hey! i’m wondering what your thoughts are on the changed iditarod starting point this year? i came across some posts about it on accident and was kinda shocked that sled races can run over sections with no snow at all. is it typical for there not to be enough snow other years as well?

It's become quite common for Iditarod to change the start location (they do a different route on and off every other year anyways), but climate change has affected dog sled racing so Anchorage especially does not often have enough snow for the amount of strain many large dog teams put on a trail. They will often have to bring snow in to Anchorage for the ceremonial start (and we have had a ceremonial start for years with a different location to the actual starting point of the race because of climate issues for YEARS). Although, I know this year in Alaska has been especially poor in the snowfall department...

It's also quite common for sled races to run across areas without snow. For longer distance races this can be especially challenging because of the weight of the sleds, but in sprint-mid distance races where road crossings are quite common you're going to have sections where you kinda just have to sit back and know your runners are going to take a beating on the pavement for a minute. It's not ideal however, I think every winter musher I know would prefer to have good snow coverage (dryland is a different story).

Quick question about your allegiances, how are the warriors ordered? Are the cats that come first meant to be older than those who come later in the list?

I'm not super particular with how i order my allegiances tbh. In general, it is Oldest to Newest which is different from Oldest to Youngest in that new cats like Scorch just go at the bottom of the list when they join. In that way it's kind of like sorting by ID number in Clangen. So generally the cats at the top are older than the ones below them but new members might throw that off and the founders aren't in perfect age order.

SAG-AFTRA IS STRIKING AGAIN

This time, for video games.

Some key information:

They are striking so all performers will have protection against AI

The struck companies are those signed to the Interactive Media Agreement

The listed companies by SAG-AFTRA include Activision Productions Inc, Blindlight LLC, Disney Character Voices Inc, Electronic Arts Productions Inc, Formosa Interactive LLC, Insomniac Games Inc, Llama Productions LLC, Take 2 Productions Inc, VoiceWorks Productions Inc and WB Games Inc. Though this may not be everyone.

Important things from the FAQ:

Some games from struck companies are non-struck (due to the Collective Bargaining Agreement still being in effect)

Localisations will be affected if covered under the Interactive Localization Agreement

Actors who are part of SAG-AFTRA cannot work for non-union or independent/low-budged productions during the strike unless they are signed to an Interim Interactive Media Agreement, Interim Interactive Localization Agreement or a Tiered-Budget Independent Interactive Media Agreement

Similarly to the previous strike, struck work cannot be promoted. This includes accepting awards for performances in struck games. This does NOT include hosting/performing a skit at an awards show and San Diego Comic Con (the latter due to the close proximity to the calling of the strike)

As implied by the point above, SAG-AFTRA performers cannot partake in panels related to struck games or companies, including finished games produced by struck companies

The best way to check if a game is struck is to use the search tool provided by SAG-AFTRA

Most importantly: You are NOT being asked to stop playing video games, as highlighted in the FAQ for creators and streamers. This does NOT cross the picket line. Though please do talk about the strike and show your solidarity

I expect to see the same amount of support from y'all that we saw in the last strike. Just because it's video games doesn't mean performers deserve any less support and protection.

How is the Mad Cave edition different from the 2016 Kickstarter omnibus? The Mad Cave edition is totally different (night and day, sun and moon) from what was printed for the 2016 Kickstarter – the script was rewritten, every page was redrawn, and even the trim size has changed. Vol. 1 is a reboot of the omnibus, while Vol. 2 covers Zarco and Vols. 3 and 4 will be all-new material!

Will the Mad Cave edition be published internationally, or possible to order internationally?  This is really important to me! I’m making moves to have it localized––my agent has a lot of experience in this area––but Mad Cave has world rights and it’s ultimately up to them. In the interim, it should be possible to order the US edition internationally because it will be distributed through mainstream channels via Simon&Schuster (Amazon, B&N, Bookshop.org, etc).
