❝ HISTORY.

rye knew from the moment he was aware that he would do whatever it took to preserve history. he loved stories, especially stories of the jedi and their amazing adventures. when he learned about savi and sons salvage, what they were really doing, what they were hiding, he jumped right in.

technically, he found out because he was a little punk at age eight and snuck into the workshop, nearly got his ass handed to him by a little girl named breena, and the two became instant friends. she told him the secrets of the workshop and he was completely entranced. from that day onward, he dedicated his life to protecting the secrets of the shop and the jedi.

his parents definitely didn’t understand why he was so interested in such foolish matters as the jedi, they thought they were just some old legends. but their son was adamant, so they weren’t about to argue, especially since he was earning credits for his work.

his parents died a few years back after attempting to escape capture by the first order. he hid and avoided capture, and it only made him more protective over the artifacts he worked with – if they were found out, things would get worse than they could ever imagine.

he’s kept his head down and worked ever since, never really making waves or speaking up.

❝ PRESENT.

so he found out he was force sensitive, which, yikes. started training with obi wan and the others.

he and breena confessed their love for each other, finally! he also discovered a cave filled with kyber crystals, and that has become the new jedi temple.

they have a puppy now, named dandelion. she’s the best.

❝ HEADCANONS.

rye is half zelosian, his parents had left zelos ii when they got married and moved to batuu. zelosians aren’t known to be able to mate with humans, but clearly, that’s disproven. the zelosians tend to keep out of the galaxy’s business ( we won’t talk about the time the empire fucked them over ), so they’re often forgotten and they blend in easily. the zelosians are a peaceful people and pretty chill.

outwardly, rye looks like the average human. he has fair skin, green eyes ( though his are slightly muddier from the human lineage in him ), and for all intents and purposes, he’s just like most humans. the only real differences is his blood is a green chlorophyll, he’s completely night-blind without his specially-made glasses, and while he can eat regular foods, he could also survive on water and good old photosynthesis. he doesn’t talk about his race because it’s never really come up, and if he didn’t tell you, you’d never really know. oh, and he could drink alcohol with no effects, but sugar does to him what alcohol does to humans. bad idea. he’s proud of his race and the fact that he has these fun little quirks. they don’t get in the way of much ( except the night-blindness. that’s a real bitch ) and he can live an average, casual life. protecting jedi artifacts. yup. totally average and normal.

because of his connection to the earth, he discovered pretty early on that he had a skill for finding and connecting to kyber crystals. his senses are just attuned to them, it’s almost as if they speak to him. he can help pair crystals with the right person, he can find and collect them safely, and of course he has fun making little pieces into jewelry for the gatherers. the crystals are protective, and when he pairs them with the user, they’re bound to be safe.

with him knowing so much about the crystals and breena skilled with building hilts, the two of them craft lightsabers in their spare time. mostly for fun, just because they know they can be dangerous if not wielded properly. maybe they’re just subconsciously preparing for the jedi to return. for safety, he keeps a lightsaber concealed on his person, though he’s never had to use it and hopes he wouldn’t have to.

rye’s affinity for details makes him a great conservator, when they find new pieces he’s usually the one to inspect them and note any damage or cleaning necessary.

writes music and sings for fun! he’d never show anyone, he’s pretty sure it’s the only secret he’s kept from breena too.
