairy and give another you’d like to share. Look what arrived as I was leaving for my “day (night) job” booth tending, Lit Laguna’s new anthology filled with short prose and poetry inspired by Jeff Rovner’s amazing photo, Yangon Monastery Myanmar” (cover) and edited by one of Laguna’s literary laureates, Suzanne Redfearn, who championed a writing contest and got funding from the Laguna Beach Arts Commission. Now that’s teamwork! In “Shakespeare’s Fool” Jason Feddy, his wife Ava Burton and actors from UCI’s New Swan Shakespeare Festival interpret the bard’s words and song lyrics (which, in the plays, have no melodies).
