“Still another resemblance between Paris and the sea. As in the ocean, the diver may disappear there.”
Hugo’s never one to shy away from a drowning metaphor, and they’re never good signs. At the beginning of the novel, Jean Valjean was drowning in the negligence of society; now, he’s at a similar crisis point, but in the sewers instead of the French countryside.
(It’s also not great that the sewer is a sepulchre, both because of the general association with death and the link between this description and the convent. It’s “freedom” in that he’s escaped the troops, but the sewer might be another prison that he’s stuck in, choosing an awful form of confinement over dealing with law enforcement once again. As usual, there’s a rational element to this - especially here, where he would be killed or captured otherwise - but it’s still sad to see.)
“The truth is, that they were less safe than Jean Valjean fancied. Perils of another sort and no less serious were awaiting them, perchance. After the lightning-charged whirlwind of the combat, the cavern of miasmas and traps; after chaos, the sewer. Jean Valjean had fallen from one circle of hell into another.”
I just really love this paragraph! I think the sewer is a very fun setting (except for Valjean and Marius, of course).
“He said to himself that he was probably in the sewer des Halles; that if he were to choose the path to the left and follow the slope, he would arrive, in less than a quarter of an hour, at some mouth on the Seine between the Pont au Change and the Pont-Neuf, that is to say, he would make his appearance in broad daylight on the most densely peopled spot in Paris. Perhaps he would come out on some man-hole at the intersection of streets. Amazement of the passers-by at beholding two bleeding men emerge from the earth at their feet. Arrival of the police, a call to arms of the neighboring post of guards. Thus they would be seized before they had even got out. It would be better to plunge into that labyrinth, to confide themselves to that black gloom, and to trust to Providence for the outcome.”
I love this insight into Valjean’s thought process, as it highlights his intelligence in escaping (the image of Valjean and Marius emerging to the astonishment of random Parisians is also a bit funny). He’s very quickly able to reason through a navigation process that calls back Bruneseau’s mapping attempts, and that’s considering that this is his first time in a sewer and that he’s been deprived of the senses he would normally rely on. He makes a mistake, but his reasoning isn’t completely wrong, illustrating his cleverness.
The suspense is this chapter is also well-done. Hugo’s great at conveying the eeriness of the sewer, and watching Valjean panic over something that isn’t the police always underscores how scary it is. If even he’s unnerved by its dark and labyrinthine nature, then it really has to be horrible. And of course, leaving us on a cliffhanger with the light of the police in the distance raises the tension considerably.

The sewers digression may be over, but Valjean's journey into the sewers has just begun. Hugo knowingly commented that he 'had fallen from one circle of hell into another.'
This chapter is both bleak and beautiful. It’s so sensorial in the way it describes Jean Valjean struggling to orient himself in the sewers, especially during the initial moments when he was blinded by darkness. And I find it so moving and heartwarming how Valjean’s and Marius’ bodies are in the intimate physical contact with each other. Marius’ arms are round Valjean’s neck, his cheek is touching Valjean’s cheek, and Valjean feels Marius’ breath on his ear. Earlier in the chapter, Hugo mentioned Valjean was not certain if Marius was alive (and maybe did not even care), but with Marius’ breath near his ear, he knows for sure that Marius is alive.
Jean Valjean fascinates me: he's incredibly composed, resourceful, and inventive—a perfect survivor with impeccable intuition. Despite his fear and numerous unanswered questions, he remains unpanicked, analysing the situation rationally and reacting swiftly. He is absolutely amazing!
Speaking of amazing, Hugo's attention to detail regarding the sewers—describing their branches, angles, zig-zags, descents, and ascents—is astounding. How could he be so precise in his descriptions while writing far from Parisian sewers? It's probable that he visited the sewers before his exile and had maps at his disposal while writing this. Yet, the accuracy in describing not only the topography and technicalities but also the sensorial details is truly unbelievable.

Brickclub 5.3.1 “The Cloaca and Its Surprises”
What a terrifying chapter title out of context.
Man, I don’t love the way Valjean goes “YES. HOME. THIS IS GLORIOUS” every time he falls into something that’s the symbolic equivalent of prison. Part of the narration is going “Absolute security! Adorable!” and another part is going “so, obviously, this thing is a grave...”
And yeah, like I said before, it’s the convent all over again.
@fremedon talks about how the relief with which Valjean shuts out what’s going on up above has been exactly his problem ever since the convent. Yeah, there’s war up above, but there’s also a transformative miracle going on right now--and also, the whole barricade was an effort at something like the kind of transformative miracle Valjean tried to make his life into right after the bishop, back in M-sur-M. Back then, he tried to fix the world. He had a lot to learn from these other people who were trying to fix the world more radically and communally than he’d been able to imagine.
But he shut out the lesson while he was up there, and now that he’s down here he’s shut it out literally.
There’s something symbolic going on with the idea of blindness here--obvious caveat about Hugo’s rampant ableism is obvious. Blindness, aside from the bishop for whom it was a reward, is a bad thing in this book. And specifically it may be a bad thing for the same reason that it was Myriel’s reward: it’s permission not to look and a state of not looking, giving up on the work of the light, just existing without thinking about the rest. Which is exactly what Ellen was talking about: it’s the way Valjean shuts his eyes and ears to everything he needed to learn at the barricade.
The way his eyes get accustomed to the dark feels like a bad direction for him, and it feels like the way he got accustomed to the deadness and deprivation of the convent.
The pupil dilates in the night, and at last finds day in it, even as the soul dilates in misfortune, and at last finds God in it.
I feel like this says there’s a godliness in what Valjean is doing; his saving Marius is still *good.* He never departs from that. There’s just so much he’s missing, and he doesn’t know that.
And, again, to reiterate, all this is utter ableist bullshit that shouldn’t be connected to the lives and experiences of actual blind people. But Hugo is a dick about this stuff.
And finally, we end with the police. Which factually makes perfect sense--of course there were insurgents fleeing through the sewer--but symbolically is really interesting? On the one hand, the modern sewer is Javert; on the other, if there’s one thing you could say in favor of the convent, it’s that it didn’t cooperate with the police, about anything, ever. It did it’s own brutal policing, but it resisted the state.
But maybe that’s the difference between the modern constructs and the ancien régime ones? The convent, an ancien régime thing, is as impenetrable to the police as to anyone else--and the same goes for the ancient sewer, except for a few canny criminals who can navigate it. Meanwhile, the modern sewer is the police’s creature.
And, I suppose, the police’s presence is ambiguous here, in keeping with that. They can get in--but also, as I think we’ll see soon, this is not their ground. It belongs much more to people like Thenardier--and, potentially, people like Valjean, than it does to them.

New BMW INPA K+DCAN USB cable with FT232RQ Chip with Switch, works on BMW with 8 pin and with K-LINE protocol. Apr 02, 2016 BMW INPA 6.4.3 & 5.0.6 & 5.0.2 Free Download. BMW INPA K+CAN With FT232RQ Chip with Switch Interface USB OBD2 for BMW - INPA/Ediabas - K+DCAN allows full diagnostic of BMW from. Sep 20, 2016 Free download BMW INPA Ediabas 5.0.6 software here: tUIVzKQI!soBnCbRpomWG8jhGEVjEkMs63OP-5qXAqHf9WNRLthg NOTE:It's the customer share and not tested by engineers, so that INPA 5.0.6 is used with.
Have spent quite a lot of time researching until finally got it done properly. Due to lack of information how to do it, I have decided to sum up my findings all over the internet.
Hope this saves someone lots of time of Googling…
Estimated time to do it is no more than 10 minutes, assuming that you already have INPA working properly, and have DATEN file which corresponds to your FRM2 module.
I have done this on E70, ‘09 year, it had FRM2 module. So the manual is based on my own experience, and my searching results.
YOU DO THIS ON YOUR OWN RISK! I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OR MINE MISTAKES THAT CAUSED
ANY DAMAGE!!!
So here we go:

Open Toolset32 (it’s a part of BMW standard tools package) you’ll see a screen similar to mine. Choose: File Load SGBD, Group File
Or just press F3
Next you have to load the .prg file. Choose FRM_70.PRG switch the ignition ON assuming that the
cable is already connected to the car and your PC and then click Open.
This is what you get when opened. Remember to connect the cable to the car first, switch Ignition, and only then try to open the .PRG file. Before going any further, you should find which line has ‘shut down’ due to short, and check the short count
From ‘Jobs’ list, scroll down and select ‘status_lampen_kurzschlus_counter’, then hit ‘F5’. Check the ‘Results’ window, here you see all available line ‘names’. Check the name of the line which after word ‘_counter =” has different value than ‘0’. This is the one that you probably need. Note it, you will need
it later. Minimize the results window for now.
There are 3 minimized windows, take up the ‘Tabellen-Info’ window. From the drop down list choose the ‘LAMPNRTEXTE[3][39]’, click on it and the info you get is marvelous
This is what I have found so hard to understand what to write in the ‘arguments’ window. These are the ‘lamp/line’ numbers, it will make way much easier to find exactly what you need.
Bmw Tool 32 Download 2016 Version
Remember what you noted before and find the corresponding name in the list, then double click in the ‘LAMPNR’ column, it will insert the needed data in to the ‘arguments’ window. Now minimize ‘Tabellen-info’ window and take up the results window. You will need it later.
4.It is time to do the actual reset procedure.
In the ‘Jobs’ scroll list find ‘steurn_reset_kurzsclussab…’ , click on it. In the ‘arguments’ window you should have some text and numbers like ‘LAMPENR;0x1E’, inserted from earlier steps. Make sure checkbox next to ‘Data’ has a tick in it. Hit ‘F5’. And You are done!
‘steurn_reset_kurzsclussab…’ is what worked for me. I found that others report that they have chosen ‘_reset_kurzschluss_sperre’. I have tried both of them, and it seems that it didn’t do any harm to my vehicle. Make sure that in the ‘Results’ window JOB_STATUS says OKAY.
PS.: When I did mine it didn’t say OKAY, but after few tries I got OKAY, and after few seconds I got my DRL light working again! YAY.
Note: Tool32, same as e8x e9x e7x only instead of choosing FRM you need to select LM module. On Google manual floating how to reset short circuits counter for FRM . Just follow the instructions but instead FRM LM module. Good luck
